This document presents information on switched mode power supplies (SMPS). It begins with an introduction defining SMPS as power supplies that use switching regulators to efficiently convert power. The objectives and methodology of the presentation are then outlined. Key components of an SMPS like the rectifier, transformer, error amplifier, and PWM driver are described along with their functions. Common SMPS topologies are discussed and applications listed. Advantages of SMPS like smaller size and higher efficiency are highlighted before concluding with references.
