Interpreting the Brief
The client for my current project is ‘Sunderland Culture’, they have asked us to create a
media related product for their exhibition that they will be holding in Sunderland Winter
Gardens and The National Glass Centre. The theme that the company has given is ‘region
identity’ which allows participants to create any for of media that relates to Sunderland and
surrounding areas in the North East. Sunderland Culture has asked that the final product is
in the form of print media, video media or a combination of both. If video media is created it
should be a short film or a documentary around 10-15 minutes long. The primary target
audience for this brief is 16-25 in order to engage young people to think and appreciate
where they are from and think about their own personal identity.
For my idea I am creating a documentary about music in the North East and how it has
effected and shaped the region. Also, in my documentary I will be including Sunderland,
Newcastle and Tynemouth as they are surrounding areas and most popular within the North
East. As many big artists are from the North East such as Sam Fender, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie
Edwards, Sting and Emilie Sande., I wanted to show how much music has effected the
region and how it has played a huge impact on the cities. With the target audience being
teenagers and young adults, I believe that this will appeal to my target audience as music is
a main part of everyone’s day whether that be the radio in the car or background music in a
show, there is always some form of music playing in the background. With my idea I feel like
I have met the brief through my idea and appealed to my audience by my idea as it is a
veery modern day idea that also goes far back in the past and shaped the region.
