Analysis Of Fred Schepis s A Cry
STAGE 1: ANALYSIS
Fred Schepis s A Cry in the Dark 1988 is a movie based on the courtroom drama with taglines around
A family torn apart, a crowd full of rage and a woman accused of murder. It is a movie that runs for
120 minutes (feature length film). The movie DVD comes with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that
helps in the conservation of the original acting aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The soundtracks are in English
and French and are in the form of Dolby Digital Surround technology. It also has accessible Subtitles

quality of the picture and sound, accompanied by the splendid performance by Streep at the heart of
the film, makes this movie worth looking at, especially considering the inexpensive list price. This
paper focuses on the analysis of this movie, attempting to bring to the light a brief synopsis of the
movie, the main theme and how it relates to the people in the society and also how the lives of the
characters influence individuals today.
This title of the movie was selected carefully by the film writers John Bryson (novel) and Robert
Caswell (screenplay). All through the movie we see a silently suffering family whose misery is a
source of the story for others. The movie is directed by Fred Schepisi is known for his role in the

Malala Core Values
Our lives are like a quilt that is made up of blocks of memories, stitched together with love,
dedication, and determination. The memories are what make up the bulk of our lives; they influence
us, and help us shape our values. For someone at such a young age twenty years old to be exact
Malala s quilt is her equivalent to Joseph s biblical coat of colors: it is bursting at the seams with
pigmented hues that make up her experiences. However, not all experiences are pleasant; some of
them are troublesome, distasteful, and overall, they stick with us. Regardless of the type of memory,
they are guaranteed to affect a person s values. But despite everything that has happened to Malala,
she has kept her core values, such as education and family. She has faced many hardships in her life
that would have caused the average person to give up; however she stayed strong and continued to be
who she is.
One of the very first things that a reader picks up from Malala s memoir is how close she is with her
family, specifically her father. From the moment she was born, an unbreakable bond was formed
between the two of them. Malala mentioned that he looked into my eyes after I was born and fell in
love, (Yousafzai 2013, p.14). It s moments such as those that make it clear how the two of them will
forever be inseparable. Even in her younger years, Malala describes how she easily became entrapped
by her father s story telling. One moment Malala recounts from her younger years is

NETWORK FILE SYSTEM! !
Network File System was designed so that users could transparently and remotely access files on the

operating systems and architectures. Description of protocols in machines and systems is done in an
independent manner in NFS using the External Data Representation. Implementation of NFS takes
place on top of RPC so that implementation and maintenance of protocols is done in a simplified way.

SCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface)! ! iSCSI is a transport layer protocol. How SCSI
packets are transported over a TCP/IP network is decided by this protocol. This protocol can be used
to send data over various area networks like
LANs, WANs and on the internet, and provide data storage independent of the location. ! ! iSCSI
transmits block level data between a iSCSI server and a iSCSI client located in a storage device. The
iSCSI protocol provides encapsulation to SCSI commands and rearranged packet to the TCP/IP layer.
These encapsulated packets are then sent over the internet on a P2P connection.
When these packets arrive at the destination, the protocol strips down the extra headers in such a way
that the SCSI commands are seen by the operating system as a local SCSI device that can be formatted
as usual. ! ! iSCSI is popular in small and medium businesses because of the way server

Sea Turtle Water Pollution Essay
Water pollution wreaks havoc on marine organisms around the world. It is a leading cause of species
endangerment. One animal that has overwhelmingly felt the effects of water pollution is the sea turtle.
I am especially interested in the effects of water pollution on sea turtles as I have worked at a
leatherback sea turtle conservatory called San San Pond Sak in Bocas Del Toro, Panama for two
summers. I learned extensively about the hardships that these turtles fae, dealing with a horde of
problems from egg poaching to injuries due to water pollution. Sea turtles don t have it easy from the
start. It is estimated that somewhere between a mere 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 survive to adulthood
(accurate estimates are challenging to obtain). These turtles face tribulations beginning in the nest,
such as humans disturbing eggs and predators attacking baby turtles on their march to the ocean.
Humans often don t realize the detrimental effects they can have on turtles. For example, artificial
lighting along beaches can cause a mother sea turtle to lay eggs in a less than optimal spot, or cause a
hatchling to crawl away from the ocean (they use the moonlight to guide themselves towards the
water). Various species of sea turtles are distributed throughout warm/temperate waters around the
globe. Most inhabit coastal waters, lagoons, estuaries, and bays; although some venture deeper into
open waters. Sea turtles are also migratory animals. Some species feed and nest in the same area,
whereas Leatherbacks have been observed to migrate up to 3,000 miles to nest. Once a sea turtle
reaches maturity, (10 50 years after hatching, depending on species) a mother will return to the same
shore she was born at a few times per nesting season, every 2 4 years.
Hatchlings tend to eat mollusks and small crustaceans, hydrozoans, seaweed, fish eggs, and jellies. An
adult sea turtles diet varies depending on species. Some species such as Green sea turtles are
herbivorous, eating mainly algae and seaweeds. Others such as the leatherback are referred to as
gelatinivores, meaning they eat mainly jellies, tunicates, and sea squirts. Various other species are
carnivores, spongivores, or omnivores. As a whole, sea turtles control the

Ethnographic Analysis Of Apple Airpod
The production of a box is very difficult and complicated. It all depends on what you are shipping and
where you are shipping it to. If you are shipping a big heavy item you will need a big sturdy box if
you are shipping a product far distance you may need something like a crate. It all depends on the size.
Box dimensions are displayed as: Length x Width x Depth that determines how big or small the box
may be.
For example let s say Amazon® ships a smartphone to me I ll have to measure the smartphones length
width and depth and multiply them all together to get the total area of the phone. I ll use the
measurements of the new Iphone X the height is 5.65 inches the width is 2.79 inches and the depth is
0.30 inches. These are the total measurements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s just the phone you have to leave space for the wall charger and AirPods. The measurements of
the Apple Airpods are 1.74 by 0.84 by 2.11 inches. The area of the Apple Airpods are 3 inches
squared. The measurements for the wall charger are 1.62 x 1.3 x 0.81 and the area is 2 inches squared.
Now that we have found the area of all the items in the box we have to add all of the areas of the other
items like wall charger and AirPods plus the phone itself. When these are all added this will determine
what the total area is. When all the areas are added up you ll get 10 inches squared as the area of the
box. No that the area is found we can determine how expensive or inexpensive the boxes might me.
The fact that Apple ships hundred of thousands of Iphone X s a day are crucial because the boxes cost
money too that means that they spend millions of dollars on boxing a year which means they have to
make an affordable safe box that won t break the phone in shipping or have the box get damaged too
quickly. If they make the boxes to expensive it can lead to Apple losing more money than they earn.
One way Apple makes the Iphone ten box an inexpensive box by keeping all of the items tight in. That
means there will be no use for extra foam or other excessive items to keep the phone from breaking or
cracking (discluding thin plastic around

