2. I asked 17 different people to take part in my survey, the age
averaging from 12 to 17 and only 1 person who was older. 8
were female and 9 were male so I think this was pretty much
fair and gave me an equal idea of what different sexes might
want to see. Not every question was answered by each
person however there is enough information from these that
can really help with my magazine, therefor I think my survey
was successful.
3. How often do you buy music magazines?
• Out of 17, only 2 people said they buy magazines once a month,
the rest never buy them at all.
• This suggests to me that my magazine really needs to stand out as this result shows that
the magazine industry may be dying down as things are mostly associated with social
network, film and television. In my magazine I will make sure to include things that link
with social networks, film and television. A way of doing this could be by mentioning a
Facebook, twitter and Instagram page which we also have in the magazine which would
sell itself more.
4. Do you like House music?
• Out of 17, 15 said yes, 1 said no and the other person had never
heard of it.
• This is a positive response for my survey because the majority would be my target
audience. This means that all of their answers are crucial because I will need to include
pretty much everything they want so that it would appeal to them and it will sell
weekly rather than once a month or never.
5. Could you suggest any house music magazine
names?
• Beat
• Static
• Riff
• Bungalow
• House on the run
• Billboard
• House every weekend
• Decks
• Brick home beats
• Good vibrations
• These are a great range of ideas and
it has helped a lot with ideas, I think
I will definitely use one of these for
the final magazine. The ones that
stood out the most were ‘Bungalow’
‘Billboard’ ‘house every weekend’
‘brick home beats’ ‘riff’ and ‘decks’.
Its really hard to decide which one is
my favourite but I really like
‘Bungalow’ and ‘decks’.
6. How many artists should I feature in my
magazine?
NUMBER OF ARTISTS
4 people = 2 artists
3 people = 3 artists
3 people = 4 artists
7 people = MORE
• Out of 17, 4 people said I should feature 2 artists, 3 said I should
feature 4, 3 said I should feature 2 artists and 7 said I should
feature more.
• This result has helped me get an idea of how many artists to feature and it has save da
lot of time for me because I think that I would’ve struggled to decide how many, also i
was originally only thinking of featuring 3 so now I know that that wouldn’t have
appealed to my target audience.
7. What colour schemes could you suggest for a
house magazine?
• This question was hard to get a final decision with, there were
some colour choices that I liked for example black, purple and
neon green. A lot of people said black so I will make sure black is
definitely seen in my magazine, the one I really liked was white,
purple and black as I think this would suit the house genre very
well.
8. What would persuade you to buy this
magazine?
• For this question almost everyone said the information and
content and some said the colour. I will include everything that
everyone said from the pictures, content, competitions etc. just
to make sure that I am hitting the requirements and expectations
of my target audience.
9. What would you consider as inappropriate for
this magazine?
• For this the obvious answers were said such as nudity, racism and
sexism however there was some answers that I didn’t think about
such as including a different genre of music, when I asked this
question I genuinely thought about what would be offensive to
people, not what would be of any relevance or not.
10. What would you like to read about in my
magazine?
• This was a multiple choice question, 10 people said that they
would want to read about new upcoming songs, another 10 said
celebrity gossip, 7 said they wanted to read about the top of the
charts, 6 said they wanted to read about festivals and 4 wanted to
read about how the music is made.
• These results have helped me because it has given me an idea of how much to write for
each subject and maybe where to place each subject on my contents page.
11. Do you have any hobbies?
• The majority of people mentioned a sporting activity from football
to ballet, as well as sporting activities they mentioned things like
drawing and reading.
• From these results I think if there's a way I include some sense of sports then that would
appeal to the target audience, I could maybe have a photo shoot on a football pitch or
sports hall.
12. Are there any slogans you would use for my
magazine strapline?
• There were some of these that were really imaginative and fun to
read, one was “house on the run” another was “house, where
music is made” and my favourite was “the no.1 house magazine”.
• That was my favourite because it wasn’t so cliché and I think it sells itself more its more
persuasive to the target audience to buy it if they think it’s the best house magazine
out there.
13. How much would you pay for the magazine?
• Out of 17, 12 people said they would only pay £1-£2, 4 people said
£3-£4 and and only 1 said more.
• This has helped me choose the price of £2.00, this is because it
would have to produce enough money to fund for all the features
would need to include like the photoshoots and the printing costs
however its also cheap for the target audience. For me the price
doesn’t effect it, more people will buy it if its cheaper which will
probably make the same amount of money if it was £3-£4.
