1. Task 7.
I have learnt a great amount through the progression of our
movie. I came into the start of this project thinking that
because I had done media in year 11 I wouldn’t be able to
learn much in the first year, however I was wrong. In year
11, I made a magazine, which was a lot easier than the whole
production of our movie. Although I understood all media
terminology and didn’t have any difficulties when the
teachers spoke about mise en scene with layout, but now I
have become familiar about moving image terminology.
I also learnt a lot about cameras; in the prelim task we used
continuity editing which was something I hadn’t been
familiar with before so this was knew to me however I
picked it up pretty quickly. In the Arlington road task we
used another editing technique which was montage editing,
this was a little more complex and took me a little longer to
understand and come to grips with. However after our final
and main task, our movie which we called intruding
deception we used both continuity editing and montage
editing I then came to understand the both of them fully and
I feel confident with both of the techniques if I need to use
them again. As we used montage editing in intruding
deception it made be become much more confident and I felt
that I knew what I was doing although I had to ask for help
from some of the members of the class who understood
extremely well and almost become experts after a few go’s. I
also had a lack of understanding about sound, as we had also
not studied this in year 11 either, for the prelim task there
was basic sound which was where I came to the
understanding of diegetic sound which was dialogue. I
hadn’t heard the terminology of diegetic sound previously.
In Arlington road the sound was non-diegetic, we made
sound for Arlington road by making our own backing tunes
with garage band on the mac. The final task, intruding
deception we used both diegetic sound and non-diegetic so
2. it had a good mix and we already knew how to do both
because of the practise from the two previous tasks.
Although the sound for the prelim task was basic we had our
chance in intruding deception to improve our skills and
make the sounds better. Overall I would say my favourite
tsk was intruding deception as w had a chance to create
everything from scratch with our own ideas and the only
thing we had to follow was the genre which was a thriller
however we were happy with that genre anyway.
The first bit of audience feedback we receive was very
critical, as when the movie was showed to the class it was
just the rough cut and we had not finished completely.
Sound was the main thing that the class criticized as there
was nothing to listen to the whole way through apart from a
few seconds of diegetic sound. The first interview which was
recorded and put on our blog was us asking questions to a
few people as to what they thought about the ideas of our
movie, the story line and the movie name. As we was unsure
at the beginning what type of film we wanted to create it
was apparent that the audience found the story line
confusing and unclear however once we had made it more
specific and less vague they began to like the idea and a few
3. of the interviewers said they would enjoy watching the film
once it had been made.
