2. Research into genre related films
Memento - The Prestige - The Dark Knight
All three of these films are possibilities into my primary genre ‘mystery/thriller’
although I do have a back up horror story although I feel that would be too common
and the idea will be shrouded with unoriginally story telling thus I want to push
forward the thriller genre.
I will analyze the three of these film trailers and assess there positive points and see
what I can learn and use from them.

3. Plot Ideas
I feel the center piece of the best thriller films is in fact the main character. Thus I have to create a
character with interesting enough features into which they can hold an audiences attention. This
is hugely representable in the dark knight , shutter island , memento , all brilliant films.
I want to center this character to a disability , what the disability is , is yet un known , although it
is going to be central to the plot much like in memento and shutter island , although this
disability I want to be original in its making.
Our main character will also be tied and centered around a set of horrifying murders , in which
the murderer is sending messages in a range of encrypted forms and have to attempt to prevent
the next set.
Although I feel this murderer and the disability of the main character will be the link and form an
unexpected twist towards the end of the films, it will be important to not reveal this in the trailer
although hint towards a plot turning story within the film , to reel in audiences.

4. Locations
Glossop town-Surrounding countryside-Manchester city
My location allows me to use a vast range of different locations , which will include city’s town’s
and country side . Allowing variation throughout. Whether I’ll use all these locations at my
disposal is still unknown but it’s good to know they are there.
Often these films are set in city scopes or iconic locations such as prisons , although I think a
mixture of all three would be ideal within my trailer.

5. Sound
Scored Music
I feel this trailer will work well with a set of scored music , although as I’m no musician I feel it
would be incredibly difficulty for me to create a high quality amount of scored music for this
trailer. Although the three I’ve analyzed , only the dark knight trailer used a high level of scored
music , the other two used it mainly when transitioning through the scenes , which is something I
may be able to replicate.
I think it would be a useful technique to have a set amount of characters speaking over scenes
giving an audience understanding of them. This would further negate the necessary need for a
large amount of music and may add a higher quality effect to the overall trailer. This technique
was used throughout both the memento trailer and prestige trailer.

6. Props
Due to the fact , it is rather common for this type of films to have amounts of violence , a set of
props , weapons will more than likely be required. Along with a range of yet to be realised props .
This will be to do with clothing , as all the necessary characters will have to be recognisable in
their roles and believable.
As it’s more than likely that the characters will be teenagers due to actors. This will mean I’ll have
to base the story around something teenagers could accomplish which will further mean there
will be a lack of professions to do with murders in the film.
To keep budgets low , I’ll have to attempt to keep to props that I can get to my hand with minimal
prices if any , it may be difficult to source weaponry that looks realistic but I’m sure all that I need
can be accomplished.

7. Actors
To make a trailer , I obviously need a set of actors. This will be difficult to an extent due to the
fact I have a limited amount of people who would be willing to perform on camera. This also
proves a second problem that any characters I think of will have to be modelled off the actor ,
which limits my freedom when creating them.
I have a range of people who do drama , who may be available to play leading roles , while for
side and small parts in the trailer trained actors may not be required.
Though it will be important that all of them can convey believable characters and if I go down the
road of a mentally split protagonist it will take some skill to portray the two personalities
separately , something I’m debating to do myself , as I wont have to explain the character to
anyone if I play it exactly how I chose , although with no serious previous acting experience it may
be better served with a drama student. All will be decided closer to filming dates.
