Summary of the Book Divergent
In post–apocalyptic Chicago, the city is divided into five factions. Each faction is composed of
qualities the members believe will eradicate the qualities that once led the world to destruction. The
Abnegation believe in selflessness and humility, they always put others before themselves and they
live to serve for the greater good. Members of Abnegation are chosen to be on the council to make
decisions for the greater good of the city. The Erudite faction seeks knowledge, because they believe
that ignorance paved the road for destruction of the past government. Candor seeks to always tell the
truth, no matter the consequences. The people of Amity are peace–seekers who will do anything to
maintain tranquility throughout the city. The Dauntless members are brave and believe in
conquering their fears. Beatrice Prior is born to an Abnegation family and she is always instructed to
put other people's needs before her own. She is only allowed to look in a mirror every few months
when her mother cuts her hair and she wears the same dull, gray clothes as the rest of her faction.
Beatrice admires how the Abnegation society works and how selfless her mother and her brother,
Caleb, can be, but she never truly feels like she belongs. She looks to the Dauntless crowd with
admiration as she passes them by and often finds herself thinking of the life she would have as a part
of their faction. Once a year, the sixteen–year–olds from each faction are administered an aptitude
test to

The Importance Of A Staff On Your Server
The reasons I believe that I would like to be staff on your server is Helping Out Chat, Finding
Hackers, Dealing with Lagouts and well–making everyone who plays OxPvp Happy. I also want to
be staff to improve the community how good or how bad it is.I want staff to show that I am a helpful
player and that I can be active and put myself to good use on this staff team. Even though this isn 't
look or that detailed it doesn 't matter. All that matters is in–game. Not an application, applications
are to get you a position but not to show how good you really are at being staff. You can be the best
writer ever, and be the worst staff ever. All I need is a chance at this spot to prove to you that I am
worthy of Trial–Moderator. You may ask why should we pick you from other people? Well I think
you should pick me because I love to help out people that are in need. I always love helping out
people in Teamspeak and In–Game if they have any problems and other staff are busy. I will help
people with there spawner problems and other bugs. I will also report a lot of bugs/lag on the server
and be nice to members and other staff members. Also what I say in this app is all true but I
sometimes forget to add more details and you really don 't get to learn what I know. I 'm an HCF
player, and I know the struggles that the players may go through. I have a really good attitude in
teamspeak, and I stay calm no matter what, even if I 'm working with an extremely disrespectful
player. I 'm really

Identity And Identity In Divergent, By Veronica Roth
How would you feel if the rest of your life was chosen for you based on a simulation? How would
you feel if you were to choose to become brave, honest, selfless, compassionate, or intelligent?
What if the choice you made meant that you would never be able to visit your family again? In a
rigidly structured, dystopian futuristic Chicago in a book called Divergent there is a young woman
named Beatrice Prior ("Tris") that will make the ultimate choice. This book is written by Veronica
Roth, who writes young adult fiction, specifically the Divergent series followed by Insurgent and
Allegiant. In the book Divergent the characters' choices are strongly impacted by the societies they
live in. This society is broken into five factions: Abnegation, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, and Amity,
each specializing in a specific character trait such as selflessness, bravery, intelligence, honesty, and
compassion. Children are brought up in their own factions, learning the values of their people, until
they turn sixteen where they choose which faction they'll belong to for the rest of their life. Tris
grew up in Abnegation, where she feels as if she doesn't belong, but at the age of sixteen, she has to
choose which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the book, Tris tries to figure out who she is. But her identity isn't just about what's
inside. It's also about her relationships with family and friends (and society in general). Her main
identity is that she's Divergent. That means no matter how much she tries to fit in, none of the
factions will truly define who she is. "As of yesterday, I technically became Dauntless, but I don't
feel like one. And I am not Abnegation, either. I guess I am what I have always been. Not Dauntless,
not Abnegation, not factionless. Divergent." (Roth 205–6) She is forced to make difficult choices
throughout the book. In the first and last chapter of the book, the author illustrates that identity is a
major theme in this

Self/Peer–Evaluation Assignment
Self–Evaluation:
Using the rubric on the back, what participation grade do you believe you earned in the Athens
game? Explain and justify your estimation in 2 or more sentences.
I believe that I received an A for participation because I attended every class/game session. During
every session, I spoke on the issue(s) at hand, while referencing the book and the works provided in
the book. I understood the goals of my faction and character and tried to persuade others to see the
issues the way the Oligarchs saw them.
Did you accomplish the goals of your character/ your faction? Explain.

If I would have spoken, Socrates might have been given more amnesty and might still be in Athens.
Was there a moment in the game where it finally clicked, where you finally felt "in" the game"?
Explain.
During an outside meeting with the Followers of Socrates the game finally made sense to me. I was
outside of class talking in character to other classmates; I was finally making the connections the
book said I would need to make. The rest of the game seemed easier after I gained a greater
understanding of the purpose of the game.
If you could go back in time to the beginning of the game, knowing what you know now about the
game experience, what piece of advice would you offer? What do you wish you knew then?
I wish I would have known that collaboration with other factions and the indeterminates was a must
to succeed in the game. If I had known this at the beginning of the game, I would have been more
proactive in contacting the indeterminates to determine which faction they might have been siding
with.
Collaboration
One purpose of the game is to help students to develop better collaborative and leadership skills.
Part of this is identifying one 's own strengths and weaknesses in this regard while also realizing
what makes an effective working group and what does not.

1. Madison says that "complaints are everywhere heard from our most considerate and virtuous
citizens"–what are these complaints that people make.
a. "...that our governments are too unstable, that the public good is disregarded in the conflicts of
rival parties, and that measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the
rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority."
2. Are these complaints valid in Madison's view?
a. Yes, even though he wished that they were not true, he couldn't deny the facts that showed all of
these complaints to be true.

a. "You make it less probable that a majority of the whole will have a common motive to invade the
rights of other citizens; or if such a common motive exists, it will be more difficult for all who feel it

may be remarked that, where there is a consciousness of unjust or dishonorable purposes,
communication is always checked by distrust in proportion to the number whose concurrence is
necessary."

1. Madison says that the key is that "each department should have a will of its own"–how is it
possible to ensure the independence of each department?
a. "it would require that all the appointments for the supreme executive, legislative, and judiciary
magistracies should be drawn from the same fountain of authority, the people, through channels
having no communication whatever with one another."
2. What does Madison rely on to prevent one branch of government from encroaching on
another...virtue or ambition? What does this imply about the founders' view of human nature?
a. Ambition, human nature shows that men inherently put their own self above others. He does not
look at this as a flaw, but as something to be accepted since it cannot be changed. Humans are not
angels, and that is the reason we need a government.

Divergent, By Veronica Roth
"Divergent", by Veronica Roth is a compelling adventure/dramatic novel. Published in 2011,
Divergent is one out of a series of three books. It shines a light on Beatrice Prior's life, and the
decisions she makes throughout the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and ended up reading it
twice. Divergent would be a great choice for someone who enjoys adventurous stories with many
plot twists. The main characters are an important part of the story, as the book revolves around the
decisions they make. Beatrice Prior, better known as Tris, is the main character of the story. Stuck
between two very difficult decisions, she makes a choice that tears her and her family apart.
Tobias Eaton, who only goes by Four, is another main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initiates can then follow what the test reveals or choose their own. Once organized and ready,
the time comes for the young adults to determine their future. Called out one by one, they make their
way to the five metal bowls (each representing a different faction), then use a ceremonial knife to
cut open their hand and let their blood drip into the bowl of the faction they want to continue life in.
Each new initiate then stands in an area near the faction they decided on. Immediately shocked by
her results from her aptitude test, Tris finds that she is actually Divergent, a faction shunned out
from society for being unpredictable and dangerous. Petrified of losing reputation, family, and
everything she has worked for, she chooses Dauntless as her faction. In this faction, Tris meets
another Divergent concealed as a Dauntless and they work together. Jeanine Matthews, the
despicable leader of the Erudite faction, uses a serum that forwards every member of the Dauntless
faction into a simulation. This stimulation allows the members to be aware of their surroundings but
not able to control themselves or their actions. The stimulation forces the Dauntless army of
uncontrolled 'slaves' to enter the Abnegation faction, and they proceed to kill all the members.
Jeanine Matthews' master plan was to kill every faction and have Erudite rule the government. As
Tris and Four are concealed Divergents, the serum fails to work on them and they continue to go

