The Power Of The Punic Wars
As one of the strongest maritime armies of their time, the Carthaginians controlled
land that the Romans wanted. Thus, the Punic Wars spanned over a century between
Rome and Carthage. The Romans initiated the first Punic War in Sicily, Hannibal
declared war on Rome which marked the start of the second Punic War. The
Carthaginians broke their treaty with Rome when they declared war on a neighboring
state which resulted in the third Punic War. The Romans ultimately claimed victory
in all three wars which resulted in a large transfer of power. The Roman and
Carthaginian dispute illustrates a change in power, and this caused historians to
question how the Punic Wars affected Roman history. Because the Carthaginians
formed one of the most powerful empires based on trade, the Romans obtained land
and power from the Carthaginians, and as a result, the Romans succeeded in the
Punic Wars which resulted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the first Punic War, the Romans gained Sicily, a strategic island. Additionally,
the Romans assembled their first navy in order to combat the strength of the
Carthaginian navy. Furthermore, the Romans reached the peak of their power as the
Roman Republic from the Punic Wars. With this in mind, the Romans made their
first push for power through the gain of Sicily and Corsica. In 264 B.C, the Romans
defeated the Carthaginians and forced them to evacuate Sicily, and this provided
insight on how the Romans achieved a major gain of power. Upon the Roman
victory, the Carthaginians were defeated and the Romans reduced the term of
payment by one half, added a 1000 talents to the indemnity, and demanded the
evacuation by the Carthaginians of all islands lying between Sicily and
Medieval Universities Essay
Medieval Universities
The appearance of universities was part of the same high medieval education boom.
Originally universities were institutions where students could attain specialized
instruction in advanced studies. These types of studies were not available in the
average cathedral schools. Advanced schools existed in the ancient world, but did not
promote a fixed curricula or award degrees. The term university originally meant a
corporation of guild. All universities were corporations of students or teachers.
Guilds were originally established to protect the interests and rights of the members.
The majority of the universities practiced diverse curriculum ( a few universities did
specialize in medicine or law). A new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is usually done by filling out a questionnaire. At this point in time, the student
has already endured a full term of a professor. If the professor is doing a horrible or
unfair job, the student is forced to endure this without any relief. Not only does this
affect the student s drive to learn, but also his ability to learn. Having a poor
professor hinders the student s learning capabilities. When this happens, the student
has usually forgotten most of what he learned by the end of the term. This makes a
total waste of time and money.
As for medieval times, the student guilds began to have enormous power during
the 13th century. Students could discharge professors that did not meet the
specifications of a good professor. The students only had to refuse to attend the
classes. Professors of this time also had to pledge allegiance to a guild. The guild
would provide the professor s salary. Professors were dependent to the students and
had to receive permission from the students for any changes. Holidays and beginning
and duration time of lectures were decided by the student guilds. With the passage of
time, guilds began to structure the curriculum, and the time duration of each subject.
A fine would be imposed if the professor omitted material or went over the
designated duration time of lectures. The student guilds were kept informed of a
professor s behavior and incompetence and would discipline the professor
Network Security Essay
Network Security
You can think of network security as an insurance policy in a dangerous new world.
In the good old days of centralized processing, is all you had to do was simply lock
the computer room door and restrict entrance access. Those days are long gone in
light of decentralized processing, the internet and vast communi cation networks.
Personal data and transaction security through networks is of paramount concern
when processing through the expanding networks held by government and private
enterprises. Network security in itself refers to a collection of tasks or plans that are

Your medical recordsare another critical information area. From medical records,
not only can wrongdoers get medical information about you but really good tidbits
like psychological problems you re encountered and maybe even your sexual
orientation. Lesser types of juicy intrusions involve trespassing into grocery store
discount card purchases. While this may seem quite minor, it is not. Do you really
want strangers to know all of the huge purchases you ve made of booze and
cigarettes? Do you want people to know you re a boozing smokestack? What about
your credit bureau? Boy, if your credit bureau gets mixed up, that could keep you
from getting a house. It could keep you from a lot of things. Your dreams could fade
away, all because of fraud. Quite clearly, network security in today s information age
is of paramount concern.
THE MANY FACES OF ATTACKS
The first and easiest types of network attacks comes from hackers. Hackers are
people typically using a home computer to gain access to systems they shouldn t be
in and indeed the access is usually illegal. Hackers more and more are hell bent on
obtaining proprietary information, be it on a company or individual. If individ ual
personal information is obtained, that information can be used for a wide array of
identity theft crimes from credit card fraud to bank account fraud. The list could be
almost endless. On the other side, if company proprietary information is ob tained,

Piggy And Savagery
In Lord of the Flies Golding uses Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon to allegorically
depict various people s internal struggle between savagery and civility evil or
good. Ralph is strong and, though he struggles against savagery, he ultimately
remains civilized even when all around him turn into animals. Jack, Ralph s main
antagonist, is weak and gives in to the animal impulses, which in turn pollutes the
rest of society on the island, leaving only Ralph, Piggy, Sam, and Eric as a small
society. Piggy is weak but his logic, reason, and sense of right and wrong is stronger
than most. His death symbolizes the end of logic and reason when bestial instinct
takes over; it is the end of civilization where anarchy reigns. Simon is confused and

