The presentation summarized Nigeria's efforts to address soil issues through several initiatives: 1) The Great Green Wall Programme aims to address land degradation, boost food security, and support climate change adaptation in the Sahel-Sahara region. 2) The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project works to reduce soil erosion vulnerability in targeted areas over 8 years. 3) Activities of the African Soil Information Service Phase 2 include developing soil fertility maps and crop-specific fertilizer recommendations to serve as a basis for fertilizer guidelines in Nigeria.

2. I. The Great Green Wall Programme: A Pan-African
Initiative conceived to address land degradation
and desertification, boost food security and
support communities to adapt to climate change
in the Sahel-Sahara region of Africa.
II. The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management
Project (NEWMAP): The aim of the 8 years
project is to reduce vulnerability to soil erosion in
targeted sub-catchments.

Maps for a wide range of plant nutrients used as
abases for fertilizer recommendations in Nigeria.
V. Developed and carried out field evaluation of
crop/soil specific fertilizer recommendations
across the country.
VI. Participated in the advocacy for the legalization
of the National Fertilizer Quality Control Bill in
the Nigerian Parliament.
VII. Nigeria participated in the celebration of the
International Year of Soils; 2016 International
Year of Pulses; Digital Soil Mapping Training,
Kenya 3rd -7th July 21017

4. Plans for 2018/2019
 Sensitization workshops for Policy Makers, Development
partners and Civil Society Organizations on AfSP
Implementation Plan aimed at soliciting financial
support.
 Regulation of the practice of Soil Science in Nigeria.
 Monitoring the quality of fertilizers sold to Nigerian
farmers.
 Capacity building workshops on Digital Soil mapping for
young Soil Scientists.
 Continue with implementation of AfSIS phase 2 project,
New map Erosion Control project and the Green Wall
Sahara Programme.
 Participate in the World Soil Congress in Brazil, August
