Short-Term Mate Preferences In Friends With Benefits
Short term mating, or long term mating are two of the most important phases that almost every
human on this earth would have to go through to reproduce and pass on their genes. Short term
mating and long term mating can be studied through the evolution of human behavior. Evolution of
human behavior allows scientists and researchers to look at human s relationships, our interaction
with each other from routine conversations to the most complicated of human s interaction in a
more profound approach. With movies, music, or any other type of media outlets tend to display
lots of subject matter about loveand sex, how the idea of short term mating can lead to successful
long term relationships is absolutely mesmerizing to understand with sexual... Show more content

Until one night, Adam is drunkenly dialing every girl on his phone to look for a hookup, he
somehow ended up at Emma s apartment the next morning not knowing that he had sex with
her. The reason Adam dialed every girl looking for a hook up was because he was exposed to
good looking women at the bar while being intoxicated which can boost his testosterone level
therefore he s more desired to go after any woman. Adam clearly does not care who he hooks up
with at this point since he has no intention of settling in with any of these women that he just called.
Similarly, the reason Emma chooses to have sex with Adam is because Adam is a good looking
guy because he s able to satisfy her with the indirect benefits that he can provide during their short
term mating. Women tend to go for indirect benefits rather than direct benefits while searching for
short term mates. A person s indirect benefits is anything that would genetically help their future
offspring increase its fitness because these indirect benefits may include high quality genes for their
offspring or genes that make their offspring more

Since it has been researched that mass media influences viewers and that children are active
learners, we can assume they are effected by media in their perceptions of the world.
3.0 What is socialization?
Socialization is the process of learning how to behave into a way that is appropriate to our culture,
human infant are born without any culture. Therefore, children must be guide by our parents,
teachers, and mass media to lead the correct moral, social and cultural. This is important in the
process of personality formation, individual experiences to become a unique individual and capable
member of society. Through socialization individuals accept the beliefs, roles, motives, and
behaviours of a certain culture. In short, socialization is the process by which people learn to adopt
the norms, attitudes, and behaviours accepted and practiced by on going system.
3.1 Mass media
Mass media have profound of impact socialization in modern, high income societies or both
children and adults. The media function as socializing agents in several ways: inform us about
events, introduce us to a wide variety of people, provide an array of viewpoints, make us aware of
produce, documentary and entertain us. Sociologists refer to this as a mediated culture where
media reflects and creates the culture.

Why Was Kamehameha Important In History
The prophecy said he would do many great feats, and that is what Kamehameha would do!
Kamehameha is significant to history because he was the King of Hawaii and did many great
things for Hawaii. He was prophesied to do so. He was significant for being the Hawaiian
conqueror, the king who united islands, and even founded the Kamehameha dynasty. He was also
significant for other challenges throughout his life. These are reasons why Kamehameha l is very
significant to history. To start off, Kamehameha l was prophesied to do many feats for Hawaiiand
wanted to and even inherited being king after Kiwala o died. For example, in one of my sources it
says, There were reportedly many prophetic signs that he would be a great leader, including... Show

Hawaiian Islands and founded the Kamehameha dynasty. This evidence proves my statement.
Another example is, He eventually succeeded and went on to take over most the majority of
nearby territories as well. This evidence further shows that he was definitely a conqueror ..and by
1810, Kamehameha became the first king to rule all the Hawaiian Islands. This evidence further
shows that he was a king/ruler and united and ruled all the islandsIn conclusion, Kamehameha did
many achievements when becoming the inherited ruler of Hawaii and it s islands.
ThirdlyKamehameha was also significant in history because of his challenges throughout his life
and all the other extra things he did.During his reign, he governed following kapu, an ancient
system of rules and laws. This shows that not only did he conquer places and people, he made
sure citizens had fair laws. He also established new principles, including mamalahoe kanawai, or
law of the splintered paddle. This law, which protected the defenseless as well as

Cape Cod Erosion
Cape Cod, a little arm that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, is a popular destination all year
round but especially in the Summer for beachgoers. Cape Cod was formed about 18,000 years ago
when the glaciers started to melt, but how was it formed? It formed through a process called
weathering and erosion. Weathering is the process of wearing away or changing the appearance or
texture of (something) by long exposure to the water, wind, and even ice. Erosion is the process
that takes the results of weathering away by water, wind, or other natural processes. The sediment
was picked up by the glaciers and slowly eroded down towards Cape Cod. As the glaciers moved
south, the warmer weather began to melt the glaciers and they dumped their load of sediment to
form Cape Cod. In total, 3 glaciers formed Cape Cod. The middle lobe retreated first leaving
behind sediment that created the middle part of the arm (the bicep). Next the easternmost lobe
retreated and the sediment it left behind created the upper part of the arm (Provincetown). When
the last glaciers melted about 18,000 years ago leaving behind an usual looking landform. Today,
scientists know that the glaciers brought the sediment because they are all different colors, textures,
and all have different layers.
A big problem in Cape Cod is beach erosion. The first reason why the beaches are eroding is
because of rock jetties. Rock jetties that separate beaches interrupt the natural transfer of sand by the
tides and wind. The

Holden s Teenage Life
Teenage life is known to be full of anxiety and problems, ripe with angst and development. All
adults have gone through it, but it is still a often overlooked aspect of life. J. D. Salinger s novel
The Catcher in the Rye details a taste of troubled teenage life. This novel is a noteworthy classic,
lending towards the author s refusal to have the book digitalized in any way. The book itself is
about the 16 year old Holden Caulfield, a teen in the big city of New York, with a lot of
problems. This novel goes a long way to showing how difficult it can be to grow up, and how it
is critical to have good relationships with others to make it through. One of the primary effects
on Holden s teenage life is the loss of his brother, which is not mentioned until later in the story,
where Holden mentions how descriptive his brother Allie s mitt is, stating he had poems written
all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere He wrote them on it so that he d have
something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He s dead now. This quote
is especially interesting because it is stated in a present tense style, while most of the story is in
past tense. This goes to show how much of an impact this particular event has had on Holden s
teenage life, clearly having a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Beyond this he has a deep seated belief that everyone at all the schools he s gone to, are all
phonies. He believes they are all fake, and this belief makes it extremely difficult for Holden to
make connections with others. Throughout the story we see Holden desperately attempting to
make connections with others. We can see that when he fails to make any real connections, that he
actually goes through a large amount of depression. We get the idea that Holden s emotional beliefs
and pains only further his

