Types of Activity Individual Activities Team Activities Directly Competitive = You will have a direct Influence on your opponents game, Badminton, Tennis, Football, Basketball. Indirectly Competitive = You will have no direct contact with your opponents, Athletic events, Trampolining, Gymnastics.

Activities and Time Some competitive activities last a set period of time. There are some activities where the result depends on the time taken. There are some competitive activities where there is no need to keep the time.

Competitive and  Non -Competitive Activities Competitive  means there is a contest involving two or more rivals, you are trying to win. Non – competitive  means taking part in the activity for fun, enjoyments, to improve fitness, a sense of self satisfaction.

SCORING METHODS The outcome of a different team and individual activities are decided by a variety of  objective or subjective  scoring methods. OBJECTIVE = Winning by most goals, most runs, most points, fastest time, furthest throw. Based on fact. SUBJECTIVE = Judges decide on a final mark based on set criteria of that activity, based on opinion. Gymnastics, diving, Ice skating.
CREATIVITY Creativity  – Being creative in an activity to outwit opponent or to score more points than your opponent. Creativity in basketball  = Dodging opponent, faking a pass or shot. Creativity in badminton  = Disguising an overhead clear by slowing racket down and playing a drop shot to land at the front of the court. Creativity in Gymnastics  = Your sequence could 1) Have changes in body shape, 2) Changes in direction, 3) Sudden explosive movement.
TACTICS/STRATEGY Tactics/strategies  – Using your strength to exploit opponent’s weaknesses. Attacking tactic in basketball  – fast break Defending tactic in basketball  – Man to Man and Zone defence Tactic in badminton  = moving your player around the court by playing a variety of shots. Tactic in 1500m race  = 1 player might tuck in behind the leader to protect himself from the wind. Tactic in football  – Creating  width  in attack = using the full playing area to create effective attacks. Creating  depth  in attack = ensuring that players are supported by midfielders, which help to retain possession.
