2. Determinism And Neoplatonism
In a remote medieval village, a child is born. Unfortunately, the local priest soon
claims him to be destined to an afterlife in Purgatory; no amount of virtuous action,
charity, or veneration can save the child from his fate. While certainly a hyperbole,
such an event is not a far cry from the religious beliefs of medieval Europe. During
this period, the prevailing belief of the time was a deterministic and cynical view of
human nature. Pope Innocent III describes how ...man was formed out of earth,
conceived in guilt, born to punishment... he will become fuel for eternal fires food for
worms, a mass of rottenness (De Segni 1). Under the belief of the time, humans were
thought to be predestined to their fate; this deterministic view of human potential or
lack thereof was characteristic of the medieval era. The turning point in this belief
was the emergence of humanism in the 14th and 15th centuries. As the name
suggests, humanism emphasized the malleability and perfectibility of man, as well as
a rediscovery of antiquity. Determinism became... Show more content on

Neoplatonism represented a turn away from the practical concerns of civic humanists
to an exploration of the grand ideals of truth and perfection (Chambers 397). Pico
della Mirandola believed the universe to be ordered in a hierarchy, with every being
in the universe holding a compulsion to seek perfection. These ideals, along with
other ideals of Neoplatonism, were extremely prevalent within Pico della
Mirandola s work. One of Pico della Mirandola s most influential works, Oration on
the Dignity of Man, promoted many of his ideas and those of Neoplatonism; Pico s
Oration is commonly referred to as ...the Manifesto of the Renaissance [and] is
widely regarded as a beautiful declaration of the greatness of human freedom and
ability (Truglia 158). Two ideas are central to the Oration: free will and the
deification of
3. Animal Cruelty Is A Crime Against Humanity
In order to constitute animal cruelty as a Crime Against Humanity we must prove
that society is ignoring the violence towards them despite the research evidence, the
government sanctions mass killings of them, and that this type of violence affects
humans on a large scale (Plant, Schaik, Gullone, Flynn 2016). Although dispositional
factors such as empathy and aggression may influence animal cruelty, we must look
at the environmental factors that lead to the negative effects from a macro level
perspective. In this analysis, I will review whether exposure to animal cruelty
correlates with future maladaptive behaviors and the damaging effects it may have
when perpetrated at a large scale.

This proposes the idea of how actions of animal maltreatment are similar to actions of
child or domestic violence. The second reason stated in the book Child Abuse,
Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for
Prevention and Intervention, is that cowardly acts of aggression against vulnerable
members of the family are matters of power and control. The victims can be of any
size, age, gender, or species, it is simply a matter of the opportunity that presents
itself (Ascione Arkow 1999). Lastly, the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and
Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention,
states that any act of aggression or violence within the entire family can put the
members of that family at risk. The dangers of this violence may also reach out as
far as the community and its children (Ascione Arkow 1999).
An example of animal exploitation spilling over to other forms of violence is the
relationship between animal violence and intimate partner violence. In a study done
in April 2007, researchers asked both battered and non battered women to report
whether their partner had any history of abusing their pets at home. The women
living in the domestic violence shelter were nearly 11 times more likely to report that
their partner had hurt or killed pets than the group of non battered women (Ascione,
Weber, Thompson, Heath, Maruyama 2016). They also found that for the group of
battered

Since the beginning of time stories and tales would always be told tales of young

The story goes as follows Beowulf, the strongest heroof the Geats, comes to help the

5. The Original Ending Of The Gospel Of Mark
When you open the Gospel of Mark, you will find that it does not end with the
eight sections (MK 16:1 8) of the chapter sixteen. Because there are twelve sections
(MK 16: 9 20) for the end of the Mark after that eight sections. However, some Bible
scholars believe that twelve sections are not the original ending, because its writing
style and sentences are obviously different from the Mark. This text is obviously
added to the list after Mark. Scholars believe that there are two relatively credible
reasons: First, in the early church, some of the scribes tried to make the story s
outcome more satisfactory; second, Some Biblescholars believe that the original
ending of Mark has been lost, so people tried to make up. So why the original ending
of the Mark is an omit ending?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, in the entire of the Mark, he keeps telling us that, there are a lot of
people do not know Jesus and many people refused to believe him. Mark s
description approaches are likely wanting people to believe Jesus by their personal
faith, not by the story. The purpose of the Mark ending is not only want people to

