Viral Genetic Variation Lab Analysis
Title: Viral Genetic Variation Accounts for a Third of Variability in 1 Set Point Viral Load
Introduction: The extent to the pathogenesis of the human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1), or HIV
, has been studied for years. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong
predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of the
disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL). Depending
on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can strongly predict the
severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes.
The severity of SPVL is strongly associated with the genotype of the virus and its heritability ... Show

Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the
study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the
heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion
model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model.
Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is a
strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging from
20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is explained
by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus kills), the
heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the virus s
genotype.
In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different
studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and calculation
error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results of the study,
and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV heritability is not a
direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it was confirmed that
there is a significant variability in viral load of an

My First Day Of Class
First Day of Class
In the words of Harry Wong, The first day of class is the most important day of the school year . Since
this day is so important I will have had to prepare a few things before the day actually starts. I will
have assigned seats in my classroom before the day starts, and I will have written my bell work
activity for the class before they arrive. Finally, I will have all the materials I need for that day within
reach, so I am prepared for transitions.
Class length 8:40 9:34
Pre class time 8:15 8:40
I will stand outside my classroom looking for my students.
When I see my students I will great them, introduce myself as Mr. Zaruba, their 8th grade science
teacher, and tell them to find their seat and read the board.
Greeting the children at the door starts them off with a comfortable first day, and allows me to set the
expectation of getting to work right away.
Beginning activity 8:40 8:55
Bell work will be listed on the board for them to complete.
The bell work for the first day will be a questionnaire for the students to fill out. The activity will
provide me with crucial information about my students interests and goals.
I will collect the bell work after 7 minutes and begin to go over my expectations in the class.
My expectations will be presented in a fun music themed PowerPoint that will not take me longer than
8 minutes max.
At the end of the PowerPoint, I will have my students repeat the expectations back to me.
Finally I

The Theory Of Social Darwinism
The presidential elections are upon us once again, debate has been a common place to hear plans and
deduce ideologies of various candidates. Income inequalities has been one hot topic and address by
almost all the candidates. Some believe a higher tax rate on the rich is the solution whiles others
believe it will do more harm to the society good. I ask myself, should Mr. Herbert Spencer, Minister
Graham Sumner, and Andrew Carnegie come back to life, what will be their response? The
aforementioned are the considered the fathers of Social Darwinism. In this essay I will discuss and
evaluate the theory of Social Darwinism.

a Social Darwinian and it will also form the basis for most of my discussion and evaluation.
Adam Smith s classical economies theories being one of the major ingredients in the Social Darwinian
theory, meant they were strong proponents of Hands off Laissez faire. They advocated restricted
government intervention and or meddling with the economy, they believed in individual self interest

practice. The state or society they believe in should be built on contract . Contract they

American And Samoan Culture Differences
Samoan versus Tongans has its own visually about their differences and similarities. They each have
commons about their culture, language, and personality. However, they might have similarities in each
component s. They could be conflicts to each other but almost the same. When researching about the
differences and similarities of these two islands, they are mostly the same especially when you hear
both islanders talk and how they apply appearance in public. The Samoans has its own differences and
similarities to the Tongans according to the culture, language, and personality. First of all, the
Samoans culture is a traditional of Samoan that is a communal way of life based on Fa a Samoa, the
single socio political values. Most activities are done together as one family, one heart, and one soul.
Another thing about the Samoan culture is that they have faith, they make their own rhythm in music,
and they have their own way of dancing. When they dance they use every parts of their body. Also the
Samoans have their own way of making food by their own taste. But in the Tongans culture, they are

The Controversy Over Genetically Modified Organisms
A genetically modified organism, GMO, has been altered by genetic engineering techniques. GMOs
are widely used by scientists in many different ways to include the production of food and in

the result of a trivial use for a powerful technology. 7 The Commission s belief that the fish should not
have been created led to a law making the GloFish illegal. Originally GloFish were developed by
scientists in Singapore to be living pollution sensors as they would only glow when in the presence of
pollutants.7 The Commission s ban on GloFish highlights the controversy over genetically modified
organisms and how public opinion can be swayed by the beliefs of others whether those beliefs are
based on science or not. This paper will focus first on what genetic modification means and then will
look at the pros and cons of genetically modified foods. Finally, the author s opinion of the issue of
GMO food will conclude the paper. Wikipedia defines genetic modification as the mutation, insertion
or deletion of genes. Consider that for over 14,000 years, humans have been using the practice of

Paul s purpose in writing this book is to teach against the false teaching s being taught there.
The main theme of the book is that Jesus Christ is God and the only true way to heaven.
Subject of Paragraph:
Sacrificial Service for Christ
Scriptural Context:
Immediate: The Passage before this one deals with the Supremacy of Christ. It tells that Christ is God
and how he reconciled us to him. The passage after this one deals with living in him. It tells of the
fullness that can be found in him. Paul also writes of our forgiveness and how he was triumphant over

Theme:
Paul s theme is to tell about his labors for the Gospel and encourage them in their faith.
Original Meaning:
The meaning of the passage to Paul is to strengthen his brothers in the faith. Paul wrote this to show
them that things will not always be perfect and that some times they will face trials but with Jesus all
things are possible. Paul also encourages himself through the encouragement of the church of Colosse.
I think that when Paul writes to the church s and tell them what he thinks, encourages them , prays for
them, or even just telling them what he face for the gospel, that it gives him a sense of
accomplishment or even a sense of why he is doing what he is doing.
I think the meaning of this passage to the Church of Colosse is to be reminded of who Jesus is and
what he went through for them. They needed to be reminded of Christ s Deity and that there a people
who care for them and like Paul are willing to go through extreme percussion for

Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1-13
This week s Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1 12, is about a prophecy that was written approximately 700 to
800 years before Jesus even came to this earth. The scripture speaks of God s servant, which is Jesus
who would be just a plain and ordinary servant with no dignity or beauty to make us desire him or
draw us to him. He was despised, rejected and he faced much pain and suffering. No one would even
look at Jesus in the face; he was ignored and was treated like he was nothing. He was a man of great
sorrows. Jesus would receive the wounds and suffering that should have been ours, he endured the
punishment, so that people can have peace. Isaiah described the suffering servant in detail such as, He
is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Surely he has borne our
griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God and ... Show more

The ancient Christian rejected Christ because they thought he was just a man who was trying to be a
God, so they cursed Jesus. Modern Christian s today accepts Christ as our Savior but still wants to live
a watered down Christian life by being only lukewarm such as, living in sin before marriage, attending
church when it is convenience and going out to the bars. Are we truly living the Christian life that God
intended? Or are we still rejecting Jesus Christ?
Also, both the modern and ancient Christian has problems totally understanding the true suffering that
Christ went through for us. The ancient Christian was very uncompassionate they cursed him, ignored
him and treated him like a nothing. His own peers even had him crucified to death. However, is today
s Christian any better? We still continue to choose to ignore him by not attending church, continuing
to carrying on with sinful, wicked ways, and blasphemy by using our Lord God s name in vain. The

John F. Kennedy Gave the Order for the Bay of Pigs Invasion
When John F. Kennedy, President of the United States of America, gave the orders to invade Cuba and
overthrow Castro, America was expecting a victory. The American population expected Cuba to be
destroyed. They thought Cuba could not stand up to the United States. What they didn t expect was
that Cuba would put up a fight. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a deciding factor in the Cold War that
gave Cuba and the Soviet Union strength, and decreased morale and confidence in the Americans. The
Bay of Pigs invasion took place during the Cold War, which was not an actual war, but it consisted of
tensions between the USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic) and the United States and both their
allies. The Cold War began in the late 1940 s and ended in the early 1990 s. Harry S. Truman, Dwight
D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon were several important
United States Presidents during the time of the Cold War. Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, and
Leonid Brezhnev were several important Soviet leaders at the time. Ernesto Che Guevara and Fidel
Castro were also some of the more important leading figures in Cuba.
On the first of January in 1959, Fidel Castro took over the presidency of Cuba, using his guerilla army
( Bay of Pigs Invasion ) to overthrow General Fulgencio Batista, an American backed president ( Bay
of Pigs Invasion ). A dishonest and tyrannical dictator, Batista was disliked by his people, yet he was a
friend to the United States. He did

