Building Design of the Engineering and Computing Builiding...
Introduction
As an aspiring Architectural Technologist I will be expected to possess a variety of skills which are
valuable for any Architectural Technologist position. I will be studying and evaluating a building
design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure,
identifying, why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes.
This will allow me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design.
1.1Design philosophy and aesthetics
The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates and built by
main contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates were trying to create a
sustainable postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a
landmark in the centre of the city. Designed to meet the university s long term needs in terms of
improving the student learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself.
The 15,000mВІ building is enclosed in a square, split into two L shaped blocks. Linked together by
a glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner.
The L block facing the south and west has been configured as the Nature block. This four storey
Nature wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to
encourage the local wildlife. Well known to attract insects that pipistrelle bats are known to prefer.

The Drilling Of Fshore Drilling Industry
The offshore drilling industry can be split into 5 key markets: upgrade market, contract drilling
market, second hand market, scrap market and contract drilling market. Among them contract
drilling market is most important, because it ensures smooth cash flow between markets. drilling
units is summarised in the table below.
The table above describes cash flow within offshore drilling markets. Contract drilling market
leases drilling units to O G companies to drill or service wells, in turn they receive day rates.
The day rate is the daily price to lease a rig and includes the use of the rig and its crew but does
not include most of the other costs associated with drilling and completing a well (e.g., casing,
drilling fluids, logistics, well evaluation, etc.). The drilling service industry is the largest and most
closely followed of the five markets and drives the activities of investors in the other markets.
The new build market uses shipyard labour and capital to convert steel and third party equipment
into rigs. Drilling contractors enter into turnkey contracts with shipyards for the construction and
delivery of one or more rigs, or yards may build on speculation. The new build market is primarily
Asian with major shipyards in Singapore, South Korea, and China.
The upgrade market is a ship repair market which both upgrades and maintains rigs. Upgrades
improve and modernize rig technology and represent significant capital expenditures.
In the second hand market, rigs are

Malice Murder Case
The role of malice in determining the level of criminal homicide will have to do with if there was
or was not malice aforethought involved with the criminal homicide. Because malice distinguished
murder and manslaughter, it was imperative for the courts to define that term. Framers of the
Model Penal Code considered malice to be so ill defined, that they abandoned the concept altogether
in distinguishing between murderand manslaughter (Brody and Acker, 2010).
So let us say there are rival gangs and one gang decides to retaliate against the other gang. It is
decided the one gang will go to the hangout of the other gang and shoot members of that gang.
However, in the chaos, a young girl that is an innocent bystander accidentally gets shot and

Figurative Language In Edwidge Danticat s Ghosts
Edwidge Danticat is the author of a haitian short story titled Ghosts . This story is a fictional
story which focuses on the real life problems going on in Haiti. Pascal the main character is
mainly focused on his family business and how they interact with gangs in Haiti and how they
interacted with them due to their surroundings. Pascal lived in a place where there was a lot of
crime and people were always getting kidnapped. The author who is Haitian feels disturbed about
what is going on in her surroundings because, it affects a great amount of the population. In the
story Danticat uses cultural context to grab the author s attention and make sure that the reader
gets the message. In the story they focus on how many young people are involved in gangs and
the drug business. In the story the author talks about how much effort Pascal s parent was doing so
that their son couldn t end up in the gangs surrounding them They had a slightly larger yard than

Piaget s Theory On Cognitive Development
This essay seeks to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of Piaget s theory on cognitive
development. It will focus on Piaget s work highlighting positive attributes and how they re being
applied in modern day and also delve on key limitations of the theory. Piaget was a Swiss
psychologist who was interested on why children would give similar but wrong answers in an
intelligence test (Vidal, 1994). Based on his observations, he concluded that children undergo
sequential cognitive development patterns which occur in defined stages in which the child has to
follow in succession (Martin, Carlson Buskist, 2013). Consequently, we will focus on the cognitive
abilities of a child in relation to socio cultural influence and research methodology that Piaget used.
Piaget s work has been appreciated in the education sector over the years. Education remains the
key pillar for any societal growth and it s very important to identify how best knowledge can be
passed to younger generations in a way that they can understand. Martin (2013) highlights that their
exists four unique stages of cognitive development exist with each stage bearing its unique
characteristics, thus teachers are able to develop curriculum that corresponds to the child s
cognitive ability. More importantly, teachers can establish how best to assimilate knowledge, for
example children in the sensorimotor group will learn explicitly faster through activities that
involve their senses and motor movements. Saettler

Hawaiian Island Research Paper
The earliest people believed to come to the Hawaiian Islands were Polynesians from the
Marquesas and they came between 500 and 750 A.D. Later, in 1000 A. D., the Tahiti came. The
Tahiti brought over the belief in gods and social hierarchy, resulting in the hawaiian people
following a Kapu system. In `1778, James cook, the first westerner to reach the Hawaiian Islands,
paved the way for other explorers to come. James cook name the Islands the Sandwich Islands so

New Zealand And India Trade Agreement Essay
INTRODUCTION:
New Zealand and India are big market economies with voracious need to expand. They are trying to
expand and strengthen their foundation in International market and maximize the benefits from it.
They are promoting the competitiveness and sustainable development of their economies and
welfare and prosperity of their people eventually improving their positions in global economy.
Efforts are being put in by both these countries at multilateral and regional levels to promote trade
and economic liberalization on their economic and political relationship. In the year 2007, the
government foreign officials of both these countries agreed to negotiate a Free TradeAgreement
(FTA)/.
New Zealand and India share a positive and longstanding bilateral relationship. Despite strong
growth in the past, the bilateral trade and economic relationship is currently under potential. Both
the economies are complimentary to each other and there is a considerable potential to increase the
economic relations and bilateral trade. Once the FTA effectively addresses the current barriers to
trade and tariffs then there should be considerable improvement in the trade relationship for both
the countries.

Bartolome de Las Casas Book Review
An Account much abbreviated of the destruction of the Indies, Indianapolis, IN, Hackett Publishing
Company INC., 2003
Bartolme De Las Casas is an interesting character. His passion for people who at the time were
seen as a sub species of humans (if even human at all) is remarkable. De Las Casas came from a
modest family and was well educated. He was brought into the world of the America s through his
father Pedro De Las Casas who was an encomiendo himself. His travels through the New World
prior to 1510 when he became an ordained priest shaped his crusade to defend the Natives.
There are many clues in this book which point to the exaggeration of its content. For instance at
one point De Las Casas goes as far as to say that 12 million ... Show more content on