Joseph Haydn Accomplishments
Among the creators of fundamental genres of classical music was Joseph Haydn. His influence upon
later composers was tremendous. Joseph Haydn s most acclaimed pupil was Ludwig van Beethoven,
and his musical form casted a huge shadow over the music of many composers such as, Mendelssohn,
and Schubert. Joseph Haydn is the composer whom more than others epitomizes and aimed for
achievements of the Classical era. Joseph Haydn was born on March 31, 1732 in Rohrau Austria. He
was one of three boys born to Mathias Haydn and Anna Maria Koller. Both of Haydn s parents

Hayden then gained his popularity outside of palace walls and eventually he started to write music for
publication as for the family. Haydn wrote several important works during this time period. Several of
his important works were commissions from abroad, like the Paris symphonies and the original
orchestra version of The Seven Last Words of Christ. During this time Haydn began to feel
sequestered, and lonely. He started to miss his friends and family back in Vienna. This is where Haydn
began to be known to all of Europe. And was widely considered the greatest living composer. He
married Maria Anna Keller in 1760. His marriage was proved to be an unhappy one, both of them took
on lovers. And they had no children together. He had a long term affair with Luigia Polzelli, she was a
young Italian mezzo soprano singer who also worked in the prince s service. Haydn remind in their

operas that were performed. Haydn s Sympathy no. 96 is nicknamed the Miracle because during the
performance a chandelier fell to the ground but no one was injured or killed. Haydn s first opera was
called The Limping Devil. Haydn was also known as the father of the string quartet because he was
the first to compose four part music for a viola, cello and 2 violins. Audience would flock to Hayden s
concerts. Joseph Haydn was a prolific composer with 104 symphonies, 32 Piano Trios, 90 String
Quartets, and 62 Piano Sonatas. One of Haydn s most famous String Quartets was the Emperor
Quartet . In 1790, the head of the Esterhazy family, Prince Nikolaus passed away. The new prince
Prince Anton had no interest in music and ended up dismissing most of the court musicians. However
Haydn retained though he was no longer assigned an important duty. Which then allowed Haydn time

Newspaper Style
Introduction
A newspaper headline is often the only thing that readers read in a newspaper, or at least, it is the first
thing that everyone notices in a newspaper. It serves as a indicator for the reader that helps decide
whether to continue on reading the whole text or to skip it onto another one. Each headline should be a
summary of the news which follows. A headline should be a regular sentence structure containing a
subject and a verb. It means that only lexical, not grammatical words are used. The major reason for
that is the space. Then the rule of a sentence may be broken, only minor sentences are used, and such a
headline can be rather difficult to understand. This happens on purpose to make the headline somehow

Articles and the verb to be in various functions are often left out. * LAS VEGAS A POTENTIAL
MODEL FOR CRIMEA * MISSING TEENAGER FOUND UNHARMED * EVERY WORKER A
UNION MEMBER 2. Newspapers have a special tense system. It is unusual to find complex forms

something that is happening, or something that happens repeatedly. * AFGHANS BEGIN MEETING

Sometimes the Present Continuous is used (usually to denote something that is changing or
developing), but the auxiliary verb is usually left out. * MAYOR ELECTION SPENDING SOARS *
SOUTH AFRICA RUNNING DRY * OUTBREAK OF FOOG POISONING HITS KYIV
To refer to the future, headlines often use the infinitive. * DENMARK TO VOTE * GIULIANI TO

Analysis Of The Poem Eve
Eve! Evaline! Where are you? Your mother is calling to you, and you are giggling as your chubby
little hand is held over your mouth. You glance over to your left and then your right, behind the large
willow tree. You are only five, but you know your mother has a smile on her lips. You have never
traveled far from her, but when you do, its to play this game with her. Hide and seek. You are always
hiding, hoping to be found and swept up into your mother s arms. It is when you are looking over your
left side, that the arms do sweep up and hold you close to her heart. You squeal in delight, arms
moving around your mother s neck and you buried your face into her neck, smelling her honeysuckle
and lilac perfume.
Her golden hair is like the sun, and her eyes are gray glittering stars. You do not look anything like
your mother, but you have overhear her talking about that no good rotting father that just left you and
your mother and how much you remind her of him. Perhaps that is why you will always be weary
around the men in your life. The good, the bad, and the ugly ones, are always approached with a level
of hesitation even if you know them for a long time. But it is how you will always be with new people
hesitant but then friendly. Or at least you will try to be. Your mother instills in your from a young age
that you need to be kind to others, and you do your best to do so. It didn t always come out as such,
but as you got older, that becomes easier. or at least it is to

Satan in Paradise Lost
Seeing Satan in a different light in Paradise Lost Satan is a character that has been ridiculed and teased
in our modern world because of his symbolization of evil, combined with the underlying hypothesis
that good will always triumph over evil ultimately questioning and mocking his presence. In Paradise
Lost John Milton frays from the typical view of Satan as the devil on your shoulder by having the
readers absorbed in the idea that they actually feel sympathetic towards this evil creature. Within lines

view of sympathy towards him. These lines establish a struggle within Satan and illustrate his

Here the reader sees Satan describing how God doesn t have to do anything, he accomplished
something once and is now valued while Satan has to constantly try and justify himself. God is held
up by old repute , that he will sit on his thrown and won t be touched because he is God and there is no
hope for Satan to overcome this reputation. When Satan goes on to tell the reader that God just being
God tempted our attempt, and wrought our fall (1.642) he is providing the image of going into battle.
Ultimately it wasn t his fault he had to perform such a task but it was God s old repute that made him
go forth with the battle. That maybe then Satan would get his own solid image instead of being
compared to various towers [without the implication of there always being a taller one]. It is through
these humanizing images presented that the reader is able to feel sympathy towards someone who is
said to be feared due to his excess evil. By looking at Satan through different eyes it is although he
becomes somewhat relatable to humans and suggests that he is misunderstood. That possibly there is

Compare And Contrast Nuclear Fission And Nuclear Fusion
Even though nuclear fusion and nuclear fission sound alike, they re very different from each other.
Nuclear fusion is when two or more nuclei combine to making a new element with a higher atomic
number, and nuclear fission is the act of splitting a large atom into two or more smaller, lighter atoms.
Nuclear fission releases heat energy by splitting the atoms, and nuclear fusion makes heat energy by
taking smaller atoms and combining them together to make a bigger one. Nuclear fission usually
doesn t occur in nature, and is mostly used in nuclear power plants and stuff like that, while nuclear
fusion occurs in nature all the time; such as stars and the sun. Nuclear fusion is basically electricity

A Common Agreement Within The World That Deals With Men...
There is a common agreement within the world that deals with men and women being very different.
Along with the many physical characteristics that are distinct, it is also known that men and women
think differently as well and may have different reasons for their actions. Mary Harris is a researcher
and the author of Cholas, Mexican American Girls, and Gangs , within her research she has conducted
various interviews with females in gangs. From her research she has came to the conclusion that for
girls, Gang member s behavior is determined by social structures and group culture by defining the
perspective and attitude of the girl gang (Harris 301). In other words, Harris is explaining that peer
groups, such as gangs, to females tend to have a powerful influence on them by having certain rules,
values, and disciplinary actions. As these females further become members they tend to create
cooperativeness which then leads them into a feeling of doing anything for the gang and its members.
For these girls, violence is conforming behavior shaped by the normative standards of the subculture
(Harris 301). Throughout Harris interviews she was able to identify that youth deviance in females is
created through the constant conforming behavior that is upheld by the members. The conforming of
norms within the gang such as being more violent is very common. The reasons for youth deviance for
females in a gang is because of wanting more territory, be in control, and to gain power and

