Teacher Difficulties in Teaching Esl in Malaysia
INTRODUCTION English plays a vital role around the global. As the regard of English usage in
a universal form, English is placed as second language in most of the countries around the world.
English is widely learned as a second language and used as an official language of the European
Union and many Commonwealth countries, as well as in many world organizations. It is the third
most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. It is the most
widely spoken language across the world. English is now widely taught in almost every country.
When it comes to teaching and learning a language, it is not always easy to achieve the goal.

English is compulsory second language taught in school beginning at Primary 1 and age seven.
Malaysian students from different background in life have different levels of knowledge and
proficiency in English. Every student has a different way of learning, and learns and progresses
at different speeds. There are some students who find it difficult to do the task while others find it
easy whenever teacher instructs on a task to be carried out by them. These mix abilities students
are hard for teacher to approach one by one. Such situations become obstacles in the process of
learning English as a second language. Teachers are unable to reach all of the students at one time.
Teachers are also having problems in deciding the right activities and tasks to be carried out
throughout the lesson to facilitate teaching and learning process. Other than that, the participation
of students in classroom activities also plays a role in the success and failure of the lesson.
Teachers are uninspired when the teachers does not get the participation of students in classroom
activities. Since the classroom is the first and only environment for many foreign language learners,
they should use this chance as much as possible to get involved in the classroom activities.
However, some of the students find it difficult to speak in the target language for many reasons
ranging from interest to confidence, from age to knowledge. Other

Blackberry Limited Is A Consumer And Enterprise...
Blackberry Limited is a consumer and enterprise electronics manufacturer and communication
services provider based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The company trades on both the Toronto
Stock Exchange as BB and the NASDAQ as BBRY. The company, founded in 1984, released the
BlackBerry wireless e mail device in 1999. The device was the first of its kind to enhance
communication capability for employees of large enterprises while still allowing the corporation
to retain control over the devices and how they are used. Many cellular telephone providers
around the world created special tariffs after the release of the device and still offer these today.
The company centralizes its sales around two key sectors: hardware and services. BlackBerry s...

Large companies have been slow to adopt tablets, which is where BlackBerry may have, but did
not, succeed. Per a succession of BlackBerry Ltd. earnings reports, lifetime shipments as of
2Q2013 totaled only 2.5 million units. For comparison, the Apple iPad sold 3.27 million units
in its first quarter alone, and sales have only continued to increase. BlackBerry has not released a
new version of the tablet since late 2012 and the unit was officially discontinued from sale in
2014. BlackBerry has always been strongest in their enterprise services sector. Even though
hardware sales have always greatly surpassed service revenue, the service portfolio was the
reason that most corporations signed on to the BlackBerry ecosystem. According to S P Capital
IQ, BlackBerry believes it has the largest installed user base in the mobile device management
(MDM) market through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) system, although this claim
could not be independently verified. As Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating systems
begin to emulate certain features of BES, however, and reviewing BlackBerry s dismal recent
hardware releases, BlackBerry s viability as a competitor in today s highly innovative and fast
paced mobile device market remains to be seen. Going forward, BlackBerry is in a remarkable state
of uncertainty. The

Ethical Issues In A Hospital
For this assignment, I spent time volunteering at Mercy Downtown, helping at the main
information desk. While I was there, I assisted visitors in finding patients by looking up their
room number, directed patients and visitors to the correct area of the hospital, and delivered
flowers to rooms that had been dropped off. A paid employee also accompanied me while there,
as volunteers are not allowed to actually look up patient information via the online portal, but I
could call a different help desks within the hospital to ask other paid employees to look patients up
for me if needed. The experience made me realize that there are so many little unthought of
components to making a hospital as big as Mercy be efficient for everyone. The information... Show

I have learned that no matter how many times people tell me not to judge a person by their
appearance, I have grown up in a world where we still do it daily regardless of how hard we try
not to. I go back and forth thinking about whether it s right or wrong to so openly give out
patient room numbers but in the end, I think it s really only fair to do so. I think there could be
changes, if possible phone up to a room and ask the patient if they know so and so, and if they
want them to come to their room. Another option might be calling the nurses station or something
on the floor, but I can only imagine how crazy that would drive employees who are trying to do
their jobs. I can guess that most health care related organizations come across many situations and
circumstances that could sway between ethical and unethical, and the decision about what to do is
probably very difficult. It has been made very clear to me now, as to why hospitals have boards of
directors with members from different backgrounds, so that there is really someone pulling from
every angle to try and think about all the options to help make a sound

This low price strategy is coupled with a wide range of well designed, functional products. IKEA
s products cater for every lifestyle and life stage of its customers, who come from all age groups

IKEA s potential market. The customer knowledge. Constantly using innovations to drive costs
down. Supply chain integration. The brand reputation and market presence, diversified product

Customer knowledge. One of the key competitive advantages IKEA has is its extensive knowledge
about the customers. The company understands the purchasing factors that influence customers to
buy and implements the best practices to induce that decision. IKEA offers low prices and a huge
range of products. Designers constantly introduce new design products that look stylish in the eyes
of customers. All the products are designed so it would be easy to transport and assemble.
Moreover, the company offers the widest product range and positive shopping experience. All of
these factors are aligned with what customers want and need and which results in higher sales.
Without such extensive customer knowledge and best practices to benefit from that knowledge,
IKEA would be unable to outcompete its current competitors. Constantly using innovations to drive

Status And Society In The Tale Of Genji
The Tale of Genji was centered around the Heian period in Japan. The book is centered around
Genji, the son of the Emperor. The book gives glimpses of what life was like for the elites in
Japan. It displayed elite status and culture, how the Japanese value material possessions and how
it defines status in society. The book gives us an insight of Heian Japan. Status is a very
important in Heian Japan. Status gives you power and the higher up you are, the better off you
are. Status is defined by what rank one is. Rank displayed the amount of education, dignity, social
status and so on. The emperor can raise one s rank. This was seen when Genji s mother died. The

When the two men come face to face they are both shot from below establishing that there they
are both strong figures, which is an important film noir tactic. The other officers around them are
shot at eye level. The tension between them begins with a racial comment from Quinlin stating
that Vargas doesn t sound like a Mexican. When Vargas reassures Quinlin that he wont he won t
have any trouble with him, Quinlin responds with, you bet your sweet life I wont. The shot ends
with a second of silence focused from below on Quinlin s shadowed face. The use of shadows is
also a key element of film noir, which helps to create the dark and mysterious world that
surrounds the characters. Quinlin increasingly represents a common character in film noir.
Although he is a strong character in the eyes of his fellow officers, he is portrayed as a loner who
has become disillusioned and insecure. His scenes with Tanya Tana (Marlene Deitrich) are
revealing of Quinlin s past and his downward spiral since then. She comments that she didn t
recognize him and that he should lay off the candy bars making it obvious that Quinlin has
physically deteriorated since they were at one time involved. As the film goes on Quinlin falls back
into drinking and spends the later part of the film completely intoxicated. Although Tanya acts
indirectly as Quinlin s significant female, she does not represent the classic femme