De Las Casas did affect King Charles the 5th and in 1542 after reading Brevisima Relacion he
quickly created the New Laws which conveniently put an end to some of the rights of the
encomienda which the monarch felt gave too much power to Spanish land owners in the Americas.
De Las Casas gave the King the perfect excuse to take power back from the encomiendos
justifying it with Christianity which the Spanish monarchs were responsible to uphold. The
political system of the time and its relation to the Catholic Church makes every situation
involving members of the clergy to have political repercussions. The royals used De Las Casas
to take power back for them selves; De Las Casas used his political leverage and the crowns
responsibility to protect the values of Christianity to aid his cause. While it is clear what the
monarchs gain from De Las Casas was, De Las Casas passion to help the Indians seems purely
genuine to me. Although at times reading the book I became frustrated and bored (even while I
read such brutal details and events) I understand the need for the exaggerations and over done
dramatics. Even though it is not 100% true that De Las Casas witnessed all the horrible events that
he described it is true that they did occur. The means justifies the end in this case and the need for
attention at this time to the terrible treatment of the Natives was worth the repetitive and at times

The Causes Of Al Qaeda And The Attack Of September 11
On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by terrorist group name Al Qaeda, they
hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four
planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last
plane did not make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack
on September 11th could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as
severe. Certain things like lack of government communication, not very thorough background
checks on middle eastern immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks
impacted the severity of the situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government
did not communicate effectively, so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event
police had been invigilating possible acts of terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui,
with all of his information on his computer. Police applied for a search warrant to search through
Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he was accused of being involved in the attack
on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s
attack important details were not passed on to the needed government agency. When the first plane
crashed into Tower 1 of the World Trade Center everyone thought that a small commuter plane a
lost control and crashed. When the first Twin Tower was hit police, fire, and

An Ideal Husband, Oscar Wilde
An Ideal Husband, Oscar Wilde Lord Goring and Lady Chiltern
Discuss how Wilde influences the audience to like or dislike characters In my paper, I will discuss
two entirely different people, both of whom have entirely different personalities but are both the
characters in the play, An Ideal husbandLord Goring and Mrs. Chiltern. I will also mention the
reasons and ways in which Oscar Wilde has managed to make them liked and disliked by the
audience.
Lord Goring
Background info: The beginning of the play is set at Mrs. Chiltern s home. She is conducting a
party and has invited many guests, including all of the main characters in the play, Lord Goring.

For example: I am not a pessimist. Indeed, I am not quite sure that
I quite know what Pessimism means. Responses are also never what the audience expects them to
be. For example in Act 1, page 21, when Lord
Goring is speaking to Mabel: Have you missed me? Then I am sorry I didn t stay away longer. I
liked being missed.
When some tension is in the play, at the end of Act 1 when Robert realizes he is being
blackmailed, Lord Goring relieves the tension with his immediate presence at the beginning of Act
2, signaling some hope for Robert Chiltern.
Later, on in the play, when Lord Goring is informed by Robert Chiltern of Robert s dark past, (he
sold a cabinet several years ago and is now blackmailed by Mrs. Chevelry) his personality changes
into becoming serious. By doing this, Oscar Wilde influences the audience to like
Lord Goring because although he a comical laid back person, when his friend is in trouble, he will
change his character to become what his friend needs, some one serious who understands.
However, the main reason why Lord Goring is still liked although he has turned serious is because
this fact is greatly overshadowed by the fact that the change in personality is due to him being a
loyal friend and attempting to help solve Robert Chiltern s problem. Even, when
Lord Goring makes the

Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance Essay
Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance
Anne Hutchinson, on trial for apparently nothing more than leading religious discussions at her
house, is subjected to belittlement and unclear, if not unfounded, accusations in The Examination
of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson at the Court at Newton. The trial, which took place in 1637, set a
standard for the future treatment of women, and subsequently their speech and writing. Because of
the way the prosecution pigeonholes Hutchinson into admitting her guilt, the reverends (and thus
men) gain (or keep) power over women the power to control their women and to interpret contrived
meanings from their words.
From the start of the proceedings, it is clear that Hutchinson s only crime is ... Show more content

Though she has broken a commandment in the court s eyes, there are countless ways to dishonor
the parents without breaking the law. By bearing false witness against Hutchinson, Winthrop is
breaking a commandment (and in so doing, dishonoring his parents). Hutchinson is only asking for
a clear explanation of the charges against her, but is never given a satisfactory answer. During the
questioning, Hutchinson is quick with her answers, but her evident logic is not enough to keep the
court from modifying its arguments:
Mrs. H. I think I may. Do you think it not lawful for me to teach women and why do you call me
to teach the court? Gov. We do not call you to teach the court but to lay open yourself. Mrs. H. I
desire you that you would set me down a rule by which I may put them away that come unto me
and so have peace in so doing. Gov. You must shew your rule to receive them. Mrs. H. I have done
it. Gov. I deny it because I have brought more arguments than you have (315). The court calls for
Hutchinson to lay herself open, but she has clearly already done so. When Winthrop argues that his
argument has more weight than hers because of quantity, he has done nothing but condemn
himself. She has to say less to defend herself because she has done no wrong; the prosecution has
wrought more accusations because none have

The Existence of Racism Essay
The Existence of Racism
Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems,
but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a
myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define (de Benoist, 1999, p. 11). Although the term
wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud
hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Before delving into the complex
concept of racism, it is recommended that the student who is writing on this topic first consider the
notion of race, which has been described as a group of people with the same physical ... Show more

296). There is also the notion of genetic inheritance, which subjectively implies that some groups
are superior to others (Vorster, 1999). This argument is rooted in belief that some groups sport a
more impressive biological pedigree than others and are therefore better than other groups from
the moment of birth. Finally, there is the idea that suggests that group diversity is forged through
social behavior (Vorster, 1999). In other words, some groups simply have greater physical or
intellectual capacities than others, which allow them to be easily categorized on the basis of
superiority and inferiority (Vorster, 1999). Interestingly, these ideas seem to transcend all cultural
barriers, which is why racism is prevalent in both primitive as well as civilized societies.
There are three major factors which need to be considered in order to provide a sufficient
overview of racism that lends itself to further, more detailed analysis. First, there is the ideology
mentioned earlier, the significance of which cannot be underestimated (Vorster, 2002). In fact, back
in 1978, UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] issued a
Declaration of Race, which defined racism as,

consumer may not have the patience to resolve an issue or send an inquiry if it s not almost
instantly responded to. That s one important aspect of social media channels, the almost
simultaneous interaction and sense of being heard immediately. One may argue that they don t
need any social media presence since they ve been doing well so far but with the growing
number of consumers using social media channels, I would advise them to start at least two
channels. I feel that a Twitter and Facebook channel would be the best places to start. They would
be able to target a wide array of audiences through these channels. To start, they could link their
Facebook and Twitter accounts allowing them to post on one site and have it be seen on the other.
Gradually they could start crafting Twitter specific tweets and unlink their Facebook and Twitter
channels. They already release an e newsletter and I feel that the language, recipes, products, etc.