An Island Of The Pelicans ( Williams, 2016 ) Essay
Alcatraz was first discovered in 1775 by a spanish explorer, Juan Manuel del Ayala, which he named
the Island of the Pelicans (Williams, 2016). Alcatraz is now a national landmark established in the
1930 s. The renowned island located in the bay of San Francisco, California. During the 1930 s crimes
and gangs increased in an alarming rate due to the effects of The Great Depression (Williams, 2016).
Many crimes and gangs rose also when many laws were passed and put many behind bars (Raaphorst,
71). Donna Raaphorst, author of The History Of An Island Prison: From The Development To An
American Myth , states
In l932, the Threatening Communications Act and the Kidnapping Act passed. In l933, a new law
made it a federal crime to assault or kill a federal officer. The National Firearms Act, the National
Bank Robber Act, the Anti Racketeering Act, the Fugitive Felon Act, and the National Stolen Property
Act all passed in l934. Such legislation increased the role of the federal government in crime control
(Raaphorst,71).
Many notorious criminals were incarcerated and with many attempted to escape, Alcatraz was calling
for all inmates who were too hard to handle. There were existing penitentiaries where they had
dangerous convicts who wouldn t abide to the rules and had the continuous mindset to plan an escape
(Raaphorst, 2016). The United State s government realized that something needed to change and
formed a different approach of dealing with all the felons. Alcatraz Federal

Human Neutering And Its Effects On Humans
Imagine losing the reproductive system at the age of twenty five. All humans being unable to
reproduce at a certain age could save the Earth. The Earth is in a very fragile state; Earth is losing its
ability to be a habitat for the human race due to the volume of people living on its surface. There could
be a way to slow down this process though, through human neutering. Human neutering would
decrease overpopulation, allow the earth to reproduce its natural resources, and stop deforestation
from rapidly occurring. A form of human neutering does exist, and it has for a long time. This process
for males is called a vasectomy, this surgery should prevent sperm from entering the seminal track.
For a female it is called a Tubal ligation, this is where the flappoion tubes are pinched shut to prevent
fertilization. In todays world these two surgeries are by choice and not mandatory, if these two
surgeries were strictly enforced upon the human race at the age of twenty five it could save the Earth
from dying early. A decreased population could result in many positive outcomes for the planet. No
matter the location when a person looks straight ahead of themselves to their left, right, or behind
them there is most likely another human being standing around them. The Earth is becoming
overpopulated more quickly then it ever has before. The current world population of about 7 billion is
projected to top 8 billion by 2030, almost all of that growth is expected to come in the

The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda
Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904 in a
small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his father.
Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize
winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home.
In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we know as Pablo
Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his father s disapproval of
Neruda s interests in literature. This essay will analyze Neruda s life and how it may have influenced
his style, tone and other literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then
in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in our
Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed
like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp,
see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain.
Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda
s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems
reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This
does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can
lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the
political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of
Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the
person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s
motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them
happy as well. A small excerpt of the poem states, My struggle

The Politics Of The 1960s And 1960s
As political climates change, so do the themes found within cinema. The 1960s and 1970s were a time
of change for America. Feminism, civil rights movements, and gay rights movements were all
progressing, and liberal values were becoming more and more prevalent among the younger
generation. For conservatives, the 60s and 70s were seen as a time of decline; as a low point in
American history, and a time of regression in American society. The progressive and liberal values
were not positive changes for all Americans, but the changes were coming about nonetheless.
However, in the late 1970 s and the 1980 s there was a dramatic shift in the themes found in American
cinema that reflected the neo conservative political changes. With the ... Show more content on

alright because he is the hero saving the day). On the other hand, the female lead (played by Brigitte
Nielson) is the archetypal damsel in distress beautiful, but unable to take care of herself as she is
rescued in the end by the male lead. The scene where Brigitte Nielson is saved by Sylvester Stallone
as a masculine, patriotic song plays behind them reflects the patriarchal ideals of the 1950s. The idea
that men are above women; the idea that women need to be saved; the idea that women cannot help
themselves. These demonstrated ideals set back the progress in feminism that was established
throughout the 60s and 70s. Furthermore, in terms of attacking the audience, Needham puts an
emphasis on the opening credits of this film, and for good reason. The opening credits are used as a
tactic to manipulate the American audience; to make them feel as if they are being threatened. The
film begins with a barrel of a gun being pointed at the audience, as Sylvester Stallone s voice is listing
American crime statistics in the background. At the end of the credits, the gun fires a slow motion
bullet towards the audience. On this, Needham says, we, the audience, America, are quite literally
under attack. (Needham, 2016, p. 313) This symbolism reappears at the end of the film, where the
American audience is once again

Women And Domestic Marriage In The Victorian Period
The Victorian Period was the era of British Monarch; Queen Victoria, in this era women had
extremely limited right s. Women were not giving the choice to vote, sue or own any property. In
addition to that, they lost ownership of their wages, all of their physical belongings, and every other
cash they were able to generate once they were married. In fact, once women got married they legally
became property to their husbands, giving them ownership over their body. Meaning that they had the
right to use their wives body for: children, any sexual activity and/or domestic labor. Therefore, their
mutual matrimonial consent became a contract of women giving themselves to their husband s as they

The majority of women in that period did not have the option to decide whether they wanted to get

women, or abusing their wives, and still divorce was considered a social taboo. As a matter of fact,
many authors from this era used to address social issues, like the degradation of wives, in their
writing. Most of the authors that wrote pro feminist books, novels and/or articles were females, yet
there were a few male authors like: George Gissing, George Meredith and Grant Allen, who also
started writing about women s issues and their struggles.
The Odd Woman a novel by; George Gissing, talks about the roles of women in society such as
marriage, morals and the early feminist movement in the Victorian Period. Most middle class women
during the Victorian era, married by the time they were 25, but the ideal age for a woman to commit

Bayesian Learning Essay examples
BAYESIAN LEARNING
Abstract
Uncertainty has presented a difficult obstacle in artificial intelligence. Bayesian learning outlines a
mathematically solid method for dealing with uncertainty based upon Bayes Theorem. The theory
establishes a means for calculating the probability an event will occur in the future given some
evidence based upon prior occurrences of the event and the posterior probability that the evidence will
predict the event. Its use in artificial intelligence has been met with success in a number of research
areas and applications including the development of cognitive models and neural networks. At the
same time, the theory has been criticized for being philosophically unrealistic and logistically
inefficient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They allow intelligent systems flexibility and a logical way to update their database of knowledge.
The appeal of probability theories in AI lies in the way they express the qualitative relationship among
beliefs and can process these relationships to draw conclusions (Pearl, 1988).
One of the most formalized probabilistic theories used in AI relates to Bayes theorem. Bayesian
methods have been used for a variety of AI applications across many disciplines including cognitive
modeling, medical diagnosis, learning causal networks, and finance.
Two years after his death, in 1763, Rev. Thomas Bayes Essay Toward solving a Problem in the
Doctrine of Chances was published. Bayes is regarded as the first to use probability inductively and
established a mathematical basis for probability inference which he outlined in this now famous paper.
The idea behind Bayes method is simple; the probability that an event will occur in future trials can be
calculated from the frequency with which it has occurred in prior trails. Let s consider some everyday
knowledge to outline Bayes rule: where there s smoke, there s fire. We use this everyday cliche to
suggest cause and effect. But how are such relationships learned in and from everyday experience?
Conditional probability provides a way to estimate the likelihood of some outcome given a particular
situation. Bayes theorem further refines this idea by incorporating