Deception In The Inferno And Boccaccio s The Deccameron
The theme of lying and deception reoccur frequently throughout Dante s, The Inferno and
Boccaccio s, The Decameron. In Dante s, The Inferno we meet Geryon, a monster who leads Dante
and Virgil into the eighth circle of hell. Dante believes that committing fraud and deception are the
worst sin s and he illustrates that through Geryons physical traits, and where Geryon leads them,
Malebolge. In Malebolge, the eighth circle of hell, Dante further illustrates the themes of lies and
deception by the sinners he meets and the stories he is told. The themes of lies and deception are
prevalent not only through the Infernobut, also through Boccaccio s, The Decameron. Throughout
The Decameron, Boccaccio uses lies and deception to build his hero s throughout the stories.
The first story takes the theme of lies and deception and shows them through the character,
Ciappelletto. Ciappelletto lies his way to heaven and ends up being praised by a city upon
death, although his whole life he has been a sinner. Boccaccio often uses lies and deception to
lead the characters to heaven, compared to Dante who sees how lies and deception have led the
characters to hell. Throughout both texts the theme of lies and deception are prevalent and play
a significant role in both stories. In Dante s, The Inferno, lies and deception are represented
strongly through the monster Geryon. Geryon has many deceiving characteristics that represent
lying and fraud. Dante describes Geryon as, His face is appealing like that of an honest man,
but his body end in a scorpion like stinger. (Dante 223) Geryon has the face of an innocent man,
which represents your typical person committing fraud, like we see in big business today. His
scorpion like tail represents the downside to these businessmen because even though they look
good at first, they are going to come back and sting you, by committing fraud against you. Geryon
takes Vigil and Dante from the seventh circle of hell into the final circle of hell, Malebolge. In
Malebolge, Dante and Virgilmeet many sinners who have committed the act of fraud, all of the
sinners are punished in unique ways depending on what type of fraud they committed. The sinners

Introduction
In our society, we have placed a lot of negative beliefs or stereotypes on the first nations
communities. We have given them stereotypes such as, the lazy Indian , the uneducated Indian , the
dumb Indian and the drunken Indian . In this paper I will discuss the stereotype of the drunken
Indian . I will highlight where the drunken Indian stereotype came from and why it exists. I will
explain what this stereotype means and the impact it has on first nations communities. I will also

They gave her something for anxiety and restrained her to the hospital bed because she kept
getting out of her bed to throw up. She died in that hospital due to infection in the abdomen and
was portrayed as a drunken Indian so did not get the medical help she needed for her gun shot
wound (Peters, H. Sels, B., 2005). This is a clear example of the meaning of the drunken Indian
stereotype.
How the Stereotype Effects the Health and Well being of Children
I believe that having the drunk Indian stereotype will greatly affect children, families and
communities. For a child growing up in a community with the belief in the stereotype that all first
nation people are drunken Indians would cause that child to have low self esteem. If these
children were teased at school by their non aboriginal peers this would have a negative effect on
the child as well. These children who already have low self esteem could turn to alcohol and drugs
as a way of coping with the feelings they have about themselves.
Parents of these children who have survived the residential schools don t know how to cope with
everything they have lost and everything they have been through. They have turned to alcohol to
mask their emotions. Over time as these children were taken away from their homes and put into
residential schools they were losing the chance to parent their children. All they know is

Real Estate Data Set
This task involves trying to give an educated guess on a linear regression model for pricing real
estate using a real facts date set using numbers and facts. Normally two approaches are used for
valuing a real estate property: income and sales comparison. The sales assessment approach
values a real estate property based on sale prices of similar properties. In this case the properties
with familiar individuality are basically on the same price level, it would be typical to use a linear
regression model to complete this demonstration. Our team will examine the significance of
numerous independent variables to a real estate value. Two important strategies to regression testing
is to run all test, and run a subset of the test based on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The correlation is 41% between Bdrm and Size. We have concluded that there is no problem of
multicollinearity in the data. We also found that Price and Size have relatively large scales
compared with other variables. So it is natural to consider the logarithmic form of these two
variables. We will run a new regression in which the regressor is log (price) and the regressand
Size is replaced by its logarithm log (size). The R squared of this new model is around 60%,
even a little lower than the original model. The statistical significance of other independent
variables keeps almost unaffected. The analysis of coefficients in this model with logarithms is
not intuitive. So we still stick to the reduced linear model estimated in (a). We analyzed the OLS
residuals to check for possible heteroskedasticity for a cross sectional data set. We computed the
fitted values of Price and OLS residuals in our model. Then residuals are sorted by fitted values
of Price, and a scatter diagram of residuals is plotted against the fitted values in Figure 2. It is
observed that all points are fairly scattered and there is no obvious pattern for the dependence of
the residuals on the fitted values. We conclude that a linear model with homoskedastic errors is
satisfactory for this data set. We evaluated the validity of this linear regression model by checking
the accuracy of its prediction. The linear model is estimated by using 100 out of 105

Attribution Theory and Depression
Mike E. Calderin
Christopher Newport
Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution
theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that
way. People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and
understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many
different areas of peoples lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different
areas including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff
depression is defined as, a medical illness that causes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interesting thing about his findings is that this attitude affected further performance on later
tests that were different. Just like self fulfilling prophecy; if you are of the mindset you won t do
well then you probably will not.
Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their
mindset and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is
one of the techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed
individuals negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and
symptoms. AR has become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and
easily applied (Wang, et. al., 2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it
can be individualized to the patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR
therapy targets the negative attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more
healthy attributions (Wang et. al., 2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the
depressed person begins to make sense and not feel so out of control of their life. This may also
lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to assess what is really happening and why they
perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to the many different facets of depression. By
targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from the

The purpose of the fluid flow meters experiment was to determine the operating characteristics of
the Venturi and orifice meters. The purpose of the tray hydraulics experiment was to study the
vapor and liquid tray hydraulics parameters for sieve, or perforated, trays in a distillation column.
By performing experiments based on theory and comparing results to literature values, the
objectives of this experiment can be achieved. Both the orifice and the Venturi meters produce a
restriction in the flow and measure the pressure drop across the meter. The velocity of a fluid is
expected to increase as the fluid flows from an open area, to a more constricted area. Assuming
incompressible flow, a negligible height change, and steady state, Bernoulli s equation can be
simplified to show the correlation between the volumetric flow rate and the pressure drop. The
equation for both meters is as follows: w=QПЃ=CYA22gc(p1 p2)ПЃ1 ОІ4 (1) 1 where A2 is the
cross sectional area of the throat, C is the coefficient of discharge (dimensionless), gc is the
dimensional constant, Q is the volumetric rate of discharge measured at upstream pressure and

compounded by Nalcor s decision to exclude Lake Melville from the environmental assessment

the findings is evidence from Harvard University scientists of detrimental impacts on methyl

Charles Sanders Peirce Research Paper
Charles Sanders Peirce 1839 1914, born in Cambridge, the son of a Harvard University
mathematician, was a scientist and philosopher. He is one of the odd people from American
philosophy, but he is intriguing. Though he never held any higher academic position he did publish
in the Popular Science Monthly (1073). His these is how to go from doubt to belief, and his
findings is that the scientific methodis the most promising way. Peirce gives that the earliest of
scienceand logic came from the Romans, then from Roger Bacon, who in the middle of the
thirteenth century was almost a scientific man, the schoolmen s conception of reasoning appeared
only an obstacle to truth (1074), then Bacon gave his book on Novum Organum, gave his clear

