Impacts Of Confucianism
Events in our world s history, large and small, have had major impacts in the development of many
inventions, ideas, philosophies and organized religions. The development of the Chinese philosophy
of Confucianism and the ancient religion of Judaism were directly influenced by historical events.
Confucianism is a philosophy based on the ideas of Kung Fu Tzu, also known as Confucius, and
spread during the Warring States Periods. Judaism is a monotheistic religion founded by Abraham
around 3500 years ago. Specific historical events played very important roles in the development of
both of these faiths. For Confucianism, the Warring States Period led to the advancement of the
philosophy while the Abrahamic Covenant, as well as the parting of the ... Show more content on

The Exodus was when the enslaved Hebrews fled the enslavement of the Pharaoh with Moses as their
leader. The Hebrews were then cornered by the Pharaoh s army with the Red Sea behind them and the
Hebrews started thinking that God was not on their side and would not help them. God then claimed to
always protect the Hebrews and fulfilled his promise by parting the Red Sea for the Hebrews to pass
escaping the Pharaoh and the Egyptian Army. Once the Hebrews had passed the Sea, YHWH closed
the path on the Egyptian soldiers allowing the Hebrews to escape. This specific historical event
drastically contributed to the development and spread in the Judaism faith. This made the Hebrews
faithful to YHWH and gained many supports for the

Daniel James Brown s The Boys In The Boat
The Boys in The Boat opens up with the author, Daniel James Brown traveling to Joe Rantz house to
speak to him about one of the books that the author had written. At this point in the story the author is
in a mountainous location. Later on in the book the reader learns that Joe picked up a fondness for
wood, more of an appreciation if anything. So the reader can conclude that Joe had decided to live in a
forested area because he likes trees. The book then jumps backwards to 1933 in Seattle, Washington.
The author sets up the atmosphere and setting of the cloudy city flawlessly while also showing the
reader that the protagonists are living in a very hard and depressing time. Most of the book takes place
in this rainy city as the oarsmen try

Heroes Out of Opression
Heroes Out of Oppression Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an
inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny (King) Martin Luther King
speaking these infamous words is only a small portion that reveals the inspirational nature that
allowed him to overcome racism. Oppression whether it is for race, gender, sexuality is still a series of
unfortunate events that occurs in our world every single day. The ground that America was built on
was based on equal rights for all, yet 200 years later injustice not only exists but thrives. However, if
nobody overcame oppression what would our world look like without those heroes and leaders?. In
Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther king is depicted as a man who was able to fight for his
people and his freedom even after all the horrific encounters with racism he had to witness. In
Sherman s Alexei s, What you Pawn I will Redeem , Jackson Jackson, even after left homeless and
alone, fought to get his grandmothers regalia back. Dana Johnson s Melvin from Melvin in the 6th
grade , lived through bullying and violence but was still able to remain a hero in Avery s eyes. What
made those people so amazing? Is it there charm, wit, perseverance? Leaders become influential when
other people strive to have those same heroic qualities. A true hero is an ordinary person who
exemplifies forgiveness, passion and empathy which allow them to overcome an oppressive situation

Predatory Lending and Inequality Essay
For many years, the American dream has been deteriorating for several reasons. Paul Krugman, author
of Confronting Inequality, blames the inequality of our income distribution. He explains how and why
the differences between wages of the poor and wealthy are a major conflict in today s society.
Constance M. Ruzich and A. J. Grant, authors of Predatory Lending and the Devouring of the
American Dream, argue that the downfall of the American dream has occurred because of predatory
lending acts. According to the authors, predatory lending and inequality play a very significant role in
the corruption of the American dream. Predatory lending has caused many conflicts in the American
society. Victims who fall for predatory lending are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why is it so important and why has it caused the economy such agony? Americans, both wealthy and
poor, try their absolute best to maintain a decent lifestyle for their children so they may have more
open opportunities, especially during these difficult hardships. Many middle class Americans are
purchasing homes that they may not be able to afford. Why? Because they want to make sure their
children are living in a good neighborhood with a good school to receive an education. This shows
how the wealthy and poor have different standards of living in terms of money management. This
inequality connects back to predatory lending. People who purchase homes over their budgets will
have more income difficulties and financial problems. This is likely to lead to subprime mortgages
which, in an unfortunate turn, adds to the distress of the economy. Paul Krugman, an economy
professor at Princeton and op ed writer for the New York Times, states in his essay, The lack of clear
economic progress for lower and middle income families is in itself an important reason to seek a
more equal distribution of income. The inequality within our present society has caused a ridiculous
amount of misfortune and concern. Incomes are unequal which raises questions as to who is living the
better life and who is at a better advantage. Krugman also mentions in his essay, Our unique lack of
universal health care, all by itself puts Americans who are unlucky in

Explain The Properties Of Water Cohesion
Water has five main properties. It s first is its attraction to other polar molecules. Because of its
cohesion to other water molecules, it is a major property. Cohesive forces are responsible for surface
tension. This causes water to form spherical droplets; this also allows it to support small objects if
they have been placed carefully on the surface. Due to the hydrogen bonds in the water, this allows the
water molecules to hold together. As they are exposed to air on one side, there will be neighbouring
water molecules to bond with, this forms stronger bonds with the existing neighbours. As a result of
the cohesion, the surface tension allows insects such as Water Striders to walk on the surface of water.
As opposed to is adhesion. Adhesion is the water s attraction between molecules of a ... Show more

The high specific heat (hsh) is the amount of energy that is absorbed. As a result, water molecules
form many hydrogen bonds. A great amount of heat is needed to increase the temperature of liquid
water as the heat is also needed to break hydrogen bonds between molecules. The (hshc) is defined as
the amount of heat needed to increase the temperature of one gram of a substance to one degree
Celsius, this is called a calorie. By breaking the bonds, water molecules can move freely, which
creates more friction and additional heat that allows a higher temperature. The hydrogen bonds absorb
the heat as they break, and also release heat as they form, this minimizes temperature change. Water
also helps maintain a moderate temperature for organisms and environments e.g warm blooded
animals distribute heat through their bodies. Due to its high specific heat capacity, water minimizes
changes in temperature. Waters (hshc) is five times greater than sand, as the land cools more quickly
than the sea as the sun sets, the slow cooling water then releases heat to nearby land amid the

