Business-to-business (B2B) concerns businesses working together to allow one to receive inputs from another. B2B can be said to have started in the 1970’s with automated order entry systems that used telephone connections. In the late 1970s, electronic data interchange (EDI) provided standards for the computer-to-computer exchange of information such as invoices and purchase orders.
Business to consumer (B2C) is a retail activity. Here companies use electronic means to deliver goods and services to consumers.
What revenue models are used in e-commerce?
Operators of e-commerce web sites can support their activities using one or more of several revenue models.
A site that attracts users and then displays advertisements from other businesses is using the advertising revenue model. A site that charges a fixed periodic fee for access to its content is using a subscription revenue model. Some sites charge a fee for a completed transaction, such as a stock trade. This is the transaction fee model.
Companies that earn directly from what customers buy use the sales revenue model. Finally, a site may earn its revenue by referring visitors to other sites. This is the affiliate revenue model.

Elastography is a medical imaging technique that maps the elastic properties of soft tissues. It works by applying localized stresses to tissues and measuring the resulting deformations using ultrasound, MRI, or other imaging modalities. Clinicians can use elastography to detect cancers and other abnormalities, as diseased tissues often have different stiffness than normal tissues. Elastography provides quantitative data on tissue mechanics beyond what palpation alone can reveal, improving disease diagnosis and monitoring treatment effectiveness. Engineers are also exploring elastography to develop artificial tissues that better mimic the mechanical properties of natural organs.

Most activities that are executive in the supply chain are beneficial from lean thinking, for instance,
picking, packing and loading and unloading activities in cooperation.
Lean suggests the need for the supply chain to exploit the limited resources for an efficient
completion of the job. Inventory, trucks warehouses, laborers and the capital for working are the
primary sources in the supply chain (Myerson, 2012). The lean supply chain is designed to include
inventories in the framework, warehousing space that is minimal to keep these inventories. It will
also design to the establishment of long term, supply contracts that are stable with a negotiated cost

9. Supply Chain Management : Supply Chains Essay
In order to answer the question of what is supply chain management we must know what a supply
chain is. According to (Mentzer et al., 2001, p. 1) "Supply chain is defined as the network of
organisations which are involved in different processes that produce value either in the form of
products or services delivered to consumers". A supply chain is made up of suppliers, manufactures
and distributors, a good way of looking at this is the supply chain pipeline. A supply chain is seen as
an enabler, this is why people are seeing this increased importance for it and realize it is the weapon
of the future. A supply chain starts at the upstream stage, which is usually the sourcing of raw
materials then downstream to the disposal stage (Berk, 2005)
According to (Lummus & Vokurka, 1999, p. 2) "Supply chain management is an integrating
philosophy to manage the total flow of a distribution channel from supplier to ultimate customer".
The theory behind this definition looks at how supply chain management allows companies to focus
on there unique skill sets and how understanding supply chain objectives and individual roles, an
ability to work together, and a willingness to adapt in order to create and deliver the best products
and services possible. Technology and teamwork are a huge part of supply chain management, if
organisations have advanced technology and good teamwork efficiency and effective processes will
be created which will create more value for the end customer, but if

11. Supply Chain Management: The Philosophy Of Supply Chain...
Supply Chain Management (SCM) represents the end to end value chain of a business from
production to after–sales service. According to Schulz, a well–managed supply chain should be
market focused, stating that the supply chain should strongly represent the market needs and "what
solutions consumers are looking for, not the product we are trying to sell them". However is the
philosophy of SCM merely just a new supply chain thinking approach to older existing SCM
practice? For example, Quality Management which is deeply rooted in the concept of SCM although
not in self–new, has evolved over time, and is based upon the concept of having total commitment to

The key benefit of this is to deliver superior value to the target market and while doing so, sustain
competitive advantage in the market place. Marketers tend to focus on the customer end of the value
network , developing important customer relationship management practices , with the view to
incorporating the needs of the customer into the product /service benefits.
However managing the supply chain or value network requires increased financial and human
resources and businesses need to be confident that they will receive a future return on their
investment . This is particularly more relevant to the development of smaller enterprises due to their
resource constraints.
Supply chain management (SCM) is based on the philosophy that firms operating in a supply chain
are oriented to the provision of goods and services for the 'final customer' (Lambert and Cooper,
2000) . The literature strongly suggests that that cohesive collaboration in the supply chain can
provide important benefits such as added value, efficiencies and client satisfaction (Stock, Boyer

