The Killer Whale And The Whale s Dolphin Family
A killer whale is a toothed whale belonging to the ocean s dolphin family. The killer whale can
also be referred to as the orca whale or an orca. The killer whale belongs with the ocean s family
of dolphins, it s the largest member of the dolphin family. The whale weighs approximately up to
eight thousand eight hundred pounds and it can grow up to twenty eight feet in length. In this
essay I will be presenting the many factors that are included in a killer whalesuch as, stereotypes,
intelligence, foraging and feeding, living in groups, different types, appearance, and their life
cycle. Mammal eating killer whales typically travel in much smaller groups then fish eating
whales, presumably because there is some advantage to doing so. For killer whales hunting
harbor seals, individual food intake rates are highest for individuals in groups of three, that is,
three appears to be an optimal group size for foraging. Killer whales generally choose to attack
young or weak animals, however a group of five or more may attack a healthy adult.
Killer whales work together to force the fish from deep water up to near the surface where they
are easier to catch. Killer whales are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal
family groups, which are the most stable of any animal group. Another commonly cited example of
a benefit group living for various species of whales or dolphins is babysitting or allomothering.
The killer whale consists of three different types of

Smoking and Second Hand Smoking Essay
Lifestyle is one of the determinants of health. Several factors influence the family lifestyle in
UAE such as smoking. Tobacco uses still a great health hazard. It caused death for more than six
million people in the world in 2010 (Aden, Karrar, Shafey Al Hosani, 2013). UAE faces a lot of
negative effects related to tobaccosuch as cardiovascular disease which counted by 37.5% of all
deaths in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (Aden, Karrar, Shafey Al Hosani, 2013). Injury can cause
mortality and disability. It was the second leading cause of death UAE between 2000 and 2008
which is estimated at 1200 deaths per year. Around 9% of deaths of children was caused by injury
from 2000 to 2008 (Loney, Aw, Daniel, Handysides, Ali, Blair, Grivna Shah,

It also can increase the risk of cancer, peripheral vascular diseases, and lung cancer. Smokers are at
doubled risk for ischemic stroke (Ockene Miller, 1997). Smoking plays a great role in endocrine
disorders. It can decline the rate of fertility in both male and female. It is also associated with
insulin resistance (Tweed, Hsia, Lutfy, Friedman, 2012). Indeed, both types of smoking, active
and passive smoking can cause serious health problems. Passive smoking is the inhalation of
smoke, by persons other than the intended active smoker. It is also known as second hand
smoking and it can cause premature death and morbidity. It can cause ischemic heart disease and
asthma (Wipflia Sameta, 2011). Second hand smokers are at increased risk for coronary heart
disease by approximately 30% (Barnoya Glantz, 2005). Second hand smoking has undesirable
harmful impacts on children. It can cause lower respiratory tract infection, asthma, cot death and
meningococcal disease. Children are more prone to develop the above mentioned diseases than
adults as, children inhale more polluted air per kilogram (action on smoking and health, 2014). I
would like to advise the paterfamilias or any smoker to visit a Clinic for Smoking Cessation as it
helps them to stop smoking immediately.Home accidents and injuries are common cause of death

Dear Parents (and older siblings who think they are parents) of Rising Seniors,
This process will be long and arduous for you. In my opinion, this marks a transition in the
relationship with your sons. Prior to the process, you led and guided your child. After the process,
you will have to have faith that your child absorbed your teachings. The process is the shift from
one to another. It is the first time when parents must ceed control to their sons. You can make this
process a living hell for your son or you can make it a living purgatory. First, this is not your
future. Please do not live vicariously through your child. This is their choice. Your role is to assist
them in making their choice. To explain, I will provide a metaphor: Open your child s eyes, but do
not instruct them where to look. They will be receiving tons of information and you may need to
help them sift through it. Talk to them about your process/experience. Provide information, but try
not to sway them towards one school or another.

Recording Guitar And A Dynamic Cardioid Microphone
Recording guitar is rarely ever as easy as sloppily plopping down whatever mic s handy at the
moment in front of the speaker grille and hitting record. Majority would even argue that mic
choice and placement only play bit parts in a larger production that involves pre amps, guitar
amps, cable length, A/D D/A converters, tracking through a console clean vis a vis applying
processing going in, and of course, the choice of guitaritself! Instead of writing a fully
comprehensive work (and a very, very long discussion and debate), this article aims to address
some basic guitar micing technique using a dynamic cardioid microphone(such as the venerable
SM57) and a condenser (such as a Neumann u87). 1 mic technique If the situation calls for using
one microphone, you can position your dynamic mic either as close to the speaker grille cloth as
possible (less ambiance) or 3 6 inches away, either pointing to the center of the cone or off axis.
Listen through your monitors how the speaker sounds like, and change cones if you aren t
satisfied (as in the case of a marshall 4x12). Once you ve decided on which cone to record, fine
tune the guitar sound by angling the mic towards or away from the center of the cone as it makes
a difference in the tone coming into your recording. A condenser is generally placed a bit farther
because of its higher sensitivity (and in some cases, lower clipping point with regard to SPL
handling). 2 mic technique Applying the technique above, one may

The Importance Of The Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
In late January of 1968, during the Vietnamese lunar new year known as Tet, the North Vietnamese
launched a coordinated series of attacks on cities and outposts in South Vietnam. The attack, which
went on to be known as the Tet Offensive, was an attempt from the Viet Cong to spark a rebellion
in South Vietnam and to send a stark message to United States, advising them to limit their
involvement in the conflict. Although U.S. and South Vietnamese troops were able to hold off
some of the attacks, the Tet Offensive was still a victory for the Viet Cong despite having received
numerous casualties. The Tet Offensive marked a turning point for the Viet Cong in the Vietnam
war, with the attack beginning the United States long withdraw from the country. Due to news
coverage of the attack being broadcasted on American television, public support for the war began
to deteriorate, leading to more people wanting for an end to the conflict. North Vietnamese
Commander General Vo Nguyen Giap had chosen the Vietnamese holiday, which occurs on
January 31st, to break the stalemate in the war. Giap believed that a coordinated attack would
cause an unstable Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) to collapse. He also hoped that this
collapse would lead to chaos and a rebellion amongst South Vietnamese citizens. The main reason
for Giap s attack; however, was an attempt to cripple the fragile relationship between the United
States and South Vietnam. By the late 1960s, the strong

Ball Turret Gunner
There are three elements employed by Randall Jarrell in his poem, The Death of the Ball Turret
Gunner, which illustrate the cycle of life and death of the gunner. The utilization of rhythm, use of
imagery, and sequencing of events profoundly impact the development of the theme which
conveys sending young people to fight a war is essentially ending life before it begins. Each
element is evidenced in all five lines of the one stanzapoem. Understanding these elements allows
readers to grasp the troublesome concept of death through warfare in just five short lines.
The author of the poem The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner purposely writes it without a fixed
structure of rhythm or rhyme. Composing strict metrical patterns or rhyme schemes ... Show more

This is because of the sequencing of events in the five short lines. The way in which it was
written mimics the life cycle of humans particularly the gunner s. The poem begins by
referencing the complete safety of the gunner while protected inside of his mother s womb.
Beginning with the mother s womb is significant because it provides the depiction of the womb
for all five lines. As he falls out abruptly into the State of warfare, his is still hunched into a fetal
position like that of a newborn animal. Because he is still hunched in this position, the poem
implies that the gunner was not ready for the challenges that he was forced to face. This womb
is not as friendly or comforting as his mothers, and it foreshadows the dangers to come. He
awakens from his state of childlike innocence to imminent danger and the nightmare of death. He
is promptly murdered which demonstrates how the gunner proceeded straight from the sleep of
childhood to the sleep of death, which is likened to an abortion. The brevity of the poem mimics
the brevity of the gunner s life, and the stages of the gunner s life are squeezed together in order to
illustrate how quickly the gunner s life was taken from him. The poem jumps from birth to death
with barely any mention of the eighteen or nineteen years in between. The poet views the young
soldiers as unnecessary sacrifices who are born just to die.