Peirce says. Doubt is an uneasy and dissatisfied state from which we struggle to free ourselves
and pass into the state of belief (1077). He concludes that they both have positive effects on the
individual. The end of inquiry: When we doubt we tend to inquire what the truth is and the
come to an opinion, whether this opinion is true or not (1077). Methods of fixing belief: Peirce
applies four methods for fixing disbelief. The first is the method of tenacity, which is people s
stubbornness to change their minds. They stick to their positions and usually this method is
ineffectual for the person to change their mind on their position. The method of authority is a
means for fixing belief, as it takes away the focus on the individual, Peirce feels this method is
superior to the method of tenacity (1079). The method of a priori is, far more intellectual and
respectable from the point of view of reason than either of the others which we have noticed.
Indeed, as long as no better method can be applied, it ought to be followed, since it is then the
expression of instinct which must be the ultimate cause of belief in all cases. But its failure has
been the most manifest (1080). Which leads to what he believes id the true conclusion, the method

nationalities, ethnic groups religious groups and regions. We could use and example as those that

about the difference between their politics their lifestyles and maybe their economies regional and

John Brown s Insanity
John Brown was an African American slave abolitionist who caused much conflict with his
radical views to overthrow slavery. One of his many defeats where he tried to defeat slavery
with violence was the armed slave rebellion on Harper s Ferry. In a speech to the court before his
sentencing, Brown stated his actions to be just and God sanctioned. Brown lived a life full of
dispute; yet it was not until after Harper Ferry where his madness was confirmed. Brown soon
became a hero in the eyes of Northern extremists and was quick to capitalize on his growing
reputation. Brown s radical abolitionist movements and wicked violent actions on slaverypromoted
his reputation in the north and were the cherry on the sundae to validate his insanity.... Show more

of his colleagues also petitioned that the courts should look at Brown s questionable mental state
when it came to his actions. With all the violence John Brown tried to create with his radical
actions to end slavery, his actions did very little to end slavery. On the contrary, slave owners in
the south treated slaves more barbaric because they started to feel threatened as his actions. Many
thought his rebellion was going to succeed so many treated the slaves as the target. Many believe
that his actions help stir up the civil war. In conclusion, John Brown tried to terminate slavery in

Parental Discipline And Child Abuse
How many times have you had a conversation with someone about how you were raised? I can
guarantee that at least one person mentioned that they were disciplined through punishments or
maybe this person might actually be you. The person who was forced to deal with punishments as
a child most likely became more disciplined earlier than everyone else and most likely still is.
To be clear, the intended definition of punishments to be used is a penalization for committing an
act that would be considered unacceptable in the eyes of the parent i.e swearing, fighting, being
disrespectful, etc. This is also known as parental discipline. Although it may not seem like it there
is a clear boundary separating parental discipline from child abuse. Parental discipline is intended
for the betterment of the child, while child abuse is for the parent or guardian s sick, demented
pleasure. This clarification allows discussion to begin concerning the main point.
Even though it could be seen as abusive in the eyes of the public, parental discipline is necessary
for a child to become more mature at an early age. Not only will this early maturity allow the
child to develop a sense of right as well as becoming more of a selfless person, it also starts
molding them into a productive member of society with their own set of responsibilities.
The first reason for why parental discipline is necessary when raising a child, is that it makes a
child grow up realizing that the world doesn t revolve around

Ever since I can remember, I have always loved horses. At one point in my life I thought that I

probably be a horse trainer. So when I got older I was more than happy to find out that I could

old, and I had found a great program that dealt with disabled children called HorseSense. I have

time. A lot is known about his life and career but little is known about his character and
personality. He never married and seems to be a man of simple tastes. Patrons often found him
hard to deal with and he demanded a lot of artistic freedom. The inscriptions and signatures on his
works are among the earliest examples of classical Roman lettering. He had a more detailed range
of knowledge of ancient sculpture than any other artist of his time. His work was inspired by
ancient visual examples which he often transformed, he was ... Show more content on

He no longer modelled his shapes but he seemed to paint them with his chisel.
Donatello continued to explore the possibilities of the new technique he would use in his marble
reliefs of the 1420 s and early 1430 s. The best of these were The Ascension, with Christ giving
the keys to St. Peter, the Feast of Herod (1433 1435), the large stucco roundels with scenes from
the life of St. John the Evangelist (1434 1437), and the dome of the old sacristy of St. Lorenzo
shows the same technique but with color added.
Donatello had also become a major sculptor in bronze. His earliest work of this was the more than
life size statue of St. Louis (1423) which was replaced half a century later. Donatello in partnership
with Michelozzo helped with fine bronze effigy on the tomb of the pope John XXIII in the
bapistery, the Assumption of the Virgin on the Brancacci tomb and the dancing angels on the
outdoor pulpit of the Prato Cathedral (1433 1438).
His departure from the standards of Brunelleschi did not go to well between the two old friends
and was never repaired. Brunelleschi even made epigrams against Donatello.
During his partnership with Michelozzo, Donatello made works of pure sculpture, including
several works of bronze. The earliest and most important of these was the Feast of Herod (1423
1427). He also made two statuettes of Virtues and then three nude child angels (one which was

Fast Food Culture
I) Emergence
The fast food culture emerged as early as the 19th century. During the Industrial Revolution, a
large workforce was required to work for 10 to 12 hours a day. With so much work to be done, fast
food was the idea of a quick and easy lunch.
In India, fast food culture emerged in the decades after independence, starting from the 1950 s.
Eating at home used to be a significant aspect of Indian culture, so the change was gradual. Over a
period of time, with a growth in the number of nuclear families, economic growth and increasing
per capita income as well as globalization, fast food culture gained prominence. Women were
shifting from their conventional roles of managing the household and taking care of the children.

This requires a high degree of food engineering , the use of additives and processing techniques that
substantially alter the food from its original form and reduce its nutritional value.
The Indians living in the cities have completely forgotten about their traditional Indian dishes and
took to the Western fast food culture. A survey conducted by a leading Indian newspaper says that
over 23 per cent of the children in Delhi are obese. One hopes that this estimate is not true; if it is,
one shudders to think of the numbers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon and
other nouveau riche cities with their fast prevailing mall culture and fast food attractions.
Here is a typical scene from one such mall in Hyderabad. It has a 4 movie multiplex theatre,
surrounded by 40 odd fast food kiosks and 20 odd shops that sell clothing, perfumes and
jewellery, music and video CDs and DVDs. Not one of them sells traditional Indian meals or
snacks. And the mall, like 20 others in the city, is filled with thousands of youngsters who
obviously have enough to spend. We did not have such scenes in India twenty years ago, but this
mall and fast food culture is expanding explosively across India. This too is part of the
globalization of India, a part that causes great concern about the health of its citizens.
Today, the world is witnessing a total

The Longest Running Fued is the Sunni and Shia Conflict
The Sunni and Shia conflict is currently the longest running feud in the world. Both groups
possess an extreme hatred for one another. Over the years, these two groups have openly
expressed their hatred with one another through violent killings. This split between the Shia and
Sunni originates all the way back in the 7th century. Their difference was based on political
differences. As a part of my essay I will explain the difference and origins of the split between the
Shi a and Sunni and also cover the current issues between them.
I have always assumed that the Sunni and Shia conflict is similar to the war between the Catholic
and Protestant, however it is much more complex and different. These two branches of Islam share
the same Holy Book and all agree that Allah is there God. Sunni and Shia both believe that the
last prophet was Muhammad. However, when Muhammad died, there was a disagreement of
who would be Muhammad s successor. There were two candidates to be the successor of
Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali bin Abi Talib was Muhammad s cousin and son
in law. Abu Bakr was Muhammad s friend and senior companion. The Sunni Muslims believed
that the leadership should be granted to the person with most experience. On the other hand, the
Shi a believed the decision should be based purely through Muhammad s bloodline. The majority
of Muslim ended up choosing Abu Bakr to be the Caliph (successor). However, Abu Bakr s rule
was shortlived when he died in 634 CE.

