Racial Tensions In The Workplace
Unbeknownst to many, the workplace harbors a notorious serial killer; Race. There are several cases,
notably that of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, where racial tensions in the workplace sparked hatred
and resentment. Alison Parker and Adam Ward were murdered by Vester Flanagan, a coworker of
theirs. As for why, The Louisiana Weekly states that Vester sued his former employer for racial
discrimination, but the claim fell through. While his reasons do not justify his actions, racial
discrimination is just as intolerable, especially in the workplace. But racial tension doesn t come
naturally to the workplace, it is brought by the people, people instilled with the ideas of their
ancestors. The repression of African Americans began with the Transatlantic

How Did Lenin Contribute To The Failure Of The Provisional...
The Russian Revolution of 1917 was one of the most important events of the twentieth century.
Having to deal with his growing opposition and the embarrassing defeats Tsar Nicholas II faced in
World War I, the Tsar was left with no choice but to abdicate his throne and get replaced by the
Provisional Government. The Provisional Government however failed to disengage from WWI or
resolve the economic downfall that resulted from the collapse of the old order. Due to these failures
the Provisional Government also broke down and were unable to bring Russia back to the functioning
democracy it once was. Because of the lack of an operating government The Bolsheviks were able to
seize power without competition, for a long time. Although Lenin s leadership is widely regarded as

Past events in Lenin s life steered him towards the path of a revolutionary. After the execution of his
brother because of his involvement in anti tsarist activities, Lenin took an interest in political studies
and joined many discussion groups, quickly rising to the position of leader. Lenin was also very strong
willed and brilliant, making him a formidable leader. Unlike the Provisional Government which
lacked support and authority, he made sure there were internal conflicts between the Bolsheviks, in
turn creating a ruthless political party. Even though he had the leadership qualities that lead the
Bolsheviks to victory, it should be remembered Lenin only returned to Russia after the February
Revolution, therefore making the fall of the tsarist regime and the Provisional Government taking
control prerequisites for the Bolsheviks rise to power in 1917. Further proving evidence that Lenin s
leadership qualities were more or less a trigger factor that lead to the collapse of the old order, as he

How Did Conscription Change Canadian Identity
Firstly, the Conscription Crisis of 1942 provoked conflict between the French and English Canadians,
but also changed Canadian identity positively during the 1940s. Ever since World War ll began and
Canada joined the war the French Canadians highly opposed to the idea of conscription; [...]English
Canadians, who were mostly in favour of conscription, and French Canadians, who were strongly
opposed. To begin with, the prime minister of Canada at the time, Mackenzie King had acknowledged
the great disagreement the French Canadians had against conscription and made a promise to the
nation: King s government [...] had promised the nation, and particularly Quebec, that it would not
send any conscripts to serve overseas. The last thing that King wanted to do was to impose
conscription especially when Quebec strongly believed in anti conscription: The Quebec ministers
kept a strong vigil over King s anti conscription predisposition, reminding him of the terrible
divisiveness of the World War 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue had bitterly divided the nation, and Mackenzie King, eyewitness to the first conscription
crisis, tried desperately to avoid another.
King was thrust between two forces, the French Canadians and the English Canadians and two
different opinions, conscription and no conscription: He couldn t anger English Canada by ignoring
the call for conscription, but enforcing it right away would alienate Quebec completely. So King
performed one of his classic political sidesteps by declaring, Not necessarily conscription but
conscription if necessary . Later the Minister of National Defence confirmed that overseas
conscription was necessary. [...]the Prime Minister was

Interdependence Between Manhood And Responsibility
Responsibility and manhood can be considered as two particular notions but they are tackled in The
House on Mango Street and Bloodline by Ernest J Gaines and Sandra Cisneros in such a way they are
sometime interacting in many situations. That is to say, each of them cannot go without the other. The
authors, throughout their books they establish many aspects which support that manhood and
responsibility are linked when they consider sometime that manhood can be reached by assuming
responsibility which is proved thanks to the behaviors of a few characters in both books. Nevertheless
this situation of interdependence between manhood and responsibility does not keep Ernest J Gaines
and Sandra Cisneros to establish limits between these two notions. ... Show more content on

Gaines and Cisneros end up to disassociate the notion of responsibility and manhood throughout some
characters in their books for example Eddie in the story A long Day in November in which one can
notice that Gaines tries to clarify that responsibility does not always go with manhood , that is to say,
sometimes responsibility defines only a personal advantage, that is why the responsibility of Eddie has
nothing to do with the responsibility that leads to manhood because when he decides to burn his car,
he is committed to lose it in order to make his wife to return home in return. Gaines makes the
comparison between assuming responsibility and making a choice as Eddie do. In addition we can
also say that Eddie s responsibility is a little bite complex because though he takes responsibility but
due to his weakness face to his wife and the way he let himself to be manipulated by his mother s wife
remove all his manhood. Therefore the responsibility as presented by Gaines throughout Eddie has no
link and relationship with

Summary
This article titled Peer Assisted Study Sessions and Student Performance: The Role of Academic
Engagement, Student Identity, and Statistics Self Efficacy is written by three PhD candidates at
Griffith University who are conducting a study on new freshman students and their transition. This
study was based on the quantitative constructivist approach. It was done using both cross sectional and
longitudinal design to determine the effects of Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) on student
performance outcomes.
PASS is a voluntary student lead preventative intervention for difficult and demanding tertiary
courses. The authors demonstrated the impact of the relationship between peer academic engagement
and its effects on student s identity, attendance and their belief of self efficacy. The outcome of their
findings demonstrated that students who participated in the PASS study had increased self efficacy
and increased confidence in their performance academically, in comparison to their first semester of
college. The authors explained that there were limitations the results of their cross sectional design did
not accurately reflect the full effects those who participated in the PASS study. Other participants such
as tutorials and lectures were not included and therefore it was recommended further exploration using
the longitudinal framework.

The Crucifixion In Mel Gibson s Film The Passion Of Christ
Mel Gibson s movie, The Passion of Christ, is a film based on the final hours of Jesus life. After
watching the film it can be concluded that there is an unambiguous portrayal of Jews being
responsible for Jesus death. There is no question throughout the film about who is responsible for the
crucifixion because of the nasty portrayal of the Jewish people and Roman soldiers. At every
opportunity, Gibson s reinforces the notion that the Jewish high priest and the Jewish followers are the
ones ultimately responsible for the Crucifixion through the language and wording used and the
constant display of their hatful actions towards Jesus, for those reasons the film is anti Jewish.
In the interview with Diane Sawyer, Gibson was asked if he was ... Show more content on

The bad Jews are the high priests and the other Jews in the mob, clearly yelling hateful slurs at Jesus,
however, the good Jews consisted of Mary, John, the other woman and their followers. Arguable, the
groups of good Jews are those who are though as models in Christianity today. The problem with
Gibson use of stereotypes is any viewer who has little to no background in the gospels or
understanding of the crucifixion, will see the Jewish people has completely involved in Jesus final
hours of being tortured and murdered. Also having a negative approach towards the Jewish people in
the film will also push any induvial who already blames the Jews for Jesus death even further, creating
more anti sematic movements.
In creating the movie Gibson, being a biblical literalist, picked parts from all four gospels, which
allowed for more options in shaping the film because each gospel has a similar but different view.
Gibson also used outside research to help the film. By doing so, he over exaggerated the anti Jewish
portrayal using material based on the mystical visions of, Anne Catherine Emerson, a nun who is
known for being anti Jewish. The parts Gibson choose contained anti Jewish lines, creating an anti
Jewish undertone throughout the