Essay On Partisan Animosity
Why do political candidates, like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, sacrifice their morals and
alter the moral fabric of society by using dirty tricks and maneuvers, twisting the truth, and telling
outright lies? Partisan animosity has escalated to the point where, the simple two word comment,
a pen (Brandon), by a 14 year old, sparked an attack filled with vicious name calling and
animosity. Such is the case with Gabe Fleisher from Missouri, who posted the two word comment
as a response to the following tweet posted by Donald Trump, a billionaire businessman, and
Republican presidential candidate: Why is this reporter touching me as I leave news conference?
What is in her hand?? (Brandon).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, they are the norm, rather than the exception. The election of 1800 between Thomas
Jefferson and John Adams is one such campaign. Jefferson, through the use of James Callender,
a pamphleteer who was one of his supporters, used one of the oldest tricks against Adams:
spreading outright lies about his opponent. Callender alleged that Adams wanted to go to war
with France and also depicted him as a hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force of
a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman. (Freeman). Reputation soiled and
credibility destroyed, Adams was no match for Jefferson, who ended up winning the election.
Another example of a contentious presidential campaign occurred in 1964. Barry Goldwater was
running as the Republican nominee and had his campaign slogan, In your heart, you know he s
right. was altered by his Democratic foes into In your guts, you know he s nuts. (Kertscher). The
implication of mental instability did not do Goldwater any favors, and he ended up losing the
election. At times, the animosity and vitriol are such that physical violence has occurred, as is the
case of U.S. Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts. In 1856, three days after giving a speech
which criticized pro slavery southerners, Sumner was beaten on the Senate floor by U.S.
Representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina. As a result of the severe beating, Sumner was
not able to return to the Senate for three years (Freeman). These are but three examples of the
plethora of incidents caused when candidates or elected officials engage in sharply polarizing
discourse in the pursuit of their own

A Brief Note On Animal And Horse Training

Animals Horse Training Seriously, Socrates?
Baylee Vaughn
Reality and Human Existence
Dr.
18 November 2016 In cross examining Meletus in ?The Apology? Socrates draws an analogy
between the training of horses and the moral education of the young. Seriously, a man having the
intelligence that has been attributed to Socrates, used this analogy to sway members of the jury of
his peers that would decide his guilt or innocence, and ultimately his life or death? To help the
reader understand my belief that Socrates reference to horses does not help his defense, but in fact,
helped convict him, one must understand the many different references to horses and horse
trainers. The first reference to animals by Socrates in ?The Apology? when he states that he met
Callias who was rumored to spend more money on Sophists than anyone else and asks him the
question if his sons were animals?colts or calves?a horse breeder of farmer could be engaged to
make them excel. (The Apology 20b). This statement he recounted was trying to convince the jury
that he did not charge fees while those did. So, he was innocent because he groomed for free? To
evaluate the second reference, this direct quote from Socrates: ?You condemn me to a great
misfortune. Tell me does this also apply to horses do you think? That all men improve them and
one individual corrupts them? Or is quite the contrary true, one individual is able to improve them,
or very few,

1. Why is Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loans? (V)
Why might it make sense for Citigroup to SELL this loan portfolio? Banks would normally be
able to absorb a few billion dollars of bridge loans on their balance sheet BUT the issue lies in the
systemic nature of the underwriting risk.
In 2008, banks were under pressure to sell the assets on their books more broadly.
Like many others, Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and write downs and was facing
the prospect of having even more considerable losses. (See Case pp. 2 3.)
Because bridge loans are not intended to be

La palabra decisiГіn

Stereotypes In Disney Fairytale Movies
Beauty If you did not grow up watching Disney fairytale movies, what did you watch for the first
decade of your life? Movies like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid have
captured the attention of young children since the mid twentieth century. A child s opinion on
gender roles and behaviors has been strengthened by Disney movies. Most young girls believe
their lives will be incomplete without a man to protect them from all evils. Women have always
felt inferior to men due to society s interpretation of them in major motion pictures and
advertisements. Society has started to realize its mistake on judging women and their ability to be
independent by giving women more inspiring and uplifting roles in movies. A movie which does
not focus as much on the typical stereotype of women would be the 1991 Disney fairytale classic
known as Beauty and the Beast. This romantic fairytale does not identify women as powerless, but
instead starts a positive trend of independence and intelligence. Beauty and the Beast wants viewers
to realize the importance of inner beauty rather than external beauty, but still emphasizes gender
inequality through the script and various songs. As any other Disney fairytale animation, the main
character is a young and beautiful woman. Belles name literally means beauty. Disney reinforces
the ideal form of beauty through Belle s tiny figure, blue eyes and brown hair. Her soft voice is
accompanied by the ability to sing beautifully. Women are

1984 Mind Control Analysis
In our modern world we don t often think about the possibility that somebody could potentially
gain control of our minds. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a
fact. In the book 1984 as well as in real life mind control proves to be a key technique in gaining
power and control over people.
In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping
the way they think. They don t want their people to obey their rules because of fear or a sense of
duty, rather they want the people to wholeheartedly believe in the government. Using mind control
techniques the ingsoc government transforms its people into beings who cannot think on their own,
but need guidance for every part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in
1984. However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way.
People such as marines go into the program believing that they will just be taught how to protect
their country, but the disciplinary measures they go through often consist of mind control. They are
expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking.
These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following.
All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full
control over their own minds. However most of the examples provided in Captive Minds are quite
different than the methods in 1984 in the fact that they aren t brutally forced. In Canada we don t
have to spend our days worrying that someone will force us into joining a mind washing cult. The
only thing we have to do is avoid joining organizations or groups with blind faith by finding out
what they are about

Chin A Country Of Tremendous Importance Essay
History of China is a long and complex. China is a country of tremendous importance. From the
origins of the Chinese Empire, all the way to the present day, China has been one of the most
innovative, influential, and powerful countries in the world. China in particular has an incredibly
rich and unique historical heritage and history. Like many other ancient societies Chinese society
began along a river, was based on agriculture, and developed trade networks and large cities.
China s geography is quite interesting, the textbook refers to it as a study in contrast. The west
and southwest are mountainous and bleak. The north is arid and barren, dominated by the Gobi
abd Mongolian Plateau. Despite these harsh and uninviting regions. This did not prevent
connections with other cultures. Eastern China is defined by two major rivers. In the South is
the Yangzi river, because of the positive traits of the Yangzi river the terrain is lush, ideal for
farming. In the North however, is the yellow river, the brownish yellow silt is responsible for
both its name and color. The yellow river is shallow and flows through flat plains, with frequent
floods, naturally harsh and cold. However, the brownish yellow soil deposited on surrounding
lands by periodic floods, the rich silt restores the soils fertility. Farming came early to this area, as
early as 7000 B.C.E, a necessity to sustain the growing population, in addition because the yellow

The Evil in Fairytales
The Evil in Fairytales These stories are suffused with the same purity that makes children appear
so marvelous and blessed. Wilhelm Grimm, preface to Nursery and Household Tales Many
adults are hardly prepared for the graphic descriptions of murder, mutilation, cannibalism,

The Hard Facts about the Grimm s Fairy Tales Introduction Children all over the world listen to
fairytales every night at bedtime and hear colorful stories about evil witches, goblins,
hobgoblins and other terrible creatures of the night. Indeed, the some of the most famous
fairytales by the Brothers Grimm are filled with evil creatures that are out to do humankind
harm. Moreover, many of the stories in fairytales do not contain the watered down version of
evil that is depicted by many Disney type productions in modern media but rather describe the
real thing where people can suffer and even die as a result of their contact with the evil creatures
in fairytales. Some authorities even argue that fairytales can be disturbing for young readers, but
most seem to agree that the good triumphs over evil themes in fairytales make them timeless and
appropriate for everyone. To gain some fresh insights in this area, this paper provides a review of