Written In 1902 Life Is Fine Mood
Written in 1902 Life is fine is one of the best poems by Langston Hughes. Life is Fine features
the cycle of life and how important life is. Life is fine uses such as tone, figurative languages and
other devices to get the message across. Langston Hughes structures the poem as a prologue
where the narrator narrates his progress from being in total despair to self realization about how
important life is. The poem contains six stanzas, and the first four stanzas are the interpretations of
the narrator s attempts to commit suicide. The narrator s solid feeling about his situation is getting
worse and he s struggling with it, and he makes another effort to kill himself by leaping from a
sixteenth floor of a building in the third stanza. This is also when the reader or the audience comes
to recognize the reason he is trying to kill himself. The theme of this poem denotes to the disillusion
that people usually have of dying. When there are somethings enormously hard and unhappy, it may

He intensely depicts the narrator s hardships by allowing the man to express his depression to
the readers. The hostility in the poet s tone is suggested when he emphasizes the inevitable
failure when the narrator attempts to kill himself twice. Hughes also criticizes human
insignificance through the disdain of life that the narrator shows in the poem. The mood
Hughes creates is realistic and melancholy at first. But it becomes more positive as the narrator
finally comes to a realization that life is fine . The reader or audience is been taking through the
changes of mood from pessimism to optimism as the narrator badly seeks for death at the
opening of the poem and then at the end of the poem, the narrator becomes more aware of how
lucky he still is as he admits: So since I m still here livin , I guess I will live on. And he would not
trade his life for anything. Life is precious and must be

The Negative Effects Of Smoking In High School Students
As a high school student I felt as though the positive outcomes would overpower the negatives,
which I soon realized would not be the case. The peer pressure I felt from my friends who
smoked also added to the reasoning behind my choice to try smoking during the initial stage of
my high school experience. Research suggests that children who smoke cause their non
smoking peers to take up the habit through strategies such as coercion, teasing, bullying and
rejection from a desired group (Michell and West, 1996). Being a student in my first year of
high school I felt as though I didn t know anyone s true intentions. I felt pressure from older
students who were talking to me and trying to influence me into smoking with them. Once I was
a bit older I did a self evaluation to understand that this decision that I was making was not
because I truly wanted to, or felt the need to do, but rather the influence of my classmates and
peers from the older grades. I felt as though my peers from the older grades needed to see me do
this in order to be accepted into their social group. After coming to the conclusion that I would
stop smoking and follow my own moral directions, one could argue I was then following
categorical imperatives. Categorical imperatives is most simply understood as a way of
evaluating motives for actions (Henry, 2011). I felt as though I had to follow my own personal
moral compass as opposed to the morals set by my peers. Philosopher Immanuel Kant

Racism in Amistad, To Kill a Mocking Bird, and Telephone...
The texts To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Amistad directed by Steven Spielberg and
Telephone Conversation by Wole Soyinka explore the issue of racism. These three texts focus on
prejudice, discrimination, bias, behaviour and attitude revolving around the issue of discrimination
because of the coulour of ones skin and the cultural and social attitudes past on from one generation

These three texts develop awareness in the responder of the power of attitudes, the ignorance and
fear behind racism and how pervasive racial tension has been from one generation to another.
To kill a mockingbird investigates the racial tension in Maycomb by analysing features of
attitudes towards Negroes that date back many generations. The meaning of the title To Kill a
Mockingbird itself evokes the idea of racism that Lee wants to portray to the composer. Throughout
the book, Tom Robinson is symbolised as the most important mockingbird an innocent who has
been injured or destroyed. He is the mockingbird who helps his accuser in her chores and is killed
due to the deep seated attitudes towards African Americans present in the southern states of
America. Mr. Underwood compares his death to the the senseless slaughter of songbirds .
Lee also explores the systems which were present in those times that allowed for the racism to
continue throughout the society. Judicial systems, political system, social system was structured
for racism, segregation and discrimination. The Social system in Maycomb revolves around the
fact that the Negroes despite their admirable qualities lie at the bottom of a social hierarchy which
is headed by the Finches, followed by the townspeople who are in front of the ignorant farmers like
the Cunningham s who are in turn of a higher class than the white trash people like the Ewells. This
is apparent in the court room scenes

Tragic Events In American History
The military attack carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy on the United States naval base at
Pearl Harbor was a tragic occurrence in United States history. On December 7, 1941, the barrage
led to the loss of more than two thousand American lives. Americans under no circumstances
believed the Japanese would plan a direct attack on American soil due to the inconveniences and
especially not in Hawaiiof all places. Nevertheless, the tragic event led to the involvement of the
United Statesin World War II after two years of conflict.
Nearly seventy four years later, while perusing a menu at a local Chinese restaurant in
Stockbridge, Georgia, the choice wording of sushi rolls raised a red flag. Names such as Pearl
Harbor Roll and Atomic Bomb Roll were listed under the Chef s Special Rolls along with
Kamikaze Roll at the establishment where the Japanese cuisine is also offered to customers. My
family and I have dined at the restaurant previously, but never before took notice of such details
within the menu. As an American whose great grandfather served in World War II, I was appalled

Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was one of ten children growing up. Michael
and his siblings grew up in a very strict home. He had many conflicts with his father, who was
physically and emotionally abusive. Michael s music career began with the formation of The
Jackson 5 in 1963, when he joined his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine in their
already booming musical group. This was the start of Michael s singing career. He was only five
years old at this time, and went solo in 1971 at the young age of thirteen (Internet Movie

with seven counts of molestation and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent to a 13

the boy (Internet Movie Database). Throughout his life, Michael also struggled with Body
Dysmorphic Disorder, which means that he viewed himself and his body in a defected and
morphed way. Michael may have developed this disorder because he was diagnosed with
vitiligo, which is a loss of pigmentation in the skin. Michael died on June 25th, 2009 of drug
induced cardiac arrest at the age of 50 (Merkin, 2009). Using the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders IV, Axis I deals with Clinical Syndromes. Michal Jackson was
diagnosed with Panic Disorder, Body Dimorphic Disorder and Depression. Axis II is called
Developmental Disorders and Personality Disorders. This axis is relevant to developmental and
personality disorders, which, in my opinion, do not apply to Jackson. Dealing with physical
conditions is Axis III, which he did not suffer from either. Severity of Psychosocial Stressors,
Axis IV, is where you explain and rate the events in a person s life to cause the disorders listed in
Axis I and Axis II. These events for Michael were abuse as a child (severe), the death of his brother

Humans have controlled fire for thousands of years. This basis of technology has since allowed
humans to expand. Fire allowed humans to hunt during the winter and eventually hunt in groups.
These groups had to have a certain understanding to create a society that allowed everybody to
survive. Through many years a language developed which became a basis for society. These hunter
groups had evolved enough to settle down and create agriculture. Agriculture brought in people
from many different areas, and those people eventually learned that same language. Language
helped them by assigning a position in society such as hunters, farmers, and gatherers. As these
groups expanded, the area for hunting also expanded which may have led to the discovery of other
civilizations. Language was traded between the groups and created even more languages by
combining them together. Over time these groups took language to many different areas in the Indo
European area and allowed over 500 languages to develop. Language has since been crucial to the
survival of humans. Humans would have a difficult time communicating without language, and
would not be able to teach new techniques of farming and other jobs. Since humans can

thought provoking story of a charming man who everyone envied, because he seemed to have his

resent what they thought was a humdrum life. But it was Richard Cory who was the one truly not

