Task 10 – Research Article -
Indesign
Roisin Quinn
Using Indesign
To create my double page spread, I have been
using Indesign. The first thing I had to do when
creating my double page spread was select how
many pages I needed, I chose four so that I
could insert my contents and front cover later.
For the double page spread we had to make
sure that two A4 pages were joined so that we
could create our articles.
Bringing in my Masthead
• I used photoshop to
bring in my masthead
form my front cover. I
had to make sure the
surrounding of my
masthead was
transparent and
cropped so that it
would stay this way
when brought in to
Indesign.
Columns
I stuck to a conventional
number of columns for my
contents page, 3. To create
columns I filled my textbox with
placeholder text and selected
the number three using the
Columns tool in the top bar. We
also had to link the text boxes
on each page using the box at
the top so that the text would
flow from one side of the page
to the other.
Page Numbers
• To create the page
numbers I just added
two text boxes on
each page of my
double page spread
and inserted the
numbers. I had to
make sure they were
the same as the
numbers I used on
my contents page.
By line
• A by line is a line that
states who the article
is written by. It has to
be slightly bigger than
the rest of the text
and to create this I
just added a text box
and wrote “By Roisin
Quinn” in size 12 font.
Drop Cap
• To create a drop cap
in my article I had to
click in the first
paragraph and use
the Drop Cap tool in
the top bar, I
selected 3 lines.
Colour.
• To change the colour
of text you have to
highlight it and use
the colour tool. I
changed the colour
of my drop cap so it
would keep to my
colour scheme.
Swatch
• To create a swatch
you need to pick a
colour and add it to
your swatches. I used
a swatch of a red
colour to create my
colour scheme.
Grab Quote
• To create a grab qoute
you need to select some
important text, copy it,
paste it in to a new text
box, make it bigger and
add it back in to your
article somewhere. It
needs to stand out so
that it draws people in
and it must have text
wrapped around it. I put
my grab quote in an
elipses so it stands out.
