2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Group Presentation 2 Economics.Ariana Buscigliopptx
Target audience
1. Target audience
In this presentation I will be looking at the different
groups of people who may be interested by my
documentary and would find the product useful to
their specific needs. I will also be looking at the
different factors in an audience and exploring who my
target audience is.
2. Target audience age group
The group of people that I will be targeting and specifically creating my documentary for will be in
the age group ranging from 16 years old to 22 years old. The reason why I have chosen to target
this specific age group is because the content of my documentary will cater for them. The reason
for grouping this age range together is because from my research I have found out that this is the
generation. Therefore their opinions and mentality will not vary too much from each other and
the age group are more likely to have an interest in the same things. This age group are also more
or less at the same place in life, meaning they are either all in education or work and have the
same ambitions and goals of growing up. Therefore targeting this specific age group will be easier
that targeting a wider age range as they may not have the same opinions. The language and style
of talking which I will use in my documentary will also appeal to my targeted age group as this use
of language is most common with this generation. If there is a style of language that my target
audience understand and are familiar with they will feel as if I have targeted them directly and
will be more interested in watching the final product. My documentary is about London's music
and fashion culture. I will be featuring artists and music producers which will be familiar to this
age group and again they will take an interest in this as they are able to recognise familiar faces.
The music that I will feature in my documentary will also be appealing to the audience as this will
be the genre of music the target audience listen to. In terms of the fashion side of my
documentary this age group will again feel targeted as it will include fashion trends that this
generation wear therefore the audience will be able to relate to it.
3. Target audience location
The location I am targeting for my documentary is London therefore my target audience will be
from and located in London. The reason I have chosen to target 16-22 year olds from London is
because the topic of my documentary is about London and the music and fashion culture in
London therefore Londoners will again feel catered for and specifically targeted. The music
culture in London differentiates from the music culture of other cities outside of London
therefore targeting a group outside of London will defeat the purpose of my documentary as the
group will not be able to relate to the documentary or understand the purpose fully. The fashion
culture in London is also distinctive to London therefore an audience outside of London will again
not be able to relate to it and not find the product as relatable. the target audience will be from
London and therefor already know about the fashion culture and may be able to relate to it and
understand better the reasons for peoples fashion sense. They will also be educated around the
fashion culture in London. The slang and use of language in my documentary will also involve
words and phrases which are distinctive to London therefore my audience will feel targeted and
realise the documentary is created fro them and their understanding.
4. Target audience gender
My target audience will be both male and female. I have chosen to target both make and female
as the fashion which I will be exploring is open to both male and females as well as the fashion
culture in London being quite diverse and gender free. Fashion culture in London is now known
to be unisex fashion mostly especially the fashion that evolves from grime music. The music
which will be explored in my documentary, grime music is also known to be relatable by both
male and females. Although grime artists are mostly male, there are female artists which I will be
featuring in my documentary. I will use language which is familiar to both genders and include
individuals who are representatives for both genders to prevent a gender feeling left out or
feeling that the documentary is not targeted at them.
5. Target audience economical class
My target audience will be in the middle class and below/. The reason for this is because the
majority of London's population is in this economical class. They will range from the B group to
the C2 group. From my research I have discovered that a vast amount of 16-22 year olds living in
London range from this economical class. The fashion which is going to be featured in my
documentary also range from this economical class due to branding and pricing. The economical
class of my target audience will be able to relate to the documentary as they will find familiar
fashion trends to their own and find brands which is in the economical cap. The music from the
artists in London are also from this economical class or were prior to fame therefore their music
is in relation to their economical lives and growing up in London with this class attached t them.
My audience will be able to relate to the content of my documentary as they are able to relate to
the music, fashion, branding etc.