For good reason, I believe Robinson wants the reader to reflect that when Richard Cory died, he
was probably a very lonely and sad man. A supporting fact of this would be the lack of
relationships in any form throughout the poem. With no lover, no family, and no friends, it
could be assumed as one factor in the decision making to end his life. It can also be assumed
Richard Cory appears to keep all of his emotions hidden from the rest of the world through his
everyday routine. (Richard Cory Analysis) I connect this as Richard Cory was living a lie every
day he was hiding his humanly need for relationships. Whenever Richard Cory went down town
(Robinson, Richard Cory) more than likely the only form of socializing he had. He was alone and
unhappy and was going down town greeting the townspeople. This why Richard Cory went home
and put a bullet through his head (Robinson, Richard Cory) he could no longer live a lie and
committed suicide. I shall have more to say when I am dead (Robinson, Inspiring Quotes ),
Robinson was trying to connect that companionship is essential to all people. Robinson was trying
to ensure that although money can make a person happy, they may grow tired of it over time.

Examples Of Tension In Spider Man
Term 1 drama There are many examples of relationship tension in the film spider man. I am
going to state some of these starting with the first example which is in the first couple of scenes
when Peter Parker is chasing the bus and everyone inside of it is laughing at him including the
bus driver. This scene shows task tension because it shows that peter is trying to catch the bus and
if he doesn t make it, the outcome will be that he will miss the excursion, this is relationship
tension because Peter has something to do, an amount of time to do it and if he doesn t complete
the task there will be consequences. This scene also shows relationship tension because everyone

One of the first is when Peter is unknown of a spider coming down above him and he is enjoying
his time with Mary Jane. The spider comes down and peter still does not know this. This is
mystery tension and this changes into surprise tension because the spider snaps at Peter which
was unexpected to the viewers. It starts with mystery tension because threatening things are
happening to peter and he does not know and it is surprize tension because we did not expect the
spider to lash out at peter. In this scene the mystery and surprise is also emphasised through the
music used. Another example Of tension of mystery is when They are on the excursion looking
at the spider, Mary Jane says there is only fourteen spiders when the woman said that there
should be fifteen. This is tension of mystery because people are left wondering where this spider
is, that it could be anywhere. Another example of tension of mystery and surprise is when Dr
Osborne is testing the formula and nobody knows what the outcome is going to be and that is why
it is tension of mystery. This converts to tension of surprize because dr Osborne unexpectedly
grabs Norman, throwing him and killing him and this is tension of surprize because we didn t

The Earliest Documentation Of Leprosy
The earliest documentation of Leprosy was dated to around 600 BC in an Indian text(1). It is
speculated that leprosy originated in India and was later brought to Europe by Alexander the
Great s troops(4). Leprosy is not just a disease of the past, it is an ongoing problem in many poorer
nations around the world such as India, Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and other poor nations(1).
Through organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) the number of leprosy
outbreaks has significantly decreased(2). Currently, India contributes to more than 50% of the
250,000 global outbreaks of leprosy.(1). The Indian government has implemented strategies and
programs to help people, eradicate and control this disease. These strategies are not extensive
enough to solve the social. economic, and cultural problem that remain. Furthermore, a large
percentage of the infected are unable to gain the assistance that these strategies provide. Leprosy is
a tropical disease that is associated with high levels of poverty. It comes from the bacteria
Mycobacterium Leprae (6). Leprosy is known for being highly contagious with a prolonged
incubation period, make it difficult to control and identify an incidence of leprosy(2). The bacteria
from leprosy predominantly attacks Schwann cells of the peripheral nervous system, keratinocytes
in the skin, respiratory tract and eyes (1). This will eventually cause damage to the tissue and
nerves surrounding the area of the infected site.

Mechanism Of Natural Selection
On this slide we have a more fine approach to the natural selection and its mechanism.
On the left we have a cartoon in which Darwin explains how the natural selection works to a
hostile alien who claims that he would take the Earth in virtue of the survival of the fittest
(Spencer, 1864). This catchphrase was coined by sociologist and biologist Herbert Spencer and
actually was used by Darwin later, but always in the context of the reproductive success (Darwin,
1868). Actually in the long term the natural selection equals to the reproductive success. If an
individual is the strongest but it cannot leave descendants, his fitness will be 0.
So, in the end, what matters for natural selection is the number of descendants in the long term. If

The Effects Of Reporting On Foodborne Diseases

The Impact of Reporting on Foodborne Diseases
Abstract : Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of pathogens and parasites, which are
contaminated in foods and food products at different points in the food production and preparation
process. The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) tracks foodborne diseases through
reports from surveillance systems from state and local health departments, medical professionals,
and laboratories. Though there are many methods of control and prevention within food safety laws,
the chances of underreporting incidents of foodborne diseases are still likely. The underreporting of

Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of contaminated foods and food products. They
include a broad group of diseases caused by over 200 pathogens, chemicals, and parasites, which
contaminate food at different points in the food production and preparation process.1 Examples of
foodborne diseases include: Norovirus, Campylobacteriosis (campylobacter), Escherichia coli (e.

The burden of foodborne illness in the United States is serious; about 1 in 6 people in the United
States get sick each year, 128,000 are hospitalized, and about 3,000 die annually. 2 There are
various agencies (governmental and non governmental) advocating for food safety and the health of
the public. The three federal governmental agencies with the most control on food safety are the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Center for

Queen Elizabeth I: One of the Greatest Monarchs in English History There have been many
influential monarchs in English history, but one that stands out is Queen Elizabeth I. Throughout
her legendary reign, Queen Elizabeth managed to have a positive effect on England s political and
cultural state during this time. Her reign featured many political accomplishments, but the one that
stands out the most is the defeat of the Spanish Armada. Considered as one of her finest hours, the
defeat of the Spanish Armada has gone down in history as one of the greatest English victories at
sea. Queen Elizabeth s decisions played a positive role in the economic development in England.

Queen Elizabeth recognized the importance of the arts to the life and legacy of her nation. Very
fond of plays, Queen Elizabeth permitted professional theaters to be built in England for the first
time. These new and improved theaters attracted 15,000 theatergoers per week in London. (Arts).
In addition to Shakespeare s masterpieces of the stage like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, Sir
Philip Sidney s Defence of Poesie was written during this golden age in the literary arts (Arts).
Queen Elizabeth managed to capture the imagination of influential poets such as Edmund Spenser
and Sir Walter Ralegh (Moose). The Shakespearean sonnet, Spenserian stanza, and dramatic blank
verse also came into practice during the period. Queen Elizabeth s appreciation for theatre led to the
introduction of many new theatres and famous playwrights that promoted English culture (Arts). In

Why President Truman Decided to Drop Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki At 02:45
August 6th 1945, the B 29 Superfortress the Enola Gay took off from the specially lengthened
North Field on the Island of Tinian in the Marianas. The plane piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets
was 7 tons. At 0815 hours the bomb doors of the B 29 opened and flying at approximately
32,000 ft the uranium based atom bomb code named Little Boy was unleashed upon the city of
Hiroshima. Over 70,000 men women and children were killed by blast alone. And over the next