Case Study: Using the Balanced Scorecard to Move from Management by Experts to Managing for
Results through Data driven Decisions By John McGillicuddy, Mecklenburg County General Manager
Abstract Today s heightened emphasis on accountability requires a new model of managing publicly
funded resources. No longer can local government rely on department directors making subjective
decisions as the resident expert in their field. Implementing a balanced scorecard provides a
comprehensive and consistent approach to managing for results using data driven decisions aligned
with the organization s mission, vision, goals, and strategies. In 2001, Mecklenburg County began its
journey with a long term vision of the community in 2015. Seven years ... Show more content on

In retrospect, it was clear that cutting these vital positions simply because they were vacant was a poor
strategy for reducing costs. It also should be noted that Mecklenburg County is a highly political
environment, with the political majority of the board of county commissioners open to change in
virtually every two year election. Changes in the elected majority are often accompanied by swings in
political priorities, resulting in changes in funding for services. However, prior to 2001, there was no
consistent model used for making decisions based on priorities. This resulted in a very unstable and
non sustainable approach to achieving desired results. Essentially, the community and County staff
seemed to be experienced alternating between two diametrically opposed views. On one hand was the
view that county government could be all things to all people; the other philosophy was that there is
never a good reason to raise taxes. With this backdrop, County Manager Harry Jones, appointed by the
Board in October 2000, sought to develop a model and structure for decision making that could be
sustained regardless of economic conditions or political ideology. I. Starting with Vision There s an
old adage that if you don t know where you are going, any road will do. Said differently, the first step
in an important journey is deciding where you want to end up. As it relates to Mecklenburg County s

Petroglyphs Writing History
The idea of communicating ideas between people and generations is not a new one, for millennia
stories, advice, knowledge, has been passed from generation to generation; first orally, then through
petroglyphs, and finally handwriting. Although true handwriting has existed for five thousand years;
first invented by the Sumerians as a means of long distance communication which was necessitated by
trade (Mark, Joshua J. Writing. Ancient History Encyclopedia. Ancient History Encyclopedia, 28 Apr.
2011), it may not be the first form of writing ever invented. Some scholars argue that the petroglyphs
found on cave walls in France and Spain were the first form of writing, these paintings were
pictograms, depicting not only a hunt, but, some theorize, the location of hunts, who participated, and
sometimes even contained, or may have contained, a lesson. Don t hunt buffalo here unless you have a
hunting party , Dangerous Mammoth, kill many hunters , Good water near, many deer come drink .
(Gaur, Albertine. Non linguistic Forms of Writing. Literacy and the Politics of Writing. Bristol, UK:

eventually fell out of use in favor of later methods, it is still considered the grandfather of modern
handwriting in most of the world, especially in the United States and England.

The Life of Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand was the archduke of Austria Hungary. On June 28, 1914, Ferdinand and his wife,
Sophie, were visiting Sarajevo when the two were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the
Serbian terrorist group, the Black Hand. After several failed attempts from members of the Black
Hand that day, the members were running out of hope. However, due to a communication problem
with the driver of Ferdinand and his wife s car, they were forced to turn around in an alley that Princip
was hidden in. Two shots later, the pair was dead within minutes and Austria Hungary was ready to
make Serbian s pay for what they did. Archduke Franz Ferdinand s assassination had different effects

The Serbian nationalists were not only a main cause of Franz Ferdinand s assassination but of World
War I too. The Serbian nationalists were the main cause of Franz Ferdinand s assassination and aided
in the start of World War I. After the Austria Hungary Empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina, the
country of Serbia encouraged Serbians living there to rebel against Austria Hungarian rule in frequent
protests and civil disturbances (Pendergast 16). The Serbians began to fight for independence against
rule of Austria Hungary which led to the assassination of the Archduke of the Austria Hungary
Empire, Franz Ferdinand. The Black Hand was the terrorist group that murdered Franz Ferdinand and
his wife, Sophie. Not only was it led by Colonel Dragutin Dimitrijevic, the head of Serbian military
intelligence but Austria s Serbian ambassador is said to have known about the assassination
beforehand (Pendergast 21). Serbian s were sick of being ruled in an empire, so militant groups like
the Black Hand, wanted to untie the Slavic people in an independent pan Slavic state (Pendergast 45).
They were determined to put all the Slavic people together as a separate nationality and destroyed
people who got in their way, including Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of the Austria Hungary Empire.
With Franz Ferdinand being the heir to the Austria Hungarian throne, the Austria Hungarian Empire
began to call for a war against the Serbians but needed allies in order to have a chance of winning.

Kodak Vs. Digital Photography
In consumer film photography, Kodak was clearly the market leading incumbent. Based on the
information provided in the case it was certainly possible for Kodak to have become the leader in
consumer digital photography if they had followed the actions described below. Kodak s top
management and its internal research team had anticipated the threat from the digital photography to
their film photography business way back in 1980s. In fact, Kodak introduced the world s first
electronic image sensor, which is the most crucial component of the digital photography. They also
had developed numerous patented technologies in digital photography by 1989, many of which are
built into the digital cameras today. Despite this strong hold on intellectual properties in core digital
photography technologies, Kodak succumbed to new entrants in consumer digital photography due to
several intrinsic management flaws in its technology innovation and adoption strategies that were
certainly avoidable. Kodak should have leveraged its numerous patented technologies to gain the first
mover advantage in digital photography, instead of waiting until 1990s to release its first digital
camera. In the early adoption stage, Kodak should have strongly emphasized on product development
and manufacturing capabilities for a first generation, cost effective, and marketable digital camera
irrespective of its quality and appeal to their consumers. Kodak was slow to adopt this new
technological change

Charlie Parker Essay
The recording I listened to was the poem Charlie Parker performed by Jack Kerouac and Steve Allen.
This performance is accompanied by a musical rendition that relates to the poem s content, as the
poem is about musician Charlie Parker. Kerouac is performing this poem in memoriam of the
musician. Kerouac describes Charlie Parker in an affluent manner to attest to his musical reverence,
such as calling him a great musician . The sound of the poem and the meaning are greatly intertwined
with one another. The sound is musical and whimsical in nature, as the music playing compliments the
poem performance. The meaning of the poem is about the great musician Charlie Parker and a

I thought that Kerouac s musical tone of voice accompanying the music playing really gave the
experience of listening to a song rather than a poetry performance. It had a nice flow to the
performance that added to the songlike feel to this performance when listening to it. I especially heard
this tone in lines, such as we blop and we plop . The use of sound imagery helps in relating the
songlike feel to poetry to the actual musician who is at the center of the poem s content and meaning.
This is not the only imagery seen in the poem, as there are multiple points in the poem. Kerouac uses
imagery as a way to immerse in the poem to give the reader mental images about Charlie Parker. This
can be seen at the beginning of the poem when Kerouac is describing Charlie Parker, such as the line
Charlie Parker looked like Buddha. Kerouac also used imagery to describe the music of Charlie Parker
as well. Kerouac describes the experience of listening to Charlie Parker play in lines such as like the
perfect cry of some wild gang at a jam session Wail! Whap! . This type of imagery gives the feeling of
being at one of the great musician s performances. This poetry performance was one full of meaning
and emotion. The music helped assist in creating this experience of emotion and meaning to the poem
s content. The imagery also stands out in this performance to help create the vision of emotion and