Operating Lease And Finance Lease
Introduction
What is accounting? Accounting is to saving, arranging, plus storing, sorting, retrieving,
summarizing, and presenting the information in various reports and analyses and also records the
financial transactions. Accounting also focus on preparing a transparent and general purpose form
of financial statement to people outside of the company (What is accounting?), so that the public
could easily understand the financial status of a company, but as a new specific accounting
standard released the regulations about leasing, things are getting unclear.
In this paper I am going to discuss about what are the definition of both operating lease and finance
lease, and mainly focus on operating lease due to the majority of companies using this standard.
Then find out what makes companies tend to choose the certain leasing standard and also to
discover the relationship between them. After that I will discuss how this could affect the investors
decision, also to discover the benefit that the lessee and lessor might have from the leasing standard.
After find out the problem and why it occurred, I will discuss how this issue could be solved and try
to find out the solution through the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
What is the problem?
In 2005, IAS 17 was adopted in Australia by Australian Accounting Standard Board (AASB) as
AASB 117 (AASB, 2004). There are two types of leases in AASB 117, finance lease and operating

its positions. The Bureau employs thirty employees. Of these thirty employees, only eleven are
considered full time and permanent. The core positions at the BBB, which include dispute

employees that are not full time. The disadvantages of relying so heavily on these types of
workers in significant positions are impactful on internal operations. First, part time and temporary
workers have high attrition rates. These workers are more apt to leaving their present employment

Male Underachievment Ia
Introduction. Male Underachievement continues to be a major part of academics, not only in the
Caribbean but worldwide. It has been heavily encouraged through negative stereotypes as well as
media. For example in some television series, the protagonist is shown as being too cool for school
and in some cases has failing grades. The problem of maleunderachievement is becoming more
prevalent within our society today, and can be seen as result due to a vichyssoise of problems
such as peer pressure, negative portrayal by the media and lack of proper upbringing in homes.
This problem continues to be detrimental to our society, not only in terms of the short term but also
in the long run. The best solution for the lack of performance in... Show more content on

Therefore we can see that in Trinidad the marginalization of the father figure role is leading to not
only an increase in male underachievement but also eventually an increase in other social problems
such as crime.
Singh S. (2007) sees underachievement as occurring even at higher levels of education. For instance
she has noted that females have yet again outshone males with 65 percent of the first degrees and
63 percent of higher degrees being secured by females. This presents a worrying situation as it
means that there would be less men who are educated and employable within the country, what this
could lead to is an eventual labour vacuum, due to the inability to fill positions. This she argues is
based mainly on cultural factors, which must be addressed. If this is not done, the performance of
males may continue to spiral downwards leading to disastrous results.

A Fetal Organ That Is Vital For The Growth Of The Fetus...
Project Background (500 words) The placenta is a fetal organ that is vital for the growth of the
fetus during pregnancy. Abnormalities in placental development can result in pregnancy
complications such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and pre eclampsia (PE), which
affect one in ten pregnancies in New Zealand. IUGR occurs in 3 5% of all pregnancies, and is
associated with an assortment of increased risks of its own, such as hypoglycaemia,
hypothermia, developmental delays and increased risk of infection. Despite its prevalence, we
currently have no effective treatment for IUGR other than close monitoring and premature
delivery of the baby. Worldwide, 10% of neonatal mortality can be put down to prematurity, but
the risks do not stop there respiratory problems, feeding difficulties, and neurological problems
also increase in incidence as gestational age at delivery decreases. Furthermore, IUGR babies are
at an increased risk of cardiovascular problems, obesity and type II diabetes in adulthood,
diseases which the health system is currently plagued with. Together, these issues place a
considerable burden on healthcare providers in both the short and long term to the cost of up to
$300 000 NZD per child, along with an intangible cost to the families of the children. However,
despite the significance of this problem, our knowledge of the pathophysiology leading to IUGR is

Persuasive Essay On Weightlifting Vs Powerlifting
Anthony Scionti
Powerlifting Vs. Weightlifting
There are many debates about weather powerlifting or weightlifting is better for athletic training. In
my opinion I think that in order to reach max performance you must use both powerlifting and
weightlifting. Powerlifting has a bigger risk because you use more weight but it is risky either way.
Weightlifting helps prevent injury and is used in almost every sport.
The most important aspect of training is absolute strength because it controls all strength gains. We
can assume that the most important aspect of athletic development should be focused on the
training of absolute strength, which is rooted with powerlifting. Powerlifting methods make the
training of absolute strength a priority.
The better approach in the training of athletes is a mix of both powerlifting and weightlifting in my

Cobain And Nirvana
Kurt Cobain and Nirvana Nirvana was a band started by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in the
early 90 s. They d released several albums before April 5, 1994, when Kurt Cobain supposedly took
his own life. Nirvana was very popular during its time, but of course, Kurt had a life before he met
Krist and before Nirvanawas born. There was also a lot the band had done together before the date
of April 5, when Nirvana had to end. Kurt Cobain did a lot before he started Nirvana. As a child,
Kurt Cobain loved art and music. He showed talent in both areas. He taught himself to play piano
and he played guitar, also little league baseball. (Kurt Cobain biography.com) Also said by
Rolling Stone, He came from a musical family. . . At four, Cobain began singing and playing
piano, and gravitated to the music of bands ranging from the Beatles to the Ramones. When Kurt
was fourteen, he got his first guitar and learned to play. He dropped out of high school his senior

Nirvana was ended on April 5, 1994, when Kurt Cobain allegedly took his own life. On April 8,
Cobain s body was found with a gunshot wound in his head. Not everybody believes it was
suicide though, some believe Courtney Love, his own wife, hired someone to kill him for her,
and made it look as if it were a suicide. Although it does not matter now. Unfortunately Nirvana is
no longer a band and there is no way to undo that, but the former members of Nirvana went on
and continued making music, it was Nirvana s passion. Thankfully, Cobain s music is still
remembered and loved, and it will be remembered and loved from the time it was number one.
Kurt Cobain left a his legacy behind, and he left a massive handprint on his era of music. An era of

Shakespeare And 130 And Sonnet 130 Comparison
Using the technique of comparison, William Shakespeare describes how deep his love is for his
significant other in both Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130. Shakespeare takes an unconventional approach
by utilizing compare and contrast to make his point. Although he writes the sonnets differently, the
moral theme happens to be the same. The two sonnets begin in total opposite tones but conclude the
same. Shakespeare proves that the same underlying theme can be proved by using different poetic
styles and techniques, such as rhyme scheme or comparisons, thus leads to the comparison and
contrast between Sonnet18 and Sonnet 130. In Sonnet 130, William Shakespeare inadvertently uses
blazon, a popular form of poetryduring the sixteenth century, to give a detailed summary of his
beloved s physical features in a negative manner. A typical blazon would describe a female s
body from head to toe. It allowed writers to project an idealized woman whose features could be
admired from afar. In the first four lines, Sonnet 130 slowly reveals the conflicting image. The
first line begins as a stereotypical love poem, but by the conclusion of the second line, the intent of
the poem is unclear. The poem is shocking because instead of using common love poetry
techniques, Shakespeare suggests that the woman he is portraying is unattractive and more
beautiful things exist, for example, coral is redder than her lips. (Shakespeare, Sonnet 130) The
poem continues in this same manner throughout, until line 12. Here Shakespeare sets a tone of
criticism. Ironically, he still uses stereotypical love images such as perfume, roses and music to
compare his love.
The other method used by Shakespeare in Sonnet 130 is the element of surprise. Throughout the
poem, he states a beautiful characteristic then shortly follows up with the diminishing of his
significant other, almost giving no meaning to the characteristic previously stated. In An Overview
of Sonnet 130, Joanne Woolway states, Roses are the stuff of love poetry, but the positivity of line
5 is quickly destroyed by line 6 which negatively affects the praise that the previous line had hinted.
The timing is perfect; the surprise that is given from this non comparison is far