Financial Intermediaries Exist Purely Because of...
Private equity is usually medium to long term finance provided in return for an equity stake in
potential high growth unquoted companies. These equity investments include securities that are not
listed on a public exchange and are not easily accessible to most individuals [1]. There are usually
available only to high net worth individual s, corporation s, institutional clients etc. These investments
range from initial capital in start up enterprises to leveraged buyouts of fully grown up corporations.
Mostly Private Equity funds are structured as closed end funds with a finite life span of 10 or 12 years,
which may be extended with the consent of the majority of the shareholders (Gompers and Lerner,
1999). Although they are illiquid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some private equity funds that have made high debt buyouts could crash too, and a number of pending
buyout deals may not go through. For eg at the end of July 2007, financing for the Alliance Boots and
Chrysler buyouts, two of the biggest private equity backed deals in the markets, ran into serious
difficulties, intensifying fears about a looming credit crunch [5].
In recent months, all that has changed. Investors who previously snapped up private equity loans are
now being refused low interest rates and easy credit conditions [4]. The success of private equity firms
depends a lot on the availability of low cost debt. But in a situation like this it becomes more difficult
and more expensive for PE funds to borrow money to buy companies. If the economy slows down,
acquired companies cash flow will too, making it harder for PE funds to pay back borrowed money.
Volatile share markets will also make it more difficult for PE funds to re sell companies, especially as
the potential buyers may themselves face tighter credit conditions. [5],
Globally private equity backed companies have shown to grow faster than other types of companies.
This has been made possible by the provision of a combination of capital and experienced personal
input from private equity executives, which sets it apart from other forms of

An Operating System Based On The Linux Kernel
Introduction
In Computer Hardware, we have touched on subjects of hardware, software, personnel, and their
implementations. Our group consists of Brad Soergel, Kai Javois, Maan Ababtain, Nuh Hamilton, and
Lakeem Duporte. Our group was charged with utilizing the Android operating system in the business
of our choice. We decided to implement this operating system in the Management, Deployment, and
day to day activities of a Tourism office. Due to the need for mobility, we decided Android would be
best for the integration of our mobile devices. We were allotted a start up budget of $100,000. Our
Chief Financial Officer, Lakeem Duporte has managed our funds and regulated spending throughout
the development process. Our general manager, Brad Soergel was the lead in charge of our
infrastructure and office accommodations. Maan Ababtain, our computer support technician handles
our technical issues. Nuh Hamilton, our network specialist maintains our servers and also enforces
privacy and security protocols.
Android
Android is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. This means that it uses the core
components of the Linux operating system as a basis for its programming. Google, the creator of
Android, took the open source code of the Linux kernel to create its operating system. (Hoffman, n.d.)
Even though Android uses much of the base code for Linux, it has been extensively modified to better
work on mobile devices and any other hardware Google wants it to.

Analysis Of Pariah, Directed And Written By Dee Rees Essay
LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bi sexual, and transgender. It is intended to highlight
a diversity of sexuality and gender identity based cultures. Historically, LGBT people have had to deal
with being brutalised and misunderstood because of the misconception that being gay is different and
deserves different treatment. However, there are efforts being made daily by the community in order
to educate people and ease their fears. The purpose of the following analysis is to deconstruct how
people who fought back while growing up realizing they are apart of community help shaped and/or
will shape them to become strong roles for LGBT people around the world.
In this paper, I will examine how women of color who deal with the lack of acceptance growing up
because of their lesbianism help shape and/or will shape them to be future role models for LGBT
people around the world. I will be using the coming of age drama, Pariah, directed and written by Dee
Rees, as a primary source in order to argue how the cinematography in this film portrays Alike being
the epitome of embracing one s sexuality. I chose this film because it reminded me of a similar story
that touched me in the form of a book written by Audre Lorde called Zami: A New Spelling of My
Name. Standing up in what Alike believed in and taking a stand by fighting back against so many in
the community deal with on a everyday basis is the driving force I will use to show how she took a big

Cold War Manderin Essay
The book, Cold War Mandarin Ngo Dinh Diem and the Origins of America s War in Vietnam 1950
1963, by Seth Jacobs is a comprehensive retelling of the rise and fall of Ngo Dinh Diem s government
in South Vietnam. In that retelling Jacob focuses on the major events that took place in Vietnam as
well as showed how America backed a leader that did nothing to booster his nation and led America
into one of the worst wars in its history. The Diem regime was a corrupt and tyrannical government
that used the United States fears of communism to push its own goals that ultimately led to its own
demise. Jacob viewed the escalation of America s involvement in Vietnam as the following, The nine

Diem stood at odds with Ho Chi Minh who was, eager to expand his base of support, Ho reached out
to anti communist nationalists: he especially wanted to attract Vietnam s Catholic minority, and
understood that the presence of a predominant Catholic in his first coalition cabinet would go a long
way to accomplish this goal (22). Diem refused to work with the Viet Minh and upon breaking
communications with them would then work organize an anti Viet Minh political party.
Diem was very much a nationalist, but not communist, and this is what drew the Americans to Diem.
The need had arisen to replace the Bao Dai emperorship, for in the eyes of many Vietnamese it was a
sham and the only other alternative was that of the communists and Ho Chi Minh. Diem understood
this and he, insisted that France s Bao Dai solution was all but handing Indochina to the Viet Minh.
Only a Vietnamese leader who had not collaborated with either the French or Communists could
succeed in forming a government to rival that of Ho (28). His arguments of Vietnamese nationalism
made sense to many political figures in Washington, thus putting him further in the front running for
American support. Diem also secured further support from his Catholic faith, which put him in good
with many influential figures in America, such as Cardinal Spellman who was very influential in right
wing political circles. Faith was a very strong motivator

