The document describes the forms and conventions used in the design of a magazine about grime music. Key elements included a large masthead in red, date lines, coverlines in white on the sides, headlines in a different font, subheadings, price and barcode. On the contents page the masthead is largest, with a date line, title in columns with page numbers and space for photos. The article has a large headline, pull quote, columns, and quotes from an interview broken up by a photo. Conventions are generally followed but some, like the selling line, are adapted for the target audience.
These are my final decisions on the fonts I will use for my music magazine and the colour scheme I will use. There are also my final photos I will use in my magazine.

1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS?
2. My Masthead is the largest text on the page and is
also in a separate color to the other text. Underneath
the masthead is the date line for when the issue was
released. I also have coverlines on both sides of the
magazine in white and a different font so that they
stand out. The headline is bigger text and different
font so that it would catch the readers eye as it stands
out. Under the headline is the sub heading saying
what about ‘skepsis’ is going in the magazine. In the
bottom right corner is the price and barcode.
3. For my contents page again I made the
Masthead the biggest text so that it stands out. I
have included a date line and the title just being
“contents” under the masthead. I have included
band index with the different artists with the
page numbers they are on. I have got the artists
names and the main categories all in columns. I
have used all of the forms and conventions to
make my contents page and have made sure to
consider the position of each form and
convention. I have positioned the text so that
there is space for two pictures next to the
categories on the contents page so it doesn’t
look boring.
4. This is my magazine article. One side of the magazine is the photo shoot image with
a pull quote in the bottom corner. The headline is in the top left corner and is large
text so that it catches the readers eye. Around the side of the text and image is a
margin and at the bottom of the margin is the page numbers. The magazine has two
columns so that it doesn’t look like one boring piece of text. Rather than the use of a
insert image I put another quote in from the interview that I did for the main article.
5. COVER
With my layout I kept it like the normal forms with the title
and masthead being the biggest text on the screen and the
over text being positioned and aligned so that it has a
smooth look. The masthead and title are in differents fonts
and the masthead is red so you see thatfirst but the over text
is still visible as its whites on a dark background and in an
unusual font. The font suits the genre well. I only change one
of the conventions which was the selling line. I did this
because my magazine would only be bought by people who
are interested in the scene and it is the only grime magazine
that would be published in most shops. I didn’t feel that I
needed to include a selling line so instead I just used the
space to make my masthead bigger and stand out more. I
have used different fonts aswell so that the parts of text that
stand out the most are in red and a different font to the
coverlines which still are easily visible as they are white and
in an unusual text.
6. CONTENTS
With the contents I didn’t really change anything and the text
size still is dependent on how important it is to the magazine.
Again the masthead is in red and is the biggest font so that
you see it first but the over text is still in a eye catching font
and has the red numbers next to it to catch the eye. I have
included all of the forms and conventions but have changed
them slightly so that more text is in one area but is still
readable. I did this so that there was space for two pictures
instead of one so that it didn’t just look like loads of text. I
haven’t included any certain graphics because the colour
choice makes the magazine stand out enough and the target
audience would probably not be too interested in graphics.
7. ARTICLE
In my article I have made one page just a picture with two
pieces of eye catching text on it so that the interview on the
other page doesn’t make the whole article look boring. I have
included a pull quote and the headline in the red again to
follow the colour scheme throughout the magazine. I have
included a lot of text but I have broke it up using quotes and
the picture. I decided to do the article as an interview
because its more interesting to read than one whole long
piece of text and through using columns it looks like less
text. I have included a lead in but its not any bigger than the
main text so its more of an introduction to the magazine. I
didn’t use a drop cap either as I didn’t feel it was necessary
for the magazine. I have a margin around the edge through
the use of indesign.
