2. STOCK CATEGORIES
 This feature of Tally offers a parallel classification of ‘Stock
Items’. If stock items are classified into stock groups, say based on their
brand, they can again be classified into stock categories, say based on their
supplier.
 The advantage of categorizing stock items is that, Tally allows the
user to classify items based on their functionality across different stock
groups. This enables the user to obtain reports on stock items based on
alternatives or substitutes of a stock item. Sub-categories can be created
under stock categories to any depth.
Activation of Stock Categories
 From Gateway of Tally  Use the F11 Features key to bring up the
Company Features sub-menu  Select Inventory Features  and set the
option Maintain Stock Categories ? under Storage & Classification to Yes and
accept the screen.

3.  Stock categories can be created either in the Single Creation mode or in the
multiple creation mode.
 From Gateway of Tally  select Inventory Info.  Select Stock Categories 
and Select Create under ‘Single Stock Category’ or ‘Multiple Stock Category’. The Stock
Category Creation screen appears.
1. Name
In the Name field, enter the name of the stock category. The user can give stock
category names both in English and in Tamil.
2. Alias
In the Alias field, enter the other name which the user would like to assign to this stock
category.
3. Under
In the Under field, the user can select the stock category under which the current
category is to be created, from the List of Categories pop-up menu. If a stock category is created
for the first time, it can be classified as Primary only.