Yorkville City Tax Case Study
As the city manager of Yorkville city I have been presented with a 1% tax income proposal on behalf
of the members of the city council in order to accumulate around 1 million dollars yearly to decrease
the current deficit that the city has of $650,000.The city council is asking me to hand out flyers to
promote this tax to the voters in order to pass the proposal with the city residents support in the next
coming elections. I would personally analyze the proposal and the reasons why there is such a bad
deficit of $650,000 and I would also find the specific measures taken by the city council or previous
city officials to work on the issue. The information should be gathered in different areas such as
accountability, new city programs and expenses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this specific case the dichotomy will involved the request made by the seven members of the city
council who are usually elected every two years and whose responsibility is to rectified my current
position. The support that the city council is asking for seems to be purely political, and the council
also expects my full support while presenting face on this 1 % income tax proposal in front of city
residents. That is a dichotomy where a public server like me gets frequently involved. However,
Frederickson (2015) also states that as a public administrator there is an inherent duty of policy
legitimacy and an ethical obligation to protect the interests of the underrepresentated. It is also
expected to administer city affairs according to the law, and bureaucratic standards of efficiency as
well as fairness (Frederickson,pg.20). If the council 1 % increase tax proposal does not benefit the
majority of the city s population, I would personally try to create a plan to address the deficit by
proposing a plan to evaluate, eliminate or preserve city programs. I would present this plan in the next
meeting and I would also politely express that I do not think it is appropriate for me to go around door

represent the fundamental values of our society. These stories help us develop an understanding of the
cultural values and how the human mind works. Myths and fairy tales continue to change through time

Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were commonly used
to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not until the Middle Ages
and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They started to be considered as
demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their evil bidding. In Harry Potter,
each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always
been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their
broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. A
witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and they were believed to embody demons and used
for spells.
In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts School of
Magic. A wand was a thin, handheld stick made of wood, stone or metals. It was a tool used to channel
the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is mentioned and in Greco
Roman mythology, the god Hermes had a special wand called a caduceus. In almost every childhood
story and fairy tale we have read, all the magical beings like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and
Sleeping Beauty, they all use a magic wand

Obedience In The Milgram Experiment
Introduction Don t eat that, Steve! yells a worried mother from across the park. Her son, Steve, about
to put a chunk of dirt into his mouth looks up at her, confused. That s dirt, son, we don t eat that , says
his mother in a gentle and reassuring voice. Promptly, the boy obeys her, leaving the dirt on the
ground and running to her arms. Babies like Steve know that, because their mom says so, they should
or shouldn t do certain things. This early form of obedience is present in human beings from a very
early age. This is represented in babies obeying simple commands or prohibitions from their mother
(Stayton, Hogan, Mary D. 1971). This was found to be connected to the mother s responses to the
baby s actions, such as her tone and her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people would not step in the square if they heard Nate firmly tell them to not do so. This is due
to the fact that people tend to associate authority with firmness as it was with Stanley s experiment.
Furthermore, it is an innate response to obey people whose tone we recognize to be linked with
negative consequences from when we were babies. The same can be said for why people tended to
step on the square more often if Nate used more gentle tone, as authority is not connected to this sort
of tone since early development. It is a social norm to obey people whose voices reflect authority and
to disregard those who do not have this tone. When posed with a situation as bizarre as this one,
people will follow their instincts in order that they may not break the norm. Humans may not be
animals like dogs, but they tend to regard authority as something to be obeyed, even if said authority

Financial Statements Of Cash Flow
The statement of cash flow is one of the financial statements that shareholders tend to evaluate to
ensure that all transactions are properly stated in each of the three activities mentioned above;
operating, investing, and financing. The statement of cash flows is also commonly overlooked by both
the balance sheets and income statements numbers.
The cash flow statement is important for the business as it brings valuable information that can help
evaluate a corporation. The statement will show if the business is low on money even if the financial
statements shows that is profitable. It will reflect if the owner withdrew to much cash from the
corporation. It will also reflect the principal payment of a loan and the correct amount used to acquire
equipment, property, and other assets that the income statement will not show. The absence of this
statement can hinder the operation of a business as the owner could easily fall in the negative (loss) by
not having eyes on the cash out flow exceeding the cash inflow.
Therefore, the adaptation of having a statement of cash flows becomes essential to any business or
organization. With the adaption of such a system personnel such as stakeholders become essential.
Stakeholders are a key role personnel when it comes to motivating the employees, acquiring resources
to assist on the final decision or final project, provide a valuable input, and ultimately build trust with
to increase consensus at the final decision making. The

Joseph Priestley Research Paper
Joseph Priestley was born and raised in England before immigrating to Pennsylvania in his later life.
Priestley lived in the 18th century and contributed much to the fields of chemistry and biology.
Priestley is considered important for many reasons, one of the main reasons being because of his
discovery of oxygen. Priestley also discovered Nitrous oxide in 1772. An important discovery in the

Joseph Priestly was born on March 24th, 1733 in Birstall, England. Priestley was born to Mary and

Critical Review of Meta Analysis
A Critical Review of Meta Analysis
Abstract
Meta analysis has been much debated and criticized since its creation, and it has been argued that
systematic reviews are superior. The present study examined the reverse idea that meta analysis is the
superior method. A literature search was conducted of meta analysis studies for psychotherapy within
the PsycINFO database. The resulting studies were further examined and classified as either primary
articles or secondary articles. Primary articles were further examined for secondary articles associated
with them. It was found that there was some criticism within the literature. The results were compared

As with any other process, meta analysis has several disadvantages or weaknesses. It s been argued,
for example, that one of the weaknesses of meta analysis is associated with the fact that it requires a
great amount of effort and expertise, and that currently there is a major drawback in the research
community of those who conduct them (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). Lipsey Wilson (2001) also argued
that meta analysis often loses a lot of valuable qualitative data (for example, the social context of the
study) because it aggregates only quantitative data. It is further argued that the exclusion of such data
may sometimes interfere with the process of arriving at the right conclusion (Lipsey Wilson, 2001).
Other authors also argue that meta analysis includes a mix of different studies in a single review which
could be very problematic (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). For example, Glass, McGraw Smith (1981)
referred to this as the apples and oranges problem, arguing that different treatments and measures are
given the same weight, when, in fact, they are not always the same. This, Glass, McGraw, and Smith
claimed, can result in a misrepresentation of the measures used in each study, as well as their level of
contribution to the review, which would skew the results. Lastly, the weaknesses of meta analysis have
been noted by others to stem from the fact that if poor quality studies or