I have had the personal experience of purchasing my college education. Picking a college was very
challenging and I had huge amounts of pros and cons to weigh throughout my decision process. I
knew that going to college and receiving a college education would be a wise investment and would
better benefit me in the future financially. The supply and demand for a college education has changed

The financial status that a person carries can often determine the supply and demand of receiving a
college education due to the fact that if a person obtains a college education they would be able to
make and earn more money. Making more money is a plus but another factor to think about is school
loans which will put a person in debt until the loans are paid off, so it is important for people to weigh
their pros and cons when it comes to going to college. Now with the growing technology and job
demands receiving a college education has increased in demand. People want to be successful in their
careers and want a bigger income so a college education is the wisest way to become successful. The
supply for college is always elevated and increases each year because more and more people realize
that receiving a college education is valuable and beneficial. Two substitutes for a college education
would be self educating which is where a person can get books, do research, and learn along with
teaching themselves on a particular topic, business field, certain materials and information. Self
educating is what some people might prefer if they do not have the drive or determination, along with
finances to be able to go to college and earn a college degree. Another substitute would be if a person
would ask their job to sponsor or pay for classes, training, or even college courses to be able to have
the opportunity to move up in the business and become more successful.

Essay about Jay Gatsby´s American Dream in The Great Gatsby
The ideal American Dream can be portrayed in many different ways, though generally based upon the
idea of opportunity for upward mobility within society. While people move to the top of society, they
accumulate the perceived good things in life: the perfect partner, high social status and respect in the
workplace to go along with the unlimited wealth and power. This idea is dated all the way back to the
beginning of American literature. In the past, Americans started with the basic needs and only the
things they needed to get by in life. Now families are transforming into a life view filled with the
perfect life, nice car, large house, and the ideal family. In The Great Gatsby the main character Jay

approve of Gatsby for their daughter due to the fact that he came from a poor family. Jay is once again
blinded, this time by the beauty and grace of Daisy and fails to see that Daisy is not who she appears
to once be. He craves her for the realization of his golden family in his perfect dream, but really Daisy
is far from that.
Throughout the novel Fitzgerald shows that Daisy is self centered and careless at heart; she is a
dreamer who fails to face reality. Continuing an affair with Gatsby with no real intentions of leaving
her husband eventually leads to the death of Gatsby. In return she shows little to no concerns over the
death of her love Gatsby and returns into the arms of her corrupt husband. Tom, who is also unfaithful
in their relationship has a mistress of his own who is killed in a car accident while Daisy was driving.
Tom as well shows no remorse in her death and moves on like nothing ever happened. Daisy and Tom
are the prime example of corruption in both material success and with what wealth can bring; They
instinctively seek out each other because each recognizes the other s strength in the corrupt

Willy Loman Isolation
In his world renowned play, Death of a Salesman , Arthur Miller creates a bubble of isolation around
his main protagonist, Willy Loman, this isolation increases as his mental state deteriorates.
The play follows the life of the eponymous salesman, Willy Loman. Set in Brooklyn, New York the
play reflects on the flaws of the American Dream. It expresses how self deception can lead to delusion
and the ultimate destruction of personal dreams. Ironically, there s also the contrasting experience of
Willy s son, Biff who, through self realisation, achieves an ultimate release to pursue his own more
realistic dream.
Miller creates the isolation surrounding Willy from the outset, Willy has just come home from one of
his business trips, where he spends the whole time by himself. He is greeted by his beloved wife,
Linda however instead of going upstairs to bed with her Willy stays down and starts to drift into the
past, even from the first scene we see signs of Willy s isolation. Miller uses his skilled play writing to
allow us to understand that Willy is going into the past, he uses stage directions when Willy is going
back in time, music is often played a melody is heard, played upon a flute this is an indication that he s
going into the past, this helps us understand play better, thus giving us a better understanding of Willy
s perplexed state of mind. This is our first insight that Willy is a very confused man, who is losing his

1.1 What are Strategic Capabilities?
In order for an organisation to survive and prosper it needs resources and competences, this is strategic

The Assemblies of God is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations, with 57 million adherents
worldwide. It was organized in 1914 to promote unity and doctrinal stability among groups that had
been influenced by the Pentecostal revivals of the early 1900s, revivals which were the result of a
desire to see an increase in God s power in churches and individuals. Many people spent long hours in
prayer, seeking a fresh infusion of the Spirit. Following the teachings of Charles Parham, these people
were expecting speaking in tongues as an evidence of the Holy Spirit s baptism. The first popularly
acknowledged revival was at Azusa Street in Los Angeles, 1906 1909. From that movement, several
churches were formed, and in April 1914, meetings were held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which led to
the formation of the Assemblies of God. Eudorus Bell, formerly a Southern Baptist preacher, was

Identify and discuss various representations of woman in Wuthering Heights
The depictions of women in Wuthering Heights reveal that despair and happiness are direct outcomes
of one s decision to either be submissive to or oppose patriarchal constructs respectively. Catherine
and Cathy II are portrayed as examples of both how giving power to patriarchal demands leads to
misery and pain in contrast to how resisting patriarchal demands will lead to hope and joy. Firstly, the
underlying theme of freedom illuminates how the women are influenced to make such critical
decisions regarding their respective futures. Secondly, the concept of upbringing illustrates how

Catherine views freedom as something unsafe and untameable and following patriarchy as safe and
more suitable despite it also constraining her natural ambitions (Garofalo, 2008: 831). Her choice
reflects the idea that freedom is undesirable as it dangerously goes beyond social norms and putts her
at odds with society (Hanlon, 1996: 506). Giving power to patriarchal demands results in negative
outcomes for Catherine s character continued conflict with other characters, depression, sickness, in
the end, untimely death. Cathy II, who in her childhood had the idea of freedom kept away from her,
constantly attempts to resist patriarchal constructs in order to achieve being free. Cathy II is
represented as a tough, strong willed female who opposes what others expect for her, in the way she
often uses the word defy (REFERENCE), the way she aims to draw pleasure from the grief of her
enemies (REFERENCE) and how she challenges Heathcliff to be physically violent towards her

the female gender in the way she attempts to escape Wuthering Heights and make her own,

It is near impossible to walk through a store and not see a female dressed suggestively posed on a
magazine or in an ad to sell any kind of product. Women are also subjected to be at home taking care
of the house and children and any needs that their husband may have at any given time. It is plastered
unashamedly on any available form of advertisement, whether it be for a diet pill, gym, clothing line,
etc., for a woman to look, act, and feel a certain way. Females as an entirety, are supposed to be in
shape, happy at all times to meet any and all needs, look like a runway model, and have all of our
ducks in a row. This is similar to how the Paleolithic people wanted women to look like the statuettes
and to be gatherers, serving their husband, children, and other family members that they may have had
(Anitei). Essentially, modern day society is reverting it s ideals to those of the Paleolithic people: to
separate ourselves into groups and to view women as sex objects and servants for their family. Next,
our ideology and treatment of others has somewhat regressed to the ways of the Old Stone Age. The
Paleolithic people worshiped a Mother Goddess that was similar to a mother nature genre of belief
(Cunningham). The Mother Goddess represented female power and it s role of rebirth and life
(Cunningham). Throughout history, society has drawn away from female goddesses and towards male
deities (Pino). Whilst we have numerous