Four kids, each under the age of 18 were sentenced as adults for 6 11 years in prison before DNA
evidence proved them all innocent. You all probably remember Trayvon Martin, who was
walking home, pursued by a neighborhood watch captain for having a suspicious appearance,
and then fatally shot. You might know of Philando Castile, who was pulled over for a broken tail

Minimum sentencing combined with the war on drugs brought a scythe through the black
communities, literally cutting off men from their families, huge chunks just disappearing into the
prison systems for really long times. We re not only talking about fathers. We re talking about
fathers being put away with their sons with their brothers and with their cousins. So many
broken families. 72% of African Americans have or are being raised by a single parent. So who
is their positive role model? It s not their mother, she s away all day working double shifts. Its not
their father, he s in prison. It s not their teachers, not only are they white but they are also teaching
in impersonal over crowded schools. Suddenly African Americankids start looking up to
gangbangers who have nice cars, and nice clothes. This is why one in three African Americans
born in 2001 can expect to go to prison in their lifetime.
The odds are overwhelmingly stacked against African Americans. And because of this they feel a
sense of hopelessness for the future. As if there is nothing they could do to rise out of their realities.
And to a certain extent, this is true. Think about redlining. Think about the inequality in the
workplace. Think about unfair voting ratios between black and whites, diminishing the black voice.
Now combine this and the fact that African American

The meeting should be clear and brief as to what the process will be during and after the
termination. Although the dismissal meeting is not a time for a lengthy discussion of how things
might have been different (Stewart, Greg L, 2011, p. 277), the employee should be allowed to
speak and/or vent regarding the situation. During the meeting, the employee should be presented
with a written summary of the meeting as well as information regarding the severance

Zara Global Chain Essay
Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer
driven global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy,
product design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results.
Zara was the largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on
account being a better established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara
played the lead role in increasing the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international
operations and it continued to be the principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected
slight drop in the share of the group s total sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic
capability, core competences and assets routines and values criteria, predominantly on resource
based view. The resource based view can be described as the competitive advantage of an
organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities (Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005).
In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as internally heterogeneous and possess
exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010). Furthermore, the resource based
view emphasizes the internal capabilities of the organization in formulation strategy to achieve a
sustainable competitive advantage in its markets and industries (Henry, 2011). Strategic Capability

The Tyger Poem Figurative Language
Why did God create both gentle and fearful creatures? Why did God create a world with
bloodshed, pain and terror? The Tyger by William Blake, written in 1794 and included in his
collection Songs of Innocence and Experience , takes readers on a journey of faith. Through a
cycle of unanswered questions, William Blake motivates the readers to question God. Blake sees a
necessity for balance in the world, and suggests to the readers that God created a world with a
balance of good and evilso that humanity can see goodness more clearly through contrast and
comparison. This theme is achieved through the poem s imagery, figurative language, and structure.

The tiger was born in distant deeps or skies (787), implying that the tiger was created with the
creator s consciousness and fantasy. The verbs: twist , seize , and burnt all foreground the power
and strength of the creator. Through these lines: And what shoulder, and what art,/Could twist the
sinews of thy heart? (787), Blake demonstrates the creator s capability. Originally, sinews is
defined as the very tendon that enables the heart to beat. Blake uses sinews here as a metaphor for
strength, power, and life. Thus, to twist the sinews requires physical prowess. Blake seems to be
suggesting that the creator of the tiger is not only strong; but also, the creator believes in his own
strength and vision. The word shoulders represents responsibilities and burden; therefore the term
implies the risk the creator had to take for creating such a fearful creature.
Through these lines: What the hammer? what the chain?/In what furnace was thy brain?/What
the anvil? what dread grasp/Dare its deadly terrors clasp? (788) a vivid picture of the forging
process is presented in front of the readers. And the image of a powerful, courageous, and artistic
creator of the tiger deepens. It leads the readers to speculate who the creator could be if not God.

Inner Cities And Its Impact On Society Essay
America has had an extensive relationship with her inner cities. Inner cities were and are the
backbone to America and her achievements. The cities assisted in the mass production of the
automobile industry, the destruction of the tyranny known as the Nazi Empire, and are the center
piece for businesses today. The inner cities had a reduction in employment during the 2008
financial crisis, leaving the cities and their inhabitants in shambles. This not only affected jobs and
parents, but the children as well. This was unfortunate because the cities that built America were
now spilt into two parts. One part became an area of bustling traffic and lively people, the other
underprivileged individuals with no source of income due to financial collapse of their places of
employment. Inner citychildren face an abundant number of obstacles in their lives being raised in
these low income areas. These areas have become povertystricken and are being ignored by the
government. Without assistance, whether from the state or the federal level of government, certain
factors of their lives are being neglected. Some of the factors that are detrimental to the children are
the inadequate educational programs, lack of attendance at school, and parent involvement, lack of
availability of nutritional produce and a higher rate of exposure to crime.
The children in inner cities are demonstrating issues with attendance this is detrimental to success

Uncontrolled Profanity Study
Uncontrolled profanity is found in many neurolinguistics disorders, the most famous is Gilles de la

1800s, is a hyperkinetic motor speech disorder characterized by frequent involuntary tics, which are
sudden pattern like movements or sounds. Though it is lesser known than Tourette syndrome,
aphasiacan also heavily feature profanity. Aphasia is a clinical language impairment resulting from

In fact, through childhood and adolescent trial and error they tested words to see where the line
of appropriateness is drawn in certain social circles. Neuroscientists from Weill Medical College
of Cornell University explored the brain to understand how profanity reverberates inside the
complex wiring of humans minds using the neuroimaging technique PET (positron emission
tomography) scans. By 1999, they found the amygdala, which is responsible for processing
emotion and memory, was highly active when exposed to profanity, But because the amygdala is
also connected to the memory function part of the brain, duplication decreases the activity. If a
child grew up hearing people saying curse words around their friends, the possibility of curse
words shocking you in other social circles lowers. In particular, amygdala activity is correlated
with negative emotional associations. Stimulating the amygdala can cause panic attacks and
aggressive behaviors while destroying the amygdala causes unusual placidness or fearlessness
Therefore; it makes sense that the amygdala would be activated in association with unpleasant