The Types Of Insurance Commercials

In North By Alfred Hitchcock Essay
Intro:
Bordwell and Thompson judge narrative to be a chain of events linked by cause and effect in time and
space as a filmmaker, Hitchcock s biggest ally in creating suspense and mystery is his ability to
manipulate point of view within a cause and effect narrative. The Master of Suspense manipulates his
audience s perspective while simultaneously employing narrative techniques to build tension and
expand the potential of his narrative. While both North by Northwest and Rope are fairly
straightforward they are both riddled with plot twists and suspense. Hitchcock s various narrative
strategies include: plotting, release of story information, character development and spectator

In both North by Northwest and Rope Alfred Hitchcock employs clear diegesis in order establish a
story. Despite both films having clear narrative lines, Hitchcock purposefully utilizes point of view
editing to enhance the suspense and intrigue of the plot. Janet Bergstrom states in North by Northwest
Hitchcock constructs a visual structure with classical narrative economy In North by Northwest Roger
Thornhill is the main agent of cause and effect; we are introduced to Roger s clear character traits as
we see events take place through his eyes. However it s the tonal and point of view shift that takes
place roughly one third through the film that stimulates our interest. During the train dinner scene
between Eve and Roger Hitchcock employs reversals a technique described by Linda J. Cowgill as
when something happens and the film suddenly veers off in the opposite direction Hitchcock is able to
use this technique so successfully by allowing the emotion of the scene to connect with the suspense

Characteristics Of Inspirational Women In The 19th Century

Inspirational Women Women in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries have faced many obstacles. Many
of these obstacles included inequality of the sexes, slavery, and unheard voices and most importantly
recognition. These women all have different stories to tell. Many of these stories progress into
greatness despite the difficulties and hardships to hear that voice of victory they ve searched their
whole life for. As I observe writers in the 17th 19th century, I ve learned these women struggle with
the darkness of being unheard for many years hiding behind their husbands, masters, and etc. because
society prefer to treasure men over women who work twice as hard as they normally would do. Phillis
Wheatley had to fight in court to prove she wrote her poems because people didn t believe a slave
could write poems that speak to the human soul. In her first book , Poems of Various Subjects,
Religious and Morals in the poem Imagination she is letting readers know that she imagines herself
having a free soul that travels through the air to meet god in heaven. Soaring through air to find the
bright abode,Th empyreal palace of the thund ring God (Line 15 16). She became the first African
american author to have her work published in 1773.
Secondly, in 1797, Sojourner Truth was born in Swartekill Ulster County New York. Sold at the age

The Effects Of Nuclear Family On Modern Society
Over the past few decades social scientists have been engaged debates about family change and
influences in modern society, with one of the main themes being the strength and relevance of the
nuclear family. Those who believe that the nuclear family unit is breaking down often site the fact that
social structures holding up the nuclear family, such as marriage, are collapsing The chances in some
societies are now less that 50 50... that a child will live continuously to adult hood with both natural
parents (Popenoe 1999). Those on the opposite side believe that the concept of a nuclear family is a
traditional and naturally occurring phenomenon that passes from generation to generation. Evidence
exists on both sides of the debate leading to conclusion that while the nuclear family is not as
prevailing in modern society as it was in the past but still holds a certain level of relevance.
Due to the question being asked being debated over is based on the prevalence of a concept breaking
down in modern society it is important to understand where the concept came from and where it
stands in today s society. The concept of a nuclear family, which can be defined as a social unit
composed of two parents and one or more children (Dictionary.com), is viewed as the standard
modern family unit and this concept and perception emerged around the industrial revolution
(Bengtson, 2001). While families in history prior to the industrial revolution upheld these standards

Sikh Diet Research Paper
Another important Sikh ideal is that we should not eat things that result from the killing of an animal.
It is not correct however to say that the Sikh diet is a vegan diet. It is adequate to eat or drink
something that an animal produces but it is not adequate to eat or drink something that comes from the
killing of an animal or living being in general. In the Siri Guru Granth Sahib it says, Whosoever takes
Marijuana, fish and alcoholic drinks; all his pilgrimages, fasts and performance of religious practices
shall go waste (SGGS 1377). The reason for this is because killing a living being for your own benefit
is seen as an unrighteous action. It is deemed unethical to kill, and it is believed that God resides in all

One way the caste system is abolished is through langar. Langar is the free kitchen and dinning hall, or
other provision for serving meals that must be attached to the Gurdwaras. The purpose was to clearly
eliminate caste on the territory of the Gurdwara and so to eliminate it as either as a means or a
hindrance to liberation (Mcleod 121). A Sikh practice in which everyone sits down on the floor
together and takes part in eating langar together is seen at all Gurdwaras. This is an important Sikh
practice because it allows everyone to sit at one level and eat the same meal. No one person is higher
than another and that is the goal of this practice as mentioned. Sikhism focuses largely on equality and
today it is still seen that equality in all is not seen. Sikhs fight for equality as a whole in America
especially after the 9/11 attacks but there is a lack of equality seen in the Sikh diaspora itself. For
example many of the Sikhs still believe in the caste system. This is especially seen in marriage. A lot
of the parents will only allow their children to marry within their own caste. This goes against Guru
Nanak and the Sikh religion as a whole because it erases the platform of all being

Carl Jung Typology Test Paper
Abstract Carl Jung speculated that humans experience four principal psychological functions:
sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. One of these four functions is dominant for a person most of
the time. Jung s theory of psychological types was based on clinical observation, introspection and
anecdote. Jung s typology theories suggested a sequence of four cognitive functions (thinking, feeling,
sensation, and intuition), each having one of two orientations (extraversion or introversion). Jung

changing environments, people as well as organizations who make up those areas either change with
the times or risk becoming obsolete. So as Extension positions itself to address contemporary issues

maintain professional expertise in relevant areas (Martin, 1991). In planning for professional growth,
long term perspective and working toward clearly articulated professional development goals are most
important. While being flexible enough to accommodate shorter term changes is also key in

Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System
Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies, so
the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like meat and
sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t buy a rationed
item without having a ration stamp for that item (National WWII museum).
So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing is
perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system
spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market, since you
could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people sometimes needed
more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed items for a higher price, and
they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States History). One aspect of the rationing
system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people wanted some fresh vegetables they had to
make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once they did that their family could enjoy fresh food
for a few months while the garden was still alive, many people did this, there were approximately 20
million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United States History). In addition, if you had a ration stamp for
an item, it wasn t guaranteed that the store had the item that you needed because there were a lot of

DTCA Sales Promotion
Synapsis
Direct to consumer advertising of prescription medicines (DTCA) can be defined as an effort (usually
via popular media) made by a pharmaceutical company to promote its prescription products directly to
patients.[1] DTCA is prohibited in Canada, under two provisions in Food and Drugs Act, which is
enforced by Health Canada. Despite this prohibition, Health Canada currently allows two forms of
advertising that mention either the product (reminder ads) or the indication (help seeking ads), but not
both.[1,2] The United States and New Zealand are the only countries where direct to consumer
advertising, including full product claim ads, is legal.[1,2] The $395 billion US pharmaceutical

According to an Apr. 2013 survey, 68% of doctors agree that prescription drugs are marketed before
safety profiles can be known.[3] In response to the Vioxx recall from the market in 2004, it was
proposed to institute a mandatory waiting period for new drugs before DTCA is being permitted. The
Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended a two year advertising moratorium to conduct adequate
post marketing safety surveillance.[1] The same approach could be adopted as a policy in Canada, to
ensure patient safety, while promoting consumer empowerment by enabling them to participate in
informed decisions about their health care with their doctors.
Option 3: Mandatory Pre clearance of Drug Advertising by Health Canada
Drug advertisements should be reviewed and pre cleared by Health Canada in accordance with their
mandates. They have to contain a fair balance of information be provided to consumers,[4] and require
the disclosure of risks that are common and significant, as well as those that are rare but serious (for
example, paralysis or death). Health Canada could impose a fee for this service to be paid by the
pharmaceutical companies.

The Kernel Of Roman Society

Critical Paper II
Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society
Introduction
In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral
principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible
emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying
signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered
multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures
as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and
how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave.
Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving
father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts
Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid,
Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only
towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the
beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his
mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that

African Americans Should Be Banned Essay

Poaching has been increasing for many years. The number of poaching cases throughout the decades
have been increasing. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, the ivory demand grew drastically making poaching
for ivory increase throughout these years (Stiles, 309). CITES recommended to use a system called

Fisher and Harrison (2009), explain that inpatient treatment is positive for social interactions and
decreased isolation. When touring the facility the patients were spending time together showing
decreased isolation between them. The patients frequently have outings to activities such as a ropes

which make it less likely that the patients will use a substance while in treatment (Fisher Harrison,

facility at any time, the doors and windows remain unlocked from the inside. According to Fisher and
Harrison (2009), a least restrictive environment can have positive results. Clients should be placed in
the treatment setting that offers the least amount of restriction, with the highest probability of success
(Fisher Harrison, p. 147). My automatic reaction when Mary told me that the patients were in a least
restrictive setting was that I did not understand how that could work because I assumed the patients
would leave. Though inpatient treatment has many benefits, there is a risk that the patient will relapse

Summary Of The Title Of Oscar Wilde s Earnest
Title
The title of the book seems to emphasize the word Earnest by describing it as something important.
After reading through the play by Oscar Wilde, the title seems to perfectly match with the content and
plot described in the book, since it shows the irony behind the title of the importance of being earnest,
and the made up character Ernest himself. Jack s double, Ernest, is a made up character who Jack can
transform into in order to be another version of himself. When Jack is residing in the countryside at
his manor in Hertfordshire, he is Jack, his true identity, but when his is in town in London, he
transforms into his brother who is named Ernest. Gwendolen and Cecily, two young ladies that fell in
love with Ernest, seem to be only in love with this character because of his name . Even at the end of
the book when Gwendolen found out that Jack s real name wasn t Ernest, she didn t want him for a
small period of time because his name wasn t Ernest, upsetting her. At the end of the Act 3, when Jack
got introduced to his name, Ernest, which was a name given to him all along, Gwendolen seemed to
have forgiven him in an instant since his name was Ernest after all, and she knew she would only fall
in love with a man named Ernest. This imaginative character symbolizes the small value of respect
that the Victorian Society shows for ideals such as honesty, responsibility, and compassion. Instead,
ideals such as class, money, and status within the hierarchy of society seem

Importance Of Servant Leadership And Indian Culture
Servant Leadership In Indian Culture and Hindu Religion
Although servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and assessed in a Biblical context, it
is important to recognize that servant leadership is present in other religions and cultural contexts as
well. Servant leadership has the capability to exist in any environment where there is humility,
selflessness, and a commitment to exhorting and empowering one s followers. Historically, the best
servant leaders have come from a variety of eras, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, proving that
servant leadership transcends all demographic and religious boundaries and is founded on a core set of
beliefs and values. This paper will aim to discuss servant leadership in the context of the Hindu
religion and the culture of India, proving that servant leadership promotes unifying people rather than
dividing by religious and cultural differences.
Servant Leadership in the Indian Culture
Culture is to a human collectivity is what personality is to an individual (Hofstede, 2001). By this,
Hofstede means that culture aids in identifying a people group in the same way that a personality
identifies a person. This means that in the same way that people with differing personalities but
similar values can be servant leaders, unique cultures with the same foundational emphasis on service
and leadership can practice servant leadership. This is important to remember when evaluating servant

The mothers and fathers were interviews upon child s birth, and again when the child was 1, 3, and 5
years old.
The key independent variable was couples on the basis of the father s veteran status and their racial
ethnicity. Age was also a contributin factor for both the mothers and fathers as well as paternal
immigrant status and structure of family of origin.

