This document explores the concept of 'born virtuals,' organizations created to operate within virtual worlds, using the case study of Peace Train, a non-profit organization in Second Life that promotes peace. It investigates the challenges avapreneurs face in achieving successful outcomes and how collective competence can be developed among geographically dispersed teams. The Peace Train's significant fundraising event, Peacefest 08, attracted thousands of avatars globally and highlights the potential of virtual worlds for economic and social organizing.