During the 1950 s African Americans were technically equal in the eyes of the law, but not to
most of the southern citizens. Segregation was a time of division between whites and African
Americans in regards to bathrooms, public amenities, schools etc. t all of the country was like this,
the occupants ofnorthern America were open and not as racist towards African Americans. In
1955, African Americans obligated by Montgomery, Alabama, city ordinance to sit in the back

Constitution. The 14th amendment guarantees all citizens, regardless of race, equal rights and
equal protection under state and federal laws. The city appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court,
which upheld the lower court s decision on December 20, 1956. Montgomery s buses were
integrated on December 21, 1956, and the boycott ended. It had lasted 381 days. Even though in
the eyes of the law the buses were integrated and the issue had been dealt with, African
Americans still had to go through adversity and resistance from white people that usually
resulted in violence. While the busses were integrated the people of Montgomery, Alabama
figured out a new way to discriminate against African Americans, they retaliated with integrated
bus stops and even violence. Occasionally snipers were paid to fire into public busses at African
Americans in order to kill them and send a message. In January 1957, four black churches and the
homes of prominent black leaders were bombed; a bomb at King s house was defuseq. On January
30, 1957, the Montgomery police arrested seven bombers; all were members of the Ku Klux Klan,
a white supremacist group. The arrests largely brought an end to the busing related violence. The
Montgomery Bus Boycott was a very important and vital part in the civil rights movement for many
reasons. First, it was the one of the first mass protests on civil rights in the U.S. The Montgomery
bus boycott set the stage for other large protests outside the court system to bring fair treatment for
African Americans. Second, Martin Luther King came up as a prominent national leader of the
civil rights movement while also.keeping true to his commitment to nonviolent protest. Shortly

Another purpose to having a partnership is that with partners, your business will have a greater
financial source to allow funds for the business start up costs and debts. Essentially, not all the
payments are going to you, but to all the partners involved.
However, there are disadvantages of having a partnership structure for a business. The biggest
problem of a partnership is the decision making that is involved during a meeting. Most of the
times, partners disagrees with each other and will ultimately lead to arguments and personal
conflict. Additionally, when a partner makes a mistake and creates a problem for the business,
each partner is involved with all the debts and liabilities. This is a disadvantage for you and the
partners because you have to pay for a mistake a partner did and it could be at any value.
Creating the Business
The main reason for establishing my bar and restaurant business is because I will be earning a
large income if my business does become successful. From then on, I will be able to expand and

The Invention Of The Technology
Introduction Brief introduction into the topic In evolutionary terms, advancements in technology
are the utmost fundamental events to have occurred in human history. Rapid growths in technology
are extremely beneficial to our species. These growths include, however, not limited to: the
invention of fire, invention of electricity, invention of cars and planes, and the invention of inter
networking (The Internet). The intention of the simplifying of life lead dramatically reduced the
stress on human life. It enhanced life. The invention of fire opened up gateways to cooking, lighting
and creation. The invention of electricity introduced the invention of the light bulb and batteries.
The invention of cars and planes made traveling easier. Finally, the invention of the internet made
retrieving information more accessible. All these inventions had one common intention. To make
life easier, and it succeeded. Furthermore, exponential growth is expected from the growth and
development of this technology. However, batteries, technology based on an outdated principle that
hasn t seen exponential growth yet. In fact, batteries are limiting the progression of society more
than the average person suspects. According to Moore s law which states that computational
intricacy should grow exponentially every two years, batteries fall behind. Battery technology is
estimated to increase by 7% each year (Rabaey, 2009). In the book, Low Power Design Essentials,

Easter Island Essay
Easter Island was once a haven for its inhabitants. It provided them with all of their needs, food,
shelter, tools, and even the ability to create great works of art. They abused this Eden, and turned it
into a disaster, with almost no natural resources. This could very well happen to us, because our
earth is the same Eden that Easter Island once was.
The people of Easter Island came over to their new land, and recognized that it was ideal for
them to settle. The land was lush; the sea was providing a bounty of fresh fish, and other seafood.
The earth was dark brown, and very rich. Everything was just the way it needed to be to support a
growing community of people.
They began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soil was losing its great growing powers, because of over cultivation. There were hardly as
many seabirds as could be remembered in recent years. Slowly but surely, their way of life was
dwindling, like a slowing dying flame. They couldn t directly see their end, but it was near. When
their major population finally did go, it went out with a whimper. Slowly and quietly they went the
way of their beloved fern trees. With the loss of all of the necessary items to sustain their eco
system, such as the fern, the trees, which they used to make rope, the birds they used, hunt. All
gone now, because they could not replenish them selves in a quickly enough time to meet the needs
of the people.
This should act as a rude awakening to us. The planet could be considered a large Easter Island.
We have a potentially non sustainable eco system. If we are not careful, we could go the same way
as the inhabitants of the island. It is possible for us to use up everything so there is nothing left
for our children to use. If we look at our progression over the last 300 years that we have inhabited
North America, we will notice that we have removed many natural resources. Trees in the
Northwest, plains in the Midwest, the marshes of Florida, all of which have been devastated by
humans in the past centuries. Our great grandparents did not notice the destruction, nor will I ever be

Summary Of The Faces In The Mirror By Ty Burr
Why are people so fascinated with celebrities? What makes people want to be like them? What
are celebrities actually like? Facing these tough questions, Ty Burr in his essay The Faces in the
Mirror forces readers to question their own answers. By explaining the history of celebrities and
the worship of them, he gives readers a wealth of knowledge. Wisely, Burr immediately establishes
his credibility so that readers know they can trust his educated point of view. His essay is full of
strong logic. However, it lacks a substantial amount of hardcore facts. Furthermore, Burr effortlessly
snatches the readers attention by using dramatic statements and achieving a sense of pathos. Burr s
authority on the topic, along with his convincing logic, and dramatic statements allow his essay to
achieve a remarkable persuasiveness to his essay.
In his essay, Burr instantly creates a sense of ethos. Within the first two paragraphs, Burr
articulated that he is a professional film critic for a major metropolitan daily newspaper (Burr
31). Because of this statement, he gained credibility on the subject of actors. Additionally, he has
interviewed a number of actors and directors, ingГ©nues and legends (Burr 31). Burr makes sure
to give some examples of especially famous stars that he has interviewed to further provide
credibility. Some include: Steve Carell, Laura Linney, and Kevin Spacey (Burr 33). Throughout his
essay, Burr takes a position of authority on the subject and writes with intense confidence in his
knowledge. Furthermore, readers swiftly realize that Burr has done plenty of research to make
readers ponder their position. By proving his credibility, Burr quickly and efficiently snatches the
reader s attention and gives them a reason to want to continue reading.
Using a long string of logic, Burr s writing is primarily the history of America s cultural obsession
with celebrities. While his logic is simple to understand, it is absolutely intelligible. Although he
doesn t provide nearly enough hardcore facts, Burr makes sure to include a few facts in an effort to
further his point. For instance, he draws attention to the fact that the man who shot and killed John
Lennon...made sure to get his autograph first

