Social Media s Impact On Public Relations
Social media forums have had a positive impact on the Public Relations industry in the twenty
first century. The massive increase in social media usage has provided a medium by which it is
easier to connect with a larger audience worldwide. This has resulted in an adoption of social
media strategies for many PR specialists. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow
these specialists to keep up with the public s opinions on current events as well as promote
businesses or products. The public relationsindustry is very different from advertising. While
advertisers pay for exposure and visual aids, PR specialists use language and conferences to
earn the trust of the public. According to the Public Relations Society of America Public
relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships
between organizations and their publics. PR specialists are image shapers and storytellers that
can be used to enhance, protect, and build reputations through any form of media or self created
production. If the news is bad, they formulate the best response to reduce the damage. Their job
is to create positive publicity for their client as well as enhance their reputation. Public relations
specialists over the years have had to stay on top of the changes in communication in order to
adapt for the sake of their business. Before all these new forms of media, the humble fax machine
was depended on to send press releases. Most early PR

The Rock And A Hard Place
Between a Rock and a Hard Place seems to be quite an appropriate title for this HBO documentary
whose executive producer and star is Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Young men with serious criminal
charges and significant prison sentences are provided a second chance by participating in the
Miami Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department s Boot Camp Program in place of serving
their entire prisonsentence. Dwayne Johnson greets 38 cadets starting the program, lectures them
on their opportunity and asserts that he wants the world to see the importance of the program.
Lastly, he tells them bluntly, not to ...f**k this up. (Rock and a Hard Place). For most people it
would appear that participating in this 16 week program would be easier... Show more content on

With this insight, I found that every participant to be likable on some level and was able to see
that the program increased the cadets strength of their character and their resolve. The
documentary covers the support the program supplies for its participants through the various
exercises, counseling sessions, classes and work opportunities. The program offers each of these
benefits at different phases. The documentary presents each participant in a way that it is difficult
not to find some way to relate to each of them and to even care for them or their sense of purpose.
Notably, the program appears thorough with its design to offer support systems and provides
various means of addressing potential obstacles of a cadets success, such as lack of education,
lack of support from family, anger management and substance abuse. Even so, a viewer cannot help
but question some of the harsh treatment. For example, in the beginning you are introduced to two
young men who struggle with understanding the English commands that a drill instructor is
barking at them. Later within the documentary, these same cadets are taken aside and told they
are expected to work harder to overcome the challenge of not understanding English. Towards the
end one cadet ends up breaking down sobbing because he fails one of his critical tests towards
graduation, due to the language barrier. Though there are classes to help the participants learn to
prepare for a GED, there are no tools to help

Symbolism In Whale Rider
In the film Whale Rider, the whale represents life and death. The whale represents life because it
is the mammal on which Paikea s great ancestor rode across the ocean reaching New Zealand
which eventually became the settlement of the Maori people. The whale represents death because
the Maori people would not be on the island they live on if Paikea the great ancestor had not ridden
the whaleto the secluded island in the Pacific. The whale is not only a mean of transportation of
the great ancestor but a symbolism of how their culture thrives just on their existence. The Maori
people would not be alive on the island of New Zealandif it hadn t been for their great ancestor who
was the original whale rider.
The whale helps film viewers recognize Pai s leadership abilities in the ending scenes as the whole
community come together to try and save a pod of beached whale. Koro, Pai s grandfather
originally finds them as he is on his way to her school performance when he notices them all
along the beach in the dark of night. The community comes together in efforts to free the whales
so Koro who is the chief takes charge and instructs everyone to help move the whale closest to
the water in hope that the other will follow. Being the chief of the community, he has a special
connection with the whale he chose to move because it s the leader of the pod. Everyone gathers
around the one whale and tries to move it to no avail even with the help of a tractor. Pai is

Literature for Children in the 19th Century
Literature for children in the 19th century
Since the view of childhood changes in the nineteenth century, the potential of children s literature
becomes evident. With the reference to the sources of children s literature, they can be traced back
to alterations in translation and in the literature for adults, where a child or childhood are essential
concepts; moreover folk literature is concerned to be a wide source for this literary genre.
According to Peter Hunt
Children before the seventeenth century shared narrative, whether oral or through chapbooks, with
adults. The first widely distributed texts for children were by puritan writers; in the mid eighteenth
century books began to be produced commercially, usually ... Show more content on

The portraying of the negative aspects of life results in social tensions and ambigous attitudes
towards children s fiction. Books are criticized for being inappropriate for children, and
consequently attacked for their improper values. However, together with the changing attitude to
childhood, the legacy of children s literature is established with the works of the following writers:
Lewis Carroll and Edith Nesbit, Louisa May Alcott and Mark Twain(Hunt, 2001:13).
Literature for boys and girls in the 19th century
Literature aimed at young readers can be divided into two categories, namely, novels classified
as books for boys and books for girls . These novels can be contrasted and there are visible
differences between them. For instance, literature for boys is characterized by a swift action,
amazing adventures, making difference between good and evil. The novels communicate the
individuals to choose good. However, the novels for girls in many respects may be the opposite
of the books for boys . The action usually takes place on the set of relationships. There are many
descriptions of characters and everyday situations, and ethical choices are often ambiguous.
Books for boys are generally school stories, adventure tales, or imperial fantasy, often about
empire or school life, while stories of home and family life are aimed at girls. Lewis C. Roberts
explains that the school story and the adventure tale... , primarily associated with

Johnny Cash Research Paper
Johnny Cash, born J.R. Cash, was one of seven children born to parents Ray and Carrie Cash in
Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. The Cash family was a farming family, hit hard by
the Depression of the 1930 s. They spent a majority of their time farming to make money, and
when there was little to no work left to be done, the family would relocate. When Cash was two,
the family was chosen by the government to move to Dyess, Arkansas to grow cotton as a part
of a limited community working towards economic recovery. The family attended the
communities Baptist chapel every Sunday, which developed Cash into an inspiring Christian.
At the age of twelve, his best friend and brother, Jack, was killed in a table saw accident while
working at an agricultural shop. The death of his brother along with all of the negativity he felt
in Dyess made him search for an escape. He began to take long walks at night while humming
music, and he decided music would take him through all of his dark places. Cash attended Dyess
High School, and after graduating, he hitchhiked to Pontiac, Michigan to take a job at an
automobile constructing plant. He hated it and returned home a few weeks later, when his family
decided to pack up and leave Dyess. It was then that he decided to enlist in the United States Air
Force, and he would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are carved wooden doors with a small arched window above the entrance. Beams and
rafters made of pine, sycamore and oak brought 45 miles down from the mountains are held
together by rawhide strips. The interior walls are painted with murals in the native Indian style
with some walls painted to look like marble. Dark brown columns are painted on the exterior
flanking the door. The walls are five to six feet thick with heavy buttresses, or support. There are
three bells, one on top, two below, hanging in openings cut in a campanario (a bell wall) and the
bells were cast in 1807, 1817 and 1818. A group of building formed a square 350 feet on each
side around a central patio, which was lined by living gardens, store rooms, work shops and a
guard house. A residence wing, which extends from the church, had 22 arches along the porch.
A walkway on top of the porch served as a balcony, and a second story was added later.
Classrooms ere included in the church since Santa Ines was a center for teaching the Indians about
the Christian God and the European ways. The church was known for many of the special skills

Essay on Alphonse Scarface Capone
Alphonse amp;#8220;Scarface ; Capone
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Alphonse Capone was born on January 17, 1899. He grew up in rough neighborhood in Brooklyn,
NY where he would attend school only up to the sixth grade, when dropped out. Capone got his
nickname amp;#8220;Scarface ; from a knife attack by the brother of a woman whom Capone had
insulted. The attack left him with three scars across his face and a new nickname.
Capone joined his first gang when he became part of the James Street Gang, headed by the well
known Johnny Torrio. In 1920, upon the request of Torrio, Capone went to work for Johnny

Capone was able time and time again to avoid criminal charges, and became a true racketeer, an art
of its own. Ironically, the government finally was able to put Scarface behind bars on charges of
federal income tax evasion. He was sentenced to eleven years in prison. Eleven years that couldn
amp;#8217;t even be saved by the four million dollar bribe offered by Capone amp;#8217;s
attorneys.
In 1934 Capone was transferred to Alcatraz, and in 1939 he was paroled. Suffering from syphilis
that had begun to drive him insane, Capone knew he could no longer run his Chicago empire, so
he retired to his Miami Beach mansion. The exact place where on January 25, 1947 Alphonse

IMPORTANCE IN THE TWENTIES
In 1920 when prohibition became law, a large portion of the population still wanted alcohol. But
not many were willing to put themselves at risk to sell it to others. Some did take advantage of
prohibition, but none more than Al Capone. With the rise of the telephone, the increase of
automobiles, the invention of the Thompson machine guns Capone was able to create an illegal
empire like no other.
When in came to bootlegging during the time of prohibition, Capone knew how to get to people,
and how to make a huge profit out of it. Another thing Capone was good at was avoiding the law.