Poverty Epidemic Within American Society
It is an undeniable fact there exists a growing poverty epidemic within American society that needs to
be addressed. According to a 2012 report by the Cato Institute the United States government spends
nearly one trillion dollars every year to combat severe financial need through a total of 126 separate
welfare programs. While this value by itself seems significantly large, perhaps to an even excessive
extent, in reality it had little effect on the American poverty level, never al allowing it to drop below
10.5%. Even with these massive government expenditures aimed at elevating quality of life, for many
households an escape from their low income bracket is still vastly unattainable. Current statistics show
that more than 40% of individuals born into the bottom quintile will remain there, failing to escape
into a life of financial stability. Despite immense funding, in its existing state of organization, the
system of aid currently offered by the American government to lower income household fails to
effectively alleviate the living conditions of the impoverished due to its negligence towards payday
loans and the other intangible costs of poverty, its temporary and ineffective solutions to fight hunger,
and most significantly, its insufficient reliance on an unreliable and inconsistent enforcement from
state jurisdictions. For many low income families, the set benefits offered by the government do not
provide a feasible escape from poverty, because they fail to

Hurricane Intensity
In all of the models and predictions of future hurricane activity examined, the influence of rainpower
on hurricane intensity was never mentioned or considered. Although the ways in which rain might
affect future hurricane intensity are not well understood and there have been very few studies
conducted on the subject, it is a factor that should be considered in future models and forecasts for the
future of hurricane intensity because of its large influence on hurricane intensity. The effect of
rainpower is actually a negative feedback loop, as increased sea surface temperatures cause more
water vapour, which leads to more rain, and consequently lessens hurricane intensity. Sabuwala et al

Social Class In The Outsiders
The Outsiders: Your Social Class Should Not Make You Judge Others Criss Jami once stated, When I
look at a person, I see a person not a rank, not a class, not a title. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton,
Ponyboy Curtis and his gang are Greaser s, meaning they have little to no money. As the text
progresses, Ponyboy is getting judged because of his social class. Ponyboy is having a hard time
fitting in with the people around him. One theme evident in The Outsiders is, you should never think
you are better than anyone because of your social class. In the beginning of the novel, the Soc s think
they are better than the Greaser s because of their social class. In chapter 3 of the text, Ponyboy states,

classes. Whether they fight or not the groups will still judge each other and be in different social

I want to continue riding longboards as long as possible especially with friends because its so fun. But

In order to be able to play in the MLB I would have to go to a pretty good baseball school. My dream

Why Is Hector Inevitable
The death of Hector was inevitable. After Agamemnon insulting Achilles by having his men take
Achilles prize award (King Priam s daughter), Achilles contemplated if he should take revenge on the
topic but sat on the shore line instead to think it over. While Achilles is deciding whether to destroy
Agamemnon and his people the Trojans attack the Greeks and kill a lot of Achilles men. This was a
time I thought to myself that there was no way Achilles was going to sit back and do nothing about the
deaths of his men. After Agamemnon discovers his idea to attack Achilles people is not worth it, he
begs Achilles to participate in the war so he can kill him off himself. Led by Hector, son of Priam, the
Trojans still decide to fight after Achilles denies the invitation. Patroclus, Achilles good friend,
decides to fight the Trojans but in place of Achilles, so he wears the armor designated for Achilles. ...

Though some may call him cruel and incapable of feelings sadness, I find that his defense against
Hector to resemble his heart that he had for his friend Patroclus. The Goddess Athena pretends to be
Hector s brother to encourage Hector to fight Achilles and stop standing behind the wall. I think this is
a very important aspect in the tale because without Athena pretending to be Deiphobus, Hector might
not have even fought him. After defeating Hector, Achilles showed no sign of remorse and took the
body into the town to show his victory off. Even though readers can feel the fear that came from
Hector as he was slowly dying, Achilles gave no mercy because he was fighting for his people which
makes him a hero in my book. Others might say Achilles is a bad person for not allowing the body of
Hector to go back to his family, but in those times the the main purpose of ending a war was to
exchange the bodies to gloat over their success. In my mind, if Hector were to kill Achilles he would
have not shown him any mercy

Siegfried vs Beowulf Essay examples
Any relations in a social order will endure, if there is infused into them some of that spirit of human
sympathy which qualifies life for immortality.
George William Russell
Homer defines a hero as one who acquires and maintains honor through victory in battle while
embracing a highly individualistic attitude. Homer s epic warriors were self interested in order to
preserve their honor and to acquire fame the currency used by the hero to achieve immortality. Heroes
of this archetype often show a neglectful disregard for the lives of their warriors and supporting cast.
This is symptomatic of their obsession with acquiring honor over building relationships (Dunkle). But
how can a hero protect his fame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the structure of the Homeric hero, Beowulf s only concern is becoming king and dying
gloriously in battle to get into Valhalla, a heaven reserved for the brave warriors who died fighting in
combat. He is so blinded by his goals that he discounts the well being of his men.
This is exemplified in the scene where Beowulf recounts his battle with Grendel to King Hrothgar. He
fails to mention that one of his men played the role of the sacrificial lamb, while the others assisted in
defeating the beast the whole process was a joint effort. However, for the 20 lines of his recount, he
emphasizes how pleased he is with Grendel writhing from pain, beaten by his bare hands (Heaney line
957 977). He is insinuating that he alone is responsible for the creature s death. The only time the
martyr is mentioned is when the chieftain gifting Beowulf s men reveals that one man s daring
prevented the doom [of killing more of the men] (Heaney line 1056). This episode suggests that
Beowulf is indifferent to the deaths of even those who are supposedly closest to him, as he remains
emotionally undamaged while boasting about his defeat. His lack of sympathy disables him from
creating a substantial bridge between him and his men. Siegfried, on the other hand, desires human
interaction. Unlike Beowulf, he has an affinity for securing his relationships with others by developing
strong loyalties

An Analysis of Competition in the Golf Industry
It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in Europe
during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the wealthy
individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very lucrative
industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990 s. Competition in the Golf

The state of the current economy paired with the decline in the number of golfers, has caused
companies to focus more on price and volume. Counterfeiting is largely attributable to the decisions
by executives to outsource for cheaper labor to manufacturers in China; who can produce a golf club
for less than $3 per club.
Recommendations
Companies currently operating within the golf industry, specifically Calloway Golf, must change their
current marketing approaches and strategies to withstand the recession and threats facing the industry.
Although Calloway has a strong R D department that tends to remain competitive with products and
technology, there have been little results in reference to scores. It is imperative that if companies are
going to market a product that will help golfers drive further and straighter that the results depict this
so that not to damage the brand name of a product. Secondly, due to the decline in equipment sales
and the number of golfers, prices are dropping and companies are outsourcing to maintain the volume
needed to remain competitive. Companies must be cautious and aware so that counterfeiting may be
reduced. This reduction would also allow companies to reduce their pricing and have more sales
without the competition of these cheaply priced knock offs. In the instance of

Children With An Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Today in the educational system, I think one of the most looked down upon inequalities are students
with an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. Especially in high school,
living with ADHD is extremely challenging because students have a harder time concentrating during
class, understanding the material given to them, or even taking tests and doing homework unlike other
students. It seems the school system, and even society judges students based on what level they are on.
For example if a student has straight A s in honors classes, that student would get all the praise, while
a student who has average or lower grades in regular classes, that student would be ignored, get
ridiculed or sometimes considered irrelevant. I myself am not officially diagnosed with ADHD, but I
consider myself have a larger amount of inattention, so I have witnessed these types of inequalities in
high school before. In Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Savage Inequalities of Public Education In New
York, Kozal explains how a school principal views the students reality, explaining Sometimes a school
principal...looks into the faces of the children in his school and offers a disarming statement that cuts
through official ambiguity. (261). It hurts to know that there are students who cannot focus properly in
school, and no one can see it physically happen.
The one thing every student does during class is simply concentrating. During a lesson, lecture, lab, or

Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William
Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny was

Emily Dickinson s Some Keep The Sabbath Going To Church
Although many of Emily Dickinson s poems are short they carry many meaningful and sayings and
ideas. The unique style of her poems has caused many to ponder at her works, but is nevertheless
monumental. The length and the dashes used by Dickinson is what makes her poems so interesting an
inspiring to read. In the poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church , Dickinson uses dashes to
emphasize her points. The dashes also cause the reader to stop which allows for a unique rhythm in
the poem. At the time that this particular work was written the first two lines would have probably
caused someone to naturally stop, Some keep the Sabbath going to Church / I keep it staying at Home
(Dickinson 1 2). After each pause one can almost hear a lady or gentlemen from Dickinson s time
gasping at such an unpopular statement. To think that someone would go against the status quo and
say that she does not feel God s presence in church but rather at her house is baffling. However, the
last lines sums up the poems point nicely by saying, So instead of getting to Heaven, at last / I m

Nursing Code Of Ethics In The Nursing Practice Environment
Ethical decision making concerning in nursing practice environment. Many a time nurse practitioners
find themselves in ethical dilemmas about what to do in certain situations and tend to follow their
instincts as the best course of action to pursue, and this could help to either solve the problematic issue
or land them into problems. I tend to think this is the main reason why the nurses code of ethics was
developed to act as a guide during such difficult situations. There are four ethical principles that must
be put into consideration by nurse practitioners while offering care for patients. They include the
following: respect for autonomy, non maleficence, beneficence, and justice (Beauchamp Childress,
2013). The principle of autonomy sometimes is described as respect for autonomy (Beauchamp
Childress, 2013). Respect for autonomy is one of the guiding principles of ethics where the nurse
practitioner expected to explain the care plan that he or she intends to offer to the patient and give the
patient a chance to decide for himself/herself on what he/she thinks will work best. This is also known
as a right to self determination, and the patient is given this chance after all critical information is
availed to him or her (Aitamaa Kilpi, 2015).
Beauchamp Childress (2013), stated non maleficence is the maxim or norm that one ought not to
inflict evil or harm (p. 152). Non maleficence requires that the healthcare provider should avoid

Once An Eagle By Anton Myrer
Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer is a very influential novel in the military. In fact, it is required reading
material for all 1st Lieutenants in the Marine Corps as well as in the United States Military Academy
at West Point. Many Army leaders have read the book and often discuss it among themselves in social
situations. Although a fiction read, many leaders extrapolate the use of mission command as well as
the leaderships attributes. In this analysis I will be comparing a single event in the novel to the Army s
leadership principles as well as Mission Command. I will then provide a personal reflection and
conclude.
Synopsis
The book generally describes the rise in the ranks of the main protagonist, Sam Damon, from an
enlistee, to NCO, to Officer where he eventually reaches the rank of a division commander. The
setting and time changes, beginning in World War I, the years between the two wars, World War II and
finally a fictionalized Vietnam where Damon is an advisor. Throughout the book Damon is able to rise
in the ranks thanks to political connections, audacity, and willingness. Through time Damon himself
changes, becoming more self oriented, and looses some of his purity (for lack of a better description)
as he rises in the ranks.
The event I will be focusing on is during Damon s earlier years, in WWI. At the time Damon is a NCO
and is in charge of a platoon. It is during the middle years of WWI and Damon and his unit are sent in
as a show of support. They are paraded in

Organic sales growth, that is excluding the effect of acquisitions, divestitures and foreign exchange

demonstrates, the company has shown organic sales growth for the past four fiscal periods, though it
is important to point out that price increases have accounted for the majority of organic sales growth,
and that organic sales are growing at a decreasing rate. FY11 marked the first period since 2009 in
which volume growth was actually positive. However HNZ is not the only company that has seen

The, Snail Fever, And Katayama Fever
1. Describe the causative agent
Schistosomiasis have three different names and these are bilharzia, snail fever, and Katayama fever
(Mawyer, 2013). It is a disease caused by parasites, meaning they live off the living host to survive.
Examples of parasitic organism are viruses, protozoa, and helminthes. They are flatworm or fluke,
known as Schistosomes and they cause Schistosomiasis disease. Schistosoma is the spices name and
Trematoda is the class that the organism falls under. Helminthes is the group or family of Schistosoma
((Keas, 1999). These organisms are facultative anaerobic, and they have the ability to move around in
water and in the host bloodstream. They reproduce sexually and asexually depending on the stage of
development; they are intracellular parasites at the mature stage. They live in water in the immature
state. Schistosomes are flatworm and are different from other worms because they compose of the
female and the male worm. The adult female worm is longer (1.5 2cm) than the male worm (1 1.5cm).
The female worm produces several hundreds of eggs daily to enhance its survival rate. An adult life
span of a Schistosome can go up to 5 to 10 years, so you can image how dangerous this infection is
(Ferrara, 2010).
This organism is eukaryotic, because they are multi celled organisms. They are symmetric on lateral
sides; meaning if you were looking at the right side of a flatworm you will see that both the right and
left sides are the same. They have a

Piave s Tone In Act I Of Rigoletto
This vulnerable tone in Act II comes as a surprise from the playboy character we see in Act I. In Act I
of Rigoletto, Piave emphasizes an apathetic tone in order to reveal the sameness of all women, giving
them lesser value than men. As Borsa and the Duke discuss Ceprano s wife, the Duke declares in his
first aria that this woman or that is the same as the many others [he] see[s] around [him] (I.1). The
author uses this language of commonality with words like same and many in order to help the
audience understand the nonchalant tone. Piave reveals that the Duke thinks of women as disposable

This generalization erases the identity of all women. He sees women as physically attractive but he
does not see them as continuously captivating. Toward the middle of the aria, the Duke emphasizes the
sameness of women saying, If today this woman pleases me, perhaps tomorrow it will be another
(I.1). The general, unspecific terms the Duke gives in this sentence structure such as this woman and
another reveals a calm, indifferent tone. The Duke does not name a specific woman or even a name
eliminating their unique qualities. Piave depicts women as disposable and easily replaceable in the
Duke s eyes. In other words, they are attractive and entertaining for a moment but, after a little while
they cease to be useful. Lastly, at the end of the aria, the Duke emphasizes the unimportance of
women declaring that There is no love, if there is no freedom. He deride[s] the jealous fury of
husbands, and the ravings of lovers (I.1). To consolidate his point, the Duke, in a logical manner,
explains that love is freedom and he has no desire to be bound to a specific woman. He ridicules men
who become jealous and try to restrain him from being with their

The Major Problem With Nhst Essay
The Major Problem With NHST
Kirk (1996) had major criticisms of NHST. According to Kirk, the procedure does not tell researchers
what they want to know: In scientific inference, what we want to know is the probability that the null
hypothesis (H0) is true given that we have obtained a set of data (D); that is, p(H0|D). What null
hypothesis significance testing tells us is the probability of obtaining these data or more extreme data
if the null hypothesis is true, p(D|H0). (p. 747) Kirk (1996) went on to explain that NHST was a trivial
exercise because the null hypothesis is always false, and rejecting it is merely a matter of having
enough power. In this study, we investigated how textbooks treated this major problem of NHST.
Current best practice in this area is open to debate (e.g., see Harlow, Mulaik, Steiger, 1997). A number
of prominent researchers advocate the use of confidence intervals in place of NHST on grounds that,
for the most part, confidence intervals provide more information than a significance test and still
include information necessary to determine statistical significance (Cohen, Gliner, Leech, Morgan 85
1994; Kirk, 1996). For those who advocate the use of NHST, the null hypothesis of no difference (nil
hypothesis) should be replaced by a null hypothesis specifying some nonzero value based on previous
research (Cohen, 1994; Mulaik, Raju, Harshman, 1997). Thus, there would be less chance that a trivial
difference between intervention and control

