Art Of Racing In The Rain Analysis
In Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, Enzo s epiphany was that being selfish is the way for a
racer to win was proven wrong. In this scene, Enzo is listening to his owner, Denny, having a
conversation with his wife Eve about the racing competition that he finished. Denny however, wasn t
able to finish the race due to a minor accident. Enzo heard something that Denny said that reminded
him of a lesson for racing. If it was anybody s fault Denny said it was mine for being where I could
get collected. This is something I d heard him say before: getting angry at another for a driving
incident pointless. You need to watch drivers around you understand their skill confidence and
aggression levels, and drive with them accordingly. (Stein 91) This evidence shows how Enzo
remembered on what Denny said about driving. This is a very important skill to remember when your
racing. It tells you that you can t be selfish when racing. In a way you have to look out for others
people before yourself in order to win the race. Enzo uses this to realize that you can be selfish driving
because when you do you become too distracted and will end up losing. When Enzo said it was
pointless, it gave the definition of this word its actual meaning. It was pointless for Denny to get angry
because it can cause the lost of the race. It could also mean it is pointless to be selfish and unaware of
your surroundings.
Another piece of evidence is when Enzo narrates and gives information about how race

Criminal Profiling, A Powerful Tool Essay
Criminal profiling can be a rather useful tool for criminal investigators of all kinds. Many departments
use profiling to catch terrorists, gangs, cyber crimes, counter intelligence, white collar crimes, and
most of all serial killers. How criminal profiling works is by looking at the behavior of the criminal to
gain insight into his or her personality. A doctor does the same thing when looking at symptoms to
diagnose a certain disease. Being able to understand this person s personality leads you one step closer
to catching him or her. The history of profiling starts as early as the 1800s. Criminal profiling is what
it is today because of the contributions of those investigators of that time. The first documented case
that profiling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were no clear signs of forced entry which means the suspect had been in the house before and
knew his way around. The time that the kidnappers said they would call came and went, which should
have been a big clue that something was wrong. The house was then completely searched and in the
basement the body of JonBenet was found. JonBenet s body was found with her hands over her head
with a cord, along with a cord around her neck. She was covered up with a white blanket with duct
tape on her mouth. The fact that she was covered means that the suspect felt some kind of remorse for
what they did. It could have been someone that JonBenet knew. Now the autopsy confirmed how she
was murdered. It was confirmed that she died by strangulation along with blunt force trauma to the
head and some trauma to the vaginal tissue. Drawing from the information on the autopsy we may
conclude that someone brought JonBenet down to the basement to sexually assault her and took it too
far. The suspect may have gotten angry with her which is why there was bruising on her face and
neck. Once she was dead the suspect may have freaked out and decided to make a ransom note and
hide the body to cover up the crime. Now there was a lot of other evidence that was gathered at the
scene of the crime along with examples of both parents handwriting to compare to the ransom note.
Then we look at the victim s life. JonBenet was homeschooled but did participate in pageants which

Essay On Gun Laws
The most developed country with the highest amounts of gun related deaths is the United States. This
is understandable due to the amount of shootings that occur in the country ranging from local
miniscule headlines to massacres. However the public agrees, the reason for most of these shootings is
due to lack of control on the gun buying process that our government enacted. Governments should
have stricter and more controlled gun laws to diminish the amount of yearly homicides. First, stricter
gun laws are beneficial because it limits the amount of damage a shooter can inflict on a community.
The recent shooting in an Orlando gay nightclub which claimed over fifty lives and injured hundreds
was enacted with only one shooter. As due to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recent example of this was at a night screening of a Hollywood blockbuster where a deranged
shooter by the name of James Holmes, who pleaded for insanity in court, open fired into the crowd of
movie goers once again killing many in the process. The reports have concluded that Holmes was
mentally unstable and should have been rejected for getting any type of weapon, unfortunately the
sequence of events did not transpire in that fashion. This is not the only time when the United States
failed to uphold the peace of gun violence in the country as in recent history a police officer was shot
and euthanized by a war veteran ailing from PTSD. The reason why he was able to keep his weapon
was due to his military service but they did not take away his weapon due to the fact the government
do not check the people that already possess weapons for any mental anomalies. Therefore if the laws
controlled more on owning a firearm then lives like this could have been saved and perhaps gun
violence would diminish. The existence of more controllable and stricter gun laws in the United States
can save the lives of many every year. As today, the people allow themselves to buy weapons that
were meant beyond the capabilities of self protection. Along with the idea that people who own a gun
and are psychologically unsound

Making Dating Work
Introduction
Do you know that saying rules are meant to be broken? Break these rules. This rules were made from
two women who are strongly misguided on what it takes to make a relationship flourish, contradicting
themselves as the chapters go on, as well as manipulating themselves and men in order to find a
husband. They build their knowledge on traditionally false pretenses on how to act, look, and keep a
man at your side. There is no right way to end up married. You can manipulate and censor yourself
like this book suggests, or you can go out into the dating world being who you are and hope that the
right one will come along. The best way to make dating work is to be knowledgeable about common
communication techniques along with relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fein and Schneider (1997) say, Let him take the lead. He declares love first, just as he picks most of
the movies, the restaurants, and the concerts the two of you go to (p. 85). This is not about tradition in
the author s eyes; this is about power in the relationship. Her contributions to the relationship are not
equal with his even though there may be a good outcome. Fein and Schneider (1997) see this as a
strategy to finally get a ring on her finger, not necessarily a happy relationship and they also include,
after he proposes, he will eventually meet all your friends and family. Until then, just follow his lead

inequity inherent in the situation if the referent other is attractive (p.

The Portrayal Of Heroes In Film Posters Of The Dark Knight
The Batman comics and movies have survived decades by captivating new audiences and eliciting a
cult following that has survived fifty years. Undoubtedly, the characters and plots of the films have
transformed to match the newer generation s preference for action and drama. Shifts have provided
heroes that cross the line of villains, and villains that have protagonist qualities. Upon comparing, the
first Batman movie s poster to the recent poster for The Dark Knight demonstrates the shift in the
portrayal of heroes and villains in family entertainment. Society today likes their roles of heroes and
villains to have transposable qualities, and movies that depict violence and action more prevalently.