Answer 1:
1.1 Forecasting is the basic and initial step in supply chain planning. Matching supply and demand
is at the heart of operational planning. As most of the production systems fail to give an
instantaneous response to customer demand, forecast of future demand is very necessary to make
efficient and effective operational plans. Plant, process, and labour capacity are all set based on the
forecasts of future demand. The facility decisions and the capacity planning are mainly based on
long–term aggregate forecasts. Proper inventory levels are planned based on the short–term
forecasts at a disaggregated level since specific components and end items are stocked for
immediate customer demand. Forecast is an important step in the supply chain planning because
most of the functional areas of the firm are affected by forecasts. For example, production planning
should be done by manufacturing on a day to day basis to meet the customer needs. Forecasts are
supposed to be understood by the finance to make a proper level of investment in the plant,
equipment, and inventory so that the budgets are constructed for a better management of business.
Proper allocation of resources for different product groups and marketing function campaigns are to
be known by the marketing function. Forecasts helps the human resources function in hiring and
training decisions when the demand is expected to grow, by determining the labour requirements of
the firm.

Chapter Review 1–3 Chapter One: Introduction To Supply Chain Management A Supply Chain is
the steps necessary for a manufacturer to procure materials, build a product, and transport the
product to consumers. The consumers buy the products based on a combination of cost, quality,
availability, maintainability and reputation factors. They hope these products will live up to their
needs and expectations. An example of a supply chain that I was involved in while serving in the Air

This is also likely to lower raw material inventory and total assets. E–Procurement brought many
benefits to companies. It has proven to be a time saver and cost effective. It is more accurate as the
information is only entered once instead of twice. Before the users had to enter the information and
the buyer had to reenter the information creating another error point in the process. E–procurement
is more flexible as it can be used without the restrictions of location or time of day. Status of orders
can be looked at without having to check paper trails. There are different reasons why a firm may
use a single supplier instead of favoring multiple suppliers. Using a single supplier gives a firm the
chance to build a stronger relationship with the supplier. Costs would be lower due to larger
purchases keeping the cost per unit down and transportation would be cheaper as the firm can take
advantage of full truckloads. Single sourcing would also make sense if the firm's requirements are
too small. It would not be worthwhile to split the order among multiple suppliers. There is a
disadvantage with sole sourcing as well. If the purchase was for a proprietary product or process and
the supplier holds the patents to them, the firm has no choice but to buy from them. Multiple
sourcing is advantageous for many reasons. If the demand is greater than the capacity of a single
supplier,

Supply Chain is a system of organizations, people, activities, information and resources related to
the transfer of products or services from suppliers (supply chains) to customers. Supply chain
operations involve converting natural resources, raw materials and components into a finished
product to be delivered to the end customer. In complex supply chain systems, the products used can
re–enter the supply chain at any point where the residual value can be recycled. Supply chain links
the value chain. Supply chain management includes all planning and management related to supply,
procurement, conversion, and logistics management activities. Equally important is that it also
involves coordination with partner channels such as vendors, intermediaries, third–party service
providers, and customers. Essentially, supply chain management integrates supply and demand
management within and outside the company. Supply chain management is an integrated function
with the primary responsibility for connecting the core business functions and business processes
within companies into a high–performance and engagement business model. It covers all of the

The supply chain management basically involves processes and activities which are involved in the
planning, organising, controlling and implementing the cost effective flow of goods from the point
of origin to the point of consumption. The whole process will have different players like the
supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailers and the customers themselves as the end point of
consumption. The supply chain has changed drastically over the years. This days they are very
global in nature. Involving various complex interactions and flow of goods, data and funds between
companies which are situated in different countries and continents. Even though the companies are
spread across the world the manufacturing plants generally follow a similar structure which
normally comprises of the suppliers, manufacturing plants, distributors, retailers, inbound and
outbound logistics providers. There were a lot of challenges which arose because of the competition
which made the companies to rethink their strategies in order to get the product to the right place at
the right time at the lowest cost possible. The companies should always look at improving the whole
supply chain and every player in the chain should coordinate with one another if they want to
increase the efficiency. The organisation should realise the strategic importance of supply chain as it
is a key to building a sustainable competitive edge. (Li, Ragu–Nathan, Ragu–Nathan, & Rao, 2006).

whether a company's processes are harnessing resources in the best way possible, whether those
resources are financial, human, technological or physical" (Borgström, 2016, pp. 2). Supply chain
management involves strategic decision making processes at many levels, from the strategic level
through the tactical to the operational level, relating to design, planning and operation of the supply
chain, because these three subjects have a strong impact on the overall profitability, efficiency,
competitiveness and success of the supply chain (Simchi–Levi et al, 2010). Figure 1: Strategic
management processes (Monczka, 2000)
The changing global business context has contributed to the growing strategic importance of
sourcing, purchasing and supply chain management. To achieve competitive advantage, companies
have to design their supply chain efficient to meet the customer needs better than their competitors
(Weele, 2014). The supply chain design (also known as supply chain strategy) is a plan how to
structure and organize the supply chain for an x period of time based on the marketing and pricing