Voltaire s Use Of Optimism In Candide

the idea of Candide s sheltered life under the philosophies of Pangloss, to then go out in the world
of hardships and witness the imperfections of the outside world.
Pangloss was a man who convinced Candide to believe the passion for maintaining that all is
right when all goes wrong with us (pg.86, Voltaire(Butt)), but throughout the story many things
come up that makes Candide question this optimism. For example, every time he gets close to
living happily ever after with Cunegonde she betrays him, he gets banished, or she is sold to
slavery. As Candide begins to question Pangloss philosophy he watches as Pangloss gets syphilis,

claims that if there is a volcano at Lisbon it could not be anywhere else. For it is impossible for

Mccarthyism And Mccarthyism And The Cold War
McCarthy Trials
Cold War
The Cold War started after World War II around 1947.
The Cold War was an international power struggle between the capitalist United States and its allies
and the communist Soviet Union and its allies.
Both sides were competing for dominance and exploited every chance they could for expansion.
The term cold was used to describe how America and the Soviet Union were not in direct contact,
however used client states to fight for their beliefs such as the incident in Vietnam where the south
was anti communist, supplied by the U.S. and the north was pro communist supplied by communist
Russia or China.
McCarthyism
The term McCarthy Trials is referring to Joseph McCarthy, which was an American politician and
senator.
McCarthy is mostly known for the second red scare in which he claimed that many Communists
and Soviet spies have infiltrated numerous places in the United States including the federal
government.
He also made a claim that he had a list of 205 State Department employees who were members of
the Communist Party and that communist spies were everywhere and Communists were helping to
shape the foreign policies because of this, and basically that he was America s only hope.
He started by accusing low level officials and made his way up.
Fear was a large part of this as a fear of world domination by communists or nuclear holocaust,
especially because the Soviet Union exploded its first A Bomb in 1949 and China became
communist.

Furtebrate Stress Response
Stress can be broadly defined as any stimulus that disrupts homeostasis, with the stress response
referring to physiological and behavioral reactions to such a stimulus (Selye, 1950).In vertebrates
the stress response is an evolutionary conservative process mediated by the HPA axis that allows
organisms to respond rapidly to unpredictable changes in their environment. It is initiated when
higher braincenters perceive endogenous or exogenous noxious stimuli that threaten homeostasis
and culminates in the release of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex. Elevated levels of
circulating glucocorticoids exert a variety of catabolic, antireproductive, anti growth, and
immunosuppressive effects that mobilize and repartition under detailed organisms... Show more

Researchers tend to focus more intensely on perturbations resulting from aversive events. (Novak et
al 2013). A stress response can be describe physiologically as a result of discovery of metabolic,
immunological and neuroendocrine mechanisms. Several hormones including ACTH, glucorticoid,
catecholamines, and prolactin are involved in a stress response. Adrenal glands are essential to
hormonal stress responses because they are involved both hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical
axis and the symphatho adreno medullary system. The most salient physiological responses to
stress include activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) as well as the hypothalamic
pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Accu rate measurement of the catecholamines (i.e., epinephrine and
norepinephrine) released as a result of SNS activation is dif ficult because these substances are
only available for transient periods of time (Reeder and Kramer, 2005). Thus, evaluation of the HPA
axis, most commonly by measurement of its end prod uct glucocorticoids, has traditionally been the
primary means to make inferences about the stress response in animals. (Otovic Hutchinson

The Mermaid And Disney s The Little Mermaid

Andersen s The Little Mermaid vs. Disney s The Little Mermaid:
The Struggle to Find Sexuality Walt Disney s movies have been thrilling young children, most
especially young girls, around the world for years. One specific movie, The Little Mermaid, had
young girls wanting to be just like Ariel and buying any paraphernalia they could after the movie
came out. But have you ever wondered where these stories have come from? Or why they always
end with a happily ever after ? The famous, Danish, children s writer Hans Christian Andersen is the
father of the tale of The Little Mermaid . Andersen s original is quite different than Walt Disney
s happily ever after tale. With differences in imagery, theme, and storyline in Andersen s The
Little Mermaid and Walt Disney s The Little Mermaid, there is a lot to be said for Andersen s
emphasis on the female character of the Little Mermaid as well as her struggle in finding her
sexuality through various different events and aspects of her life. Andersen s tale begins with
the background of the Little Mermaid s life and family. There seems to be a sort of emphasis on
her and her sisters lack of a mother, but rather a grandmother who stands in as mother as well as
a sea king as a father. The lack of a mother is a key part in the growing and maturity of the princess
herself. Finn Hauberg Mortensen, a Danish scholar, says in his criticism The Little Mermaid: Icon

Pip And Magwitch And Money In Great Expectations By...
Throughout Great Expectations, money is a huge force that determines the layout of people s
lives. Although necessary to survive, Charles Dickens shows how too much wealth can be
detrimental for a relationship. This is clearly seen in the relationship between Pip and Magwitch
and also evident in Estella and Miss. Havisham s relationship. The gaining of wealth for
Magwitch is not good for Pip later on. Magwitch gains a fortune working in Australia and sends
it back to Pip in the hopes of making [him] a gentleman (Dickens 321). He feels ownership over
him from that point onwards. In that way, he is rebelling against society with Pip as his pawn.
He also expects an unconditional loyalty from Pip due to the fact that Magwitch is the reason for
him progressing in society. For Pip, the sudden accumulation of wealth is harmful to his character.
He loses sight of who he is and disregards people who have loved him all because of his new status
increase. Pip is no happier with the money and mentions numerous times within Great Expectations
how he feels if he had been left at the forge he would have been far from contented, yet, by
comparison, happy (Dickens 321). Money was something that he had always wished for but was
not the key to happiness, as he had once thought. Magwitch s wealth causes him to disdain Joe, his
original father figure. Pip even looks toward Magwitch in the same light of disgust because of his
past actions. The only reason Pip does not turn Magwitch in

Lifelong Benefits Of Reading
Reading Has Lifelong Benefits
We are alone when we don t read. Lots of people read as a hobby. But have people ever thought of
the lifelong benefits of reading? Reading has many lifelong benefits; therefore, reading is very
fundamental, reading can make some people calmer, and a brain can stay sharp.
Reading is very fundamental. If people read a lot, other places in the brain will increase as well. In
the article The Long Term Effects of Skipping Your Reading Homework, Pamela state s, Reading
makes kids better at math. A british study found that students who read for pleasure not only had
a better vocabulary and spelling which is to be expected but that those students were also more
proficient in math. It makes sense that reading helps kids at math because if they are good at one

