Edwin Porter Was an American film pioneer who was
also a producer, director and studio manager. He was
born April 21, 1870 and died April 30 1941 and was
from Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He made Over 250
Films one of his most famous being 'The Great Train
Robbery’1903. Porter set the first projector in new
York city 1896 and operated his own equipment head
of production skylight studios 1903 life of the
American firemen. He also discovered cutting between

4. Continuity Editing.
Continuity editing is a style of editing that allows
footage to look as If it were shot and wasn’t cut.
It also allows the footage to look smooth and fall in
place together. This form of editing was discovered
by Edwin S Porter and inspired David Griffith to
develop the style and possibly develop more. these
shots were cut at different points put placed
together to make it one continuos scene.

A Moviola is a device that allows a film
editor to view a film while in the process
of being edited. It was the first machine
for motion picture editing when it was
invented in 1924. this was used by porter
whilst he was making his film.
