In this paper I ve researched different texts and different information on the topic of federalism to
have a good understanding and knowledge of it. I found many sources of great information to

goal in this paper is to give a good understanding to what I ve learned and give great detail on

power over the same region. Usually the higher national government governs the issues that concern
the entire country, and smaller subdivisions govern issues of their local concern, but both have the
power to make and enforce laws. Good examples of federalist countries would be Canada,
Germany, France, and the United States. The federal governmentis granted power to mint money,

3. Marx Vs Saussure
Throughout history, we are continuously fighting to interpret our reality and the things which
comprise one and other. This is not a simple task for one to take on, but multiple historical thinkers
have taken it upon themselves to question the components of interpretation and find the meaning
that it is grounded upon. Specifically, Ferdinand de Saussureand Karl Marx propose fundamental
critics that are embedded within modern day thinking shaping our ideals and the functionality we
see within language and reality. Saussure and Marx take two different approaches to understanding
history, language and culture, they provide this through both scientific and critical methods for
interpreting reality and the things which it is trying to represent.... Show more content on

The relationship that the signifier and signified elements share though is arbitrary, which is a key
property. Due to the fact that these two share an arbitrary bond, it puts in question the reliability of
their interpretation of things, such as the words and the nature which stands behind them. The
arbitrary attributes both the signifier and signified share show that there is a type of break that
occurs between the sound image and the idea itself this pushes Saussure to state that language
itself is unmotivated; what is trying to be represented is not a natural occurrence. Saussure directs
the audience into realizing that even though one believes that there is a natural link between the
meaning of a thing, like a dog, and what is trying to be represented, the actual dog, this is a
forced thing which we have to learn and not a natural occurrence. In order to provide clarity of

4. Lumbar Discectomy Lab Report
Abstract
Object
Lumbar spine surgery can be performed using a variety of anesthetic modalities, most notably
general or spinal anesthesia. The aim of this study was to determine if either anesthetic modality is
more cost effective in cases of lumbar discectomy or laminectomy spine surgery.
Methods
542 patients who underwent elective lumbar spine surgery at the University of Pennsylvania
between 2007 2011 performed by a single faculty surgeon were retrospectively identified, with 364
having received spinal anesthesia and 178 having received general anesthesia. Demographic,
physiological, and cost data were collected retrospectively. Mean direct operating cost, indirect cost,

This may partly be a consequence of the fact that the standard technique for general anesthesia is
endotracheal intubation. 6 Since prone positioning increases the risk of airway compromise,
anesthesiologists may prefer secure airway establishment with endotracheal intubation. 5 Another
reason could be that surgeons are able to perform longer operations using general anesthesia or that
there is greater patient acceptance and comfort. 15 Though these considerations should definitely be
taken into account, the health, efficiency, and cost benefits of spinal anesthesia cannot be ignored.
As with any retrospective study, the strength of the conclusions presented in this study are limited
by the potential for selection bias. We did employ a multivariate regression analysis to control for
possible cofounding variables, but recognize that we could not identify and account for all factors
that may have influenced cost. It should also be emphasized that regional variations in surgical care
and cost exist, which implies that our conclusions may not be applicable to other institutions. 19
These limitations would be overcome with future prospective randomized controlled studies at

7. Essay on Gender and Music Preference
Gender and Music Preference There are so many different forms and genres of music that people
admire. Even older genres that have seemed to die out still have fans such as disco or polka.
Many researchers discuss why people favor the music that they do. This has been a popular
topic in music research considering how important music has become in everyday life. Music is
played in the car, on the internet, on cellphones, and even behind commercials on television. It is
hard to imagine a world without it. Now there are many reasons discussed about why people
prefer one kind of music over another, such as one s age. One s age could determine what music
was popular when they were a kid, or what genres they have been around to experience.... Show

Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their
listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the
reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves
themes of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age,
ethnicity, culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left
out. While some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting
into the generic stereotypes. I disagree and believe that gender does take part in the music selection
one makes.
Literature Review Kelly D. Schwartz and Gregory T. Fouts created a study set out to examine the
personality characteristics and developmental issues of three different groups of adolescent
music listeners. The first group analyzed was adolescent listeners who preferred light qualities of
music. The second group was those who preferred heavy kinds of music, and the last were for
those who preferred a wide range of music. One hundred and sixty four adolescents participated in

