Matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms and molecules that come together to form solids, liquids, and gases. Solids have a fixed shape and volume, with particles closely packed and held tightly together. Liquids flow to take the shape of their container, with molecules able to move around each other but still experiencing attractive forces. Gases have no fixed shape or volume, with particles moving freely in all directions and experiencing only weak forces between each other.