How Does Hamlet React To Uncertainty
In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet , he communicates that people react to certainty and
uncertainty in different ways. Not only can it affect the people around them, but it can affect their own
lives as well. For some people, the doubt could get to their head and cause an anxious response where
it could lead to a destructive path for themselves and can really hurt the people they care about most.
This is evident with Hamlet, when his father dies and his ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius was the one
who murdered him. Hamlet became uncertain if the ghost was actually his father s or an evil spirit.
However, this leads him to find out if Claudius really was the murderer which in turn lead to the death
of Polonius and eventually Laertes. While Claudius was fake praying, Hamlet was uncertain if he
should kill the new king right there as he thought he may go to hell for killing someone, which
eventually stopped him from going through with it. When he went to see his own mother, Polonius
was hiding. but when he calls out for help, Hamlet accidentally killed him. After the death of Polonius,
Laertes made his way back to get revenge for his father who he thought was killed by the king. During
this destructive path, Hamlet had sent a letter to England pretending to be the king to get his two best
friends killed after being betrayed by them. Finally, they get to the duel and with uncertainty again,
kills Laertes with a poisoned rapier before getting justice for Old Hamlet. He

Essay on The Labour Government as The Creator Of The...
The Labour Government as The Creator Of The Welfare State A Welfare State is a system in which the
government undertakes responsibility for the well being of its population, through unemployment
insurance, old age pensions and other social security measures. In order to achieve this the Labour
Government of 1945 51 introduced a number of reforms, including the National Insurance Act of 1946
and the Education Act. They also managed to achieve full employment, a target never met before in
Britain. However, they are not the only reason for the arrival of the Welfare State. The Liberal
Government of 1906 14 also deserves some credit, as well as the coalition government formed during
World War Two, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Labour took the idea they produced three pieces of legislation. These were the National
Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act of 1946, the National Insurance Act of 1946 and the National
Assistance Act of 1948. The National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act made injuries sustained in the
work place a public matter and set up an insurance scheme, where the worker, employer and the state
paid money weekly, providing insurance against injury. The National Insurance Act provided, as
suggested by Beveridge, a range of benefits to cover the person from birth until death. The National
Assistance Act provided further cover for those who were disabled, old aged, sick or of any other
special needs, acting as a safety net. The problem with this, however, was that benefits were not set
high enough and so National Assistance boards were flooded with applications for extra benefit,
creating great strain on the available funds. To deal with the problem of disease Labour provided the
National Health Service. This was completely thought up by them and was very successful. It
provided free medical assistance of any kind, including eye care, dental care, hearing facilities,
specialists and general practitioners. It is arguably the greatest single achievement in the story of the
Welfare State. Ignorance was dealt with through the

The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan
The director of the popular 1999 movie, The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan, used various film
devices to make the film a film of substance, suspense, and a sense of relief or discovery. The most
prevalent film devices used in this movie are: foreshadowing, symbolism, and motif. These three film
devices are used to assist the viewer of the film in fully understanding the plot and helping the
audience to understand the significance of some dialogue or a specific shot in the film. In The Sixth
Sense, a young boy, named Cole Sear (played by Haley Joel Osment), seems to have some sort of
mental or psychological illness, which is later thought to be a type of childhood schizophrenia. He
claims to see things and/or people that others cannot see; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foreshadowing is used to give hints about what will happen next in the plot, and it may give a sense of
relief or discovery. An example of foreshadowing in this movie is: in the beginning of the film,
Vincent breaks and enters into Dr. Crowe s home. As stated before. Vincent Grey was a former patient
or client of Crowe s. Vincent tells Dr. Crowe that he had failed him and after the whole dramatic
episode, Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. When Crowe gets shot, a viewer of the film could assume
the bullet went somewhere near his kidney, which could be fatal. However, at this point in the movie,
the audience wouldn t know that it killed him. This was a flashback. This is evidence that the plot was
constructed with in medias res in mind. Another example of foreshadowing is the fact that it seems as
if Cole is the only person who can talk to Dr. Crowe. This is especially significant because of the
opening scene which involved the shooting of Crowe. The audience, then, could start making
assumptions that the shot killed Crowe and the only reasons Cole is the only one who talks to him is
because he s dead. Throughout the movie, the audience should noticed that whenever Dr. Crowe talks
to people other than Cole, they don t

Analysis Of The Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold
It s fun to have fun, but you have to know how (Seuss 1957). Growing up, reading was one of my way
favorite ways of having fun. In preschool, I was that lonely kid in the back of the class who would
only talk to the teachers. My only friend was my older brother by two years, Peter. We were
inseparable. We did everything together. When he started reading, I tried to begin reading because I
was jealous that he was able to do something so different and mystifying. I did not actually understand
those jumbles of letters until my last year of preschool, but I still cherish the days my brother would
read me Dr. Seuss books.
My elementary school years consisted of a lot of reading. At my elementary school, we had the AR
wall. If you read books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It kept me constantly wondering the whole time. So many thoughts and questions were running
through my mind all at once. The Lovely Bones is about Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl, who
was violently murdered, watching her family struggle through, and eventually come to terms with, the
tragedy of her death. Sebold paints a picture of Susie s heaven by describing the surrounding buildings
as ...large, squat buildings spread out on dismally landscaped sandy lots, with overhangs and open
spaces to make them feel more modern (Sebold 16). Susie is telling her story from her afterlife, so
Sebold creates imagery to place the reader in Susie s perspective. Sebold also uses a variety of
figurative language. One example is My parents were like sleepwalkers saying yes to his questions,
nodding their heads to flowers or speakers (Sebold 98). Sebold uses this simile to describe how
lifeless Susie s parents feel as they are preparing for her funeral. The use of figurative language brings
more emotion to the reader because they can clearly imagine themselves in that exact scene. The main
theme in this book is that bad things will happen to the most innocent of us, but we will eventually
accept it and move on. At the end, this is evident in Susie saying, These were the lovely bones that had
grown around my absence: the connections sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but
often magnificent that happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold
the world without me in it (Sebold 320). Watching the connections between her loved ones grow on
earth without her allows her to accept her death and move on from the human world. She recognizes
that these new relationships, stemming from the tragedy of her death, represent that love and hope are
still alive in her family. This just goes to show that we all need people to lean on in our darkest days.

The Man After God s Own Heart
David was the last son of Jesse, ancestor to Jesus Christ and the second King of Israel. He was
considered as a Man after God s own heart . From a shepherd boy to a warrior, and from a warrior to a
King, he lived his life the best he could for the Lord. Through the battles he fought, and the wars he
was victorious in, he could ve ended up in pride considering how great and mighty a King he was. In
spite of his successes in battle, he was known to be a man of humility. David wasn t perfect; he sinned
just like everyone else. Though King David had a record of killing and adultery, he displayed a
repentant heart.
During the middle of his reign, King David committed adultery with Uriah s wife, Bathsheba. When
David found out about Bathsheba s pregnancy, he sent for the solider Uriah from the battle field with a
command to visit his wife in hopes of covering his tracks. David did this twice. Uriah didn t go the
first time because he was getting the opportunity to do something that his fellow soldiers were not. He
also didn t go after he ate and drank with the King.
Why didn t Uriah return to Bathsheba after the second command? Could it be because he never loved
Bathsheba to begin with? Or because he found out what happened? However, in spite of what Uriah s
reasons were, David saw that he could not instruct this man to obey his order; King or not.
After Uriah s decision, David made his decision that Uriah had to die. For this to come to pass, David
sent word to his captain,

Cain and Abel Essay
Cain and Abel
Cain and Abel are the first two sons of Adam and Eve. Cain is the eldest and Abel is the youngest.
Cain is described as the tiller of the ground whereas Abel is the keeper of sheep. Both men know that
God requires an offering, but the offering of Cain is quite different from that of Abel. Abel fears God,
and because of this he offers the best of his flock to the Lord. He kills the animal and makes a sacrifice
of blood. Abel understands that the shedding of innocent blood for the forgiveness of sin is acceptable.
He also knows that this action of his is representative of surrendering his heart to God. By contrast,
Cain brings what he has grown and gathered from the earth. In a way, a foolish man would think ...