Parade A parade is a public possession causing some of these to be celebrate for a special day or
event. People can even win prizes for being in them. I attended the Kennett Delta Parade on
September 29th. I really enjoyed watching it! I thought it was the longest parade, but it had so
much entertainment. In summary, the parade included the police department, tractors, modern
cars, floats, marching units, school bands, school clubs, and sport teams from different areas.
The parade even carried the delta fair queen and maids. My favorite section of the parade were
the floats considering some people get so creative decorating. The floats were awarded. First
place won $1000, second place won $600, third place won $450, fourth place won $350, and
fifth place won $250. Some people bring in their competitive side, which makes it really
amusing to watch. At the same time, I felt like I was part of the community when I attended the
Kennett Delta Parade. Parades combine some of my favorite things: community, faith, family,
patriotism, and simply being involved. Events like these bring everyone together. However, I
chose this specific event because I show up every year and really enjoy coming to watch. Not
only is it thrilling, but it also keeps me from staying home. I will continue to attend to this event
in the future because every year it is different. I surely do not plan on missing any of it. The
sensation of the Kennett Delta Fair Parade is something I look forward to every year.

speed of light and kicking up mounds of dirt along the way, I make it to third base. While
standing on the dusty old bag, bent over and catching my breath, I feel an overwhelming amount
of joy. I just stand and smile as wide as the Chesire cat, while the fans and my teammates go

my team was inspired. We played harder than ever before, making some unbelievable plays

On the ride home, I felt a sense of relief and peace. I was exhausted but felt like I was on Cloud 9,

10. Proprietary Technologies And Infrastructural Technologies
In 2003, Carr published a controversial article IT Doesn t Matter that put IT in a different light.
Carr makes a distinction between proprietary technologies and infrastructural technologies. He
argues that proprietary technologies are those that can be actually or effectively owned by a single
company (Carr, 2013, p. 42). Proprietary technologies can create strategic advantage as long as they
remain protected, and can provide companies with a lot of profit. Meanwhile, Infrastructural
technologies provide greater value when shared. Technologies move from proprietary to
infrastructure as they mature.
Moreover, Carr asserts that IT has lost its strategic value. He argues that IT is no longer strategic
because it has stopped to be scarce goods. In addition, he mentions that profit margins on IT related
innovations will disappear. This argument is based on capital intensive goods such as railroads and
steam engines. I disagree with this statement. IT should not be compared to such goods. The
marginal cost of IT products does not increase with greater scale. Thus, any business that can
decrease marginal cost by installing IT can make IT investments profits large and gain improved
strategic value.
Furthermore, Carr argues that IT is primarily transport technology, and because everyone got
access to IT, it s no longer offers an advantage. I disagree with Carr. IT provides the primary means
for increasing the companies knowledge capital. IT helps businesses manage the

13. The Difference Between Child Abuse And Discipline
Do you know the difference between child abuse and discipline? Child Abuse is when someone
physically and mentally hurts another person. Discipline is teaching someone or something to do
the right thing. Child Abuse is very common in the United States. Many children suffer from
bruising, swelling skin, and broken bones. Situations like this happen because of problems at
home or personal problems. Parents at home abuse their children because of drinking and
depression issues. In this crazy world, there are numerous types of abuses. There is sexual abuse,
physical abuse, neglect, and emotional or psychological abuse. Sexual abuse is an intentional
incident that involves sexual relationship to a child using all their power and taking advantage of

16. Erikson s Psychosocial Theory And Psychosocial Development
Theories and Theorists
Theories are the building blocks of psychology. Theories whether old or new has allowed us to
know what we know now. There are many theories in the field of psychology or educational
psychology that are important to further understand human behavior. However, this paper will
focus on only two theories which are; Erikson s psychosocial theory and Alfred Adlers Adlerian
theory.
Erik Erikson s psychosocial development has always been a great contribution to the field of
psychology by Erik Erikson (Berk, 2007). Erikson suggested that everyone experiences a series of
psychosocial stages instead of psychosexual stages as proposed by Sigmund Freud. Despite the fact
that Erikson disagreed with Sigmund Freud in so many areas in his psychosexual theory, it was
actually Freud s psychosexual theory that helped Erikson formulate his own psychosocial theory
and Erikson was very much influenced by Sigmund and his work (Erikson, 1968). So even if
Erikson disagreed with Freud, Sigmund actually contributed to Erikson s psychosocial theory
because if it wasn t for Freud s shortcomings in his psychosexual theory, Erikson would not have
come up with his own psychosocial theory (Erikson, 1968).
Freud and Erikson hold opposite views on many things. However, they did agree on a few things
to like how they both believed that personality develops in a series of set stages. But dissimilar
from Freud s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson s theory depicts the influence of

19. Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in...
In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his
philosophy of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on
confirming that space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to
why they are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively
necessary for experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary
qualities, which belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time,
secondary qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still
successfully claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as
distinguish them from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory
of transcendental idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in
themselves (Rohlf). Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive
things in themselves. This means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects
appear and not properties of things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent
and nor are they substances that have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three
conclusions for time. In conclusion (a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of
things in themselves (A26/B42). He also

Capote was a literary pop star at the height of his fame in 1966, after he had written such classic

Capote validates Smith for trying to break out of the social mold of the problem child . Capote
is also indifferent towards the lives of the Clutters. Mr. Clutter couldn t escape Perry Smith s

on the society that shunned him. The motifs that capote uses in this novel were the animals that
he featured in it. The animals that Capote mentions in this book are weak and defenseless, and
they symbolize the defenselessness of Smith and even of Capote. Capote was frustrated with
societies condemnation of people outside the social norms, and it show in this book through his
pessimistic point of view. He feels contempt for the pious Clutter family because they

I was particularly happy when a student would give a solution that is different from the one I had in
mind. In that instance, I would encourage the student to give further details and I would ask other
students if they had other methods. This ensured that the students were not only engaged but
actively contributing to the lecture. Even though student engagement is easier to accomplish in
smaller classrooms, it is even more important in larger classrooms where students voices drown in
the hollow of the lecture hall. Ensuring that at least a portion of the students is engaged will
encourage certain students to ask questions which are likely to be on the mind of other, more
reserved, students.
In my opinion, learning in a class should simulate scientific research as much as possible. When a

23. The Over Representation Of The New Zealand s Crime Sector...
The over representation of indigenous peoples and minority groups in crime rates is a significant
issue appearing in several countries worldwide. This essay will focus in on the over
representation of Maori in New Zealand s crime sector. The disproportionate levels of crime within
the Maori population will be looked at first through a contemporary strain theory lens using the
relationship between Police and Maori as an example to demonstrate how Maori may end up over
represented in the official crimestatistics. A critical criminologytheoretical framework, namely
labelling theory, will then be used to provide further understanding about why the over
representation of Maori in crime rates has remained consistent through several generations.
Individuals who identify as Maori currently make up 15% of New Zealand s population (Quince,
2007) , this reduces when age is taken account; where of New Zealand s population over 15
years old, 12.5% identify as Maori (Elers, 2012). Grossly disproportionate to this is the
representation of the Maori population in New Zealand crime rates. Studies have shown that in
New Zealand, Maori individuals are approximately 38 39% more likely to be prosecuted and
convicted of an offence than non Maori. They also showed that Maori individuals were nine times
more likely than non Maori to be kept in custody whilst awaiting trial for an offence. They are
seven times more likely to receive a custodial sentence after conviction and are markedly less

The absolute of form of sovereign immunity can be found in the case of Schooner Exchange V.
McFaddon (1812). In the case, two Americans filed a suit against the Schooner Exchange, claiming
that they owned the ship and arguing that the ship had been taken by force by France in 1810. But
the United States Supreme Court gave its decision that under international law, jurisdiction over
another country could be waived in some specific situations. That means since the ship had already
been in the possession of France, the ship was generally free from the jurisdiction of domestic
courts in the US when visiting the country. Then the historical development of immunities took a
turn to another different direction. The US State Department issued the

Jessica is directly liable for causing the accident and has to be held to the legal standards for her
actions of reckless driving. WV Steel has will be held liable as the employer of Jessica Smith
and of ultimately approving of her trip to attend the meeting. They will share in some of the
responsibility associated with Jessica s actions. If an agent or employee commits a tort while
pursuing his or her own interests, the tort is not within the scope of the agency or employment,
and neither the principal nor the employer would be liable. (J., amp; D., 2010) Since this was
not the case with Jessica, liability falls on both parties. There is definite impact of this type of
legal issue to small and large businesses. Company s insurance premiums go up across the board
and typically business will incur large legal fees that need to be paid for. Additionally bad press
coverage could have a negative effect on the company s bottom line. Scenario 2 Larry Johnson