Discussion
The following are direct results from the research of Usdanksy, London, and
Wilmouth (2009). Couples with Black Veteran fathers were 54% more likely to marry within 5 years
of the birth than couples with Black nonveteran fathers. They also found that military service did not
increase odds for Whites and Hispanics. Couples with White or Hispanic nonveteran fathers however
were twice as likely to marry as couples with
Black nonveteran fathers. It was observed that the impact of military service endures among African
American men in fragile families, which could be related to the benefits that are much more
significant and greater lasting for Black men than other ethnic groups. Overall, the group of
researchers for this journal found that the limitation of racial groups in which the study focused on
leaves a range of direcet and indirect questions

The Importance Of Free Day At School
When all of the children enter the room, they are automatically greeted with the song, The Ants Are
Marching . This will get them excited for another day at school. After the song, any announcements
that need to be made will be said and children will then be dismissed to free play at the center of their
choosing.
This free play time at any center will give the children time to socialize and talk about any exciting
news they have with their friends so that they will be quieter through the lessons that are planned the
rest of the day. During this time the teacher is free to check in on any kids if need be.
The children will know that free time is done once the teacher rings the bell. After the children quiet
down the teacher will then begin to sing The Soap on Your Hands . The children will know that when
this song is sung that it is time for then to wash their hands. Once they are done washing their hands,
the teacher will instruct the kids to get to their assigned seat.
Breakfast will be served once all of the children are seated. Wednesday the breakfast will be whole
grain oatmeal that has raspberry halves, strawberry quarters, and blueberries in it. Children will wash
this delightful meal down with a nice glass of ice cold 2% milk. Once each child is finished eating,
they will put their plates and silverware on a tray for the teacher to take care of.
At 8:13, the children will be directed to the group rug for Stretch Time . Stretch Time is a chant that

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny
As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings
of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors
texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A
Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she
continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself.
Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant

Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he
gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his
character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished.
Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has
written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is
sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a
pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and
sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her
paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley
Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche,
however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of
nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the
play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias.
After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for
all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between

Introduction
This is a comparative essay and its purpose is to compare old Earth and young Earth viewpoints on
Dating the rocks of the Grand Canyon. There are different views on this and no scientific method that
can prove (completely) the age of the universe or the earth. There are the use of different types of
calculations that can provide some guesses on the age of the earth. Many things need to be assumed
such as a beginning date and the speed of change along with varying increases and decreases of
material over time. Young Earth Creationism (YEC) is based on a precept that earth and the universe
were created by God, only 6,000 years ago in six days. Their position is that by examining geological

Old Earth Secular View
Mainstream science make predictions based on varies tests. For instance, one of the test said that in a
certain geological eras some animals should have transitioned from fish to amphibians. This helped
the scientists find just such fossils in that era. Old Earth seculars believe tree rings over 6000 years
old, thick layers of limestone, and the sequence of animal fossils in rock layers are evidence for an
Old Earth view.
A description of the grand canyon rock layers would include the Colorado River running at the bottom
of the inner gorge with flats on both sides which consist of tapeat sandstone layers. There is also the
Vishnu Complex, consisting of rocks that have been changed by heat and are buried at the lowest
layers. These are tilted and are called the Grand Canyon Supergroup the Grand Canyon supergroups
are at least 12,000 ft in thickness. These rocks or (the Inner Gorge ) are usally steep and narrow with
hard deep cuts in the lower tilted layers which raise above sea level.
Old Earth Seculars search and explore these areas of the Grand Canyon to find answers to the age of
the earth.
Young Earth View Young Earth view point on the age of earth is based on not only science but the
Bible as well. There try to combine the two areas in an effort to present the true age of the earth. One
of the areas they use is how long it takes for material to harden. They present

This reflects on to the point that there s always more than what meets the eye. There are subtitles at
the bottom, which says, A driver is not just a driver , which means that there s more to the driver than
what meets the eye. There is a freeze frame in this scene and it s of the doctor s face to focus on the
point that there is a multi ethnical background. At the end, the doctor says moyen bien , which means
very good in Spanish, which reflects on to the fact that Peugeot is a very good car.
The third scene is a close up of a man s face and then the camera pans out to reveal that the man is
really a prisoner in jail. He is painting a picture of mountains, which links to the opening scene. The
subtitle at the bottom of the screen says, A prisoner is not just a criminal , which, again, means that
there is more than what we see. The fourth scene first starts off in a distant shot of a couple that are
kissing, and then it zooms to a close up of the kiss. The camera pans around to the back seat and a
small child is sitting there, which shows a close up of the car. This shows that the car is a family car,
which means that the car is big enough for the family. As we see the couple there is a sudden
magnetism. The couple is used to reflect the fact that love lasts and so does the

Mesopotamia Equality
What is equality? Equality is when everyone equal in a society, it could equality in race or gender.
Based on the five sources I have, I can argue that women were not equal in Mesopotamian culture.
Mesopotamia took place in 3500 B.C. Iraq. Women were not equal because, they were punished more
harshly than men. Women were also sold to their husbands for marriage, and if they die and have
children with her husband, than only their sons will get the dowry. In the Code of Ur Nammu it says,
that if a slave woman compares herself to her mistress than she shall be punished. This was located in
law number twenty five. Instead of having to pay with some way of payment, she was punished
horribly. Her punishment would be that she would have

Functions Of The Mechanism Of Gene Expression
Researchers daily utilize the knowledge of the mechanism of gene expression, allowing them to
operate in different areas. An example is the imposition of certain conditions to micro organisms,
which are capable of producing drugs or induce cells to function properly, which is of great
importance in medicine. Great emphasis is placed on control systems based on proteins but recently
research started to also focus on the use of systems based on RNA, which is equally as polypeptides
involved in the regulation of processes such as transcription, mRNA degradation and translation.
Ribonucleic acid can regulate gene expression by the presence of the particles in the chain, where the
individual parts are complementary to each other and can form hydrogen bonds therebetween to form
a secondary structures. TRANSCRIPTION transcriptionis the first stage of gene expression. Its
mechanism is based on rewriting the genetic information contained in the nucleotide sequence of the
DNA strand to the RNA. The process can be divided into the initiation, elongation and termination. In
a first step, an RNA polymerase binds to the denatured template locally at the site promoter. Then, in
elongation step, it adds more ribonucleotides, complementay to the DNA strand, to the nascent mRNA
in the 5 → 3 . The process terminates at terminacyjnym, which mostly is characterized by regions
complementary to each other, resulting in the formation of secondary structure in a transcript hairpin