The Four Paradigms of Human Existence
In these last months of spring for 2014, the global conflicts have been very prominent. As a
spectator watching these unrests unfold I am lead to consider what is driving this unrest around
the globe. To give cause to these precipitous events one cannot help but try and get to basics first
to help understand who of the great intellects is looking in the right direction on the future of our
world inhabitants. Of the four paradigms, this case of believable results, shows for consideration
to only one predictable paradigm. In defense of stating a clear understanding one must first make
look at the empirical facts and so research and logic first leads us to the understanding of which
of the authors of these four paradigms and what each might have hopefully considered when they
concluded the ideas that they put to articles. Humans, which we will refer to from here forward in
all considerations, have very strong constructs that basic biology reveals Self actualization,
Esteem, Love and Belonging, Safety, and Physiological existence (Kurt Goldstein s book The
Organism). The first, self actualization is basically the purpose to understand one s full potential,
Esteem is the need to feel respected; this includes the need to have ones own self esteem and self
respect. Esteem also portrays the typical human desire to be accepted and valued by others. Love
and belonging is next and human requirements are always interpersonal and involve thoughts of
belongingness which leads us

Answer the following questions:
a. What makes Arundel think it can make money by buying a package of sequel rights? Is the

Arundel can make money selling the rights to a higher bid. Another option to make money is by

Kudzu Argumentative Essay
1876 was a year to remember in the American culture. During this year at the Centennial
Exposition in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, we as Americans were introduced to many wonders that
we still use or come in contact with today. For example the telephone or the type writer, though
the make and uses of these devices have changed, if it were not for the exposition who knows
what we as Americans would be utilizing today. But not all items introduced at the exposition
continued to be beneficial to the everyday American. Some items would later become more of a
nuisance rather than a benefit to the country for the decades to follow. What item might you ask
this would be? That item would be Kudzu. Kudzu is a fast growing vine from eastern Asia. This

Eventually this news spread and in the 1970 s the government declared Kudzu a weed, or a wild
plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants. (3) Then in 1998
Kudzu was declared a noxious weed or a plant considered harmful to both animals and the
environment. (4) Kudzu now infest 31 states. This vine now covers 7 million acres in the United
States. The cost of the damage caused by this plant has surpassed the 100 million dollar mark and
continues to grow. Because of this, Kudzu is now banned in four states. Getting rid of Kudzu is
a difficult task but not impossible. Over the years we have also discovered there are many
alternatives Kudzu can be used for. For instance the blossoms are used in teas, the leaves can be
eaten similar to turnip greens, food for livestock, and is even being used as an herbal supplement
for recovering alcoholics. While we search and find many other uses for Kudzu, the problem of its
quick growth and abundance in the US remains. Scientist continue to look for solutions to this

Corning Glass Work Case Study
CORNINGS GLASS WORKS CASE STUDY
1. Enumerate the conditions why Corning had to undergo the series of structural changes.
Following the international growth and expansion of Corning, the following problems were being
faced in the organization s structure and management processes:
i) With the international expansion of CGW, the company was becoming too big and complex to be
managed by its current structure. Hence a need was felt to create the international arm as a separate
legal entity and hence Corning International Corporation (CIC) was born.
ii) CIC was created as a subsidiary to CGW to emphasize the growing importance of Corning s
overseas business. The management felt that the creation of CIC as a ... Show more content on

vii) Furthermore, the capital allocation process also changed following the majority shareholding
in foreign subsidiaries. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was
done primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the
capital on their own.
However, after these subsidiaries were acquired by Corning, they were required to submit a
formal capital appropriation request prepared in English. The subsidiary general manager then
had to chase it to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. This allocation
system had other major implications on the relationship between the technical personnel on each
side. Whereas before, the technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to
subsidiaries on projects, the former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on
the capital allocation to these subsidiaries. As a result, the technical managers tended to become
more conservative with their advice and assistance to the subsidiaries. viii) Due to the incoherency
of its area based organization structure, CIC found itself grappling with the global marketing
coordination necessary for some businesses. There was no one who was responsible for
coordinating between different foreign subsidiaries on global actions like price, product, sourcing
etc. The needs of global product development were not being communicated to the R amp;D

The Slave Ship Turner Analysis
Man holds the power of choice. We are gifted the power to control ourselves, which can be
extended to control others. Brit Joseph Mallord William Turner channeled his unique power
through a paintbrush, globally inspiring others through his landscapist compositions. Turner s The
Slave Ship, originally titled Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying Typhon coming on,
immediately captivates me with its meticulously placed oranges, reds, browns, and blues. Yet, my
intrigue in mysteries and puzzles is piqued by the deeper meanings hidden in the murky ocean
waves where slaves and sea creatures clash. These facets, combined with the historical basis, form
an emotion stirring Romantic oil painting. Through its purposeful use of warm and... Show more

These images pull at our insides to incite change based on feelings of disgust and horror that the
painting invokes. The ship, placed at mid level in the painting, still draws the viewer s attention, but
does not invoke the same amount of sympathy. Yet, these conflicting points are relatively miniscule
compared to the power of nature. This further points to the helplessness of human beings,
regardless of race, in the face of nature, as nature triumphs over the greatest perceived powers of
man. Man, being a part of nature though, contributes to the panoramic view of nature as a whole;
there is beauty, horror, peace, chaos. Turner s The Slave Ship effectively encompasses all of these
facets, revealing nature as multitudinous and all encompassing.
The Slave Ship evokes cries, pleas, shouts, moans, and hurts. The indistinct brushstrokes reflect the
overall ambiguity of the world and the extent to which our imaginations act. Yet, sufferings of any
kind are reality. But, rising movements inspire actions seeking amelioration. Regardless of the good
or evil qualities of humans, we are all subject to something greater, something that minimizes our
actual size in proportion to the beauty, disaster, and chaos of the sundry universe. We all have the
power to influence the universe, but the universe maintains power

What Is St Mary s County Essay
St Mary s county is considered to be part of the Western Shore and extends from Charlotte Hall to
its most Southern tip at Point Lookout. The peninsula is bordered by the Potomac Rivers, the
Patuxent River on the northeast and the Chesapeake Bay to the east making it an ideal spot for
abundant water activities such as fishing, jet skiing, water skiing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
The concern is that the access to these waterways is limited, especially in Leonardtown. Local water

Including the roadway will make it more efficient for boaters to get their boat in the water and
so that kayakers and paddle boarders don t have to lug their heavy and awkward shaped craft a
couple hundred feet anymore. To use the launch and slips, a permit is needed which will be
granted from the town. This fixture will be a convenience and will be a much nicer upgrade to the
kayak launch at the wharf now. Currently there is a 6 x 6 soft launch that serves as an access point
to the water. It is very unstable and remains submerged during high tide. According to Gabrielle
Giovenco, a local kayaker/paddle boarder, the launch is positioned to far distance from the
parking lot and is unstable which makes it difficult to safely launch you re vessel. The dock is
also black which makes it very difficult to stand on in the summer when the sun is at its peak.
The constant burn on my feet is terrible. (Giovenco, Gabrielle) Following a six month analysis of
different style docks/launches, I have determined that a floating dock with boat slips, a fishing
area, and a launch for kayaks and canoes would be the better fit for the Wharf than a hard dock. It
will not only address current concerns, but it will also allow for future expansion at the Wharf site.
When entering from Washington Street the new dock will remain in its current location resulting in
less of an inconvenience for everyone.