He believes that he is not wanted (p. 158) but he likes Ralph... And Piggy, and Jack
(p. 157) and want s them to like him so he tries to act brave to win their favour.
Unfortunately, Simon is not fit, mentally or physically, to survive in this cruel
situation, and because it is the survival of the fittest he dies trying to fit in and
prove himself. Simon symbolizes insecure people in society who are unable to
communicate clearly and collapse under pressure, never really able to stand for
one side or the other, causing neither side to truly embrace them. This parallels one
of Aesop s fables when there is a battle between birds and beasts, the bat is neither
and so he does not join any side; before the battle, peace is made but no one wants to
associate with the bat because he was always in between. Simon is seen by all boys
as batty because he remains to himself and he is very shy. They do not know what to
make of him because he does not seem evil or savage, but he is shy and frail, which
makes all of the boys dislike him
Negative Effects Of Ballet
Each year, people who participate in sports are susceptible to serious injuries.
Though ballet may be a form of art, others consider it to be a sport in which many
dancers also experience serious harms. In correspondence to different sports, ballet
involves challenging skills and constant motions that lead to many types of injuries.
The injuries that occur to ballet dancers can create long term and short term impacts
in their lives. Some impacts it may have on dancers include: stress, eating disorders,
and other mental health issues. In order to reduce the possible injuries of ballet and
the impacts it has on dancers, instructors should limit the amount of exercises

51). Many dance instructors provide tremendous amount of training and exercises
for their students that could benefit them to perfecting their performance. In some
cases, dancers who overdo their trainings and practices are the ones at risk of
injuries. The author, Anna Aalten in In the Presence of the Body: Theorizing
Training, Injuries, and Pain in Ballet , shares her experience when she
[discovered] that pushing her legs until they really hurt would bring her closer to
the desired ideal (61). The idea of perfecting a skill or technique by any dancers
can lead them to overlook any pain they are feeling which can later affect their
body and performance in the long run. Studies show that stress is a consequence of
the environment in which dancers practice ballet everyday, which is a world of no
pain, no gain that is characterized by perfectionism and competition (Yatabe et al.
2). In this case, pain and stress can be further ignored and create a negative impact
on dancers due to perfectionism if instructors do not cut down with their excessive
trainings. Ballet dancers who demand their selves to perfect a skill or technique can
be due to their desire of having the ideal body image. Ballet dancers striving for their
ideal body image can lead them to having many stress
The Influence Of Magic Johnson In Basketball
Most people in the world have an individual that they look up to, someone who they
want to model their life after. For many, parents or celebrities are this individual.
Some children even choose athletes such as NBA players. One of the most influential
people in the basketball world during the time was Magic Johnson. Earvin Magic
Johnson was a 6 9 point guardin the National Basketball Association. With his height
and exceptional ball handling skills for his size, he took the NBA by storm by
posting unbelievable statistics and winning multiple championships with the Los
Angeles Lakers. His championships came by his will to never give up. Magic s
attitude and desire to win played a role to his influence on the people. Along with

Magic changed how the NBA worked by breaking the barrier of bigger players
playing at point guard which is mostly for smaller players. Magic also worked hard
and stayed determined whether it was at basketball or school. Magic defied all
expectations after being drafted as a first round pick and after his announcement
about HIV, he has been a positive public figure for them for years. However, his
affairs with other men during his basketball career, which was his presumed cause
of HIV, put many question marks on his overall character. Magic Johnson sets an
example for people and children today. Despite all of his hardships in life, he did
not give up. Given how easy losing hope is, Magic s character has stayed with him.
Even after getting the announcement that his career is over, he still powers though
all the negatives in life and even came back to the NBA for a period. Magic
Johnson did not only set an example of how kids in modern time should practice
and play basketball, he also set an example for kids by his built character and his
determination and work

Youssef describes five common selection methods; resumes and application forms,
testing, interviews, reference checks, and honesty tests, medical exams and drug
testing. (Youssef, 2012). Two of the most popular methods used in selection are
resumes and application forms, and interviews. With application forms they assist in
gathering basic information about a potential employee such as contact information,
work experience, education, in addition to the applicants signature validating the
information is true and accurate. Resumes are controlled by the potential employee
and may not be completely accurate. Resumes do provide a great method for
obtaining large sums of information and a creating a large pool of potential
candidates with the basic requirements for the position. Resumes have become an
essential filter to trim the pool of candidates to a manageable number. With Resumes
and application forms the process could theoretically only be a paper or electronic
review without ever meeting with the applicant. With interviews they are normally
conducted face to face or in certain circumstances by telephone or over the internet in
a streaming video chat. The interview can evaluate the potential employees
communications skills, interpersonal skills and his or her technical experience and
knowledge. This, according to Youssef, is one of the most commonly used selection
tools in employment. (Youssef,
Assumptions In The Film Atonement By Joe Wright
Assumptions are necessary for us to function as humans, if we did not make
assumptions we would have died out as a species long ago. In the film Atonement ,
director Joe Wright tells the story of a young Briony who has chosen to tell a
terrible lie, one that will forever disconnect her from her sister, her happiness, and
herself. This text begs the question of assumptions; why we need to understand them,
why we need to know when to admit they are wrong, and why we need to be able to
acceptthe consequences of them. The topic and overall meaning that this idea holds
conveys a message that resonates with the idea that assumptions are sometimes a
major factor in how individuals go about taking responsibilityfor themselves. Until an
individual can take responsibility for the actions resulting from their own assumed
reality, their attempts to take responsibility for themselves will ultimately fail.
If an individual s assumption is forced to fit into reality, that may give them the
obligation and personal responsibility to reshape reality to fit their assumptions. As a
thirteen year old Briony was a very curious girl, but she was interested more
specifically in the nature of adults. There is a scene that Briony observes, where
Cecilia and Robbie are arguing next to a fountain, and then Cecilia jumps into the
fountain as Robbie watches. Although Briony watches the events out of curiosity, she
does not grasp the understanding of why the adults act the way they do,

