The document provides step-by-step instructions for creating a contents page for a music magazine called Note. It describes adding design elements like a masthead with the magazine title, an introductory paragraph from the editor, a featured photo altered in Photoshop, and page numbers down the side listing the articles. It also covers including an advertisement with enlarged text emphasizing key words, and a cover feature on Abbie Field in different fonts with an explanatory sentence. The page is completed with a list of bands and artists featured as requested by the target audience in a questionnaire.
2. I have used InDesign to create my contents
page, however I have also used Photoshop
to alter some of the photos and edit some of
the headings on the page.
I will add place the masthead at the top of
the page written in the same font as the
front cover masthead.
The masthead will have a small image of
the title of the magazine so that its clear the
reader is reading Note magazine and that
they are reading the contents page.
3. I then added a small paragraph that was
written by me as the editor to introduce the
audience and tell them what the magazine is
about and what it will contain, this is good
because it will show the reader what they are
to expect when they buy the magazine and
can be sure the news is exclusive and new to
the music industry.
4. I have then added a photo of one of my main
features in the magazine. I have altered the
colours, red-eye remover and depth on
Photoshop of the image to make it look more
interesting and exciting to the reader.
I have added a small anchor article so that the
audience know who she is and what they can
expect to read in the article about her.
5. To the left hand side of the page I added the
page numbers and contents of the page down
the side. The numbers are written in large
black bold numbers so the reader is clear as
to what page they will have to go on in order
to find the article they are looking for.
The large number 3 which is placed over the
photo so that it is clear to the reader that they
have to go on to page 3 to find the article on
‘Laura B’
6. To add to my magazine I have added an
advertisement to the contents page and an
image to anchor it down and to add more
interest for the reader.
I used the rectangle tool on InDesign and
changed the colour to fit in with the colour
scheme of the mast head and it is the only big
block of colour on the page to show interest.
I have enlarged the beginning of every
sentence and the £1.50 to emphasise the
price and the key words to show what the
reader will be receiving from subscribing.
7. I then added a main cover line on the
contents page of the main feature inside the
magazine ‘Abbie Field’ on InDesign I coloured
the writing red and outlined it with black to
make it more interesting. The writing is in
different larger, bolder fonts. There is also an
anchor – a short sentence explaining what the
article will be about. ‘Exclusive interview with:’
this adds some excitement for the reader
because they believe they will be reading
something that nobody else has been
reading. The page number is written next to it
to show which page the article is written on.
8. To complete my contents page I added a list
of the bands and artists that will be featured
inside my magazine. The artists I have
included were requested in the questionnaire
that I handed out to my target audience to see
what they want included.
The title of the page is written in a red
rectangle square that I created using the
‘rectangle tool’, the writing is written in large
black font this fits in with the theme of the
magazine.