There are four main reasons why Truman ordered the dropping of the two atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I will now discuss each reason in more detail with factual evidence that
justifies his decision. By April 1945 the Japanese armed forces had been eliminated from
everywhere apart from their home soil and parts of northern Manchuria in China. The
Americans had already taken some of the Japanese homeland, Okinawa approximately 300 miles
south of Kyushu had been taken. At a joint war plans committee it was concluded that 46,000
Americans would die in the invasion of Kyushu and Honshu. The rate of wounded to fatalities
was estimated to be 3 to 1, so 175,000 US casualties were not out of the question. However these
early reports were rejected by George Marshall, the army s chief of staff. Another estimate was
put forward by Admiral Leahy, he concluded that it would be unlikely that any less than 35% of
the invasion force would be killed, this would work out to be 250,000 American dead. This was
estimated in August when the Japanese strength on Kyushu was 14 infantry divisions and
according to US intelligence reports, there would be another 2,250,000 army workers, 1,300,000
navy workers and 250,000 special garrison troops and a volunteer militia officially put at
28,000,000. The decisive battles

Capitalist Society.
Capitalism is a very complex system that is discuss by many authors, scholars and economists.
Robert Heilbroner is a famous American economist who creatively discusses the system of
capitalism in Twenty First Century Capitalism. He reveals the abstruse capitalism system and its
role in society. Heilbroner begins by comparing traditional society with modern capitalist society
and differentiate capital with wealth, which facilitate the reader to understand the basic definition
of capitalism. He then illustrates the most crucial aspect of capitalism, that is, the two realms of
capitalism. According to Heilbroner, the two realms of capitalism are state and economy or

It is important to understand the meaning and duties of the two realms of capitalism before
learning their relationship. Meaning and difference between state and the economy is very clear.
State of a society is the system that has power to control and enforce laws and regulations on
different institutions of society, whereas, economy of the society deals with labor, capital, natural
resources and the production, distribution of goods and services. Heilbroner reference Adam
Smith to describes duties of the two realms. Adam Smith illustrates the picture of economy in
Society of Perfect Liberty as: Every man, as long as he does not violate the laws of justice, is left
perfectly free to pursue his own interest his own way, and to bring both his industry and capital into
competition with those of any other man or order of men. The sovereign [we can read the state ] is
completely discharged from a duty, in the attempting to perform which he must always be exposed
to innumerable delusions, and for the proper performance of which no human wisdom or
knowledge could ever be sufficient the duty of superintending the industry of private people, and of
directing it towards the employments most suitable to the interest of the society (Heilbroner 53).
According to Smith, the government should deal with their courts, police forces, and jails; and the
necessity to maintain what we would call the national infrastructure, explicitly including education

Hyena In Life Of Pi Orangutan Essay
A fable, according to M.H. Abrams, is a short narrative . . . that exemplifies an abstract moral
thesis or principle of human behavior; Abrams states that the most common form of fable is

uses this technique in The Life of Pi, in which Pi a human is trapped in a boat with Richard Parker

The hyena is described less humanely than the orangutan, though Pi describes its taste as having
catholicity (129) which is something made up by humans. Pi also tells the reader that a hyena
will essentially eat anything, from it s own kind to another s feces. When Pi is telling the story

This resourcefulness and utter lack of discrepancy for what he s preparing to eat, as well as the

My Experience At The Grocery Store
There was once a time in my life where everything was perfect. There were smiles, toys, good
times, friendships and playgrounds. This period of time was my early childhood when the only
time I became sick was when I fell during my joyous playtimes. However, as I grew older, the
world and my environment changed. I always tried to keep healthy by maintaining the right diet
and taking vitamins. Despite this, something terrible happened to me on December 12th, 2015.
December 12th, 2015 was just another regular day for me. I was working at my part time job at
the grocery store. I did the same routine tasks as any other day: said my prayers, had breakfast,
showered and got prepared to go to work. That morning was a beautiful morning. The sun was
shining brightly, the birds were chirping sweetly and a warm Christmas spirit was in my home. My
parents were jovial as on any other day, and they both encouraged me to have a wonderful day.
Work began at 8am. It was 7:16 am when I left home to go to work. I was energetic and excited.
I arrived at work at 7:45 am to begin my shift. The sun was extremely hot and I began to sweat as
I unlocked the outdoor trolleys. However, I did not let this deter me, as I was in an energetic
mood and eager to spread the Christmas spirit to all the customers whom I would encounter. At
8am when the supermarket doors opened, there was a huge rush. This was expected as the
Christmas period was always busy. I greeted the customers warmly and performed my task

Key Differences Between Feudalism And Capitalism
Q3. Drawing on Heilbroner, explain the key differences between feudalism and capitalism. Explain
how Heilbroner discusses the rise and establishment of capitalism?
In this short essay, I will explain few key differences between feudalism and capitalism based on
Heilbroner s book. They are as follows: the property rights (Land), the system of wage and labor
(Workers), and the existence of competition. Additionally, I will discuss the rise of capitalismbased

Both feudalism and capitalism are defined by many scholars in various ways. In both of these

There was no property law and decisions likely favored the king and the rich and were thus unfair.
As for capitalism, the land is considered a commodity that can be bought and sold. The legal
framework includes universal enforcement of property rights. Property right not only exists,
workers get standardized legal protection for their property. Landlords own the land and tenants
must pay rent.
Second:Workers
In feudalism, the system of wage labor didn t exist. The serf lives off the land and is forced to
work in return, they get food and protection. They don t have a work contract or wages. They do
not have the option to leave, and they work even if the conditions are unbearable. When the land
is transferred to another lord, the serf will have a new lord to obey. Unlike feudalism, in
capitalism work is a contract based between employer and worker, so does have a system of
wage labor. Workers had freedom whether to terminate their contract or not. If the worker does
not like their current job, the worker had some flexibility to decide what to do next, stay or leave.
As Adam Smith states If profits or wages are too low in one trade area, there will be an evacuation
of capital and labor until the supply is better adjusted to the demand (Heilbroner, 1999)
In regard to buying and selling of labor power. In feudalism, buying and selling labor power wasn

H.G. Wells The Time Machine Essay examples
When the time traveler thought of the future he made assumptions that would suggest that the in

Relying on technology becomes associated with this utopian society, and certain problems such
as laziness can arise because of this. Laziness as a result of dependency on technology proves to
be fatal. An example of this would be when one thinks about the Sphinx s riddle. At first, society
finds the answer to the riddle through one specific way of thinking and arriving at that answer,
but because of technology anything originally learned can then be referenced so that eliminates
the need to remember it. Now if someone who comes from a society that is dependent on
technology is asked this riddle, he will have no way of answering the question because he would
first need to look at technology for the answer. Wells suggests that this shows that after arriving to
a utopian state, a society dependent on technology can have a reduced ability to think. When the
time traveler first entered this society in the future, the first thing he noticed was the Sphinx that
had its wings ...spread so it seemed to hover (18). There are other instances in the story where an
idea is seen as just floating or hovering into the time traveler s mind. While he is thinking about
how the Eloi have become reacquainted with fear ... suddenly there came into my head the memory
of meat I had seen in the Underworld. It seemed odd how it floated into my mind... (49). This

Theme Of Wait And Hope In The Count Of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, is an adventure novel published in 1844
in France which gained worldwide popularity for its universal themes. Dumas incorporated themes
of moral justice, ultimate happiness, and hope. These themes are apparent throughout this novel,
where the main character Edmond Dantes, or The Count of Monte Cristo, takes justice into his own
hands, and plays God to get his vengeance on those who have wronged him. In the following
essay I will analyze the true meaning of wait and hope found in this novel. Edmond Dantes had
an extremely successful young life, he was engaged, he was about to be captain of a ship, and
he was quite popular all before the age of 20. Unfortunately, who he thought were his friends
were envious of all his success. Fernand Mondego was in love with his fiance Mercedes, his
cohort Danglars wanted to have the success that he had for himself, and Caderousse was jealous
of him as well. Together, the trio destroyed his life by putting him in prison to steal everything
good away from him. Danglars created the plot to frame DantГЁs for treason, Fernand mailed the
letter they constructed, and Villefort sent the Count to jail only to protect his own father and
himself. Dantes spent fourteen years in prison, but in this time he grew up and discovered his true
values with the help of his greatest mentor and jail neighbor Abbe Faria. He became a teacher to