Target Market and Market Segmentation: The above demonstrated Farmer s Fridge
log has been renovated to reflect a more modern, culturally stimulating and
reflecting the country of the Philippines. The logo consists of a mango like shape
in the back drop which also represents the sun. This decision is based off of one of
the Philippines most popular fruits, the mango. The reference to the sun derives from
the country s flag which has a sun with eight rays shooting off that reflect the
countries eight provinces. The updated company s logo also incorporates the yellows
and greens used within the original logo; but are focused on being more vibrant and

7. Big Brother Symbolism
Big Brother: Protector or Dark Representative As far as the eye can see, the posters
so bold and ubiquitous boast Big Brother Is Watching You (Orwell 3). He is the
leader of the Party, yet he is also the government itself; he is a symbol representing
much more than what is implied. In 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother
represents the darkness behind the Party. This dark symbolism is evident in big
brother s name using the principles of doublespeak, similarities between big brother
and dictators, big brother s totalitarian like action and purpose, and the fear caused
by big brother s unceasing watch on his people. Though Big Brother is a symbol for
the Party s darkness, some readers interpret his character as harmless. Afterall, big

Much like Hitler, Franco, and Stalin, Big Brother is worshipped by his followers,
though the worship of Big Brother is especially important because it takes place of

knows that truth is textual and thusly creates the Ministry of Truth to dispose of
books and other such documentation of stories that do not suit his needs, much like
how Hitler burned books for the same purpose (Ingersoll). This knowledge was
carried out to such an extent that Big Brother could rewrite astronomy to make the
stars mere miles away from Earth if such a truth accorded with the unrestrained
exercise of power by the Party (Ingersoll). Another example of Big Brother s
similarity to dictators can be found when Winston sees himself after he has been

that of a skeleton, and [astonishing]curvature of the spine, is hauntingly similar to

To sustain growth and revenue and stay ahead of potential competition SAI Toys

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)

As the haunting tone of Angel by Sarah McLachlan begins to play, numerous viewers
decide to switch the channel, mute the TV, or even complete other tasks away from
the TV to avoid feeling guilty as the images of the mistreated animals flash across the
screen, which are constraints for the ad. This heart wrenching commercial raises
awareness for animal abuse and its attempt to put a stop to it. In recent decades, more

Most people would be annoyed at giving an organization around $20 a month.
However, when it is broken down into a daily contribution that is less than a dollar a
day, it seems feasible for people to donate the amount to aid these poor animals. The
images of the animals for whom the assistance came too late implies that if one
more person had donated, that animal would have been saved. Therefore, the
commercial implies that if they do not donate, the animal in need of their aid will
die. Their plea for donations is supported by the images of the doleful animals and
the videos of the animals who are struggling even to walk because of the injuries
that they have faced. Additionally, the beginning of the commercial presents the
viewers with a statistic of 3000 animals are tortured in America every day
(ASPCA). This shows how often this type of abuse occurs in America, and how
critical it is to attempt to stop the mistreatment of the animals. However, with the
fiscal support of the viewers, the organization can put a stop to this inhumane
treatment of animals and thus create exceptional lives for them overall. Finally, the
viewers who donate are supplied with a picture of an animal, and a t shirt, who they
have aided in saving, thus making their donation seem tangible and less superfluous.
These objects are meant to be rewards for the people who donate, and therefore can
be utilized to spread the message of the ASPCA around to other

