- 2. Film’s that have an unrealistic narrative as it is based on fantasy themes, including sci-fi. An example of this would beThe Maze Runner as the film is set in a dystopian society in the future.The fact that this structure is anti- realistic means that it is often shown in teaser trailers as it appeals to a mass market, however it doesn’t apply to my chosen genre which is based off of real life situations so I won’t be using this structure in my production.
- 3. Where the narrative is told in time-order from start to finish. An example of this would be Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging as the film follows the events leading up to Georgia’s 16th birthday.The fact that by the film being in chronological order makes the story more realistic makes it conventional for my chosen genre. However as teaser trailers only include clips, it is unlikely to be linear so despite it being conventional for the genre, I won’t be using this structure.
- 4. Where the story’s conflict is solved at the end of the film. An example of this isThe Perfect Man as the film ends with Holly’s family finally settling down after they were continuously moving and with her finally getting to go to a school dance.The idea of a closed ending is conventional to the genre and it is often a happy ending as well. However, as the production is a teaser trailer there will not be a closed ending as the element of mystery is required meaning I won’t be using this structure.
- 5. A single story line is told from start to finish.An example of this would be Pitch Perfect as it follows the college life of Beca rather than focusing on different characters.This is conventional in both teen drama films but also in their teaser trailers as the trailer will focus on the main character and the events that happen to them.Therefore it will be likely for me to use this structure in my production.
- 6. Films and narratives that look realistic and lifelike. An example of this would beThe Lizzie McGuire Movie as it follows the main character Lizzie on a school trip.This is conventional for the genre as it focuses on real life situations which makes the film relatable for the audience. It is also conventional for the teaser trailer in this genre as it shows clips from the film which is given a realistic tone. It will be likely I use this structure in my production.
- 7. Where a film has more than one story being told at the same time. An example of this would be Stuck in Love which focuses on three different love stories rather than one.This is semi-conventional of the teen drama genre as it is present in a few of the films. It would also be semi- conventional in the teaser trailer as it would show clips from all three stories therefore showing the multi-strand narrative. I may use this structure in my production.
- 8. Where the film ends without the conflict being resolved, usually to make room for a sequel. An example of this would be If I Stay which ends with Mia opening her eyes after being in a coma.There is no explanation as to what happens next which intrigues the audience. This is semi-conventional in the teen drama genre as it is present in a few films. However, as the ending is not shown in the teaser trailers I won’t be using this structure in my production.
- 9. A narrative that isn’t shown in chronological order which will most likely include flashbacks. An example of this would beThe Notebook which alternates between the present and the past in the form of flashbacks.This is semi- conventional to the genre as it builds the romance story and is featured in a few films. It is also conventional in teaser trailers as they include clips from the film in no apparent order. I will definitely use this structure in my production.
- 10. As a teaser trailer’s purpose is to announce a film and tease the audience, it is unlikely the narrative structure will be clear. However, the most noticeable narrative structures in teaser trailers for teen dramas include open ending as it’s imbecilic to use a closed ending narrative on a teaser trailer as it would ruin the actual film. It is also most likely for the trailer to be non-linear as the majority of them contain montages of clips from the actual film that don’t appear to be in chronological order meaning that it is unlikely for the trailer to be linear. It also expected to be a single stranded narrative as teen dramas usually focus around one or two main characters and their problems and relationship with each other. Due to the nature of the narrative, it is most likely that the narrative structure will also be realistic as teen dramas focus on realistic characters with realistic issues.
