Summary

                            
 In order for students to be successful in an online learning
  environment, pre-assessment (both self and formal) of
  their readiness is needed.
 A student’s level of technological expertise (word
  processing abilities, use of communication tools, basic
  software knowledge) should be evaluated.
 Students need to evaluate their reasons for taking online
  courses, as well as their level of learning independence
  (self-motivation, time management skills, etc.).
 The course provider should offer a level of support (both
  academic and technical) to every student.

Summary   In order for students to be successful in an online learning environment, pre-assessment (both self and formal) of their readiness is needed.  A student’s level of technological expertise (word processing abilities, use of communication tools, basic software knowledge) should be evaluated.  Students need to evaluate their reasons for taking online courses, as well as their level of learning independence (self-motivation, time management skills, etc.).  The course provider should offer a level of support (both academic and technical) to every student.