33. A Cloud Supply Chain Management
A Cloud Supply Chain Management approach to Small Business
Small businesses are entering into a new era where older value systems and relationships are
changing into digital ecosystems with emerging complex relationships.
In the book, Being Digital, Nicholas Negroponte––the Director of MIT 's Media Lab––introduces a
simple and powerful model for describing and predicting the effects of digital technology on
information exchange; he suggests that we 're moving from a time where information is traded as
atoms or Evian bottles to a time where information is traded as bits. He suggests further that moving
from atoms to bits will have a particular sociological effect: "As we interconnect ourselves, many of
the values of a nation–state will give way to those of both larger and smaller electronic
communities. We will socialize in digital neighborhoods in which physical space will be irrelevant
and time will play a different role. Twenty years from now, when you look out a window, what you
will see may be five thousand miles and six time zones away" (Negroponte, 2015).
Small business needs to be digitally wired due to the merging of physical boundaries with the
stateless digital technology. If a small business doesn't reinvent itself in the modern digital sphere, it
will lose its existence due to technological disruption. Embracing and integrating the modern cloud
technologies into every aspect of the business (Manufacturing, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales and
services) is

35. Supply Chain Management Value Of Supply Chains
Paper Heading:
Supply Chain Management–Value of Supply Chain
Introduction:
Supply chain management is a complex undertaking that must involve more than one organization's
efforts to succeed. A tremendous amount of skill, time, and money must be present to build and
develop relationships, discover and implement a strategy, and use the capabilities of the chain to
build quality at an efficient financial rate. Allowing for these requirements, it leaves one to wonder
whether supply chain management is a viable option. The answer is yes, because an organization
needs a strong supply chain to compete and be profitable in the marketplace. The key points for
supply chain management should be to meet customer demand, produce excellent customer value,
enhance responsiveness to change, build a network that can resist risk, and develop financial
success.
Discussion:
The simplest level of supply chain management is to make inventory readily available to meet
customer demand. Without inventory, there is nothing available to draw customers in. Through their
resources, organizations must meet supply with demand in a timely fashion. Supply chain partners
should work together to increase resource productivity, develop standardized processes, and
minimize the level of inventory. These steps will reduce an organization's waste, costs, and raise
supply chain efficiency.
Reducing supply chain expenses is always a top priority for companies. Any aspect of supply chain
operations can become

37. Walmart : Supply Chain Management
The company I think that has been successful at transforming its business practices related to supply
chain management is Walmart. In 1962, the first Walmart was open, so was Target and Kmart. Sam
Walton was the founder of Walmart. Mr. Walton was known for his ways of being cheap in business
and in his personal life. Walmart was mainly a success because of Mr. Walton's wanted to keep costs
low and then use the cost advantage to lower down prices even more than they were. After he did
this he could then turn around and increase his volume in a product. It went round and round and
now, Walmart stands as one of the largest retail stores globally. Within the last ten years, Walmart
has become one of the world's largest retailer stores. Walmart ... Show more content on

Target and Kmart and other business alike were forced to try and compete against Walmart's highly
competitive pricing. Walmart then wanted to come up with a better structure for a more advance
supply chain management strategy, because they had the competitive advantage and wanted to make
even more money while still able to have a low cost to the customers. Walmart focus on cost all
along turned out to be the right thing to focus on. Their focus on costs turned to logistics, and
Walmart definitely had the lead in using technology. This allowed Walmart to developed different
logistics structures to drive down the costs, years earlier than Target, Kmart and everyone else in the
business.
The supply chain management that Walmart used, had many different elements and stages to it.
Some of these stages included the purchasing, operations, distribution, and integration. This supply
chain management process begins usually with purchasing. The purchasing managers of companies
or sometimes the buyers are responsible for determining which products and services their company
will sell or are in the need for. The mangers or buyers will then use a strategy for obtaining the
products at the best price from the suppliers. Then the managers or buyers will then discuss and
come to an agreement which is profitable to all that is

1. Introduction
Supply Chain Management (SCM) has been defined by Supply Chain Management Institute to be
"the management of relationships in the network of organizations, from end customers through
original suppliers, using key cross–functional business processes to create value for customers and
other stakeholders"(SCM–Institute, 2016).
Samsung's supply chain management has several operational core processes and each process has its
own complex design. Therefore, this paper will focus on one main process, the filfullment order
process. This paper describes Samsung Electronics SCM operation practices, analysis its fulfillment