Reflection About Divergent
The entire lives of the citizens in Divergent are determined by what they are in. The only freedom
that they are granted is the ability to choose their faction. There are five factions with a personality
type and those are Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (happiness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless
(brave), and Erudite (knowledge). I do not think the factions represent every basic personality. There
are some people like Tris who are just not one personality type. I think I would create one that could
be for the people who failed the test or feel like they belong to more than one faction.
The reason behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I
believe that the factions are working because Tris's society, the factions have held together the
structure in her community. In Tris's society, the fact that they do not have a lot of choices is not
really making the society better. Something else that does not help, is that the divergents have to
hide.
A faction I think I would have been born into is candor because of my family valuing honesty. I
would have wanted to choose Erudite because of the knowledge and intelligence. At the age of
sixteen, I would not feel that comfortable choosing my faction because at that age you are not very
experienced. You are young and could make the wrong choice.
A choice that I have made that had changed me is to be more positive. Some future choices that I
will also make is to not let certain things and opinions

Political Factions
For the majority of us, government often seems like nothing more than a distant and unrelatable
amalgamation of esoteric arguments and oceans of rules and regulations. Nevertheless, government
touches us all– and not just during tax season. For better or worse, governments all over the world
form the backbone of society as we know it. For this reason, it becomes relevant for us as citizens
and residents to pose certain fundamental questions. The most significant being one that is
consequential to all civilized persons, "What is the appropriate role of government in the lives of
citizens?" Another overarching question particular to the United States is, "What is the appropriate
balance of federal and state power, and what should each respective ... Show more content on

The formation of Factions is a totally natural and to be expected. Different people want different
things. The two biggest examples of factions are the left and right sides of the political spectrum. On
one end, the left, you have the liberal– people open to new and different ideas, believe in the
importance of helping each other, and believe that government needs to be involved in social issues
in order to provide equality. On the other end, the right, you have the conservative– people who are
determined to uphold established ways of thinking, believe in the importance of self reliance, and
believe that government should stay out of social issues in order to protect freedom. What happens
when these two large factions do not agree? Absolutely nothing, as demonstrated by today's
government. Madison was worried about this problem and asserted that it was necessary for a
national government consisting of a single party to exist in order to counteract the polarizing and
paralyzing effects of factions among the states. As they act as a further separation of power, factions
do have their benefits. However, having the federal government become a more party–neutral
environment could greatly help to avoid some of the problems we see today; the federal government
could keep the states and their factions in check and make sure things actually get

1. One of my best assets that I could see me using to be a great helper is my patience and my

not banned falsely or let go when they were actually hacking. I am familiar with common
screenshare tools such as Blsquad and Sarefine SS tool. I know where to/how to find hacks and/or
illegal mods. If placed in a situation where I need to screenshare, I am able to easily control and
complete the screenshare in a timely manner. I can tell the difference between laggers and hackers,
which, sadly, some staff members I have met on other servers can't. One last advantage that comes
with my knowledge of screensharing, is that I can do reverse psychology on most people. It's simple

Character
The main character in the book Divergent is a girl named Beatrice. Beatrice is developed throughout
the book by having to do things that push her out of her comfort zone. Beatrice was born in the

Beatrice doesn't feel like she is selfless. She decides to change to the faction of Dauntless, who

A player must demonstrate initiative to gain the trust and support of a tribe. Though efforts against
them can prove counteractive, taking away a tribe's support and just the basis of being aligned to

Critical Summary Of Insurgent
Choice As was true of its precursor, Insurgent mainly revolves around the theme of choices and in
the manner they can change you. After all, the book's tagline is "one choice can destroy you." In
Insurgent, all of Tris's decisions had main drawback, as she determined whether or not to enter risky
situations, to fib to Tobias, and even to surrender herself. With so much on the line, Tris's choices
involve not only her, but everybody around her. As the cycle goes on, option left just as important,
but the stakes get upper and upper Division The entire group system is based around separating
people up and creating diverse groups with limitations between them. Insurgent illustrates how these
divisions generate an "us vs. them" attitude that eventually brings it to ruin. In this novel, schism
also happen within these groups: Dauntless splits into faithful and conspirator, Abnegation is broken
, Erudite imperfection from Jeanine and her following, and Johanna and other Amity tear from their
section when they do not have the same point of view with the result to stay straightforward . These
divisions are what eventually creates so much annihilation, and as Tris learns time and yet again that
it is not possible to complete snooty goals when you are separated down in the center. Trust and
Honesty With much of this novel taking place in Candor nerve center, it is to be expected that trust
and honesty figure vastly into the theme. Tris and Tobias's relationship is put under harm

Analysis Of The Article ' Of Rutabagas And Redeemers '...
In the years following the civil war, the Democratic Party within Texas was divided in many ways
by a variety of issues. Though united against Republicans and their liberal Reconstruction policies,
Texas Democrats in this period came from a variety of backgrounds and had unique motivations
driving their political sentiments. In the article "Of Rutabagas and Redeemers: Rethinking the Texas
Constitution of 1876," Patrick Williams argues against the pervasive characterization of the key
factions in the Democratic Party during the constitutional convention consisting of agrarian versus
business minded or "new South" interests. Williams contends that although convention
contemporaries including noted "Rutabaga" (a semi–derogatory term for a delegate in league with
the Grange) John Johnson came to believe that the constitution of 1876 represented the triumph of
farmers and their allies against corporate driven "progressive" Democrats and their policies, the
political reality was much more complicated. To begin his assessment of the factional politics
surrounding the constitution of 1876 and the "Redeemer" convention that fashioned it, Williams
points out that several historians who have discussed post–Civil war southern politics including
Michael Perman, J. Morgan Kousser, and Seth McKay do indeed ascribe to the paradigm of the rise
of the agrarian "rutabaga" over the "new South" cosmopolitan businessman. He attributes this
perpetuation of the agrarian myth to contemporary

Divergent by Veronica Roth Essay example
In life, each person, book, movie, and much more contains a worldview or outlook on life as a
whole. Lao Tzu states that a worldview is, "When people see some things as beautiful, other things
become ugly. When people see some things as good, other things become bad." Despite the fact that
most people, movies, books, and other components in life do not realize that they have a worldview,
in reality, they actually do. One specific example of an element in society that contains a worldview,
is the action–filled and world–renowned book entitled Divergent. This specific element contains a
striking plotline, worldview, and purpose in order to catch the attention of people around the world.
Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is no exception in the book Divergent. The society in Divergent split into five distinct factions
known as Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. From this information, one can infer
the worldview depicted in this novel is that one choice defines who a person is forever. This
worldview is seen all throughout the book, due to the author's focus on choice. The characters are
forced to choose which faction they wish to reside in, thus possibly leaving all that they previously
had known and grown accustomed to. This reality is brutally true for Beatrice Prior as she is forced
to come to grips with making this type of decision. Upon making her ultimate decision to join
Dauntless she states, "This is what I chose. This is it." Numerous other decisions are put in front of
Beatrice Prior throughout the plot, therefore proving the worldview in Divergent to be rooted in
decisions and choices. These choices, in turn, have a long–term effect on someone's life. The
worldview in any novel is brought to life by the author. Taking a look at the author of Divergent,
known as Veronica Roth, one immediately comes to the conclusion that she is a believer and
follower of Jesus Christ. She freely professes her faith and love for the Lord; therefore, one can see
the intricate parallels from Divergent to the Scriptures. For example, the concept of one choice
defining the rest of a person's life or destiny is similar to the monumental choice made in the Garden
of Eden, which

Progressives versus Populists
The onset 20th Century holds two main movements: The Populists and The Progressives. These two
parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold diversities. The Populists party comprises
of farmers and poor whites in the south; they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The
Populists also call for government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which
includes a flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and men of
universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals through legislation and the
judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some
Progressives were actually a part of the Populist Party; they weren't contradictory parties. To

