under Pillar 1
Great Green Wall
This PAN-African initiative addressing desertification, land degradation, support communities to adapt to
climate change in Sahara-Sahel region of Africa.
Sudan Soil Information System and Digital Map of Sudan
The main impact of this project is to identify and describe the soil resources in Sudan and to ensure their
sustainable and productive use for food security, environment protection and developing strategies to
adaptation of climate change over the medium to long term (2025).
PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN SUDAN
Sudan’s vast pastures and agricultural land provided citizens with ample food and grazing land, but
this has changed in recent years. Unsustainable and poorly managed land and water use, compounded
by climate change, including drought, have had a devastating effect on the livelihoods of millions of
Sudanese.
SUPPORTING THE SMALL SCALE TRADITIONAL PRODUCERS IN THE SENNAR STATE
Project goal and objective: the project goal is to reduce rural poverty, increase food security, and incomes of
about 20,000 households in the project area. Its objective is to increase productivity of staple and cash crops
as well as small ruminants for approximately 20,000 households

 World Soil Days.
 Few Lectures on Soil Importance : Soil: Its Role in Our Life.
 Soil Doctors Programme to be implemented by Technology Transfer section
in ARC.
 Implementation of SSM protocol.
 Code of Conduct of Fertilizers.

under Pillar 3
Land and Water Research Centre (LWRC)carried researches
on different areas including:
 Soil fertility and plant nutrition to increase crop yield.
 Water management to improve water use efficiency and
its sustainability.
 Soil reclamation to improve the ecological condition of
the land, so it resources can be used more productively.

6. Main activities implemented in the country
under Pillar 4
To enhance the quantity and quality of soil data and information, soil data
collected and validated and hence:
 Sudan Soil Information System- developed and operational.
 Sudan Soil Atlas will be published.
 Sudan Soil Catalogue will be published.