Innovation Placement Of A Good Or Service Into The
Market...
Innovation placement of a good or service into the market that patrons can buy
(Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 371). There are 2 types of innovation that a firm can
experience which include incremental and breakthrough. It s important of
organizations and leaders to aware of the associated differences and risks involved as
one fuels the other. The following essay will discuss the aforementioned
characteristics. There are a few difference between the innovation types. First,
incremental innovation is the act of making small, simple changes to products,
services or processes, whereas, breakthrough innovation is an out of the ordinary
development that create a new product or market (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 371).
Typically, incremental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another difference is that incremental innovation is discovered on the demand side
of the value chain, whereas, breakthrough is created on the supply side (Marshall,
2013). This is because incremental innovation is a response to customer needs or
wants as they are already familiar with the product, hence, the demand sparks the
supply side of the value chain. There are a few risks associated with both incremental
and breakthrough innovation. With incremental innovation, lack of coordination and
time, lack of trained employees, not choosing the correct ideas, not enough customer
insight, poor planning, and incentives are not tied to innovation, and support not
given to employees by management could cause the innovation process to be
unsuccessful (Kadareja, 2013). In my opinion, these risk could be minimized because
the company has the most control over these risks. For instance, a company can train
/ hire knowledgeable individuals, as well as, support and incentivizes employees. On
the other hand, breakthrough innovation are not as manageable in my opinion. These
risks include: availability of and high development cost, unknown demand in the
market, economic risk, long development times, competitive pressure or market is
dominated by an existing business, copy right issues, and ability to meet regulatory
statutes (Kadareja, 2013). For
History Quote Analysis
History is events that happened in the past to impact the world. Anyone can make
history, but the events of that history have no impact unless one writes the history
down. The quote Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it explains
how history is truly made. The quote means that any person, no matter how
uneducated they are can make history, but it takes a highly educated person to make
history and make the event known. Anyone can make history because history is the
events that happened. For example, one can make history by eating an apple, but
that won t be known because eating an apple isn t a significant event to the world.

History also helps prepare one to face the future, so one does not repeat the same
mistakes. The quote History cannot give us a program for the future, but it can
give us a fuller understanding of ourselves and of our common humanity, so that
we can better face the future explains that history is not something one can
program and plan out. History is information of events of what happened such as,
how one s background and places came to be, so one does not have to question life
and the world. History also helps one by revealing important information that can be
used to help improve the future. For example, 9/11 was a terrible event that had
happened in 2001. People use that piece of information and make a better future.
After the event, the security of airports and the military was improved drastically to
prevent the mistakes from happening again. If the same mistake were to happened
again, money and time would be wasted to recover the damages and many people
will lose their lives. The quote means one cannot program and plan out history for the
future, but history can be used as information to understand the world and improve the
What Is Ray Bradbury s Depiction Realistic
In the book Fahrenheit 451, the citizens stopped reading and showed disinterest in
books. In response, the government began to censor everything and issued the
tragedy of burning books. Firemen across the nation answer the call of discovered
books in a home. Is this possible today and is Ray Bradbury s depiction realistic?
Could this total apathy in books happen? The society of Fahrenheit 451completely
abandoned literature without thinking about the consequences or effects of doing so.
In our society today, books such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and
The Grapes of Wrath have been put on the Banned Book List all across America. To
Kill a Mockingbird is banned because it is profane and racist work that promotes
white supremacy.

Now before it was mentioned that a strength the commercial had was the fact that
it was aired during the 2011 Super Bowl but at the same time tat was also a
weakness. Now the commercials during the Super Bowl get a lot of popularity but
they do not get much screen time for 2 major reasons. The first being it costs
millions of dollars to get a commercial to air during the Super Bowl and second,
many other companies want to get a commercial to air also so the time has to be
split evenly. Little screen time means sacrificing vital information for the
commercial. In other words, the commercial was good at making itself memorable
and fun to watch but it did not display many features or specifications about the car
that are important when someone is in the market to buy a car. The only feature
Volkswagen showed was the fact that you could click a button on your keychain to
turn the car on. That feature is not important when it comes to the safety of the
vehicle or how many miles to the gallon the car has. If people did not care about
the specifications then there would be no competition in the car industry other
than to make a car as fancy looking as possible. Another weakness the commercial
displayed was not giving a good price point for the car. The commercial said prices
starting at $20,000, which to begin is a bit high to begin at for a 4 door sedan.
Also, what would make the price higher? This brings viewers back to the specifics of
the car that the commercial doesn t tell
The, 12 Angry Men, And Nasa s Challenger Disaster
Speak your mind even if your voice shakes , a quote made famous by Maggie
Kuhn, is the foundation of how I conduct my life. While the fundamentals of being
an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the
opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people
become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term
that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and
NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink.
Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding
both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink
on today s voting young adults.
In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case
being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty
verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went
around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As
the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to
justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect
of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and
angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other
jurors had with one another displayed a positive aspect

The method of bioremediation being used in this paper is by mixing bioaugmentation
which is when the subsurface of contaminated soil or groundwater have specific
cultured organisms added to allow the process of biodegrading to occur (Regenesis,

nutrient added to enhance microbial growth within the contaminated source (Adams,

the soil helps to meditate and clean the contaminants within the soil or groundwater
(Fiedler, 2017).
The 3 main goals of this experiment were to measure the efficiency of the petroleum
degradation, look at the microbial activity and communities and figure out the impact
bioremediation may have on them (Manli Wu, 2017). Lastly, to consider the removal
of petroleum hydrocarbons and how that will impact the shifts of microbial
communities (Manli Wu, 2017).

