This slide show outlines the process of creating videos using 3D environments and video capture tools.
The seven steps:
1) Watch two documentaries;
2) Learn some history;
3) Gather your tools;
4) Choose a 3D platform;
5) Find Actors and Shoot;
6) Edit the Video and add Sound;
7) Distribute it on the ‘Net.

SpotCam HD Wi-Fi Video Monitoring camera reviewspotcam
When you work away from home or travel often, it’s nice to be able to check in on things at home for security and peace of mind. That’s why I have installed various WiFi security cameras in my home that can be accessed by web browsers and mobile apps. The newest camera that I’ve been given the opportunity to review is the SpotCam Wi-Fi Video Monitoring camera.
Document Camera Webcams are ceiling mounted Pan Tilt Zoom USB cameras that server a dual purpose. When inverted and mounted in the ceiling a USB PTZ Camera allows for multiple useful camera views for web video conferencing, online meetings and training exercises.
Slides used to support remote training session on screencasting. Considers the educational applications, the tools and how to use them to create effective screencasts.

As a corporate communications professional, one of the newest and best tools at your disposal to increase employee engagement AND save money is professional live video streaming. Professional means something more like tv and less like a static phone shot or worse yet, video conferencing. Technology has now made it possible for you to professionally broadcast your event inexpensively, with less hassle, and with more impact than ever before. Check out our short overview "Simplify and Engage" to find out more.

Regardless of the tool used for production, creating effective screencasts is an art. Here is an overview of a presentation of this topic to Orange County STC.
This is an overview (with accompanying video) of Adobe Presenter, and how it compares to Adobe Captivate and other eLearning tools. I've also included a demo of editing with the Adobe Presenter Video Express application.

I've been training groups on tech comm video for the past few years. This session will cover some of the best practices and take-aways from those experiences.
This is the slide show from the Ragan Communications webinar that I presented on with Elizabeth Schainbaum on May 14, 2010. Acknowledgement to Vince Golla for his slides which were adapted for this session.
Webinar description:
At Kaiser Permanente, they arm their employees with Flip cameras to capture important employee news to post on the company's intranet. The result: complicated new company initiatives are now easy to explain with two-minute videos vignettes that keep employees informed—and entertained.
Get practical tips on how to use your Flip—and find out what kind of stories are best told with this camera.

Some tech comm is tough to put into words. Instead, push content to recorded video via recorded meetings, screen recordings, or interactive simulations.
In a nutshell screen capture is the art of developing educational materials by capturing a video of what is happening on a computer screen. This simple process can allow rapid creation of rich-media instructional aides. In this talk I will present some experiences of mine and of my colleagues in developing these resources for students of Oscail in Dublin City University who are studying a Bsc. in Information Technology by distance education. I will look at some tips I wrote two years ago on this topic and examine their continued relevance. The take-home message of this talk will be “publish or perish”, an exhortation to the educator to focus not on fancy production or editing of screen captures but rather on a process that involves a minimum of time and technical effort to create videos and get them to students. To finish I will give an overview of how we are using Camtasia Studio with Google Video as part of DCU’s roll out of Google Apps for Education and demonstrate some interesting aspects of this elearning platform.
Creating a video walk-through of property for sale can highlight both the features of the home (or commercial space) and the knowledge and personality of the agent.

Video Production Using Open Source ToolsCrazed Mule
Abstract: Over the last decade, farms of Linux servers have powered the production of major motion pictures. Today, individuals can use Linux to produce and distribute video in numerous formats; for example, YouTube, iTunes, DVD, and Blu Ray. Linux is no longer a hobbyists' tool, but a powerful production system that can be custom tailored. However, setting up a system like this is not for the faint of heart. Video and audio encoding and compression schemes can drive one to drink. Editing software in Linux is not polished, but difficulties can be overcome with perseverance. I will attempt to show how to create a working production workflow using Fedora, Cinelerra and various open source tools to produce a video ready for YouTube, iTunes, DVD and Vimeo.

Focus on the topic - Writing better content, fasterMatt Sullivan
By whittling down content to a single topic, you can save time in production of text and video content, while improving the reuse of the content and its life span.
For more on content workflow and on screencast creation, see http://bit.ly/screencast-course
Video is an effective way to add context to your content. But how do you effectively produce video?
I've worked out techniques that let me produce crisp, professional video at about an hour per minute of video, which is about 1/4 of the time required previously.
Because the videos are short, they are inherently reusable across company channels, as well as via social channels and blogs.
See http://bit.ly/tcs-videonotes for a 25-video series I did for Adobe using these techniques.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
