One 8th Grade Classroom in West
Virginia
Nine boys and eleven girls
Eleven Caucasian students
Six African-American students
Three Asian-American students
Abstract for Unit

 My Unit Plan is designed for students to learn all the
elements of giving and writing a successful speech.
My students will learn about speeches, how to write
and prepare speeches, and how to identify the parts
of the speech. My Unit Plan is three weeks long, and
each lesson is for three days. All of the technologies
are shown in the Unit Plan that will be used in the
class room.
Objective for the Unit

 By the end of this unit, which will last three weeks, students well have
learned how to research, write, and present a speech to the best of their
abilities. At the end of the three weeks, they will have finished their
preparation, and the students will give a well-researched, well-rehearsed
five minute speech on their chosen topic. They will learn all about the
elements of an instructive speech from a PowerPoint, the elements of an
entertainment speech from a YouTube video, and they will be required to
attend a speech that will be promoted by a poster in the classroom. They
will practice speech writing, researching, and presenting by completing
one of the two Webquests provided. Students will make their own visual
aids using Photoshop, and practice speaking in front of audiences by
making podcasts in groups. Periodically during the three weeks, students
will blog about their experiences in the Unit and whether or not they
enjoyed it. When their final speeches are written and presented, they must
do it in front of the class and the speech must be five minutes long,
students must look directly at the audience, talk slowly, articulate
properly, and not fidget. These factors in the speech must be followed to
100% degree.
Objective for Lesson
One

 By the end of lesson one, students will have learned
to identify the different kinds of speeches, and
beginning skills of how to write and present
speeches. They will learn this through videos, a
PowerPoint, and an poster with a QR code. They will
be evaluated by presenting an entertainment speech
on the third and last day of the first lesson to 100%
accuracy
