2. Before reading
• Determine what you would like to read.
• Would you like to read for enjoyment?
• Would you like to discover how to make something?
• Would you like to be informed with true facts?

• Skim through the text
• Look at the cover and
the pictures
• Predict what you think
the text will be about.

4. Before Reading
Activate prior knowledge. Think
about what you already know !
• Brainstorm – When reading the title
what thoughts come to mind?
• K-W-L charts can show K- what you
know, W- what you want to know, and
leaves room for L- what you learn.
• Group discussion allows you to share
your own experiences and knowledge

5. During Reading:
• Use your background knowledge(what you
already know ) to connect with the text .
• Visualize the text- Imagine what you are
reading…What does it look like?
*Teachers can help students discover through
think-alouds. During a think-aloud the teacher will
state questions aloud to the class for an reflective
answer.