World War One Heritage And Remembrance
The war has always acted as a vicious muse for songwriters.
Since Antiquity, it has inspired a vast song repertoire, which has been able to describe tragic events
in a vivid and striking way.
Governments and rulers used and are still using music with propagandistic and mass control aims;
patriotic composers consecrate their works to glorify belligerent ideals and galvanise the troops,
while pacifist or subversive ones tries to condemn warfare.
Music is also extensively used after wars with commemorative goals or therapeutic objectives.
However, it is undoubtedly among common soldiers that music reveals its most authentic and frank
aspects.
Soldiers are indeed the only ones who live wars first hand, experiencing the tragedies of life on the
frontline and bluntly describing them.
The First World War is one of the historic events that have impressed the most the creative souls,
because of its inhumanity and momentous nature.
In fact, it is still source for a cultural and social debate in many countries, primarily Italy.
World War One heritage and remembrance is indeed a controversial topic for the Italian civil
society: during the last decades, its memory has been widely exploited by political opportunists and
a sincere and a truthful representation of the events is far to be portrayed.

Growing Up To Christmas Research Paper
It is that time of year again Advent! Flocking to the stores to buy gifts; shopping with massive
discounts; eagerly awaiting break from school; it is all part of the Christmas experience. Should it
be, though? If you are of the Christian faith, the answer is absolutely not. Christmas is all about
celebrating the coming of Christ, and the time leading up to it Advent should be dedicated to
preparing our hearts for Him. If you really think about it, chalking Christmasup to gifts is one of the
greatest tragedy of our era. From the time God made a covenant with Isaac and the Israelites to the
time of Jesusbirth, God spoke through prophets to foretell the coming of the Messiah who would
save all of humanity from its sins. Through this

Brand Relationship Between Brands And Consumers
According to Veloutso Moutinho (2009, p.315) Brand relationship is defined as the continual
exchanges between a specified brand and an established customer, where relationship characteristics
of love, association, interdependence and loyalty are developed with the brand. However, Keller
(2014, p.365) revealed that consumer brandrelationships are the quality of relationship between
brands and consumers. As a result, there are many influences that formulate consumer brand
relationship. Basically, brand loyalty , brand equity and trust Escalas and Bettman, (2005, p. 379)
are the underpinning factors that generates brand relationships. Furthermore, this developing
customer brand relationship constitutes a sum of long term experiences with the brand where the
brand is the entirety of the customers experiences with the brand. However, supplementing the long
term customer brand relationship, brand communications is the major catalyst in relation to
enticing both customer and seller in the long term relationship, hence attaining a brand emotional
connection. This brand relationship does not only lodge an essential position in the mental period
of a brand connection, rather it stimulates greater sales due to customer retention, less price

Big Hollywood Mergers
In 1995, the Federal Communications Commission s financial interest and syndication rule expired,
which had major impact on the film industry. This meant that many of the big Hollywood
companies had to merge and create what s called the megamergers. Because so many of the
companies merged, the significance of the independent cinema movement increased since not many
small, but great ideas would be able to come to the light. Some artists with unique filmvision and
ideas would be unable see their ideas in green light from megamergers. The release of Sex, Lies and

unconventional storyline and cast. Not only that, but it also won the best film prize at

Truman Capote And The Clutter Murder Case Analysis
Despite all of these distressful childhood events, Capote s life began to improve. He began to
befriend prominent figures in the literary field and gain the support of some, such as Carson
McCullers ( Truman Capote ). His first novel entitled Other Voices, Other Rooms, published in
1948, as well as a set of short stories, attributed to Capotes early success. Capote further flourished
as a writer, and soon enough, in 1966, he rose to the apex of his literary career with what began as
a series of articles in the New Yorker and was finalized as a masterly publication In Cold Blood
(McMillan). The publication of the work, though, came only after the sentenced hangings of the
two murderers of the Clutter family, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. For six extensive years,
Capote and his childhood friend, Harper Lee, spent countless hours analyzing the case and delving
deeper into it. Capote and Lee interviewed hundreds of Kansanians in an effort to elicit details and
information to incorporate into the novel. Even Capote, himself, spent much time with the two
murderers, accumulating further intelligence of the past lives of the murders and the criminality
involved in the murders. Ultimately, through elaborately detailing the Clutter murder case from the
beginning to end, Capote was brilliantly able to integrate aspects of the Southern Gothic genre into
the novel.
Throughout In Cold Blood, Capote explicitly delved into the intricacies of the lives and
personalities of many

Market capitalization is a popular metric for assessing the size of a company as a representation of

3.4.3Threat of substitute products
Microsoft s Windows operating system had been flawed since its inception. Touted to be a
universal operating system that would work on all computers, it was supposed to allow
computer purchasers to use the same software on various brands of computers. It has worked
that way but is subject to crashing at any given time for no apparent reason. Apple s operating
system has none of those flaws and users taunt PC users regularly. Apple has even used these
taunts in advertising with its I am a Mac and I am a PC series of ads. Product differentiation is
the purpose but loyal Mac users would not substitute a PC for a Mac, believing the Mac to be
unique.

Due to Apple s wide platform of products there is a threat of substitute products from an
assortment of firms. In the product line of iPods, Apple makes a variety of units. The market share

My Trip On The California Health Care Facility Essay
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I
selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting.
My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before
the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safetyprecautions
implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first
thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments
for physical therapyoccupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x rays and medical needs. John
told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there
suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along
the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other
members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for
inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for
the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area,
dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices
that over looked the play yard for some prisoners. This can be good for therapist to observe
behaviors and actions of the inmatesoutside

Satrapi s Resistance In Persepolis
To understand and obey any law forcing individuals to change their way of life causes resistance.
In the graphic novel Persepolis, although she effectively remembers those who suffered, Marjane
Satrapi excels in showing Iranians as very ordinary but interesting people. Satrapi illustrates their
normalcy through everyday activities and their responses to the situation they face within their
country. Although Persepolis is a graphic novel, it portrays issues of politics through the
innocence and lightheartedness of a child. Satrapi acknowledges those who were forced to leave
their homes, as well as, remembering loved ones who have died and suffered. Many were forced

Satrapi portrays herself as an average modern teen through her personal style and music choice.
For instance, she has a Kim Wilde and Iron Maiden poster which her parents smuggled in from
Turkey; as Satrapi describes, two posters, one of Kim Wilde and one of Iron Maiden (126).
Although it was forbidden, Satrapi listened to the music and enjoyed expressing it by the way
she dressed. Satrapi is allowed to wear whatever she pleases as her mother is very permissive;
Satrapi explains, I only knew two or three other girls who could go out alone at thirteen
(131)Although, alcohol is strictly forbidden, Satrapi s family drinks alcohol often as it is an
essential to their daily lives. Satrapi discloses her, uncle was the vintner he had built a genuine
winemaking lab in his basement (106) where, Mrs. Nasrine, who was also his cleaning lady,
crushed the grapes (106). They are able to relax and drink as long as they do not get caught
which shows Satrapi s family does not believe in restricting an individual from being able to
consume anything they wish. Nevertheless, Satrapi demonstrates they have kept their sanity
through the madness and bombings, while still retaining time to enjoy themselves. In spite of all
the dangers (106), her family threw parties as, without them it wouldn t be psychologically
bearable (106) and without parties they, might as well just bury [themselves] now (106). The
parties were ways of not only celebrating events (like the birth of Satrapi s cousin), but also coping
with the bombings and dangers which lie outside their homes; distract themselves from their
problems. Although Satrapi is surrounded by eminent threats to her safety, she still risks
everything to keep her rationality and normality as being true to herself is most important to her.
Overall, Satrapi uses daily life to express not all