An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All consumers
should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once consumers have
been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include providing a composting
method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program would provide the means for
all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing via trash receptacles. Food compost
bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow for proper disposal of waste. Companies
should locate composting facilities and begin distributing food waste to said facilities rather than
traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical, companies should work to create their own
composting stations.
True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for
composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and
sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most
consistent way to measure improvement.
There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide
composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives for
implementation and maintenance of the composting problems.
As a case study for success, consider Middlebury College in

Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping
Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to form
judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and prejudice.
Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our brains to fill in
the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive and negative forms
of stereo types and prejudice that effect our interaction with individuals resulting in judgmental
affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples of the positive and
negative effects of gender stereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in many different forms
and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender. Just about everyone holds
stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative. Women are more empathic and
talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example, are women really more empathic
than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When women s and men s actual behavior is
observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the sexes do not differ in having feelings of
empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social pressures influence how we conform to these
stereotypes, however it does create a problem when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes
of their gender or group. There are different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping:
positive, women are better caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These
positive connotations can be taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men
can be caretakers too and women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination
towards women, women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked
management which resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender
roles have taken a turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on
management roles. Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive
or negative will hopefully diminish after time.
Prejudice often

The Pros And Cons Of Determinism
No human can survive without water due to the fact that without water, a person will die from
dehydration, but how do humans know we will die without water? Simple there have been several
incidences in the past of people dying from a lack of water. As a result, humans drink water so they do
not die. In the study of metaphysics, determinism is a view of freedom and moral responsibility which
explains that a person s actions are determined from previous events, and humans do not have free
will. A common phrase people use is you learn from your mistakes , which makes perfect sense. A
mistake was made in the past, and it is not made in the future given similar circumstances. Aileen
Wuornos is a real life example of somebody who had a horrifying past, and as a result, acted violently.
Aileen is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metaphysics also poses two more views on freedom and moral responsibility: libertarianism and
compatibilism. Libertarianism explains that previous events do not determine a person s actions, and
that all humans have free will. Compatibilism is a mix of libertarianism and determinism, stating that
humans are determined by previous events, but have free will. Ultimately, determinism is the view
that is the most logical because many people can relate to it due to their previous experiences.
To begin, people who are not determinists will argue that people do have free will. A common
criticism for determinism involves the human consciousness: Consciousness is not a material thing,
even if it is dependent on the physical brain, and thus is not bound by the laws of physics. (Eric
Wayne). Due to the fact that an individual s thoughts cannot be observed with the five senses, then the
consciousness of every individual is different. To

Overview of United Parcel Service (UPS)
Introduction United Parcel Service (UPS) founded in 1907 is the largest transportation company and
the largest air freight carrier in the world. In 1987 due to rapidly changing external environment UPS
faced serious challenges to its long established policies of on the job training and promotion from
within. With the increase in competition UPS realized that it is lagging in computerization and it
thought of seeking technical expertise which it could not get from within. The concerns they had are
how to hire new talent, how to assimilate, and to what extent new people would conform to UPS
culture. Background UPS was formed in 1907, by 19 year old Jim Casey. Originally, focused on
delivering messages in Seattle. Over the 98 years since its founding, it had transformed itself several
times i.e. from messages to package delivery, to international air Transport Company, finally, in the
1990s, to a logistics company. It is world s largest package delivery company. The company was

Questions On World Philosophy By Plato, Maria...
World Philosophy Paper
Mikala: I ask you this, what is Knowledge?
Plato: Knowledge is Virtue.
Maria Montessori: Knowledge is what we observe.
John Dewey: Knowledge is the active adaptation of a person based on their environment. This is an
example of the Socratic dialog laid out by Plato. Plato was a philosopher and educator whom believed
that education was the key to society. As a student, I realize how my education was impacted by
philosophers such a Plato, Montessori, and Dewey. As a future teacher, it is my responsibility to
decide which philosophies of education I believe and which methods I would use to impact my
students. For this reason, I am going to explore three different types of philosophy as presented by
Plato, Maria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a teacher, I would implement Plato s strategies by using the Socratic teaching method as illustrated
above. Leonard Nelson writes in The Socratic Method that this method of teaching focusses on giving
students questions rather than answers, thereby allowing the students to interact and seek truth. For
this reason, the student becomes the center of education, and the teacher becomes the facilitator of
information. This is why Plato writes in Meno that knowledge will not come from teaching, but it will
come from questioning (Thompson). I enjoyed the Socratic seminars in high a school because it
allowed me as a student to search for answers to the given question, and I had immediate feedback
from my peers. As a teacher, I would like to use this method occasionally because I value critical
thinking rather than passively receiving information.
Realism maintains an objective order of reality in which we gain knowledge from that reality. Many
teachers value and use this philosophy of education in their classrooms today. Perhaps one of the most
influential catalyst for realism in the classroom is Dr. Maria Montessori. Montessori believed that each
child is a worthy individual that is tasked with the duty to develop themselves into mature adults. One
of her main ideas is that learning should occur naturally and at the right time for each child,
advocating, it is true we