Jim Jones And The Jonestown Massacre Essay
On November 18, 1978, followers of Jim Jones shot and killed United States Congressman Leo J.
Ryan and four others traveling with him on a fact finding trip to Guyana. Ryan was there to investigate
complaints about the community called Jonestown, which was largely inhabited by his former
California constituents.
After murdering a United States congressman Jones knew the end of his rule was near. He ordered his
entire following, some 914 people, to commit what he called revolutionary suicide. This included
more than 200 children.
The rise
Jones began his group in San Francisco and was once a respected community leader. He started
programs to help the elderly and poor. His circle of friends once included leading politicians, who ...

After the tragedy at Jonestown these politicians found it difficult to explain how Jim Jones so easily
took them in.
One of Jones long time followers Tim Stoen explained, There wasn t anything magical about Jim s
power. It was raw politics. He was able to deliver what politicians want, which is power. And how do
you get power? By votes. And how do you get votes? With people. Jim Jones could produce 3,000
people at a political event.
Agar Jaicks, Chairman of the county Democratic Central Committee seemed to agree with Stoen s
assessment when he said, What you had here was a ready made volunteer workforce he was very
strong here was a guy who could provide workers for causes.
Jones first step on his path to political influence began in the Fall of 1970. He created a fund for the
families of slain police officers. This was the beginning of a viable process he used to make valuable
friends through charitable contributions.
The first bad press Jones received in the Bay area was a somewhat critical story run by the San
Francisco Examiner in 1972. The paper exposed that Jones had claimed to be a prophet and said he
could raise the dead.
Perhaps to preempt any further embarrassment Jones subsequently gave out grants to 12 newspapers.
He even bussed his people to demonstrate in support of reporters who had been jailed for not revealing
confidential sources. Ironically, the man who would later flee from the press and oppress dissent

History of Ballet Essay
The History of Ballet
The first experience of watching a ballet, for me or any little girl, can be fascinating and exhilarating.
Wondering how a dancer can be so steady on her toes as she spins in circles and leaps through the air.
Watching a ballet, there is a feeling of wanting to be graceful, as well as the warm sensation felt by a
little girl as she slips into dream land. My mom had taken me to my first ballet when I was 11 years
old. When we returned home home, she signed me up for classes at the local dance center. The
expectations to become a prima ballerina would involve much hard work and concentration. I knew
when I started it would take years of steady practice and commitment. Learning the history of ballet

quot;Manon quot; and the operas quot;Don Juan quot; by Mozart, quot;War and Peace quot; by
Prokofiev and Wagner s quot;Das Rheingold quot;. The latest productions are Tchaikovsky s quot; The
Nutcracker quot; Puccini s quot;La Boheme quot; and Verdi s quot;Macbeth quot;. The most famous
Russian ballet companies are; Tatchkine, St. Petersburg, Bolshoi companies just to name a few of the

The history of ballet dates back to the 18th century starting with Baroque dance. Fabritio Caroso da
Sermoneta was a famous Italian Renaissance dancing master. He was born around 1526 1535 and died
around 1605 1620. His dance manual quot;Ballarino quot; was published in 1581, with a subsequent
edition, significantly different, Nobiltà de dame, printed in 1600 and again after his death in 1630. In
the 19th century there was the pre romantic, romantic and the classical ballets. Anthony Tudor
deserves an honorable mention for his choreography and teaching. Pre romantic ballet occurred
sometime circa ?? up to 1831. The romantic period covered the early to mid 1800 s. This era also
introduced the calf length dress. A few of the great Romantic dancers were Marie Taglioni, Fanny
Elssler and Carlotta Grisi. The tequnique became more developed, but the role

Protests In Antigone By Sophocles
Throughout Antigone, Sophocles develops the idea of emotion in protests through the actions of
Antigone. Antigone, angry at Creon s refusal to bury her dead brother, decides to protest and go
against the rule of the state. Creon responds in return, rashly sentencing Antigone to death. At the end,
the play ends in tragedy, with Creon s son Haemon, Creon s wife, and Antigone all dead from their
emotionally driven choices. Throughout his play, Sophocles develops the idea of pathos in protests,
showing that emotions are the driving force in starting many protests, the use of pathos is essential if
the protest wishes to grow and gather a following, and that relying on simply pathos and emotions will
lead to the failure of the protest without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play, Sophocles presents the great power pathos has on swaying the minds of people,
and the great importance it has in allowing a protest to flourish. When looking at the chorus, it is clear
the necessity pathos has in convincing others to join your side. When Antigone is sentenced to death,
the chorus says, In all her lovely strength she traded the light of day for the bolted brazen vault buried
within her tomb, her bridal chamber, wed to the yoke and broken. But she was of glorious birth my
child, my child (l.1036 1040). The positive light that the chorus shines onto Antigone, is a stark
contrast to how they portrayed Antigone as a wretched child in the beginning. The reason for this
sudden change is evident when the chorus mentions Antigone s current dire situation. By apealing to
the people s emotions through her actions of being sentenced to death, Antigone suceeds in gaining
support that she would not have had without the use of pathos. A modern example of the use of pathos
being vital in drawing people in to a protest could be seen throught the Civil Rights Movement led by
Maritn Luther King Jr. His use of pathos shines through in his Letter from Birmingham Jail , where he
writes, As you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public

Comparison of symbolism of kites in the Kite Runner and Master Harold and the boys
I am going to compare the symbolism of the kite in the play Master Harold and the boys by Athol
Fugard and in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossseini. Firstly I will talk about the symbolism
in both of the books separately. And then I will compare them to see the similarities and the
differences. The kite symbol has two different meanings. In the Kite Runner the kite represents kite
fighting and the blue kite that was the last opponent was the key to Baba s heart. In Master Harold and
the boys the kite is used to cheer up Hally when he was embarrassed by his farther. In the novel the
kite was made by a professional and in the play it is made by Sam. ... Show more content on