My Experience At The Florida Gulf Coast Lacrosse League...
With the blow of a whistle, practice comes to a grinding halt. Tired young men remove their
helmets and gasp for air in the early but oppressive Florida summer. I gather with the rest of the
coaching staff and together we prepare one of our final talks to the team before they battle in the
Florida Gulf Coast Lacrosse League Championship game. In the six months leading to this final
surge, myself and the other coaches have worked to instill four key traits into our players:
teamwork, dedication, integrity, and respect. It is these four qualities, we believe, that will
allow them to develop a fifth quality, technical competence, and take them to the top of their
sport. More importantly, it is these four traits that we believe will transform them into mature
young men and prepare them for the rigors of life off of the field. Many of my life s most
significant events coincided with my coaching career. I opened a business, went back to school,
and even met my wife. It also marks the period of my life when I began a maturation process,
albeit several years overdue. Prior to the start of my coaching, I stumbled from one phase of my
life to another, my immaturity and lack of direction fueling each other in a vicious cycle. While
coaching may not have been the event that triggered my maturation, it certainly signified the
beginning of a new era in my life, an era punctuated by a renewed understanding and appreciation
of the same traits I worked to pass onto my players. During

The Catholic Church And The Church
The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance,
forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church
are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking
about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a
few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state
of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government.
There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early
Europe, this was not the case. The Catholic Churchhad great influence on the government. The
church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With
Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly
Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had
power over the military, who had access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws,
and almost anything else one could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert
anyone who was not Christian into a Christian as a way of gaining power. The inquisitionordered
conquistadores to find and conquer lands which could be used to cultivate Spanish wealth and
spread Catholicism.2 In this sense, the church s power

The title character of Mozart s Don Giovanni embodies a figure that holds few ethical values, is
wealthy, and endlessly seduces various women. With the use of his servant, Leporello, Don
Giovanni is able to evade women who would like to marry him, such as Donna Elvira. Due to his
treacherous actions, at the end of the opera, Don Giovanniis forced to decide between accepting his
fate in hell, or renouncing his former lifestyle by ceasing his pursuit of women. Despite the dark

Interestingly, the melody that Don Giovanni uses to serenade Donna Elvira s maid with, is
similar to the melody he used to woo Donna Elvira at 1:16 in the trio. However, the mandolin he
used to serenade the maid with makes the piece more playful, in comparison to Donna Elvira s
song. By reusing the same melody, Don Giovanni can be seen as using the same tricks to seduce
women. It seems even more heartbreaking for Donna Elvira, because while she believes the
words sung by Don Giovanni are only meant for her, Don Giovanni uses them on her own maid.
The end of the scene reconfirms Don Giovanni s role as the trickster, and reconfirms Don Elvira s
role as a woman who was easily

Samsung sent 17 designers to the Art Center College of Design to broaden their ideas about

Isabel Allene s Gold Rush In Daughter Of Fortune
When gold was discovered in 1848, a gold rush was created. James Marshall discovered it at Sutter
s Mill. People from around the world came to find gold for themselves and strike it rich. People
left their belongings and their families behind for a chance to find gold. Many people who came to
California did not find gold and lost most of their money. Before this California was relatively small
in population. Many towns in California that were small turned into boomtowns. Boomtowns were
cities which population grew exponentially. San Francisco had a population of 200 residents and
then grew to over 30,000 people during the gold rush. With all the people coming in, violence,
gangs, prostitution, and land destruction arose.

They committed hate crimes against the other races. Each ethnic group made their own

The Ones That Are Wanted By Corinne Kratz
The Ones That Are Wanted , comes from an expression used by an Okiek elder examining
Corinne Kratz s photographs, to describe his people living in Kenya s western highlands. This
book follows Kratz s travelling exhibition of anthropological photographs produced with the
purpose to dissect the complexities that surround cultural representation. She does so by telling
a vivid story, which is emphasised through her use of photographs, description the Okiek life
history, the reasons for her photographic exhibition from its start in the 1980 s, to its public
release in 1989 at Nairobi s National Museum in Kenya, which went on to be displayed in seven
venues across the United States. The book is divided into two main sections, the first which
examines the replication of her photographic exhibitions and the second which examines the
museum exhibitions as events, objects, and interactive processes (Kratz, C. 2002: pg. 91), with
the penultimate aim to challenge stereotypes which had developed in postcolonial societies of
the Okiek people being primitive . To do this she uses a variety of interesting methods, which
include interviews with visitors, the Okiek s personal perspectives on her photographs, and
numerous articles, papers and books which explore the scope of her exhibitions at each venue to
help achieve her aim. Kratz s book does not simply describe and explain her work with the Okiek,

Although the organization survived the financial downturn of 2008 2009 in the home building
and selling market to which it is closely tied, it stayed true to the foundations of the parent
company, John Deere who has utilized a very conservative approach to growth over the years.
Here again with the infusion of new capital and a mission to grow the company might pull away
from its core and begin to feel that success is a guaranteed outcome. The leaders of the
organization must continue to evaluate why they are successful. Feeding the primary flywheel is
important and continually asking why is this working are key to keeping knowledge growing.
When constant reexamination occurs and the tough questions are truthfully answered it becomes
much harder for arrogance to take hold. Because of this it becomes more difficult to stray from
the path of discipline which is covered in step 2. Markers for stage 2 relate back to discipline and
these are the areas that a company that is in a growth pattern must pay close attention. Any

I Am A Man On Social Media
There was a soft wind blowing that morning. The birds were chirping in the trees and the glow of
the rising sun tinted the sky with shades of yellow and orange. As I walked to the car, I could feel
the soft breeze pass through my hair so gently as if an angel ran its fingers through each strand. I
paused for a moment to enjoy that delightful feelingbefore I began my journey to work.
On the way to work, began to think of the guy that has stolen my heart. Every song that played
reminded me of him. As I listened to Baby, Hold on to me by Gerald Levert, I began to envision
us looking into each other s eyes and slowly dancing the night away. I met this wonderful man on

Examples Of Symbolic Interactionism Of Marijuana
Marijuana is a very well known and commonly used drug. Yet, there are many different attitudes and
meanings attached to it. So why is there such a variation in people s attitudes towards marijuana.
This can be explained and understood by using the symbolic interactionism theory. Marijuana is a
very controversial topic among Americans and much research has been done regarding it. The Pew
Research Center has gathered information on the opinions Americans have towards the legalization
of marijuana. The data shows what percentage of Americans think it should be legal or not. There
is also data on reasons why they have their opinions and meanings toward marijuana. This data
helps to further understand and apply this theory to the use of marijuana.
Symbolic interactionism perspective is a theory that is used to study social life. To do this, this
theory relies on studying and observing the interactions among people and how they form meanings
to things from those interactions. Although, there is much more to this theory than that. Blumer,
the man who invented the term symbolic interactionism, presented three premises which help to
understand this theory. The first one is, people act a certain way towards things depending on their
meaning for that thing. The second premise is that we get meanings from social interaction, so we
are taught meanings or we witness them from others. Lastly, the third premise is that meanings are
able to change because people have the mental capacity to

Trotsky stayed there four years, despite the large number of former anti revolutionary (White

Trotsky then lived with his family and bodyguards at Royan, then at Barbizon, and through

Medicare
Imagine your grandmother, alone in her apartment sick and no food to eat. Well, there are
programs our government provides to our elderly to help them buy food, find a place to live and
most importantly, help insure them. Medicare is a program that was initially created by Harry S.
Truman in 1948, but Congress failed to enact it ( Curing the Health Care System ). Later it was
refined by LBJ in 1965 as part of Great Society to help the war on poverty . Medicare benefits
millions of senior citizens over 65 by giving them free health care or helping pay part of it. Before
Medicare there was private insurance that helped people, but with Medicare a lot more people have
access to health insurance. Today, Medicare provides over 52.3 million Americans with affordable
health insurance.
The government started taking action to help the elderly through social problems in the mid 19th
century. In May of 1964, Johnson had summed up his grand vision for America in a speech at the
University of Michigan, he declared that the Great Society demands an end to poverty and racial
injustice... just the beginning (Johnson). Before LBJ and Congress brought about the first major

examines the relationship between the demise of the Minoan Civilizationand the natural disasters it
encountered which severely weakened and eventually led to the downfall of the civilization, and
opened the way for Mycenaean domination of Aegean (Middleton, G.D., 2012).
The Minoan Civilization was a civilization of the Bronze Age which arose in the island of Crete,
Greece and flourished from around 2600 BC to 1100 BC. It is considered to be the first
advanced civilization in Europe, where the Minoans formed complex and vibrant societies
consisting of warriors, merchants, artists, farmers, sailors, sea traders and all kinds of people.
They were also the first to use a written language in Europe, namely Linear A. Despite how
intelligent these people were, the Minoan Civilization collapsed at its peak of splendor in 1450
BC, leaving traces of its grandeur and essential clues to their legend.
The most popular theory to their collapse is associated with the tremendous eruption of Thera.