Divergent Reflection
Divergent is a great coming of age novel because the protagonist undergoes a transformative change
of character. In Divergent the main character Beatrice, whose name means voyageur, goes on a
journey that changes not only her name, but her social standing, physical and psychological well
being as well. The story begins with Beatrice being a member of the Abnegation faction. The
Abnegation faction values selflessness above all other virtues, and Beatrice has been raised to put
others before herself. Although her faction is a tight–knit community brought together by their
humanitarian ways, she is very introverted and withdrawn. When she "looks at the Abnegation
lifestyle as an outsider, [she] thinks it's beautiful. It's only when [she tries] to live it [herself] that
[she has] trouble. It never feels genuine" (Roth 36). She doesn't feel she belongs there and feels
guilty for having selfish tendencies. When Tris chooses to switch from Abnegation to Dauntless, she
begins to become more social. She becomes friends with Christina, another initiate, and states that
she has not "really had a friend before, period. It's impossible to have real friendship when no one
feels like they can accept help or even talk about themselves. That won't happen here. I already
know more about Christina than I ever knew about Susan, and it's only been two days" ( ). She is
starting to step outside of her comfort zone and is making more connections with the new people she
encounters than people

The Danger Of Factions By James Madison
The Danger of Factions James Madison warned, among several cautions, about factions, specifically
a tyranny of the majority, when writing under the alias as PUBLIUS in The Federalist Papers.
According to Madison in Federalist 10, a faction is a group of citizens, either a majority or minority,
who group together by a common purpose or goal (2013, pg. 628). He argued that when
governments are ruled by factions, "...the public good is disregarded...", and rulings of the
government are made by an "overbearing majority," instead of by the "...rules of justice and the
rights of the minor party..." (Madison 2013, pg. 628). However, in the two hundred plus years of
different opinions on how government should run and political polarization, factions, in some
fashion, have become a reality within the U.S. political system through the means of political
parties. The two major U.S. political parties are the Democrats and the Republicans, and they are in
a constant battle over who will control Congress and influence the policy–making process.
According to Madison, men are naturally driven to form factions due to differing opinions about
spiritual beliefs, government, as well as other reasons (Madison 2013, pg. 628). He stated that
factions have become "..inflamed... with mutual animosity, and... much more disposed to vex and
oppress each other than to co–operate for their common good" (Madison 2013, pg. 628). While
looking at current political conditions, Madison's theory may be just as

George Washington 's Farewell Address
In George Washington 's Farewell Address, Washington warns against the dangers of political
factions by stating, "it occurs as matter of serious concern that any ground should have been
furnished for characterizing parties by geographical discriminations, Northern and Southern,
Atlantic and Western; whence designing men may endeavor to excite a belief that there is a real
difference of local interests and views" (Washington). However, despite American leaders such as
George Washington and James Madison warning of factionalism, the country would be divided by
political parties arising out of the Northern and Southern states of the union. By the time Walt
Whitman wrote "Songs of Myself" in 1855, tensions in the United States created by factionalism
were at a high and were constantly elevating. In writing "Songs of Myself", Whitman sought to help
mend some of the wounds created by factionalism by seeking to bring together Americans whom
factionalism had rendered alien to one another and by teaching to believe in oneself rather than the
beliefs of political parties. When Washington wrote his Farewell Address, he had already made the
decision to retire from his job as president and return to his home on Mount Vernon. No longer was
he concerned with making a future for the country. Instead he was concerned with offering the
parting advice of an "old and affectionate friend". Washington offered his advice on a number of
different topics, but the most relevant topic to politics

The Political Factions, By Thomas Paine And James Chalmers
¬Though not entirely representative of their political factions, Thomas Paine and James Chalmers
are major literary figures in describing loyalist and anti–loyalist sentiments in pre–revolutionary
America. While Thomas Paine argued for America's independence, James Chalmers counters the
idea by proposing some of the possible negative consequences as well as down–playing the
perceived necessity of declaring independence. The major points of contention in both of their
arguments deal heavily with the outcome of the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War) including
the government actions that were imposed upon the American colonies as a result. By examining the
way in which they interpreted these events, one can gain insight into their contrasting political and
philosophical ideologies of pre–revolutionary America. Thomas Paine was a British–born citizen of
Pennsylvania whose formal education ended at only thirteen years old, but he chose to educate
himself in his free–time. He met Benjamin Franklin who then persuaded him to move to the
colonies. He introduced his views of an independent Continent very shortly before the American
Revolution, which heavily influenced many middle–of–the–road colonists. Common Sense is
arguably his most influential work, and it was decidedly written in such a manner that the common
folk could comprehend. In his famous pamphlet, he writes about government as a necessary evil,
state of nature, the problems of monarchial systems of government, the

Comparing Divergent And The Maze Runner
My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to
discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters were
not used to. Thomas(The Maze Runner protagonist)started off the book with him waking up inside
of a cargo box, traveling upwards at an incredibly high speed, and with only the memory of his
name. When Tris decided to join the Dauntless, she immediately had to adapt and change, from
jumping from trains and buildings to fighting someone until submission or decommission. To add
onto that, despite being both unfamiliar with their new lives, they were able to adapt fairly quickly
with Tris being first in the second and third round of initiation, and ... Show more content on

Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one who led them out
of the maze and one of the most important Gladers. On the other hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation
girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless. Eventually though she became one of the bravest
people in the story, fending off multiple Dauntless soldiers and stopping the Erudite. There were
also, quite obviously, going through very different situations. While, Tris had to fight her way to the
top ten, hide her Divergence, and save an entire faction, Thomas was trying to figure out what his
flashbacks meant, how he could get out of the maze, and why he had so much responsibility. Based
on all of this information, I believe that dystopian fiction really seems to focus on themes of
sacrifice, friendship, and most important of all, overthrowing "the system". For example, another
dystopian fiction novel that has all three of these themes is The Hunger Games. In the Hunger
Games, Katniss, the protagonist, risks her life for her sister's wellbeing, makes alliances with other
tributes and rebels, and attempts to overthrow the Capitol. The main plot point of Divergent was to
stop the Erudite, the most power–hungry of all five factions. Finally, Thomas stops WICKED, a
group of scientists that experimented on the Gladers. During all three of these dystopian fiction
novels the protagonists and their friends

Compare And Contrast Hunger Games And Divergent
The Hunger Games and Divergent demonstrate an exaggerated view of the extremes, society has
come to, to minimise the drastic effects and repercussions that the present has caused this future
dystopian society.
Both the societies of THG and Divergent similarly tried to minimize the problems in their world.
This is the illusion of goodness, to the fact that they have 'solved' all problems, they have used the
segregation of their people using physical boundaries, keeping their people divided or the unknown
away.As the mayor is recalling the events of the past, he says that "The result was Panem, a shining
Capitol ringed by thirteen districts, which brought peace and prosperity to its citizens." This uses a
metaphor to emphasize and exaggerate that the "shining" Capitol is surrounded and followed by the
other separate 13 districts. With the illusion that Panem the Capitol is the greatest and has saved
them (the other districts) and shows how the land of Panem has segregated their people, of high and
low classes. While Beatrice is getting ready for her aptitude test she says that it will help her choose
"... which of the five factions I belong in. ... I will decide the rest of my life; I will decide to stay

Divergent Anti Hero Essay
Amanda Schnur
ENG3U1
Ms. Kidd y–03–18 A Female Anti–Hero
In the movie "Divergent" directed by Neil Burger, the central character Beatrice, shows many
different characteristics of being an anti–hero. Beatrice Prior otherwise known as Tris is the main
protagonist character and the narrator of the film. She is a strong willed 16 year old who lives in a
society divided into groups called factions, based on individual human virtues. With her coming of
age, she must now choose one of the factions to live in for the rest of her life, Abnegation (selfless),
Erudite (intelligent), Candor (honest), Amity (peaceful) or Dauntless (brave). The definition of an
anti–hero would be the main or central character in a story, movie or play who does not ... Show