The development of the Chinese philosophy of Confucianism and the ancient religion of Judaism were directly influenced by historical events. Judaism is a monotheistic religion founded by Abraham around 3500 years ago. Specific historical events played very important roles in the development of both of these faiths. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny (King) Martin Luther King speaking these infamous words is only a small portion that reveals the inspirational nature that allowed him to overcome racism. Oppression whether it is for race, gender, sexuality is still a series of unfortunate events that occurs in our world every single day. The ground that America was built on was based on equal rights for all, yet 200 years later injustice not only exists but thrives. However, if nobody overcame oppression what would our world look like without those heroes and leaders?. In Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther king is depicted as a man who was able to fight for his people and his freedom even after all the horrific encounters with racism he had to witness. In Sherman s Alexei s, What you Pawn I will Redeem , Jackson Jackson, even after left homeless and alone, fought to get his grandmothers regalia back. Paul Krugman, author of Confronting Inequality, blames the inequality of our income distribution. He explains how and why the differences between wages of the poor and wealthy are a major conflict in today s society. Constance M. Ruzich and A. J. Grant, authors of Predatory Lending and the Devouring of the American Dream, argue that the downfall of the American dream has occurred because of predatory lending acts. According to the authors, predatory lending and inequality play a very significant role in the corruption of the American dream. Predatory lending has caused many conflicts in the American society. Americans, both wealthy and poor, try their absolute best to maintain a decent lifestyle for their children so they may have more open opportunities, especially during these difficult hardships. Many middle class Americans are purchasing homes that they may not be able to afford. Why? Because they want to make sure their children are living in a good neighborhood with a good school to receive an education. This shows how the wealthy and poor have different standards of living in terms of money management. This inequality connects back to predatory lending. People who purchase homes over their budgets will have more income difficulties and financial problems. This is likely to lead to subprime mortgages which, in an unfortunate turn, adds to the distress of the economy. Paul Krugman, an economy professor at Princeton and op ed writer for the New York Times, states in his essay, The lack of clear economic progress for lower and middle income families is in itself an important reason to seek a more equal distribution of income. The inequality within our present society has caused a ridiculous amount of misfortune and concern. Incomes are unequal which raises questions as to who is living the better life and who is at a better advantage. This causes water to form spherical droplets; this also allows it to support small objects if they have been placed carefully on the surface. Due to the hydrogen bonds in the water, this allows the water molecules to hold together. As they are exposed to air on one side, there will be neighbouring water molecules to bond with, this forms stronger bonds with the existing neighbours. As a result of the cohesion, the surface tension allows insects such as Water Striders to walk on the surface of water. As opposed to is adhesion. Adhesion is the water s attraction between molecules of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high specific heat (hsh) is the amount of energy that is absorbed. As a result, water molecules form many hydrogen bonds. A great amount of heat is needed to increase the temperature of liquid water as the heat is also needed to break hydrogen bonds between molecules. The (hshc) is defined as the amount of heat needed to increase the temperature of one gram of a substance to one degree Celsius, this is called a calorie. By breaking the bonds, water molecules can move freely, which creates more friction and additional heat that allows a higher temperature. The hydrogen bonds absorb the heat as they break, and also release heat as they form, this minimizes temperature change. Water also helps maintain a moderate temperature for organisms and environments e.g warm blooded animals distribute heat through their bodies. Due to its high specific heat capacity, water minimizes changes in temperature. Waters (hshc) is five times greater than sand, as the land cools more quickly than the sea as the sun sets, the slow cooling water then releases heat to nearby land amid the ... For eg at the end of July 2007, financing for the Alliance Boots and Chrysler buyouts, two of the biggest private equity backed deals in the markets, ran into serious difficulties, intensifying fears about a looming credit crunch [5]. In recent months, all that has changed. Investors who previously snapped up private equity loans are now being refused low interest rates and easy credit conditions [4]. The success of private equity firms depends a lot on the availability of low cost debt. But in a situation like this it becomes more difficult and more expensive for PE funds to borrow money to buy companies. If the economy slows down, acquired companies cash flow will too, making it harder for PE funds to pay back borrowed money. Volatile share markets will also make it more difficult for PE funds to re sell companies, especially as the potential buyers may themselves face tighter credit conditions. [5], Globally private equity backed companies have shown to grow faster than other types of companies. This has been made possible by the provision of a combination of capital and experienced personal input from private equity executives, which sets it apart from other forms of ... It is intended to highlight a diversity of sexuality and gender identity based cultures. Historically, LGBT people have had to deal with being brutalised and misunderstood because of the misconception that being gay is different and deserves different treatment. However, there are efforts being made daily by the community in order to educate people and ease their fears. The purpose of the following analysis is to deconstruct how people who fought back while growing up realizing they are apart of community help shaped and/or will shape them to become strong roles for LGBT people around the world. In this paper, I will examine how women of color who deal with the lack of acceptance growing up because of their lesbianism help shape and/or will shape them to be future role models for LGBT people around the world. I will be using the coming of age drama, Pariah, directed and written by Dee Rees, as a primary source in order to argue how the cinematography in this film portrays Alike being the epitome of embracing one s sexuality. I chose this film because it reminded me of a similar story that touched me in the form of a book written by Audre Lorde called Zami: A New Spelling of My Name. Standing up in what Alike believed in and taking a stand by fighting back against so many in the community deal with on a everyday basis is the driving force I will use to show how she took a big giant step ... The cash flow statement is important for the business as it brings valuable information that can help evaluate a corporation. Lipsey Wilson (2001) also argued that meta analysis often loses a lot of valuable qualitative data (for example, the social context of the study) because it aggregates only quantitative data. It is further argued that the exclusion of such data may sometimes interfere with the process of arriving at the right conclusion (Lipsey Wilson, 2001). Other authors also argue that