Macdonald Sharp, 2003 states that it is a strong influencer in the buying decision
consideration process, as most of the consumers prefer buying brands they are
aware and would like to be confident when making the purchase decision. The cost
of acquiring customers is a significant expense for most businesses so higher brand
awareness will help draw potential customers with little or no costs. Retaining
customers is an even harder process than the former so strong brand loyalty among
the customers will help sustain the business on a long term basis. Popular brands
often use tools like newsletters, promotions, and satisfaction surveys to stay in touch
with their existing to pool of customers in order to maintain brand awareness among
consumers. Brands should also focus on research related to aided and unaided brand
recall as it can help bring down marketing costs significantly while increasing the
management s understanding of the business (Holden, 1993). Aided recall looks at
what thoughts/feelings the customer associates with the brand while unaided recall
looks at what brands of a specific product category the customer can think of without
any prompts. The former helps marketing professionals to focus on building brand
awareness to attract new customers whereas the latter focuses on improving the brand
image among existing customers. Simply put, the more people are aware of the brand
13. Analysis Of David Horseys s Todays Economic Indicator
For my Rhetorical Analysis I chose David Horseys political cartoon Todays
Economic Indicator published by the Seattle Post Intelligencer on June 4, 2014.
Horseys cartoon is controversial yet on point at the same time and that s one of
the main reasons why I chose it. If a picture speaks a thousand words than a
political cartoon speaks a million words because this topic can go on forever.
Horseys cartoon depicts the engagement of two girls at a fast food restaurant called
Fatso Burger . The girl working at Fatso burger recognizes that the customer she is
about to serve is an old friend from college. As the girls engage in some conversation
you find out that the last time they met was in high school. You also find out that the
customer just got her degree so we can assume that they last saw each other 4 years
ago. While the worker complains about her loser job and boasts about the
customers new college degree she asks if she can give the customer free fries with
her burger. Shockingly, in the last box of the cartoon, you see a sign saying Now
Hiring and the customer says, Actually, I m here for a job interview . Horseys
political cartoon strikes a low blow into one of the most controversial issues of the
21st century; is going to college worth the time and the money? As a freshman at
Florida International University, Horseys political cartoon caught my eye because it
is relatable. Graduating High School I knew a lot of people who thought college was
not worth the
14. Christmas Eve
Christmas is magical in the eyes of a child. At least, that s how it was for me.
Every year, as the month of December rolled around, the lights were strung and the
trees were set up, I sent my letter out with a hopeful heart that Santa would make an
appearance on my doorstep on Christmas Eve. The December of 2008 was the year
that I wished for an electric scooter. I mailed my wish list to Santa, knowing he
would prevail and deliver that Razor electric scooter with a hand brake and fat
tires. Christmas morning was perfect! Santa had brought me a plum colored, shiny,
and fully charged electric scooter and my younger sister, Olivia, a hot pink one.
They were perched on their small silver kickstands in front of our eight foot tree
that was weighed down with years worth of homemade and souvenir ornaments.
The scooters were free of a box or wrapping, just how Santa always brought the
gifts. As soon as the all of the presents were ripped open and breakfast eaten, I
pranced outside to test out my new ride. It was a crisp, wintry morning with gray
skies. I cruised back and forth on the scooter in front of my house for hours,
accelerating on the uphills and coasting on the downhills with the cold wind
blowing through my tangled hair and my nose turning pink from the low
temperatures. It was my absolute favorite present. Fast forward a few days, the
Saturday following Christmas, and I was hiking up the red clay hill that began to
incline as soon as you stepped off of our back
15. Individuality In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
One similarity that subsists between humans and trees is that of their sense of
individuality. In diverse ways, each human and tree display their unique sense of
character. No two trees display the same characteristics, just as no two humans ever
display the same personality. Both humans and trees are a source of their roots.
However, the branch of similarity between humans and trees doesn t only extend
between their source of individuality. Throughout the story The Giving Tree, written
by Shel Silverstein, both a humanand a tree display similarity as they neglect the
Categorical Imperative devised by Immanuel Kant.
Within Kant s Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, the Categorical Imperative
states that rational beings should Act

Critique Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman, known for bringing flamboyance and
talent into pianistic performances, performed a recital dubbed Chopin Schubert. In
this 1987 recording, Krystian Zimerman performs a couple of songs by Chopin
and Schubert. The recording lasted one hour and forty one minutes where
Krystian Zimerman demonstrated his superb technique and refined sensibility to
varies uses. The track list begins with Scherzo No.2 in B flat minor, Op.31, then
Nocturne in F sharp major, Op.15, followed by Ballade No.1 in G minor, Op.23.
Frederick Chopin composed all these tracks, and each composition took different
duration with the first track Scherzo No.2 in B flat minor, Op.31, taking the
longest time, around ten minutes. Other tracks also composed by Frederick
Chopin captured in the recording include Ballade No.2 in F, Op.38 6, Ballade No.3
in A flat, Op.47, Ballade No.4 in F minor, Op.52, Fantaisie in F minor, Op.49 and

This opposition proves only the beginning of ensuing warwhich will intensify until

brewing embers of this war right from its first spark. Milton expounds upon the fall
of Satan with the intent of giving his readers a taste of the tension which this war

s fall from his rank of esteem transformed him into the antithesis of evil. As a fallen

against anything that reflects the pure character of God. Since Satan s character
opposes the character of God, Milton coined the name, Apostate Angel, to denote
his enmity against God (1.125). In every aspect of his mindset, actions, and
motives, Satan acts in opposition to the manner that God acts. Essentially, the