The Art Scene Of Tucson, And All Over The World
Creativity and art is becoming such a rising normality in our everyday culture. A new mural with a
political statement is popping up every other week. A person visiting the local pizza joint downtown
can look up on the wall and see a piece of art with a price tag next to it. A local artist painted it and
where else to get public attention than Brooklyn Pizza, in the heart of buzzing downtown. The art
scene is growing quickly, and thanks to the creative means, so is the opportunity for aspiring artists.
Whether it be a political, personal, local, environmental, or just showing U of A pride, local murals
and art are popping up and displaying the creativity of fellow Tucsonans. Art in Tucson, and all over
the world, sets a name for the city, brings the people together and defines a culture. There s such a hub
of cultural exchange here, with Native Americans, Mexican Americans. There really is a lot going on
in the arts (Busler). Local and community art galleries have been around, and are on the rise; Murals,
too, are creating business interest, and create an outlet for creativity. Art shows and auctions get more
artists out into the world, as well as their inspirational pieces. This art scene is only going to grow, and
opportunity along with it. Culture is the puzzle piece in this scene. Cultural diversity is a social good
and the wellspring of free expression. Cultural equity means full inclusion, participation, and power
sharing in all of our communities and institutions

Essay on The Ideology of Media Blame
The Ideology of Media Blame For generations the media has been unfairly seen as the catalyst of
violence and crime with in society. The Media, particularly television and film have been blamed for
many atrocities over the years; some of these can be indirectly related to the media s involvement on
people s lives. But some cannot. As a Media and Psychology student I have different views on the
debate of media blame. As a psychologist I can understand the connection with the media and
violence, i.e. violence is a behaviour, which in theory, is learnt and repeated on another. Therefore this
behaviour must derive from a source. Which it can be argued, could be a media text. But as a media
student I can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an electronic device fitted within a television, which allows the operator to block out
programmes, defined as violent or sexual explicit. This in turn has raised a lot of questions about
cultural competency. In order to understand the issues surrounding cultural competency first we must
define it. The French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu penned the theory that social class and gender carry
with them different cultural competencies. And these affect the ease of understanding and hence the
enjoyment of different media and art forms. Therefore it follows that some media formats may
exclude sections of society who do not possess those required competences. The v Chip can be seen to
automatically define and exclude members of society based on what a panel defines as violent or
sexual explicit. Consequently it could be argued that violence or sex may be needed in order to get a
certain agenda across to the audience. For example the violence seen within Quentin Tarantino s
Reservoir Dogs can be accepted and justified because it is shown to be painful and in a suitable
context to the plot and the characters. As a result with out the violent climax to the film, the plot
would not be able to achieve its aim, as a fictional view of murderous crime. President Clinton has
been quoted saying The V chip puts the remote

Symbols And Techniques Used In Dunbar s They Wear The Mask
Hyperbole and metaphors used in the poem links to how everyone wears a mask once in the while and
has the same universal feeling of hopelessness. Dunbar goes on to note that the more you ignore
something, it lays dormant and may come back even bigger. In We Wear the Mask, Dunbar
exaggerates how changing can be beneficial and harmful because it can be concluded that all the
illusions and subdued emotions are just phony disguises of the painful truths that hide behind them.
Thus, people would want to disguise their pain because it makes them vulnerable. vulnerability is
often concealed and causes one to instinctively want to protect themselves from the ridicule of the
public. Changing external appearance can be detrimental because sometimes a sense of shame

The poem shows how he incorporates his testimonies into his poetry. We Wear the Mask is a lyrical
poem about the suffering of blacks, and how they wear a mask so that the world will never know. This

Dunbar grew up poor, and his father left never to return. This caused a void in his life because he did

which further damaged his health . We Wear the Mask is about Dunbar s own internal suffering, and

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Background Information
1. Outline the major symptoms of the disorder discussed in the case. The major symptoms of Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are problems with attention; in this area the child seems to
ignore detail, they are easily distracted, and they are unable to complete tasks. The next symptom is
hyperactive behavior; in this area the child is restless and unable to sit quietly. The third area or
symptom is called excessive impulsivity, in this stage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ADHD symptoms usually appear early in life, often between the ages of 3 and 6 (NIMH, 2006, pp. 5).
Some factors that contribute to predisposition of ADHD can be attributed to cultural factors (both
psychological and biological), inherited factors, or genetic factors. Researchers are really focused on
the gene factor that can make the person more likely to have ADHD (Faraone, S.V., Perlis, R.H.,
Doyle, A.E., Smoller, J.W., Goralnick, J.J, Holmgren, M.A., Sklar, P., 2005, Khan, S.A., Faraone, S.V.,
2006) . Studies also look into how a preschooler can possibly have ADHD by being exposed to lead in
plumbing at a high level or from the painting in old buildings (NIMH, 2006, pp. 4).
Observations
1. Describe symptoms that you observed that support the diagnosis of the individual. During the
interview, David showed signs of hyperactivity. He was fidgeting and caused the interviewers to
become nervous around him. David can be seen doing flips over and over again on his trampoline,
which shows us just how hyperactive he really is. David is unable to focus for more than a few
minutes and his peers ostracize him for his hyperactivity. He also distracts himself with little noises
and talks to himself as well as daydreams, which shows disruptive behavior. David has a difficult time

judgment and gets very excitable

Disengagement Theory Case Study
In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points
towards possibility of early brain damage (dementia), although further investigation is important for
early intervention and to find out what support he and his carer needs. Everyone grieves differently
and Mr Anderson s grieving process could have exacerbated his misuses of alcohol, isolation and his
mutual withdrawer, which reinforces the psychosocial theories; the disengagement theory, activity
theory and continuity theory, however, this log will explore the disengagement theory and activity
theory. Disengagement theory claimed that ageing is inevitable, it is natural and acceptable for older
people to withdraw from the society according to Cumming Henry, (1961). Drawing from a biological
perspective, Mr Anderson s physical energy has decreased, as older adult energy diminishes as they
age; also, his interest in the society has lessen, he now has fewer interaction. From psychological
level, he has been showing less interest in things that are going on around him and he spend more time
looking inward and embracing his alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, social isolation is a common condition among the older people, which often affect their
wellbeing, health and quality of life (Richard et al. 2009:338). However, the support for
disengagement theory is limited, and it s has been criticised that it lacks empirical supports with no
research base, as many older adults wish to remain active and engaged in their community activities,
therefore social withdrawal doesn t have to be inevitable, it s a process and for some people its occurs

The Management Of Middle Aged Adult By An Adult Geriatric...

