Editor's Notes
Official in May 2011 – prior to that we were a group of marketing and advertising folk that met occasionally to talk marketing.
Decided to make it official last May and offer benefits to status members but continue to network to the larger marketing community in our province.
Prior to forming the association, we did a survey of all those on the Meet-Up group to see what the top priorities/interests were of the group. That’s what we used to form the goals of our association.

2015-16 SPMA South Highlights
· Committee officially formed – August 2015
· Grew membership from <5 to approx. 80 in 3-4 weeks
· South operates collaboratively with BOD, but with autonomy on event selection
· Bootstrap Marketing Fall Kick-Off Luncheon feat. Marc Stoiber (+100 attendees) – September 2015
· Holiday ‘Beers with Peers’ at Rebellion Brewery (40 attendees) –December 2015
· Held first-of-its-kind Marketing Agency Panel event to Regina (+100 attendees) – May 2016
· The South fired up for 2016-17
We had a year fairly similar to last year; just saw an increase in membership this year and therefore membership revenues.
Balance sheet fairly similar to last year. Assets decreased as we used more cash this year, liabilities decreased this year because we didn’t owe half the FUZE profits to IABC and we experienced a slight loss (as explained in Income Statement slide before) which explains the change in total equity.
The reason the members are seeing this in our resolutions this year is because we decided to take the generic bylaws given to us by our lawyer and tailor them to our specific Association so they were more meaningful to both the Board and Members. They are now in plain English and easy to digest which more resembles the way our Association works.
1. Main changes in bylaws include:
- Structured guidelines for the required audit/review
- Length of term for officers – it’s now 2 years
- Added a clause to say we could amend the bylaws and what happens if the SPMA is ever wound down
2. We want to change our articles to increase the number of directors to reflect our growth in the South Market. We’d also like our Student members can attend and vote at the AGM. In the past we had this as Student Memberships were free but now we feel our student members have fairly equal rights and should be able to vote on behalf of the members. We also want to allow our student members to be allowed to participate on the Board so we can increase our membership in the future through the graduating students. We feel they are capable of taking on such duties and would like to only restrict student members so they cannot be an officer (president, secretary or treasurer).
May I have a motion to adjourn the meeting?
Will someone second the motion?