God comes to Cain to confront him with the responsibility and Cain denies him. God comes not to
find the truth, but to allow Cain the opportunity to admit the truth. Never being able to admit his sin
and receive God s blessing, he receives a curse. His farming shall not flourish as it once did, and he
must wander and be a fugitive. God puts a mark on Cain as one of deserving of death yet one chosen
by God to live. One interpretation of the mark is that God believes death is too good for Cain and
punishes him by making him live with what he has to do. It can also be looked at as allowing Cain an
open door through which he can return whenever he is ready to face things more honestly. Cain is very
much like each and every one of us and it seems that we are fascinated with him. This could be
because there is good and evil in every one of us. Of Abel, we basically just hear that he was born and
murdered by his brother. Without a lot of explanation we are left with the nagging mystery of the
death of an innocent man. We deal with that continuing mystery each day as innocent people are
killed. In some ways you find out that murderers are more like you than different from you. Most of
them have snapped during a horrible time in their life and taken the life of a loved one. For them it
was not a logical move because none of them really were thinking logically at the time. Typically it
was an action coming out of being totally absorbed in the other person.

Jane Austen s Novel And True Classic Sense And Sensibility
There are many authors whose works are considered to be classics; perhaps the most influential is
Jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote six novels, that in today s world, we call classics. Her first novel and
true classic Sense and Sensibility, was published in 1811 at a time when the world was just starting to
write full length novels. Though Jane Austen only lived to be forty one, she contributed much too
modern literature; such as being one of the first major authors to make use of the three volume novel,
and to use chapters within the volumes (Sweeton). One of the many reasons as to why Jane Austen s
novels are considered classics is due to the fact that she wrote about real social and financial issues of
the day; however, financial and social issues are timeless, therefore they are still relevant in today s
world. As one follows along with the Dashwood sisters in Sense and Sensibility, we see how the title
of the story is very fitting; by providing one sister with sense and the other with sensibility, the story
has two different dynamics that create a timeless classic.
Born in 1775, Jane Austen grew up in a time when the dynamics of the world were constantly
changing. Jane Austen was born in Steventon a village of Hampshire England, to a large family that
consisted of seven other children (Jane Austen). Having an interest in writing since a young age, one
of her first works of writing was a novella titled Lady Susan, a story written in epistle form (which

Forest Succession
Each type of tree has a different set of specific requirements for growth, and not every type of tree can
grow at any point of time or place. However, as time passes, the conditions of that location might
change, allowing for a different tree species to grow. This change in conditions is known as forest
succession. Forest succession is generally triggered by a disturbance, which is defined in this case as
an event that causes mortality. Forest succession is a natural process, and a lot of the time the
disturbance is also. In the past, natural disturbances including lightning strikes and resulting fires,
winds, tornadoes, disease and insects, ice, and storms. However, as settlers began moving westward
through untouched areas, they started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are generally broken down into two groups: the early successional species and the late
successional species. The early successional trees generally grow fast and have high reproduction
rates, but don t live long and are shade intolerant. This group includes the birch family, black cherries,
and white pines. As time passes, the forest closes in, and trees begin to die. As the early successional
generation of trees die, the late successional group starts to grow and take over. This group has a slow
growth rate and long lifespan and includes the American beech, the oaks, and the hemlock. Because of
this succession, we develop two different types of forests, young growth and old growth forests.
Young growth forests consist of many of the early successional trees and have more trees overall, yet
still tend to have less basal area, or the area taken up by the bases of the trees. Old growth forests, on
the other hand, are formed almost completely by late successional trees with the bases of the trees
spaced further apart yet with more basal area. Here in this laboratory experiment, we investigated the
differences between an old growth (late successional) forest and a young (early successional) forest.
We measured the basal area of systematically selected trees,

The Psychology Of Conversion Therapy
What Conversation Therapy Actually Does
While reading Hard Rock Return to Prison by Etheridge Knight one may start to think of the effects of
correcting or convert someone s behavior to a more favorable one. This idea is present in today s
society and to better understand this believe and practice one will have to explore the psychology of
conversion therapy. Conversion Therapy or reparative therapy is a range of dangerous and discredited
practices that falsely claim to change a person s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression

Herpes
Herpes is one of the common of more than 30 different sexually transmitted diseases (STD s) in
America today. Herpes is an infection that is caused by one of two closely related viruses, herpes
simplex virus type 1 (HSV 1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV 2). Both of which are very easily
caught, have similar symptoms, and can occur on different parts of the body. Even though it is most
common to see the virus HSV 1 appear as oral herpes and to see the virus HSV 2 appear as genital
herpes.
Most often herpes is a relatively harmless disease that is rarely life threatening. The most common

Very severe outbreaks may have symptoms that include swollen and tender lymph glands in the groin,
throat, or under the arms, and even flu like feelings such as fever, chills, headache, and a general run
down feeling.
The spread of herpes may be attributed to a variety of activities ranging from touching and kissing to
more intimate activities such as vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse. The time when the virus is most
likely to be spread is when the sores, such as cold sores or fever blisters, are open and weeping, during
this time the virus may be spread from one partner to another or from one part of the body to another.
Although the chance of getting genital herpes from an infected partner whom has no symptoms are
only about 10 out of every hundred or 10 percent. It is unlikely, however, that contact with toilet seats,
moist towels or similar objects spread herpes. The most commonly infected areas are moist areas of
the mouth, anus, vulva, vagina, penis, or the eyes.
Even though herpes in many cases is easily spread between two individuals, it is definitely possible to
prevent the spreading of herpes to others. There are usually early warning signs before a breakout
occurs such as tingling, burning, and itching where sores were before. These warning signs may start a
few hours or even a day before the sores flare up. At first sight of any warning signs, all sexual contact

Metaphors In Poetry
M S Essay
Hope is the thing with Feather , by Emily Dickinson, and The Path not taken , by Robert Frost,
are poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how hope and
decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer difficult moments
that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it determines what path we
will go and determines our future.
Robert Frost created a poem about the journey of life. The diverging road in the yellow wood is used
to symbolize a person s life. It symbolizes the different paths that people will encounter in their lives
and suggest the different life people are going to have when choosing different paths. In the poem, ...

With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that delivers
an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best . The image
of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope is the necessary
inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s mind, with inspiration
and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without the word , the message it
delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it sings its songs in the chilliest land
and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest storm . It experiences all circumstances and
is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all the help hope provided, its help is also
unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15). While hope helps human to overcome suffering
in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme of the importance of making choices since the
choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is true that many regret not taking the other choice,
which is the road not taken in the poem, but humans will realize that the choice they choose
determines their identity. The narrator knows that his choice will make all the difference since the
destination each road leads to will be totally different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is
even harder to make a decision. The narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving
the road not taken for another day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. Ages and
ages hence , the narrator looks back and tells his decision with a sign and regrets his decision of taking
the road less traveled by , it is the road he took that has

History Of Kennesaw State University
The UA is the oldest public college in the state of Alabama. It opened in April of 1831 and students
began to enroll May of 1831. They first offered engineering, then later opened medical school. In
1860 the University of Alabama was officially established as a military school. Sadly a few years later
in 1867 UA was burned to the ground by Union Troops, but that did not stop the university because it
reopened again in 1872 and became a Law School. The one thing that makes me want to go to
Alabama more than anything is their football. Their first football team was created in 1892 and has
been the drive of that university ever since. When comparing these two colleges this is one of the
things that would win me over. Since UA is the oldest in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
University of Alabama has always been a dream school for me, but when breaking it down money
wise Kennesaw State is clearly the better option.
Figuring out how you are going to pay for college is the second most important thing and it makes a
decision easier. I am still in high school working a full time job at Belk. I give myself a budget for
every two weeks and put the rest of my money in savings. I look up scholarships daily and am
applying for as many as I can. $50 $10,000 scholarship is better than nothing and it keeps me out of
debt at the end and that is what matters. Unfortunately, I do not have a rich family and no one will be
handing me a lot of money for college, but that just means I need to work a little harder and there is
nothing wrong with that. I will also be taking out student loans to help and my parents will be doing as
much as they can. I ask myself questions like Do I need to go to school because their football team is
amazing or Do I need to focus on the long run and Is going to Kennesaw going to get me just as good
of job as Alabama and save me a little bit more money . So, even with all of these plans I know that I
am still going to have debt, but the real picture to look at is how much debt do I want to have when I
am already trying to find a job.