Essay On Resumes
My process for choosing the top two resumes featured a series of steps to eliminate people in
groups until I had a shorter list to choose from. First, I eliminated any resumes that were turned
in late. Deadlines are extremely important when turning in a resume to an employer and I did
not believe it was fair to look at a resume that were turned in late when others had been turned in
on time. Next, I went through the resumes based on their educational information. I looked at
where the candidate placed their information, if they listed their GPA, and if they were part of

best resume, but there were times when I looked at some resumes twice when I should have
eliminated them sooner. While rational choice is the way to find the very best solution, it s
impossible for me as a human to do follow such an approach, but through my process I still
believe I picked good candidates for the positions. When looking at someone s resumes, it is
easy to fall into emotional traps that can lead towards the wrong choice. For example, it is
extremely easy to judge a resume based on the first impression it gives, such as a bad layout, or a
hard to read formatting. The primary effect bias does not give the resume a fair change because
it is toss aside before you look closer at any of the true details it provides. You can also falsely
judge a resume if some of the details match your own life or personality. This like me bias often
leads to someone awarding a resume extra points just because the candidate volunteers for the same
organization, has the same major, or is from the same home town. You can also get caught choosing
a resume based on the recency bias, meaning

PICOT QUESTIONS
ON OXYGENATION EBS Process Question
Within a community of residing adults, what is the effectiveness of hands only CPR compared with
the hands used together with breathing CPR when trying to prevent mortality?
PICOT Problem Statement
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in community residing adults using hands only CPR versus
breathing and hand use CPR are both useful when trying to avoid death if the people involved are
fully aware of the precautions and steps to take while undertaking the process.
Patient and Clinical Problems
Patients who are suffering from cardiac arrests and neurologic outcomes have a high chance of
needing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Efficient use of both hands only CPR versus breathing and
hand use CPR may improve their survival chances and boost their neurologic outcomes when they
undergo any form of an attack. The hands only CPR versus breathing and hand use CPR training
programs assist nurses, and the public on the treatment criteria to efficiently handle patients with
cardiac arrests emergencies, resulting in an increase of the cardiac arrests survival rates for many
patients across the world (Lamboy Donohue, 2015).
The hands only CPR versus breathing and hand use CPR involves the nurses or an individual doing
chest compressions, in addition to artificial ventilation that is used to sustain the circulatory flow of
blood and the oxygenation of the lungs during the cardiac arrests. Hands only CCR involves only

Restricting Communism with the Marshall Plan
The source in question is an extract from the United States Secretary of State George C. Marshall
s commencement speech for receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University; it was
delivered on the 5th of June, 1947 at Harvard University.
The speech was created primarily Charles Bohlen, a Soviet expert and Marshall s special assistant,
and later revised by Marshall. Department officials, including George Kennan and William Clayton
saw the Marshall Plan as a way of restricting Communist growth in Europe, by strengthening the
struggling democratic European nations . After the end of WWII in 1945, the majority of Europe
was in ruins; over a third of the European industry was destroyed by the war, resulting in weak
economies, and millions of people unemployed and starving, causing low morale. As economies
were not improving at a rapid enough pace, combined with high unemployment and a hungry
population, people started to look for change. Communism began to look promising, and was
becoming increasingly popular in Europe through rebels and partisans. In an attempt confine the
spread of Communism, Marshall was sent to Moscow to negotiate with Stalin. Initially, Stalin
welcomed the possibility of Soviet participation in a U.S funded European reconstruction program.
However, Stalin opposed the idea of a coordinated multilateral aid programme, which was seen to
threaten the Soviet political and economic position in Eastern Europe , and withdrew all support and

Symbolism In The Secret Lion By Alberto Alvaro Rios
Lots of things change when you age. That treehouse that your dad built for you when you were
little is not just a treehouse anymore, instead, it serves as a reminder of how gentle and careful
he was. Similar to the treehouse, the symbols used in the short story, The Secret Lion by Alberto
Alvaro Rios, show the readers how the boys perspectives on things change as they get older.
When they were young, the narrator and his friend Sergio liked to play at the arroyo to pass
time. One day, they found a grinding ball which they suspect must have been used for mining.
The cannonball was something perfect in an imperfect world, innocence in an adult world, and it
was something they wanted to keep forever, just like how kids will always want to be kids. They
boys knew that they were going to have to hide the metal ball or else it was going to get taken
away, which means that they are growing and becoming more aware of how unfair the world is....

arroyo was not as perfect as they thought when they were kids. Everything in their childhood loses

The Determinants Of Foreign Direct Investment
Topic and Motivations
The topic of my dissertation is about the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in
developing countries. With the trend of economic integration, FDI has been considered as an
important part of boosting the economic development within any country around the world. Foreign
direct investments differ entirely from indirect investments such as portfolio management. The
direct way of investing in a foreign country can be conducted in a number of ways either by
establishing overseas controlled corporations, or associate company abroad, by obtaining shares of
an multinational company, or though a joint venture.
Almost all of the countries are trying to attract FDI, as inward FDI could bring host countries a
number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study is focused on the two aspects: market seeking FDI and resource seeking FDI. These two
aspects which influence the determination of FDI can be denominated by some numerical
variables. In terms of market seeking, GDP and the rate of inflation can be used to measure the
market size and market growth respectively. The sum of exports and imports of goods and
services indicates the openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to
regional and global markets. On the other hand, raw materials and human capital are the key
elements for those resource seeking enterprises. Thus, labour cost per worker in logs denotes
human capital. With all the variables above, a specific regression model are able to build to
investigate the research question.
Theory of the study
FDI has grown strongly with the rapid speed of globalization. There are a few theories which
attempt to explain the motives for and determinants of it. The early theory arose on the basis of
international business. Another theory that is well accepted is called New Economic Geography.
This study is based on the theory derived from the eclectic paradigm of Dunning. Dunning (1977)
introduced three types of advantages in terms of determining the location of FDI, which are owner
specific advantage, location specific advantage and internalization specific advantage.

Why Rebecca Is Not Crazy
No words can describe what goes on in this girl s mind. Some call her deranged, crazy, but others
say she is smart and insane, but you really need to get into the mind of a deranged person. Before
she met her maker, Rebecca was a well rounded girl with a good head on her shoulders. She was
smart, intelligent even a little nerdy, but she had a sweetheart/and would do anything for those
of family or friends. Rebecca does have OCD so she is very picky on some things including
everything has to be in an order. If not she goes a little mad which is normal at least for the normal
side of her mind. Rebecca has what some would say split personality, but she wasn t always like
that, in fact, this girl was school body president, someone who would volunteer at animal shelters
and even old folks homes. Then there is another part of Rebecca that is hidden from most, but her

others to a point, but she also laughs as well when someone is hurt. Rebecca was molded from
her maker calling her his lil monster, and making her a werewolf knowing she would be a