When Hally got to the top of the hill Sam moved down the hill a bit and held the kite up. The reason
of that was because a black man was not allowed to be in the same park as a white person. Sam
shouted Hally to go. This was the signal for Hally to run. Hally was impressed the kite was flying and
looping in the air. Hally couldn t believe it. At last he felt happy again and was proud to have Sam as a
friend. It works, Sam! We ve done it! This quote shows how Hally is now happy again and Sam had
succeeded in his job of making Hally feel better.
The kite represents sad moments in the play. When Sam and Hally were flying the kite they tied it to a
bench where they could sit and watch it fly. Sam had to leave but I wanted him to stay . This shows
that Hally wants to share his happy moments with Sam. The problem is that in 1950 in South Africa
rules were different and a black man was not allowed to sit on the same bench as a white man. It was
sort of sad to bring it down . This explains that the idea of the kite flying in the air got him into a
fantasy world and now that the kite is on the ground he is back in the reality.
Hally asks Sam if they should do it again, make another kite and enjoy the moments as they shared
last time. But Sam said No. You can t fly kites on rainy days which mean you can t be happy when
you re sad.
In The Kite Runner the kite does not always symbolize happiness also it shows cowardice and
betrayal. It shows that

greatest accomplishments that changed the world forever. Those accomplishments consisted of such a
wide variety of inventions. Two of those inventions were his Flying machine (See Fig A1) and his

Machiavelli on Principalities and Republics
Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (1469 1527) is one of history s most renowned political theorists.
Truly a Renaissance Man , he excelled in many disciplines and was an avid scholar of the ancients, but
his most enduring legacy has been his political theories, particularly those outlined in The Prince.
Popular culture, however, has a skewed perception of Machiavelli s own personal political ideals.

the prince, his longer work, The Discourses, extolls the virtues of republics and provides a detailed
analysis of the republics of Ancient Italy compared to modern Italian republics and more closely ...

Although he does say that these princes have achieved their power and status through immoral means,
he also states that whether or not they are justified depends on whether cruelty be well or badly used.
Well used are those cruelties (if it is permitted to speak well of evil) that are carried out in a single
stroke, done out of necessity to protect oneself, and are not continued but are instead converted into
the greatest possible benefits for the subjects (Machiavelli, 106). He indicates that often times the
prince, as a ruler of his people, cannot make the same choices that would be considered moral for a
normal person. As a ruler, he must consider the good of all of the people, and in doing so must
sometimes choose the route which on the surface appears to be immoral and evil, but will in theory
create the most good for his people while also maintaining or bolstering the prince s power over the
people.
In spite of these statements, not all of his instructions are as unethical as his critics have made them
out to be. Later, in Chapter IX, he states that a prince must have the friendship of the common people;
otherwise he will have no support in times of adversity (109). It is out of pragmatism, and not
morality, that he makes this assertion. The good will and well being of the people are conducive to
maintaining order and may help preserve the prince s position of power. First and foremost, however,
is that preservation of power for the

mean that I don t still worry about it. I m still feeding them the same food, but I am watching my pets

I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted, it will make me sick, too. Most of

Similarly, escalation of commitment starts with one decision which leads to another until the chain of

escalation of commitment is a pattern of behavior in which a group or individual when faced with
increasingly negative outcomes from a decision, will continue rather than alter their course to the
extent of irrationality to stay in alignment with previous decisions. A classic escalation of commitment
scenario involves company management holding off reporting faulty products, then the products are
released, customers start to get harmed by the products, and because the management originally
committed to hiding the defects of their products, they refuse to admit there is a problem and recall the
products. This scenario also indicates some of the impacts that escalation of commitment can have on

likely organizational outcomes of the previous scenario. In addition, seeing immoral decisions being

Computer Interaction Has Changed Within The Economy
Within recent years human computer interaction has changed within the economy I will discuss three
factors which interlink with this. These are increased automation, productivity and varied working
environments.
Increased automation
o Bank
Firstly you have increased automation within a banking environment you now have three main ways
of banking. 1. Online 2. Telephone Banking 3. Branch most major banks have introduced productive
ways of banking to suit economy. Know two individuals bank the same everyone likes something
different you will find that generation will fuel the channel in which and individual will decide to

This is a prime example of how changes within the economy are effecting those who work for the
banks and also customers of the bank.
It could be argued that making changes can help economy as more avenues have been introduced
giving customers more choice. This allows for any customer who works antisocial hours take control
of their banking, it allows for every customer to be treated fairly as everyone has the same
opportunities with their banking. For example savings account online normally have a higher interest
rate to those offered in branch these accounts are optional for every customer however you need to
bank online to manage the account therefore you automatically introducing yourself to a new avenue
of banking.
It could be argued that making changes is harming the economy as manual labour is taking a cut
therefore more individuals are unemployed. More unemployment puts a strain on the government this
would then be costing the government.
Increased automation
o retail (Inc. stock levels/reordering)
Within the retail environment there has also been many changes which have had a knock on effect
with the economy. The two many factors which need to be consider would be stock levels and
reordering of stock.
So for reordering stock and checking stock levels you can invest in an accounting software which will
check your stock levels on a regular bases allowing for less labouring staff to be

Introduction
Depreciation expense is the way that the use of an asset is matched with the revenue that is generated
from the asset on the income statement during the time period being reported. Each asset used in a
business has a useful life as disclosed by the company s depreciation policies for each category of
asset. The other piece of calculating depreciation is the assumed salvage or residual value. There are
several different methods of depreciating an asset:

What does it gain or lose by doing so? How does this relate to the company s overall strategy?
Singapore maintains one of the youngest average fleet ages in the industry at 5.1 years old. They were
depreciating their aircraft over 8 years with a salvage value of 10% up until 1989 and then increased it
to 10 years and 20% salvage value. The average depreciation rate per $100 for Singapore Airlines was
$11.25 prior to this change and $8.00 after, compared with Delta s $6.00. The company is majority
owned by the Singapore government, but did not receive any subsidy from the government. Its stock
is, however, followed by over 20 investment analysts worldwide. In 1993, their net profit dropped
from $922 to $741 million in Singapore dollars as depreciation expense as a percent of total operating
expenses had grown from 14.8% to 15.8% in one year. Staff bonuses were cut from 3.4 months of pay
to .5 months of pay in one year. The other issue that that was hurting their profitability was that their
strategy was not in line with their utilization rate of only 71.3%, down from 78.9% in 1989. They
should have been focusing on the amount of depreciation they were paying expensing as a percent of
operating expense much sooner. With profits and utilization rates declining constantly over the last
five years, a focus on the depreciation methods could have helped them reduce the decline in net
profits. With an aggressive capital expansion program

Renaissance Horse Identity Essay
The horse once dominated human environments, permeating all of society during the Renaissance.
The popularity of this animal produced a unique and influential identity for the horse during this
period, and this identity constituted several parts. With this multifaceted identity, the horse received
new roles in human society. I am attempting to explain these roles of the horse and their effects on the
horse and human. By first explaining the context of the horse and rider of the Renaissance, I set up a
discussion of the specific changes the humans caused in the horse. The transformation of the horse
included changes in identity and perception along with a rider. This new identity stressed a greater
unity between horse and rider, and the reservation of this identity to the elite of society idealized the
horse and rider. Whenever artists and writers depicted the horse and rider, their united identity
associated with the most respected class in Renaissance society. This association caused the
widespread veneration of the horse and rider. Since this new identity constituted multiple parts and
perceptions, explaining each new part is essential to understanding the identity of the Renaissance
horse. Then uniting these identities describes the varied expression and perception of the horse more
clearly than leaving the parts isolated. Finally, I discuss the most important impact of the horse s
identity during the Renaissance and its implications. In this paper, I propose that the