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Essay
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, normally abbreviated as ADHD, is a disorder in which a
person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking and has
trouble sitting still. This condition may begin in early childhood and continue into adulthood. Without
treatment ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work and any social gatherings.
The disorder sparks up many controversies for the simple fact that the exact cause is not clear or more
over not well understood. Because of the lack of information of how ADHD is caused, the most
common controversy that this disorder brings is that many people believe that the disorder is not a
realistic diagnosis because of the increasingly number of children ... Show more content on

What are the different types of ADHD?
There are three main types of ADHD. They are the primarily inattentive type, primarily hyperactive
impulsive type and the combined type. A child with the inattentive type fails to pay attention to details
and gets easily distracted and tends to daydream on a day to day basis. On the other hand the
hyperactive impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly this child would
jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD is the combined
type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and inattention and
distraction.
Causes of ADHD
Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in
an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. Researchers who
study the brain are coming closer to understanding what may cause ADHD. They believe that some
people with ADHD don t have enough of certain chemicals, called neurotransmitter, in the brain.
These chemicals help the brain control behavior. However the exact or precise cause of the disorder
remains unknown.
Diagnosis
When diagnosing ADHD, there is no single test itself that can determine it. Deciding if a child has the
disorder is a several step process, which requires the attention of different professionals as well as
those surrounding the child on a daily basis. A pediatrician,

Abstract The movie Erin Brockovich (2000) depicts one of the most recognized cases of toxic tort
cases in the United States. According to an article in Entertainment Editors a toxic tort is a special type
of personal injury lawsuit in which the plaintiff claims that exposure to a chemical caused the plaintiff

The breakthrough came in the form of a former employee who tells Erin that he while he was working
at the plant he was ordered to destroy many of the old documents, however he kept some of them and
turned them over. The documents included memos from the PG E corporate office to the Hinkley
plant, establishing that corporate officers has knowledge of the illegal dumping of contaminated water
into those unlined pools (tcm web site). The Law firm won the case in the end with the verdict that
Pacific Gas Energy had to compensate the plaintiffs in the amount of $333 million for damages
(cornell.edu web site). Erin Brokovich was presented with a check for $2 million for all her efforts,
and continues to work on cases involving peoples who have been victimized by large corporations.
Attorney Ed Masry, of the law firm Masry and Vititoe served as a city councilman at the beginning of
2000, and served as major of Thousand Oaks for one year; he died December 5, 2008 at a hospital in
Thousands Oaks (New York Times web site). One would think the story has ended here, yet there is
more to come. The Associated Press reported on April 4, 2008 that there were other law suits
involving PG E and approximately 1100 residents from Kings, Riverside, and San Bernardino
counties. The last suit was finally settled in March 2008 for $20 million (SF Gate web site).

The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
History tells us that it has been a long road to liberty and a continual fight for civil rights for those
with disabilities. One of the most influential times for change in the lives of disabled Americans
occurred during the 1960s and 1970s, and became know as the Disability Rights Movement.
Structured Inequality/Rationale: After the world wars and Vietnam War, there were many disabled
American veterans who faced challenges and prejudice they had not experienced before. Alongside
those fighting in the Civil Rights Movement were disabled veterans and other people with disabilities.
They too were fighting against inequalities and discrimination. The Disability Rights Movement
occurred due to several issues rooted in structured inequalities. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was an
example of inequality built into legislation as it prohibited discrimination based on race, color,
religion, or national origin (Cornell), but did not address discrimination based on disabilities.
Inaccessibility and negative societal views excluded those with disabilities from their rights. There
was a need for a policy written specifically for the protection of persons with disabilities. Structured
inequality in the U.S. economy was evident in occupational segregation and discrimination (Aguirre
Baker, 1999). Such was the case for Judy Heumann, a disabled college graduate who, in 1970, was
denied a teaching license from the state of New York because she failed a medical examination

Goldfish Monologue
You know, you truly are an amazing person. You are one with a great many talents and skills, ranging
from your intelligence to your creativity. The work you have accomplished in life is awe inspiring,
especially with your art pieces. Throughout the time we had known each other, we have shared many
adventures and many conversations (though... mostly things relating to anime...). Still, I find those
moments with you to be some of the best in my life. While you have a very free spirited and playful
attitude, there are times where you can be very sincere. You have always impressed me on how well
you are able to assess/interpret situations, then acting accordingly to resolve it. You are one who uses a
rational and logical approach when solving the problems presented to you; from what I can tell, you
always come up with the best solutions. Indeed, I view you as a very wise and intelligent mentor.
Whenever I sought advice, I had often relied on you. You had always answered to my calls, regardless
of how trivial or serious the subject was (you especially helped me on matters with regards to Nancy,
but I could tell you were having fun). While you do pick on me from time to time, it has always been

To Kill A Mockingbird Courage
Courage is a difficult thing for people to do in real life. Some people may say courage is people who
have strong bodies and hearts. The others would say it is someone who tells the truth instead of
avoiding it. In To Kill A Mockingbird courage is presented by standing up to your fears and helping
people that need help. Early in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem shows courage by
touching Boo Radley s porch. In the waning moonlight I saw Him swing his feet to the floor. I m
going after them he said. I sat upright, you can t I won t let you. He was struggling into his shirt, I ve
got to. You do and i ll wake Atticus. You do and i ll kill you. Jem lost his pants on the Radley fence by
making a raid on the property in the hope of catching a glimpse of Boo from the back window of the
Radley House. Atticus would demand to see the pants the next morning, so Jem knew he had to get
them back. He also didn t want to lose Atticus s trust in him, or be punished further. This is an
example of curage because Jem knew if he didn t show Atticus the pants the next morning Atticus

Dubose demonstrates another kind of courage. Atticus tells Jem I wanted you to see what real courage
is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re

but sometimes you do. Here is an old woman who, we discover, is addicted to morphine. She is rude,
and prejudiced; however, she also has a kind of inner strength which enables her to kick a long time
addiction in order to die free. It is very courages of Jem to read to and abusive person like Mrs.

Commercial Truck Drivers Research Paper
Vehicles are an iconic, essential part of American culture. For goods to be shipped between states,
commercial truck drivers have to have vehicles that can carry massive amounts of products.
Unfortunately, these trucks are not held to the same standard as personal trucks. Weak federal
regulations and profit driven manufacturers put profits over safety for truck drivers. As a result,
commercial vehicles do not have the same safety requirements as personal vehicles.
A large commercial truck can easily weigh 20 times as much as a passenger car. If a commercial truck
crashes into a small passenger car, the small vehicle will be completely crushed. This problem is
worsened by the fact that many drivers are tired and trying to beat the deadline.