PSC is great theory to guide AGNP to manage the patient holistically and to give compassionate
patient care. The main concept of Watson s PSC is caring. Although this theory is based in nursing and
nursing science, it has been incorporated into a variety of other disciplines, increasing its relevance in
many other fields and validated in many clinical settings (McEwen Willis, 2007). Watson has
background in psychiatric mental health nursing and received her doctorate degree in education
psychology and counseling in Colorado, 1973. Related to nursing metaparadigm, Watson defined
human being as a valued person to be cared for, respected, nurtured, understood, and assisted; health
as the unity and harmony within the mind, body, and soul associated with the degree of congruence
between the self as perceived and the self as experienced; and nursing as a human science of persons
and human health illness experiences that are mediated by professional, personal, scientific, esthetic,
and ethical human care transactions (George, 1990). Instead of defining fourth concept of nursing
metaparadigm, environment, Watson formulated that caring exists in all societies and is passed by the
profession as a unique way of coping with the environment (McEwen Willis, 2007).
Watson believed that the main focus in nursing is on carative factors which are derived from a
humanistic perspective combined with a scientific knowledge base (George, 1990). Seven

Key Features Of The Database Management System
.In this paper we will examine the key features of the database management system MongoDB. Day to
day information is growing in gigantic amount. Generated information include predominant
information and it will have to be analyzed for gathering essential expertise. On the whole, relational
databases are used so as to system the data. These, ways works successfully for small amount of
knowledge. What if the data is very tremendous? To avoid this problems Mongo databases are
introduced. MongoDB is a cross platform document oriented database. Classified as a NoSQL
databases. NoSQL meets the requirements of the large scale distributed computing environment,
which provides scalability, high availability, high performance and reliability. NoSQL databases are
increasingly used in big data and real time web applications. Using NoSQL provides the benefit of
storing data in schema less structure. NoSQL is not a brand new database technology; yet, it provides
the possibility and flexibility of handling complex semi structured data and optimizes solutions to
different types of data in this massive and data intensive era of large scale computing.
Introduction:
MongoDB is a structure free and it is a cross platform document oriented database. MongoDB is
developed by 10gen. MongoDB is classified as a non SQL database. NoSQL stores include the use of
low level query languages (instead of SQL, for instance the lack of ability to perform ad hoc JOINs
across tables), lack of standardized

Deceptive Advertising
Deceptive advertising has been around since the beginning of time and still prevalent today.
Sometimes it is done unknowingly by an advertiser, however more often than not; it is done with the
intent to mislead the consumer making deceptive advertising a relevant marketing ethics issue.
Deceptive advertising is a growing trend among business in our society. This trend includes directly
trying to deceive consumers into thinking that they are getting something great but in reality they are
getting nothing. All age groups are targeted by deceptive advertising it is just a matter of how
consumer savvy you are. Almost all companies are guilty of this ... Show more content on

According to the Better Business Bureau, an advertisement as a whole may be misleading although
every sentence separately is considered true. Second, the Federal Trade Commission examines the
misrepresentation from the view of a reasonable consumer or particular target group such as the
elderly. And finally, the representation, omission or practice must be a material one . This means that
if the misrepresentation is likely to affect the consumers decision whether or not to use or purchase a
certain product or service, this is considered material since the consumer may have decided differently
if not for the deceptive advertising (Federal Trade Commission, 1998[on line]). The 1990 s have
brought on some new targets for deceptive advertisers as well as a new focus for Federal Trade
Commission and the Better Business Bureau. The main target of the 90 s include: antioxidant claims,
the diet industry for misrepresenting weight loss claims, environmental or green marketing claims for
products claiming that they are good for the environment and are not, 900 numbers for
misrepresenting the costs of phones call and the internet. In one year, United Weight Control,
Nutri/System, Inc, the Diet Center, Physician Weight Loss Clinic, Weight Watchers International, Inc
and Jenny Craig had all been cited for deceptive advertising and were made to modify their
advertising and marketing practices. The internet has also

Bill Burke Research Paper
Bill Burke is an excellent example of the quote, Be brave enough to travel the unknown path, and
learn what you are capable of. Bill Burke was brave enough to climb Everest from the Tibet side, and
then from the Nepal side where he made his second summit. Bill Burke has accomplished many of his
goals for his lifetime, including climbing up the dangerous Mount Everest.
Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world, reaching 29,035 feet above the ground. Everest is
constantly growing taller, because of the India Plate pushing under the continent Asia, after colliding
with it many years ago. There are many dangers on Everest such as, avalanches, cravasses, strong
winds, steepness, and thin air.
Bill Burke is a 69 year old mountain climber. At the age of 67, Bill decided on taking on the ultimate
challenge of climbing the great Mount Everest. Although he has climbed other mountains before, such
as Mount Rainier and Mount McKinley, Mount Everest would be much more challenging due to its
height and dangers. On Bill s attempt to summit Everest, he would like to find different paths along
the mountain.

Nitration of Methyl Benzoate Essay
Nitration of Methyl Benzoate
Abstract: This procedure demonstrates the nitration of methyl benzoate to prepare methyl m
nitrobenzoate. Methyl benzoate was treated with concentrated Nitric and Sulfuric acid to yield methyl
m nitrobenzoate. The product was then isolated and recrystallized using methanol. This reaction is an
example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction, in which the nitro group replaces a proton
of the aromatic ring. Following recrystallization, melting point and infrared were used to identify and
characterize the product of the reaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize methyl nitrobenzoate from methyl benzoate,
concentrated nitric acid, and concentrated sulfuric acid via an ... Show more content on