John Locke s Second Treatise On Government
John Locke s Second Treatise on Government presents a contrast of ideas comparing the law of nature
and the government. Locke begins to explain the meaning and purpose behind the law of nature.
Locke states that the law of nature teaches us that all mankind is equal and has the right to
independence. No one is allowed to harm another s life, liberty, health and possessions. Locke
exclaims how one man does not hold a higher status than another man. With that being said, a man
must learn how to preserve the rest of mankind. Every man has the right to initiate punishment and be
executioner of the law of nature . Although as the excerpt moves to chapter nine, Locke discusses why
one would give up their freedom in order to join a society with others.

The Mythology Of The Greek Society
It s generally agreed upon, from scholars to the average reader, that the ancient Greece society was
overwhelmingly patriarchal. For this reason, 4th century B.C had views that were dominantly
misogynist. Women were thought to be no more than tools to the men of the Athenian society. To
explain, one can look at the archaeology of the Greeks. The towering figure of Dionysos, the God of
Wine, hovering over a miniature, and at the same time powerless, women perfectly exemplifies this
concept of misogynism. To further the periods misogynistic ideas, the traditional literature had no
concept of centering a story around a woman. Yet despite living in this society as described, Greek
playwright Euripides was the first voice of protofeminism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even the chorus doesn t deny her endeavors, thus arousing some form of pity in the reader. Medea
even states that she just prefers death over all else. The argument though is, can there really by pity for
a child killer and a savage whose actions have resulted in countless deaths? No matter the outcome of
the play, Euripides writes it so there is a certain level of connection with Medea in the beginning of
the play, so the viewer can watch as she releases herself from the male control. This in turn makes the
viewer instead go through catharsis, because they related most to the tragic ending of Jason and
realized that this could have been prevented if a male treated a woman in a better fashion. Even
Bernard Knox, from the Johns Hopkins press, stated that the lines of Medea s speech is a complaint of
a woman of great intellectual capacity who lack the power for change (Knox 314). Euripides takes
advantage of this fact to convey that Medea wouldn t have mindlessly murder her children, he wanted
the audience to then think about why the playwright wrote that scene. Only then did they realize it was
to sympathize with Medea. Symbolically this scene conveyed women as an individual and not just a
women bearer. The horrors are a coverup for Euripides so his views of proto feminism weren t deemed
too radical. In addition, the work of Euripides

Difference Between Hard And Soft Skills
A few years back, a degree from a reputed university was enough for a job. Today, when things are
improved and advance, a degree cannot guarantee a job in any industry. Additional skills, knowledge
and expertise are also needed to secure your place in the industry today. Now you need both hard
skills and soft skills to survive in such a fast moving world.
Before moving further, let us explain what are hard skills and soft skills?
Hard skills (skills that are teachable and measurable) are also called technical skills and knowledge.
These skills can be learned and studied to get certain jobs in a particular sector. Typically, these hard
skills are listed on your resume. This is because these skills are the first thing that will get noticed by
the interviewer or hiring organisation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, a Business Development (BD) executive with thorough knowledge of its company s
services or products will surely have success, but the level of success is not as per the expectations.
On the other hand, with strong interpersonal skills that BD executive will be able to close more deals
and retain its clients. Similarly, a person on a responsible position should be a good listener, effective
speaker and a creative thinker. Every job role has its own requirements for some soft skills to make
hard skills worthy and useful.
Not All Soft Skills are Teachable: Hard skills are not hard to learn. They can be learned and taught
easily. On the other hand, soft skills are challenging and cannot be developed easily. Soft skills are
mainly associated with the character and qualities. A lot of commitment, conscious efforts and practice
required to improve these soft skills. Hard skills can boost up your resume, but soft skills can help you
stand apart from the crowd. You can also join skill development training in Delhi, India to sharpen

Social And Natural Resource Issues
For this week s forum, I hold the view of a normative pluralistic which relates the environmental and
natural resource issue of irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a healthy planet.
Normative pluralism is considered not to be as radical as the belief of a fundamentalist pluralist.
Formally, a normative pluralist assumes that there is a plurality of bearers of value (Stanford
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). The irreversible changes caused by negative consequences for a
healthy planet can be associated will the failure to widely produce agreements globally to tackle
environmental and natural resource issues. In the article, Global Green Pluralism, pluralistic values
discussed that support my argument are comprised of the division of labor amongst governments and
nongovernmental actors to govern the environment.
Some of the values that play a key role in the overall support the creation of an effective
environmental and/or natural resource policy to preserve the environment consist of actors/governance
components, agenda setting, networks, negotiation, compliance, implementation, and resilience. A
brief detailed description of each value is listed below.
Actors and governance components include public, private, and a civil society that engage in the
authority of regulating factors that impact the environment based on their relationships. In various
ways they are able to fulfill a host of governance over activities across their components. These

Democracy Is A Key Component Of Today s Society
The government is a crucial component of today s society. Its existence is important for a civilized
community. Its definition includes the exertion of authority, administration of public policies, and the
direction of its members or subjects. Along with the creation of laws, a government provides the
country with infrastructure and services, and maintains a military and police force amongst other
forces on behalf of the citizens of the country. A government works fairly and with justice when there
is rule by the people. Democracy is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people
and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving
periodically held free elections (Webster Dictionary). The utmost powerful characteristic of
democracy is that people hold the ultimate power. Democracy is a government of the people, by the
people, for the people Abraham Lincoln. A democratic government allows its citizens to manage their
government through indirective or directive procedures. Such procedures include freedom of
expression, fair and competitive elections to determine the authority for political power, and certain
restrictions on the exertion of authority. Such democratic governments choose between a presidential
system, a parliamentary system, or a hybrid system (semi presidential). These systems differ based on
how their executive, legislative, and judicial branches are organized. Along with a great impact on

attached my resume, hopeful that I would be considered for an interview. After I submitted my
application, I began to anticipate what the microbiology lab would be like.Would there be other
freshman working as assistants? What sort of research would they conduct? Finally, the day arrived to
find out. The free standing building was all the way on the opposite side of campus. I rode the bus and
was dropped off in front; everyone scurried out. As I walked the hallway, most of the labs appeared
like classroom labs: a large front station for the instructor surrounded by smaller lab stations for the
students. Finally, the hallway led to a smaller corridor of private labs. I found my way to a larger lab
that opened up into an atypical lab set up. Every inch of space in the lab was utilized by a machine, or
boxes of spare lab gear. It was not as simplistic as the teaching labs. After peering around a few lab
stations, I was greeted by Sean, who was in charge of the lab. He asked me a few mundane questions
about how I felt about science and what my goals were, and then he proceeded to introduce me to the
researchers. I showed up the following day with closed toed shoes and spent the next four years, in

Affirmative action helps universities have a much needed diversity among the campuses. Without
affirmative action in place the enrollment numbers for minorities are thought to plummet. It is thought
that the rate of African American student enrollment would drop an astonishing 18 percent. The
Hispanic enrollment would drop about one half. With this would cause the feeling of prejudice and
discrimination. Affirmative action has decreased and is thought that this has happened because of the
expense. One expense is financial aid as people feel that many minorities need financial aid. Financial