Essay On Censorship In America
As Americans, we pride ourselves on having the ability to say what we want when we want to.
This was a right given to us by the First Amendment of the Constitution. The act of censorship
creates a barrier between media and freedom of speech. Due to the topic of censorship, many
Americans have different opinions on if censorshipis a violation of their rights as a citizen of the
United Statesor if it is to preserve the wellbeing of the country. Before the internet became as
powerful as it is today, the government reviewed every article, news report, and television show
before being released for public viewing to prevent indecencies from occurring in the media.
Consequently, as the media continues to flourish, it creates difficulties in the government being
able to track everything that is online. Furthermore, the uprising of the internet creates more of a
reason for censorship in the media, especially due to the increased use of the internet by children.
Americans should include censorship in their everyday lives to a certain extent because of the
violence in our country, to provide censorship for children, and to provide positive images.
To begin with, Americans need to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cloning Essay
Cloning
Cloning is an unethical action that should not be tampered with physically in any animal form
regardless of what it is. This is a genetically engineered process by humans, in which, perfectly
generated genes from someone or something is copied into its own life form to be an exact
replica. In the article Calves cloned to produce drugs there are two cows involved with cloning.
People should not be tampering with this, but letting God create people and animals the way he
has it planned out to be. Not to mention, no two or more life forms should ever be exactly alike
with the exact same genes (except for plants who are that way anyhow). With this happening to
animals now and evolving toward humans, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one should ever try and alter genes to any animal coming into this world, therefore in this news
article, the cows should have never been cloned. In an article in Time magazine, Richard Seed (a
well educated man that graduated from Harvard)
Page 2 wanted to start up a commercial cloning clinic. As soon as that was released to public,
President Clinton blasted the idea as untested and unsafe and morally unacceptable (Nash 58).
People around the country reacted nervous and uneasy. This was an example of one person that
has the desire and knowledge to do such a thing as this. If we don t stop him now, then there will
be many more doctors who will follow and set up this idea of cloning around the world. Then the
next thing you know, there will be hundreds of people identical and healthy everywhere. There is
nothing wrong with the people being healthy, but not becoming that way from cloning. Being
healthy should be our job as humans to keep up with our own body. As the article continued, Seed
posed his whole idea of opening the clinic from his interest in biomedicine and discovered a
technique for transferring embryos in cattle (58). This is a whole new idea that cloning of animals
can lead to cloning of our human race.
Seed began his work with embryos in cattle and now he has expanded his idea to form a human
cloning clinic. These are the kind of people that are going to want to go further in the cloning of

The High Quality Data Gathering System Essay
Measured and Monitored In China, as well as other countries, including the United States,
controlling the rising cost medical care while providing high quality services (value for money
spent) is an arduous task in advancing the cause of imparting universal healthcare coverage to a
country s population (Tang, Tao, Bekedam, 2012). This quest is particularly problematic in China
with respect to quality, due to a lack of appropriate systematic monitoring which may be considered
essential for any type of improvement (Ma, Lu, Quan, 2008). As China has no reliable clinical
quality data gathering system, the current extent to which the quality of medical services is
measured and monitored consists of graded public hospitals divided into levels based on the
inherent resources available to patients (Xu, Liu, Shu, Yang, Liang, (2015). In terms of measuring
and monitoring cost control, China has begun to monitor and evaluate pharmaceutical drugs
brought into all of the public hospitals, as this is a significant source of the country s health care
expenditure, and reportedly obtains some measurement data through the collection of information
from national health services surveys (Tang, Tao, Bekedam, 2012), which are only instituted on an
infrequent five year basis (The Commonwealth Fund, 2016, p.35). In the United States, measuring
and monitoring the quality of care has been reported to be lacking, given the immensity of this

Factors Affecting BCS Behaviors In African American Women

Many behavioral theories have been used to explain and predict factors that affect BCS behavior.
These theories include Health Belief Model (HBM), Transtheoriticaal Model (TTM), and Extended
Parallel Process Model (EPPM).
Fair M. A. et al, 2012 used the HBM and EPPM to understand how the interaction of perceived risk
and benefits affect the mammography adherence in African American women. Perceived risks are
personal beliefs of getting breast cancer. Perceived benefits are personal beliefs about importance

Apollo Vs Artemis Essay
Greek mythology is a subject that has fascinated humans for millennia, that has inspired numerous
books and movies alike. While the family tree of the Gods is a huge, and slightly confusing article

so than others. Apolloand Artemis, twin siblings of the moon and sun, patron of archers, have been
a subject of fascination for historians and mythology fans alike. These siblings have been known
as both ruthless and fair on many occasions in Greek literature and are believed by some to be the

As stated earlier, Artemis became an eternal maiden, choosing to remain celibate, she was very
protective of her and her hunter s chastity. When men witnessed her naked, bathing, she would
hear their side of the story before striking them down, such was the tale of Sipriotes, who was a
child and accidently witnessed Artemis in the nude, being innocent she transformed him into a
girl so she would not have to kill him. However, when an adult hunter, Actaeon, witnessed her
nudity, he demanded that she be his wife and bear his children, Artemis responded by
transforming him into a deer, to be eaten by his dogs. Apollo was impatient in his dealings with
humans; such as, when the Queen Niobe of Delos bragged that she was greater than Leto, the
twins mother, because she had sixteen children instead of two, Apollo took his golden bow and
struck down all of her children and incited the citizens to tear her apart. Another instance was
when Apollo had a flute contest with a satyr, with King Midas as the sole judge. Apollo was
certain he would win, being the god of music, but the satyr was declared the winner, causing
Apollo to fly into a fit of rage; he flayed the goat alive and cursed Midas with donkey

The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The...
The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal
language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative
issues, and training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners
throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic
segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely
essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency
is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire
sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In
other words, the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and
proficient writing. Good spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can
enormously improve or obstruct reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing
a troublesome task by too much attention to spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s
selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts
in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill development for ESL students is
mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that rely upon
comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and

Spectacular Favela Book Review
Violence comes in all forms and shapes within the context of Brazil. Brazil has had a long history
of violence due to its colonial history and the contemporary socio economic conditions that have
arisen out of its history. The favelas of Brazil are an example of the extreme violence of all forms
that exist in Brazilian society. Through her book The Spectacular Favela: Violencein Modern Brazil,
Erika Robb Larkins makes a case on how the violence present in the favela of Rocinha have grown
to become spectacles and commodified. These two factors contribute to the continuation of violence

Larkins examines how the varieties of tourisms that exist and the response to the tourism in
order to illustrate how violence is commodified and reinforced. While many scholars that look at
the tourism of the favela theorize that it is the consumption of the spectacle of poverty that is
driving the popularity of the tourism, Larkins argues that it is in fact the commodification of
violence that drives the tourism (112). The main forms of tourism that exist for the favelas
reifies how it is violence rather than just poverty that encourages the popularity of the favela
tours. The two types of tours are adventure tours and solidarity tours based on what is included in
the tour and who it is marketed towards. Adventures tours are markets toward young adults and
backpackers and it has an emphasis on the violence and the drug industry that is seen in the
representations of the favelas (119). For example, one tour that Larkins joined had tourists
taking pictures with AK 47s and being a part of a drug trade (121). For the tourists, these
adventure tours offer them the opportunity to role play as traffickers, at least the images of
traffickers seen in the media (121). Thus, in the case of this tour, violence, or the representation of
violence, is sold to the tourist. Tour guides make it seem as it is dangerous to be on these tours by
saying statements such as the kids that are flying kites are actually sending messages to traffickers
and that to be cautious about taking pictures (pp. 117 and 118). It is this staged sense of danger that
contributes to the commodification of violence and the trafficker s

