Propp's theory defines 7 character archetypes that recur in narratives: the Hero, Villain, Donor, Dispatcher, False Hero, Helper, and Prince. Todrov’s narrative theory basically talks about the story or plot lines that follow the
same pattern or pitch. It consists of 5 steps which are:
1) Equilibrium : Which is the first part of the story which will display a happy start
where the majority of the characters are content and everything should stay the
same.
2) A Disruption : Which is the second part of the story which will feature a
problem or some thing which could disrupt the happiness.
3) Realisation : Which is the part of the plot where everyone realises that the
problem is a chaos.
4) Restored Order : Which is when the characters attempt to repair the damage
and restore the problem.
5) Equilibrium Again : Which is the final part of the plot where the problem is
resolved and normality can resume again.

2. Propp’s narrative theory is basically about the idea of how a certain type
of character was to be used in every narrative structure. His theory has
influenced many filmmakers to writing and producing successful
narratives. Propp’s theory consists off:
1) The Hero: A character that seeks something
2) The Villain: Who opposes or actively block’s the hero’s quest.
3) The Donor: Who provides an object with magical properties.
4) The Dispatcher: Who sends the hero on his/her quest via a message.
5) The False Hero: Who disrupts the hero’s success by making false
claims.
6) The Helper: Who aids the hero.
7) The Princes: Acts as the reward for the hero and the object of the
villain’s plots.
8) Her Father: Who acts to reward the hero for his effort.
Having seen both theories I think Todrov’s theory suits our film more because
Todrov’s theory is more of a realistic narrative of what usually goes on in movies
and we can relate to it more than Propp’s because our film follows the steps of
Todrov’s theory where you start with a happy scene in the beginning then the
mood of the film gradually start’s to change which follows Todrov’s pitch and
pattern.