A supply chain is the system where an organization and its people, activities, information, and

processes and then distribute channels helps to deliver the product to customers. It is a connected
series of activities which includes planning, coordinating and controlling materials either parts or
finished product and then supply to the customer. There are two different flows in the supply chain,
material and information starts with supply and ends in consumption. (Stevens, 1989) Very recently

Air transportation is costly, but fast and reliable. Other modes of transportation may be cheaper, but
the sacrifice has to hold inventories due to delays that may occur. If the above decisions are made
with careful and strategic thought as well as with concern for integration, the supply chain should be
efficient and successful.
The complete goal of SCM is to optimize supply chains in an endeavor to provide more accurate
and time sensitive information that can be used to improve process times and cut costs. Supply
chains have been around for decades and a constantly being improved. The newest opportunity for
improvement is the introduction of Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. RFID technology
will provide real–time information that will allow manufacturers to get better readings of customers
and markets thus further improving supply chains. RFID will help retailers provide the right
products at the right places at the right times. Finally, maximizing sales and profits.

49. Supply Chain Management Of Supply Chains
Introduction
With the acceleration of global economic integration, the 21st century has become the century of
competition in the supply chain, not just a simple competition between enterprises. In order to win
the competition in the supply chain, which means it must be through the management of the supply
chain. Currently supply chains become more integrated, more global, the high–speed development
of information technology has become an important driving force. In this report will explore the
development of supply chain management technologies and important role.
Supply chain and technologies role
Supply chain is the logistic network among suppliers, manufacturing centers, warehouses,
distribution centers, retail and customers. It is about the flow and inventory of raw materials,
manufactured goods and fished goods. The core logistics supply chain management is to satisfy
customer needs. In order to meet requirements it is necessary to minimize enterprises operating cost.
It can make enterprises more competitive, and is the key point of success supply chain management.
However due to the supply chain simultaneously connect suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and
even customers, is a complex network, each link have hidden many risks, is easily affect the supply
chain companies. Therefore, the use of the necessary control measures to ensure the smooth
operation of the supply chain become preconditions to earn profit.

pursuing best–of–breed projects face the migraine–inducing process of juggling new versions of

vertical and horizontal. Vertical keiretsu illustrates the organization and relationships within a

There could be potentially higher costs due to low efficiencies resulting from lack of supplier

may compromise existing competencies. I believe vertical integration is the best choice for the
company given its type and the market conditions. I believe the tool company should adopt it,

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Supply chain management is a major concern in many industries as companies realize the
importance of creating an integrated relationship with their suppliers and customers. Managing the
supply chain has become a way of improving competitiveness by reducing uncertainty and
improving service. One aspect of successfully managing the supply chain requires that a company
understand their logistical strategies and practices.
Personal interviews with logistics managers employed by firms from the Twin Cities Round Table

Logistics as be defined by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals is the process of
planning, implementing, and controlling procedures for the efficient and effective transportation and
storage of goods including services, and related information from the point of origin to the point of
consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer requirements. This definition includes
inbound, outbound, internal, and external movements (Vitasek, 2013). Reverse logistics (RL), can
happen at any point within the supply chain, so therefore, RL can be defined as the process of
planning, implementing, and controlling the flow of raw materials, in–process inventory, finished
goods and related feedback from the point of consumption, the customer, to the point of origin for
the purpose of either disposal, refurbishing, reuse, or reallocation in a cost effective manner to
recapturing value.
RL has become increasingly important in the logistics community and in the United States Army it
has become one of the most important actions that supply chain managers perform. Civilian and
military logistics have the share same baseline methodology, however, the focus on logistics and
supply chain efficiency in the military has recently gained the appropriate level of importance. The
Army, in recent years has realized that focusing on RL saves money and keeps a very large
organization with an extensive supply chain moving. This paper examines the U.S. Army's RL

Transfer some of what are traditional internal activities and resources of a firm to outside vendors,
making it slightly different than the traditional make–or–buy decision. Outsourcing is part of the

5. SUPPLY–CHAIN STRATEGIES
For goods and services to be obtained from outside sources, the firm must decide on a supply–chain

few suppliers to satisfy the end customer. A third strategy is vertical integration, where firms may
decide to use vertical backward integration by actually buying the supplier. A fourth variation is a
combination of few suppliers and vertical integration, known as keiretsu. In a keiretsu, suppliers