Analysis Of Public Key Encryption
1 INTRODUCTION
Public key encryption is a powerful mechanism for ensuring the confidentiality of stored and
transmitted data. The traditional encryption is regarded as a method to share data to some targeted
person or device that the sender knows. This means the sender knows specifically which user he wants
to share with. However, in many systems the message sender will want to share date with a group of
people whose credentials or attributes accord to some access policy set by the sender.[8][9]A new
vision of encryption[10]was presented, where the sender can express how he wants to share data in the
encryption algorithm itself. The sender will give an attribute formula to describe the users who can
decrypt this data. Then only those whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

CP ABE is extremely efficient and secure in the system in terms of the fine grained access control of
attributes. Theoretically, based on some previous researches, this paper will simply introduce the

2 BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH
In 2007, a new methodology for realizing Ciphertext Policy Attribute
Encryption (CP ABE)[3]under concrete and non interactive cryptographic assumptions in the standard
model came out and a basic framework of this model was constructed. This scheme, referred as BSW
scheme, uses threshold secret sharing to enforce the policy. The main drawback of BSW scheme is the
complexity and computing time in decryption phase, which requires may expensive pairing and
exponentiation operations. In 2009, there is a scheme of CP ABE mentioned before was presented,
which is efficient and provable secure.[5]This scheme can express any access policy involving AND,
OR and OF operator (threshold) by defining the privacy policy through access tree instead of
threshold secret sharing which