Theme Of Women In Mrs Dalloway
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway tells the story of a middle aged, upper class woman, Clarissa
Dalloway, on a single June day in 1923, who plans a house party. However, Woolf s novel also
traces the story lines of multiple characters, concentrating on their mental states and internal
beliefs. Woolf s novel depicts the impact of World War One and a male dominated society on the
lives of individuals, specifically females. Through the inclusion of primary female characters,
such as Clarissa and Sally, Woolf centralizes an exploration of the emotions the female characters
experience in the novel. Floral imagery abounds to help Woolf develop the connection between
female characters and their routine experiences in English society. In Mrs. Dalloway, Woolf
conveys floral imagery as a dual symbol of both the feminine liberated identity and the
systematic oppression of women in post war English society, through an analysis of female
characters. Woolf s use of floral imagery helps portray the freedom that female characters desire
and experience in their daily London lives. In the first line of the novel, the narrator notes that,
Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself (Woolf, 1). From the start, Clarissa
conveys her desire to experience freedom with the ability to make her own decisions and perform
simple tasks herself . She initially surpasses the low expectations of women in the English society,
using flowers as a tool to combat the oppression. In choosing to buy the

Dna Isolation Research Paper
DNA Isolation, Quantification, and Visualization
DNA isolation is a process of DNA purification through physical and chemical means. DNA was
protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and
cell wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and
solubilize the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the
leaves with a pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution,
broke down the lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to
remove chunks of debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the

San Diego Film Festival The 16th annual film festival was by far the most consistent, well
organized festival I have ever attended. It was interesting to see a community of filmmakers come
together and share their experiences here in San Diego. With it being my first film festival to ever
attend, I was able to grasp and get a taste as to what the reality of filmmaking is through these
independent filmmakers eyes. Targeting mainly the Asian/ Asian American community, filmmakers
where able to screen their creativity into the big screen and reach a more broad audience. Having

To begin with, the audience was predominantly Asian/Asian American whom did not have to use
the subtitles at all while I on the other hand, had to continuously follow along with the film while
also trying to keep up with the subtitles. It was very captivating to observe the comedic scenes in
the movie because people who were able to share the language with the film got the joke right
away during the scene, while I found myself laughing a little bit after or at things that other people
in the audience might have not find if hilarious at all. After this particular screening, once
everyone was exiting the theatre the majority of people being Asian American looked at me in a
surprised way along with my friends. It was not necessarily done with a bad intention but one of
the persons whom attended the screening and was also in charge of working the film festival asked
me what my experience was being non Asian and coming out to these events. In my honest opinion,
it changed the way I perceived Asian/Asian Americans. It changed my opinions and thoughts
entirely because it gave me a chance to have a taste of their culture and what they are really

Columbus
A great hero from Europe or a man with only himself and his people in mind? Many people
believe that he was a hero whose discoveries lead to the possibilities we have in America today,
while many other condemn him for the deaths of many Native Americans that occurred to make
it possible to live in America today. What would someone like me see in Columbus discoveries
and enslavements? He introduced the Europeans to new products and ways of financial
expansion. Even though Columbus gave us a head start to a better life here in America, what
lengths did he go to make such a life possible? He brought over diseases to the natives and also
grazing animals to eat up the vegetation. These deaths would have never occurred if not for the

The discovery of the Americas also allowed new trading options and financial expansion which
benefited all of Europe.
What great length would one man go to for himself and his people? Although Columbus
discoveries offered more trade and financial gain for Europe and himself, the consequences were
more deadly than the gain could ever be fruitful for the natives. With the grazing animals that the
Europeans brought over to the natives, also came a drop in vegetation which decreased their food
supply. With the exchange of goods between the Europeans and the natives there was also an
exchange of diseases. With the diseases such as smallpox, mumps, measles, and whooping cough,
also came another called death. With these diseases spreading through the native villages, fifty to
ninety percent of the native population died. With the decrease in native population also can a
decrease in their resistance and ability to fight off the Europeans. Columbus began to think of the
natives as future slave laborers. Many unsuccessful attempts were made to enslave the natives but
each failed and Columbus gave up and started looking toward the West Africans. They began
kidnapping Africans and bringing them over by ship to the Americas. Many died during the
voyages and the ones that survived became slaves and worked in the Americas.
What could the prospect of becoming rich do to a person not to mention a country? The countries
that funded the explorers are just at fault

State Farm Vs. Geico Commercial
Insurance is something people need, and companies compete with one another for people to buy
their products. In the State Farm commercial, Aaron Rodgers is a celebrity football player who
says people need insurance in case of accidents. In the Geico commercial, a high school football
player is informed by one of his teammates on the field that they can save money by using Geico.
Both of these commercials use logos, pathos, and ethos to sell their products to the public.
Logos is the appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason and statistics (
Examples of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos Internet). What Aaron Rodgers does in the State Farm
commercial is give people a reason to go with State Farm, by showing an example where someone

After analyzing, the State Farm commercial does a more effective job of selling their product to
the consumers by giving examples of when they would need State Farm by combining their home
and auto insurance, rather than siding with the competition. With logos, State Farm does a better
job than Geico because their insurance deal is more lucrative than Geico s customer satisfaction
rating. That goes back to the main point of them selling their product more effectively. Concerning
pathos, State Farm is advantageous to where Geico is not. State Farm humorous situation in where
Aaron Rodgers is trying to swat a fly with a golf club is more capturing, rather than simply a high
school football player getting tackled off guard. Regarding ethos, State Farm is yet again victorious
when it comes to being the more persuasive commercial. What they do is they have two contrasting
situations with Aaron Rodgers, giving two examples where home and auto insurance might be
needed. Geico is similar with the high school football player getting tackled, but their ethics are
dependent on the comedy of the moment and speaker rather than any celebrities endorsing their
product. In conclusion, State Farm is more effective at persuading and selling their product to the
public, and therefore, is the more persuasive