Gary Soto Accomplishments

Gary Soto
Gary Soto was an amazing poet. He was quite famous and had many achievements throughout his
current life. His poems are easy to understand and literal. The poems are usually about events that
have happened to him. Soto is definitely a great poet whose style of writing is unique.
Gary Soto was born on April 12, 1952. He was raised in Fresno, California. Married to Carolyn
Oda, he s now 63 years old. Gary had a tough childhood. His father died when he was five years
old. Soto received very little motivation from his family. As a result of this, he did poorly in school.
But, during high school he found an interest in poetry. Soto received the 1993 Andrew Carnegie
Medal for Film Excellence when he produced the film The Pool Party . He also attended Fresno
City College, and California State University. There, he earned his B.A degree in English. At the
University of California, Irvine, Soto did graduate work in poetry. He was also the first Mexican
American to earn an M.F.A. in 1976. Gary Soto had a hard childhood but made it up through his
achievements in writing and school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His poetry focuses on past or daily experiences throughout his life. One of his poems mentioned
him when he was twelve years old. Another mentioned his dream of moving away from home. His
topics seem random, in the sense that there is no clear connection between the poems. The only
thing that connects the poems is that Soto had experienced the topic of the poem. Another thing
these poems have in common is the fact that most of them are relatable. Overall, Gary Soto s
poetry was interesting with a neat style of

Ford Motor Company s Movement
Ford Motor Company s movement in a global market is the next frontier in the world of business;
its overall objectives are clear and concise. However, the implementation, development, and
execution strategy are complicated, consisting of many layers, with the proper performance one
can only hope the end result is concise operations, established market share, and profitability. Our
company will move forward with a strategy to out preform, produce, and provide a competitive
product in global markets. The company will need a working and functional operation plain that

With an ultramodern marketing technique to a targeted audience, our brand recognition has the
capability of being largely profound amongst many diverse customer bases.
Our recommended strategy will allow for us to sell goods on a global market with little to none
local adjustments to the end product. Therefore, our products will be produced in full prior to
embarkation, then two key locations for distribution; all production will take place in one
central location. A global strategy in the auto industry drives markets in a uniform fashion; the
production of automobiles from region to region is effectively allowing managers to achieve
optimal effectiveness and profitable gains within a global market. One of many key objectives
is to see the world as one large, diverse market; furthermore, our goals are to implement an
extreme cost reduction in production while champing a robust and solid design. A firm has a
good reputation if consumers believe its products/services to be of high quality. Since service
attributes cannot be observed prior to purchase, consumers use the perceived quality of services
produced by the firm in the past as an indicator of present or future quality. In such cases a firm s
decision to produce high quality services is a dynamic one O Farrell,

Bending Space and Time Essay
The bending of time and space is usually reserved for science fiction and the dreams of young
kids who enjoy the thoughts and fantasy of being great space captains and saving the galaxy.
Now if we imagine both time and space being physical things, thing that could be changed, or
bent, to our will, we will get the basis of the idea we are trying to present. Spaceis already viewed as
physical, as space doesn t necessarily mean the Final Frontier but as the area around us and all
that it contains, but we don t have the capability of being able to alter it in any great way, only use
it has it was given to us. Timeis seen not as a thing at all, but a perception of the world, or space,
around us and how it moves and travels, depending on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Now bend that paper in half so those two points are right on top of each other and imagine (since
you can t draw this one) the line representing the new shortest distance. Now consider, if you will,
being able to do with actual space itself. Bending the entire universe, and this time I mean
physically bending it to be able to change the shortest distance to such a distance that it s like
being able to take a step there, but since physically bending it is even weirder, we re
metaphysically bending it by sending broken up particles to another point where they will be
reconstructed into the item originally broken up. One could even argue that in this process the
original is copied and destroyed and an entirely new one walks away, or if it isn t a live thing, a
new one is obtained, but in such perfect detail to the original, or if this isn t its first time it s
gone, a perfect copy of another perfect copy, meaning that there would be no complications
caused by moving a copy. But we re humans, and once this technology is real, it is my own
personal belief that this won t be a perfect process. So space is a physical thing that can be
represented by say, a piece of paper, and then that piece of paper can be physically bent to describe
the physical to metaphysical relationship to how it works when someone would bend it to make the
shortest distance between the two points event shorter. Now we can discuss how time works, which
is as much a question of

Stewardship Of The Army Profession Essay
Stewardship of the Army Profession is the last of the Five Essential Characteristics of the Army
Profession, but in terms of importance, it is just as, if not more important than the other four.
The United States Army s ADRP 1, or Army Doctrinal Reference Publication 1, even defines
stewardship as the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its
five essential characteristics now and into the future . Such importance is placed on this
characteristic because Stewardship of the Army Profession is the one that ensures the other four
are maintained. I sought out the definition of stewardship because despite having spent almost
three and a half years and West Point, I was not entirely sure what the doctrine behind
Stewardship was. In doing this, I felt like I was better prepared for both this paper and ensuring
that the corrections I made were stewarding the profession. With this newly acquired knowledge,
I set out to make my corrections. My first correction for this assignment came from doing my job
as First Sergeant for my company. The correction involved three different cadets, Cadet Private
Michael Avallone, Cadet Private Brian Brooks, and Cadet Private Riley Eck. On 2 October 2016,
the above stated cadets witnessed a cadet from a rival company running around Grant Area with
company spirit gear. These cadets decided to go outside and get into a physical altercation with the
cadet from the rival company in order to take the company spirit

How To Write An Analytical Essay On Chinese Cinderella
Lauren Connolly

Analytical research paper
Culture is similar to personality. In a person, the personality is made up of the values, beliefs,
underlying assumptions, interests, and experiences that create a person s behavior. Culture is made
up of the values, beliefs, underlying assumptions, attitudes and behaviors shared by a group of
people. Culture is the behavior that results when a group arrives at a set of rules for working
together. Chinese Cinderella; an autobiography written by Adeline Yen Mah expresses the Chinese
culture through Yen Mah s personal experiences as a child. In Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah

Adeline comes home from her first week of kindergarten, all smiles because she had been
chosen to lead the class and has received a medal and a certificate for her achievement. Her aunt
Baba is full of pride and files the certificate and medal in her safe deposit box. She described the
certificate as some precious jewel impossible to replace (page 2). Adelines academic achievements
are how she eventually gains acceptance within an uncaring family. She had a lot of pride over the
metal it shows the sadness she is facing everyday, with her siblings hating her achievements and
her dad only caring when she receives them. I was winning the medal every week and wearing it
constantly. I knew this displeased my siblings, especially Big Sister and Second Brother, but it
was the only way to make Father take notice and be proud of me (page 15). Adeline starts to
mature when she starts to realize that her achievements should only matter if it makes her happy,
not just her father. Adeline s parents threaten to move her to a far away school. Adeline is elected
class president. Everyone is excited, her classmates and more importantly her. Her classmates

Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay
Hormone Replacement Therapy in Transgendering the FTM Transsexual
Gender may well be the most defining factor in the spectrum of elements that comprise the human
persona. In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of
being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular
belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at
different times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormonereplacement
therapy involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric,
psychological, and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show

Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual
Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex
characteristics of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and
external genitalia, sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex
steroids. Hormonal reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the
hormonally induced secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new
sex.
Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a
deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and
male pattern baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain,
increased social and sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass.
Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the
endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This
signals the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser
degree, GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
Subsequently, LH and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and
release hormones that cause

Rolling Stones Influence On Society
During their half a century as a band, the Rolling Stones have released twenty nine studio albums,
eighteen live albums, numerous videos, concert films and compilations. In 2014, their albums have
sold an estimated 250 million (Jennie Wood, The Lasting Influence of the Rolling Stones. ). They
have dominated the music industry with their well known energetic live performances to wild
reputations offstage, but perhaps the bands most impressive achievement is that after fifty years
they are still going strong with no end in sight. But how is this possible? The key to The Rolling
Stoneseverlasting sustainability rides on the distinctive masculinity of their image, their innovative
and original style of music, and timelessness of their music.... Show more content on

