Being Wrong: What if the smartest thing you can do is give up the need to look smart?
Our best effort would be to tackle our own life situation in a logical way so that it could bring the highest fulfilment in our life: so each of us should have a good idea of our coping skill and the way of managing our own crisis.
The “Dark Triad” was coined in 2002 by Paulhus and Williams which refer to personality traits that make people magnets for conflict and disagreement.
These are negative qualities because they destroy relationships and compromise overall well-being.
These people can be helped by boosting their strengths and play down their weaknesses.
They have host of undesirable behaviors including
Aggressiveness,
Sexual opportunism, and
Impulsivity
The technical definition of the Dark Triad( Jonason and Webster’s article) is rather daunting: “the Dark Triad as a whole can be thought of as a short-term, agentic, exploitative social strategy...” (p. 420).
People who show these qualities are trying to get away with acting out against others in order to achieve their own ends.

Coming into the newly-created role of Web Presence Manager at Century College, Meg Hatalla details her job, responsibilities, and how it will change after the redesign of the higher education website.
Tomato, Toma-tah: Building Interdepartmental Relationships to Benefit the Cla...Meghan Hatalla
We've all experienced the sensation of participating in a conversation, yet feeling that the the other party is speaking a different language. It’s not the tomato-tomah-ta syndrome—you’re probably just talking with someone from IT. But truth is, there’s a lot we can learn from each other.
The web-related field of user experience focuses on using elements to build positive online experiences for web users. Many of the principles are relative to building courses, online, in person, or hybrid. This hot topic session will pose a scenario with provocative questions on how cross-functional groups can work together toward a common goal:
- How user experience principles apply not only to websites, but courses
- How creating better experiences in the classroom and online can positively affect institutional culture—and proving it using data
- How successful classroom/instructional design strategies can enable cross functional groups to work together toward a common goal
- How to start applying these principles and techniques
Presented by the archetype of opposing parties—a mother/daughter team from separate institutions, one faculty member and the other an user experience designer—this session promises to give attendees the tools they need to speak tomato and tomah-ta.
La Dolce Duck Commander: How Duck Dynasty Teaches Us About da VinciMeghan Hatalla
In Michael Gelb’s book “How To Think Like Leonardo,” he determined seven character traits that made Leonardo da Vinci one of the most influential geniuses in history. These seven principles provide a framework for pursuing knowledge through hands-on inquiry. When I started thinking about how to illustrate those principles in today’s world, I realized that the Robertson family (yes, of Duck/Buck Commander and Duck Dynasty fame) embodies all of da Vinci’s principles.
The Road to Redesign: Applying UX Strategies to Handle Skeptical Speed-bumpsMeghan Hatalla
This UxPA-MN presentation guided viewers through the redesign of Metropolitan State's online student orientation. The year-long project provided opportunities for user research and testing and lessons for gaining support from a skeptical constituency.
The online orientation redesign involved coordination of resources across departments, a challenge in itself, and proved to be a sensitive point for many of the subject matter experts involved. I used information gained from surveys, job shadowing, and usability testing to inform responsive design, content strategy, pathway, and also to prove to a skeptical and emotionally invested constituency that the five-year-old website needed to be updated.

Sad Panda
Pandas eat 20-40 lbs of bamboo a day and sleep for 12 hours. Sad pandas want to do work and go home and be as inconspicuous as possible. They avoid rocking the boat. They don’t necessarily shy away from work, but don’t look to them for help either. Sad pandas are fine as coworkers, but problematic as supervisors.
Are they malicious? No
Find allies for sad panda, finding advocats. Do his job for them, which sounds like hard unfairness the tradeoff is

Gossiper, if someone is willing to talk about other people to you, then they’re probably talking about you to other people. RIP – retired in place. Defensive and territorial. Peter principle.
Are they malicious? They probably have poor coping skills. Like an animal backed into the corner.
Don’t be defensive about being defensive. Caged animal = immediately suspicious and on guard. Holding onto their territory, holding onto their turf. More afraid of you then you are of them. Narrow scope, deflect a lot. Keep the tasks simple, and aim for low hanging fruit. Find a way to protect their pride. Find a way to make them unthreatened. Shadowy board room villain. Status seekers. Able to railroad decisions but usually quieter than most.
Chase projects and initiatives which will elevate status, but not interested in dirtying their hands. They can’t get out of the clouds or speak in *real* terms.