The product attained was a white, dry solid. The small amount of product lost during the second
recrystallization was most likely do to impurities, which were filtered away with the methanol.
Impurities that contributed to the low percent yield could be due to side reactions such as methyl o
nitrobenzoate and methyl p nitrobenzoate. Although the percent yield attained was low, the product
attained was fairly pure due to similarity in melting point and IR spectrum compared to standardly
accepted values for methyl m nitrobenzoate.
Spectrum:
C H stretch of the aromatic ring near 3100 cm 1
Strong peak near 1750 cm 1 representing the carbonyl ester stretch Two NO2 stretches at 1530 cm 1
and a little under 1300 cm 1
Aromatic C=C stretch near 1600 cm 1.
The IR spectrum attained also contained a slightly broad stretch between 3200 3600 cm 1, this could
be indicative of a phenol group present or an alcohol impurity. One theory to this impurity may be due
to a dirty salt plate used during the spectra reading. Alcohol residue could be remaining on the plate
from previous laboratory experiments.
Questions: 1. Why is methyl m nitrobenzoate formed in this reaction instead of ortho or para isomers?
Methyl m Nitrobenzoate is formed in this reaction rather than ortho/para isomers because of the ester
group of your starting product of methyl benzoate. The ester group on the ring is an electron
withdrawing group

The Success Of Louis Vuitton Essay
Louis Vuitton was a French box producer and packer who established the extravagance brand of the
same name in excess of 150 years back. From humble beginnings in the French field, Vuitton s
aptitude, development and determination rapidly saw his mark trunks desired by the world s tip top.
Presently, with Marc Jacobs in charge as innovative chief since 1997, the house has extended its
putting forth to incorporate packs, apparel, shoes, frill and adornments, making it a standout amongst
the most profitable extravagance marks on the planet.
Vuitton was conceived on August 4, 1821 in Anchay, a little common laborers settlement in the east of
France. His dad, Xavier Vuitton, was a rancher and his mom, Coronne Gaillard who passed on when
he was 10 a mill operator.
At 13 years old, drained of common life and of his strict stepmother, Vuitton left home for Paris. The
292 mile venture took him two years by walking with stops to complete odd employments to help
himself along the way.
Upon entry in Paris in 1837, Vuitton turned into a student at a fruitful box production and pressing
workshop a specialty that was exceptionally regarded at the time. Inside a couple of years he had
picked up a notoriety for being one of the best in his field in the city.
Vuitton s fortunes climbed again in 1853 when he was named the individual box creator and packer of
the Empress of France, Eugenie de Montijo the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Empress accused

Garbage Dreams Sociology
One of the most striking observations I examined was the way in which culture was used to beautify
and extol ethnic heritage during my first visit to downtown Holyoke. I witnessed culture functioning
as an emblematic tool that was memorializing the Puerto Rican community through art murals, blaring
salsa music [which dominated the air resonance] and other manifestations that showcased Boricua
ethos. Those same cultural cues remained during my second trip, but as I engaged more intimately
with the residents and the commercial industries and governmental offices, these emblems revealed
another meaningful purpose. These symbols of reconstructed nationalism were used to assert
ownership over geographical space while challenging socioeconomic place. Similar to the Zabbaleen
in Cairo whose social and economic position remains endangered, the Puerto Rican community in
Holyoke is experiencing an immediate threat to their geographic space due to their socioeconomic
place and threats of gentrification. Both cultures, which are distinctly unique and ethnically
regionalized as a result, are thousands of miles apart spatially, but closely bounded due to the ability to
use their culture as an instrument to combat the usage of socioeconomic place as an ideological
weapon to regulate geographic space. In the movie Garbage Dreams, the Zabbaleen, which literally
translates to the garbage people , experience a variety of spatial challenges that are abstract in thought,
but very real in

Institutional Critique Essay
When someone enters an art gallery, they believe they are going to view art, but under the guise of
Institutional Critique, this notion often false. Instead of being the traditional art of painting, sculptures,
and installations, viewers encounter, in the work of Hans Haacke, Daniel Buren, and Michael Asher in
the 1970s, not much to look at, but a lot to think about. In essence, Institutional Critique is a protest
against museums/galleries demanding them to view art and art exhibition in new ways, exemplified by
Conceptual art where words, video, readymades, and even ideas are art. Institutional Critique
manifested from the protests of the 1960s, one of which philosopher Michel Foucault participated in
Paris, 1968. Clearly, Institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1971, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was to present a solo show of Haacke s work, which
was to include the controversial piece, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Board of Trustees (1974),
but the museum director cancelled the exhibition. This was partially due to Haacke s refusal to omit
the work from the show, but mostly because of the piece s subject matter. This piece consists of two
framed panels with lists of the museum s board of trustees, which would be acceptable to showcase
because this knowledge would be readily available, but Haacke added five more panels listing the
corporate sponsors of the museum along with each member s other affiliations with corporations. This
work exposed the inner mechanisms of the institution by revealing the trustees questionable
affiliations and the financial backers of the museum. In addition, this piece exemplifies Institutional
Critique precisely because of its focus on the museum itself over the artwork. After all, this piece
cannot be sold at auction, which is an essential aspect of galleries and museums. The piece is, to an
extent, also site specific in that the trust essence of the piece could only be felt if it was exhibited in
the institution it was criticizing, although Haacke never exhibited it at the Guggenheim. In fact, the
piece was not shown until Documenta X in 1997, but by that point, it had lost its critical value. Not
only was it not shown in the

Human Intelligence Can Be Increased Due At Exercise
The beginning and an end. The start and the finish. Once something begins, it will eventually come to
an end. But, that true, does everything in the universe actually end? Numbers; a start with no finish.
Numbers, something so simple, yet so complex. An infinite creation of the human mind subdued by
our unmeasurable human intelligence. This is all capable due to the human brain. The brain is the
most complex and unique organ in the human body. Some even considerable it a muscle. Similar to
muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. But, did you that there s a
direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans? In this paper I will be
backing up my statement that human intelligence can be increased due to exercise. I will also give a
view on the opposite side, using research that hypothetically disproves the idea that human
intelligence can be gained through exercise. Then, I will be evaluating my claim, backing up my point
by applying reason, utilizing the four tests of an argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking
skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and synthesizing my argument. According to a
couple studies exercise and intelligence have no connection. Some even suggest that exercise has
negative effects on human intelligence. The first study was done by Kaycee M. Sink, M.D., M.A.S., of
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and her colleagues, evaluated whether a 24 month physical