  • 2. Building Design of the Engineering and Computing Builiding... Introduction As an aspiring Architectural Technologist I will be expected to possess a variety of skills which are valuable for any Architectural Technologist position. I will be studying and evaluating a building design of the Engineering and Computing Building, Coventry. I am to assess the structure, identifying, why the building was designed in the way it was, the impact, challenges and purposes. This will allow me to understand the integration of architectural and structural design. 1.1Design philosophy and aesthetics The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates and built by main contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates were trying to create a sustainable postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a landmark in the centre of the city. Designed to meet the university s long term needs in terms of improving the student learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself. The 15,000mВІ building is enclosed in a square, split into two L shaped blocks. Linked together by a glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner. The L block facing the south and west has been configured as the Nature block. This four storey Nature wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to encourage the local wildlife. Well known to attract insects that pipistrelle bats are known to prefer. There is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Drilling Of Fshore Drilling Industry The offshore drilling industry can be split into 5 key markets: upgrade market, contract drilling market, second hand market, scrap market and contract drilling market. Among them contract drilling market is most important, because it ensures smooth cash flow between markets. drilling units is summarised in the table below. The table above describes cash flow within offshore drilling markets. Contract drilling market leases drilling units to O G companies to drill or service wells, in turn they receive day rates. The day rate is the daily price to lease a rig and includes the use of the rig and its crew but does not include most of the other costs associated with drilling and completing a well (e.g., casing, drilling fluids, logistics, well evaluation, etc.). The drilling service industry is the largest and most closely followed of the five markets and drives the activities of investors in the other markets. The new build market uses shipyard labour and capital to convert steel and third party equipment into rigs. Drilling contractors enter into turnkey contracts with shipyards for the construction and delivery of one or more rigs, or yards may build on speculation. The new build market is primarily Asian with major shipyards in Singapore, South Korea, and China. The upgrade market is a ship repair market which both upgrades and maintains rigs. Upgrades improve and modernize rig technology and represent significant capital expenditures. In the second hand market, rigs are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Malice Murder Case The role of malice in determining the level of criminal homicide will have to do with if there was or was not malice aforethought involved with the criminal homicide. Because malice distinguished murder and manslaughter, it was imperative for the courts to define that term. Framers of the Model Penal Code considered malice to be so ill defined, that they abandoned the concept altogether in distinguishing between murderand manslaughter (Brody and Acker, 2010). So let us say there are rival gangs and one gang decides to retaliate against the other gang. It is decided the one gang will go to the hangout of the other gang and shoot members of that gang. • 7. Piaget s Theory On Cognitive Development This essay seeks to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of Piaget s theory on cognitive development. It will focus on Piaget s work highlighting positive attributes and how they re being applied in modern day and also delve on key limitations of the theory. Piaget was a Swiss psychologist who was interested on why children would give similar but wrong answers in an intelligence test (Vidal, 1994). Based on his observations, he concluded that children undergo sequential cognitive development patterns which occur in defined stages in which the child has to follow in succession (Martin, Carlson Buskist, 2013). Consequently, we will focus on the cognitive abilities of a child in relation to socio cultural influence and research methodology that Piaget used. Piaget s work has been appreciated in the education sector over the years. Education remains the key pillar for any societal growth and it s very important to identify how best knowledge can be passed to younger generations in a way that they can understand. Martin (2013) highlights that their exists four unique stages of cognitive development exist with each stage bearing its unique characteristics, thus teachers are able to develop curriculum that corresponds to the child s cognitive ability. More importantly, teachers can establish how best to assimilate knowledge, for example children in the sensorimotor group will learn explicitly faster through activities that involve their senses and motor movements. In the year 2007, the government foreign officials of both these countries agreed to negotiate a Free TradeAgreement (FTA)/. • 10. Bartolome de Las Casas Book Review An Account much abbreviated of the destruction of the Indies, Indianapolis, IN, Hackett Publishing Company INC., 2003 Bartolme De Las Casas is an interesting character. His passion for people who at the time were seen as a sub species of humans (if even human at all) is remarkable. De Las Casas came from a modest family and was well educated. He was brought into the world of the America s through his father Pedro De Las Casas who was an encomiendo himself. His travels through the New World prior to 1510 when he became an ordained priest shaped his crusade to defend the Natives. There are many clues in this book which point to the exaggeration of its content. For instance at one point De Las Casas goes as far as to say that 12 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... De Las Casas did affect King Charles the 5th and in 1542 after reading Brevisima Relacion he quickly created the New Laws which conveniently put an end to some of the rights of the encomienda which the monarch felt gave too much power to Spanish land owners in the Americas. De Las Casas gave the King the perfect excuse to take power back from the encomiendos justifying it with Christianity which the Spanish monarchs were responsible to uphold. The political system of the time and its relation to the Catholic Church makes every situation involving members of the clergy to have political repercussions. The royals used De Las Casas to take power back for them selves; De Las Casas used his political leverage and the crowns responsibility to protect the values of Christianity to aid his cause. While it is clear what the monarchs gain from De Las Casas was, De Las Casas passion to help the Indians seems purely genuine to me. Although at times reading the book I became frustrated and bored (even while I read such brutal details and events) I understand the need for the exaggerations and over done dramatics. Even though it is not 100% true that De Las Casas witnessed all the horrible events that he described it is true that they did occur. The means justifies the end in this case and the need for attention at this time to the terrible treatment of the Natives was worth the repetitive and at times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Causes Of Al Qaeda And The Attack Of September 11 On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by terrorist group name Al Qaeda, they hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last plane did not make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack on September 11th could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as severe. Certain things like lack of government communication, not very thorough background checks on middle eastern immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks impacted the severity of the situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government did not communicate effectively, so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event police had been invigilating possible acts of terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui, with all of his information on his computer. Police applied for a search warrant to search through Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he was accused of being involved in the attack on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s attack important details were not passed on to the needed government agency. Responses are also never what the audience expects them to be. For example in Act 1, page 21, when Lord Goring is speaking to Mabel: Have you missed me? Then I am sorry I didn t stay away longer. I liked being missed. When some tension is in the play, at the end of Act 1 when Robert realizes he is being blackmailed, Lord Goring relieves the tension with his immediate presence at the beginning of Act 2, signaling some hope for Robert Chiltern. Later, on in the play, when Lord Goring is informed by Robert Chiltern of Robert s dark past, (he sold a cabinet several years ago and is now blackmailed by Mrs. Chevelry) his personality changes into becoming serious. By doing this, Oscar Wilde influences the audience to like Lord Goring because although he a comical laid back person, when his friend is in trouble, he will change his character to become what his friend needs, some one serious who understands. However, the main reason why Lord Goring is still liked although he has turned serious is because this fact is greatly overshadowed by the fact that the change in personality is due to him being a loyal friend and attempting to help solve Robert Chiltern s problem. Even, when Lord Goring makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance Essay Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance Anne Hutchinson, on trial for apparently nothing more than leading religious discussions at her house, is subjected to belittlement and unclear, if not unfounded, accusations