The Roy Adaptation Model is based on von Bertalanffy's General Systems Theory and Helson's Adaptation-Level Theory. It views humans as adaptive systems that interact with changing environments. The goal of nursing according to the Roy Model is to promote adaptation in four modes: physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. Nurses can influence a person's adaptation by identifying stimuli and making changes to improve coping mechanisms and achieve an adaptive level of response.

7. Changing Point influenced by the demands of the situation and the person’s internal resources, including capabilities hopes, dreams, aspirations, motivations. Represents the persons ability to respond. Adaptive Level

8. Adaptive Level The response (output) or behavior is a function of the input stimuli and the adaptation level. It is adaptive or ineffective.

9. Identify the environment as a significant concept of adaptation. Stimuli are environmental influences. 3 type: focal contextual, or residual.

11. Contextual Stimuli All other stimuli present that contribute to the focal stimuli. Influence how the person can deal with the focal stimulus.