Tris does this because if the leader found out about her being Divergent, they would kill her so she
does not "bend" the rules. Tris is disappointed in herself at the beginning of the film because she
believes that she is not worthy of finding a faction and does not know where she belongs in society.
"Everyone knows where they belong, except for me" (Burger 2014) This is significant to the story
because it lets the viewers have an insight into Tris not being "normal" and gives us a heads up that
she is different from the rest. The movie lacks foreshadowing, as we are not evident at first of Tris
challenging all of societies beliefs. As the movie unfolds, you can start to put two and two together,
connecting the dots to see that Tris is Divergent, she will not ever fit into any group. She does not
follow the rules, she does not believe what others tell her and she does what she thinks is right and
not what is expected of her.
Signs of anti–heroism are also shown in Tris when she is misunderstood by society. Many of times
in the film, you could see the other characters becoming jealous and threatened by Tris because of
how well she does and her she accomplishments. When Tris was in the simulation and finishes in
three minutes, finishing before everyone

Summary: Minecraft Staff Experience
I have tons of staff experience. I've been playing Minecraft for about 5 years, so I know quiet a bit
about the game itself. Along the way of me playing Minecraft itself and learning it, I started to get
interest in becoming staff on servers.
(+) After about a year of playing Minecraft I got my first actual Staff position on ComplexPvP.
ComplexPvP was a Teams/SoupPvP server. Got a a bit of players, about 20–50 a day. I was staff
there for about a month. I started as Helper, then got to Admin and the server ended up shutting
down.
(+) Shortly after, I got staff on FriedChickenTeams which was also a SoupPvP/KitPvP server. I was
instantly promoted to Admin on there because I was friends with the Co–Owner after I applied.
(+) After FriedChickenTeams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was then thrown off the staff team because I was replaced with a YouTuber because the Owner
thought the server would get more publicity if there was a famous YouTuber that was Co–Owner. I
thought that was a very douche move of the Owner and never came back on the server for the
disrespect and the time I put into the server.
(+) After MCRefill I went from Mod to Owner in 2 days on a server called ElementalMC, it was a
very well made Factions server, got about 20 people on a day, (somedays over 50). I was very active
and helpful on there, the community really liked me and my decisions unfortunately, the main owner
ended up getting another Owner and him and I didn't get along so I ended up resigning due to all the
drama and damage they've caused to the server. The community was very upset about the Owners
making me resign. I ended up being banned shortly after for no reason, and I never returned or cared
for the server since.
(+) Recently, I created my own KitPvP/SoupPvP server that is somewhat known of. I usually got
like 10 players (give or take) on it per day, but it unfortunately shutdown due to lack of payments.
There are a couple other servers that I've been staff on, but I can't seem to remember them at the

Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Currently, I have been reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. It is about a faction–based society that
Tris Prior once believed in, but now due to violence, loss, and betrayal, it is shattered. So when she
and other Dauntless members, one of the factions, offered a chance to explored past the limits she's
known. She thinks that beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a new life together, free from lies,
untrue loyalties, and painful memories. However, when the group finally gets there, it is nothing as
she expected it to be. Old explanations are fake. New truths change the minds and hearts of those
she loves. Once again, Tris has to battle to discover the complexities of human nature and face
impossible choices using courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
As Allegiant begins, the new head of Chicago, Tobias' mother, considers the release of the video, a
video from the past about the factions, to be an act of rebellion for some unknown reason. Now, the
Factionless have control of the city, and they have dissolved the factions, which makes most people
angry. A new faction brews: the Allegiant; they believe in the authority of the released video and
wish to keep the breaking factions. Tris, Four and their Divergent friends find their way into the
Allegiant faction to form an escape plan. The group loses one beloved character along the way, but
they make it out of the city with ease. Before they get too far, they are met with other Divergent who
are waiting for them.

Characters from Divergent Series: Analysis of Tris Prior
"Faction before blood"(43). Tris Prior was born into the Abnegation faction. When they turn sixteen
they have to take an aptitude test which decides which faction they belong in. then, the next day at
the choosing ceremony then pick either to stay with their family in the faction they were born into or
pick another one to permanently live in. Tris Prior is a dynamic character because of her looks,
actions, and speech. Tris goes through many changes when she becomes Dauntless and leaves her
family in Abnegation, one of these being her appearance. When Tris belongs to the faction
Abnegation she is dressed in all gray from head to toe. Their clothing is very simple and boring. Tris
has to wear her hair in a bun and is only allowed to wear a watch. "Hides one's beauty, gray clothes
(gray robes, gray shirts, gray slacks), plain hairstyle"(6). The people of Abnegation try to hide ones
beauty and can do so by wearing all gray. Once Tris chooses to become apart of the Dauntless
faction she dresses in all black. The Dauntless members dress in all black, have piercings, tattoos,
and have unnatural hair colors. The Dauntless need to look fearless and brave. "She gives me a look.
"No. I will not cut my hair," I say, "or dye it a strange color. Or pierce my face." "How about your
bellybutton?" she says. The new Dauntless members have to leave behind the looks of their old

Analysis Of ' The Last Faction '
Part Two
Divergent is all about change and how it affects you and those around you and how decisions can
change your life forever. Because of war people have divided into factions so it is more peaceful and
the factions are;Candor, in this faction you always tell the truth and always have to be right. Another
is Amity in this faction you are very peaceful and you farm everything, in Dauntless you are like the
police you have to protect others and you have to be very daring. Abnegation these people are
selfless they don 't look in the mirror and always think about others before themselves they also
control the government. The last faction is Erudite they are the smart ones who know everything. In
the beginning of the book the main character named Beatrice belongs to Abnegation and she has to
take a test so it will tell her what faction she does belong too and she will have to choose, the test
told her that she was divergent. Being divergent is when you have a little bit of every faction in you
and it is very rare so she can 't tell anyone, so she had to choose a faction and she chose dauntless
which is the complete opposite of her old faction. She went to dauntless and trained with them and
wasn 't very good with fitting in but then she became stronger and more like them she changed her
name to Tris and got tattoos and became the total opposite from before. She met another Divergent

Unity In Divergent
Tris was forced to live in a dystopian society without knowing it. She grew up in Abnegation, (one
of the five factions). Tris thought that all there was in life was being selfless, but there is more. Tris
was tested to see what faction suits her. She had no idea what she would be. Little did she know that
she was Divergent. Tris was a mix of three contrasting factions. Being Divergent is more divers than
everyone else it can be dangerous but can it also be helpful? When some people read Divergent they
think that it is about bravery or being selfless. I think it's about something different. In Divergent
Veronica Roth displays that the book is not just about bravery. It's about being different and how
being different can help you fit in.
Early in the story Tris was supposed to be selfless because her current faction was based on
selflessness. She never really felt that she was selfless. For example Tris was miserable unlike the
average Abnegation on page 2 Tris explains that, "other factions celebrate birthdays, we don't that
would be self indulgent". Tris ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

traits. They break into contracting "groups", then there are some that wander and do different things
than just one specific subject. People who do this are distinct they do multiple things and that is
what makes them happy. Tris dose multiple thing she is interested in being more than just being
brave. She wonders and that is what makes her happy. If you are one of those people who feel that
you are only part of one group you might benefit from reading this because being split causes chaos
and being together sharing our differences in peace is the way I prefer to

Divergent Movie Analysis
Introduction: Divergent is an action film directed by Neil Burger. This film takes place in Chicago,
which is placed in a futuristic world where society divides people into five factions based on their
personalities. As each person grows up and becomes an adult they have to choose a faction which
they will stay in for the rest of their lives. Beatrice Prior is the main character in Divergent and she
changes a lot throughout the film, starting off as not knowing who she is and why she isn't like
everybody else. To finding out and learning who she is and becoming more confident in herself. The
director uses a variety of different film techniques including close–ups, and wide shots to show how
Tris is feeling, and how she is changing throughout Divergent. Paragraph 1: At the beginning of the
film, Tris is very quiet and naive. She was born into the faction Abnegation, "they live a simple life,
selfless, dedicated to helping others," this tells us that Tris's life isn't exciting and she was born to
put others before herself. When Tris is in her room, getting ready for the choosing ceremony where
she will get the chance to choose a new faction, the director uses an over the shoulder shot to show
her reflection in the mirror. Tris's face looks very nervous and scared as to what faction she will
choose and what it will be like. This helps the audience understand that she is quite anxious for a
new change and wonders if she is still a part of Abnegation, or will fit into