The Boston University Archaeology Department Essay
On May 9th, 2016, the Boston University Archaeology Department held a public outreach event
called, Eating Archaeology , where guests were served foods from four different time periods and
places: Bronze age Mycenae, Bronze age China, Pre Columbian Mesoamerica, specifically the
Aztecs, and mid 19th century Boston. The creation of these dishes was made possible through
analyzing archaeological sites through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeologyof the
senses, which studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how
humans use their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses, archaeologists can
create a more detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient humans (Hamilakis i). This new
interest in the sensory aspect of human culture brings a fascination with the types of foods that
people consumed in the past. With this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of
archaeology, food history, and gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material
remains can be used to recreate ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part
of the culture that ate the dish, illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that archaeology
can be used to create something tangible for the public. This paper will focus on the research
process for the mid 19th century brothel site, located in Boston, and how the materials gathered
during excavation were used to reconstruct the

The Rise And Fall Of Bernie Ebbers
Introduction
One of America s famous corporate leaders rose to prominence like a whirlwind and, then years
after the euphoria, he fell from grace. Bernard Ebbers, a Mississippian native, became the face of
America s corporate world just for a short time. Then, his glory ended only to face allegations of
fraud, abuse, and other corporate malpractices. The rise and fall of Bernie Ebbers shocked the
business world for he lived, then, in modesty, supported education and contributed to his
community. Ebbers community called him responsible business leader (Trevino Brown, p. 90) and
author George Gilder described him as one of the most fascinating, improbable, and inspiring in
North American business (p. 90).

Q3. Identify some theoretical linkages between Ebbers s leadership style as practiced and the
behavior that occurred within WorldCom.
Answer: Ebbers self inflicted, self centered, transactional leadership style paved the way for the
firm s demise. He loaned subordinates to ensure compliance, loyalty, and cooperation. A
transformational leader leads subordinates to achieve goals for all. The main issue is trust, a trait
that is higher in transformational than in transactional leadership (Principles of Management, 2015).
Ebbers decided otherwise. He surrounded himself with a select group of people and kept others in
the dark on decision making.
Q4. The law firm report identified Ebbers as the source of a culture that resulted in the company s
accounting fraud. How did Ebbers s leadership style contribute to the values and actions of key

Cannabinoids Vs Synthetic Drugs
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines synthetic as made by combining different substances: not
natural. It also defines a drug as a substance recognized in an official pharmacopoeia or formulary.
(Merriam Webster dictionary 2016). Synthetic drugs have been compounded chemically to be
equivalent to marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine which can be purchased over the counter at
local convenience stores, gas stations and smoke shops. The synthetic drugs are divided into two
different categories according to their chemical makeup. The first category is known as
Cannabinoids, which is also known as K2 or Spice. The cannabinoids groups are lab manufactured

the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Transfer Center. I am currently doing my graduate
assistantship at the ELAC Transfer Center. Therefore, I thought it would be a more meaningful
experience to choose this department to review using the CAS standards because it offers the
opportunity to learn more about the department and probably provide my supervisor suggestions
that can help improve the department to be more effective in serving students. I interviewed two
individuals in the department in order to get some insight on how well of a job the department is

Program
The primary elements of the department are academic advising, transfer application assistance,
transfer assistance, academic counseling. As a strength, the program is intentional in providing
students with reliable information to transfer, since the information is always changing. Also, the
department is strong in implementing services such as conferences, workshops, summer programs,
and campus tours that with assist students in the transfer process. Another strength of the
department is a consistent collaboration with other programs within the institution to benefit the
students such as collaboration with programs like Puente and EOP S in which these programs bring
their student to the Transfer Center to attend Transfer 101 workshops. An area in which the
department was inconsistent with the CAS standards was in not having established student learning
outcomes. In addition, the department was also inconsistent in their program design not using
multiple formats to deliver the information, for example lacking a video presence, not doing
enough to engage with parents, therefore being unconsidered of their student population.
Organization and Leadership The leadership practices of the department are consistent with the
CAS standards in that its practices

How Does Epicurus Live A Good Life
In the book, Greek and Roman Philosophy after Aristotle, a letter from Epicurus to Menoeceus
is shared with us. (Saunders, 1966). Epicurus (341 270 BCE) was a Greek philosopher and also
the father of Epicureanism. His beliefs are centered around one main theme: Death is nothing to
fear because when death is come, we are not (Saunders, pages 49 and 50). He declares these as
absolutes for all people on earth. It is through this brief exchange, I see that Epicurusis passionate
that people live a good life and they live it to the fullest possible potential, devoid of pain and fear,
while achieving pleasure. While his thoughts on life and, ultimately, death seem to evolve
throughout his letter, we begin to see that they contain some conditions and exceptions. It is
because of these that I do not fully agree with the Epicurean way.
Epicurus states that death is nothing to us. He goes on to say that since death is the cessation of
life and our souls die when our physical body dies, we should not bother ourselves with thoughts
of death. (Saunders, page 50). The action of dying will never be experienced because all
experience ceases upon the very occurrence of death. We should not cause ourselves anxiety by
fearing what we will never take part in.

The Lessons Learned From Park Play
Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to
what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens
the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the
more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that
parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life
like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become
well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re
believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what
sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually
watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of
having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that
government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings
needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could
benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club
teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in
a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I

He gives special attention to Lahilatoul Kalabi, the first black prince to make the Pilgrimage to

After seven years absence Lahilatoul was able to return, by the grace of Allah the Almighty

After the exile of Sundiata it gives him a chance to learn about the trade routes and people of his
region. An example of this long distance trade was in the chapter of The Baobab Leaves.
Sundiata s sister, Kolonkan, now of a marriageable age took on the role in society as a woman.

John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government
Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I
will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these
limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle.
There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others.
Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others.
Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to
be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke
theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more

In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of
freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are
perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way
they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set
by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of
nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and
privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the
freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and
Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when
considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited
to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government
becomes illegitimate.
Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle
s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative
freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive
freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the
ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist
to harm or foul to others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be

How Did Ashoka Spread

The moral that we can learn from hecate is that even though her name means The distant one she

The greeks and people from other nations come up with this myths because they were scared to