  • 2. Analysis Of Fred Schepis s A Cry STAGE 1: ANALYSIS Fred Schepis s A Cry in the Dark 1988 is a movie based on the courtroom drama with taglines around A family torn apart, a crowd full of rage and a woman accused of murder. It is a movie that runs for 120 minutes (feature length film). The movie DVD comes with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that helps in the conservation of the original acting aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The soundtracks are in English and French and are in the form of Dolby Digital Surround technology. It also has accessible Subtitles that are in both languages. The movie has its supplemental materials i.e. the theatrical trailer. The quality of the picture and sound, accompanied by the splendid performance by Streep at the heart of the film, makes this movie worth looking at, especially considering the inexpensive list price. This paper focuses on the analysis of this movie, attempting to bring to the light a brief synopsis of the movie, the main theme and how it relates to the people in the society and also how the lives of the characters influence individuals today. This title of the movie was selected carefully by the film writers John Bryson (novel) and Robert Caswell (screenplay). All through the movie we see a silently suffering family whose misery is a source of the story for others. • 3. Malala Core Values Our lives are like a quilt that is made up of blocks of memories, stitched together with love, dedication, and determination. The memories are what make up the bulk of our lives; they influence us, and help us shape our values. For someone at such a young age twenty years old to be exact Malala s quilt is her equivalent to Joseph s biblical coat of colors: it is bursting at the seams with pigmented hues that make up her experiences. However, not all experiences are pleasant; some of them are troublesome, distasteful, and overall, they stick with us. Regardless of the type of memory, they are guaranteed to affect a person s values. But despite everything that has happened to Malala, she has kept her core values, such as education and family. She has faced many hardships in her life that would have caused the average person to give up; however she stayed strong and continued to be who she is. One of the very first things that a reader picks up from Malala s memoir is how close she is with her family, specifically her father. From the moment she was born, an unbreakable bond was formed between the two of them. Malala mentioned that he looked into my eyes after I was born and fell in love, (Yousafzai 2013, p.14). It s moments such as those that make it clear how the two of them will forever be inseparable. Even in her younger years, Malala describes how she easily became entrapped by her father s story telling. One moment Malala recounts from her younger years is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Network File System was designed so that users could transparently and remotely access files on the network in the same way as if the file was on the local disk. It can be easily ported to various operating systems and architectures. The iSCSI protocol provides encapsulation to SCSI commands and rearranged packet to the TCP/IP layer. These encapsulated packets are then sent over the internet on a P2P connection. • 5. Sea Turtle Water Pollution Essay Water pollution wreaks havoc on marine organisms around the world. It is a leading cause of species endangerment. One animal that has overwhelmingly felt the effects of water pollution is the sea turtle. I am especially interested in the effects of water pollution on sea turtles as I have worked at a leatherback sea turtle conservatory called San San Pond Sak in Bocas Del Toro, Panama for two summers. I learned extensively about the hardships that these turtles fae, dealing with a horde of problems from egg poaching to injuries due to water pollution. Sea turtles don t have it easy from the start. It is estimated that somewhere between a mere 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 survive to adulthood (accurate estimates are challenging to obtain). These turtles face tribulations beginning in the nest, such as humans disturbing eggs and predators attacking baby turtles on their march to the ocean. Humans often don t realize the detrimental effects they can have on turtles. For example, artificial lighting along beaches can cause a mother sea turtle to lay eggs in a less than optimal spot, or cause a hatchling to crawl away from the ocean (they use the moonlight to guide themselves towards the water). Various species of sea turtles are distributed throughout warm/temperate waters around the globe. Most inhabit coastal waters, lagoons, estuaries, and bays; although some venture deeper into open waters. Sea turtles are also migratory animals. Some species feed and nest in the same area, whereas Leatherbacks have been observed to migrate up to 3,000 miles to nest. Once a sea turtle reaches maturity, (10 50 years after hatching, depending on species) a mother will return to the same shore she was born at a few times per nesting season, every 2 4 years. Hatchlings tend to eat mollusks and small crustaceans, hydrozoans, seaweed, fish eggs, and jellies. An adult sea turtles diet varies depending on species. Some species such as Green sea turtles are herbivorous, eating mainly algae and seaweeds. Others such as the leatherback are referred to as gelatinivores, meaning they eat mainly jellies, tunicates, and sea squirts. Various other species are carnivores, spongivores, or omnivores. As a whole, sea turtles control the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ethnographic Analysis Of Apple Airpod The production of a box is very difficult and complicated. It all depends on what you are shipping and where you are shipping it to. If you are shipping a big heavy item you will need a big sturdy box if you are shipping a product far distance you may need something like a crate. It all depends on the size. Box dimensions are displayed as: Length x Width x Depth that determines how big or small the box may be. For example let s say Amazon® ships a smartphone to me I ll have to measure the smartphones length width and depth and multiply them all together to get the total area of the phone. I ll use the measurements of the new Iphone X the height is 5.65 inches the width is 2.79 inches and the depth is 0.30 inches. These are the total measurements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s just the phone you have to leave space for the wall charger and AirPods. The measurements of the Apple Airpods are 1.74 by 0.84 by 2.11 inches. The area of the Apple Airpods are 3 inches squared. The measurements for the wall charger are 1.62 x 1.3 x 0.81 and the area is 2 inches squared. Now that we have found the area of all the items in the box we have to add all of the areas of the other items like wall charger and AirPods plus the phone itself. When these are all added this will determine what the total area is. When all the areas are added up you ll get 10 inches squared as the area of the box. No that the area is found we can determine how expensive or inexpensive the boxes might me. The fact that Apple ships hundred of thousands of Iphone X s a day are crucial because the boxes cost money too that means that they spend millions of dollars on boxing a year which means they have to make an affordable safe box that won t break the phone in shipping or have the box get damaged too quickly. If they make the boxes to expensive it can lead to Apple losing more money than they earn. One way Apple makes the Iphone ten box an inexpensive box by keeping all of the items tight in. It serves as a indicator for the reader that helps decide whether to continue on reading the whole text or to skip it onto another one. Each headline should be a summary of the news which follows. A headline should be a regular sentence structure containing a subject and a verb. It means that only lexical, not grammatical words are used. The major reason for that is the space. Along with the many physical characteristics that are distinct, it is also known that men and women think differently as well and may have different reasons for their actions. Mary Harris is a researcher and the author of Cholas, Mexican American Girls, and Gangs , within her research she has conducted various interviews with females in gangs. From her research she has came to the conclusion that for girls, Gang member s behavior is determined by social structures and group culture by defining the perspective and attitude of the girl gang (Harris 301). In other words, Harris is explaining that peer groups, such as gangs, to females tend to have a powerful influence on them by having certain rules, values, and disciplinary actions. As these females further become members they tend to create cooperativeness which then leads them into a feeling of doing anything for the gang and its members. For these girls, violence is conforming behavior shaped by the normative standards of the subculture (Harris 301). Throughout Harris interviews she was able to identify that youth deviance in females is created through the constant conforming behavior that is upheld by the members. The conforming of norms within the gang such as being more violent is very common. The Earth is in a very fragile state; Earth is losing its ability to be a habitat for the human race due to the volume of people living on its surface. There could be a way to slow down this process though, through human neutering. Human neutering would decrease overpopulation, allow the earth to reproduce its natural resources, and stop deforestation from rapidly occurring. A form of human neutering does exist, and it has for a long time. This process for males is called a vasectomy, this surgery should prevent sperm from entering the seminal track. For a female it is called a Tubal ligation, this is where the flappoion tubes are pinched shut to prevent fertilization. Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. For conservatives, the 60s and 70s were seen as a time of decline; as a low point in American history, and a time of regression in American society. The progressive and liberal values were not positive changes for all Americans, but the changes were coming about nonetheless. The scene where Brigitte Nielson is saved by Sylvester Stallone as a masculine, patriotic song plays behind them reflects the patriarchal ideals of the 1950s. The idea that men are above women; the idea that women need to be saved; the idea that women cannot help themselves. These demonstrated ideals set back the progress in feminism that was established throughout the 60s and 70s. The film begins with a barrel of a gun being pointed at the audience, as Sylvester Stallone s voice is listing American crime statistics in the background. At the end of the credits, the gun fires a slow motion bullet towards the audience. On this, Needham says, we, the audience, America, are quite literally under attack. Bayesian methods have been used for a variety of AI applications across many disciplines including cognitive modeling, medical diagnosis, learning causal networks, and finance. Two years after his death, in 1763, Rev. Thomas Bayes Essay Toward solving a Problem in the Doctrine of Chances was published. Bayes is regarded as the first to use probability inductively and established a mathematical basis for probability inference which he outlined in this now famous paper. The idea behind Bayes method is simple; the probability that an event will occur in future trials can be calculated from the frequency with which it has occurred in prior trails. When Antigone is sentenced to death, the chorus says, In all her lovely strength she traded the light of day for the bolted brazen vault buried within her tomb, her bridal chamber, wed to the yoke and broken. But she was of glorious birth my child, my child (l.1036 1040). The positive light that the chorus shines onto Antigone, is a stark contrast to how they portrayed Antigone as a wretched child in the beginning. The reason for this sudden change is evident when the chorus mentions Antigone s current dire situation. By apealing to the people s emotions through her actions of being sentenced to death, Antigone suceeds in gaining support that she would not have had without the use of pathos. A modern example of the use of pathos being vital in drawing people in to a protest could be seen throught the Civil Rights Movement led by Maritn Luther King Jr. His use of pathos shines through in his Letter from Birmingham Jail , where he writes, As you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can t go to the public ... Hally was impressed the kite was flying and looping in the air. Hally couldn t believe it. At last he felt happy again and was proud to have Sam as a friend. It works, Sam! We ve done it! This explains that the idea of the kite flying in the air got him into a fantasy world and now that the kite is on the ground he is back in the reality. Hally asks Sam if they should do it again, make another kite and enjoy the moments as they shared last time. But Sam said No. You can t fly kites on rainy days which mean you can t be happy when you re sad. In