Causes Of Crime Rate
As of recently in the criminal justice system, crime rates have seemingly begun to exponentially
increase as the years pass by. Recently, a report compiled by the Congressional Research Service
shows that the federal prison population has jumped from 25,000 to 219,000 inmates since the 1980 s
(Biron, n.d.). Because of the many reasons behind this exponential increase in crime, many
correctional facilities across the country are experiencing overcrowding. Since prisons and jails are
unable to handle this rise in crime, many communities are having to resort to other means of punishing
those who choose to defy the law.
Over the years, researchers have found that there are five main factors that have caused the crime rate
to rise dramatically over the past thirty years. The first factor behind the dramatic increase in crime is
the increased use of mandatory sentencing. Mandatory sentencing has increased incarceration rates by
having people serve a minimum sentence for certain felony crimes such as domestic violence,
burglary and some drug possession charges ( Theories of Punishment and Mandatory Minimum , n.d.).
Because of mandatory sentencing, the thought of having the offender behind bars pretty much
becomes inevitable in sentencing as these polices have eliminated the ability of judges to tailor
judicial responses to each circumstance (Biron, n.d.). The second reason behind the rising crime rate is
the use of three strikes rulings. In California, offenders who receive a third

their learning ability. Poor nutrition among children in America is on the rise. This is due, in part, to
poor eating habits like skipping meals, overeating, working parents eating on the run, and fast food
establishments ( ). These factors not only cause a child health problems but also impedes their
learning. If a child cannot use his cognitive abilities to the fullest it will be harder to learn, participate
in class, and function properly throughout the day. Inadequate nutrition affects the long term
development of the child ( ). This could be detrimental to a child all the way into adulthood. Poor
eating habits could persist into college and then hinder them from being as productive as they could

Importance Of Internet And Online Marketing
Section 2 Literature review
The purpose of literature review is to find what literature has to offer on how retailers in New Zealand
and Australia use internet and online marketing to do business, and the barriers they face in doing so.
It would also look into the way retailers retain their customers.
2.1 Importance of internet and online marketing to business
Before one proceeds to explore the importance of internet and online marketing to business, it is
important to understand how well New Zealand is connected with internet. New Zealand is in a very
comfortable position to benefit from internet use. The physical internet infrastructure is growing and
Government s ultra fast broadband and rural broadband programmes have made sure that high speed
internet is available throughout the country. This could potentially lead New Zealand to have the best
network infrastructure in the world, as evidenced by the use of internet by businesses throughout the
country (Adams, 2013). Ninety six percent (96%) of firms are connected with internet. The economic
performances of these firms depend on how well they use it. Apart from the availability of internet, it
is vital to note the way businesses use internet by to improve the way they do business. Most of the
businesses in New Zealand do not use internet to its full potential, as proved from the World Wide
Web Foundation (2012) ranking. New Zealand is ranked 17th in the world for its ability to extract
economic value from

without consequences. This practice is corrupt and police officers who act in these ways should be
reprimanded and potentially fired for these actions. Some officers go beyond the law in ways they
should be incarcerated as well. America s governmental practice of excluding these police officers is
only promoting these behaviors, and a stop should be put to them. By implementing stricter
consequences, officers would be more conscious in their actions but now, it affects them as well.
Another strong bias displayed in the judicial system is the obvious bias in criminal sentencing in the
court. Many studies support the conclusion that people of color are sentenced longer in prison for the
same crime as a white person (McElrath, Tran, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem usually with wrongful convictions is impulsivity. The fact that the person on trial is a
person of color drastically improves the chances of being convicted without going through all motives
of an investigation, which obviously are given to white people because of their lower chance of
getting convicted wrongly. This is a prominent bias, that a person of color is always guilty of their
crime. These findings show that people of color and white people are not being treated the same in the
eyes of the law. How is it possible to feel safe with all of these findings stacked up against you? It just
isn t feasible. Kenneth Rouse still remains on death row to this day.
Some possible solutions to this is simply more diversity in the judicial bench. America needs to have a
criminal justice system that represents the diversity of America. When people think of America, they
think of the many faces that occupy our country. Unfortunately, this is only embraced by some. It is
impossible for someone to completely understand all circumstances of someone s situation without
first experiencing similar or the same realities. A white person simply does not know what it is like to
be a black person in society. This goes along with the concept of privilege, something everyone has in
different amounts, and something in which few people will acknowledge. This goes along with
gender, and sexuality. A center for American

Comparing Xia Shu s Bow Hung On Two Metal Hooks At The...
Xia Shu s bow hung balanced on two metal hooks at the head of Jingyan s bed.
Plum Blossom Prelude echoed in his bedroom as Jingyan s fingers mindlessly flitted over the holes of
the jade flute. A memory long lost to time drifted back to him. During a ritualistic nightly excursion
with Xiao Shu outside of the imperial palace, Jingyan scraped his arm scaling a rock wall and Xia Shu
bandaged the wound with expert precision.
If you tie it this way, it stays firmly on without sacrificing breathability.
The knot was unique. Even Jingan couldn t learn to tie it the same way.
Above him, Jingyan heard a muted shuffle and then the unmistakable sound of a brick tile falling to
the ground. Jingyan halted his playing and glance up, as if he ... Show more content on

He was special, but.. said Jingyan. He stood, walked over and brushed the tip of his finger along the
curve of Xiao Shu s bow. The wood was polished and smooth, but Jingyan didn t touch the string,
fearing that it d grown brittle in the cold. Between my brother and I, he would ve chosen my brother.
Between my father and him, I must choose my father.
That s tragic, said Yuan. The man reached out and then drew his hand back as if a sparked jumped
from the bow, I shouldn t have touched
Turning away, Jingyan said, Perhaps, he no longer cares.
After a stretch of silence, Yuan said, May I take you somewhere, Your Highness?
In the expanse of dead trees and snow in front of them, a memorial stone was half visible under the
arch of a large, fallen branch. Both men landed on the ground from their flight over the walls of the
Court of Eternity. Once stable on the ground, Jingyan approached and brushed the layer of fallen snow
from the engraved memorial stone.
Strength Loyalty
Greatness Nobility
Honorable Warrior of Liang Empire
Lie Zhanying
Jingyan s throat seized up. His body is here?
Yuan nodded.
Cold seeped from the foot of snow and stone ground beneath him, biting through the thick layers of
his cloak and clothes as he pressed both his knees to the ground and knelt before Zhanying s grave.
Without a word, Jingyan bowed three times before the grave. After the last time,

Essay- How Computers Benefit Businesses
The business world of the 21st century is becoming more demanding and challenging as operations
grew bigger and more complex with projects that need to be done in smaller time frames. There is
very little room for even slight errors and mistakes; as such errors can cost businessmen millions of
dollars. Therefore, reliable workforces are much needed to get projects done quickly as well as
efficiently. This is why computer aided tasks are becoming an increasingly popular trend nowadays.
The first generation of computers dates back to as early as the 1940 s. The computers of that time
however proved to be a hassle just to run and maintain it to be of any use to businesses of the times. It
was very huge, extremely sluggish and slow but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Errors only occur if data or instructions itself that are being keyed into the computer contains error.
This is very important for companies to avoid problems, because a slight error can be costly as
mentioned earlier. A good example is when an accountant is doing hefty financial calculations, if there
s even a slight mistake in the calculation; the whole account needs to be recalculated, which will take
a lot of time. With the help of computers, such problems do not exist.
Computers have the ability to store data in its storage media. This means previous transactions, client
database and other form of business related information can be stored electronically inside a computer
for future reference. This is very useful as it replaces the obsolete method of keeping records in files
and papers inside cabinets, in a more secure manner where these data can be protected with a
password. Not only that, computers have the ability to search for specific file, record or other form of
information using the integrated search tool. This process is much faster compared to the process of
searching for files in cabinets manually, saving invaluable time.
Modern computers are very reliable and have low failure rate. Long gone are the days of expensive
maintenance costs and unreliable computers. This is because every electronic component in the
computer system have