Luckily for the industry with the backing of the government comes a lot of money to perfect the
uses for it. Already states are putting money towards new plants, refurbishing old coal plants
into natural gas plants, and even making upgrades to be able to mix the two products since coal
is still being delivered for the fore seeable future. Already on the road today there are fleets that
utilize the efficiency of natural gas while lowering their carbon footprint, technologies such as
natural gas fueled transportation, houses that can run all appliances more efficiently (i.e.
fireplaces, dryers, stoves, water heaters), and devices to more efficiently extract the energy source

30. Illich s Contributions Of Education In Public Education
Illich has cited three ways to improve the education of the poor despite more costly treatment 1.
Three billion dollars are insufficient to improve the perform ance of six million children by a
measurable amount; or
2. The money was incompetently spent: different curricula, better administration, further
concentration of the funds on the poor child, and more research are needed and would do the trick;
or 3. Educational disadvantage cannot be cured by relying on education within the school.
Illich has questioned our assumptions about schooling and left us with a gateway to start thinking
about our question, Is public education necessary.? A critical thing to mention here is that he made
a distinction between education and schooling. Illich has made a distinction between the two ways
of distributing chances, one is based on certification of passage through a curriculum for a length of
time whereas another is based on demonstration of a particular skill i.e. acquisition of knowledge
and experience. I agree with the Illich s distinction between education and schooling. According to
Illich, education should be an intellectual endeavor to better oneself by obtaining a greater
knowledge base, while schooling, is institutionalized education which deters the mind from relying
on oneself for knowledge and being more dependent upon the system to go further in life. I totally
agree with Illich that schooling does institutionalize education. I think that schooling on the

The black King slayed down the blue knight, which left the blue King the sole member of his
army. As the blue King retreated to the edge of the field, the black king trailed from behind. The
black king halted six feet from his foe. Neither advanced toward the other, for whoever stepped
in the space between them would be slayed down by the other. The Kings paced left and right
down the side of the board. This could have gone on for hours, but Dad and I knew that neither
one of us would move our king forward, so the chessgame ended in a draw. Technically neither one
of us won, but I always counted draws as a win. My dad, who taught me how to play, was great
at chess, so it was near impossible for me to beat him. To be a master at chess you have to have a
great teacher who is patient and skilled , be able to strategize, and, most importantly, enjoy
playing the game. Oddly, I became interested in chess because of my interest in Checkers.
Checkers was a special game between my dad and me. I played Checkers only with my dad, and
that became our game. We would play wherever checkers was set up: at Cracker Barrel or on the
open display at the store. Oddly, we didn t have checkers at home. However, we did have
something more interesting, something my six year old self deeply admired.

pieces were unusual. I admired the pieces because they were unlike any plastic game

Is the Atkins Diet healthy?
The Atkins Diet, also known as a ketogenic diet, promotes a low carbohydrate and high fat content
in an individual s eating habits.1 It was designed in 1972 by Dr. Robert Atkins, and its popularity
derives from the elimination of calorie counting and disregard for consumption restrictions on fat,
protein content, or portion size. 2, 3 The Atkins Diet is divided into four stages(insert 3). The initial
stage dramatically decreases carbohydrate intake to less than 20g per day(insert 3). Subsequently,
every two weeks carbohydrate intake increases; with attendant weight loss being a marker of
successful progression.3 This paper evaluates whether or not the Atkins Diet is healthy, in particular
it narrows the focus on aspects of three body systems: the cardiovascular system, the respiratory
system, and the nervous system.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death,

Hunger is being thankful for the hamburger meal someone cheerfully gave to you. With my
stomach aching for a meal, an individual dressed in modesty spots me out from the busy crowd.
My clothes were covered in muck from laying on the grease smudged concrete from that night;
however, that individual approaches me with charm and politely asked how was my day. I told

More and more women were becoming teachers during this period, and it was continuously

Although this did not include fighting for the reduction of labor hours or the elimination of child

Hull House. Reaching out to women who needed a place to stay, or workers who could not
afford to live in the crowded and unsanitary apartments that usually stuffed several families in one