SOCIAL CLEAVAGES WITHIN THE POLITICAL STRUCTURES OF PALESTINE
The Intractable Conflict: What It Is & How Does it Correlate with the Political Factions of
Palestine? Intractable Conflicts go by many names, such as the Protracted Social Conflicts or the
Identity Related Conflicts. These are long conflicts that are self–sustaining, deep–rooted and the
product of long–lasting hatreds and wars; since WWII, which has made international politics
unpredictable and unstable.[footnoteRef:1] Most of these prolonged conflicts (not all) have had
international interventions or have involved superpowers that have made efforts to end the conflict

Articles Of Confederation Rhetorical Analysis
One of the most important documents written in American history, the Articles of Confederation,
was crucial to the foundation of American principles. However, there were many inherent flaws in
its making, which were addressed by a few different leaders. The Articles of Confederation paved
the way towards a successful country, but some of the problems would have sent the country
backwards. One of these problems was that for an amendment to be made to the Articles, every state
would have to agree, and Rhode Island never sent delegates to conventions to discuss these
amendments. This meant that there could never be flexibility in the amendments even when
necessary. This dilemma forced many elites of America to come together and completely rewrite ...

10 was one of the main factors that allowed for the ratification of the modern constitution and
government system. Idealistically, Madison's ideas about government are possibly the best possible
solution to the conflict of factions, yet in reality, Federalist No. 10 has been manipulated in ways
that separate people more than unite them. While Madison is probably right in that republicanism is
better than simply a popular democracy, his writing essentially did nothing but flip the party in
power. Before, the power was held by the majority common people, which was bad because only
their interests were being addressed, but after Madison wrote Federalist No. 10, the elite group was
the group from which delegates were being elected. Madison was one of the property owners, and
he feared that the common sort would prevent him from remaining in power so he had to switch the
way the system worked. Through his rhetorical analysis he convinced the people that electing
delegates was the way to go, and in the end only the members of the elite group were elected. He
wanted a government that protected the rights of the rich property owners from the common sort and
he was successful in doing so. He says "a rage for paper money" will hinder the abilities of those
elected and therefore should not be. This prevented anyone who was poor from being elected. Now,

Summary Of The Book Divergent

  • 1. Summary of the Book Divergent In post–apocalyptic Chicago, the city is divided into five factions. Each faction is composed of qualities the members believe will eradicate the qualities that once led the world to destruction. The Abnegation believe in selflessness and humility, they always put others before themselves and they live to serve for the greater good. Members of Abnegation are chosen to be on the council to make decisions for the greater good of the city. The Erudite faction seeks knowledge, because they believe that ignorance paved the road for destruction of the past government. Candor seeks to always tell the truth, no matter the consequences. The people of Amity are peace–seekers who will do anything to maintain tranquility throughout the city. The Dauntless members are brave and believe in conquering their fears. Beatrice Prior is born to an Abnegation family and she is always instructed to put other people's needs before her own. She is only allowed to look in a mirror every few months when her mother cuts her hair and she wears the same dull, gray clothes as the rest of her faction. Beatrice admires how the Abnegation society works and how selfless her mother and her brother, Caleb, can be, but she never truly feels like she belongs. She looks to the Dauntless crowd with admiration as she passes them by and often finds herself thinking of the life she would have as a part of their faction. Once a year, the sixteen–year–olds from each faction are administered an aptitude test to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of A Staff On Your Server The reasons I believe that I would like to be staff on your server is Helping Out Chat, Finding Hackers, Dealing with Lagouts and well–making everyone who plays OxPvp Happy. I also want to be staff to improve the community how good or how bad it is.I want staff to show that I am a helpful player and that I can be active and put myself to good use on this staff team. Even though this isn 't look or that detailed it doesn 't matter. All that matters is in–game. Not an application, applications are to get you a position but not to show how good you really are at being staff. You can be the best writer ever, and be the worst staff ever. All I need is a chance at this spot to prove to you that I am worthy of Trial–Moderator. You may ask why should we pick you from other people? Well I think you should pick me because I love to help out people that are in need. I always love helping out people in Teamspeak and In–Game if they have any problems and other staff are busy. I will help people with there spawner problems and other bugs. I will also report a lot of bugs/lag on the server and be nice to members and other staff members. Also what I say in this app is all true but I sometimes forget to add more details and you really don 't get to learn what I know. I 'm an HCF player, and I know the struggles that the players may go through. I have a really good attitude in teamspeak, and I stay calm no matter what, even if I 'm working with an extremely disrespectful player. I 'm really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Identity And Identity In Divergent, By Veronica Roth How would you feel if the rest of your life was chosen for you based on a simulation? How would you feel if you were to choose to become brave, honest, selfless, compassionate, or intelligent? What if the choice you made meant that you would never be able to visit your family again? In a rigidly structured, dystopian futuristic Chicago in a book called Divergent there is a young woman named Beatrice Prior ("Tris") that will make the ultimate choice. This book is written by Veronica Roth, who writes young adult fiction, specifically the Divergent series followed by Insurgent and Allegiant. In the book Divergent the characters' choices are strongly impacted by the societies they live in. This society is broken into five factions: Abnegation, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, and Amity, each specializing in a specific character trait such as selflessness, bravery, intelligence, honesty, and compassion. Children are brought up in their own factions, learning the values of their people, until they turn sixteen where they choose which faction they'll belong to for the rest of their life. Throughout the book, Tris tries to figure out who she is. But her identity isn't just about what's inside. It's also about her relationships with family and friends (and society in general). Her main identity is that she's Divergent. That means no matter how much she tries to fit in, none of the factions will truly define who she is. "As of yesterday, I technically became Dauntless, but I don't feel like one. And I am not Abnegation, either. I guess I am what I have always been. Not Dauntless, not Abnegation, not factionless. Divergent." (Roth 205–6) She is forced to make difficult choices throughout the book. In the first and last chapter of the book, the author illustrates that identity is a major theme in this ... If I would have spoken, Socrates might have been given more amnesty and might still be in Athens. Was there a moment in the game where it finally clicked, where you finally felt "in" the game"? Explain. During an outside meeting with the Followers of Socrates the game finally made sense to me. I was outside of class talking in character to other classmates; I was finally making the connections the book said I would need to make. The rest of the game seemed easier after I gained a greater understanding of the purpose of the game. If you could go back in time to the beginning of the game, knowing what you know now about the game experience, what piece of advice would you offer? What do you wish you knew then? I wish I would have known that collaboration with other factions and the indeterminates was a must to succeed in the game. If I had known this at the beginning of the game, I would have been more proactive in contacting the indeterminates to determine which faction they might have been siding with. Collaboration One purpose of the game is to help students to develop better collaborative and leadership skills. Part of this is identifying one 's own strengths and weaknesses in this regard while also realizing

