The document discusses plans for a new hip hop magazine. It will focus on hip hop as that is the creator's favorite genre and they are familiar with existing hip hop magazines like VIBE. The target audience will be teenagers as that age group enjoys hip hop and the creator is a teenager themselves. The magazine will take inspiration from VIBE, a famous hip hop magazine founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones and Time Inc. Harris Publications will make a good publisher as they have experience publishing hip hop magazines for an 18+ audience and appealing to niche markets.

2. I have decided that the magazine I will be producing will focus on the
genre Hip Hop. As this is my favourite genre I will enjoy the creation of
the magazine. Also, i am familiar with Hip Hop magazines as in the past I
have purchased “VIBE” which is a famous Hip Hop magazine. In addition
my target audience will be teenagers as this age category like Hip Hop,
also the fact I am a teenager I will know what my audience will be
looking for in the magazine. I will take a lot of inspiration from the
magazine VIBE which is published by Quincy Jones (in the year 1993) in
partnership with Time Inc who is famous in the Hip Hop industry for
producing music, films and magazines.
3. Research
VIBE:
Editor: Quincy Jones
Frequency: Weekly issues
Publisher: Time Inc
Genre: Hip Hop
First Issue: September
1993
Country: US & UK
Language: English
Target Audience:
Teenagers – 30s.
4. The VIBE magazine which was first published in September (1993)
featuring one of the most famous Hip Hop artists Snoop Dogg by Quincy
Jones and Time Inc. They had launched the magazine first as a monthly
issue than later to a week. The name was called Volume before co-
founding editor Scott Bryant changed the name to VIBE to give it a more
Hip Hop related name.
In 2009 VIBE was on the verge of being shutdown and ceasing
publication due to the fact they were not selling enough copies but
Quincy Jones had the motivation to “Keep it alive.”
The magazine had several pages on high end designer clothing and
sports wear worn by Hip Hop artists that consumers could buy.
5. Harris Publications Inc
Harris Publications which was founded in 1985 is an american magazine
publisher based in New York City that publishes over 75 titles such as
XXL which is a famous Hip Hop magazine. Harris Publications publish
over 15 different genres of magazines with a work force of more than
150 people. Harris Publications first started creating horror magazines
such as “Creepy” but after their establishment they started reaching the
wider audience by creating different genre of magazines such as body
building, gardening and vehicles. This publisher target mainly 18+ year
olds which will help me because my target audience are this age group.
Also they would be a good publisher for my magazine as they have
published Hip Hop genres such as Juicy, so the audience will know what
my magazine will be of a high quality. Lastly, Harris Publications have
experience in appealing to different niche markets.