The Kite Runner the kite does not always symbolize happiness also it shows cowardice and betrayal. That was a dream that the true renaissance man Leonardo Da Vinci had, but why was he called the true Renaissance Man? The reasons he was called that was that Leonardo was very intelligent and very well trained about a wide variety of topics including painting, math and engineering. This lead to him having some of the greatest accomplishments that changed the world forever. Those accomplishments consisted of such a wide variety of inventions. Two of those inventions were his Flying machine (See Fig A1) and his Helicopter or aerial screw. (See fig A2). • 28. Machiavelli The Prince Research Paper Machiavelli on Principalities and Republics Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (1469 1527) is one of history s most renowned political theorists. Truly a Renaissance Man , he excelled in many disciplines and was an avid scholar of the ancients, but his most enduring legacy has been his political theories, particularly those outlined in The Prince. Popular culture, however, has a skewed perception of Machiavelli s own personal political ideals. Although Machiavelli s The Prince discusses governance of a principality from the point of view of the prince, his longer work, The Discourses, extolls the virtues of republics and provides a detailed analysis of the republics of Ancient Italy compared to modern Italian republics and more closely ... Although he does say that these princes have achieved their power and status through immoral means, he also states that whether or not they are justified depends on whether cruelty be well or badly used. Well used are those cruelties (if it is permitted to speak well of evil) that are carried out in a single stroke, done out of necessity to protect oneself, and are not continued but are instead converted into the greatest possible benefits for the subjects (Machiavelli, 106). He indicates that often times the prince, as a ruler of his people, cannot make the same choices that would be considered moral for a normal person. As a ruler, he must consider the good of all of the people, and in doing so must sometimes choose the route which on the surface appears to be immoral and evil, but will in theory create the most good for his people while also maintaining or bolstering the prince s power over the people. In spite of these statements, not all of his instructions are as unethical as his critics have made them out to be. Later, in Chapter IX, he states that a prince must have the friendship of the common people; otherwise he will have no support in times of adversity (109). It is out of pragmatism, and not morality, that he makes this assertion. The good will and well being of the people are conducive to maintaining order and may help preserve the prince s position of power. First and foremost, however, is that preservation of power for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thank goodness it wasn t. But that doesn t mean that I don t still worry about it. I m still feeding them the same food, but I am watching my pets very closely for any abnormal behavior at all. I m sure many pet owners are doing the same. But I did decide I could do one thing for my dogs and that is to make them some dog biscuits myself. That way, I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted, it will make me sick, too. Most of the ingredients for these homemade dog biscuits are items already in my kitchen. A few years ago, my sister had given me a dog biscuit set. I ve used it a couple of times, then put it up and forgot about it. Now, I ve pulled it out again. The company s name is You Bake Em Dog Biscuits with P.C. Edge s World Famous Recipes . It came with three cookie cutters: a fire hydrant, a bone and of course a cat. It also included a mini book with tips on caring for your dog and several recipes. Making them is simple and quick, so I thought I d share a few of the recipes. Example Of Escalation Of Commitment The Perils of Escalation of Commitment 4402 Organizational Behavior University of the People Instructor: Edith Koopmans Write a two page informative essay that describes escalation of commitment and the impact that it has within an organization. Use an example to illustrate escalation of commitment. Running Head: ESCALATION OF COMMITMENT Page 2 Ethics seem straight forward when you are faced with a decision you simply look at the moral dimensions and select the right choice. However, in the real world, it is almost never that easy. Similarly, escalation of commitment starts with one decision which leads to another until the chain of event spins out of control and goes far beyond what was ever intended by the first action. Essentially escalation of commitment is a pattern of behavior in which a group or individual when faced with increasingly negative outcomes from a decision, will continue rather than alter their course to the extent of irrationality to stay in alignment with previous decisions. A classic escalation of commitment scenario involves company management holding off reporting faulty products, then the products are released, customers start to get harmed by the products, and because the management originally committed to hiding the defects of their products, they refuse to admit there is a problem and recall the products. This scenario also indicates some of the impacts that escalation of commitment can have on an organization. For instance, lawsuits, lack of community and stockholder trust, loss of value, are all likely organizational outcomes of the previous scenario. The sport of wrestling has many difficult tasks and most people say that you don t have to cut weight you really don t but it s part of the sport just like fouls are a part of basketball. Cutting weight is one of the hardest parts of the sport. As much as I love the sport of wrestling is probably how much I hate cutting weight, if not more. When we got to Cedar Falls I don t remember what I weighed exactly but I do remember running in the parking lot of the hotel we were staying at before we went to weigh ins. I had been running for about 15 20 min and my dad brought me back to the room and we made a homemade sauna in the bathroom. When we left for weigh ins I had no clue what I weighed. Branch most major banks have introduced productive ways of banking to suit economy. It could be argued that making changes can help economy as more avenues have been introduced giving customers more choice. This allows for any customer who works antisocial hours take control of their banking, it allows for every customer to be treated fairly as everyone has the same opportunities with their banking. For example savings account online normally have a higher interest rate to those offered in branch these accounts are optional for every customer however you need to bank online to manage the account therefore you automatically introducing yourself to a new avenue of banking. It could be argued that making changes is harming the economy as manual labour is taking a cut therefore more individuals are unemployed. More unemployment puts a strain on the government this would then be costing the government. Increased automation o retail (Inc. stock levels/reordering) Within the retail environment there has also been many changes which have had a knock on effect with the economy. The two many factors which need to be consider would be stock levels and reordering of stock. Merle, MBA February 27, 2013 Emma Waage Roarke Stone Tim Gould Introduction Depreciation expense is the way that the use of an asset is matched with the revenue that is generated from the asset on the income statement during the time period being reported. Each asset used in a business has a useful life as disclosed by the company s depreciation policies for each category of asset. The other piece of calculating depreciation is the assumed salvage or residual value. There are several different methods of depreciating an asset: 1) Straight line = [pic] 2) Double declining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What does it gain or lose by doing so? How does this relate to the company s overall strategy? Singapore maintains one of the youngest average fleet ages in the industry at 5.1 years old. They were depreciating their aircraft over 8 years with a salvage value of 10% up until 1989 and then increased it to 10 years and 20% salvage value. The average depreciation rate per $100 for Singapore Airlines was $11.25 prior to this change and $8.00 after, compared with Delta s $6.00. The company is majority owned by the Singapore government, but did not receive any subsidy from the government. Its stock is, however, followed by over 20 investment analysts worldwide. In 1993, their net profit dropped from $922 to $741 million in Singapore dollars as depreciation expense as a percent of total operating expenses had grown from 14.8% to 15.8% in one year. Staff bonuses were cut from 3.4 months of pay to .5 months of pay in one year. The other issue that that was hurting their profitability was that their strategy was not in line with their utilization rate of only 71.3%, down from 78.9% in 1989. They should have been focusing on the amount of depreciation they were paying expensing as a percent of operating expense much sooner. With profits and utilization rates declining constantly over the last five years, a focus on the depreciation methods could have helped them reduce the decline in net profits. • 37. Renaissance Horse Identity Essay The horse once dominated human environments, permeating all of society during the Renaissance. The popularity of this animal produced a unique and influential identity for the horse during this period, and this identity constituted several parts. With this multifaceted identity, the horse received new roles in human society. I am attempting to explain these roles of the horse and their effects on the horse and human. By first explaining the context of the horse and rider of the Renaissance, I set up a discussion of the specific changes the humans caused in the horse. The transformation of the horse included changes in identity and perception along with a rider. This new identity stressed a greater unity between horse and rider, and the reservation of this identity to the elite of society idealized the horse and rider. Whenever artists and writers depicted the horse and rider, their united identity associated with the most respected class in Renaissance society. This association caused the widespread veneration of the horse and rider. Since this new identity constituted multiple parts and perceptions, explaining each new part is essential to understanding the identity of the Renaissance horse. Then uniting these identities describes the varied expression and perception of the horse more clearly than leaving the parts isolated. Finally, I discuss the most important impact of the horse s identity during the Renaissance and its implications. In this paper, I propose that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Analysis Of Public Key Encryption 1 INTRODUCTION Public key encryption is a powerful mechanism for ensuring the confidentiality of stored and transmitted data. The traditional encryption is regarded as a method to share data to some targeted person or device that the sender knows. This means the sender knows specifically which user he wants to share with. However, in many systems the message sender will want to share date with a group of people whose credentials or attributes accord to some access policy set by the sender.[8][9]A new vision of encryption[10]was presented, where the sender can express how he wants to share data in the encryption algorithm itself. The sender will give an attribute formula to describe the users who can decrypt this data. Then only those whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, users use their attribute private key to decrypt the cipher text. In this case it is the users attribute instead of the traditional public key that is matched with their private key. CP ABE is extremely efficient and secure in the system in terms of the fine grained access control of attributes. Theoretically, based on some previous researches, this paper will simply introduce the algorithm scheme and how it working. Practically, I will compare some libraries which implement CP ABE and try to implement a small program using these different libraries 2 BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH In 2007, a new methodology for realizing Ciphertext Policy Attribute Encryption (CP ABE)[3]under concrete and non interactive cryptographic assumptions in the standard model came out and a basic framework of this model was constructed. This scheme, referred as BSW scheme, uses threshold secret sharing to enforce the policy. The main drawback of BSW scheme is the complexity and computing time in decryption phase, which requires may expensive pairing and exponentiation operations. In 2009, there is a scheme of CP ABE mentioned before was presented, which is efficient and provable secure.[5]This scheme can express any access policy involving AND, OR and OF operator (threshold) by defining the privacy policy through access tree instead of threshold secret sharing which ...