  • 16. Divergent, By Veronica Roth "Divergent", by Veronica Roth is a compelling adventure/dramatic novel. Published in 2011, Divergent is one out of a series of three books. It shines a light on Beatrice Prior's life, and the decisions she makes throughout the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and ended up reading it twice. Divergent would be a great choice for someone who enjoys adventurous stories with many plot twists. The main characters are an important part of the story, as the book revolves around the decisions they make. Beatrice Prior, better known as Tris, is the main character of the story. Called out one by one, they make their way to the five metal bowls (each representing a different faction), then use a ceremonial knife to cut open their hand and let their blood drip into the bowl of the faction they want to continue life in. Each new initiate then stands in an area near the faction they decided on. Immediately shocked by her results from her aptitude test, Tris finds that she is actually Divergent, a faction shunned out from society for being unpredictable and dangerous. Petrified of losing reputation, family, and everything she has worked for, she chooses Dauntless as her faction. In this faction, Tris meets another Divergent concealed as a Dauntless and they work together. Jeanine Matthews, the despicable leader of the Erudite faction, uses a serum that forwards every member of the Dauntless faction into a simulation. This stimulation allows the members to be aware of their surroundings but not able to control themselves or their actions. The stimulation forces the Dauntless army of uncontrolled 'slaves' to enter the Abnegation faction, and they proceed to kill all the members. • 18. Reflection About Divergent The entire lives of the citizens in Divergent are determined by what they are in. The only freedom that they are granted is the ability to choose their faction. There are five factions with a personality type and those are Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (happiness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (brave), and Erudite (knowledge). I do not think the factions represent every basic personality. There are some people like Tris who are just not one personality type. I think I would create one that could be for the people who failed the test or feel like they belong to more than one faction. The reason behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I believe that the factions are working because Tris's society, the factions have held together the structure in her community. In Tris's society, the fact that they do not have a lot of choices is not really making the society better. Something else that does not help, is that the divergents have to hide. A faction I think I would have been born into is candor because of my family valuing honesty. I would have wanted to choose Erudite because of the knowledge and intelligence. At the age of sixteen, I would not feel that comfortable choosing my faction because at that age you are not very experienced. You are young and could make the wrong choice. A choice that I have made that had changed me is to be more positive. Some future choices that I will also make is to not let certain things and opinions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Political Factions For the majority of us, government often seems like nothing more than a distant and unrelatable amalgamation of esoteric arguments and oceans of rules and regulations. Nevertheless, government touches us all– and not just during tax season. For better or worse, governments all over the world form the backbone of society as we know it. For this reason, it becomes relevant for us as citizens and residents to pose certain fundamental questions. The most significant being one that is consequential to all civilized persons, "What is the appropriate role of government in the lives of citizens?" Another overarching question particular to the United States is, "What is the appropriate balance of federal and state power, and what should each respective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The formation of Factions is a totally natural and to be expected. Different people want different things. The two biggest examples of factions are the left and right sides of the political spectrum. On one end, the left, you have the liberal– people open to new and different ideas, believe in the importance of helping each other, and believe that government needs to be involved in social issues in order to provide equality. On the other end, the right, you have the conservative– people who are determined to uphold established ways of thinking, believe in the importance of self reliance, and believe that government should stay out of social issues in order to protect freedom. What happens when these two large factions do not agree? Absolutely nothing, as demonstrated by today's government. Madison was worried about this problem and asserted that it was necessary for a national government consisting of a single party to exist in order to counteract the polarizing and paralyzing effects of factions among the states. As they act as a further separation of power, factions do have their benefits. However, having the federal government become a more party–neutral environment could greatly help to avoid some of the problems we see today; the federal government could keep the states and their factions in check and make sure things actually get ... • 30. Critical Summary Of Insurgent Choice As was true of its precursor, Insurgent mainly revolves around the theme of choices and in the manner they can change you. After all, the book's tagline is "one choice can destroy you." In Insurgent, all of Tris's decisions had main drawback, as she determined whether or not to enter risky situations, to fib to Tobias, and even to surrender herself. With so much on the line, Tris's choices involve not only her, but everybody around her. As the cycle goes on, option left just as important, but the stakes get upper and upper Division The entire group system is based around separating people up and creating diverse groups with limitations between them. Insurgent illustrates how these divisions generate an "us vs. them" attitude that eventually brings it to ruin. In this novel, schism also happen within these groups: Dauntless splits into faithful and conspirator, Abnegation is broken , Erudite imperfection from Jeanine and her following, and Johanna and other Amity tear from their section when they do not have the same point of view with the result to stay straightforward . These divisions are what eventually creates so much annihilation, and as Tris learns time and yet again that it is not possible to complete snooty goals when you are separated down in the center. Trust and Honesty With much of this novel taking place in Candor nerve center, it is to be expected that trust and honesty figure vastly into the theme. • 32. Analysis Of The Article ' Of Rutabagas And Redeemers '... In the years following the civil war, the Democratic Party within Texas was divided in many ways by a variety of issues. Though united against Republicans and their liberal Reconstruction policies, Texas Democrats in this period came from a variety of backgrounds and had unique motivations driving their political sentiments. In the article "Of Rutabagas and Redeemers: Rethinking the Texas Constitution of 1876," Patrick Williams argues against the pervasive characterization of the key factions in the Democratic Party during the constitutional convention consisting of agrarian versus business minded or "new South" interests. Williams contends that although convention contemporaries including noted "Rutabaga" (a semi–derogatory term for a delegate in league with the Grange) John Johnson came to believe that the constitution of 1876 represented the triumph of farmers and their allies against corporate driven "progressive" Democrats and their policies, the political reality was much more complicated. To begin his assessment of the factional politics surrounding the constitution of 1876 and the "Redeemer" convention that fashioned it, Williams points out that several historians who have discussed post–Civil war southern politics including Michael Perman, J. Morgan Kousser, and Seth McKay do indeed ascribe to the paradigm of the rise of the agrarian "rutabaga" over the "new South" cosmopolitan businessman. He attributes this perpetuation of the agrarian myth to contemporary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lao Tzu states that a worldview is, "When people see some things as beautiful, other things become ugly. When people see some things as good, other things become bad." Despite the fact that most people, movies, books, and other components in life do not realize that they have a worldview, in reality, they actually do. One specific example of an element in society that contains a worldview, is the action–filled and world–renowned book entitled Divergent. This specific element contains a striking plotline, worldview, and purpose in order to catch the attention of people around the world. Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is no exception in the book Divergent. The society in Divergent split into five distinct factions known as Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. From this information, one can infer the worldview depicted in this novel is that one choice defines who a person is forever. This worldview is seen all throughout the book, due to the author's focus on choice. The characters are forced to choose which faction they wish to reside in, thus possibly leaving all that they previously had known and grown accustomed to. This reality is brutally true for Beatrice Prior as she is forced to come to grips with making this type of decision. Upon making her ultimate decision to join Dauntless she states, "This is what I chose. This is it." Numerous other decisions are put in front of Beatrice Prior throughout the plot, therefore proving the worldview in Divergent to be rooted in decisions and choices. These choices, in turn, have a long–term effect on someone's life. The worldview in any novel is brought to life by the author. Taking a look at the author of Divergent, known as Veronica Roth, one immediately comes to the conclusion that she is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. She freely professes her faith and love for the Lord; therefore, one can see the intricate parallels from Divergent to the Scriptures. For example, the concept of one choice defining the rest of a person's life or destiny is similar to the monumental choice made in the Garden of Eden, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold diversities. The Populists party comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south; they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The Populists also call for government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which includes a flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals through legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the Populist Party; they weren't contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The Populist party held picnics in order to present discussions, while the Progressives hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were much more formal. The Populist Party was the people's party, hence the name Populist, the party was created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the head of The Knights of Labor. The party's first platform was called the Omaha Platform which