Strategic Stewardship
As a private church school where the majority of students come from the sponsoring church and the
churches in the surrounding areas, it is imperative that the school to operate in a spiritual climate that
fosters a strong Biblical curriculum and chapel program that parents want. The primary reason that the
families send their children to our school is that the truths of Scripture are openly and passionately
taught in the classrooms, as well as prayers and the discipleship worldview in all areas of life are
modeled and encouraged by teachers and staff. Parents appreciate and value the school s commitment
to partner with families to educate and train children to be ambassadors of Christ. Defining and

The textbook talks about increasing marginal values by recruiting, hiring and retaining quality
teachers. The school currently has dedicated and wonderful teachers who are willing to sacrifice
higher paying public school positions and teach at the Christian school because they love the spiritual
and family like school atmosphere. However, the school has to face the fact that less than 25% of
teachers have advanced degrees currently. To be academically competitive with public schools and
other private schools in the vicinity, hiring more high caliber teachers is an absolute necessity. This
again is a costly endeavor. Creating differentiated salary ranges suggested by the author in the text
might be a good way to recruit quality teachers without financially burdening parents too much.
Achieving academic excellence will help to attract parents who want their children to receive
spiritually sound as well as academically challenging quality education.
Maintaining and upgrading facilities is another area that needs attention. Replacing an old roof and
applying a fresh coat of paints inside and outside of the building will project more welcoming feeling
to potential parents and students. Repurposing existing offices and classrooms and upgrading media
center should be considered in strategic planning.
Building Culturally Inclusive Communities
Although our school advocated inclusiveness, the student population remained predominantly white

  • 2. Art Of Racing In The Rain Analysis In Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, Enzo s epiphany was that being selfish is the way for a racer to win was proven wrong. In this scene, Enzo is listening to his owner, Denny, having a conversation with his wife Eve about the racing competition that he finished. Denny however, wasn t able to finish the race due to a minor accident. Enzo heard something that Denny said that reminded him of a lesson for racing. If it was anybody s fault Denny said it was mine for being where I could get collected. This is something I d heard him say before: getting angry at another for a driving incident pointless. You need to watch drivers around you understand their skill confidence and aggression levels, and drive with them accordingly. (Stein 91) This evidence shows how Enzo remembered on what Denny said about driving. This is a very important skill to remember when your racing. It tells you that you can t be selfish when racing. In a way you have to look out for others people before yourself in order to win the race. Enzo uses this to realize that you can be selfish driving because when you do you become too distracted and will end up losing. When Enzo said it was pointless, it gave the definition of this word its actual meaning. It was pointless for Denny to get angry because it can cause the lost of the race. It could also mean it is pointless to be selfish and unaware of your surroundings. Another piece of evidence is when Enzo narrates and gives information about how race ... • 3. Criminal Profiling, A Powerful Tool Essay Criminal profiling can be a rather useful tool for criminal investigators of all kinds. Many departments use profiling to catch terrorists, gangs, cyber crimes, counter intelligence, white collar crimes, and most of all serial killers. How criminal profiling works is by looking at the behavior of the criminal to gain insight into his or her personality. A doctor does the same thing when looking at symptoms to diagnose a certain disease. Being able to understand this person s personality leads you one step closer to catching him or her. The history of profiling starts as early as the 1800s. Criminal profiling is what it is today because of the contributions of those investigators of that time. The first documented case that profiling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were no clear signs of forced entry which means the suspect had been in the house before and knew his way around. The time that the kidnappers said they would call came and went, which should have been a big clue that something was wrong. The house was then completely searched and in the basement the body of JonBenet was found. JonBenet s body was found with her hands over her head with a cord, along with a cord around her neck. She was covered up with a white blanket with duct tape on her mouth. The fact that she was covered means that the suspect felt some kind of remorse for what they did. It could have been someone that JonBenet knew. Now the autopsy confirmed how she was murdered. It was confirmed that she died by strangulation along with blunt force trauma to the head and some trauma to the vaginal tissue. Drawing from the information on the autopsy we may conclude that someone brought JonBenet down to the basement to sexually assault her and took it too far. The suspect may have gotten angry with her which is why there was bruising on her face and neck. Once she was dead the suspect may have freaked out and decided to make a ransom note and hide the body to cover up the crime. Now there was a lot of other evidence that was gathered at the scene of the crime along with examples of both parents handwriting to compare to the ransom note. Then we look at the victim s life. JonBenet was homeschooled but did participate in pageants which put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is understandable due to the amount of shootings that occur in the country ranging from local miniscule headlines to massacres. However the public agrees, the reason for most of these shootings is due to lack of control on the gun buying process that our government enacted. Governments should have stricter and more controlled gun laws to diminish the amount of yearly homicides. First, stricter gun laws are beneficial because it limits the amount of damage a shooter can inflict on a community. The recent shooting in an Orlando gay nightclub which claimed over fifty lives and injured hundreds was enacted with only one shooter. As due to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recent example of this was at a night screening of a Hollywood blockbuster where a deranged shooter by the name of James Holmes, who pleaded for insanity in court, open fired into the crowd of movie goers once again killing many in the process. The reports have concluded that Holmes was mentally unstable and should have been rejected for getting any type of weapon, unfortunately the sequence of events did not transpire in that fashion. This is not the only time when the United States failed to uphold the peace of gun violence in the country as in recent history a police officer was shot and euthanized by a war veteran ailing from PTSD. The reason why he was able to keep his weapon was due to his military service but they did not take away his weapon due to the fact the government do not check the people that already possess weapons for any mental anomalies. Therefore if the laws controlled more on owning a firearm then lives like this could have been saved and perhaps gun violence would diminish. The existence of more controllable and stricter gun laws in the United States can save the lives of many every year. An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All consumers should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once consumers have been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include providing a composting method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program would provide the means for all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing via trash receptacles. Food compost bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow for proper disposal of waste. Companies should locate composting facilities and begin distributing food waste to said facilities rather than traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical, companies should work to create their own composting stations. True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most consistent way to measure improvement. There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives for implementation and maintenance of the composting problems. As a case study for success, consider Middlebury College in