America And Its Homeland Security Online Essay
America and Its Homeland Security Online
Abstract: Everyday security is provided by the states and federal government. These tasks get more
difficult as new technology introduces itself. Cybersecurity is one of the most popular security
sectors in today s world. There is not only cyberbullying going on in the world. Terrorismcan be
planned and sent from person to person over the internet. People s identities are being stole to help
carry out these terrorist acts and this is just the being of it. The United States created the
Department of Homeland Security as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This was an effort to prevent future
terrorist attacks on our nation. Along with that department, laws have been enacted, such as the
USA PATRIOT Act. This law was introduced and passed to provide Federal, State, and local law
enforcement agencies with better resources to fight and stand up against terrorism. The way to
successfully providing security against domestic and international terrorists is to understand the
mentality of a terrorist. Critical assessments, more efficient alert systems, and physical security
standards must improve in order to solidify our current security posture if the United States wants
to deter future terrorist attacks against its culture and economy. So let us all start at the very
beginning. What is the major threat behind cyber terrorism and cyber vandalism? Once you take a
major look at the early years, the internet and websites were commonly introduced

Ockham s Razor
There are different ways we come to know the stuff in this world. We generally prefer theories that
are simple. The simpler the theory, the less entities involved; therefore, the fewer assumptions we
have to make. Quine supports the principle Ockham s Razor in acceptance of an ontology.
Ockham s Razor is a principle that is preferred when trying to determine our ontological beliefs.
The first step of Quine s method suggests that we use simple theories. As a naturalist, Quine also
only takes what scientific theories give him. This is slightly problematic because that means only
sciencecan determine what exists and seems to deny common sense.

them to use within his method . His method can be criticized because Quine, being a naturalist,
denies a priori knowledge by definition and therefore, rejecting anything abstract such as

Behavior and Relationship Observation
Behavior observation Conformity is a general concept that refers to changing one s behavior
which is caused by another person or group.in other words it results to someone acting in some
way due to the influence they got from others (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). For the
purpose of this paper, I have made the assumption that the people I am observing are a couple
taking into account the preformed ideas of how couples do behave. I have also made an
assumption that that they are in a love relationship and they are married. For people who are in a
relationship they have to try and understand each other. They also have to conform their behaviors
according to their partners so that they can understand each other more in the relationship.
Conformity is not an easy concept especially when one is required to make major behavior
changes in their lives. Therefore there are pre conformity behaviors that could be observed in the
man before he fully demonstrated a conforming behavior. The pre conforming behavior was such as
constantly forgetting what he was expected to do since this was a relatively new thing for him.
There were instances where he totally forgot or did what was expected of him halfway without
completion. There are several types of conformities which include; normative conformity.
Normative conformity involves an individual changing their behavior so that they can fit well into
a particular group (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). Normative influence comes