called for the abolition of the national bank, graduated income tax, direct election of senators, civil service reform, an eight hour work week, and the gov't control of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. • 40. Divergent Reflection Divergent is a great coming of age novel because the protagonist undergoes a transformative change of character. In Divergent the main character Beatrice, whose name means voyageur, goes on a journey that changes not only her name, but her social standing, physical and psychological well being as well. The story begins with Beatrice being a member of the Abnegation faction. The Abnegation faction values selflessness above all other virtues, and Beatrice has been raised to put others before herself. Although her faction is a tight–knit community brought together by their humanitarian ways, she is very introverted and withdrawn. When she "looks at the Abnegation lifestyle as an outsider, [she] thinks it's beautiful. It's only when [she tries] to live it [herself] that [she has] trouble. It never feels genuine" (Roth 36). She doesn't feel she belongs there and feels guilty for having selfish tendencies. When Tris chooses to switch from Abnegation to Dauntless, she begins to become more social. She becomes friends with Christina, another initiate, and states that she has not "really had a friend before, period. It's impossible to have real friendship when no one feels like they can accept help or even talk about themselves. That won't happen here. I already know more about Christina than I ever knew about Susan, and it's only been two days" ( ). • 45. The Danger Of Factions By James Madison The Danger of Factions James Madison warned, among several cautions, about factions, specifically a tyranny of the majority, when writing under the alias as PUBLIUS in The Federalist Papers. According to Madison in Federalist 10, a faction is a group of citizens, either a majority or minority, who group together by a common purpose or goal (2013, pg. 628). He argued that when governments are ruled by factions, "...the public good is disregarded...", and rulings of the government are made by an "overbearing majority," instead of by the "...rules of justice and the rights of the minor party..." (Madison 2013, pg. 628). However, in the two hundred plus years of different opinions on how government should run and political polarization, factions, in some fashion, have become a reality within the U.S. political system through the means of political parties. The two major U.S. political parties are the Democrats and the Republicans, and they are in a constant battle over who will control Congress and influence the policy–making process. According to Madison, men are naturally driven to form factions due to differing opinions about spiritual beliefs, government, as well as other reasons (Madison 2013, pg. 628). He stated that factions have become "..inflamed... with mutual animosity, and... much more disposed to vex and oppress each other than to co–operate for their common good" (Madison 2013, pg. 628). George Washington 's Farewell Address In George Washington 's Farewell Address, Washington warns against the dangers of political factions by stating, "it occurs as matter of serious concern that any ground should have been furnished for characterizing parties by geographical discriminations, Northern and Southern, Atlantic and Western; whence designing men may endeavor to excite a belief that there is a real difference of local interests and views" (Washington). However, despite American leaders such as George Washington and James Madison warning of factionalism, the country would be divided by political parties arising out of the Northern and Southern states of the union. By the time Walt Whitman wrote "Songs of Myself" in 1855, tensions in the United States created by factionalism were at a high and were constantly elevating. In writing "Songs of Myself", Whitman sought to help mend some of the wounds created by factionalism by seeking to bring together Americans whom factionalism had rendered alien to one another and by teaching to believe in oneself rather than the beliefs of political parties. When Washington wrote his Farewell Address, he had already made the decision to retire from his job as president and return to his home on Mount Vernon. No longer was he concerned with making a future for the country. Instead he was concerned with offering the parting advice of an "old and affectionate friend". • 49. The Political Factions, By Thomas Paine And James Chalmers ¬Though not entirely representative of their political factions, Thomas Paine and James Chalmers are major literary figures in describing loyalist and anti–loyalist sentiments in pre–revolutionary America. While Thomas Paine argued for America's independence, James Chalmers counters the idea by proposing some of the possible negative consequences as well as down–playing the perceived necessity of declaring independence. The major points of contention in both of their arguments deal heavily with the outcome of the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War) including the government actions that were imposed upon the American colonies as a result. By examining the way in which they interpreted these events, one can gain insight into their contrasting political and philosophical ideologies of pre–revolutionary America. Thomas Paine was a British–born citizen of Pennsylvania whose formal education ended at only thirteen years old, but he chose to educate himself in his free–time. He met Benjamin Franklin who then persuaded him to move to the colonies. He introduced his views of an independent Continent very shortly before the American Revolution, which heavily influenced many middle–of–the–road colonists. Common Sense is arguably his most influential work, and it was decidedly written in such a manner that the common folk could comprehend. In his famous pamphlet, he writes about government as a necessary evil, state of nature, the problems of monarchial systems of government, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Comparing Divergent And The Maze Runner My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters were not used to. Thomas(The Maze Runner protagonist)started off the book with him waking up inside of a cargo box, traveling upwards at an incredibly high speed, and with only the memory of his name. When Tris decided to join the Dauntless, she immediately had to adapt and change, from jumping from trains and buildings to fighting someone until submission or decommission. To add onto that, despite being both unfamiliar with their new lives, they were able to adapt fairly quickly with Tris being first in the second and third round of initiation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one who led them out of the maze and one of the most important Gladers. On the other hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless. Eventually though she became one of the bravest people in the story, fending off multiple Dauntless soldiers and stopping the Erudite. There were also, quite obviously, going through very different situations. While, Tris had to fight her way to the top ten, hide her Divergence, and save an entire faction, Thomas was trying to figure out what his flashbacks meant, how he could get out of the maze, and why he had so much responsibility. Based on all of this information, I believe that dystopian fiction really seems to focus on themes of sacrifice, friendship, and most important of all, overthrowing "the system". For example, another dystopian fiction novel that has all three of these themes is The Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, Katniss, the protagonist, risks her life for her sister's wellbeing, makes alliances with other tributes and rebels, and attempts to overthrow the Capitol. The main plot point of Divergent was to stop the Erudite, the most power–hungry of all five factions. Finally, Thomas stops WICKED, a group of scientists that experimented on the Gladers. • 53. Compare And Contrast Hunger Games And Divergent The Hunger Games and Divergent demonstrate an exaggerated view of the extremes, society has come to, to minimise the drastic effects and repercussions that the present has caused this future dystopian society. Both the societies of THG and Divergent similarly tried to minimize the problems in their world. This is the illusion of goodness, to the fact that they have 'solved' all problems, they have used the segregation of their people using physical boundaries, keeping their people divided or the unknown away.As the mayor is recalling the events of the past, he says that "The result was Panem, a shining Capitol ringed by thirteen districts, which brought peace and prosperity to its citizens." This uses a metaphor to emphasize and exaggerate that the "shining" Capitol is surrounded and followed by the other separate 13 districts. With the illusion that Panem the Capitol is the greatest and has saved them (the other districts) and shows how the land of Panem has segregated their people, of high and low classes. While Beatrice is getting ready for her aptitude test she says that it will help her choose "... which of the five factions I belong in. ... Divergent Anti Hero Essay Amanda Schnur ENG3U1 Ms. Kidd y–03–18 A Female Anti–Hero In the movie "Divergent" directed by Neil Burger, the central character Beatrice, shows many different characteristics of being an anti–hero. Beatrice Prior otherwise known as Tris is the main protagonist character and the narrator of the film. She is a strong willed 16 year old who lives in a society divided into groups called factions, based on individual human virtues. With her coming of age, she must now choose one of the factions to live in for the rest of her life, Abnegation (selfless), Erudite (intelligent), Candor (honest), Amity (peaceful) or Dauntless (brave). Tris does this because if the leader found out about her being Divergent, they would kill her so she does not "bend" the rules. Tris is disappointed in herself at the beginning of the film because she believes that she is not worthy of finding a faction and does not know where she belongs in society. "Everyone knows where they belong, except for me" (Burger 2014) This is significant to the story because it lets the viewers have an insight into Tris not being "normal" and gives us a heads up that she is different from the rest. The movie lacks foreshadowing, as we are not evident at first of Tris challenging all of societies beliefs. As the movie unfolds, you can start to put two and two together, connecting the dots to see that Tris is Divergent, she will not ever fit into any group. She does not follow the rules, she does not believe what others tell her and she does what she thinks is right and not what is expected of her. Signs of anti–heroism are also shown in Tris when she is misunderstood by society. • 59. Summary: Minecraft Staff Experience I have tons of staff experience. I've been playing Minecraft for about 5 years, so I know quiet a bit about the game itself. Along the way of me playing Minecraft itself and learning it, I started to get interest in becoming staff on servers. (+) After about a year of playing Minecraft I got my first actual Staff position on ComplexPvP. ComplexPvP was a Teams/SoupPvP server. Got a a bit of players, about 20–50 a day. I was staff there for about a month. I started as Helper, then got to Admin and the server ended up shutting down. (+) Shortly after, I got staff on FriedChickenTeams which was also a SoupPvP/KitPvP server. I was instantly promoted to Admin