The Hippocampus And Its Effects On Patients With Depression
The hippocampus is smaller in patients with depression. The smaller hippocampus is thought to be
diminished because of a persistent exposure to stress hormones, like cortisol, which impacts the
growth of nerve cells. The hippocampus is highly susceptible to stress, perhaps because the
protracted ontogeny or the high amount of glucocorticoid receptors (Uma Rao et al.; 2010). The
longer the patient has depression, or the more episodes of depression the patient experiences, the
smaller the hippocampal volumes become. Stress correlates with the smaller hippocampus,
researchers used twenty nine patients with depression, twenty two patients with severe
depression and thirty two control patients. All patients were around the same age, physically
healthy, alcohol and drug free, and did not have any other kind of mental illness like bi polar

commissure as well as the borders of the left and right hippocampus. From the MRI scans and
using a formula the hippocampal volumes were figured. All of the patients were followed up on,

depressed patients had smaller hippocampal volumes when compared to the control subjects. The

General Demand Function Of Desktop Computers
The general demand function represents the relationship between the demand of a product or
service and the following six factors: the price of the product or service, the consumers income,
price of related goods or services, the taste patterns of consumers, expected price of the good in
some future period and number of the consumers in the market (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 40).
This general demand function can be applied to all products and services to forecast the quantity
that will be demanded based on the current market trends. The remainder of this paper will apply
this general demand function to desktop computers and how the various factors affect the product
demand.
The first factor to analyze is the price of desktop computers. Like all goods and services in the
market, the price and the quantity demanded are inversely related as described in the law of
demand. If the price of desktop computers rises, the demand will decrease. Similarly, if the price
of desktop computers falls, the demand will rise. Consumers often watch for prices to drop or
sales to occur before making big purchases to. Due to the inverse relationship between the demand
and the price of the computers, the slope parameter would have a negative sign. This negative sign
denotes that as one piece of the equation changes, the other will move in the opposite direction.
The second factor of the general demand function is the consumers income. Desktop computers are
considered a normal good, or

Savannah Horn
To fully understand Savannah Horn s piece Until I Am Whole, I needed to conduct some
research on Savannah as an artist, the exhibition of Begotten, and the specific piece itself. After
searching the Internet for information on Horn and her work, I was able to create an educated
list of the questions I wish I could ask her. Thanks to today s social media use, I was able to get
in touch with renowned Savannah Horn. To my luck, she was one of the kindest artists I ve met
and was willing to answer any and all of my questions regarding her work. The interview I
conducted with Savannah was crucial in helping me understand and appreciate the piece Until I Am
Whole. To begin the research, I focused on Savannah s identity as a student and an artist.... Show

After lengthy conversation, I found that my initially interpretation of this piece was closer than
I thought. To start off, Horn confirmed that this piece is considered a painting, even though it
does utilize certain sculptural elements. Her main inspiration for this piece was stained glass
windows seen in large cathedrals, which is where she drew her color scheme. Until I Am
Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea,
Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif,
which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with
many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up
of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. Savannah Horn wanted
to force the viewers to reach through the layers just as one is forced to sift through knowledge and
practice in order to glimpse at the truth of God. When I initially viewed this painting that was my
first reaction! I saw light beaming through the window, signifying the search and hope for God or
the truth. At this point, my interpretation of Until I Am Whole is comparable with the artist s

Judaism, Christianity And Judaism And Interfaith
Interfaith Essay
Many religions share some of the same values, yet many religions differ greatly from one another.
For example Christianity and Judaism share similar beliefs as one another, where as a religion
such as Islam doesn t correlate with other religions as often. Religions have set beliefs and in many
cases a sacred place or temple, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all aligned in this way; due to
the fact that Israel is know as the biblical holy land to Jews, christians, and muslims. Christianity s
holy land is Israel Jerusalem, which is also the holy land in Judaism. Islam has a number of sacred
places, one very well known and considered to be Islam s most sacred land is the holy city of
Mecca.
Christianity is connected with Israel for numerous reasons. Jerusalem (founded in 3000 BC) is
presumed to be the whereabouts of some of Jesus s teaching, the institution of the Holy
Eucharist (Holy Communion/the Lord s Supper), and the Last Supper. Jesus was crucified in
Golgotha which is right outside of Jerusalem according the the New Testament near the city
(John 19:20), and outside the city wall (Hebrews 13:12). The Church of the Sepulchre of Saint
Mary (Tomb of the Virgin Mary), in the Kidron Valley, very near to Mount of Olives in
Jerusalem is known as the burial site of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The Mount of Olives also
known as Mount Olivet is a very important place with regards to key factors that took place in the
life of Jesus Christ. The Mount of

Essay about Workers Compensation Fraud
Workers Compensation Fraud
Worker s Compensation is a service that provides reimbursement for lost wages to employees
who have sustained injuries from work or work related tasks. It is also one of the services that is
most often the victim of fraud. Each of the three types of fraud, claimant, employer, and provider, is
defined by the same characteristics, outlined by the Ohio Board of Workers Compensation:
#61623; Receiving workers compensation benefits that are not entitled to the claimant;
#61623; Making false or misleading statements with the purpose of securing goods or services
under the Workers Compensation Act;

This proves little if any about the real problem, though, because only about 1,000 claims were
investigated in Kansas over five years (Lorenz), while over seven times that amount were
investigated in New York and California in the same time period ( InsuranceFraud ). Throughout
most sources, though, it is clear to see that employer fraud is the most prevalent and costly type of
fraud. Employer fraud includes a number of schemes used by employers to reduce the number of
workers compensation insurance premiums by underreporting payroll, misclassifying employees
occupations and misrepresenting their claims experience. According to the National Council on
Compensation, the most common frauds include:
#61623; Misclassification of workers. Employers can either classify workers as independent
contractor or misrepresent the work performed, which places workers in a less hazardous
occupational category. Both of these tactics are intended to avoid or reduce premiums.
#61623; Underreporting payroll. Another method of premium reduction is employers not reporting
parts of the work force, paying workers off the books, or creating a companion corporation to hide
a portion of the employees.

Dispute Resolution By Forced Arbitration
Dispute resolution is a term that refers to a number of procedures that can be used to settle a
claim. Conflict resolution procedures are alternatives to receiving a court resolve the dispute in a
trial. People often have to compensate a large fee just to start the arbitration procedure. If they are
able to make an in person audience, people sometimes have to travel thousands of miles on their
own money to attend the arbitration. In the final stage, the loser often pays the company s legal fees.
Forced arbitration is chosen by companies because it benefits companies. People are frequently
unaware that they ve agreed to forced arbitration. Most Americans have accepted good or services
or a job with forced arbitration as a condition. Forced arbitration severely limits consumer choices
for breaking up a conflict. By forced arbitration if any problem comes up, you can t amend that
decision. The contract typically also names the arbitration company that must be used. Forced
arbitration clauses generally bind the consumer and not the company. The way many forced
arbitration clauses are written, the seller retains its rights to call for any complaint to court while
the consumer can only initiate arbitration. Arbitration is a private system without a judge, jury or a
right to an appeal. Arbitrators aren t required to learn the law into account in arriving at their
determinations. There is no appeal of decisions to ensure the arbitrator got it right.

