2. To gather more information about my target audience I created a
google forms survey to get better understanding of my target
audience. From my survey I received 6 responses which I believe
is a good number of responses and allows me to gain a range of
responses. As seen in the brief the target audience is 16-34 year
olds. In this age category over 90% of teenagers and young
adults use social media, and over 75% have at least one social
media account by the age of 17 years old.

3. For my first question I asked my target audience for their age
to gain a better understanding on who my target audience is.
From this question I found that:
100% are 16-18
0% are 19-21
0% are 22-24
From this I can see that all of my target audience is within the
ae range of 16-18. This will allow me to target my
documentary to people within that age range.
For my second question, I asked my target audience what
their gender was. From this question I found that:
83.3% are female
16.7% are male
0% would prefer not to say
This has allowed me to see that my audience is mostly
female with 83.3% of my target audience being female, it
also allowed me to see that only a small percentage are
male. This will allow me to target my documentary towards
both genders.
4. For my third question I asked my target audience if they had
heard of the BBC/ BBC Three. From this question I found that:
100% had heard of them both
When asking this question I believe that it is one of the most
important as if my target audience didn’t know what BBC or
BBC Three was, that may mean that they would become
uninterested or I would have to inform them of the BBC.
However with my target audience they all know what the BBC
is and have heard of BBC Three.
For this question I asked my target audience if they
watch BBC Three. From this question I learned
that:
33.7% say that they do watch BBC Three
66.7% say that they don’t watch BBC Three
When asking this question I believed it was very
important as the brief surround BBC Three as that
is the channel that is running the programs.
However, the majority of my target audience don’t
5. In my next question I asked my target audience if they are
interested in watching documentaries. From this question I found
that:
66.7% are interested in documentaries
33.3% aren’t interested in documentaries
By asking this question I am able to see if my target audience is
interested in documentaries which is very important for this project.
With these results I can see that the majority of my target audience
are interested in documentaries.
In relation to the question above I asked my target audience if
they were interested in documentaries, what specific genres they
were into. From this I found that:
Crime
History
Political
Fitness
Animals/ nature
From asking this question I found that the more people in my
target audience are interested in true crime documentaries rather
than history documentaries or political shows.
6. For this question I asked my target audience what form of TV they
watch. From this question I found that:
33.3% watch only TV
50% watch TV and online services like Netflix and Disney
16.7% only watch TV online.
I believe that was an important question to ask as BBC Three is
now on both TV and online streaming services. By asking this
question I am able to find out my target audiences' preference to
how they watch their chosen content.
For this question I asked my target audience about how much they
use social media on a daily basis. From this I found that:
100% use social media daily
I believe that asking this question was important as my documentary
is surrounding the topic of social media. From this I can also see that
all of my target audience use social media every day. By asking this
question I have allowed myself to see if my target audience uses
social media daily.
7. To follow the last question I asked, I decided that it would be
important to ask my target audience about how long they
use social media for on a daily basis. From this I found that:
16.7% use social media for 2 hours everyday
50% use social media for 5 hours everyday
16.7% use social media for 5-7 hours everyday
16.7% use social media for 8 hours everyday
I felt like this was an important question to ask when creating
this survey as it allowed me to have a further look into how
long my target audience spend on social media on a day to
day basis. This will also allow me to include this information
within my documentary.
To follow up with the previous question I asked my target
audience what their most used social media app is. For
asking this I fond that:
Snapchat
TikTok
Reddit
By looking at the survey results I an see snapchat and
TikTok are the most used apps within my target audience, I
can also see that the app reddit is used in my target
audience.