Satan s being desires to do good but only evil. Satan s new fallen character gives

22. Joseph Lister s Contributions to Medical Science Essay
Imagine for one moment that you are living in the 1800 s and are in need of
medical help. During this time surgeons were known for the treating of wounds,
amputations, and treatment of broken bone. Picture yourself lying on a dirty cot,
or soiled table waiting for the surgeon to come in. When he finally enters he is
wearing a bloody, dirty apron and informs you that the only option is to remove
your limb. He calls in for help in holding you down and picks up a stained saw and
prepares to remove your leg. Your mind flashes back to the numerous people who
came before you and died shortly after having this procedure done. Will you die
during the operation or like so many others survive only to succumb to fever and
gangrene and die after?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during his time in Edinburg that he began to see how keeping the work area
clean helped in keeping down infection although he could not fully explain why this
was the case. In the beginning it was believed that infections were caused by a
chemical reaction when air touched the wounds. After further studying the work of
Louis Pasteur and performing experiments of his own; he discovered that bacteria
was introduced into a wound when the skin was broken and when the patient spent
extended time in the hospital following surgery. Lister spent the next five years
conducting his own research on the matter. He heard about the use of Carbolic
acid in the sewage systems to kill odor and got the idea to try it on a surgery. He
first tried it on an eleven year old boy suffering from a compound fracture of his
leg. Lister applied the carbolic acid to the wound and then covered it in lint soaked
in the acid as well. When he checked on the wound a few days after surgery there
was no sign of swelling or foul odor. Lister redressed the wound this time using a
diluted form of the carbolic acid and six weeks later the little boy walked out of the
hospital suffering no ill effects. Following the success of this surgery Lister went on
to perform several other surgeries that were deemed too risky due to the threat of
infection. He even performed surgery on a patient with a fractured knee cap and also

23. Hitler s Impact On The World War II
In the year 1940, many Germans stood at a square, saluting and chanting Hitler s
name. World War II has begun and many Germans hope for improvements in the
economy. Their leader is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany in World
War II, was a powerful speaker who caused over 5 million deaths in concentration
camps. Though Hitler s impact can be felt in modern times, the roots of his atrocious
behavior began at childhood more specifically high school.
Years before Adolf Hitlerwas born, Hitler s great grandfather, Johann Georg Hiedler,
was a wandering miller. Before his second marriage he had an illegitimate son named
Alois Hitler s father. Since Alois was illegitimate, he kept his mother s last name,

together at a farm Alois bought. Adolf Hitler went to a small village school he was
a very smart student and had exceptional grades. However, when he was put in a
bigger urban secondary school, he started to lose interest and gave up to aimless
reading and arts he dreamed of being an artist.
As a child Hitler would often disagree with his father. His father, Alois Hitler,
wanted him to enter civil service. In Linz high school, Adolf thought if he failed
his father would let him pursue his dreams of becoming an artist. Adolf put his
plan into motion, he was failing; his grades were so bad he had to transfer to a state
high school. In Linz high school, though, only his history teacher impressed him. Dr.
Leopold Poetsch, Many historians believe that Hitler s influence began in high
school. They believed that Dr. Leopold Poetsch created it. Years later, when Leopold
retired Hitler came to visit him. When Alois died, Hitler persuaded his mother to let
him enter Vienna Academy of Arts. He took the entrance exam and failed to be
accepted. (Shirer)
Looking back, Hitler remembers his teachers as mentally insane people:
When I recall my teachers at school, I realized that half of them were abnormal. . . .
We pupils of old Austria were bought up to respect old people and women. But on
our professors we had no mercy; they were our natural enemies. The majority of

I have learned this value from a young age as I was always taught to show respect
to others to gain respect back, such as talking politely to my teachers at school.
This value I hold relates to my workplaces value; to create a positive ethos whereby
everyone in our school community is valued. The school implements this by
making sure all children are able to learn, grow and develop to their best of their
ability regardless of any abilities of the child which may inhibit learning; such as a
learning disability, all the children are treated with the same amount of respect and
dignity, such as all the children s views are taken into account. Both these values
fall under the National Care Standard of dignity which states; be treated with
dignity and respect at all times and enjoy full range of social relationships . This
means that all individuals regardless of any protected characteristics must be
treated with the same respect and dignity as others in society; an example can be