Timeless or not? In many cases, most of the music are only popular in the time it was released.
For example, Who let the dogs out? sung by Baha Men topped the charts on UK Singles Chart,
Australia, New Zealand, and reached top forty of the charts in United States, being the Britain s
fourth biggest selling single of 2000 ( Who Let The Dogs Out ) right after it was released in
2000. But within eight years, it was denounced both by the public and media, ranking first on
Spinner s 2008 list of Top 20 Worst Songs Ever . Indeed, the public was equally mesmerized or at
least to a similar extent by such up to date, streamlined music. However, after a short period of
time, they vanish away from the public, leaving almost no trace of their once acknowledged lyrics
and music style. Rolling Stones, on the other hand, were not easily affected by music trends. This
was the most important reason why the Rolling Stones could be the longest lasting rock band in
the world, being a favorite of many for decades due to its timeless quality of

Social Media And Internet Privacy
It took the radio 38 years, the television 13 years, and the World Wide Web 4 years to reach 50
million users (Statistic Brain). As of September 2017, research now shows that there are over a
billion people worldwide who use the internet. People utilize the internet because it offers endless
unfettered access to copious quantities of diverse data. Statistics confirm that 58% of people have
at least one social network profile, revealing that social media plays a significant part in the internet
world. The reason for this is that social networks are portrayed as an ideal method to keep up with
family and friends; especially if those mentioned live far away. What the internet and social
networks doesn t reveal, but rather conceals, is the monstrous lack of secrecy they possess. Until
preventive methods are established by either the government or an individual; the internet will
continue to obtain and distribute individuals private information to various networks; whether with
or without consent.
Jim Harper s essay Web Users Get as Much as They Give, approaches the internet privacy
controversy with the reap what you sow mentality. Harper explains that people freely provide
intimate information in exchange for the steady flow of unlimited free material. Harper says that is
good and natural to be concerned about internet privacy, because [t]he internet is an interactive
medium, not a static one like television . . . the information Web surfers send out can be revealing

