Staying at, The Top
Being The Best You Can
Be!
(Based on the work of Ric
Charlesworth)
2. Goals
• Process & Performance Goals:
No Goal can be achieved without an emphasis
on the detail of improving every athlete,
every day
• Outcome Goals:
These Goals follow on – The Outcome of
Being The Best becomes a ’Given’.
3. Quality
• The important work occurs in preparation and
training
• Thoroughness – Attention to Detail. A pursuit
of excellence, obsession with getting it right.
• Aim to be 20% better than the opposition –
Never aim to just get the ‘Next’ win!
6. PP + MP = IP
Perfecting Process
+
Measurable Practice
=
Ideal Performance
7. Training & Learning
• Training is the Rehearsal for Performance
• Accept the challenge of tasks that extend your
capabilities – these can provide for rapid
growth and learning.
We are what we continually
do; Excellence is not an act,
it is a habit. (Aristotle)
8. Honesty
Have you followed a programme?
Have you asked for Help?
Have you put in the Hours?
Blame
Don’t blame……
Don’t blame……
Don’t Blame……
Editor's Notes
Stress importance of ‘Process Goals’ Focus on Outcome detracts from the process
Perfect Process, Measurable Practice, Ideal Performance – Basketball Free Throw shooter – hardly ever miss, because the Perfect Process is continually practiced. Swimming – all about perfect process – the perfect stroke. Gymnastics – perfect replication of a much practiced routine.
Refer back to Basketball, swimming. Gymnastics etc.. Training can be harder than actual competition- extending capabilities makes the ‘usual’ much simpler.