What Is The Difference Between Ancient Greek Mythology And...
Bachmann 1
Ancient Mythology Meets Modern Times People do not forget the gods. Every place they ve
ruled, for the last three thousand years, you can see them in paintings, in statues, on the most
important buildings, (Riordan, I Play... ). As Chiron states in Percy Jackson and the Olympians:
The Lightning Thief, the gods of olden times are still very much alive and are prominent in ways
that most do not see at first glance, such as still seeing statues dedicated to the gods at every corner.
Chiron was the most important figures in Greek mythology, as he taught and trained many heros
such as Hercules and Achilles. ( Chiron... ). Though maybe not in the conventional sense, the gods
still impact the human race.Although most do not believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Most people have heard of the Olympics, well the Olympics is originally traditions from Greece
that died out in the 5th century, but in 1896 the idea of a sports competition bringing nations
together was created again and is now held every 4 years, as it was in Greece (Green). In fact,
the original games were in honor of the king of the gods, Zeus, and were held in Olympia, a
rural haven in the western Peloponnese ( The Games... ). On another note, the PokГ©mon world
is filled with examples of mythology. PokГ©mon is a trademark for a series of Japanese pocket
monsters seen in video games, card games, toys, movies and television shows, ( PokГ©mon... ).
The PokГ©mon whiscash, a giant whiskered water/ground type, is known to cause earthquakes
in its pokГ©dex entries similar to the creature Onamazu from the Japanese mythology it came
from. Onamazu, in the myths, is a giant catfish constrained at the bottom of the sea and when it
struggles to escape, it is said to cause deadly earthquakes. Identically, Chinese legend states that
Bai Ze, a gorgeous beast with a flowing white mane, large horns, and several eyes, warned the
Yellow Emperor Huang Di when he was on patrol. It is said that the monster taught the Emperor
how to defeat many types of supernatural beings. This myth also spread to Japan as a kutabe,
which appeared to warn a village of a coming plague. The white creature seems to fit Absol s
pokГ©dex entries, an overview of a pokГ©mon, which talk about it emerging from the wilderness
to inform humans of oncoming disasters (Young). Even in pop culture, be it through a Japanese
videogame, fashion, or the Olympics mythology is

Accounting Luncheon
2.Clarify the misconstrued actions involved in the Accounting Luncheon and co worker rapport as
stated by Ms. Pancake.
In early December, the accounting team were scheduled to have a luncheon at Ibby s. Two days
prior to the event, a calendar invite had been sent to its attendants. Due to my shy nature, I had not
accepted the invitation, but unbeknownst to me, the attendance was required because, as the time
approached, Mr. Rackers asked me to prepare to leave with them. In candor, I was not comfortable
with nor interested in having lunch in such a setting, and worse, my co worker, Mr. Whittaker was
battling a severe cold that I was trying not to contract during this event.
Unfortunately, I do acknowledge the statement of my lagging behind from the rest of the team.
However, it was due to cramping from my previous ab workout at the gym, and it was painful to
move at a faster pace. I didn t want to burden anyone with my issues, and thus, did not disclose it.
Mr. Rackers had patiently awaited my arrival to the building while everyone else had gone ahead.
We then proceeded to meet the others who were still waiting to be seated.
After waiting to be seated, the manager from Etta s arrived, and shortly thereafter, we were then
introduced to our seats. I was directed to sit directly across from the Mr. ... Show more content on

course of action was to stay professional at all times. He was a good sport about the entire situation

This model is an expansion of the CAPM and it includes two additional variables, taking into
account size and book to market factors, as explanatory variables expressed within the model as
SMB and HML. The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Fama amp; French s three factors
model are both models account for the expected returns for stock albeit using different variables
to distinguish and add reliability to the predictions of these estimated returns. However, the
CAPM uses only one factor to determine the riskiness of the marketplace, Beta, whereas Fama
amp; French expands on this model, incorporate another two factors to establish the risk, Small
minus Big (SMB) and High Minus Low (HML), which take into account the relationships between
market and share size. Hence, in Fama amp; French s findings, stocks with higher beta did not
always perform better. The Three Factor Model is indeed preferred at predicting the returns of
stocks, in correlation with each models risk factor.
Moreover, although small stocks outperform large stocks in the past several years, we should not
expect small stocks to outperform large stocks in the future, because, in the future stock market,
there re quite a lot uncertainty, either, we might find the situation that a small stock can only

Similarities Between Their Eyes Were Watching God And...
The Hurricane and flood in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
illuminates the similarity between the novel and the natural disaster that occurred in south Florida
in 1992. In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the protagonist Janie marries and remarries
three times in hope of finding the right man who can help her find her voice. As can be seen,
Hurricane Andrewand the hurricane in the novel are similar in that they both correlate with one
another. Janie walks through a hurricane that symbolizes of all the troubles she faced in life which
is similar to Hurricane Andrew and the hardships it caused for many people living in south Florida
at the time. The hurricane being a metaphor for her other struggles, helps us get a clear
understanding of the hardships she faced in life. Once the storm ends, all these troubles Janie
had to face in life come to an end as well because now she gets to live a new life back in
Eatonville without any of these marriages or anything else that caused her troubles in life
previously. The claims made by Steinberg help analyze the similarities between Janie and
Hurricane Andrew which gives us a clear understanding of how Hurricane Andrew is a
representation of Janie s hardships in life.
In 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit south Florida destructing thousands upon thousands of homes,
killing people, leaving south Florida completely destroyed. The aftermath of Hurricane Andrew
took roughly two weeks until people started

argued Because China s principal appeal at the League of Nations was to European powers that

Obama Care Paper
19 April 2011 What can be done to help health care cost? The main cause for the healthcare reform
bill is the rising cost of health insurance for the American citizens. From the 1960s to the 1980s
healthcare spending went from $28 billion to $255 billion. By the beginning of 2000, healthcare
spending increased to $1.4 trillion. The United States economy has slowly declined due to several
factors, the cost of health care is one. Presidents, state representatives, hospital and insurance
executives, and economists have tried to attack this huge deficit. There are several things that can
be done in order to reduce rapidly increasing health care spending. Some actions that could benefit

Hospitals also provide unnecessary and expensive care to those patients that are on life support.
Discuss options with those patients and make sure they are aware of the cost they are willing to
leave their family to deal with. Helping hospitals cut those expenses is another important action
to take. A patient suffering from one or more major illnesses may depend on several different
doctors to help them. These doctors usually never talk to one other. The patient s medical bills
are stacking up because doctors are running the same test over again. With the doctors not
communicating, it means that there will be extra treatments, double prescriptions and more of
the same test. Patients should make sure their doctors talk to each other and know which test
have been given and the results of the test. A person can also keep their own medical records for
their personal files. Doctor offices will charge anywhere from $10 to $100 to transfer medical
records. There are some offices that do not charge if patients request a copy of their medical
records. Another major way to cut cost individually will just be for every citizen to take better
care of themselves. It does not take much for a person to eat better and to do mild exercising in
order to reduce their individual healthcare bills. Also, many common illnesses can be treated with
over the counter drugs. Do not

What Is The Verbiage Of The Magna Carta
The original Magna Carta signed by King John under the pressure of the English barons on June
15, 1215, marked an immeasurable change in the law in regards to the power of the sovereign in
England. While that first draft was only in use for a short time, the subsequent drafts and additions
by medieval and early modern kings and queens influenced law in continental Europe and the
Americas. The ideas outlined in the original charter contain not only medieval material but ideas,
perhaps not explicitly named, that are still prevalent and fundamental rights that Americans and
citizens of the United Kingdom continue to relish today. Ideas such as due process, trial by a jury
of peers, and even the origins of habeas corpusare found within the 61 clauses of this 800 year old
document. Clauses 39 and 40 represent those three fundamental, essential rights that cannot and
should not be deprived. The Magna Cartaand its articulation of due process before the law, trial
by a jury of peers, and habeas corpus were meant as a means of infringing on the power of the
tyrannical sovereign and it sparked the fight for personal liberties in England and the American
Colonies and in doing so has become a staple of Common Law.
Studying the verbiage of the Magna Carta is important, but the background and reasons for its
creation dictate how its original meaning can be interpreted by a modern scholar. The Battle of
Bouvines and the loss of England s landholdings in France was a catalyst for the creation of the
Magna Carta, but Henry II and King John had made decisions that had royally angered the barons
long before 1214. Throughout John s reign, the barons felt an increase in feudal obligations: they
were forced to provide more soldiers, take more subtenants, marry into undesirable alliances, and
their feudal courts power was being usurped by the royal courts and chancery. King John had been
excommunicated for not agreeing with Pope Innocent III s candidate for Archbishop of Canterbury,
and in doing so excommunicated the subjects of England. Combine all of those issues with losing
the duchies held by the Angevin Kings, and quite reasonably, there would be anger. In a society
where land is the cornerstone to profit and