Hull House was unique in the sense that it held a position in both the public and private spheres of
society. Within the private sphere, women in the Addam?s settlement house ran the household,
raised children, taught about the necessity of morals, and preached about religion. In addition, Hull

they teach a lesson and consist of a moral. Even though they are small in length, they cut to the

fables are lessons that tend to correspond to humans. In fables, animals are depicted with
characteristics that humans have making it easier for the reader to relate to. Fables can be happy

The Babylonian civilization existed from around 3000 BC until 539 BC. The civilization has its
roots to Mesopotamia, a plain between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, which is now in
modern day Iraq. The Babylonians are notoriously famous in their discoveries and inventions, most
of which we still use today. The civilization developed ideas such as astronomy, in which they
created the Saros Cycle, a cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. The Babylonians were also
masters in architecture, constructing buildings like the Hanging Gardens using innovative
techniques including glass covered bricks and adornments of gold and bronze. However, despite
many of these discoveries being forgotten or lost, their advancements in mathematics have been
kept for centuries, and have brought modern ideas of angles, quadratic equations and even
knowledge about the Pythagoras theorem, before Pythagoras himself existed.
One modern day use of mathematics and quadratic equations, created by Babylonians, was the

Slavery was a dividing issue in mid nineteenth century America. The north was the closest slaves
could get to a safe place in America, and it was generally thought that the further south in
America one went the worse the conditions for slaves were. With slavery comes violence and
with violence comes guilt and to rid guilt there was religion. The cases of religion being a
justifier were highlighted in Frederick Douglass s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass,
An American Slave (1845). On the other hand religion is considered a sort of saving grace for
the slave protagonist, Tom, in Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin (1852). Some
Americans at the time saw religion as a reason not to participate in the violence involved in
slavery or even slavery itself while others saw it as the opposite and used it to intensify their
already terrible treatment of slaves. Uncle Tom s Cabin and Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass highlight and describe these contrasting views in a way that moves the reader into
thinking just what the authors want there is no excuse for slavery even if... Show more content on

Although in Frederick Douglass s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American
Slave religion in slaves isn t as prominent compared to Uncle Tom s Cabin there is still some
situations where Douglass either doubts God or receives a small sense of hope from his faith.
Douglass, aware of how terrible slavery really is desperately asks God to save him, but then
questions if there really is a God, his conflicting emotions show just how difficult it is for a slave
to believe and love a God while they are subjected to the hottest hell of unending slavery, (40).
Douglass further shows his conflicting belief in God as he plans to escape and claims God is
helping him. Even in a minimally religious slave God still seems to be able to shine just a bit of
hope down onto those who

49. Invisibility Of Disability
We cannot understand our world without a mediator, and our most important and intimate
mediator is our body. Different bodies and senses reveal different aspects of the world, or create
for the person a very different world than that experienced by someone with other capabilities, but
that difference does not devalue the experience (Harmon 494). It is vital to recognize cultural
context of the way that disabled people experience social society before delving deeper into the
subcategory of that culture that is dance. The article The Invisibility of Disability: Using Dance to
Shake from Bioethics the Idea of Broken Bodies explains its criticisms of the bioethics methods
employed in American medical fields. It is essential to take the

50. Minimum Fuel Drop Rule
It s without a doubt that the feature race at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide was one of the craziest V8
Supercars races to date, however I seem to be one of the few labelling it Crazy rather than a Joke .
So I shall explain why it is not a complete joke.
While their was a lot of confusion over the race start, I will focus on the fuel drop rule instead.
The Facts: During certain races there is a required amount of fuel that must be put into the car
during the race, this is often referred to the as the minimum fuel drop . The rule came about as a
way to combat the engine disparity that was found amongst manufacturers early on in the Car Of
The Future project. For last Sunday s Clipsal 500 feature race that minimum fuel drop was 140
litres. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We kept sacrificing our track position (which was actually very good) to put fuel in knowing the
race was time certain. We could have run in the top 5 all day but that wouldn t have helped the end
result.
JP: Do you think the fuel drop rule should change? If so why?
NP: No I don t think so. The rule is there to give all engine manufactures a even playing field.
JP: Do you think the rule should be scaled so the required fuel drop is in proportion to the actual
race distance?
NP: It should be scaled but at the Clipsal 500 all the teams knew the rule, so if they all took the
approach of getting the fuel in, many of them wouldn t have been penalised.
JP: What did you think when you emerged as the leader in the final phase of the race?
NP: I knew I was leading as we sat in pit lane for the break due to the Lightning, I knew I had a fast
car and just needed to keep it clean. The final lap was amazing. I was taking it all in and enjoying
the battle with Fabian. I wasn t sure if he was right on fuel, I was told he was so I was racing him
hard to make sure I crossed the line first. No way was I winning the race finishing second on