meta analysis includes a mix of different studies in a single review which could be very problematic (Berkeljon Baldwin, 2009). For example, Glass, McGraw Smith (1981) referred to this as the apples and oranges problem, arguing that different treatments and measures are given the same weight, when, in fact, they are not always the same. This, Glass, McGraw, and Smith claimed, can result in a misrepresentation of the measures used in each study, as well as their level of contribution to the review, which would skew the results. One of these four functions is dominant for a person most of the time. Jung s theory of psychological types was based on clinical observation, introspection and anecdote. Jung s typology theories suggested a sequence of four cognitive functions (thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuition), each having one of two orientations (extraversion or introversion). In planning for professional growth, long term perspective and working toward clearly articulated professional development goals are most important. While being flexible enough to accommodate shorter term changes is also key in professional growth. • 30. Pros And Cons Of Ration Books And The Rationing System Ration books With the onset of WWII, the United States needed a system to savor their supplies, so the government put in place the rationing system. They used ration books to get supplies like meat and sugar from grocery stores, a ration book was kind of like a coupon book, you couldn t buy a rationed item without having a ration stamp for that item (National WWII museum). So it s like a mix of a coupon book, and a you have permission to buy this item stamp. But nothing is perfect, not even the ration books, so here are some cons the ration books the rationing system spawned. First, that the ration system/books spawned that was illegal was the black market, since you could only buy something if you had a rationing stamp from a grocery store, people sometimes needed more than they had, so the black market allowed people to buy rationed items for a higher price, and they didn t need the ration stamp for that item (United States History). One aspect of the rationing system was that the food wasn t very fresh, so if people wanted some fresh vegetables they had to make their own gardens (victory gardens) and once they did that their family could enjoy fresh food for a few months while the garden was still alive, many people did this, there were approximately 20 million victory gardens (20,000,000) (United States History). DTCA Sales Promotion Synapsis Direct to consumer advertising of prescription medicines (DTCA) can be defined as an effort (usually via popular media) made by a pharmaceutical company to promote its prescription products directly to patients.[1] DTCA is prohibited in Canada, under two provisions in Food and Drugs Act, which is enforced by Health Canada. The Kernel Of Roman Society Rosemaria Varghese HUMA 4312 Critical Paper II Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society Introduction In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave. Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). Lakeside Milam has 24 hour care for its patients which make it less likely that the patients will use a substance while in treatment (Fisher Harrison, 2009). After reading through the play by Oscar Wilde, the title seems to perfectly match with the content and plot described in the book, since it shows the irony behind the title of the importance of being earnest, and the made up character Ernest himself. Jack s double, Ernest, is a made up character who Jack can transform into in order to be another version of himself. When Jack is residing in the countryside at his manor in Hertfordshire, he is Jack, his true identity, but when his is in town in London, he transforms into his brother who is named Ernest. Gwendolen and Cecily, two young ladies that fell in love with Ernest, seem to be only in love with this character because of his name . Even at the end of the book when Gwendolen found out that Jack s real name wasn t Ernest, she didn t want him for a small period of time because his name wasn t Ernest, upsetting her. At the end of the Act 3, when Jack got introduced to his name, Ernest, which was a name given to him all along, Gwendolen seemed to have forgiven him in an instant since his name was Ernest after all, and she knew she would only fall in love with a man named Ernest. That he gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished. Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias. There are subtitles at the bottom, which says, A driver is not just a driver , which means that there s more to the driver than what meets the eye. There is a freeze frame in this scene and it s of the doctor s face to focus on the point that there is a multi ethnical background. At the end, the doctor says moyen bien , which means very good in Spanish, which reflects on to the fact that Peugeot is a very good car. The third scene is a close up of a man s face and then the camera pans out to reveal that the man is really a prisoner in jail. He is painting a picture of mountains, which links to the opening scene. The subtitle at the bottom of the screen says, A prisoner is not just a criminal , which, again, means that there is more than what we see. The fourth scene first starts off in a distant shot of a couple that are kissing, and then it zooms to a close up of the kiss. The camera pans around to the back seat and a small child is sitting there, which shows a close up of the car. • 49. Mesopotamia Equality What is equality? Equality is when everyone equal in a society, it could equality in race or gender. Based on the five sources I have, I can argue that women were not equal in Mesopotamian culture. Mesopotamia took place in 3500 B.C. Iraq. Women were not equal because, they were punished more harshly than men. Women were also sold to their husbands for marriage, and if they die and have children with her husband, than only their sons will get the dowry. In the Code of Ur Nammu it says, that if a slave woman compares herself to her mistress than she shall be punished. This was located in law number twenty five. Instead of having to pay with some way of payment, she was punished horribly. Her punishment would be that she would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Functions Of The Mechanism Of Gene Expression Researchers daily utilize the knowledge of the mechanism of gene expression, allowing them to operate in different areas. An example is the imposition of certain conditions to micro organisms, which are capable of producing drugs or induce cells to function properly, which is of great importance in medicine. Great emphasis is placed on control systems based on proteins but recently research started to also focus on the use of systems based on RNA, which is equally as polypeptides involved in the regulation of processes such as transcription, mRNA degradation and translation. Ribonucleic acid can regulate gene expression by the presence of the particles in the chain, where the individual parts are complementary to each other and can form hydrogen bonds therebetween to form a secondary structures. TRANSCRIPTION transcriptionis the first stage of gene expression. Its mechanism is based on rewriting the genetic information contained in the nucleotide sequence of the DNA strand to the RNA. The process can be divided into the initiation, elongation and termination. In a first step, an RNA polymerase binds to the denatured template locally at the site promoter. Then, in elongation step, it adds more ribonucleotides, complementay to the DNA strand, to the nascent mRNA in the 5 → 3 . The process terminates at terminacyjnym, which mostly is characterized by regions complementary to each other, resulting in the formation of secondary structure in a transcript hairpin [5]. In ...