Example Of Research Proposal On Obesity
Draft of research proposal

athletic University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) students A correlation study.
Introduction
In this era of modernization, obesity has become a common disorder affecting a large number of
individuals all around the world. According to research published in 2013, one in five American
deaths is now associated with obesity.[1] In fact, obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat
accumulation that presents a risk to health.[10] An obese person will mount up a large amount of
body fat that it might bring about negative effect on their health. Waist circumference is an easy
way to check how much body fat we have and its distribution around our body. Eventually, it
compares closely with our body mass index (BMI), and is often seen as a better way of checking
our risk of developing a chronic disease.[9] A study has been done to show the threshold values
for body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) for detecting cardiovascular disease
(CVD) risk.[3] Thus, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Osteobiologic Materials
Different types of osteobiologic materials include: metal based, ceramic based and polymer
based bone graft substitutes either with or without various types of cells. Some of these
materials may have various bioactive molecules such as growth factors embedded in them [47], [48
52] for example: BMP 2 [53 55], TGF b [54], GDF 5 [56, 57] and VEGF [58] or a mixture [57],
since these growth factors are among of the multiple factors expressed during boneregeneration [59
61]. Such materials have been investigated widely in literature[62], [63] to exhibit specific
responses. Calciumphosphate showed osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties in the form of
sintered ceramics [64 67], cements [68, 69], and coatings [70, 71]. Besides calcium phosphate...

One method is uses ion impregnation of the surface [84]. This method allows the material to act in
such a way that they can either promote bone formation or reduce bone loss, since ions are essential
factors for enzymes. Bioinorganic ions can modulate angiogenesis to accelerate healing, induce
osteogenesis, and stimulate proliferation of osteoblast control. However the use of inorganic ions
can also cause toxicity [85]. An example of a bioinorganic ion used on titanium is calcium ions.
Calcium modified implants, create a concentration gradient of chemo attractants for mesenchymal
and osteoprogenitor cells on the implant surface. Moreover, calcium modified titanium surfaces
have electrical characteristics different from normal titanium surface, this change in the electrical
properties on the surface increases the composition of adsorbed biofilm [86]. Other ions used to
modify titanium surfaces are phosphate ions [87]. Phosphate ions are associated with proteins in
formation and regeneration of bones through phosphorylation of serine, threonine and tyrosine
amino residues. Phosphate modified titanium implants block the incorporation of mineral ions into
the crystal surface, inhibiting thereby crystal growth. The last ion coating consists of both
phosphate and calcium [88], coating it with hydroxyapatite [89].
Additional treatments involves changing the structure of titanium to become porous and bio active

Educating Rita Metamorphosis
The Portrayal of Metamorphosis in Educating Rita by Willy Russell
In this essay, I am going to discuss the portrayal of metamorphosis in Willy Russell s Educating
Rita.
I am going to write about how the play s two round characters, Frank and Rita, change their
attitudes, confidence, lifestyle, appearance and their overall look on life throughout the course of
the play. To do this, I will analyse Frank and Rita at the start of the play and then go on to comment
on how they change from the beginning to the end of the play.
The writer who wrote this brilliant play is called Willy Russell. He was born in 1947 in Liverpool
and lived most of his life there. He came from a typical working class ... Show more content on

At first, she is very bubbly and chatty when she meets her insecure and quiet, tutor, Frank. They
could never know how their personalities and attitudes could affect each other and help them to
eventually change for the better. When the play was made into a film in 1984, it was so good that
it received a Bafta for best film, best actress and also the best actor.
It could be considered that the writer of the play tries to show his own metamorphosis through the
character of Rita. He successfully shows how he and Rita both came from a deprived background
and changed their lives dramatically with hard work and determination.
At the beginning of Educating Rita, we see Rita as a very forthcoming and lively person. This is
evident as the first time that she actually meets her tutor, Frank; she is extremely open and
talkative with him. Well that s no good always meanin to, is it? Y should get on with it; one of
these days you ll be shoutin come in an it ll go on forever because the poor sod on the other side
won t be able to get in. An you won t be able to get out. This quotation shows us that Rita is
incredibly friendly and is not at all shy. She is not embarrassed to speak her mind. This is the first
impression that the reader has of Rita.
Although we see that Rita is open and forward, we also learn that she is uneducated and doesn t
believe that she

When Asher is at his own home, or at his Uncle s house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and
expands Asher s artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors
Asher and tries to help Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his
individuality. Asher is able to talk to Yudel like a father, having open discussions with him, and
on occasion helps him in the store and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm
by Asher in the latter part of the text when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed
because it feels like Asher s second home, warm and cozy.
Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok s first technique of imagery is used to
describe him. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched
wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in
uncomplimentary terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store

Homeless Shelters, A Lack Of Resources Essay
Thirty two percent of families facing homelessness were rejected by homeless shelters because of
a lack of resources (Gerges 19). If city officials don t formulate concise response plans, homeless
shelters won t be able to accommodate the influx of people without access to other shelters. Some
of these people are forced to stay in the cold or other harsh weather conditions. As a result,
numerous homeless people suffer from conditions like frostbite and hypothermia during the winter
due to the lack of precautions and treatment in addition to the lack of shelter. Most homeless people
are dependent on their resident city s shelter system to protect themselves from severe weather
conditions. Reducing homeless deaths caused by harsh though primarily cold weather conditions
can be solved by moving the homeless out of the street into either temporary shelter programs using
spare storage units and trailers for emergency circumstances or a permanent housing initiative. In
2014, nearly 600,000 578,424В to be exact homeless people live in the United States; about a third
of this population doesn t have access to shelter. This third of the populace suffer the most when

Patriarchy In Argentina During The 1900 s
During the 1900 s in Argentina, the idea of patriarchy authority clearly triumphed over any of the

Life Savers
According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States
respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000
Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to
fires has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many
firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most
firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological
advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow).
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire
scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter
PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while
maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE
technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Many buildings burned down
because of firefighters were limited to external fighting measures only wearing wool coats, rubber
boots, gloves, and leather helmets. In the History of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment by
Paul Hasenmeier claims:
In the 1600 s, firefighters had to

The Chrysanthemums Symbolism
How can a flower simply represent the personality of a person? Chrysanthemum comes from the
Greek prefix of chrys meaning golden and anthemion meaning flower. John Steinbeck s short story
discusses the life of Elisa Allen, an advocate for gardening with an internal want for a more
fulfilling life. The chrysanthemum is an ironic flower to use in this story because the
chrysanthemum is a symbol of optimism and joy, which is lacking in Elisa s life. Steinbeck brings
the theme of genderinequality to the surface by using the symbols of the chrysanthemums and the
Salinas Valley as representations of different feelings and emotions in Elisa s life. In John Steinbeck

The chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa s life and how society has forbidden her to be anything
other than a housewife or something within the boundaries of her home. When Elisa offers the
Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with
her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her
and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely
decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but
golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and
would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women
are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she
follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his
bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie
themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The
valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. The two men in Steinbeck s story,
Henry and the Tinker, do not notice the intelligence, beauty, and potential that Elisa has just as
society does not see it either. Steinbeck uses