There are several cases, notably that of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, where racial tensions in the workplace sparked hatred and resentment. Alison Parker and Adam Ward were murdered by Vester Flanagan, a coworker of theirs. As for why, The Louisiana Weekly states that Vester sued his former employer for racial discrimination, but the claim fell through. While his reasons do not justify his actions, racial discrimination is just as intolerable, especially in the workplace. Having to deal with his growing opposition and the embarrassing defeats Tsar Nicholas II faced in World War I, the Tsar was left with no choice but to abdicate his throne and get replaced by the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government however failed to disengage from WWI or resolve the economic downfall that resulted from the collapse of the old order. Due to these failures the Provisional Government also broke down and were unable to bring Russia back to the functioning democracy it once was. Unlike the Provisional Government which lacked support and authority, he made sure there were internal conflicts between the Bolsheviks, in turn creating a ruthless political party. Even though he had the leadership qualities that lead the Bolsheviks to victory, it should be remembered Lenin only returned to Russia after the February Revolution, therefore making the fall of the tsarist regime and the Provisional Government taking control prerequisites for the Bolsheviks rise to power in 1917. This study was based on the quantitative constructivist approach. It was done using both cross sectional and longitudinal design to determine the effects of Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) on student performance outcomes. PASS is a voluntary student lead preventative intervention for difficult and demanding tertiary courses. The authors demonstrated the impact of the relationship between peer academic engagement and its effects on student s identity, attendance and their belief of self efficacy. The outcome of their findings demonstrated that students who participated in the PASS study had increased self efficacy and increased confidence in their performance academically, in comparison to their first semester of college. After watching the film it can be concluded that there is an unambiguous portrayal of Jews being responsible for Jesus death. There is no question throughout the film about who is responsible for the crucifixion because of the nasty portrayal of the Jewish people and Roman soldiers. At every opportunity, Gibson s reinforces the notion that the Jewish high priest and the Jewish followers are the ones ultimately responsible for the Crucifixion through the language and wording used and the constant display of their hatful actions towards Jesus, for those reasons the film is anti Jewish. The problem with Gibson use of stereotypes is any viewer who has little to no background in the gospels or understanding of the crucifixion, will see the Jewish people has completely involved in Jesus final hours of being tortured and murdered. Also having a negative approach towards the Jewish people in the film will also push any induvial who already blames the Jews for Jesus death even further, creating more anti sematic movements. In creating the movie Gibson, being a biblical literalist, picked parts from all four gospels, which allowed for more options in shaping the film because each gospel has a similar but different view. Gibson also used outside research to help the film. It also should be noted that Mecklenburg County is a highly political environment, with the political majority of the board of county commissioners open to change in virtually every two year election. Changes in the elected majority are often accompanied by swings in political priorities, resulting in changes in funding for services. However, prior to 2001, there was no consistent model used for making decisions based on priorities. This resulted in a very unstable and non sustainable approach to achieving desired results. Essentially, the community and County staff seemed to be experienced alternating between two diametrically opposed views. On one hand was the view that county government could be all things to all people; the other philosophy was that there is never a good reason to raise taxes. With this backdrop, County Manager Harry Jones, appointed by the Board in October 2000, sought to develop a model and structure for decision making that could be sustained regardless of economic conditions or political ideology. Based on the information provided in the case it was certainly possible for Kodak to have become the leader in consumer digital photography if they had followed the actions described below. Kodak s top management and its internal research team had anticipated the threat from the digital photography to their film photography business way back in 1980s. In fact, Kodak introduced the world s first electronic image sensor, which is the most crucial component of the digital photography. They also had developed numerous patented technologies in digital photography by 1989, many of which are built into the digital cameras today. Despite this strong hold on intellectual properties in core digital photography technologies, Kodak succumbed to new entrants in consumer digital photography due to several intrinsic management flaws in its technology innovation and adoption strategies that were certainly avoidable. Kodak should have leveraged its numerous patented technologies to gain the first mover advantage in digital photography, instead of waiting until 1990s to release its first digital camera. In the early adoption stage, Kodak should have strongly emphasized on product development and manufacturing capabilities for a first generation, cost effective, and marketable digital camera irrespective of its quality and appeal to their consumers. It expresses how self deception can lead to delusion and the ultimate destruction of personal dreams. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis and his gang are Greaser s, meaning they have little to no money. As the text progresses, Ponyboy is getting judged because of his social class. Ponyboy is having a hard time fitting in with the people around him. One theme evident in The Outsiders is, you should never think you are better than anyone because of your social class. In the beginning of the novel, the Soc s think they are better than the Greaser s because of their social class. In chapter 3 of the text, Ponyboy states, Soc s had so much spare time and money they jumped us and each other for kicks, had beer blasts and river bottom parties because they did not know what else to do ... Whether they fight or not the groups will still judge each other and be in different social classes. In the latter part of the novel, the Soc s and the Greaser s know they shouldn t judge but they still do. In chapter 9, Ponyboy states, They used to be buddies, I thought, they used to be friends, and now they hate each other because one has to work for a living and the other comes from the West Side (122). After Agamemnon insulting Achilles by having his men take Achilles prize award (King Priam s daughter), Achilles contemplated if he should take revenge on the topic but sat on the shore line instead to think it over. • 28. Siegfried vs Beowulf Essay examples Any relations in a social order will endure, if there is infused into them some of that spirit of human sympathy which qualifies life for immortality. George William Russell Homer defines a hero as one who acquires and maintains honor through victory in battle while embracing a highly individualistic attitude. Homer s epic warriors were self interested in order to preserve their honor and to acquire fame the currency used by the hero to achieve immortality. Heroes of this archetype often show a neglectful disregard for the lives of their warriors and supporting cast. This is symptomatic of their obsession with acquiring honor over building relationships (Dunkle). But how can a hero protect his fame ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following the structure of the Homeric hero, Beowulf s only concern is becoming king and dying gloriously in battle to get into Valhalla, a heaven reserved for the brave warriors who died fighting in combat. He is so blinded by his goals that he discounts the well being of his men. This is exemplified in the scene where Beowulf recounts his battle with Grendel to King Hrothgar. He fails to mention that one of his men played the role of the sacrificial lamb, while the others assisted in defeating the beast the whole process was a joint effort. However, for the 20 lines of his recount, he emphasizes how pleased he is with Grendel writhing from pain, beaten by his bare hands (Heaney line 957 977). He is insinuating that he alone is responsible for the creature s death. The only time the martyr is mentioned is when the chieftain gifting Beowulf s men reveals that one man s daring prevented the doom [of killing more of the men] (Heaney line 1056). This episode suggests that Beowulf is indifferent to the deaths of even those who are supposedly closest to him, as he remains emotionally undamaged while boasting about his defeat. His lack of sympathy disables him from creating a substantial bridge between him and his men. Siegfried, on the other hand, desires human interaction. Unlike Beowulf, he has an affinity for securing his relationships with others by developing strong loyalties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Especially in high school, living with ADHD is extremely challenging because students have a harder time concentrating during class, understanding the material given to them, or even taking tests and doing homework unlike other students. It seems the school system, and even society judges students based on what level they are on. For example if a student has straight A s in honors classes, that student would get all the praise, while a student who has average or lower grades in regular classes, that student would be ignored, get ridiculed or sometimes considered irrelevant. The unique style of her poems has caused many to ponder at her works, but is nevertheless monumental. In the poem Some keep the Sabbath going to Church , Dickinson uses dashes to emphasize her points. The dashes also cause