Collette Howard conducted a questionnaire of 15 people to determine preferences for their target music magazine audience. She found that rock was the most popular genre, followed by "other" genres besides rock, metal, pop, or hip-hop. Most people listened to music on their iPods and downloaded music, often illegally. The most commonly cited favorite bands were JLS, The Killers, and Coldplay. While most people did not read music magazines currently, they listened to music multiple times per day, especially in the evenings. Responses regarding favorite artists provided additional guidance on content for the new magazine.