In the beginning of the 20th century, many changes where to take place that would
ultimately determine the alliances commonly known as the Triple Alliance and
Triple Entente during World War I. In 1904, the Russo Japanese War began. This
war ended with a defeat for Russia, which was humiliating, but did encourage the
Russian Empire to focus on the Balkans, an area that would play more dominate
roles in World War I
( 10 Events that Led to War One 1). Their newfound interest in
this area forced them to reassert themselves later, during the Bosnia Annexation

extremely militaristic power (Tonge 1). The German s power created a naval rivalry

Communication
Pictographs
Moreover, the use of pictographs can improve cross cultural communication.
Pictograms is a visual language aim to establish the most important type of
communication using visual language to transcending language barriers. For
instance, it was stated, Languages allow us to communicate with each other in a
relatively effortless way because they rely on many types of conventions (e.g.,
morphological, syntactic, semantic, phonetic) (Nakamura Zeng Treitler, 2012, p.
535). It is a language that enables the essential meaning to be understood visually at a
glance, irrespective of differences of cultural or language.
In additional, pictograms is use in the Medical Health industry to improve the
communication with people who speak different languages. To emphasize, it was
stated, As a universal language to communicate with people speaking different
languages, pictographs can be an efficient tool to improve healthcare education for
this underserved population (Choi, 2011). Pictograph is a powerful tool to use for
cross cultural communication.
Furthermore, the ability to have and create pictograph will enhance cross cultural
communication. For instance, as it was stated, There is a good chance that
pictographs created using a combination of representation strategies may yield higher
recognition rates. (Choi, 2011) The combination of pictographs and communication
will improve the language barriers in cross cultural communication.

Among the many things that Americans enjoy, basketball has always been an
integral part of our culture. I picked up the game when I was in the first grade and
still find myself playing it whenever I get the chance. Nowadays, there seems to be
a lack of parks and such for people to go to and have some fun with others.
Streetball has made its own culture and kids grow up idolizing older players that are

firm belief that outdoor basketballcourts are an essential part of communities and
need to be given more attention because they are great places for kids to go and play

Most players began playing basketball as compared to other sports because it was
easily accessible and relatively cheap with basically everything provided when
going to a local court. I was not surprised to find that one of my favorite basketball
players of all time was a streetballer. He was a troublemaker, and was previously
sentenced to serve fifteen years in prison but managed to turn himself around with
the game of basketball. Allen Iverson spent his days at the park working on his
lethal crossover that would one day even make Michael Jordan look silly. Those
days spent at the court led him to a full scholarship to attend Georgetown, in which
he later entered the NBA Draft after his sophomore year, and ended up being
selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only did Allen Iverson change
the NBA because of streetball. There is also Stephon Marbury, Jason White
Chocolate Williams, and Jamal Crawford (Walter). They all are scrappy and flashy
players which helped bring some toughness and excitement back to the NBA. If it
were not for the parks out there allowing these players to pick up the game, they
may have went a different way in life and been stuck in their slums. A twenty dollar
basketball and a place for them to go and use it got them to the point where they are
making a career out of it. Given those previous players making a name for themselves

Both the novels 1984 and The Handmaids Tale provide warnings of how each
author sees certain problems in society leading to dystopian states. Dystopian
genres exist in both novels, but arise for different reasons. Resulting from Atwood s
concerns about political groups and aspects of feminism; The Handmaids Tale
illustrates how declining birth rates could lead to a state where women are forced
into bearing children. In contrast, 1984 depicts a terror state where poverty is rife
and tyrannical leaders force citizens to live by their rules. Although both novels share
such themes as surveillance, deprivation and loss of identity, they describe two very
different dystopian worlds, often by using identical literary techniques but also...

There is no destruction of antonyms, comparatives or superlatives in The Handmaid s
Tale , as Gilead powers are not eradicating aspects of language, merely preventing
people from speaking them, by enforced use of religious discourse. Atwood does,
however, use prefixes to describe certain things, indicating state control. Words such
as unwomen and unbaby denote failure. If a handmaid s child is branded, unbaby , it
shows failure to produce healthy offspring. Handmaids wish to produce healthy
children, preventing transportation to the colonies. These prefixes therefore scare
them into conforming, and trying to produce children as the authorities wish.
In both 1984 and The Handmaid s Tale , connotations are used to re define the states
powers. Big Brother and Aunts suggest protective figures which protect society;
however connotations have been re defined, neither figure having the security of the
people in mind. These names, however, result in people believing themselves safe
under their rulers, having been manipulated in many ways to produce this
misconception.
We are able to see that language in both the texts maintain the dystopian societies.
However as well as authoritarian manipulation of language, the dystopian genre is

