How to review a journal paper and prepare oral presentationSeppo Karrila
The slides are for an about 2-hour lecture to students who each have to review one scientific journal article.
There are guidelines on key content, as well as planning, preparing, and delivering an oral presentation.
This should be useful to any student preparing for an oral presentation with slides.
I talk about the X-Files in this paranormal alphabet edition and also talk about government conspiracy in-real-life and talk about the Kecksburg UFO incident.
1. Choose one scene in the novel and explain how and why you would’v.docxberthacarradice
1. Choose one scene in the novel and explain how and why you would’ve handled the situation differently than Marlowe. Please be sure to include a chapter number and page number.
2. Explain Carmen’s pathology. In other words, using details from the book plus your own inventiveness, you need to build her backstory. When we meet her in the novel she is a young woman, in her late teens or early twenties. Start her backstory when she is a child.
3. Describe Vivian’s life at age 40 in detail. Please compose this in Vivian’s voice, meaning, make this sound like an extended diary entry. And remember: in the story she was maybe twenty-five years old. For this question, she's 40. Let's hear what has been going on in her life in the decade or so after the story ends.
4. Describe Agnes’ new life elsewhere in detail. Please compose this in Agnes’ voice. Remember, Agnes has had a rough week: her boss was murdered, she lost her job, two of her lovers were murdered, she was arrested and released, a major Los Angeles gangster is looking for her, and then she leaves town with 200 bucks in a dead man's car. What I want you to do is tell me where she went, how she's trying to rebuild her life and how she feels about all of this.
5. What is the most likely cause of Owen Taylor’s death? This one is tricky because the book never conclusively answers this--now it's your job. Write it like a forensic report and pick just ONE cause. Convince me.
6. Which character in the story do you most relate to--and why? The only rule here is that no one can pick my character, Larry Cobb.
7. Explain Marlowe’s “crush” on Mona Mars. In other words, according to how Marlowe evaluates people, what does Mona have that all the other women in the novel don't?
8. What part of the mayhem in this story is Marlowe the most morally and legally responsible for?
9. Cast the film version of The Big Sleep. Be sure to include all major characters--and to justify your selection of each actor. The format for this is: Character's name.....actor's name.....why they would be perfect for the roll.
10. Consider each victim of murder in this novel, individually and in proper chronological sequence. Evaluate each one on the basis of moral justification. In other words, make an argument for or against the justification of each of these killings. I count 5 outright killings in the story. DO NOT INCLUDE OWEN TAYLOR--YOU DEAL WITH HIS DEATH SEPARATELY IN QUESTION 5.

The Terrace Gazette
Maxson goes down swinging
By Joe Student
This is where your first story will
go. It will be a summary of the events
of the act that you have just finished.
In it, be sure to include at least two
quotes which help to make the plot
clear to the reader.
You should also make sure to dis-
cuss what is going on with each of the
major characters. Be sure to address
Troy, Rose, and Cory at the very least.
Let us know what each is doing, what
each is saying, and what is motivating
each to be acting they way that he or
she is. Any less will not recieve credit.
Here’s an example:
During Act II of August Wilson’s
play Fences, Rose expresses her dis-
gust for Troy’s cheating, telling him
that he “ought to have stayed upstairs,”
(68) where he belonged. It is clear from
this passage that Rose is saddened by
Troy’s revelation of infidelity. When
she speaks to him, she speaks to him
like a child. He is chastized the same
way one would speak to a toddler who
has done wrong. It is clear she has pity
for him, though it is not clear that she
will stay with him.
This is where you’ll put a caption for the illustration that you choose for the reading. The caption should tell us what is happening in the image, and why that scene is important in the play.
The
Requirements
1 story that summarizes
the chapter and provides a
discussion of the thoughts,
actions, and motivations of at
least Troy, Rose, and Cory
2 pictures. 1 should illustrate a
major scene in the reading, the
other should illustrate a particu-
lar character. Each needs a cap-
tion.
1 story that provides a
detailed analysis of a char-
acter through the lens of a
particular theme in the text.