in The Examination of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson at the Court at Newton. The trial, which took place in 1637, set a standard for the future treatment of women, and subsequently their speech and writing. Because of the way the prosecution pigeonholes Hutchinson into admitting her guilt, the reverends (and thus men) gain (or keep) power over women the power to control their women and to interpret contrived meanings from their words. Though she has broken a commandment in the court s eyes, there are countless ways to dishonor the parents without breaking the law. By bearing false witness against Hutchinson, Winthrop is breaking a commandment (and in so doing, dishonoring his parents). Hutchinson is only asking for a clear explanation of the charges against her, but is never given a satisfactory answer. During the questioning, Hutchinson is quick with her answers, but her evident logic is not enough to keep the court from modifying its arguments: Mrs. H. I think I may. Do you think it not lawful for me to teach women and why do you call me to teach the court? Gov. We do not call you to teach the court but to lay open yourself. Mrs. H. I desire you that you would set me down a rule by which I may put them away that come unto me and so have peace in so doing. Gov. You must shew your rule to receive them. Mrs. H. I have done it. Gov. I deny it because I have brought more arguments than you have (315). The court calls for Hutchinson to lay herself open, but she has clearly already done so. The Existence of Racism Essay The Existence of Racism Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define (de Benoist, 1999, p. 11). Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Before delving into the complex concept of racism, it is recommended that the student who is writing on this topic first consider the notion of race, which has been described as a group of people with the same physical ... This argument is rooted in belief that some groups sport a more impressive biological pedigree than others and are therefore better than other groups from the moment of birth. Finally, there is the idea that suggests that group diversity is forged through social behavior (Vorster, 1999). In other words, some groups simply have greater physical or intellectual capacities than others, which allow them to be easily categorized on the basis of superiority and inferiority (Vorster, 1999). Interestingly, these ideas seem to transcend all cultural barriers, which is why racism is prevalent in both primitive as well as civilized societies. There are three major factors which need to be considered in order to provide a sufficient overview of racism that lends itself to further, more detailed analysis. First, there is the ideology mentioned earlier, the significance of which cannot be underestimated (Vorster, 2002). In fact, back in 1978, UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] issued a Declaration of Race, which defined racism as, any theory claiming the intrinsic ... That s one important aspect of social media channels, the almost simultaneous interaction and sense of being heard immediately. One may argue that they don t need any social media presence since they ve been doing well so far but with the growing number of consumers using social media channels, I would advise them to start at least two channels. I feel that a Twitter and Facebook channel would be the best places to start. They would be able to target a wide array of audiences through these channels. To start, they could link their Facebook and Twitter accounts allowing them to post on one site and have it be seen on the other. Gradually they could start crafting Twitter specific tweets and unlink their Facebook and Twitter channels. It has been heavily encouraged through negative stereotypes as well as media. For example in some television series, the protagonist is shown as being too cool for school and in some cases has failing grades. The problem of maleunderachievement is becoming more prevalent within our society today, and can be seen as result due to a vichyssoise of problems such as peer pressure, negative portrayal by the media and lack of proper upbringing in homes. Therefore we can see that in Trinidad the marginalization of the father figure role is leading to not only an increase in male underachievement but also eventually an increase in other social problems such as crime. Singh S. (2007) sees underachievement as occurring even at higher levels of education. For instance she has noted that females have yet again outshone males with 65 percent of the first degrees and 63 percent of higher degrees being secured by females. This presents a worrying situation as it means that there would be less men who are educated and employable within the country, what this could lead to is an eventual labour vacuum, due to the inability to fill positions. This she argues is based mainly on cultural factors, which must be addressed. If this is not done, the performance of males may continue to spiral downwards leading to disastrous results. Abnormalities in placental development can result in pregnancy complications such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and pre eclampsia (PE), which affect one in ten pregnancies in New Zealand. IUGR occurs in 3 5% of all pregnancies, and is associated with an assortment of increased risks of its own, such as hypoglycaemia, hypothermia, developmental delays and increased risk of infection. Despite its prevalence, we currently have no effective treatment for IUGR other than close monitoring and premature delivery of the baby. Worldwide, 10% of neonatal mortality can be put down to prematurity, but the risks do not stop there respiratory problems, feeding difficulties, and neurological problems also increase in incidence as gestational age at delivery decreases. Furthermore, IUGR babies are at an increased risk of cardiovascular problems, obesity and type II diabetes in adulthood, diseases which the health system is currently plagued with. Together, these issues place a considerable burden on healthcare providers in both the short and long term to the cost of up to $300 000 NZD per child, along with an intangible cost to the families of the children. Weightlifting There are many debates about weather powerlifting or weightlifting is better for athletic training. In my opinion I think that in order to reach max performance you must use both powerlifting and weightlifting. Powerlifting has a bigger risk because you use more weight but it is risky either way. Weightlifting helps prevent injury and is used in almost every sport. The most important aspect of training is absolute strength because it controls all strength gains. We can assume that the most important aspect of athletic development should be focused on the training of absolute strength, which is rooted with powerlifting. Powerlifting methods make the training of absolute strength a priority. The better approach in the training of athletes is a mix of both powerlifting and weightlifting in my opinion. • 24. Shakespeare And 130 And Sonnet 130 Comparison Using the technique of comparison, William Shakespeare describes how deep his love is for his significant other in both Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130. Shakespeare takes an unconventional approach by utilizing compare and contrast to make his point. Although he writes the sonnets differently, the moral theme happens to be the same. The two sonnets begin in total opposite tones but conclude the same. Shakespeare proves that the same underlying theme can be proved by using different poetic styles and techniques, such as rhyme scheme or comparisons, thus leads to the comparison and contrast between Sonnet18 and Sonnet 130. In Sonnet 130, William Shakespeare inadvertently uses blazon, a popular form of poetryduring the sixteenth century, to give a detailed summary of his beloved s physical features in a negative manner. A typical blazon would describe a female s body from head to toe. It allowed writers to project an idealized woman whose features could be admired from afar. In the first four lines, Sonnet 130 slowly reveals the conflicting image. The first line begins as a stereotypical love poem, but by the conclusion of the second line, the intent of the poem is unclear. The poem is shocking because instead of using common love poetry techniques, Shakespeare suggests that the woman he is portraying is unattractive and more beautiful things exist, for example, coral is redder than her lips. (Shakespeare, Sonnet 130) The poem continues in this same manner throughout, until line 12. Here Shakespeare sets a tone of criticism. Ironically, he still uses stereotypical love images such as perfume, roses and music to compare his love. The other method used by Shakespeare in Sonnet 130 is the element of surprise. Throughout the poem, he states a beautiful characteristic then shortly follows up with the diminishing of his significant other, almost giving no meaning to the characteristic previously stated. In An Overview of Sonnet 130, Joanne Woolway states, Roses are the stuff of love poetry, but the positivity of line 5 is quickly destroyed by line 6 which negatively affects the praise that the previous line had hinted. The timing is perfect; the surprise that is given from this non comparison is far ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Woolf s novel also traces the story lines of multiple characters, concentrating on their mental states and internal beliefs. Woolf s novel depicts the impact of World War One and a male dominated society on the lives of individuals, specifically females. Through the inclusion of primary female characters, such as Clarissa and Sally, Woolf centralizes an exploration of the emotions the female characters experience in the novel. Floral imagery abounds to help Woolf develop the connection between female characters and their routine experiences in English society. In Mrs. Dalloway, Woolf conveys floral imagery as a dual symbol of both the feminine liberated identity and the systematic oppression of women in post war English society, through an analysis of female characters. In the first line of the novel, the narrator notes that, Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself (Woolf, 1).