Beloved Theme and Correlation to Slavery

This novel expands past the idea of individuals confined by their past dehumanization and slavery.
This novel which was written about a time period in which the inhumane treatment of people which

Many individuals crave and feel the need to be loved by others so they go looking for it whether
it be from spouse, relative, or friend ultimately everybody wants love. Love can be the most
beautiful thing in the world but love can also make one do crazy things. In Toni Morrison s Beloved
, many different love filled relationships are presented. There are family relationships between
siblings, and relationships between mother and children. There are relationships between adults
in various sorts. The relationships Sethe had with her children is crazy at first glance, and still
then some after. Sethe being a slave did not want to see her children who she loved go through
what she herself had to do. Sethe did not want her children to have their animal characteristics,
so when the bounty hunter came looking for Sethe and her children the love she had for them
forced Sethe to do unthinkable things to her children. Sethe attempted to murder all of her
children to avoid them being placed back into slavery. In her attempt only one actually died
which was her first born Daughter Beloved. Though Sethe tried to murder each of her children
Toni shows that Sethe was very remorseful and that could not properly function after the death of
beloved. Sethe could not feed baby Denver correctly and even got into a fight with Baby Suggs
because she fed Denver with Beloved blood still on her. Sethe even went as far as sleeping with
the Headstone engraver to get a tombstone for her child. Sethe deeply felt death was better than
slavery which is why even though she loved her children she crazily attempted to murder them.
Similar to the theme of love unity is also a major theme in

The next step would be to show the student how where they access this collection and how to

that have organized into the grade 5 age appropriate category. Once in this category I can show
him how to search through this material in order to find items that contain information about his
chosen subject. The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the
student is in grade 5 he probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very
popular tool for people of all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using
Google search. I will show him that refining your search using key terms can help you to find the
most useful information faster and with ease. After providing this explanation I will encourage the
student to try searching for some research materials by using the key words we came with together
in his Google search. Unfortunately though using the internet as a research tool does have its
dangers. After the student has finished his Google search using the key terms I will take some time
to talk to him about the importance of evaluation. Some websites present opinion as fact and using
this kind of information can have damaging effects on your research and your finished product.

Representation Of Helen In Euripides Women Of Troy
The representation of Helen in Homer s work and with how she is depicted in Euripides Women of
Troy enables the reader to understand different perspectives of Helen s personality seen throughout
both texts. Furthermore, these comparative methods in both texts will raise questions and
awareness to the depiction of Helen. In this essay, I will explore the perspective of how Euripides
displays a harsher judgement of Helen than in Homer s text.
Firstly, Helen was one of the most inspired characters in The Iliad. Helen was depicted as
powerless, beautiful and an object. After Paris taking Helen home, she realizes that Paris is not
able to realize the consequences of her disobedience. Homer allows the reader to understand that
Helen s decisions are made for her. For instance, Aphrodite s involvement in the duel on Helen s
behalf triggered Helen s thoughts on blaming the g ds for the war. By blaming Aphrodite, Helen
shows her disrespect for the g ds. However, Helen does not have a choice when she faces her
decisions. For example, Aphrodite s ordered her to return to the bedroom and make love with
Paris. Helen rebelled and later on, Aphrodite enraged told her to not provoke [her]... or in [her]
immortal rage [she] may just toss [her] over, hate [her] as [she] adores [her] with a vengeance
(Iliad, 3. 480 482). Secondly, Homer enables the reader to understand that Helen s guilt and terrible
beauty is cursed and he is not depicting her harshly. In addition, the g ds did not allow