because of the drugs that the farmers are using, at the end it will affect humans
beings that have either consumed or inhaled; and it will be corrupting the whole
agriculture industry which could ve been prevented.
B. Drug History A little bit of history of how marijuana began to go high in
demand. Marijuana was one of the first drugs that became popular. In 1616 tobacco
was known as the expert item because of Jamestown. Spaniards found the natives in
the West Indies using the tobacco plant. The spaniards then took some of the tobacco
seeds to Europe, which then ended up spreading to other countries and around the
Mediterranean Sea. The person who discovered this was, John Rolfe. He then began
to do a test trial
Free Trade Agreements And The Trade Agreement
Free trade agreements are established around the world by countries to limit
restrictions on trade and investment in hope of benefiting both countries economies.
A free trade agreement removes barriers to trade eliminating most quotas and
removing tariffs on goods and services that can be exported or imported. Many free
tradeagreements also remove other barriers to trade, like property protection or
restrictions on foreign service provider s industry. China a growing superpower, has
the largest population in the world and has numerous free trade agreements with
different countries. China has a free trade agreement with Australia established in
2014 and with New Zealand established in 2008. Free trade agreements help Chinese
businesses by attracting investment from Australian markets. Free trade agreements
increase export markets for China and lower costs of imports into China.
a.Tariffs
A tariff is a tax on the import of goods and services brought into the country. free
trade agreements are created to lower or remove of tariffs on the trading of goods
and services. The tax may vary from a few percent of the value, to well over 100%
of the value of the item depending on its demand and rarity. This tax is carried
down to consumers, resulting in higher prices for these imported goods. Tariffs are
place to protect domestic businesses that are seen as valuable to the economy. For
example, The United States enacted a tariff of 8 30% on steel to protect the
American steel
Stigmatization Of Mental Depression
Many people believe that while mental illness exists in the world today, depression
is not included and is rather just another form of long term moodiness. Because of
this perspective that societies share, depression has become a bigger problem than it
needs to be.
Mayoclinic.org (2015) defines depression as a mood disorder that causes a persistent
feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or
clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a
variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal
day to day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn t worth living. It also
states that it is not a weakness and that it can be long term.
One of the leading problems regarding Depression that increases the problem and
ruins the chances of treatment is that people around the world assume that it is a case
of moodiness rather than a medical problem that needs specific treatment.
Self Stigmatization of those dealing with depression is another issue that prolongs it;
this affects how it is dealt with. Depressed people see that their illness as a shameful
and appalling thing and often hide it to protect themselves from being judged by
others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This form of depression is one of the most complex because how are people

Cyber Attacks And The Internet
The terms hacker and hacking are often associated with malicious cyber attacks
carried out by no name specters wandering around in cyberspace. These people
intentionally create virtual chaos for anyone or any computer connected to the
internet (global network). Such activities range from causing system errors program
crashes, lockups, and system shutdowns to intrusion attempts to gain access to
private information or data, and even to steal personal funds. A decent hackercan gain
total control over a user s PC while it s in use. Generally, hackers disrupt the flow of
normal everyday life by manipulating security codes, capitalizing on security
vulnerabilities to take advantage of many computerusers, private networks, and...

It is a shadowy task but it is performed only to better protect consumer s physical and
virtual property.
A majority consensus views hackers as evil people who do nothing by play around in
computers all day to improve their intrusion techniques in order to steal money,
information, and cripple computer systems for various reasons. Based on the second
paragraph of this paper, the consensus is somewhat flawed. The confusion stems from
the definition of hacker and how they have been perceived. Hacking was originally
defined as the production of furniture with the use of an axe, but MIT (Massachusetts
Institute of Technology the origination of the replacement term hacker) define it as
students who pulled pranks with the use of a computer. In 1963, a group of MIT
students tied up phone lines from both the MIT and Harvard Campuses, turning lines
inactive and using available lines to make long distance phone calls that carried hefty
phone charges. This was the first instance of the term being applied to the young, and
rising profession of hacking. It has since then been in permanent use due to the
evolutional path of hacking the aspect that was widely publicized.
In 1983, the 414s, a group of 6 computer hackers, broke into Sloan Kettering Cancer
Center computer systems and deleted a number of patient billing information. They,
again, broke in Los Alamos National Laboratory known for its research in nuclear
technologies. The leader Neal Patrick earned a reputable
Epigenetic Modifications
INTRODUCTION
Epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation and histone modifications are
widely considered to be important in controlling the differentiation of cells. However
some argue that since these mechanisms are not seen or transient in model organisms
such as worms and flies that epigenetics cannot be important. However it is also
important to mention that there are very different definitions of the word epigenetics
formed from independent reasoning which may affect the debate on whether
epigenetics is important or not in controlling cell differentiation. (Berger et al.,
2009)For example, to Conrad Waddington, it was the study of epigenesist ie. How

In the first cell division these transcription factors are distributed asymmetrically to
the daughter cells. Then, and in subsequent cell generations, new patterns of gene
expression arise in two ways: as a matter of course (some transcription factors
activating expression of genes encoding other regulatory proteins, etc.), and in
response to signals sent by other cells. Signalling used in development affects
expression of genes encoding yet more transcription factors it does so by changing
activities of transcription factors, already present, which target those genes. Retinoic
acid and growth hormone are examples of such signalling molecules. (Ptashne, 2013)
There are two things we need to keep in mind when we talk about cell
differentiation. These are specificity and memory. Transcription regulators work
specifically. They activate one gene or set of genes and not another. Therefore, for
many regulators and genes, any regulator will work on any gene as determined by the
locations of its affined cis regulatory sequence. (Ptashne,
The Questions Surrounding The Neanderthal Extinction
While it is important to understand the significance of each hypothesis, the questions
surrounding the Neanderthal extinction takes on assorted factors that are not
mutually exclusive. Numerous studies have been conducted focusing exclusively on
climate, competition or disease as a function of Neanderthal extinction. However,
conflicting conclusion suggest that there are several factors involved that overlap and
/ or arising from one another. This paper will attempt to better understand how
climate, competition, and disease might operate together to account for Neanderthal
extinction. First by summarizing each argument of the three arguments and
identifying the potential implications for father research. Secondly, aim to develop a
framework that will include the most relevant hypothesis.
Climatic Extinction
Hypothesis supporting climate change as a factor in Neanderthal extinction has taken
on two forms Neanderthals inability to adapt to harsh environments and prey
extinction. Traditionally, Neanderthal extinction has been contributed to sudden
climate change in which the species was unable to adapt (Houldcroft Underdown
2015). Despite the fact that Neanderthal fossil exhibit ecomorphological
characteristics that suggest they were adapted to colder ice age environments; there
is considerable evidence that supports the hypothesis that climatic changes are
responsible for their sudden disappearance (Rae et al 2011; Stewart 2005).
Neanderthal species were unlike any
Effectiveness Of The Treatment Before And After The...
To analyze the effectiveness of the treatment before and after the surgical
revascularization intervention procedures in PAD patients who may have
microvascular dysfunction, we studied the change in oxygen concentration at the
walls of capillaries.
Oxygen transfer in a vascular network that is essential for the tissue metabolism
takes place at the level of microvasculature and capillaries through convection and
diffusion. Oxygen delivery or convective flow of oxygen to the capillaries and
oxygen extraction or diffusive transport of oxygen from hemoglobin (Hb) to tissue
cells are the two limiting factors associated with oxygen transfer in a vascular
network (Pittman, 2000).
In order to quantify the transfer rate of oxygen from capillaries to the surrounding
tissues, micro circulation in the vascular network was modeled in a virtual simulation
software using the chemical reaction module. Two mechanisms associated with the
oxygen transfer; oxygen from the blood is transferred to the inner wall through
convection and from inner capillary wall to the surrounding tissue via diffusion
phenomena, are shown in Figure 1.
Microcirculation includes both delivery and extraction that is governed by the
equation from Fick s Principle (conservation of mass).