  • 2. The Killer Whale And The Whale s Dolphin Family A killer whale is a toothed whale belonging to the ocean s dolphin family. The killer whale can also be referred to as the orca whale or an orca. The killer whale belongs with the ocean s family of dolphins, it s the largest member of the dolphin family. The whale weighs approximately up to eight thousand eight hundred pounds and it can grow up to twenty eight feet in length. In this essay I will be presenting the many factors that are included in a killer whalesuch as, stereotypes, intelligence, foraging and feeding, living in groups, different types, appearance, and their life cycle. Mammal eating killer whales typically travel in much smaller groups then fish eating whales, presumably because there is some advantage to doing so. For killer whales hunting harbor seals, individual food intake rates are highest for individuals in groups of three, that is, three appears to be an optimal group size for foraging. Killer whales generally choose to attack young or weak animals, however a group of five or more may attack a healthy adult. Killer whales work together to force the fish from deep water up to near the surface where they are easier to catch. Killer whales are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal family groups, which are the most stable of any animal group. Another commonly cited example of a benefit group living for various species of whales or dolphins is babysitting or allomothering. The killer whale consists of three different types of ... • 3. Smoking and Second Hand Smoking Essay Lifestyle is one of the determinants of health. Several factors influence the family lifestyle in UAE such as smoking. Tobacco uses still a great health hazard. It caused death for more than six million people in the world in 2010 (Aden, Karrar, Shafey Al Hosani, 2013). UAE faces a lot of negative effects related to tobaccosuch as cardiovascular disease which counted by 37.5% of all deaths in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (Aden, Karrar, Shafey Al Hosani, 2013). Injury can cause mortality and disability. It was the second leading cause of death UAE between 2000 and 2008 which is estimated at 1200 deaths per year. Around 9% of deaths of children was caused by injury from 2000 to 2008 (Loney, Aw, Daniel, Handysides, Ali, Blair, Grivna Shah, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also can increase the risk of cancer, peripheral vascular diseases, and lung cancer. Smokers are at doubled risk for ischemic stroke (Ockene Miller, 1997). Smoking plays a great role in endocrine disorders. It can decline the rate of fertility in both male and female. It is also associated with insulin resistance (Tweed, Hsia, Lutfy, Friedman, 2012). Indeed, both types of smoking, active and passive smoking can cause serious health problems. Passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke, by persons other than the intended active smoker. It is also known as second hand smoking and it can cause premature death and morbidity. It can cause ischemic heart disease and asthma (Wipflia Sameta, 2011). Second hand smokers are at increased risk for coronary heart disease by approximately 30% (Barnoya Glantz, 2005). Second hand smoking has undesirable harmful impacts on children. It can cause lower respiratory tract infection, asthma, cot death and meningococcal disease. Children are more prone to develop the above mentioned diseases than adults as, children inhale more polluted air per kilogram (action on smoking and health, 2014). I would like to advise the paterfamilias or any smoker to visit a Clinic for Smoking Cessation as it helps them to stop smoking immediately.Home accidents and injuries are common cause of death in the UAE especially among kids. Regards, Harrison Aaron St. Albans School 16 harrison.aaron97@gmail.com (240) 515 1212 Dear Parents (and older siblings who think they are parents) of Rising Seniors, This process will be long and arduous for you. In my opinion, this marks a transition in the relationship with your sons. Prior to the process, you led and guided your child. After the process, you will have to have faith that your child absorbed your teachings. The process is the shift from one to another. It is the first time when parents must ceed control to their sons. You can make this process a living hell for your son or you can make it a living purgatory. First, this is not your future. Please do not live vicariously through your child. This is their choice. Your role is to assist them in making their choice. To explain, I will provide a metaphor: Open your child s eyes, but do not instruct them where to look. They will be receiving tons of information and you may need to help them sift through it. Talk to them about your process/experience. Provide information, but try not to sway them towards one school or another. I had two schools between which I was deciding. • 5. Recording Guitar And A Dynamic Cardioid Microphone Recording guitar is rarely ever as easy as sloppily plopping down whatever mic s handy at the moment in front of the speaker grille and hitting record. Majority would even argue that mic choice and placement only play bit parts in a larger production that involves pre amps, guitar amps, cable length, A/D D/A converters, tracking through a console clean vis a vis applying processing going in, and of course, the choice of guitaritself! Instead of writing a fully comprehensive work (and a very, very long discussion and debate), this article aims to address some basic guitar micing technique using a dynamic cardioid microphone(such as the venerable SM57) and a condenser (such as a Neumann u87). 1 mic technique If the situation calls for using one microphone, you can position your dynamic mic either as close to the speaker grille cloth as possible (less ambiance) or 3 6 inches away, either pointing to the center of the cone or off axis. Listen through your monitors how the speaker sounds like, and change cones if you aren t satisfied (as in the case of a marshall 4x12). Once you ve decided on which cone to record, fine tune the guitar sound by angling the mic towards or away from the center of the cone as it makes a difference in the tone coming into your recording. A condenser is generally placed a bit farther because of its higher sensitivity (and in some cases, lower clipping point with regard to SPL handling). 2 mic technique Applying the technique above, one may ... • 6. The Importance Of The Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War In late January of 1968, during the Vietnamese lunar new year known as Tet, the North Vietnamese launched a coordinated series of attacks on cities and outposts in South Vietnam. The attack, which went on to be known as the Tet Offensive, was an attempt from the Viet Cong to spark a rebellion in South Vietnam and to send a stark message to United States, advising them to limit their involvement in the conflict. Although U.S. and South Vietnamese troops were able to hold off some of the attacks, the Tet Offensive was still a victory for the Viet Cong despite having received numerous casualties. The Tet Offensive marked a turning point for the Viet Cong in the Vietnam war, with the attack beginning the United States long withdraw from the country. Due to news coverage of the attack being broadcasted on American television, public support for the war began to deteriorate, leading to more people wanting for an end to the conflict. North Vietnamese Commander General Vo Nguyen Giap had chosen the Vietnamese holiday, which occurs on January 31st, to break the stalemate in the war. Giap believed that a coordinated attack would cause an unstable Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) to collapse. He also hoped that this collapse would lead to chaos and a rebellion amongst South Vietnamese citizens. The main reason for Giap s attack; however, was an attempt to cripple the fragile relationship between the United States and South Vietnam. By the late 1960s, the strong ... • 7. Ball Turret Gunner There are three elements employed by Randall Jarrell in his poem, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, which illustrate the cycle of life and death of the gunner. The utilization of rhythm, use of imagery, and sequencing of events profoundly impact the development of the theme which conveys sending young people to fight a war is essentially ending life before it begins. Each element is evidenced in all five lines of the one stanzapoem. Understanding these elements allows readers to grasp the troublesome concept of death through warfare in just five short lines. The author of the poem The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner purposely writes it without a fixed structure of rhythm or rhyme. Composing strict metrical patterns or rhyme schemes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of the sequencing of events in the five short lines. The way in which it was written mimics the life cycle of humans particularly the gunner s. The poem begins by referencing the complete safety of the gunner while protected inside of his mother s womb. Beginning with the mother s womb is significant because it provides the depiction of the womb for all five lines. As he falls out abruptly into the State of warfare, his is still hunched into a fetal position like that of a newborn animal. Because he is still hunched in this position, the poem implies that the gunner was not ready for the challenges that he was forced to face. This womb is not as friendly or comforting as his mothers, and it foreshadows the dangers to come. He awakens from his state of childlike innocence to imminent danger and the nightmare of death. He is promptly murdered which demonstrates how the gunner proceeded straight from the sleep of childhood to the sleep of death, which is likened to an abortion. The brevity of the poem mimics the brevity of the gunner s life, and the stages of the gunner s life are squeezed together in order to illustrate how quickly the gunner s life was taken from him. The poem jumps from birth to death with barely any mention of the eighteen or nineteen years in between. The poet views the young soldiers as unnecessary sacrifices who are born just to die. • 8. Written In 1902 Life Is Fine Mood Written in 1902 Life is fine is one of the best poems by Langston Hughes. Life is Fine features the cycle of life and how important life is. Life is fine uses such as tone, figurative languages and other devices to get the message across. Langston Hughes structures the poem as a prologue where the narrator narrates his progress from being in total despair to self realization about how important life is. The poem contains six stanzas, and the first four stanzas are the interpretations of the narrator s attempts to commit suicide. The narrator s solid feeling about his situation is getting worse and he s struggling with it, and he makes another effort to kill himself by leaping from a sixteenth floor of a building in the third stanza. This is also when the reader or the audience comes to recognize the reason he is trying to kill himself. The theme of this poem denotes to the disillusion that people usually have of dying. He intensely depicts the narrator s hardships by allowing the man to express his depression to the readers. The hostility in the poet s tone is suggested when he emphasizes the inevitable failure when the narrator attempts to kill himself twice. Hughes also criticizes human insignificance through the disdain of life that the narrator shows in the poem. The mood Hughes creates is realistic and melancholy at first. But it becomes more positive as the narrator finally comes to a realization that life is fine . The reader or audience is been taking through the changes of mood from pessimism to optimism as the narrator badly seeks for death at the opening of the poem and then at the end of the poem, the narrator becomes more aware of how lucky he still is as he admits: So since I m still here livin , I guess I will live on. • 9. The Negative Effects Of Smoking In High School Students As a high school student I felt as though the positive outcomes would overpower the negatives, which I soon realized would not be the case. The peer pressure I felt from my friends who smoked also added to the reasoning behind my choice to try smoking during the initial stage of my high school experience. Research suggests that children who smoke cause their non smoking peers to take up the habit through strategies such as coercion, teasing, bullying and rejection from a desired group (Michell and West, 1996). Being a student in my first year of high school I felt as though I didn t know anyone s true intentions. I felt pressure from older students who were talking to me and trying to influence me into smoking with them. Once I was a bit older I did a self evaluation to understand that this decision that I was making was not because