English is compulsory second language taught in school beginning at Primary 1 and age seven. Malaysian students from different background in life have different levels of knowledge and proficiency in English. Every student has a different way of learning, and learns and progresses at different speeds. There are some students who find it difficult to do the task while others find it easy whenever teacher instructs on a task to be carried out by them. These mix abilities students are hard for teacher to approach one by one. Such situations become obstacles in the process of learning English as a second language. Teachers are unable to reach all of the students at one time. Teachers are also having problems in deciding the right activities and tasks to be carried out throughout the lesson to facilitate teaching and learning process. Blackberry Limited is a consumer and enterprise electronics manufacturer and communication services provider based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The company trades on both the Toronto Stock Exchange as BB and the NASDAQ as BBRY. The company, founded in 1984, released the BlackBerry wireless e mail device in 1999. The device was the first of its kind to enhance communication capability for employees of large enterprises while still allowing the corporation to retain control over the devices and how they are used. Large companies have been slow to adopt tablets, which is where BlackBerry may have, but did not, succeed. Per a succession of BlackBerry Ltd. earnings reports, lifetime shipments as of 2Q2013 totaled only 2.5 million units. For comparison, the Apple iPad sold 3.27 million units in its first quarter alone, and sales have only continued to increase. BlackBerry has not released a new version of the tablet since late 2012 and the unit was officially discontinued from sale in 2014. BlackBerry has always been strongest in their enterprise services sector. Even though hardware sales have always greatly surpassed service revenue, the service portfolio was the reason that most corporations signed on to the BlackBerry ecosystem. According to S P Capital IQ, BlackBerry believes it has the largest installed user base in the mobile device management (MDM) market through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) system, although this claim could not be independently verified. As Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating systems begin to emulate certain features of BES, however, and reviewing BlackBerry s dismal recent hardware releases, BlackBerry s viability as a competitor in today s highly innovative and fast paced mobile device market remains to be seen. Going forward, BlackBerry is in a remarkable state of uncertainty. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ethical Issues In A Hospital For this assignment, I spent time volunteering at Mercy Downtown, helping at the main information desk. While I was there, I assisted visitors in finding patients by looking up their room number, directed patients and visitors to the correct area of the hospital, and delivered flowers to rooms that had been dropped off. A paid employee also accompanied me while there, as volunteers are not allowed to actually look up patient information via the online portal, but I could call a different help desks within the hospital to ask other paid employees to look patients up for me if needed. The experience made me realize that there are so many little unthought of components to making a hospital as big as Mercy be efficient for everyone. The information... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have learned that no matter how many times people tell me not to judge a person by their appearance, I have grown up in a world where we still do it daily regardless of how hard we try not to. I go back and forth thinking about whether it s right or wrong to so openly give out patient room numbers but in the end, I think it s really only fair to do so. I think there could be changes, if possible phone up to a room and ask the patient if they know so and so, and if they want them to come to their room. Another option might be calling the nurses station or something on the floor, but I can only imagine how crazy that would drive employees who are trying to do their jobs. I can guess that most health care related organizations come across many situations and circumstances that could sway between ethical and unethical, and the decision about what to do is probably very difficult. It has been made very clear to me now, as to why hospitals have boards of directors with members from different backgrounds, so that there is really someone pulling from every angle to try and think about all the options to help make a sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the two men come face to face they are both shot from below establishing that there they are both strong figures, which is an important film noir tactic. The other officers around them are shot at eye level. The tension between them begins with a racial comment from Quinlin stating that Vargas doesn t sound like a Mexican. When Vargas reassures Quinlin that he wont he won t have any trouble with him, Quinlin responds with, you bet your sweet life I wont. The shot ends with a second of silence focused from below on Quinlin s shadowed face. The use of shadows is also a key element of film noir, which helps to create the dark and mysterious world that surrounds the characters. Quinlin increasingly represents a common character in film noir. Although he is a strong character in the eyes of his fellow officers, he is portrayed as a loner who has become disillusioned and insecure. His scenes with Tanya Tana (Marlene Deitrich) are revealing of Quinlin s past and his downward spiral since then. She comments that she didn t recognize him and that he should lay off the candy bars making it obvious that Quinlin has physically deteriorated since they were at one time involved. As the film goes on Quinlin falls back into drinking and spends the later part of the film completely intoxicated. • 8. Deception In The Inferno And Boccaccio s The Deccameron The theme of lying and deception reoccur frequently throughout Dante s, The Inferno and Boccaccio s, The Decameron. In Dante s, The Inferno we meet Geryon, a monster who leads Dante and Virgil into the eighth circle of hell. Dante believes that committing fraud and deception are the worst sin s and he illustrates that through Geryons physical traits, and where Geryon leads them, Malebolge. In Malebolge, the eighth circle of hell, Dante further illustrates the themes of lies and deception by the sinners he meets and the stories he is told. The themes of lies and deception are prevalent not only through the Infernobut, also through Boccaccio s, The Decameron. Throughout The Decameron, Boccaccio uses lies and deception to build his hero s throughout the stories. The first story takes the theme of lies and deception and shows them through the character, Ciappelletto. Ciappelletto lies his way to heaven and ends up being praised by a city upon death, although his whole life he has been a sinner. Boccaccio often uses lies and deception to lead the characters to heaven, compared to Dante who sees how lies and deception have led the characters to hell. Throughout both texts the theme of lies and deception are prevalent and play a significant role in both stories. In Dante s, The Inferno, lies and deception are represented strongly through the monster Geryon. Geryon has many deceiving characteristics that represent lying and fraud. Dante describes Geryon as, His face is appealing like that of an honest man, but his body end in a scorpion like stinger. (Dante 223) Geryon has the face of an innocent man, which represents your typical person committing fraud, like we see in big business today. His scorpion like tail represents the downside to these businessmen because even though they look good at first, they are going to come back and sting you, by committing fraud against you. Geryon takes Vigil and Dante from the seventh circle of hell into the final circle of hell, Malebolge. In Malebolge, Dante and Virgilmeet many sinners who have committed the act of fraud, all of the sinners are punished in unique ways depending on what type of fraud they committed. Aboriginal Stereoptype Aboriginal Stereotypes Janyce McKee Vancouver Island University Introduction In our society, we have placed a lot of negative beliefs or stereotypes on the first nations communities. We have given them stereotypes such as, the lazy Indian , the uneducated Indian , the dumb Indian and the drunken Indian . In this paper I will discuss the stereotype of the drunken Indian . I will highlight where the drunken Indian stereotype came from and why it exists. I will explain what this stereotype means and the impact it has on first nations communities. They gave her something for anxiety and restrained her to the hospital bed because she kept getting out of her bed to throw up. She died in that hospital due to infection in the abdomen and was portrayed as a drunken Indian so did not get the medical help she needed for her gun shot wound (Peters, H. Sels, B., 2005). This is a clear example of the meaning of the drunken Indian stereotype. How the Stereotype Effects the Health and Well being of Children I believe that having the drunk Indian stereotype will greatly affect children, families and communities. For a child growing up in a community with the belief in the stereotype that all first nation people are drunken Indians would cause that child to have low self esteem. If these children were teased at school by their non aboriginal peers this would have a negative effect on the child as well. These children who already have low self esteem could turn to alcohol and drugs as a way of coping with the feelings they have about themselves. Parents of these children who have survived the residential schools don t know how to cope with everything they have lost and everything they have been through. They have turned to alcohol to mask their emotions. Over time as these children were taken away from their homes and put into residential schools they were losing the chance to parent their children. • 10. Real Estate Data Set This task involves trying to give an educated guess on a linear regression model for pricing real estate using a real facts date set using numbers and facts. Normally two approaches are used for valuing a real estate property: income and sales comparison. The sales assessment approach values a real estate property based on sale prices of similar properties. In this case the properties with familiar individuality are basically on the same price level, it would be typical to use a linear regression model to complete this demonstration. Our team will examine the significance of numerous independent variables to a real estate value. Two important strategies to regression testing is to run all test, and run a subset of the test based on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The correlation is 41% between Bdrm and Size. We have concluded that there is no problem of multicollinearity in the data. We also found that Price and Size have relatively large scales compared with other variables. So it is natural to consider the logarithmic form of these two variables. We will run a new regression in which the regressor is log (price) and the regressand Size is replaced by its logarithm log (size). The R squared of this new model is around 60%, even a little lower than the original model. The statistical significance of other independent variables keeps almost unaffected. The analysis of coefficients in this model with logarithms is not intuitive. So we still stick to the reduced linear model estimated in (a). We analyzed the OLS residuals to check for possible heteroskedasticity for a cross sectional data set. We computed the fitted values of Price and OLS residuals in our model. Then residuals are sorted by fitted values of Price, and a scatter diagram of residuals is plotted against the fitted values in Figure 2. It is observed that all points are fairly scattered and there is no obvious pattern for the dependence of the residuals on the fitted values. • 11. Depression Attribution Theory and Depression Mike E. Calderin Christopher Newport Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that way. People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different areas of peoples lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different areas including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff depression is defined as, a medical illness that causes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The interesting thing about his findings is that this attitude affected further performance on later tests that were different. Just like self fulfilling prophecy; if you are of the mindset you won t do well then you probably will not. Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al., 2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al., 2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to the many different facets of depression. By targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the fluid flow meters experiment was to determine the operating characteristics of the Venturi and orifice meters. The purpose of the tray hydraulics experiment was to study the vapor and liquid tray hydraulics parameters for sieve, or perforated, trays in a distillation column. By performing experiments based on theory and comparing results to literature values, the objectives of this experiment can be achieved. Both the orifice and the Venturi meters produce a restriction in the flow and measure the pressure drop across the meter. The velocity of a fluid is expected to increase as the fluid flows from an open area, to a more constricted area. Assuming incompressible flow, a negligible height change, and steady state, Bernoulli s equation can be simplified to show the correlation between the volumetric flow rate and the pressure drop. The equation for both meters is as follows: w=QПЃ=CYA22gc(p1 p2)ПЃ1 ОІ4 (1) 1 where A2 is the cross sectional area of the throat, C is the coefficient of discharge (dimensionless), gc is the dimensional constant, Q is the volumetric rate of discharge measured at upstream pressure and temperature, w is the weight rate of discharge, p1 and p2 are the pressures at upstream and downstream static pressure taps, respectively, Y is a dimensionless expansion factor, ОІ is the ratio of the throat diameter to pipe ... The environmental assessment panel concluded this knowledge gap was compounded by Nalcor s decision to exclude Lake Melville from the environmental assessment from detailed study. Nalcor based this decision on their prediction that there would be no measurable impacts downstream. (Make Muskrat Right, 2016). Lake Melville: Avativut, Kanuittailinnivut research program was initiated by the Nunatsiavut Government, the LabradorInuit self government body to do more research on the downstream effects. An independent team of scientific experts from Canada and the USA carried out research to fully understand the effects of how Muskrat Falls would impact Lake Melville s eco system and the communities that depend on it for a living and also to anticipate the potentially constituting impacts of changing climate. Within the findings is evidence from Harvard University scientists of detrimental impacts on methyl mercury concentration in the Lake Melville ecosystem and increased Inuit exposure to methyl mercury from Muskrat Falls. These findings are substantially different than predictions presented in the Lower Churchill EA by Nalcor Energy. He is one of the odd people from American philosophy, but he is intriguing. Though he never held any higher academic position he did publish in the Popular Science Monthly (1073). His these is how to go from doubt to belief, and his findings is that the scientific methodis the most promising way. Peirce gives that the earliest of scienceand logic came from the Romans, then from Roger Bacon, who in the middle of the thirteenth century was almost a scientific man, the schoolmen s conception of reasoning appeared only an obstacle to truth (1074), then Bacon gave his book on Novum Organum, gave his clear account... He concludes that they both have positive effects on the individual. The end of inquiry: When we doubt we tend to inquire what the truth is and the come to an opinion, whether this opinion is true or not (1077). Methods of fixing belief: Peirce applies four methods for fixing disbelief. The first is the method of tenacity, which is people s stubbornness to change their minds. They stick to their positions and usually this method is ineffectual for the person to change their mind on their position. The method of authority is a means for fixing belief, as it takes away the focus on the individual, Peirce feels this method is superior to the method of tenacity (1079). The method of a priori is, far more intellectual and respectable from the point of view of reason than either of the others which we have noticed. Indeed, as long as no better method can be applied, it ought to be followed, since it is then the expression of instinct which must be the ultimate cause of belief in all cases. But its failure has been the most manifest (1080). Which leads to what he believes id the true conclusion, the method of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Parental Discipline And Child Abuse How many times have you had a conversation with someone about how you were raised? I can guarantee that at least one person mentioned that they were disciplined through punishments or maybe this person might actually be you. The person who was forced to deal with punishments as a child most likely became more disciplined earlier than everyone else and most likely still is. To be clear, the intended definition of punishments to be used is a penalization for committing an act that would be considered unacceptable in the eyes of the parent i.e swearing, fighting, being disrespectful, etc. This is also known as parental discipline. Although it may not seem like it there is a clear boundary separating parental discipline from child abuse. Parental discipline is intended for the betterment of the child, while child abuse is for the parent or guardian s sick, demented pleasure. This clarification allows discussion to begin concerning the main point. Even though it could be seen as abusive in the eyes of the public, parental discipline is necessary for a child to become more mature at an early age. Not only will this early maturity allow the child to develop a sense of right as well as becoming more of a selfless person, it also starts molding them into a productive member of society with their own set of responsibilities. The first reason for why parental discipline is necessary when raising a child, is that it makes a child grow up realizing that the world doesn t revolve around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their difference was based on political differences. As a part of my essay I will explain the difference and origins of the split between the Shi a and Sunni and also cover the current issues between them. These two branches of Islam share the same Holy Book and all agree that Allah is there God. Sunni and Shia both believe that the last prophet was Muhammad. However, when Muhammad died, there was a disagreement of who would be Muhammad s successor. There were two candidates to be the successor of Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali bin Abi Talib was Muhammad s cousin and son in law. Abu Bakr was Muhammad s friend and senior companion. The Sunni Muslims believed that the leadership should be granted to the person with most experience. The creation of these dishes was made possible through analyzing archaeological sites through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeologyof the senses, which studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how humans use their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses, archaeologists can create a more detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient humans (Hamilakis i). This new interest in the sensory aspect of human culture brings a fascination with the types of foods that people consumed in the past. With this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of archaeology, food history, and gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material remains can be used to recreate ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part of the culture that ate the dish, illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that archaeology can be used to create something tangible for the public. Epicurus (341 270 BCE) was a Greek philosopher and also the father of Epicureanism. His beliefs are centered around one main theme: Death is nothing to fear because when death is come, we are not (Saunders, pages 49 and 50). He declares these as absolutes for all people on earth. It is through this brief exchange, I see that Epicurusis passionate that people live a good life and they live it to the fullest possible potential, devoid of pain and fear, while achieving pleasure. While his thoughts on life and, ultimately, death seem to evolve throughout his letter, we begin to see that they contain some conditions and exceptions. It is because of these that I do not fully agree with the Epicurean way. Epicurus states that death is nothing to us. He goes on to say that since death is the cessation of life and our souls die when our physical body dies, we should not bother ourselves with thoughts of death. (Saunders, page 50). • 32. The Lessons Learned From Park Play Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike the previous two books we have read this semester I found this book much more simple. This book was much easier for me to comprehend and actually get into. This book exposed me not only to the West African history, but also a new religion. The story of Sundiata depicts the story of the foundation of the Mali Empirein West Africa. This story takes place during a transitional time period, when the trade network that linked towns and villages across western Africaattracted north African merchants who brought increasing Muslim influence. After the exile of Sundiata it gives him a chance to learn about the trade routes and people of his region. An example of this long distance trade was in the chapter of The Baobab Leaves. Sundiata s sister, Kolonkan, now of a marriageable age took on the role in society as a woman. She was at the market she noticed a woman who was offering for sale nofiola, and gnougou, condiments unknown to the people of Mema (Sundiata, 43). • 34. John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle. There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others. Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others. Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate. Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. • 45. What Is The Verbiage Of The Magna Carta The original Magna Carta signed by King John under the pressure of the English barons on June 15, 1215, marked an immeasurable change in the law in regards to the power of the sovereign in England. While that first draft was only in use for a short time, the subsequent drafts and additions by medieval and early modern kings and queens influenced law in continental Europe and the Americas. The ideas outlined in the original charter contain not only medieval material but ideas, perhaps not explicitly named, that are still prevalent and fundamental rights that Americans and citizens of the United Kingdom continue to relish today. Ideas such as due process, trial by a jury of peers, and even the origins of habeas corpusare found within the 61 clauses of this 800 year old document. Clauses 39 and 40 represent those three fundamental, essential rights that cannot and should not be deprived. The Magna Cartaand its articulation of due process before the law, trial by a jury of peers, and habeas corpus were meant as a means of infringing on the power of the tyrannical sovereign and it sparked the fight for personal liberties in England and the American Colonies and in doing so has become a staple of Common Law. Studying the verbiage of the Magna Carta is important, but the background and reasons for its creation dictate how its original meaning can be interpreted by a modern scholar. The Battle of Bouvines and the loss of England s landholdings in France was a catalyst for the creation of the Magna Carta, but Henry II and King John had made decisions that had royally angered the barons long before 1214. Throughout John s reign, the barons felt an increase in feudal obligations: they were forced to provide more soldiers, take more subtenants, marry into undesirable alliances, and their feudal courts power was being usurped by the royal courts and chancery. King John had been excommunicated for not agreeing with Pope Innocent III s candidate for Archbishop of Canterbury, and in doing so excommunicated the subjects of England. Combine all of those issues with losing the duchies held by the Angevin Kings, and quite reasonably, there would be anger. In a society where land is the cornerstone to profit and ...