33. An Internship Is A Professional Program
Introduction In the recent years employers are more interested in hiring new
workers with a handful of experience in their field rather than their qualifications.
An internship is a professional program that provides practical experiences to
students in which they learn and can reflect back on for their future careers.
Internships are increasingly becoming more evident in the work force as it helps
give employers an opportunity to find good quality employees and in return provides
good experience for the intern. Participating in internships, no matter paid or unpaid,
is believed to strengthen the probability of acquiring a top notch career in the
competitive market. However, the difference between paid and unpaid interns can
dramatically change that window of opportunity for those seeking to engage in it. As
unemployment rates continue to rise, the competition for internshipincreases. A large
part of the demand market includes newly graduated students who just finished a high
educational degree in hopes to outshine their peers who are pursuing the same job. A
significant amount of these young people are willingly taking on unpaid internships
with the risk of them being unable to sustain their financial need. This ultimately
hinders them from climbing up the social ladder (DiMaria, 2013). In addition to this
problem, although there are a few unpaid internships out there that unprejudiced and

35. The Importance of Addressing Grief
There are many types of grief and many theories that are used when assessing a
person s situation. There are many forms of grief and they may be experienced by
different groups of people. At times it can difficult to figure out what type of grief a
person is experiencing and what help they may need. In order to find this information
there are many theories that are used. Griefis complicated and no one experiences it
the same way but there are some common aspects that are shared by those who
grieve. Some of the types of grief are: normal grief, anticipatory grief and
disenfranchised grief. Normal grief is when people move from loss to acptance of
the loss. Normal grief also has little impact on the person s life in the long term
because many of the symptoms will lesson over time. This would be what a large
part of the population go through when they experience loss, but there are other
types of grief that have long lasting effects. A form of grief that is felt before the
loss is anticipatory grief. This type of grief is experience by the family of someone
who is dying, they have time to process the idea that a family member is dying and
to accomplish any tasks that need to be addressed. At times even when families
know that people are dying they may not have the chance to grieve like they need to
because of society. For those do not follow what is considered normal, greieving can
sometimes be difficult. The type of grief that deals with this aspect is disenfranchised

slight hesitation. Frodo offered Galadriel the ring and she grew into a horrible
creature towering over Frodo, but fought the ring s strong temptation, and finally
decreasing back to her normal self and declined the powerful ring. Both Tom and
Galadriel, in The Lord of the Ring, portray Tolkien s respect for nature and strong
spirituality, because they are powerful creatures, yet able to live a balanced life. Tom
Bombadilwas the master of the forest he lived in, and Frodo s magic ring had no
effect on him. Lady Galadriel was an Elf ruler and was able to withstand the
temptation of the magic ring. The magic ring symbolizes the corruption and power,
leading to an unsustainable world. For example, society has an unsustainable demand
for oil. Oil pipelines, such as the Keystone, have lessened the beauty of nature where
they have been built. Companies believe they have the right to construct pipelines
across the US at the expense of the environment. Humans must remember to value the
beauty of nature.
Tom Bombadil lived in the Old Forest, taking care of the nature, and singing
ridiculously silly songs. Tom, who lived with his wife Goldberry, provided a place
for Frodo, Sam, Marry, and Pippen to stay for the night. During the evening, Frodo
asked Goldberry, who Tom was. She replied that Tom was the master of the forest, the

The main point that really stuck out to me during the reading of Two assumptions
one ideal was to look beneath the surface of the racial iceberg. Some underlying
factors that affect racial attitudes are often below the level of awareness. An example
of an underlying issue that surrounds the racial iceberg is how racism and
inequalities are evident in the U.S. public schoolsystems. Institutions such as schools
make up our everyday realities about our assumptions on race and ethnicity. Students
of color (i.e. African American, Hispanic, and Native American) experience
disparities in head start programs, collegereadiness, disciplinary actions. Currently, in