Theme Of Bravery In To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird represents two kids growing up in the south. While these children
are growing up they have learned that prejudice can be a horrible thing. There are many themes that
the author develops throughout the story. Some of these themes include, importance of education,
prejudice, and innocence. Atticus illustrates the characteristics of bravery in Harper Lee s novel by the
trial for Tom Robinson and being threatened by Bob Ewell. First, Harper Lee shows bravery through
Atticus by being the lawyer for Tom Robinson. Atticus Finch is fighting for an african american and is
strongly disliked for it by his town. Mrs. Dubose one of the neighbors shouts at the kids Not only a

My Passion For North Carolina Basketball
My passion for North Carolina basketball began the moment I understood what basketball was. One
evening while we were watching a game, my father, a graduate of the University of North Carolina,
declared me a fan of the Tar Heels. Without any objection, I made the decision to be a fan. Little did I
know that I would have countless memories on account of this decision.
At the young age of 7, my devotion and loyalty to the team had already grown to an emotional level. I
took each outcome personally, as though I was a part of the team myself. Already enjoying the
championship win of 2005, North Carolina fans like me were lucky to experience such success each
year. However, my expectations rose to a level that would leave me disappointed ... Show more

I was discouraged by his abandonment of the team. I decided to never leave a game no matter the
score. Although to no surprise, Kansas won. I could not believe it. A stream of tears began to run down
my face as I ran up the stairs to deliver the horrible news to my father, who was disappointed but not
surprised. I sprawled out onto the floor dispirited and let out a cry for longer than the baby had. My
father made an attempt to stop me, but my sadness was not to be argued with. Today, I laugh at the
story, impressed by the amount of passion and importance I held in a simple game.
The following year, Carolina fans returned with even higher expectations. Over the course of the
regular season, these expectations were fulfilled. Entering the tournament as a top seed with the same
starting squad, the team was faced with a similar challenge to the one that they were defeated by the
year before. Taking advantage of the Elite Eight game in Memphis, my father, brother, and I traveled
to watch the game against Oklahoma live at the FedExForum. As we entered the arena, I became
nervous considering the possibility of defeat. We found our seats and prepared for tip off. Late in the
second half, North Carolina took a sizeable lead that would put the Heels ahead for good. The confetti
that rained down put a smile on my face. Watching the players cut down the nets, I knew that I would
always be a Carolina fan. The team would continue to defeat Villanova and later