51. Some Legal Case Studies
Legal Case Studies Question One The basic premise of this case has to do with contract law and
how that is applied. Since Australian law follows the principles set down in English contract law
(as is the case with most other English speaking countries), most of the basic legislation differs little
from that basis. However, there have been cases and specific legislation that make Australian
contracts unique. First, it has to be understood what is necessary for a contract to be legal, and then
the determination has to be made whether John and Anton s verbal contract met those
requirements. Australian contract law looks at oral contracts with the same degree of obligation on
the part of the contractors as it does a written contract in most instances. Maritime insurance must be
contracted via a signed agreement as must most contracts where land is exchanged (Fifoot s Law of
Contract). This varies somewhat according to jurisdiction, but most Australian jurisdictions show
no distinction between written and oral contracts. For either type of contract to be legal, it has to
follow the six rules of contract: Agreement where one party makes an offer and the other accepts it;
Consideration where one party gives something in exchange for something from the other party;
Intention where both parties intend to abide by the contract; Capacity where both parties are
mentally capable of understanding the contract; Genuine consent where both parties agree to the
contract of their own

52. Antisemitism and the Gentleman s Agreement
Anti Semitism and the Gentleman s Agreement
Cultural diversity includes opinions, appearances, values, and beliefs, as well as the categories of
race, ethnicity, social class, gender, sexual orientation, and disability (Koppelman, 2011). One
method of understanding cultural diversity is through films. Films are often used as vehicles to
reveal, discuss, and explore relationships, conflicts, lessons, and/or history. In an attempt to
analyze the cultural diversity portrayed in a film, I have chosen to watch and analyze Gentleman s
Agreement . The analysis of the film will take place in four parts: (1) conflict between minority
and majority groups; (2) film s perspective in approach to the problem of anti semitism; (3) ... Show

Wales response was: Of course, you know it will be Yes to the Green and No to the Greenbergs.
This statement serves as the basis for establishing the conflict to be exposed.
In addition to beginning and exacerbating conflicts, labeling can occur informally and formally.
Informal labels are utilized by an individual or group of individuals to establish a means of
identification for another individual or group of individuals. Formal labels are established by
institutions, such as academia and government, as a means to identify an individual or group of
individuals possessing similar characteristics.
A label has the power to define the individual or group of individuals being identified. That power
is equal to control (Koppelman, 2011). Both can have a positive or negative effect. Unfortunately,
the labels used by the majority are meant to have a negative effect. In fact, the labels are meant to
demean and hurt as much as possible. They are so negative that there seems to be the intent to
drive the labeled individual and/or group away, so they are no longer present and able to interact
with the majority.
Within the context of the movie, the minority group referred to themselves as Jewish or Jews. When
used to describe one s self, I believe that the intent was to refer to one s ethnicity, nationality, and/or
religion, because they are strongly interrelated. Typically, the majority group labels itself in a way
that clearly indicates

53. Dysfunctional Family Dynamics And The Integral Value Of...
Examples of dysfunctional families can be seen everywhere in society on television, in movies, in
music, and of course, in literature. Many books have recently been published that include complex,
conflicted families. The purpose of using dysfunctional families in popular literature is to make the
story more relatable, show different views on the traditional familydynamic, and to spark interest
with readers. These three intentions are shown in both George RR. Martin s Game of Thrones
and Alice Munro s Who Do You Think You Are?. Both works contain complex characters that
illustrate abnormal family dynamics and the integral value of dysfunctional families in
literature. This idea of dysfunction among families can be seen in the Lannister and Stark
families in Game Of Thrones and Rose s immediate family and her husband in Who Do You
Think You Are?. The Lannister family in George RR. Martin s Game Of Thrones are one of the
most powerful and rich families in the series. They are a prosperous dynasty and live the lives of
kings and queens. However, they are also one of the most dysfunctional families in all of
literature. The lives of the Lannister family are filled with incest, betrayal, murder and
destruction. The Stark family are yet another example of dysfunction in a family structure seen in
Game Of Thrones. Rose s family in Alice Munro s Who Do You Think You Are? are the cause of
her having a very sad childhood. She resides with her father, his second wife named Flo and

on 3/28/2017 He said Gunner called him names and he called him a name back. I told Gage to
go to the office so I could talk with him. Gage reported that he did not say anything to Gunner all
day and that he did not try to stab him with a pencil. He then spoke with Ms. Snider. They talked
about this incident as well as his grades. After checking into the incident, there was no evidence to
support what Gunner was saying. No student saw the incident and no teacher reported it to me.