Political campaigning is now the full fledged live version of chess, with pawns,
queens and kings, but is all this parading and strategizing actually important? What
is even the purpose behind political campaigns; is it to inform the public about a
candidate or through clever means to win an election at all costs? The truth of the
matter is that campaigns do actually serve an important purpose in the political
world of America. Its purpose is to help inform voters about candidates and to
improve the number of voters at the polling place. In order for these goals to be
achieved there needs to be a clear platform upon which the campaign is built. In the
book The Gamble, John Sides and Lynn Vavreck write that a successful campaign
takes advantage of the fundamentals, national conditions that set the stage for the
campaign, (2). These fundamentals are conditions that the candidate has no control
over, like the economy, their opponent, obstacles or opportunities, and how the
candidate reacts to them affect their ability to be elected (Sides and Vavreck 2). It is
upon these fundamentals that a campaign is built. They inform political stances and
future decisions of the campaign, which makes them an important foundation.
Though these fundamentals are key to the survival of a campaign, equally if not
more so, as Professor David Parker has stated, unless the candidate has name
recognition the campaign is a lost cause (Parker, 2016). A successful candidate that

43. 1972 Munich Olympics Essay
Introduction: The modern world is constantly reaching for new information;
something to distract people from their own dull lives. Society will believe nearly
anything that is presented in a news article, no matter how absurd. Breaking news
seems to be shared constantly and is readily available at any given moment.
Nevertheless, this rapid swarm of new stories and facts begs the question how
reliable are these news outlets that are providing coverage of events around the
world? Do news sources invest time and work into their reports, or do they release
reports teeming with bias and unproven facts solely for money and satisfactory
ratings? The massacre at the 1972 MunichOlympics shocked the world and its

Treatment by Media Source 1: The New York Times
Origination of issue: Binder, David. A 23 Hour Drama . The New York Times , 6
Sept. 1972.: The headline stands out from the rest of the article, for it provokes
sensitivity in the readers. Bias by emphasis is exemplified as the writer continually
includes details about the evil motives of the Arabs, showing the left leaning value of
community based on ethics. Rather than simply stating Palestinian involvement, the
article specifically mentions the invasion of the Olympic Village by the Arabs ,
targeting the Arabs. The usage of phrases like armed with automatic rifles , broke
into , and seized once again point out the nefariousness of the Arabs. The repetition of
German involvement in the negotiations with the Arabs emphasizes that society is a
support system, and begins to examine the impact on society. As is typical of left
leaning reports, the New York Times next delves into how the attack interfered with
society by reporting that the bloodbath...ended at 1 A.M...after long hours of
negotiation between German and Arabs at the Israeli quarters in the Olympic Village

44. The Corps Of Discovery And The Native Americans
On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson, with the approval of congress,
created the Corps of Discovery. Their mission was to map the newly acquired
western lands of the Louisianna Purchase, almost 1803 828,000 square miles of
unexplored territory, as well as find a route to the Pacific Ocean. This expedition was
led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. During their adventure, the group
encountered many hostile Native American groups, and if not for Sacagawea, these
tribes would have surely jeopardized their operation. Due to her role as a helpful
guide, Sacagawea was crucial in the encounter between the Corps of Discovery and
the Native Americans because she negotiated and traded between the groups,
functioned as a peace token, and served as an interpreter. Sacagawea was born in
1788 in Lemhi County, Idaho and was part of the Shoshonetribe for which her father
was the chief. Her childhood was ruined when her tribe was attacked by the
Hidatsa tribe when she was 11 years old. She was captured as a slave and taken to
what is not North Dakota. She spent a miserable few years with the hostile tribe
before being sold to a French Canadian trapper and fur trader named Toussaint
Charbonneau. They lived among the Hidatsa and Mandan Indians in North Dakota.
She was still a young teenager when he forced her to marry him and she became his
second wife. One day, the Corps of Discovery were traveling through the Hidasta
Mandan village when they experienced inclement weather.
45. Designing A New Branch Leader
After reading Chapter 9 and looking back on my time spent working two summers
at a grain elevator which also had its own agronomy department (using science and
technology to help produce better crop yields), it became noticeably clearer that the
company I was working for was making arrangements to hire a new branch leader.
The elevator that I worked for was one of two branches for the larger company. The
company has three branch managers along with a person in charge of overseeing the
entire operation. My first summer the branch that I was working for hired a recent
college graduate to aid the current branch manager with the day to day operations of
the company. He was asked to have his hand in everything that took place within our
branch of the company. Working three months that summer, I got to see the
development procedures that they were putting him through. Although it did not
apply to me, being a coach, I paid attention to the things they were having him,
potentially hearing or seeing something that could benefit me in my profession. With
him starting just a week after I had started, it allowed me to essentially everything
they had designed for him thorough those first three months. Throughout the first
month and a half, he was sitting near the head of the table for company meetings,
sitting in on meetings with customers, and doing ride alongs to check fields and
perform soil samples. Everything that a branch manager would do, he was doing.
That whole summer, he was
46. Loan Portfolio Management
Loan Portfolio Management
Introduction
Background:
L ending is the principal business activity for most commercial banks. The loan
portfolio is typically the largest asset and the predominate source of revenue. As
such, it is one of the greatest sources of risk to a bank s safety and soundness.
Whether due to lax credit standards, poor portfolio risk management, or weakness in
the economy, loan portfolio problems have historically been the major cause of bank
losses and failures.
Effective management of the loan portfolio and the credit function is fundamental to
a bank s safety and soundness. Loan portfolio management (LPM) is the process by
which risks that are inherent in the credit process are managed and controlled. ...