  • 2. Viral Genetic Variation Lab Analysis Title: Viral Genetic Variation Accounts for a Third of Variability in 1 Set Point Viral Load Introduction: The extent to the pathogenesis of the human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1), or HIV , has been studied for years. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of the disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL). Depending on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can strongly predict the severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes. The severity of SPVL is strongly associated with the genotype of the virus and its heritability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model. Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is a strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging from 20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is explained by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus kills), the heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the virus s genotype. In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and calculation error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results of the study, and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV heritability is not a direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it was confirmed that there is a significant variability in viral load of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since this day is so important I will have had to prepare a few things before the day actually starts. I will have assigned seats in my classroom before the day starts, and I will have written my bell work activity for the class before they arrive. Finally, I will have all the materials I need for that day within reach, so I am prepared for transitions. Class length 8:40 9:34 Pre class time 8:15 8:40 I will stand outside my classroom looking for my students. When I see my students I will great them, introduce myself as Mr. Zaruba, their 8th grade science teacher, and tell them to find their seat and read the board. Greeting the children at the door starts them off with a comfortable first day, and allows me to set the expectation of getting to work right away. Beginning activity 8:40 8:55 Bell work will be listed on the board for them to complete. The bell work for the first day will be a questionnaire for the students to fill out. The activity will provide me with crucial information about my students interests and goals. I will collect the bell work after 7 minutes and begin to go over my expectations in the class. My expectations will be presented in a fun music themed PowerPoint that will not take me longer than 8 minutes max. At the end of the PowerPoint, I will have my students repeat the expectations back to me. Finally I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Income inequalities has been one hot topic and address by almost all the candidates. Some believe a higher tax rate on the rich is the solution whiles others believe it will do more harm to the society good. I ask myself, should Mr. Herbert Spencer, Minister Graham Sumner, and Andrew Carnegie come back to life, what will be their response? The aforementioned are the considered the fathers of Social Darwinism. In this essay I will discuss and evaluate the theory of Social Darwinism. He claims The former carries society forward and favors all its best members; the latter carries society downwards and favors all its worst members. (VAROUS, 2009) This statement epitomize the thinking or ideals of a Social Darwinian and it will also form the basis for most of my discussion and evaluation. Adam Smith s classical economies theories being one of the major ingredients in the Social Darwinian theory, meant they were strong proponents of Hands off Laissez faire. They advocated restricted government intervention and or meddling with the economy, they believed in individual self interest and competition and opposed the taxation and regulation of commerce. Taxation to a Social Darwinian was just a robbery of resources from the producer to the non producer and for that matter not a good practice. GMOs are widely used by scientists in many different ways to include the production of food and in research.8 Zebrafish genetically modified to be a fluorescent bright red, green and orange have been available for purchase as pets in 49 states in the United States since 2003.8 However, these patented GloFish are banned in California. The California Fish and Game Commission decided the fish were the result of a trivial use for a powerful technology. 7 The Commission s belief that the fish should not have been created led to a law making the GloFish illegal. Originally GloFish were developed by scientists in Singapore to be living pollution sensors as they would only glow when in the presence of pollutants.7 The Commission s ban on GloFish highlights the controversy over genetically modified organisms and how public opinion can be swayed by the beliefs of others whether those beliefs are based on science or not. This paper will focus first on what genetic modification means and then will look at the pros and cons of genetically modified foods. Finally, the author s opinion of the issue of GMO food will conclude the paper. Wikipedia defines genetic modification as the mutation, insertion or deletion of genes. • 9. Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1-13 This week s Bible Passage Isaiah 53, 1 12, is about a prophecy that was written approximately 700 to 800 years before Jesus even came to this earth. The scripture speaks of God s servant, which is Jesus who would be just a plain and ordinary servant with no dignity or beauty to make us desire him or draw us to him. He was despised, rejected and he faced much pain and suffering. No one would even look at Jesus in the face; he was ignored and was treated like he was nothing. He was a man of great sorrows. Jesus would receive the wounds and suffering that should have been ours, he endured the punishment, so that people can have peace. They thought Cuba could not stand up to the United States. What they didn t expect was that Cuba would put up a fight. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a deciding factor in the Cold War that gave Cuba and the Soviet Union strength, and decreased morale and confidence in the Americans. The Bay of Pigs invasion took place during the Cold War, which was not an actual war, but it consisted of tensions between the USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic) and the United States and both their allies. The Cold War began in the late 1940 s and ended in the early 1990 s. Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. • 11. How Does Hamlet React To Uncertainty In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet , he communicates that people react to certainty and uncertainty in different ways. Not only can it affect the people around them, but it can affect their own lives as well. For some people, the doubt could get to their head and cause an anxious response where it could lead to a destructive path for themselves and can really hurt the people they care about most. This is evident with Hamlet, when his father dies and his ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius was the one who murdered him. Hamlet became uncertain if the ghost was actually his father s or an evil spirit. However, this leads him to find out if Claudius really was the murderer which in turn lead to the death of Polonius and eventually Laertes. While Claudius was fake praying, Hamlet was uncertain if he should kill the new king right there as he thought he may go to hell for killing someone, which eventually stopped him from going through with it. When he went to see his own mother, Polonius was hiding. but when he calls out for help, Hamlet accidentally killed him. After the death of Polonius, Laertes made his way back to get revenge for his father who he thought was killed by the king. During this destructive path, Hamlet had sent a letter to England pretending to be the king to get his two best friends killed after being betrayed by them. The Labour Government as The Creator Of The Welfare State A Welfare State is a system in which the government undertakes responsibility for the well being of its population, through unemployment insurance, old age pensions and other social security measures. In order to achieve this the Labour Government of 1945 51 introduced a number of reforms, including the National Insurance Act of 1946 and the Education Act. They also managed to achieve full employment, a target never met before in Britain. However, they are not the only reason for the arrival of the Welfare State. When Labour took the idea they produced three pieces of legislation. These were the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act of 1946, the National Insurance Act of 1946 and the National Assistance Act of 1948. The National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act made injuries sustained in the work place a public matter and set up an insurance scheme, where the worker, employer and the state paid money weekly, providing insurance against injury. The National Insurance Act provided, as suggested by Beveridge, a range of benefits to cover the person from birth until death. The National Assistance Act provided further cover for those who were disabled, old aged, sick or of any other special needs, acting as a safety net. The problem with this, however, was that benefits were not set high enough and so National Assistance boards were flooded with applications for extra benefit, creating great strain on the available funds. To deal with the problem of disease Labour provided the National Health Service. This was completely thought up by them and was very successful. It provided free medical assistance of any kind, including eye care, dental care, hearing facilities, specialists and general practitioners. Night Shyamalan, used various film devices to make the film a film of substance, suspense, and a sense of relief or discovery. The most prevalent film devices used in this movie are: foreshadowing, symbolism, and motif. These three film devices are used to assist the viewer of the film in fully understanding the plot and helping the audience to understand the significance of some dialogue or a specific shot in the film. In The Sixth Sense, a young boy, named Cole Sear (played by Haley Joel Osment), seems to have some sort of mental or psychological illness, which is later thought to be a type of childhood schizophrenia. Foreshadowing is used to give hints about what will happen next in the plot, and it may give a sense of relief or discovery. An example of foreshadowing in this movie is: in the beginning of the film, Vincent breaks and enters into Dr. Crowe s home. As stated before. Vincent Grey was a former patient or client of Crowe s. Vincent tells Dr. Crowe that he had failed him and after the whole dramatic episode, Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. When Crowe gets shot, a viewer of the film could assume the bullet went somewhere near his kidney, which could be fatal. However, at this point in the movie, the audience wouldn t know that it killed him. This was a flashback. This is evidence that the plot was constructed with in medias res in mind. Another example of foreshadowing is the fact that it seems as if Cole is the only person who can talk to Dr. Crowe. This is especially significant because of the opening scene which involved the shooting of Crowe. The audience, then, could start making assumptions that the shot killed Crowe and the only reasons Cole is the only one who talks to him is because he s dead. • 14. Analysis Of The Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold It s fun to have fun, but you have to know how (Seuss 1957). Growing up, reading was one of my way favorite ways of having fun. In preschool, I was that lonely kid in the back of the class who would only talk to the teachers. My only friend was my older brother by two years, Peter. We were inseparable. We did everything together. When he started reading, I tried to begin reading because I was jealous that he was able to do something so different and mystifying. I did not actually understand those jumbles of letters until my last year of preschool, but I still cherish the days my brother would read me Dr. Seuss books. My elementary school years consisted of a lot of reading. At my elementary school, we had the AR wall. If you read books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It kept me constantly wondering the whole time. So many thoughts and questions were running through my mind all at once. The Lovely Bones is about Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl, who was violently murdered, watching her family struggle through, and eventually come to terms with, the tragedy of her death. Sebold paints a picture of Susie s heaven by describing the surrounding buildings as ...large, squat buildings spread out on dismally landscaped sandy lots, with overhangs and open spaces to make them feel more modern (Sebold 16). Susie is telling her story from her afterlife, so Sebold creates imagery to place the reader in Susie s perspective. Sebold also uses a variety of figurative language. One example is My parents were like sleepwalkers saying yes to his questions, nodding their heads to flowers or speakers (Sebold 98). Sebold uses this simile to describe how lifeless Susie s parents feel as they are preparing for her funeral. The use of figurative language brings more emotion to the reader because they can clearly imagine themselves in that exact scene. The main theme in this book is that bad things will happen to the most innocent of us, but we will eventually accept it and move on. At the end, this is evident in Susie saying, These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent that happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it (Sebold 320). Watching the connections between her loved ones grow on earth without her allows her to accept her death and move on from the human world. She recognizes that these new relationships, stemming from the tragedy of her death, represent that love and hope are still alive in her family. This just goes to show that we all need people to lean on in our darkest days. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Man After God s Own Heart David was the last son of Jesse, ancestor to Jesus Christ and the second King of Israel. He was considered as a Man after God s own heart . From a shepherd boy to a warrior, and from a warrior to a King, he lived his life the best he could for the Lord. Through the battles he fought, and the wars he was victorious in, he could ve ended up in pride considering how great and mighty a King he was. In spite of his successes in battle, he was known to be a man of humility. David wasn t perfect; he sinned just like everyone else. Though King David had a record of killing and adultery, he displayed a repentant heart. During the middle of his reign, King David committed adultery with Uriah s wife, Bathsheba. When David found out about Bathsheba s pregnancy, he sent for the solider Uriah from the battle field with a command to visit his wife in hopes of covering his tracks. David did this twice. Uriah didn t go the first time because he was getting the opportunity to do something that his fellow soldiers were not. He also didn t go after he ate and drank with the King. Why didn t Uriah return to Bathsheba after the second command? Could it be because he never loved Bathsheba to begin with? Or because he found out what happened? However, in spite of what Uriah s reasons were, David saw that he could not instruct this man to obey his order; King or not. After Uriah s decision, David made his decision that Uriah had to die. Cain is described as the tiller of the ground whereas Abel is the keeper of sheep. Both men know that God requires an offering, but the offering of Cain is quite different from that of Abel. Abel fears God, and because of this he offers the best of his flock to the Lord. He kills the animal and makes a sacrifice of blood. Abel understands that the shedding of innocent blood for the forgiveness of sin is acceptable. He also knows that this action of his is representative of surrendering his heart to God. God comes to Cain to confront him with the responsibility and Cain denies him. God comes not to find the truth, but to allow Cain the opportunity to admit the truth. Never being able to admit his sin and receive God s blessing, he receives a curse. His farming shall not flourish as it once did, and he must wander and be a fugitive. God puts a mark on Cain as one of deserving of death yet one chosen by God to live. One interpretation of the mark is that God believes death is too good for Cain and punishes him by making him live with what he has to do. It can also be looked at as allowing Cain an open door through which he can return whenever he is ready to face things more honestly. Cain is very much like each and every one of us and it seems that we are fascinated with him. This could be because there is good and evil in every one of us. Of Abel, we basically just hear that he was born and murdered by his brother. Without a lot of explanation we are left with the nagging mystery of the death of an innocent man. We deal with that continuing mystery each day as innocent people are killed. In some ways you find out that murderers are more like you than different from you. Most of them have snapped during a horrible time in their life and taken the life of a loved one. For them it was not a logical move because none of them really were thinking logically at the time. Typically it was an action coming out of being totally absorbed in the other person. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Jane Austen s Novel And True Classic Sense And Sensibility There are many authors whose works are considered to be classics; perhaps the most influential is Jane Austen. Jane Austen wrote six novels, that in today s world, we call classics. Her first novel and true classic Sense and Sensibility, was published in 1811 at a time when the world was just starting to write full length novels. Though Jane Austen only lived to be forty one, she contributed much too modern literature; such as being one of the first major authors to make use of the three volume novel, and to use chapters within the volumes (Sweeton). One of the many reasons as to why Jane Austen s novels are considered classics is due to the fact that she wrote about real social and financial issues of the day; however, financial and social issues are timeless, therefore they are still relevant in today s world. As one follows along with the Dashwood sisters in Sense and Sensibility, we see how the title of the story is very fitting; by providing one sister with sense and the other with sensibility, the story has two different dynamics that create a timeless classic. Born in 1775, Jane Austen grew up in a time when the dynamics of the world were constantly changing. Jane Austen was born in Steventon a village of Hampshire England, to a large family that consisted of seven other children (Jane Austen). Having an interest in writing since a young age, one of her first works of writing was a novella titled Lady Susan, a story written in epistle form (which means as a ... • 19. Forest Succession Each type of tree has a different set of specific requirements for growth, and not every type of tree can grow at any point of time or place. However, as time passes, the conditions of that location might change, allowing for a different tree species to grow. This change in conditions is known as forest succession. Forest succession is generally triggered by a disturbance, which is defined in this case as an event that causes mortality. Forest succession is a natural process, and a lot of the time the disturbance is also. In the past, natural disturbances including lightning strikes and resulting fires, winds, tornadoes, disease and insects, ice, and storms. They are generally broken down into two groups: the early successional species and the late successional species. The early successional trees generally grow fast and have high reproduction rates, but don t live long and are shade intolerant. This group includes the birch family, black cherries, and white pines. As time passes, the forest closes in, and trees begin to die. As the early successional generation of trees die, the late successional group starts to grow and take over. This group has a slow growth rate and long lifespan and includes the American beech, the oaks, and the hemlock. Because of this succession, we develop two different types of forests, young growth and old growth forests. Young growth forests consist of many of the early successional trees and have more trees overall, yet still tend to have less basal area, or the area taken up by the bases of the trees. Old growth forests, on the other hand, are formed almost completely by late successional trees with the bases of the trees spaced further apart yet with more basal area. Here in this laboratory experiment, we investigated the differences between an old growth (late successional) forest and a young (early successional) forest. We measured the basal area of systematically selected trees, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Metaphors In Poetry M S Essay Hope is the thing with Feather , by Emily Dickinson, and The Path not taken , by Robert Frost, are poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how hope and decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer difficult moments that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it determines what path we will go and determines our future. For this reason, 4th century B.C had views that were dominantly misogynist. Women were thought to be no more than tools to the men of the Athenian society. To explain, one can look at the archaeology of the Greeks. The towering figure of Dionysos, the God of Wine, hovering over a miniature, and at the same time powerless, women perfectly exemplifies this concept of misogynism. No matter the outcome of the play, Euripides writes it so there is a certain level of connection with Medea in the beginning of the play, so the viewer can watch as she releases herself from the male control. This in turn makes the viewer instead go through catharsis, because they related most to the tragic ending of Jason and realized that this could have been prevented if a male treated a woman in a better fashion. Even Bernard Knox, from the Johns Hopkins press, stated that the lines of Medea s speech is a complaint of a woman of great intellectual capacity who lack the power for change (Knox 314). Euripides takes advantage of this fact to convey that Medea wouldn t have mindlessly murder her children, he wanted the audience to then think about why the playwright wrote that scene. • 37. Causes Of Crime Rate As of recently in the criminal justice system, crime rates have seemingly begun to exponentially increase as the years pass by. Recently, a report compiled by the Congressional Research Service shows that the federal prison population has jumped from 25,000 to 219,000 inmates since the 1980 s (Biron, n.d.). Because of the many reasons behind this exponential increase in crime, many correctional facilities across the country are experiencing overcrowding. Since prisons and jails are unable to handle this rise in crime, many communities are having to resort to other means of punishing those who choose to defy the law. Over the years, researchers have found that there are five main factors that have caused the crime rate to rise dramatically over the past thirty years. The first factor behind the dramatic increase in crime is the increased use of mandatory sentencing. Mandatory sentencing has increased incarceration rates by having people serve a minimum sentence for certain felony crimes such as domestic violence, burglary and some drug possession charges ( Theories of Punishment and Mandatory Minimum , n.d.). Because of mandatory sentencing, the thought of having the offender behind bars pretty much becomes inevitable in sentencing as these polices have eliminated the ability of judges to tailor judicial responses to each circumstance (Biron, n.d.). Instantly, my heart rate doubled and I could feel a rush of adrenaline throughout my body as I leaped out of my seat. I had never thought in a billion years that I would be called up and given an award for the presentation of my research, especially as a junior. I was really just proud of myself for entering. As I walked up to the multi level stage in front of more than 600 people, I experienced a mix of emotions ranging from surprise to pride to even a slight nervousness due to the enormous crowd of parents, teachers, judges, and scientists in front of me. When I reached the top, I took a glance down at my close friends and family cheering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had conducted some valuable research on the effectiveness of a treatment method for this anxiety disorder due to how detrimental it has been to me; I didn t want selective mutism to disrupt other children s childhoods like it did to mine. Despite my voiceless and anxiety filled past, I had managed to present my research to five new judges throughout the day and stand on a stage in front of hundreds of people. This moment on the stage was the culmination of years of hard work, persistence, and self realization. When I climbed back down from the stage to my seat after the other award recipients in my category were called up, my friend, Andrew, and my research teacher congratulated me. Since my category was the first one to get called upon, I had about an hour to reflect on my experience. While my peers got called up to receive their awards, I had a huge realization: I enjoy being valued and leaving a positive impact on the world. Life on earth is finite. What you make of your time here and the impact that you have on others in the future is what defines the life that you had lived. The $25 check and the cheap medal that I had received from the competition signifies nothing to me in the grand scheme. None of it will matter in 10 years. It s the altered mindset that this entire research experience has brought me that I value the most and what I will remember for the rest of my life. Helping out kids with a relatively ... School meals are now being made healthier so that children can practice good nutrition skills. Children of all socioeconomic levels are at risk for poor nutrition. • 41. The American Civil Liberties Union without consequences. This practice is corrupt and police officers who act in these ways should be reprimanded and potentially fired for these actions. Some officers go beyond the law in ways they should be incarcerated as well. America s governmental practice of excluding these police officers is only promoting these behaviors, and a stop should be put to them. By implementing stricter consequences, officers would be more conscious in their actions but now, it affects them as well. Another strong bias displayed in the judicial system is the obvious bias in criminal sentencing in the court. The problem usually with wrongful convictions is impulsivity. The fact that the person on trial is a person of color drastically improves the chances of being convicted without going through all motives of an investigation, which obviously are given to white people because of their lower chance of getting convicted wrongly. This is a prominent bias, that a person of color is always guilty of their crime. These findings show that people of color and white people are not being treated the same in the eyes of the law. How is it possible to feel safe with all of these findings stacked up against you? It just isn t feasible. Kenneth Rouse still remains on death row to this day. Some possible solutions to this is simply more diversity in the judicial bench. America needs to have a criminal justice system that represents the diversity of America. When people think of America, they think of the many faces that occupy our country. Unfortunately, this is only embraced by some. It is impossible for someone to completely understand all circumstances of someone s situation without first experiencing similar or the same realities. A white person simply does not know what it is like to be a black person in society. This goes along with the concept of privilege, something everyone has in different amounts, and something in which few people will acknowledge. This goes along with gender, and sexuality. • 46. My Passion For North Carolina Basketball My passion for North Carolina basketball began the moment I understood what basketball was. One evening while we were watching a game, my father, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, declared me a fan of the Tar Heels. Without any objection, I made the decision to be a fan. Little did I know that I would have countless memories on account of this decision. At the young age of 7, my devotion and loyalty to the team had already grown to an emotional level. I sprawled out onto the floor dispirited and let out a cry for longer than the baby had. My father made an attempt to stop me, but my sadness was not to be argued with. Today, I laugh at the story, impressed by the amount of passion and importance I held in a simple game. The following year, Carolina fans returned with even higher expectations. Over the course of the regular season, these expectations were fulfilled. Entering the tournament as a top seed with the same starting squad, the team was faced with a similar challenge to the one that they were defeated by the year before. Taking advantage of the Elite Eight game in Memphis, my father, brother, and I traveled to watch the game against Oklahoma live at the FedExForum.