56. Biological Approach To Abnormal Psychology
Psychology, as a field, works to understand the complex inner workings of the mind, and to make
sense of why people behave the way they do. The use of psychology helps individuals gain a
stronger comprehension of themselves and others. Abnormal psychology is a sect that puts a
specific focus on individuals who exhibit rare behavior. The study of abnormal psychology
examines why people exhibit such behavior by using specific models as a base for understanding.
Abnormal psychology is the study of individuals who are abnormal in relation to other members of
society. Abnormal behavior can be determined using statistics; this means that someone who
exhibits behavior that is statistically rare, would be considered to be exhibiting abnormal behavior.

This approach examines the underlying causes, which include: genetics, physical illnesses,
chemical imbalances, and infections (Cherry, 2017). An example of an abnormal behavior that is
caused by biological factors is schizophrenia; elevated levels of dopamine create the symptoms
associated with schizophrenia (McLeod, 2014).
The behavioral approach, on the other hand, understand abnormal behavior through the
observation of life circumstances and experiences. According to the behavioral approach, since
all behavior is learned it can also be unlearned. An example of a learned behavior is phobias
which typically develop as a result of exposure in the past to something that caused anxiety or fear
(McLeod, 2014). This approach aims to change abnormal behavior through use of strategies like
classical and operant conditioning (Cherry, 2017).
The cognitive approach focuses on how thoughts, perceptions, and reasoning influence abnormal
behavior (Cherry, 2017). As opposed to the behavioral approach, the cognitive approach suggests
that abnormalities arise as a result of the way one perceives events, rather than the events
themselves. The goal of the cognitive approach is to change actual thought processes and
cognitions in order to overcome abnormalities (McLeod,

57. John Fitzgerald Kennedy
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, served as president
from January 20th, 1961 to November 22nd, 1963, the day of his death and the day after the
assassination attempt by Lee Harvey Oswald. Mr. Kennedy was arguably most famous for his
role in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where he, as president, made the decision to find more
peaceful resolutions to the threats associated with a Castro led Cubapossessing nuclear weapons
rather than using the violent courses of actions suggested by the other members of the Executive
Committee of the National Security Council, or EXCOMM. During the Cuban Missile Crisisof
1962, John F. Kennedyaverted a nuclear war between the two superpowers, avoided another

Although John Kennedy managed to achieve this great feat against communism, he did
overstep some of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and
coastlines, and it could have easily started a full scale war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. If
a Soviet vessel had refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one
of the many nearby American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by
American sailors ( 32 ). The chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to
Premier Khrushchev ordering an immediate return of all Soviet Navy ships headed to Cuba.
The blockade was not to be removed until all Soviet missiles were removed from the Cuban island (
CAPITAL HOPEFUL: Plans to End Blockade as Soon as Moscow Lives Up to Vow. ). Kennedy s
standing up against the USSR showed the American people just how capable and strong leader
was. Because of this, he is often considered to be one of the most highly regarded presidents of all

What is Turnitin?
Turnitin is the software that AA Hamilton College uses to calculate the similarity of your
assignment to any other document submitted in the same system all over the world.
What happens when you submit an assignment on Turnitin?
You submit your assignment on Turnitin by submitting it on Livecampus on the assignment
submission link. Your assignment is then compared with all of the assignments for all the different
units submitted on Livecampus as well as assignments submitted by other students in other colleges
and books and documents all over the world. The report generated is not the final report. The final
report will only be generated after the final deadline which would mean that once the submission
link closes and once every student submitted assignments at AA Hamilton for the specific unit,
only then the final report will be generated. This means that if you have shared your assignment
with anybody and they have submitted part of it or the full assignment the initial report your friend
got would ve indicated the similarity, but your report would ve remained unchanged. This is
because the report is refreshed every time that you upload your assignment and then finally after
the deadline. After the deadline their plagiarism will be high as well as your own.
What can you do to avoid getting a high Turnitin score?