How Do Preemie Diapers
Pampers are the number one selling diaper brand. They now introduced the
preemie diaper in 2002. Preemie diapers were specifically tailored for premature
babies at the lowest of one to two pounds. The creator, Susan Ludwig s inspiration
behind it all was after the birth of her third child. At the time, she was rooming with
another mother who had premature baby and felt lost and heartbroken. Seeing this
woman in distress gave her the idea of this type of diaper, after all, preemie babies are
the most delicate and most fragile. ( Pampers1). After asking many nurses to critique
on the diaper they currently use; they had finally come up with the perfect diaper (

Arthur Mitchell had a policy that his company would not turn down anyone for any

Arthur Mitchell challenges preconceived ideas about dance by meddling with

consider that you have mentioned in detail the key variables; furthermore, the
formulation of your hypothesis is specific and can be measurable. In your study
you propose to expose participants to sleep deprivation for 30 days. This could be

Progressives versus Populists
The onset 20th Century holds two main movements: The Populists and The
Progressives. These two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold
diversities. The Populists party comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south;
they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The Populists also call for
government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which includes a
flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and
men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals
through legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as
well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the
Populist Party; they weren t contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The
Populist party held picnics in order to present discussions, while the Progressives
hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were much more formal.
The Populist Party was the people s party, hence the name Populist, the party was
created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the
head of The Knights of Labor. The party s first platform was called the Omaha

Analysis Of Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows ( 1959 )...
The French New Wave, or Nouvelle Vague, is among the most revolutionary film
eras in the history of cinema. Spurred as a result of major shifts in economic, social
and technological norms within post WW11 France, the New Wave conceived a
renewed mode of expression across various creative industries. Francois Truffaut s
The 400 Blows(1959) and Jean Luc Godard s Breathless (1960) are two films, which
despite major disparities, would go on to exemplify integral characteristics of the
movement in the following years. Perhaps, the best way to truly appreciate the fervor
of New Wave cinema is to examine the context of its inception. Both the stylistic and
thematic qualities of French New Waveworks directly reflect the implicit values,
virtues and vices possessed by the emerging youth culture of the late 1950s, which
consequently posed a fundamental challenge to the institutions, ideas and attitudes of
the past.
To fully comprehend why and how this cinematic motion took place, it is valuable
here to establish the wider social climate of France at the time, and the active
forces which heavily shaped New Wave cinema. Between the years of 1945 and
1975, France would undergo thirty glorious years of economic growth, urbanization,
and a considerable baby boom, all of which came to expand and radically alter the
parameters of French culture (Haine 33). Beneath the surface affluence however,
France was in a state of deep self evaluation and consciousness. Following WW11, the
Linguists Mixed On Effects Of Text Messaging On Students
Smartphones are influencing the behaviors and the way of thinking of users
worldwide. Language, for example, is affected by smartphones due to text messaging.
A user s writing and speech can be changed because of the usage of abbreviated words
and shortcuts. Specifically, text messaging impacts students in the classroom because
it establishes a trend, enforces disorganized thoughts in written communication, and
the use of word abbreviations and shortcuts are used in a daily basis. Text messaging
creates a craze in a specific way of using communication in writing and in speech. It
establishes lingos that should not be used in one s academic life. As stated by Naomi

Randolph Hearst Case Study
Part B: i) Describe the rise to prominence of William Randolph Hearst
William Randolph Hearst was an influential figure in the late 19th and early 20th
century through his domination of the American media for almost half a century.
Through his use of sensationalistic and yellow journalism, Hearst successfully built
his news corporation, Hearst Communications, which at its height of prevalence
owned over 30 American newspapers, 18 magazines and several radio stations.
William Randolph Hearst s privileged upper class upbringing was a significant
influence and factor in his rise to prominence in the American media during the late
19th and early 20th century. Before being expelled, Hearst was inspired by Joseph
Pulitzer s New York World newspaperand worked as an editor for the Harvard
Lampoon at Harvard university. At age 24, his multimillionaire father bestowed
his failing San Francisco Examiner newspaper to him in hope that it would reform
his delinquent behaviours. The social problems of the Gilded Age (1870s 1900)
created a social dynamic in the American public which Hearst was able to
successfully build his newspaper the San Francisco Examiner into the most widely
read newspaper in San Francisco. He adopted a sensational brand of reporting, which
later was referred to as yellow journalism which used hyperbolic and misinformed
speculations and half truths which headlined the front page of the paper. Through his
use of sensationalistic and yellow journalism William
Gender Bias Essay
Gender bias, also known as sexism, is a full of attitudes, laws, taboos, preferences,
and behaviors that differentiates and discriminates against either sex. These may
be a position of which male dominance and female subjugation in the modern
society. It could also be a form of sexual stereotypes between men and women,
these are commonly experienced in employment versus other positions. A final
place that discrimination is faced is the academic environment, the female to male
ratios are not in sync in certain programs and courses because of this and it is
pressuring men and women to not go into certain fields and do what they love and
please. Most advertisements on Television, magazines, newspapers, online ad s,
use a charged sexually image with a female as the star. Women are to be a pleasure
for men, and nothing else. Many people have different opinions on genders and
sexuality and that is okay, but sometimes you just need to keep them to yourselves.