  • 12. Positive And Negative Effects Of Gender Stereotyping Throughout society there are many different cultural and social perceptions that allow people to form judgmental beliefs about society. Encompassed within these perceptions are stereotypes and prejudice. Stereotypes and prejudice are examples of categorizations of people which allow our brains to fill in the types or interactions that may happen with people. There are different positive and negative forms of stereo types and prejudice that effect our interaction with individuals resulting in judgmental affliction upon individuals or groups. This essay will analyze and provide examples of the positive and negative effects of gender stereotyping and prejudice. Stereotyping can come in many different forms and have many different subjects. One form of stereotyping is of gender. Just about everyone holds stereotypes of women and men some positive and some negative. Women are more empathic and talkative; men are more competent and aggressive. For example, are women really more empathic than men? Which women? Empathic toward whom? When women s and men s actual behavior is observed systematically under a variety of conditions, the sexes do not differ in having feelings of empathy or in its expression (book, p. 365). Social pressures influence how we conform to these stereotypes, however it does create a problem when people are victimized by the negative stereotypes of their gender or group. There are different connotations that can be identified when stereotyping: positive, women are better caregivers and men are better breadwinners or money makers. These positive connotations can be taken negative towards the other gender or even their own gender men can be caretakers too and women can make money. In the early 1900 s there was a high discrimination towards women, women entering the work force worked in factory lines, while men worked management which resulted in lower pay for women kept the men in charge. Over the years gender roles have taken a turn and there is now a significant increase with women working and taking on management roles. Roles in society are different between genders and those differences either positive or negative will hopefully diminish after time. Prejudice often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Determinism No human can survive without water due to the fact that without water, a person will die from dehydration, but how do humans know we will die without water? Simple there have been several incidences in the past of people dying from a lack of water. As a result, humans drink water so they do not die. In the study of metaphysics, determinism is a view of freedom and moral responsibility which explains that a person s actions are determined from previous events, and humans do not have free will. A common phrase people use is you learn from your mistakes , which makes perfect sense. A mistake was made in the past, and it is not made in the future given similar circumstances. Metaphysics also poses two more views on freedom and moral responsibility: libertarianism and compatibilism. Libertarianism explains that previous events do not determine a person s actions, and that all humans have free will. Compatibilism is a mix of libertarianism and determinism, stating that humans are determined by previous events, but have free will. Ultimately, determinism is the view that is the most logical because many people can relate to it due to their previous experiences. To begin, people who are not determinists will argue that people do have free will. A common criticism for determinism involves the human consciousness: Consciousness is not a material thing, even if it is dependent on the physical brain, and thus is not bound by the laws of physics. John Dewey: Knowledge is the active adaptation of a person based on their environment. This is an example of the Socratic dialog laid out by Plato. Plato was a philosopher and educator whom believed that education was the key to society. As a student, I realize how my education was impacted by philosophers such a Plato, Montessori, and Dewey. As a teacher, I would implement Plato s strategies by using the Socratic teaching method as illustrated above. Leonard Nelson writes in The Socratic Method that this method of teaching focusses on giving students questions rather than answers, thereby allowing the students to interact and seek truth. For this reason, the student becomes the center of education, and the teacher becomes the facilitator of information. This is why Plato writes in Meno that knowledge will not come from teaching, but it will come from questioning (Thompson). I enjoyed the Socratic seminars in high a school because it allowed me as a student to search for answers to the given question, and I had immediate feedback from my peers. As a teacher, I would like to use this method occasionally because I value critical thinking rather than passively receiving information. Realism maintains an objective order of reality in which we gain knowledge from that reality. Many teachers value and use this philosophy of education in their classrooms today. Perhaps one of the most influential catalyst for realism in the classroom is Dr. Maria Montessori. Montessori believed that each child is a worthy individual that is tasked with the duty to develop themselves into mature adults. A local artist painted it and where else to get public attention than Brooklyn Pizza, in the heart of buzzing downtown. The art scene is growing quickly, and thanks to the creative means, so is the opportunity for aspiring artists. Whether it be a political, personal, local, environmental, or just showing U of A pride, local murals and art are popping up and displaying the creativity of fellow Tucsonans. Art in Tucson, and all over the world, sets a name for the city, brings the people together and defines a culture. There s such a hub of cultural exchange here, with Native Americans, Mexican Americans. There really is a lot going on in the arts (Busler). Local and community art galleries have been around, and are on the rise; Murals, too, are creating business interest, and create an outlet for creativity. Art shows and auctions get more artists out into the world, as well as their inspirational pieces. This art scene is only going to grow, and opportunity along with it. The Media, particularly television and film have been blamed for many atrocities over the years; some of these can be indirectly related to the media s involvement on people s lives. But some cannot. As a Media and Psychology student I have different views on the debate of media blame. As a psychologist I can understand the connection with the media and violence, i.e. violence is a behaviour, which in theory, is learnt and repeated on another. Therefore this behaviour must derive from a source. Which it can be argued, could be a media text. But as a media student I can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an electronic device fitted within a television, which allows the operator to block out programmes, defined as violent or sexual explicit. And these affect the ease of understanding and hence the enjoyment of different media and art forms. Therefore it follows that some media formats may exclude sections of society who do not possess those required competences. The v Chip can be seen to automatically define and exclude members of society based on what a panel defines as violent or sexual explicit. Consequently it could be argued that violence or sex may be needed in order to