  • 2. Short-Term Mate Preferences In Friends With Benefits Short term mating, or long term mating are two of the most important phases that almost every human on this earth would have to go through to reproduce and pass on their genes. Short term mating and long term mating can be studied through the evolution of human behavior. Evolution of human behavior allows scientists and researchers to look at human s relationships, our interaction with each other from routine conversations to the most complicated of human s interaction in a more profound approach. With movies, music, or any other type of media outlets tend to display lots of subject matter about loveand sex, how the idea of short term mating can lead to successful long term relationships is absolutely mesmerizing to understand with sexual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until one night, Adam is drunkenly dialing every girl on his phone to look for a hookup, he somehow ended up at Emma s apartment the next morning not knowing that he had sex with her. The reason Adam dialed every girl looking for a hook up was because he was exposed to good looking women at the bar while being intoxicated which can boost his testosterone level therefore he s more desired to go after any woman. Adam clearly does not care who he hooks up with at this point since he has no intention of settling in with any of these women that he just called. Similarly, the reason Emma chooses to have sex with Adam is because Adam is a good looking guy because he s able to satisfy her with the indirect benefits that he can provide during their short term mating. Women tend to go for indirect benefits rather than direct benefits while searching for short term mates. A person s indirect benefits is anything that would genetically help their future offspring increase its fitness because these indirect benefits may include high quality genes for their offspring or genes that make their offspring more ... He was significant for being the Hawaiian conqueror, the king who united islands, and even founded the Kamehameha dynasty. He was also significant for other challenges throughout his life. • 5. Cape Cod Erosion Cape Cod, a little arm that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, is a popular destination all year round but especially in the Summer for beachgoers. Cape Cod was formed about 18,000 years ago when the glaciers started to melt, but how was it formed? It formed through a process called weathering and erosion. Weathering is the process of wearing away or changing the appearance or texture of (something) by long exposure to the water, wind, and even ice. Erosion is the process that takes the results of weathering away by water, wind, or other natural processes. The sediment was picked up by the glaciers and slowly eroded down towards Cape Cod. As the glaciers moved south, the warmer weather began to melt the glaciers and they dumped their load of sediment to form Cape Cod. In total, 3 glaciers formed Cape Cod. The middle lobe retreated first leaving behind sediment that created the middle part of the arm (the bicep). Next the easternmost lobe retreated and the sediment it left behind created the upper part of the arm (Provincetown). When the last glaciers melted about 18,000 years ago leaving behind an usual looking landform. Today, scientists know that the glaciers brought the sediment because they are all different colors, textures, and all have different layers. A big problem in Cape Cod is beach erosion. The first reason why the beaches are eroding is because of rock jetties. Rock jetties that separate beaches interrupt the natural transfer of sand by the tides and wind. The ... • 6. Holden s Teenage Life Teenage life is known to be full of anxiety and problems, ripe with angst and development. All adults have gone through it, but it is still a often overlooked aspect of life. J. D. Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye details a taste of troubled teenage life. This novel is a noteworthy classic, lending towards the author s refusal to have the book digitalized in any way. The book itself is about the 16 year old Holden Caulfield, a teen in the big city of New York, with a lot of problems. This novel goes a long way to showing how difficult it can be to grow up, and how it is critical to have good relationships with others to make it through. One of the primary effects on Holden s teenage life is the loss of his brother, which is not mentioned until later in the story, where Holden mentions how descriptive his brother Allie s mitt is, stating he had poems written all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere He wrote them on it so that he d have something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He s dead now. This quote is especially interesting because it is stated in a present tense style, while most of the story is in past tense. This goes to show how much of an impact this particular event has had on Holden s teenage life, clearly having a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essay On Partisan Animosity Why do political candidates, like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, sacrifice their morals and alter the moral fabric of society by using dirty tricks and maneuvers, twisting the truth, and telling outright lies? Partisan animosity has escalated to the point where, the simple two word comment, a pen (Brandon), by a 14 year old, sparked an attack filled with vicious name calling and animosity. Such is the case with Gabe Fleisher from Missouri, who posted the two word comment as a response to the following tweet posted by Donald Trump, a billionaire businessman, and Republican presidential candidate: Why is this reporter touching me as I leave news conference? What is in her hand?? (Brandon).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, they are the norm, rather than the exception. The election of 1800 between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams is one such campaign. Jefferson, through the use of James Callender, a pamphleteer who was one of his supporters, used one of the oldest tricks against Adams: spreading outright lies about his opponent. Callender alleged that Adams wanted to go to war with France and also depicted him as a hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman. (Freeman). Reputation soiled and credibility destroyed, Adams was no match for Jefferson, who ended up winning the election. Another example of a contentious presidential campaign occurred in 1964. Barry Goldwater was running as the Republican nominee and had his campaign slogan, In your heart, you know he s right. was altered by his Democratic foes into In your guts, you know he s nuts. (Kertscher). The implication of mental instability did not do Goldwater any favors, and he ended up losing the election. At times, the animosity and vitriol are such that physical violence has occurred, as is the case of U.S. Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts. In 1856, three days after giving a speech which criticized pro slavery southerners, Sumner was beaten on the Senate floor by U.S. Representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina. As a result of the severe beating, Sumner was not able to return to the Senate for three years (Freeman). These are but three examples of the plethora of incidents caused when candidates or elected officials engage in sharply polarizing discourse in the pursuit of their own ... • 8. A Brief Note On Animal And Horse Training Vaughn 6 Animals Horse Training Seriously, Socrates? Baylee Vaughn Reality and Human Existence Dr. 18 November 2016 In cross examining Meletus in ?The Apology? Socrates draws an analogy between the training of horses and the moral education of the young. Seriously, a man having the intelligence that has been attributed to Socrates, used this analogy to sway members of the jury of his peers that would decide his guilt or innocence, and ultimately his life or death? To help the reader understand my belief that Socrates reference to horses does not help his defense, but in fact, helped convict him, one must understand the many different references to horses and horse trainers. The first reference to animals by Socrates in ?The Apology? when he states that he met Callias who was rumored to spend more money on Sophists than anyone else and asks him the question if his sons were animals?colts or calves?a horse breeder of farmer could be engaged to make them excel. (The Apology 20b). This statement he recounted was trying to convince the jury that he did not charge fees while those did. So, he was innocent because he groomed for free? To evaluate the second reference, this direct quote from Socrates: ?You condemn me to a great misfortune. Tell me does this also apply to horses do you think? Movies like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid have captured the attention of young children since the mid twentieth century. A child s opinion on gender roles and behaviors has been strengthened by Disney movies. Most young girls believe their lives will be incomplete without a man to protect them from all evils. Women have always felt inferior to men due to society s interpretation of them in major motion pictures and advertisements. Society has started to realize its mistake on judging women and their ability to be independent by giving women more inspiring and uplifting roles in movies. A movie which does not focus as much on the typical stereotype of women would be the 1991 Disney fairytale classic known as Beauty and the Beast. This romantic fairytale does not identify women as powerless, but instead starts a positive trend of independence and intelligence. Beauty and the Beast wants viewers to realize the importance of inner beauty rather than external beauty, but still emphasizes gender inequality through the script and various songs. As any other Disney fairytale animation, the main character is a young and beautiful woman. Belles name literally means beauty. Disney reinforces the ideal form of beauty