There are three sets of demonstrative adjectives in Spanish that are used to point out nouns based on their relationship to the speaker and listener. Este/esta/estos/estas point to nouns that are close, ese/esa/esos/esas point to nouns that are not close in space or time but may be close to the listener, and aquel/aquella/aquellos/aquellas point to nouns that are far away from both the speaker and listener.