the reader to stop which allows for a unique rhythm in the poem. Many a time nurse practitioners find themselves in ethical dilemmas about what to do in certain situations and tend to follow their instincts as the best course of action to pursue, and this could help to either solve the problematic issue or land them into problems. I tend to think this is the main reason why the nurses code of ethics was developed to act as a guide during such difficult situations. There are four ethical principles that must be put into consideration by nurse practitioners while offering care for patients. They include the following: respect for autonomy, non maleficence, beneficence, and justice (Beauchamp Childress, 2013). The principle of autonomy sometimes is described as respect for autonomy (Beauchamp Childress, 2013). Respect for autonomy is one of the guiding principles of ethics where the nurse practitioner expected to explain the care plan that he or she intends to offer to the patient and give the patient a chance to decide for himself/herself on what he/she thinks will work best. This is also known as a right to self determination, and the patient is given this chance after all critical information is availed to him or her (Aitamaa Kilpi, 2015). It is a disease caused by parasites, meaning they live off the living host to survive. Examples of parasitic organism are viruses, protozoa, and helminthes. They are flatworm or fluke, known as Schistosomes and they cause Schistosomiasis disease. Schistosoma is the spices name and Trematoda is the class that the organism falls under. Helminthes is the group or family of Schistosoma ((Keas, 1999). These organisms are facultative anaerobic, and they have the ability to move around in water and in the host bloodstream. They reproduce sexually and asexually depending on the stage of development; they are intracellular parasites at the mature stage. They live in water in the immature state. Schistosomes are flatworm and are different from other worms because they compose of the female and the male worm. The adult female worm is longer (1.5 2cm) than the male worm (1 1.5cm). The female worm produces several hundreds of eggs daily to enhance its survival rate. An adult life span of a Schistosome can go up to 5 to 10 years, so you can image how dangerous this infection is (Ferrara, 2010). This organism is eukaryotic, because they are multi celled organisms. • 42. The Major Problem With Nhst Essay The Major Problem With NHST Kirk (1996) had major criticisms of NHST. According to Kirk, the procedure does not tell researchers what they want to know: In scientific inference, what we want to know is the probability that the null hypothesis (H0) is true given that we have obtained a set of data (D); that is, p(H0|D). What null hypothesis significance testing tells us is the probability of obtaining these data or more extreme data if the null hypothesis is true, p(D|H0). (p. 747) Kirk (1996) went on to explain that NHST was a trivial exercise because the null hypothesis is always false, and rejecting it is merely a matter of having enough power. In this study, we investigated how textbooks treated this major problem of NHST. Current best practice in this area is open to debate (e.g., see Harlow, Mulaik, Steiger, 1997). A number of prominent researchers advocate the use of confidence intervals in place of NHST on grounds that, for the most part, confidence intervals provide more information than a significance test and still include information necessary to determine statistical significance (Cohen, Gliner, Leech, Morgan 85 1994; Kirk, 1996). For those who advocate the use of NHST, the null hypothesis of no difference (nil hypothesis) should be replaced by a null hypothesis specifying some nonzero value based on previous research (Cohen, 1994; Mulaik, Raju, Harshman, 1997). Thus, there would be less chance that a trivial difference between intervention and control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand the hyperactive impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly this child would jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD is the combined type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and inattention and distraction. Causes of ADHD Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. The nurse and ER doctor failed to recognize how the medications react by relaxing the skeletal muscles, compromising Mr. B s lung expansion. Since Mr. B could not walk around to expand his lungs, he could have benefited from bronchodilator treatments or supplemental oxygen. When the LPN addressed the low oxygen alarm by resetting the alarm and leaving the room, she neglected to assess Mr. B and failed to perform her duties as a nurse. ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEMS 3 Change Theory The employees, such as Nurse J and the LPN need to be advised that they did not adequatley carefor Mr B by not assessing him properly upon his arrival, and not calling the respiratory department for additional help when his respiratory status was in question. Informing the LPN that she failed to assess and care for her patient when the low oxygen alarm was set off would be unacceptable in the employee s performance. Clear warnings to correct their performance deficiencies will result in adverse consequences. Identifying the problem or the skill the employee lacks in by being specific will help address the problem. An established expectation would be defined in the area of performance that needs to be changed with a clear list in writing. • 46. The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 History tells us that it has been a long road to liberty and a continual fight for civil rights for those with disabilities. One of the most influential times for change in the lives of disabled Americans occurred during the 1960s and 1970s, and became know as the Disability Rights Movement. Structured Inequality/Rationale: After the world wars and Vietnam War, there were many disabled American veterans who faced challenges and prejudice they had not experienced before. Alongside those fighting in the Civil Rights Movement were disabled veterans and other people with disabilities. They too were fighting against inequalities and discrimination. The Disability Rights Movement occurred due to several issues rooted in structured inequalities. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was an example of inequality built into legislation as it prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin (Cornell), but did not address discrimination based on disabilities. Inaccessibility and negative societal views excluded those with disabilities from their rights. There was a need for a policy written specifically for the protection of persons with disabilities. Structured inequality in the U.S. economy was evident in occupational segregation and discrimination (Aguirre Baker, 1999). Such was the case for Judy Heumann, a disabled college graduate who, in 1970, was denied a teaching license from the state of New York because she failed a medical examination (Patterson, ... Still, I find those moments with you to be some of the best in my life. While you have a very free spirited and playful attitude, there are times where you can be very sincere. You have always impressed me on how well you are able to assess/interpret situations, then acting accordingly to resolve it. You are one who uses a rational and logical approach when solving the problems presented to you; from what I can tell, you always come up with the best solutions. Indeed, I view you as a very wise and intelligent mentor. Whenever I sought advice, I had often relied on you. You had always answered to my calls, regardless of how trivial or serious the subject was (you especially helped me on matters with regards to Nancy, but I could tell you were having fun). While you do pick on me from time to time, it has always been in a more light hearted and playful fashion. Though, I will say that at times, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. To Kill A Mockingbird Courage Courage is a difficult thing for people to do in real life. Some people may say courage is people who have strong bodies and hearts. The others would say it is someone who tells the truth instead of avoiding it. In To Kill A Mockingbird courage is presented by standing up to your fears and helping people that need help. Early in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem shows courage by touching Boo Radley s porch. In the waning moonlight I saw Him swing his feet to the floor. I m going after them he said. I sat upright, you can t I won t let you. He was struggling into his shirt, I ve got to. You do and i ll wake Atticus. You do and i ll kill you. Jem lost his pants on the Radley fence by making a raid on the property in the hope of catching a glimpse of Boo from the back window of the Radley House. Atticus would demand to see the pants the next morning, so Jem knew he had to get them back. He also didn t want to lose Atticus s trust in him, or be punished further. This is an example of curage because Jem knew if he didn t show Atticus the pants the next morning Atticus would had been really mad, so he decided to go back for ... Atticus tells Jem I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. Here is an old woman who, we discover, is addicted to morphine. She is rude, and prejudiced; however, she also has a kind of inner strength which enables her to kick a long time addiction in order to die free. • 49. Commercial Truck Drivers Research Paper Vehicles are an iconic, essential part of American culture. For goods to be shipped between states, commercial truck drivers have to have vehicles that can carry massive amounts of products. Unfortunately, these trucks are not held to the same standard as personal trucks. Weak federal regulations and profit driven manufacturers put profits over safety for truck drivers. As a result, commercial vehicles do not have the same safety requirements as personal vehicles. A large commercial truck can easily weigh 20 times as much as a passenger car. If a commercial truck crashes into a small passenger car, the small vehicle will be completely crushed. This problem is worsened by the fact that many drivers are tired and trying to beat the deadline. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