Supply chain management includes, but is not limited to, new product development, marketing,
operations, distribution, finance, and customer service (Chopra and Meindl, 2001). The flow of
supply chain management can be divided into three main flows; I have outlined it in the diagram
below to show how each flow is interconnected to the other.
Figure 1. The three flows of supply chain management.
As outlined by the diagram above, the supply chain management process contains different flows
that work in accordance with each other so that effectiveness can be optimized and maintained. The
product flow includes the movement of goods from suppliers and ends up in the hands of the
customer. The information flow involves transmitting orders and updating delivery status. The
financial flow involves credit terms, payment schedules, consignment and title ownership
arrangements. Although the just–in–time system had been around for a while; it was not until the
early 1980's when most companies in the United States started to adopt the concept (Mawhinney
Presutti Jr., 2007). Business executives started to recognize the overwhelming potential that
effective supply chain management had to offer. Business executives have come to realize that
supply chain management can help achieve the businesses objectives on four dimensions – costs,
quality, response time and flexibility.

71. The Supply Chain Management System
Supply Chain Management is defined as the oversight of materials, information, and finances as
they move in a course of action from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer.
It includes numerous activities such as coordinating and integrating these flows both within and
amid companies. By directing the supply chain, companies are able to cut excess fat and provide
products faster. This is done by keeping tighter control of internal inventories, internal production,
distribution, sales and the inventories of the company 's product purchasers, therefore completing
the objective in a Supply Chain Management system by decreasing inventory. However there are
risks taken by companies as the globalization of their supply chain is paired with concerns about the
quality of products that are made in other countries may not meet regulatory standards, therefore
puts their products in jeopardy of being recalled. This means that supply chain managers are
responsible for ensuring suppliers and their products maintain safety and quality standards. Recalls
or safety issues can damage a company's reputation.
As I was reading an article online about Toyota, I realized that Toyota was in a similar situation as
they recalled 7.5 million cars around the world so they can fix faulty power window switches that
can potentially catch a fire. Toyota had issues using the right amount of grease to coat the switches.

Institution
Abstract
Purpose – To analytically assess current changes in the theory and practice of supply management
and through this assessment identify possible barriers, and key trends.
Design approach – The paper is based on an exhaustive study of eight supply chains which included
ten companies in America. Managers from at least four levels of the supply chain were interviewed,
and the supply chains were outlined and observed.

practice and theory. The paper identifies an array of the main barriers and enablers to supply
management and ends with a valuation of the key trends.
Research limitations– The research presents some limitations to current thinking about supply
approach and supply chain management. It reveals the considerable gaps between practice and
theory.
Practical effects – A dominant challenge concerns which could or should manage the supply chain.
Obstacles to effective supply management are outlined, and some practical steps to overcome them
also suggested.

Thousands of activities are performed and coordinated within an organization, and every company
at least one supply chain relationship with another organization. Research has led to the conclusion
that the structure of activities within and between companies is a critical cornerstone of creating
unique and superior supply chain performance (Lambert, 2005). Successful supply chain
management requires integrating business processes with key members of the supply chain, because
valuable resources are wasted when supply chains are not effectively managed. Standard business
processes enable managers from different organizations in the supply chain to use a common
language and link–up their organizations' processes with other members of the ... Show more

The hotel serves many different customer segments. During the weekdays, the primary customers
are corporate travelers. On the weekends, holidays, and during the summer months there is a mixed
customer base that consists of both corporate and leisure travelers.
The supply chain processes of this hotel are not atypical, however many other hotel chains are
beginning to centralize the purchasing function. This change will strengthen the position of the
purchase manager in the organization and enable a neutral centralized body that can coordinate and
consolidate the disparate hotel purchasing operations (Bhattacharya, Upadhye Dham, 2004). An
example of the cost savings can be found at a major hotel in Latin America that operates several
chains with numerous hotels per chain that moved to a Shared Services Center across all their hotel
chains for procurement, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. In the past, each individual hotel
had its own separate business process for these functions. They have increased productivity and
estimate $2.5 million to $3.5 million in annual benefits (Hausman, 2005).
In addition to centralizing the purchasing function, ordering is now being done over the Internet so
that shipments can be tracked and delivery dates calculated. Internet based inbound transportation

Supply Chain Management (SCM
The average company spends nearly half of every dollar it earns on production needs–goods and
services it needs from external suppliers to keep producing. A supply chain consists of all parties
involved, directly or indirectly, in the procurement of a product or raw material. Supply chain
management (SCM) involves the management of information flows between and among stages in a
supply chain to maximize total supply chain effectiveness and profitability.
In the past, companies focused primarily on manufacturing and quality improvements within their
four walls; now their efforts extend beyond those walls to influence the entire supply chain
