writing tasks, for example:
book reviews, biography,
autobiography, report,
essay, editorial, article,
memoir, short story,
poem…

In writing, the Audience is
the group of people who
will be reading what you
write.
Meet Audience
 There are several important things
to remember about your audience.
- what does your audience
know and believe?
- who are the people in your
audience?
The many faces of Audience.
Why is audience important?
Audience is important because you would not
talk to your parents the same why you would talk
to your friends. You would use different language
to convince your congressman to change his
mind than you would use to convince your little
sister to change her mind. Knowing about who
will be reading your writing –Knowing Who Is In
Your Audience —changes the language you
choose, the tone you use, and sometimes even the
way you present and organize information!

When you think of purpose
remember to think about WHY
you are writing:
To persuade
To inform
To entertain
To express ideas & feelings
When you think of Purpose…
Task– the kind of
writing required.
Audience– who will be
reading your writing.
Purpose– why you are
writing.

  • 8. Why is audience important? Audience is important because you would not talk to your parents the same why you would talk to your friends. You would use different language to convince your congressman to change his mind than you would use to convince your little sister to change her mind. Knowing about who will be reading your writing –Knowing Who Is In Your Audience —changes the language you choose, the tone you use, and sometimes even the way you present and organize information!