on there because I was friends with the Co–Owner after I applied. (+) After FriedChickenTeams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was then thrown off the staff team because I was replaced with a YouTuber because the Owner thought the server would get more publicity if there was a famous YouTuber that was Co–Owner. I thought that was a very douche move of the Owner and never came back on the server for the disrespect and the time I put into the server. (+) After MCRefill I went from Mod to Owner in 2 days on a server called ElementalMC, it was a very well made Factions server, got about 20 people on a day, (somedays over 50). I was very active and helpful on there, the community really liked me and my decisions unfortunately, the main owner ended up getting another Owner and him and I didn't get along so I ended up resigning due to all the drama and damage they've caused to the server. The community was very upset about the Owners making me resign. I ended up being banned shortly after for no reason, and I never returned or cared for the server since. (+) Recently, I created my own KitPvP/SoupPvP server that is somewhat known of. I usually got like 10 players (give or take) on it per day, but it unfortunately shutdown due to lack of payments. There are a couple other servers that I've been staff on, but I can't seem to remember them at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Allegiant by Veronica Roth Currently, I have been reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth. It is about a faction–based society that Tris Prior once believed in, but now due to violence, loss, and betrayal, it is shattered. So when she and other Dauntless members, one of the factions, offered a chance to explored past the limits she's known. She thinks that beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a new life together, free from lies, untrue loyalties, and painful memories. However, when the group finally gets there, it is nothing as she expected it to be. Old explanations are fake. New truths change the minds and hearts of those she loves. Once again, Tris has to battle to discover the complexities of human nature and face impossible choices using courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love. As Allegiant begins, the new head of Chicago, Tobias' mother, considers the release of the video, a video from the past about the factions, to be an act of rebellion for some unknown reason. Now, the Factionless have control of the city, and they have dissolved the factions, which makes most people angry. A new faction brews: the Allegiant; they believe in the authority of the released video and wish to keep the breaking factions. Tris, Four and their Divergent friends find their way into the Allegiant faction to form an escape plan. The group loses one beloved character along the way, but they make it out of the city with ease. Before they get too far, they are met with other Divergent who are waiting for them. ... When they turn sixteen they have to take an aptitude test which decides which faction they belong in. then, the next day at the choosing ceremony then pick either to stay with their family in the faction they were born into or pick another one to permanently live in. Tris Prior is a dynamic character because of her looks, actions, and speech. Tris goes through many changes when she becomes Dauntless and leaves her family in Abnegation, one of these being her appearance. When Tris belongs to the faction Abnegation she is dressed in all gray from head to toe. Their clothing is very simple and boring. Tris has to wear her hair in a bun and is only allowed to wear a watch. "Hides one's beauty, gray clothes (gray robes, gray shirts, gray slacks), plain hairstyle"(6). The people of Abnegation try to hide ones beauty and can do so by wearing all gray. Once Tris chooses to become apart of the Dauntless faction she dresses in all black. The Dauntless members dress in all black, have piercings, tattoos, and have unnatural hair colors. The Dauntless need to look fearless and brave. "She gives me a look. "No. I will not cut my hair," I say, "or dye it a strange color. Or pierce my face." "How about your bellybutton?" she says. The new Dauntless members have to leave behind the looks of their old factions and look like the Dauntless. The new Dauntless members not only need to look like the rest of the Dauntless ... • 69. Analysis Of ' The Last Faction ' Part Two Divergent is all about change and how it affects you and those around you and how decisions can change your life forever. Because of war people have divided into factions so it is more peaceful and the factions are;Candor, in this faction you always tell the truth and always have to be right. Another is Amity in this faction you are very peaceful and you farm everything, in Dauntless you are like the police you have to protect others and you have to be very daring. Abnegation these people are selfless they don 't look in the mirror and always think about others before themselves they also control the government. The last faction is Erudite they are the smart ones who know everything. In the beginning of the book the main character named Beatrice belongs to Abnegation and she has to take a test so it will tell her what faction she does belong too and she will have to choose, the test told her that she was divergent. Being divergent is when you have a little bit of every faction in you and it is very rare so she can 't tell anyone, so she had to choose a faction and she chose dauntless which is the complete opposite of her old faction. • 71. Unity In Divergent Tris was forced to live in a dystopian society without knowing it. She grew up in Abnegation, (one of the five factions). Tris thought that all there was in life was being selfless, but there is more. Tris was tested to see what faction suits her. She had no idea what she would be. Little did she know that she was Divergent. Tris was a mix of three contrasting factions. Being Divergent is more divers than everyone else it can be dangerous but can it also be helpful? When some people read Divergent they think that it is about bravery or being selfless. I think it's about something different. In Divergent Veronica Roth displays that the book is not just about bravery. It's about being different and how being different can help you fit in. Early in the story Tris was supposed to be selfless because her current faction was based on selflessness. She never really felt that she was selfless. For example Tris was miserable unlike the average Abnegation on page 2 Tris explains that, "other factions celebrate birthdays, we don't that would be self indulgent". Tris ... People who do this are distinct they do multiple things and that is what makes them happy. Tris dose multiple thing she is interested in being more than just being brave. She wonders and that is what makes her happy. If you are one of those people who feel that you are only part of one group you might benefit from reading this because being split causes chaos and being together sharing our differences in peace is the way I prefer to ... • 73. Divergent Movie Analysis Introduction: Divergent is an action film directed by Neil Burger. This film takes place in Chicago, which is placed in a futuristic world where society divides people into five factions based on their personalities. As each person grows up and becomes an adult they have to choose a faction which they will stay in for the rest of their lives. Beatrice Prior is the main character in Divergent and she changes a lot throughout the film, starting off as not knowing who she is and why she isn't like everybody else. To finding out and learning who she is and becoming more confident in herself. The director uses a variety of different film techniques including close–ups, and wide shots to show how Tris is feeling, and how she is changing throughout Divergent. Paragraph 1: At the beginning of the film, Tris is very quiet and naive. She was born into the faction Abnegation, "they live a simple life, selfless, dedicated to helping others," this tells us that Tris's life isn't exciting and she was born to put others before herself. When Tris is in her room, getting ready for the choosing ceremony where she will get the chance to choose a new faction, the director uses an over the shoulder shot to show her reflection in the mirror. Tris's face looks very nervous and scared as to what faction she will choose and what it will be like. This helps the audience understand that she is quite anxious for a new change and wonders if she is still a part of Abnegation, or will fit into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intractable Conflicts go by many names, such as the Protracted Social Conflicts or the Identity Related Conflicts. These are long conflicts that are self–sustaining, deep–rooted and the product of long–lasting hatreds and wars; since WWII, which has made international politics unpredictable and unstable.[footnoteRef:1] Most of these prolonged conflicts (not all) have had international interventions or have involved superpowers that have made efforts to end the conflict through diplomatic, mediatory, peacekeeping, humanitarian development assistance and in extreme cases, military intervention means. However, some of these conflicts have resisted any kind of settlement and/or resolution, which can complicate the situation further.[footnoteRef:2] [1: Chester A. Articles Of Confederation Rhetorical Analysis One of the most important documents written in American history, the Articles of Confederation, was crucial to the foundation of American principles. However, there were many inherent flaws in its making, which were addressed by a few different leaders. The Articles of Confederation paved the way towards a successful country, but some of the problems would have sent the country backwards. One of these problems was that for an amendment to be made to the Articles, every state would have to agree, and Rhode Island never sent delegates to conventions to discuss these amendments. This meant that there could never be flexibility in the amendments even when necessary. This dilemma forced many elites of America to come together and completely rewrite ... Idealistically, Madison's ideas about government are possibly the best possible solution to the conflict of factions, yet in reality, Federalist No. 10 has been manipulated in ways that separate people more than unite them. While Madison is probably right in that republicanism is better than simply a popular democracy, his writing essentially did nothing but flip the party in power. Before, the power was held by the majority common people, which was bad because only their interests were being addressed, but after Madison wrote Federalist No. 10, the elite group was the group from which delegates were being elected. Madison was one of the property owners, and he feared that the common sort would prevent him from remaining in power so he had to switch the way the system worked. Through his rhetorical analysis he convinced the people that electing delegates was the way to go, and in the end only the members of the elite group were elected. He wanted a government that protected the rights of the rich property owners from the common sort and he was successful in doing so. He says "a rage for paper money" will hinder the abilities of those elected and therefore should not be. This prevented anyone who was poor from being elected. Now, Madison also makes the assumption that the people elected will somehow throw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
