2. Edwin porter was a film pioneer he
was a director, producer and
cinematographer. Altogether he
made 250 films. His most famous
The Great Train Robbery (1903). He
discovered different techniques such
as a close up.
3. The molviola started around 1924, it was
important for editing films until the 1960s.
Iwan serruier invented it for editing. The way it
works is the editors of the film will be able to
look at shots they created in their cutting
rooms, to see where to cut the shot. Next the
editor would have to place the shots in order
of what they like, then the machine would reel
and glue them together.
4. This method is commonly used in all movies nowadays, but it first was
invented by Ewin Porter, It was used in The great train robbery to edit the
shots. It looked simple. But back then it was really advance and technical.
Continuity editing created a smooth motion picture and it continues all the
scenes together smoothly There are techniques use within continuity editing
such as Establishing shot, Crosscutting and shot reverse shot. These shots are
still used in films today
5. An Example of continuity
editing is when the train
is moving and they
connect the scenes
together and show them
inside the train.
Another example of
continuity editing is at
the end scene where
there is a close up of
the train thief. He done
this so the audience
find out who it was at
the end
They used a
establishing shot
here to show the
train and where
they are
Then the cut to the
thief's robbing the
train which flowed
very well in the film
and is a good example
of continuity
