Philosophy of Hand
Hygiene• I have spent more than 4 decades in
Profession and many years as a Microbiologist
attached to many Institutes, the least cared
practice is Good hand hygiene, Many patient's
get infected after bone surgeries and many
others with more critical care and succumb to
Hospital associated infections, It certainly
shows after centuries of education on hand
hygiene few act as Ambassadors to good
hand hygiene and control the infections
More the people are seniors they are least
bothered about a good hand hygiene. In
reality Infections can be prevented and rarely
cured with emerging drug resistance.
• Never forget a Scientific Hand Wash is a great
prayer to the almighty to save many Humans

HISTORY OF
HAND
HYGINE
• Handwashing with soap and
water has been considered a
measure of personal hygiene
for centuries and has been
generally embedded in
religious and cultural habits.
Nevertheless, the link
between handwashing and
the spread of disease was
established only two
centuries ago,
6/4/2017 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @Hamd Hygiene 4
HISTORY OF
HAND HYGINE
• In the mid-1800s, studies
by Ignaz Semmelweis in
Vienna, Austria, and
Oliver Wendell Holmes
in Boston, USA,
established that
hospital-acquired
diseases were
transmitted via the
hands of HCWs

HISTORY OF
HAND HYGINE
• The 1980s represented a
landmark in the evolution of
concepts of hand hygiene in
health care. The first national
hand hygiene guidelines were
published in the 1980 followed
by several others in more recent
years in different countries