through Belle s tiny figure, blue eyes and brown hair. Her soft voice is accompanied by the ability to sing beautifully. Women are ... Maria M. Indeed, the some of the most famous fairytales by the Brothers Grimm are filled with evil creatures that are out to do humankind harm. Moreover, many of the stories in fairytales do not contain the watered down version of evil that is depicted by many Disney type productions in modern media but rather describe the real thing where people can suffer and even die as a result of their contact with the evil creatures in fairytales. Some authorities even argue that fairytales can be disturbing for young readers, but most seem to agree that the good triumphs over evil themes in fairytales make them timeless and appropriate for everyone. This quest is particularly problematic in China with respect to quality, due to a lack of appropriate systematic monitoring which may be considered essential for any type of improvement (Ma, Lu, Quan, 2008). • 32. Apollo Vs Artemis Essay Greek mythology is a subject that has fascinated humans for millennia, that has inspired numerous books and movies alike. While the family tree of the Gods is a huge, and slightly confusing article of notice, full of many characters, both monstrous and beatific, two siblings are worth noting more so than others. Apolloand Artemis, twin siblings of the moon and sun, patron of archers, have been a subject of fascination for historians and mythology fans alike. These siblings have been known as both ruthless and fair on many occasions in Greek literature and are believed by some to be the most influential characters of the Ancient Greece. As stated earlier, Artemis became an eternal maiden, choosing to remain celibate, she was very protective of her and her hunter s chastity. When men witnessed her naked, bathing, she would hear their side of the story before striking them down, such was the tale of Sipriotes, who was a child and accidently witnessed Artemis in the nude, being innocent she transformed him into a girl so she would not have to kill him. However, when an adult hunter, Actaeon, witnessed her nudity, he demanded that she be his wife and bear his children, Artemis responded by transforming him into a deer, to be eaten by his dogs. Apollo was impatient in his dealings with humans; such as, when the Queen Niobe of Delos bragged that she was greater than Leto, the twins mother, because she had sixteen children instead of two, Apollo took his golden bow and struck down all of her children and incited the citizens to tear her apart. Another instance was when Apollo had a flute contest with a satyr, with King Midas as the sole judge. Apollo was certain he would win, being the god of music, but the satyr was declared the winner, causing Apollo to fly into a fit of rage; he flayed the goat alive and cursed Midas with donkey ... • 33. The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The... The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and ... Larkins examines how the varieties of tourisms that exist and the response to the tourism in order to illustrate how violence is commodified and reinforced. While many scholars that look at the tourism of the favela theorize that it is the consumption of the spectacle of poverty that is driving the popularity of the tourism, Larkins argues that it is in fact the commodification of violence that drives the tourism (112). The main forms of tourism that exist for the favelas reifies how it is violence rather than just poverty that encourages the popularity of the favela tours. The two types of tours are adventure tours and solidarity tours based on what is included in the tour and who it is marketed towards. Adventures tours are markets toward young adults and backpackers and it has an emphasis on the violence and the drug industry that is seen in the representations of the favelas (119). For example, one tour that Larkins joined had tourists taking pictures with AK 47s and being a part of a drug trade (121). For the tourists, these adventure tours offer them the opportunity to role play as traffickers, at least the images of traffickers seen in the media (121). Thus, in the case of this tour, violence, or the representation of violence, is sold to the tourist. Tour guides make it seem as it is dangerous to be on these tours by saying statements such as the kids that are flying kites are actually sending messages to traffickers and that to be cautious about taking pictures (pp. 117 and 118). General Demand Function Of Desktop Computers The general demand function represents the relationship between the demand of a product or service and the following six factors: the price of the product or service, the consumers income, price of related goods or services, the taste patterns of consumers, expected price of the good in some future period and number of the consumers in the market (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 40). This general demand function can be applied to all products and services to forecast the quantity that will be demanded based on the current market trends. The remainder of this paper will apply this general demand function to desktop computers and how the various factors affect the product demand. The first factor to analyze is the price of desktop computers. Like all goods and services in the market, the price and the quantity demanded are inversely related as described in the law of demand. If the price of desktop computers rises, the demand will decrease. Similarly, if the price of desktop computers falls, the demand will rise. Consumers often watch for prices to drop or sales to occur before making big purchases to. Due to the inverse relationship between the demand and the price of the computers, the slope parameter would have a negative sign. This negative sign denotes that as one piece of the equation changes, the other will move in the opposite direction. The second factor of the general demand function is the consumers income. Until I Am Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea, Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif, which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. Some of these people are forced to stay in the cold or other harsh weather conditions. A Report On Life Savers Bailey Edwards Carter English 12 28 April 2015 Life Savers According to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Fire departments in the United States respond to 1.8 million fires each year or about four fires every minute. Annually, more than 5,000 Americans are killed and 100,000 are injured as a result of fires, and annual property loss due to fires has been estimated to be as high as $10 billion (Smith et al.1). Which means there are many firefighters risking their lives to save others . They know the risks but love doing it. Today, most firefighters are provided with a full encapsulated ensemble that incorporates technological advancements in thermal protection, breathability, chemical resistance and reflectivity (Tutterow). PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) protects firefighters from almost anything presented on a fire scene yet, still is not enough to lower the rates of deaths and injuries in the fire service. Firefighter PPE needs to reduce deaths and injuries and continue advancements in technology, all while maintaining a reasonable cost. If the United States continues to make advancements in PPE technology it will decrease the number of fatalities and injuries. Many buildings burned down because of firefighters were limited to external fighting measures only wearing wool coats, rubber boots, gloves, and leather helmets. In the History of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment by Paul Hasenmeier claims: In the 1600 s, firefighters had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. The Chrysanthemums Symbolism How can a flower simply represent the personality of a person? Chrysanthemum comes from the Greek prefix of chrys meaning golden and anthemion meaning flower. John Steinbeck s short story discusses the life of Elisa Allen, an advocate for gardening with an internal want for a more fulfilling life. The chrysanthemum is an ironic flower to use in this story because the chrysanthemum is a symbol of optimism and joy, which is lacking in Elisa s life. Steinbeck brings the theme of genderinequality to the surface by using the symbols of the chrysanthemums and the Salinas Valley as representations of different feelings and emotions in Elisa s life. In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums , the chrysanthemums themselves represent Elisa and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chrysanthemums symbolize Elisa s life and how society has forbidden her to be anything other than a housewife or something within the boundaries of her home. When Elisa offers the Tinker her chrysanthemums, she was also offering herself because she saw herself as one with her flowers. When the tinker tosses her flowers on the road this mimics the way he rejects her and the way society has rejected women. The flowers, just like women, are seen as merely decorations, not something that can be daring. The chrysanthemums like women are golden, but golden only in regards to looks, nothing more. When Elisa tells the Tinker she can fix pots and would love to live the life that he had, he says It ain t the right kind of a life for a woman. Women are supposed to be housewives and mothers. Even though Elisa wants a more thrilling life, she follows in the footsteps of a traditional housewife. She laid out her husband s clothes and ran his bath water because she knows that is her place, even if she disagrees with it. The Salinas tie themselves to the theme because they limit the potential of Elisa s life just as society does. The valley keeps Elisa within the confinement of her quaint life. The two men in Steinbeck s story, Henry and the Tinker, do not notice the intelligence, beauty, and potential that Elisa has just as society does not see it either. Steinbeck uses ...