part in the outing program which meant that she was sent into a local white

enthusiastic about the program and the servitude; however she did like the sewing
classes and needlework that the school offered as part of the domestic training. She
learned how to sew quilts and pillowcases for members of her own family. One of her
grandmother s fondest memories was of the other students at the school many of

increased amount of residents and therefore new recreational areas and shops for
clothing, food and eating out would be established to account for the new
populations able to live in Nundah as a result of the residential developments. The
residential developments would accommodate for the growing population that
increases by 3% per year. However, negatively proposal two is not beneficial, as
the development only accounts for a wealthy businessperson demographic

of residents in Nundah would increase traffic and congestion as a result of not
having anywhere to park. Nundah would become overcrowded as a result and the

horizon , where time appears to slow to an outside observer. See Figure 1 to view
the parts of a black hole. Eventually during formation, time will stop, the star will
not collapse anymore, and it will be frozen. To an outside observer, an object that
reaches the event horizon and falls into a black hole would appear to never fully
go in. This is because of the process called Spaghettification , which explains that if
a human were to fall in, the force of gravity of their feet would be millions of times
greater than the force on their head, so in a literal sense, they would stretch out
and become flat before going in. It would literally appear to be an illusion because
to the human falling in, time passes normally, yet slows for an outside observer.
Time was discovered to slow near black holes when it was observed that light
curves and bends when nearing a black hole. The only way to explain this bend is
with Einstein s theory of general relativity and his concept of space time. Space time
is the idea that space is actually a fabric that is warped by gravity. Einstein concluded
that space and time cannot be effected without
Marble Flooring
Tile, stone and marble flooring is breathtaking in most homes and adds an element
of elegance and earthiness that would otherwise be lost with carpet or linoleum.
However, in the busy world of today, many people are far too busy working, having
families or participating in other hobbies and activities to spend hours a week
scrubbing your floor on their hands and knees. This is where the glory of cleaning
services come in. But which ones do you choose and which do you avoid? How do
you know they know what they re doing, and what kind of services should you sign
up for? These questions and so many more are the very reason that some people
avoid calling a professional when that is the first thing they should be doing to
avoid damage and elongate the life of their tile or stone. In order to understand
what kind of services you should look into you first need to understand what kind
of cleaning your type of flooring requires: * Marble floors are usually offered deep
cleanings, scratch removal, polishing and slippage removal for added traction. *
Brick tiles will need tile stripping or deep cleaning. * Travertine requires deep
cleaning, travertine honing, scratch removal, hole... Show more content on

In this case, the internet is an invaluable resource that you should not hesitate to
use in every way humanly possible. Researching the company for unbiased
reviews, services, pricing and even looking at its better business bureau rating and
any listed complaints will help you decide on just how professional and reliable
various companies are. Another option is simply to ask your friends what kind of
services they have used in the past and their experiences with them; they may even
be able to get you the name of a specific worker who has worked with them in the
past, or help with a discount if they re reliable customers with the
Psych Class Observation
The person that I decided to observed was someone that I did not know too well,
her name is Maggie and she is in my biology class. Since, I have only known her
for a few weeks and she is not in my psych class, I figured she would be the ideal
person that I should observe because she would not be familiar with what I was
doing. I was waiting in the hallway for my biology class to start when I noticed
Maggie outside the building. Maggie pulls the door open with her dominant hand;
the door swings open and hits the wall. She rushes inside the building before the
door can close. As Maggie makes it inside the building without the door slamming
right into her, she speed walks in front of this couple. Maggie approaches me and the

  • 2. The Power Of The Punic Wars As one of the strongest maritime armies of their time, the Carthaginians controlled land that the Romans wanted. Thus, the Punic Wars spanned over a century between Rome and Carthage. The Romans initiated the first Punic War in Sicily, Hannibal declared war on Rome which marked the start of the second Punic War. The Carthaginians broke their treaty with Rome when they declared war on a neighboring state which resulted in the third Punic War. The Romans ultimately claimed victory in all three wars which resulted in a large transfer of power. The Roman and Carthaginian dispute illustrates a change in power, and this caused historians to question how the Punic Wars affected Roman history. Because the Carthaginians formed one of the most powerful empires based on trade, the Romans obtained land and power from the Carthaginians, and as a result, the Romans succeeded in the Punic Wars which resulted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the first Punic War, the Romans gained Sicily, a strategic island. Additionally, the Romans assembled their first navy in order to combat the strength of the Carthaginian navy. Furthermore, the Romans reached the peak of their power as the Roman Republic from the Punic Wars. With this in mind, the Romans made their first push for power through the gain of Sicily and Corsica. In 264 B.C, the Romans defeated the Carthaginians and forced them to evacuate Sicily, and this provided insight on how the Romans achieved a major gain of power. Upon the Roman victory, the Carthaginians were defeated and the Romans reduced the term of payment by one half, added a 1000 talents to the indemnity, and demanded the evacuation by the Carthaginians of all islands lying between Sicily and
  • 3. Medieval Universities Essay Medieval Universities The appearance of universities was part of the same high medieval education boom. Originally universities were institutions where students could attain specialized instruction in advanced studies. These types of studies were not available in the average cathedral schools. Advanced schools existed in the ancient world, but did not promote a fixed curricula or award degrees. The term university originally meant a corporation of guild. All universities were corporations of students or teachers. Guilds were originally established to protect the interests and rights of the members. The majority of the universities practiced diverse curriculum ( a few universities did specialize in medicine or law). A new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is usually done by filling out a questionnaire. At this point in time, the student has already endured a full term of a professor. If the professor is doing a horrible or unfair job, the student is forced to endure this without any relief. Not only does this affect the student s drive to learn, but also his ability to learn. Having a poor professor hinders the student s learning capabilities. When this happens, the student has usually forgotten most of what he learned by the end of the term. This makes a total waste of time and money. As for medieval times, the student guilds began to have enormous power during the 13th century. Students could discharge professors that did not meet the specifications of a good professor. The students only had to refuse to attend the classes. Professors of this time also had to pledge allegiance to a guild. The guild would provide the professor s salary. Professors were dependent to the students and had to receive permission from the students for any changes. Holidays and beginning and duration time of lectures were decided by the student guilds. With the passage of time, guilds began to structure the curriculum, and the time duration of each subject. A fine would be imposed if the professor omitted material or went over the designated duration time of lectures. The student guilds were kept informed of a professor s behavior and incompetence and would discipline the professor