get a certain agenda across to the audience. For example the violence seen within Quentin Tarantino s Reservoir Dogs can be accepted and justified because it is shown to be painful and in a suitable context to the plot and the characters. As a result with out the violent climax to the film, the plot would not be able to achieve its aim, as a fictional view of murderous crime. Symbols And Techniques Used In Dunbar s They Wear The Mask Hyperbole and metaphors used in the poem links to how everyone wears a mask once in the while and has the same universal feeling of hopelessness. Dunbar goes on to note that the more you ignore something, it lays dormant and may come back even bigger. In We Wear the Mask, Dunbar exaggerates how changing can be beneficial and harmful because it can be concluded that all the illusions and subdued emotions are just phony disguises of the painful truths that hide behind them. Thus, people would want to disguise their pain because it makes them vulnerable. vulnerability is often concealed and causes one to instinctively want to protect themselves from the ridicule of the public. This caused a void in his life because he did not have a father figure. Dunbar s life is similar to the poem because while he was happy to the public behind closed doors issues were dreadful. Some factors that contribute to predisposition of ADHD can be attributed to cultural factors (both psychological and biological), inherited factors, or genetic factors. Researchers are really focused on the gene factor that can make the person more likely to have ADHD (Faraone, S.V., Perlis, R.H., Doyle, A.E., Smoller, J.W., Goralnick, J.J, Holmgren, M.A., Sklar, P., 2005, Khan, S.A., Faraone, S.V., 2006) . Studies also look into how a preschooler can possibly have ADHD by being exposed to lead in plumbing at a high level or from the painting in old buildings (NIMH, 2006, pp. 4). Observations 1. Describe symptoms that you observed that support the diagnosis of the individual. During the interview, David showed signs of hyperactivity. He was fidgeting and caused the interviewers to become nervous around him. David can be seen doing flips over and over again on his trampoline, which shows us just how hyperactive he really is. David is unable to focus for more than a few minutes and his peers ostracize him for his hyperactivity. Disengagement Theory Case Study In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points towards possibility of early brain damage (dementia), although further investigation is important for early intervention and to find out what support he and his carer needs. Everyone grieves differently and Mr Anderson s grieving process could have exacerbated his misuses of alcohol, isolation and his mutual withdrawer, which reinforces the psychosocial theories; the disengagement theory, activity theory and continuity theory, however, this log will explore the disengagement theory and activity theory. Disengagement theory claimed that ageing is inevitable, it is natural and acceptable for older people to withdraw from the society according to Cumming Henry, (1961). Drawing from a biological perspective, Mr Anderson s physical energy has decreased, as older adult energy diminishes as they age; also, his interest in the society has lessen, he now has fewer interaction. The main concept of Watson s PSC is caring. Although this theory is based in nursing and nursing science, it has been incorporated into a variety of other disciplines, increasing its relevance in many other fields and validated in many clinical settings (McEwen Willis, 2007). Watson has background in psychiatric mental health nursing and received her doctorate degree in education psychology and counseling in Colorado, 1973. Related to nursing metaparadigm, Watson defined human being as a valued person to be cared for, respected, nurtured, understood, and assisted; health as the unity and harmony within the mind, body, and soul associated with the degree of congruence between the self as perceived and the self as experienced; and nursing as a human science of persons and human health illness experiences that are mediated by professional, personal, scientific, esthetic, and ethical human care transactions (George, 1990). Instead of defining fourth concept of nursing metaparadigm, environment, Watson formulated that caring exists in all societies and is passed by the profession as a unique way of coping with the environment (McEwen Willis, 2007). Watson believed that the main focus in nursing is on carative factors which are derived from a humanistic perspective combined with a scientific knowledge base (George, 1990). Methyl benzoate was treated with concentrated Nitric and Sulfuric acid to yield methyl m nitrobenzoate. The product was then isolated and recrystallized using methanol. This reaction is an example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction, in which the nitro group replaces a proton of the aromatic ring. Following recrystallization, melting point and infrared were used to identify and characterize the product of the reaction. The small amount of product lost during the second recrystallization was most likely do to impurities, which were filtered away with the methanol. Impurities that contributed to the low percent yield could be due to side reactions such as methyl o nitrobenzoate and methyl p nitrobenzoate. Although the percent yield attained was low, the product attained was fairly pure due to similarity in melting point and IR spectrum compared to standardly accepted values for methyl m nitrobenzoate. Spectrum: C H stretch of the aromatic ring near 3100 cm 1 Strong peak near 1750 cm 1 representing the carbonyl ester stretch Two NO2 stretches at 1530 cm 1 and a little under 1300 cm 1 Aromatic C=C stretch near 1600 cm 1. The IR spectrum attained also contained a slightly broad stretch between 3200 3600 cm 1, this could be indicative of a phenol group present or an alcohol impurity. One theory to this impurity may be due to a dirty salt plate used during the spectra reading. Alcohol residue could be remaining on the plate from previous laboratory experiments. Questions: 1. Why is methyl m nitrobenzoate formed in this reaction instead of ortho or para isomers? Garbage Dreams Sociology One of the most striking observations I examined was the way in which culture was used to beautify and extol ethnic heritage during my first visit to downtown Holyoke. I witnessed culture functioning as an emblematic tool that was memorializing the Puerto Rican community through art murals, blaring salsa music [which dominated the air resonance] and other manifestations that showcased Boricua ethos. Those same cultural cues remained during my second trip, but as I engaged more intimately with the residents and the commercial industries and governmental offices, these emblems revealed another meaningful purpose. These symbols of reconstructed nationalism were used to assert ownership over geographical space while challenging socioeconomic place. Similar to the Zabbaleen in Cairo whose social and economic position remains endangered, the Puerto Rican community in Holyoke is experiencing an immediate threat to their geographic space due to their socioeconomic place and threats of gentrification. Both cultures, which are distinctly unique and ethnically regionalized as a result, are thousands of miles apart spatially, but closely bounded due to the ability to use their culture as an instrument to combat the usage of socioeconomic place as an ideological weapon to regulate geographic space.
