TEST SHOT
EVALUATION
CASEY’S JOURNAL
MAGAZINE SHOT 1 &
2
Is the image the right size and follows
the conventions for the poster or
magazine cover?
The photo which we took is the right size for
what we want to be seen on the poster,
however, we decided it would be better to get
more of my torso and legs in the shot so that
we can edit it more precisely.
How effective is the lighting?
The lighting we used in the test
shot was the correct lights that we
wanted to use in the real thing,
however, the positioning of them
was not perfect as there was still
some shadows behind me.
Does the image conform to genre
conventions?
The magazine images conform perfectly to the
conventions of a teen drama. The stereotypes
for this genre, from what films we have looked
into, which show a vulnerable girl, also seen as
a victim and a confident popular girl who is often
seen as a bully.
What character representation is suggested
by the facial expression and body language?
We can clearly see a dominant character(s) from the
image as the girls are standing behind Casey with
their arms folded looking down on her. We can see
that the Casey, the girl in front is the protagonist as
the photo draws a lot more attention to her. We can
see her character is a lot less dominant than the
other two as her arms are folded which suggests
that she is shy and uncomfortable. We can also
learn that there is an element of education in the
magazine due to the books that Casey is holding,
suggesting that it might be set in a school, as
numerous teen dramas are.
Explain how a potential narrative is hinted at.
A narrative is hinted at due to the fact that Casey is standing
in front of the other two girls, this could suggest that she is
telling the story from her point of view due to the way she is
in front of the other two characters, making her look more
important in regards to the film.
POSTER SHOT
Is the image the right size and follows the
conventions for the poster?
The image is slightly too small as we want more room
around the edges so that we can make our editing
really accurate.
How effective is the lighting?
The lighting which was used in our test shot
was not properly set up. We are definitely
going to make changes as the photo was too
dark. The light was on my hair too much so it
drew away the attention from what she is
looking at
What character representation is suggested by the
facial expression and body language?
We cannot see the characters face however her body
language suggests that she is feeling comfortable in her
environment which could imply that is at home.