In the good old days of centralized processing, is all you had to do was simply lock the computer room door and restrict entrance access. Those days are long gone in light of decentralized processing, the internet and vast communi cation networks. Personal data and transaction security through networks is of paramount concern when processing through the expanding networks held by government and private enterprises. Network security in itself refers to a collection of tasks or plans that are implemented to ensure data privacy. From medical records, not only can wrongdoers get medical information about you but really good tidbits like psychological problems you re encountered and maybe even your sexual orientation. Lesser types of juicy intrusions involve trespassing into grocery store discount card purchases. While this may seem quite minor, it is not. Do you really want strangers to know all of the huge purchases you ve made of booze and cigarettes? Do you want people to know you re a boozing smokestack? What about your credit bureau? Boy, if your credit bureau gets mixed up, that could keep you from getting a house. It could keep you from a lot of things. Your dreams could fade away, all because of fraud. Quite clearly, network security in today s information age is of paramount concern. THE MANY FACES OF ATTACKS The first and easiest types of network attacks comes from hackers. Hackers are people typically using a home computer to gain access to systems they shouldn t be in and indeed the access is usually illegal. Hackers more and more are hell bent on obtaining proprietary information, be it on a company or individual. If individ ual personal information is obtained, that information can be used for a wide array of identity theft crimes from credit card fraud to bank account fraud. The list could be almost endless. Jack, Ralph s main antagonist, is weak and gives in to the animal impulses, which in turn pollutes the rest of society on the island, leaving only Ralph, Piggy, Sam, and Eric as a small society. Piggy is weak but his logic, reason, and sense of right and wrong is stronger than most. Simon symbolizes insecure people in society who are unable to communicate clearly and collapse under pressure, never really able to stand for one side or the other, causing neither side to truly embrace them. This parallels one of Aesop s fables when there is a battle between birds and beasts, the bat is neither and so he does not join any side; before the battle, peace is made but no one wants to associate with the bat because he was always in between. In some cases, dancers who overdo their trainings and practices are the ones at risk of injuries. The author, Anna Aalten in In the Presence of the Body: Theorizing Training, Injuries, and Pain in Ballet , shares her experience when she [discovered] that pushing her legs until they really hurt would bring her closer to the desired ideal (61). The idea of perfecting a skill or technique by any dancers can lead them to overlook any pain they are feeling which can later affect their body and performance in the long run. Studies show that stress is a consequence of the environment in which dancers practice ballet everyday, which is a world of no pain, no gain that is characterized by perfectionism and competition (Yatabe et al. 2). In this case, pain and stress can be further ignored and create a negative impact on dancers due to perfectionism if instructors do not cut down with their excessive trainings. Ballet dancers who demand their selves to perfect a skill or technique can be due to their desire of having the ideal body image. In the film Atonement , director Joe Wright tells the story of a young Briony who has chosen to tell a terrible lie, one that will forever disconnect her from her sister, her happiness, and herself. This text begs the question of assumptions; why we need to understand them, why we need to know when to admit they are wrong, and why we need to be able to acceptthe consequences of them. The topic and overall meaning that this idea holds conveys a message that resonates with the idea that assumptions are sometimes a major factor in how individuals go about taking responsibilityfor themselves. Until an individual can take responsibility for the actions resulting from their own assumed reality, their attempts to take responsibility for themselves will ultimately fail. If an individual s assumption is forced to fit into reality, that may give them the obligation and personal responsibility to reshape reality to fit their assumptions. As a thirteen year old Briony was a very curious girl, but she was interested more specifically in the nature of adults. There is a scene that Briony observes, where Cecilia and Robbie are arguing next to a fountain, and then Cecilia jumps into the fountain as Robbie watches. Although Briony watches the events out of curiosity, she does not grasp the understanding of why the adults act the way they do,