  • 2. Social Media s Impact On Public Relations Social media forums have had a positive impact on the Public Relations industry in the twenty first century. The massive increase in social media usage has provided a medium by which it is easier to connect with a larger audience worldwide. This has resulted in an adoption of social media strategies for many PR specialists. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow these specialists to keep up with the public s opinions on current events as well as promote businesses or products. The public relationsindustry is very different from advertising. While advertisers pay for exposure and visual aids, PR specialists use language and conferences to earn the trust of the public. According to the Public Relations Society of America Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics. PR specialists are image shapers and storytellers that can be used to enhance, protect, and build reputations through any form of media or self created production. If the news is bad, they formulate the best response to reduce the damage. Their job is to create positive publicity for their client as well as enhance their reputation. Public relations specialists over the years have had to stay on top of the changes in communication in order to adapt for the sake of their business. Before all these new forms of media, the humble fax machine was depended on to send press releases. Most early PR ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rock And A Hard Place Between a Rock and a Hard Place seems to be quite an appropriate title for this HBO documentary whose executive producer and star is Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Young men with serious criminal charges and significant prison sentences are provided a second chance by participating in the Miami Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department s Boot Camp Program in place of serving their entire prisonsentence. Dwayne Johnson greets 38 cadets starting the program, lectures them on their opportunity and asserts that he wants the world to see the importance of the program. Lastly, he tells them bluntly, not to ...f**k this up. (Rock and a Hard Place). For most people it would appear that participating in this 16 week program would be easier... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this insight, I found that every participant to be likable on some level and was able to see that the program increased the cadets strength of their character and their resolve. The documentary covers the support the program supplies for its participants through the various exercises, counseling sessions, classes and work opportunities. The program offers each of these benefits at different phases. The documentary presents each participant in a way that it is difficult not to find some way to relate to each of them and to even care for them or their sense of purpose. Notably, the program appears thorough with its design to offer support systems and provides various means of addressing potential obstacles of a cadets success, such as lack of education, lack of support from family, anger management and substance abuse. Even so, a viewer cannot help but question some of the harsh treatment. For example, in the beginning you are introduced to two young men who struggle with understanding the English commands that a drill instructor is barking at them. Later within the documentary, these same cadets are taken aside and told they are expected to work harder to overcome the challenge of not understanding English. Towards the end one cadet ends up breaking down sobbing because he fails one of his critical tests towards graduation, due to the language barrier. Though there are classes to help the participants learn to prepare for a GED, there are no tools to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbolism In Whale Rider In the film Whale Rider, the whale represents life and death. The whale represents life because it is the mammal on which Paikea s great ancestor rode across the ocean reaching New Zealand which eventually became the settlement of the Maori people. The whale represents death because the Maori people would not be on the island they live on if Paikea the great ancestor had not ridden the whaleto the secluded island in the Pacific. The whale is not only a mean of transportation of the great ancestor but a symbolism of how their culture thrives just on their existence. The Maori people would not be alive on the island of New Zealandif it hadn t been for their great ancestor who was the original whale rider. The whale helps film viewers recognize Pai s leadership abilities in the ending scenes as the whole community come together to try and save a pod of beached whale. Koro, Pai s grandfather originally finds them as he is on his way to her school performance when he notices them all along the beach in the dark of night. The community comes together in efforts to free the whales so Koro who is the chief takes charge and instructs everyone to help move the whale closest to the water in hope that the other will follow. Being the chief of the community, he has a special connection with the whale he chose to move because it s the leader of the pod. Everyone gathers around the one whale and tries to move it to no avail even with the help of a tractor. Pai is overseeing everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The portraying of the negative aspects of life results in social tensions and ambigous attitudes towards children s fiction. Books are criticized for being inappropriate for children, and consequently attacked for their improper values. However, together with the changing attitude to childhood, the legacy of children s literature is established with the works of the following writers: Lewis Carroll and Edith Nesbit, Louisa May Alcott and Mark Twain(Hunt, 2001:13). Literature for boys and girls in the 19th century Literature aimed at young readers can be divided into two categories, namely, novels classified as books for boys and books for girls . These novels can be contrasted and there are visible differences between them. However, the novels for girls in many respects may be the opposite of the books for boys . The action usually takes place on the set of relationships. There are many descriptions of characters and everyday situations, and ethical choices are often ambiguous. • 16. Mccarthyism And Mccarthyism And The Cold War McCarthy Trials Cold War The Cold War started after World War II around 1947. The Cold War was an international power struggle between the capitalist United States and its allies and the communist Soviet Union and its allies. Both sides were competing for dominance and exploited every chance they could for expansion. The term cold was used to describe how America and the Soviet Union were not in direct contact, however used client states to fight for their beliefs such as the incident in Vietnam where the south was anti communist, supplied by the U.S. and the north was pro communist supplied by communist Russia or China. McCarthyism The term McCarthy Trials is referring to Joseph McCarthy, which was an American politician and senator. McCarthy is mostly known for the second red scare in which he claimed that many Communists and Soviet spies have infiltrated numerous places in the United States including the federal government. He also made a claim that he had a list of 205 State Department employees who were members of the Communist Party and that communist spies were everywhere and Communists were helping to shape the foreign policies because of this, and basically that he was America s only hope. It is initiated when higher braincenters perceive endogenous or exogenous noxious stimuli that threaten homeostasis and culminates in the release of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex. A stress response can be describe physiologically as a result of discovery of metabolic, immunological and neuroendocrine mechanisms. Several hormones including ACTH, glucorticoid, catecholamines, and prolactin are involved in a stress response. Adrenal glands are essential to hormonal stress responses because they are involved both hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis and the symphatho adreno medullary system. The most salient physiological responses to stress include activation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) as well as the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Accu rate measurement of the catecholamines (i.e., epinephrine and norepinephrine) released as a result of SNS activation is dif ficult because these substances are only available for transient periods of time (Reeder and Kramer, 2005). Thus, evaluation of the HPA axis, most commonly by measurement of its end prod uct glucocorticoids, has traditionally been the primary means to make inferences about the stress response in animals. That very truth is what shows us the meaning and value of living Value is both immeasurable and measurable at the same time meaning it is something you can t put a number on but feel within your mind. Value is only measured truly once the object or person is lost. Once something is gone you finally realise how much that object or person meant to you, which is when the eyes of the community can see the worth of the person in their life. Value is one of the aspects of life that is seemingly uncontrollable, an emotiononly controlled by the eyes of the community. • 19. The Mermaid And Disney s The Little Mermaid Michele M. Burns Professor Cipri Imaginative Literature 30 April 2013 Andersen s The Little Mermaid vs. Disney s The Little Mermaid: The Struggle to Find Sexuality Walt Disney s movies have been thrilling young children, most especially young girls, around the world for years. One specific movie, The Little Mermaid, had young girls wanting to be just like Ariel and buying any paraphernalia they could after the movie came out. But have you ever wondered where these stories have come from? Or why they always end with a happily ever after ? The famous, Danish, children s writer Hans Christian Andersen is the father of the tale of The Little Mermaid . Andersen s original is quite different than Walt Disney s happily ever after tale. With differences in imagery, theme, and storyline in Andersen s The Little Mermaid and Walt Disney s The Little Mermaid, there is a lot to be said for Andersen s emphasis on the female character of the Little Mermaid as well as her struggle in finding her sexuality through various different events and aspects of her life. Andersen s tale begins with the background of the Little Mermaid s life and family. There seems to be a sort of emphasis on her and her sisters lack of a mother, but rather a grandmother who stands in as mother as well as a sea king as a father. The lack of a mother is a key part in the growing and maturity of the princess herself. Finn Hauberg Mortensen, a Danish scholar, says in his criticism The Little Mermaid: Icon ... • 20. Pip And Magwitch And Money In Great Expectations By... Throughout Great Expectations, money is a huge force that determines the layout of people s lives. Although necessary to survive, Charles Dickens shows how too much wealth can be detrimental for a relationship. This is clearly seen in the relationship between Pip and Magwitch and also evident in Estella and Miss. Havisham s relationship. The gaining of wealth for Magwitch is not good for Pip later on. Magwitch gains a fortune working in Australia and sends it back to Pip in the hopes of making [him] a gentleman (Dickens 321). He feels ownership over him from that point onwards. In that way, he is rebelling against society with Pip as his pawn. He also expects an unconditional loyalty from Pip due to the fact that Magwitch is the reason for him progressing in society. For Pip, the sudden accumulation of wealth is harmful to his character. He loses sight of who he is and disregards people who have loved him all because of his new status increase. Pip is no happier with the money and mentions numerous times within Great Expectations how he feels if he had been left at the forge he would have been far from contented, yet, by comparison, happy (Dickens 321). Money was something that he had always wished for but was not the key to happiness, as he had once thought. Magwitch s wealth causes him to disdain Joe, his original father figure. Pip even looks toward Magwitch in the same light of disgust because of his past actions. The only reason Pip does not turn Magwitch in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reading has many lifelong benefits; therefore, reading is very fundamental, reading can make some people calmer, and a brain can stay sharp. Reading is very fundamental. If people read a lot, other places in the brain will increase as well. In the article The Long Term Effects of Skipping Your Reading Homework, Pamela state s, Reading makes kids better at math. A british study found that students who read for pleasure not only had a better vocabulary and spelling which is to be expected but that those students were also more proficient in math. It makes sense that reading helps kids at math because if they are good at one subject, then they can be good at multiple subjects. When people read, it can improve their spelling and vocabulary because the more words they read, the more words they could learn. If someone doesn t know a word, then they might look the word up and figure out what the word means. Then they will possibly have learned a new word. Pamela DeLoatch wrote that reading can boost self esteem and communication skills, One educated provider says that since students who read usually have enhanced vocabulary, they can often find the words to express themselves and do not feel as frustrated and angry. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was done primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the capital on their own. However, after these subsidiaries were acquired by Corning, they were required to submit a formal capital appropriation request prepared in English. The subsidiary general manager then had to chase it to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. This allocation system had other major implications on the relationship between the technical personnel on each side. Whereas before, the technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to subsidiaries on projects, the former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on the capital allocation to these subsidiaries. As a result, the technical managers tended to become more conservative with their advice and assistance to the subsidiaries. viii) Due to the incoherency of its area based organization structure, CIC found itself grappling with the global marketing coordination necessary for some businesses. Brit Joseph Mallord William Turner channeled his unique power through a paintbrush, globally inspiring others through his landscapist compositions. Turner s The Slave Ship, originally titled Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying Typhon coming on, immediately captivates me with its meticulously placed oranges, reds, browns, and blues. The ship, placed at mid level in the painting, still draws the viewer s attention, but does not invoke the same amount of sympathy. This further points to the helplessness of human beings, regardless of race, in the face of nature, as nature triumphs over the greatest perceived powers of man. Man, being a part of nature though, contributes to the panoramic view of nature as a whole; there is beauty, horror, peace, chaos. Turner s The Slave Ship effectively encompasses all of these facets, revealing nature as multitudinous and all encompassing. The Slave Ship evokes cries, pleas, shouts, moans, and hurts. The indistinct brushstrokes reflect the overall ambiguity of the world and the extent to which our imaginations act. Yet, sufferings of any kind are reality. But, rising movements inspire actions seeking amelioration. Tired young men remove their helmets and gasp for air in the early but oppressive Florida summer. I gather with the rest of the coaching staff and together we prepare one of our final talks to the team before they battle in the Florida Gulf Coast Lacrosse League Championship game. In the six months leading to this final surge, myself and the other coaches have worked to instill four key traits into our players: teamwork, dedication, integrity, and respect. It is these four qualities, we believe, that will allow them to develop a fifth quality, technical competence, and take them to the top of their sport. More importantly, it is these four traits that we believe will transform them into mature young men and prepare them for the rigors of life off of the field. Many of my life s most significant events coincided with my coaching career. I opened a business, went back to school, and even met my wife. It also marks the period of my life when I began a maturation process, albeit several years overdue. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The Catholic Churchhad great influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them. So why is there such a variation in people s attitudes towards marijuana. This can be explained and understood by using the symbolic interactionism theory. Marijuana is a very controversial topic among Americans and much research has been done regarding it. The Pew Research Center has gathered information on the opinions Americans have towards the legalization of marijuana. The data shows what percentage of Americans think it should be legal or not. There is also data on reasons why they have their opinions and meanings toward marijuana. This data helps to further understand and apply this theory to the use of marijuana. To do this, this theory relies on studying and observing the interactions among people and how they form meanings to things from those interactions. Although, there is much more to this theory than that. Blumer, the man who invented the term symbolic interactionism, presented three premises which help to understand this theory. The first one is, people act a certain way towards things depending on their meaning for that thing. The focus of this paper is to document the downfall of Trotsky, with particular emphasis on his conflict with Joseph Stalin and subsequent exile from The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), as well as the final years of his life and assassination. To understand why Trotsky was exiled from the USSR is to understand the major points of contention in his relationship with Stalin. In the latter months of 1921, Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Russian Communist Party and first head of the Soviet state, had become seriously ill (as a result of his hyperacusis and... Trotsky was internally exiled to Alma Ata in Kazakhstan on January 31, 1928, and following his expulsion from the Soviet Union, he was deported to Turkey (Germany refused to take him) with his wife and son in February 1929. With Trotsky gone, his supporters began to fall off and surrender to Stalin, who had them reinstated into the Communist Party (though most would later be executed in the Great Purges). His first station during exile was at BГјyГјkada, near Constantinople. Trotsky stayed there four years, despite the large number of former anti revolutionary (White Army) citizens in the city. Trotsky had bodyguards in the form of volunteering European supporters. The French Prime Minister Г‰douard Daladier offered Trotsky asylum in 1933. Trotsky then lived with his family and bodyguards at Royan, then at Barbizon, and through secret entry into Paris (he was not allowed there, officially), he was able to meet with various political European allies. In 1935, Trotsky moved to Norway following a rescinding of his French asylum. He then lived with a friend (Konrad Knudsen) near Oslo, and then was transferred to a farm in Hurum on September 2, 1936, where he was placed under house arrest. Towards the end of 1936, Trotsky was deported to Mexico, receiving a personal welcome from Mexican President Lazaro Cardenas. He lived in Mexico City with Diego Rivera, a painter, and his wife, Frida Kahlo, with whom he had an affair. Trotsky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well, there are programs our government provides to our elderly to help them buy food, find a place to live and most importantly, help insure them. Medicare is a program that was initially created by Harry S. Truman in 1948, but Congress failed to enact it ( Curing the Health Care System ). Later it was refined by LBJ in 1965 as part of Great Society to help the war on poverty . Medicare benefits millions of senior citizens over 65 by giving them free health care or helping pay part of it. Before Medicare there was private insurance that helped people, but with Medicare a lot more people have access to health insurance. Today, Medicare provides over 52.3 million Americans with affordable health insurance. The government started taking action to help the elderly through social problems in the mid 19th century. In May of 1964, Johnson had summed up his grand vision for America in a speech at the University of Michigan, he declared that the Great Society demands an end to poverty and racial injustice... just the beginning (Johnson). • 43. Collapse Of The Minoan Civilization Since the rediscovery of the site of Knossos by Sir Arthur Evans in 1900, the cause of the fall of the Minoan Civilization has been largely debated throughout the years. Scientists and archaeologists have proposed various hypotheses to the mystery, mainly regarding to environmental factors such as the eruption of Thera Volcano and subsequent tsunamis, earthquakes and climate change; or social and political factors like societal conflicts and invasion of the Mycenaeans. This paper examines the relationship between the demise of the Minoan Civilizationand the natural disasters it encountered which severely weakened and eventually led to the downfall of the civilization, and opened the way for Mycenaean domination of Aegean (Middleton, G.D., 2012). The Minoan Civilization was a civilization of the Bronze Age which arose in the island of Crete, Greece and flourished from around 2600 BC to 1100 BC. It is considered to be the first advanced civilization in Europe, where the Minoans formed complex and vibrant societies consisting of warriors, merchants, artists, farmers, sailors, sea traders and all kinds of people. They were also the first to use a written language in Europe, namely Linear A. Despite how intelligent these people were, the Minoan Civilization collapsed at its peak of splendor in 1450 BC, leaving traces of its grandeur and essential clues to their legend. The most popular theory to their collapse is associated with the tremendous eruption of Thera. Although the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Bending Space and Time Essay The bending of time and space is usually reserved for science fiction and the dreams of young kids who enjoy the thoughts and fantasy of being great space captains and saving the galaxy. Now if we imagine both time and space being physical things, thing that could be changed, or bent, to our will, we will get the basis of the idea we are trying to present. Spaceis already viewed as physical, as space doesn t necessarily mean the Final Frontier but as the area around us and all that it contains, but we don t have the capability of being able to alter it in any great way, only use it has it was given to us. Timeis seen not as a thing at all, but a perception of the world, or space, around us and how it moves and travels, depending on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now bend that paper in half so those two points are right on top of each other and imagine (since you can t draw this one) the line representing the new shortest distance. Now consider, if you will, being able to do with actual space itself. Bending the entire universe, and this time I mean physically bending it to be able to change the shortest distance to such a distance that it s like being able to take a step there, but since physically bending it is even weirder, we re metaphysically bending it by sending broken up particles to another point where they will be reconstructed into the item originally broken up. One could even argue that in this process the original is copied and destroyed and an entirely new one walks away, or if it isn t a live thing, a new one is obtained, but in such perfect detail to the original, or if this isn t its first time it s gone, a perfect copy of another perfect copy, meaning that there would be no complications caused by moving a copy. But we re humans, and once this technology is real, it is my own personal belief that this won t be a perfect process. So space is a physical thing that can be represented by say, a piece of paper, and then that piece of paper can be physically bent to describe the physical to metaphysical relationship to how it works when someone would bend it to make the shortest distance between the two points event shorter. Now we can discuss how time works, which is as much a question of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Stewardship Of The Army Profession Essay Stewardship of the Army Profession is the last of the Five Essential Characteristics of the Army Profession, but in terms of importance, it is just as, if not more important than the other four. The United States Army s ADRP 1, or Army Doctrinal Reference Publication 1, even defines stewardship as the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its five essential characteristics now and into the future . Such importance is placed on this characteristic because Stewardship of the Army Profession is the one that ensures the other four are maintained. I sought out the definition of stewardship because despite having spent almost three and a half years and West Point, I was not entirely sure what the doctrine behind Stewardship was. In doing this, I felt like I was better prepared for both this paper and ensuring that the corrections I made were stewarding the profession. With this newly acquired knowledge, I set out to make my corrections. My first correction for this assignment came from doing my job as First Sergeant for my company. The correction involved three different cadets, Cadet Private Michael Avallone, Cadet Private Brian Brooks, and Cadet Private Riley Eck. On 2 October 2016, the above stated cadets witnessed a cadet from a rival company running around Grant Area with company spirit gear. These cadets decided to go outside and get into a physical altercation with the cadet from the rival company in order to take the company spirit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay Hormone Replacement Therapy in Transgendering the FTM Transsexual Gender may well be the most defining factor in the spectrum of elements that comprise the human persona. In fact gender is so basic to our identity, most people mistakenly assume that our sense of being male or female is defined with absolute certainty by our anatomical sex. Contrary to popular belief, our sense of gender and anatomical sex are two distinct elements; each developing at different times in different parts of the body. While my research is limited to hormonereplacement therapy involved in masculinizing a biological female, it should be noted that the psychiatric, psychological, and medical factors that contribute to cases of gender dysforia are major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overview of Hormone Replacement Therapy for the FTM Transexual Fundamental to sex reassignment treatment of transsexuals is the acquisition of the sex characteristics of the other sex to the fullest extent possible. With the exception of the internal and external genitalia, sex characteristics are contingent of the biological effects of the respective sex steroids. Hormonal reassignment has therefore two aims: 1) to eliminate, in so far as possible, the hormonally induced secondary sex characteristics of the natal sex and 2) to induce those of the new sex. Biologic females treated with testosterone experience the following permanent changes: a deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, mild breast atrophy, increased facial and body hair and male pattern baldness. Reversible changes include increased upper body strength, weight gain, increased social and sexual interest and arousability, and decreased hip mass. Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) Hormones are long range chemical messengers of the body, manufactured and controlled by the endocrine system. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). This signals the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and release luteinizing hormone (LH). To a lesser degree, GnRH also triggers the synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Subsequently, LH and FSH signal the gonads (ovaries in females, testes in males) to synthesize and release hormones that cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Social Media And Internet Privacy It took the radio 38 years, the television 13 years, and the World Wide Web 4 years to reach 50 million users (Statistic Brain). As of September 2017, research now shows that there are over a billion people worldwide who use the internet. People utilize the internet because it offers endless unfettered access to copious quantities of diverse data. Statistics confirm that 58% of people have at least one social network profile, revealing that social media plays a significant part in the internet world. The reason for this is that social networks are portrayed as an ideal method to keep up with family and friends; especially if those mentioned live far away. What the internet and social networks doesn t reveal, but rather conceals, is the monstrous lack of secrecy they possess. Until preventive methods are established by either the government or an individual; the internet will continue to obtain and distribute individuals private information to various networks; whether with or without consent. Jim Harper s essay Web Users Get as Much as They Give, approaches the internet privacy controversy with the reap what you sow mentality. Harper explains that people freely provide intimate information in exchange for the steady flow of unlimited free material.