An unregulated banking financial institution might be fraud with unmanageable risks
for the purpose of maximizing its potential return. In such a situation, the banking
financial institutions might find itself in a serious financial distress instead of
improving its financial health. Consequently, not only the depositors but also the
shareholders will be deprived of getting back their money from the bank. The
deterioration of loan quality also affects the intermediative efficiency of the financial
institutions and thus the economic growth process of the country. This the reason for
which the banking financial institutions are being regulated in all countries. The
banking financial institutions are also the most regulated among all types of financial
institutions in all countries, because of their substantial role in payment mechanism
(in addition to protect the loan portfolio from decaying).
Portfolio management is crucial for commercial banks, be it in developed or
developing countries. Mere accumulation of deposits gives rise to entries both in
liabilities and assets sides of the balance sheets. So, portfolio management involves
in both liability and assets of commercial banks. If deposits of a bank grow at a
steady rate and if loan demands can be met from deposit growth, the bank will have
no problem of liquidity. In real life, deposits do not grow steadily all the time, nor
does loan demand grow in keeping with growth in deposits.

Knowledge is power, therefore it is always a good thing for adults to be involved in
continued education. The level does not really matter, be it in pursuant of certificate,
bachelor or doctorate degree, but the ability to be involved in the process and going
through the rigors of such endeavor, irrespective of age, family or profession. The
joy of continuous education for an adult learner, is the legacy they leave behind for
their grandchildren. It demonstrates that, there is no age limit to acquiring more

Online education is especially valuable to those students who juggle demanding
work, familial and social schedules that necessitate access to learning in special
forms. The idea of online training becomes valuable to the business world as well
as trainers also face situations with adult learners who may experience similar
constraints especially those of time and geographical distance. (Bartley Golek,
2004). Traditional system of learning, or face to face is still the preferred way of
learning amongst the younger generation, especially high school graduates. Some
of the reasons include; family recommendation, or alma mater of a family member,
or parents, also the ability to interact with peers face to face, enjoying the hustle
and bustle of college activities, dorm and general campus social life. The cost of
attending face to face college is still very high compared to the cost of attending
distance learning schools, under normal circumstances, transportation cost, books
and other course materials cost are considered. Furthermore, time is wasted going
back and forth to school, so these are the main difference adults prefer online
schools to face to face. It has been noted that despite the increase in the number of
adults enrolling into colleges to study online, a reasonable number of adults do not
complete, or drop out from online schools. Family pressure is one
48. Ethics of Deception in Advertising
Ethics of deception in advertising: Why is deceptive advertising morally
objectionable? 1. Introduction In the world of today, the role of marketing within the
business community has increased exponentially. Nowadays consumers are presented
with countless purchase opportunities, numerous providers and various points of
value. In order to attract and retain their buyers, economic agents devise and
implement a wide array of strategic efforts, including the creation of strong and
aggressive marketing campaigns. Marketing today is virtually present in all aspects
of life and it addresses virtually anybody, from young children to senior consumers,
and selling anything from toys and diapers to medicine. And in ensuring an increase
in the demand for the advertised product, often times marketers use deception in their
campaigns. The specialized literature on the aspect of deception in advertising is
rather scarce and its primary shortage is that of not having coined a universally
accepted definition of deceptive advertising. Additionally, another problem is raised
by the fact that deceptive advertising is often accepted as unethical, yet evidence
lacks in this sense. In such a context then, the current project sets out to establish a
more thorough understanding of the concept of deceptive advertising and to assess
its ethical dimension. 2. Deceptive advertising defined As it has been mentioned
throughout the previous section, the specialized literature has not yet