There are 2 types of innovation that a firm can experience which include incremental and breakthrough. It s important of organizations and leaders to aware of the associated differences and risks involved as one fuels the other. The following essay will discuss the aforementioned characteristics. There are a few difference between the innovation types. Another difference is that incremental innovation is discovered on the demand side of the value chain, whereas, breakthrough is created on the supply side (Marshall, 2013). This is because incremental innovation is a response to customer needs or wants as they are already familiar with the product, hence, the demand sparks the supply side of the value chain. There are a few risks associated with both incremental and breakthrough innovation. With incremental innovation, lack of coordination and time, lack of trained employees, not choosing the correct ideas, not enough customer insight, poor planning, and incentives are not tied to innovation, and support not given to employees by management could cause the innovation process to be unsuccessful (Kadareja, 2013). In my opinion, these risk could be minimized because the company has the most control over these risks. For instance, a company can train / hire knowledgeable individuals, as well as, support and incentivizes employees. On the other hand, breakthrough innovation are not as manageable in my opinion. These risks include: availability of and high development cost, unknown demand in the market, economic risk, long development times, competitive pressure or market is dominated by an existing business, copy right issues, and ability to meet regulatory statutes (Kadareja, 2013). Now before it was mentioned that a strength the commercial had was the fact that it was aired during the 2011 Super Bowl but at the same time tat was also a weakness. Now the commercials during the Super Bowl get a lot of popularity but they do not get much screen time for 2 major reasons. The first being it costs millions of dollars to get a commercial to air during the Super Bowl and second, many other companies want to get a commercial to air also so the time has to be split evenly. Little screen time means sacrificing vital information for the commercial. In other words, the commercial was good at making itself memorable and fun to watch but it did not display many features or specifications about the car that are important when someone is in the market to buy a car. The only feature Volkswagen showed was the fact that you could click a button on your keychain to turn the car on. That feature is not important when it comes to the safety of the vehicle or how many miles to the gallon the car has. If people did not care about the specifications then there would be no competition in the car industry other than to make a car as fancy looking as possible. To analyze the effectiveness of the treatment before and after the surgical revascularization intervention procedures in PAD patients who may have microvascular dysfunction, we studied the change in oxygen concentration at the walls of capillaries. Oxygen transfer in a vascular network that is essential for the tissue metabolism takes place at the level of microvasculature and capillaries through convection and diffusion. Oxygen delivery or convective flow of oxygen to the capillaries and oxygen extraction or diffusive transport of oxygen from hemoglobin (Hb) to tissue cells are the two limiting factors associated with oxygen transfer in a vascular network (Pittman, 2000). In order to quantify the transfer rate of oxygen from capillaries to the surrounding tissues, micro circulation in the vascular network was modeled in a virtual simulation software using the chemical reaction module. Two mechanisms associated with the oxygen transfer; oxygen from the blood is transferred to the inner wall through convection and from inner capillary wall to the surrounding tissue via diffusion phenomena, are shown in Figure 1. Microcirculation includes both delivery and extraction that is governed by the equation from Fick s Principle (conservation of mass). гЂ–Q_(O_2 )гЂ—^Diff= гЂ–Q_(O_2 )гЂ—^Conv (upstream) гЂ–Q_(O_2 )гЂ—^Conv (downstream)Equation 1 The inflow would be the blood pumped from the heart through arterioles and incoming flux of blood flow releases the blood cells with Hb

Preemie diapers were specifically tailored for premature babies at the lowest of one to two pounds. The creator, Susan Ludwig s inspiration behind it all was after the birth of her third child. At the time, she was rooming with another mother who had premature baby and felt lost and heartbroken. Seeing this woman in distress gave her the idea of this type of diaper, after all, preemie babies are the most delicate and most fragile. ( Pampers1). After asking many nurses to critique on the diaper they currently use; they had finally come up with the perfect diaper ( Pampers 1). • 35. Analysis Of Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows ( 1959 )... The French New Wave, or Nouvelle Vague, is among the most revolutionary film eras in the history of cinema. Spurred as a result of major shifts in economic, social and technological norms within post WW11 France, the New Wave conceived a renewed mode of expression across various creative industries. Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows(1959) and Jean Luc Godard s Breathless (1960) are two films, which despite major disparities, would go on to exemplify integral characteristics of the movement in the following years. Perhaps, the best way to truly appreciate the fervor of New Wave cinema is to examine the context of its inception. Both the stylistic and thematic qualities of French New Waveworks directly reflect the implicit values, virtues and vices possessed by the emerging youth culture of the late 1950s, which consequently posed a fundamental challenge to the institutions, ideas and attitudes of the past. To fully comprehend why and how this cinematic motion took place, it is valuable here to establish the wider social climate of France at the time, and the active forces which heavily shaped New Wave cinema. Between the years of 1945 and 1975, France would undergo thirty glorious years of economic growth, urbanization, and a considerable baby boom, all of which came to expand and radically alter the parameters of French culture (Haine 33). Beneath the surface affluence however, France was in a state of deep self evaluation and consciousness. Following WW11, the

Through his use of sensationalistic and yellow journalism, Hearst successfully built his news corporation, Hearst Communications, which at its height of prevalence owned over 30 American newspapers, 18 magazines and several radio stations. Before being expelled, Hearst was inspired by Joseph Pulitzer s New York World newspaperand worked as an editor for the Harvard Lampoon at Harvard university. At age 24, his multimillionaire father bestowed his failing San Francisco Examiner newspaper to him in hope that it would reform his delinquent behaviours. The social problems of the Gilded Age (1870s 1900) created a social dynamic in the American public which Hearst was able to successfully build his newspaper the San Francisco Examiner into the most widely read newspaper in San Francisco. Immense amounts of energy are released during formations, and it is at the center of a black hole, its singularity, that the laws of physics break down. As claimed by NASA, during each formation of a black hole, the black hole will reach an event horizon , where time appears to slow to an outside observer. See Figure 1 to view the parts of a black hole. Eventually during formation, time will stop, the star will not collapse anymore, and it will be frozen. To an outside observer, an object that reaches the event horizon and falls into a black hole would appear to never fully go in. This is because of the process called Spaghettification , which explains that if a human were to fall in, the force of gravity of their feet would be millions of times greater than the force on their head, so in a literal sense, they would stretch out and become flat before going in. It would literally appear to be an illusion because to the human falling in, time passes normally, yet slows for an outside observer. Time was discovered to slow near black holes when it was observed that light curves and bends when nearing a black hole. The only way to explain this bend is with Einstein s theory of general relativity and his concept of space time. Space time is the idea that space is actually a fabric that is warped by gravity. Einstein concluded that space and time cannot be effected without