1 story that provides opin-
ion. It can criticize a charac-
ter, praise another, whatever.
It needs evidence.
Your character analysis needs a picture and a caption that
explains it as well. This is Willie Mays playing Stickball.
Bono believes racist boss
By Bill Student
This is where you’ll discuss one of the major charac-
ters in the text. Make sure that you provide an analysis of
the character, especially focusing on what the character’s
thoughts, words, and actions say about what is imporant
to the character.
You’ll also be asked to examine that character through
the lens of a particular theme in the play. For example, you
could discuss Troy as embodying a man who cannot move
beyond the past. As you do this, be sure that you bring in
specific examples from the text to support your claims.
A really well done analysis of a characer will also pay
attention to why the character is acting the way that the
characeter is the way he or she is acting. This will help to
provide some insight into his or her life.
Here’s a quick example:
In the play Fences the character Bono is especially inter-
esting. In some ways, he represents a black man who has
accepted the place dictated to him by the society that sur-
rounds him. At one point, wh ...

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Summary of the 5 newspaper Articles i have found for the walking dead
1. Summary of the 5 Newspaper
Articles I Have Found
Elliot Maunder
2. In this presentation I am going to be analysing 5
different newspaper articles for the American TV
Drama ( The Walking Dead) and I am going to be
explaining what information the cuttings are
giving and what articles provides the most
information about the TV drama
3. Newspaper Article 1
In the first article that I found the
information that is in there is
talking about the walking dead
being a much darker program than
the comic book actually and it is
talking about the characters being
similar to the ones in the comic
book. The article also talks about
what the show is like and says
things such as “ If you haven't seen
this show yet, stop what your doing
immediately get ready to be
hooked. The article also has a brief
description of what happens at the
start of the walking dead and a
brief intro to the story but what it
also has is a brief description of the
next episode that’s on so the
newspaper article does provide
some information but not enough
information about the TV drama
4. Newspaper Article 2
In the second Article its an actor who plays the
character (Merle Dixon) and he talks about what its
been like for him on the walking dead and he also
discusses the future of the walking dead in season
3 so this article may not provide much information
about the history of the walking dead but it does
provide future information about it for example he
is asked the question “do you think the relationship
between Daryl and Carole will continue to blossom
across season 3 “ and another question that was
asked was “ Daryl's become ricks go to guy in the
absence of Shane. Will merle drive a wedge
between that? “ and questions like that will revel
the future history of the walking dead so this
article does provide some future information about
the television series.
5. Newspaper Article 3
In the third article that I found about the
walking dead on mtv , it is talking about
what could happen in the future of the
show after the mid season finale so it is
providing information which could happen
in the future of the history of the walking
dead . It doesn’t discuss any of the past
history of the walking dead but it does go
on about what can happen in the future
with certain popular characters so it does
provide a good source of information for
example it mentions “ the shows ranks are
boosted by the arrival of Tyreeses party “
so this is providing information that the
show is getting more popular when they
introduce more characters from the comic
book series.
6. Newspaper Article 4
In the forth article that I have
found its someone's review on
the walking dead series and
they describe how they enjoyed
the series and all about the new
characters which makes season
3 and the article has a brief
description about the new
characters and how they will
attract viewers who read the
comic book to the series.
This article does provide some
information about the history of
the show but its just a brief
description about it but it is
mainly just a review about the
past seasons and what's
installed for the third season.
7. Newspaper Article 5
The fifth article on the walking dead is talking
about what happened on the first and second
episode of the walking dead and it is explaining in
detail what happened in theses episodes for
example it says “ last week we left our gang of
plucky zombie killers in a bad place, Sophia is
missing and Carl was shot.
The article does explain quite a good source of
information it gives quite a good description of The
Walking Dead and talks about what's happening
with each characters in the episode and what's
happening with them for example “ back at the
rv, Tdog is having a hard time , his arm is infected”.
Over all this article does provide a lot of
information about the first two episode's of season
2 in the walking dead it gives full descriptions
what's going on with each character and the state
they are in at the moment so this article is very
informative about the history of The Walking Dead.