I truly wanted to, or felt the need to do, but rather the influence of my classmates and peers from the older grades. I felt as though my peers from the older grades needed to see me do this in order to be accepted into their social group. After coming to the conclusion that I would stop smoking and follow my own moral directions, one could argue I was then following categorical imperatives. To kill a mockingbird investigates the racial tension in Maycomb by analysing features of attitudes towards Negroes that date back many generations. The meaning of the title To Kill a Mockingbird itself evokes the idea of racism that Lee wants to portray to the composer. Throughout the book, Tom Robinson is symbolised as the most important mockingbird an innocent who has been injured or destroyed. He is the mockingbird who helps his accuser in her chores and is killed due to the deep seated attitudes towards African Americans present in the southern states of America. In the poem, the people of the town seemed to be unhappy and resent what they thought was a humdrum life. A supporting fact of this would be the lack of relationships in any form throughout the poem. It can also be assumed Richard Cory appears to keep all of his emotions hidden from the rest of the world through his everyday routine. This period of time was my early childhood when the only time I became sick was when I fell during my joyous playtimes. However, as I grew older, the world and my environment changed. I always tried to keep healthy by maintaining the right diet and taking vitamins. Despite this, something terrible happened to me on December 12th, 2015. December 12th, 2015 was just another regular day for me. I was working at my part time job at the grocery store. I did the same routine tasks as any other day: said my prayers, had breakfast, showered and got prepared to go to work. That morning was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining brightly, the birds were chirping sweetly and a warm Christmas spirit was in my home. My parents were jovial as on any other day, and they both encouraged me to have a wonderful day. Work began at 8am. It was 7:16 am when I left home to go to work. I was energetic and excited. I arrived at work at 7:45 am to begin my shift. The sun was extremely hot and I began to sweat as I unlocked the outdoor trolleys. However, I did not let this deter me, as I was in an energetic mood and eager to spread the Christmas spirit to all the customers whom I would encounter. Explain how Heilbroner discusses the rise and establishment of capitalism? In this short essay, I will explain few key differences between feudalism and capitalism based on Heilbroner s book. They are as follows: the property rights (Land), the system of wage and labor (Workers), and the existence of competition. Additionally, I will discuss the rise of capitalismbased on Heilbroner point of view. Both feudalism and capitalism are defined by many scholars in various ways. As for capitalism, the land is considered a commodity that can be bought and sold. The legal framework includes universal enforcement of property rights. Property right not only exists, workers get standardized legal protection for their property. Landlords own the land and tenants must pay rent. Second:Workers In feudalism, the system of wage labor didn t exist. The serf lives off the land and is forced to work in return, they get food and protection. They don t have a work contract or wages. They do not have the option to leave, and they work even if the conditions are unbearable. When the land is transferred to another lord, the serf will have a new lord to obey. Unlike feudalism, in capitalism work is a contract based between employer and worker, so does have a system of wage labor. Workers had freedom whether to terminate their contract or not. If the worker does not like their current job, the worker had some flexibility to decide what to do next, stay or leave. As Adam Smith states If profits or wages are too low in one trade area, there will be an evacuation of capital and labor until the supply is better adjusted to the demand (Heilbroner, 1999) In regard to buying and selling of labor power. In feudalism, buying and selling labor power wasn t an option. A serf was born into the land and couldn t leave the manor and sell their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relying on technology becomes associated with this utopian society, and certain problems such as laziness can arise because of this. Laziness as a result of dependency on technology proves to be fatal. An example of this would be when one thinks about the Sphinx s riddle. At first, society finds the answer to the riddle through one specific way of thinking and arriving at that answer, but because of technology anything originally learned can then be referenced so that eliminates the need to remember it. Now if someone who comes from a society that is dependent on technology is asked this riddle, he will have no way of answering the question because he would first need to look at technology for the answer. Wells suggests that this shows that after arriving to a utopian state, a society dependent on technology can have a reduced ability to think. • 36. Theme Of Wait And Hope In The Count Of Monte Cristo The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Alexandre Dumas, is an adventure novel published in 1844 in France which gained worldwide popularity for its universal themes. Dumas incorporated themes of moral justice, ultimate happiness, and hope. These themes are apparent throughout this novel, where the main character Edmond Dantes, or The Count of Monte Cristo, takes justice into his own hands, and plays God to get his vengeance on those who have wronged him. In the following essay I will analyze the true meaning of wait and hope found in this novel. Edmond Dantes had an extremely successful young life, he was engaged, he was about to be captain of a ship, and he was quite popular all before the age of 20. Unfortunately, who he thought were his friends were envious of all his success. Fernand Mondego was in love with his fiance Mercedes, his cohort Danglars wanted to have the success that he had for himself, and Caderousse was jealous of him as well. Together, the trio destroyed his life by putting him in prison to steal everything good away from him. Danglars created the plot to frame DantГЁs for treason, Fernand mailed the letter they constructed, and Villefort sent the Count to jail only to protect his own father and himself. Dantes spent fourteen years in prison, but in this time he grew up and discovered his true values with the help of his greatest mentor and jail neighbor Abbe Faria. He became a teacher to him during their several years as prisoners, and he taught ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. World War One Heritage And Remembrance The war has always acted as a vicious muse for songwriters. Since Antiquity, it has inspired a vast song repertoire, which has been able to describe tragic events in a vivid and striking way. Governments and rulers used and are still using music with propagandistic and mass control aims; patriotic composers consecrate their works to glorify belligerent ideals and galvanise the troops, while pacifist or subversive ones tries to condemn warfare. Music is also extensively used after wars with commemorative goals or therapeutic objectives. However, it is undoubtedly among common soldiers that music reveals its most authentic and frank aspects. Soldiers are indeed the only ones who live wars first hand, experiencing the tragedies of life on the frontline and bluntly describing them. The First World War is one of the historic events that have impressed the most the creative souls, because of its inhumanity and momentous nature. In fact, it is still source for a cultural and social debate in many countries, primarily Italy. World War One heritage and remembrance is indeed a controversial topic for the Italian civil society: during the last decades, its memory has been widely exploited by political opportunists and a sincere and a truthful representation of the events is far to be portrayed. The publication of the work, though, came only after the sentenced hangings of the two murderers of the Clutter family, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. For six extensive years, Capote and his childhood friend, Harper Lee, spent countless hours analyzing the case and delving deeper into it. Capote and Lee interviewed hundreds of Kansanians in an effort to elicit details and information to incorporate into the novel. Even Capote, himself, spent much time with the two murderers, accumulating further intelligence of the past lives of the murders and the criminality involved in the murders. Along the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area, dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices that over looked the play yard for some prisoners. This can be good for therapist to observe behaviors and actions of the inmatesoutside ... • 53. Pectin Essay The assay measured the ability of pectin to cause cell death. Both pectin samples induced necrotic cell death in HT 29 cells, both pectin concentration and pectin type had a significant (p 0.0001) effect on cell cytotoxicity. 400W treated pectin at 0.75 mg/ml concentration induced 14.41В±1.64% LDH activity while 0.1mg/ml resulted in 6.40В± 0.59% cytotoxicity, on the other hand the 200W treated pectin at 0.1mg/ml concentration induced 3.09В±0.28% while 0.75mg/ml induced 6.83 В± 0.80 % cell cytotoxicity. The ability of modified pectin to induce cell cytotoxicity was recently reported [23], 3mg/ml of heat modified citrus pectin induced over approximately 20% and 15% cell cytotoxicity in HepG2 cells and A549 cells respectively after 24hours exposure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 400W sonicated pectin had small molecular weight pectin fractions compared to 200W pectin, which could have enhanced its transportation into the cells, hence higher concentration of 400W sonicated pectin entered the cells leading to its higher activity than high molecular weight 200W treated pectin. Moreover, 400W sonicated pectin had higher galactose and arabinose content which are known to play a role in pectin induced cell death. It was reported that galactose rich pectin has higher biological activity than low galactose content pectin, for instance MCP is rich in galactose and galacturonic acid which are attributed to its activity [16,42]. Measuring the release of the intracellular enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme by cells after exposure to a compound is a reliable measure of compounds cytotoxicity to ... • 54. Satrapi s Resistance In Persepolis To understand and obey any law forcing individuals to change their way of life causes resistance. In the graphic novel Persepolis, although she effectively remembers those who suffered, Marjane Satrapi excels in showing Iranians as very ordinary but interesting people. Satrapi illustrates their normalcy through everyday activities and their responses to the situation they face within their country. Although Persepolis is a graphic novel, it portrays issues of politics through the innocence and lightheartedness of a child. Satrapi acknowledges those who were forced to leave their homes, as well as, remembering loved ones who have died and suffered. Many were forced to leave and flee their homeland as it becomes too dangerous to live in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Satrapi portrays herself as an average modern teen through her personal style and music choice. For instance, she has a Kim Wilde and Iron Maiden poster which her parents smuggled in from Turkey; as Satrapi describes, two posters, one of Kim Wilde and one of Iron Maiden (126). Although it was forbidden, Satrapi listened to the music and enjoyed expressing it by the way she dressed. Satrapi is allowed to wear whatever she pleases as her mother is very permissive; Satrapi explains, I only knew two or three other girls who could go out alone at thirteen (131)Although, alcohol is strictly forbidden, Satrapi s family drinks alcohol often as it is an essential to their daily lives. Satrapi discloses her, uncle was the vintner he had built a genuine winemaking lab in his basement (106) where, Mrs. Nasrine, who was also his cleaning lady, crushed the grapes (106). They are able to relax and drink as long as they do not get caught which shows Satrapi s family does not believe in restricting an individual from being able to consume anything they wish. Nevertheless, Satrapi demonstrates they have kept their sanity through the madness and bombings, while still retaining time to enjoy themselves. In spite of all the dangers (106), her family threw parties as, without them it wouldn t be psychologically bearable (106) and without parties they, might as well just bury [themselves] now (106). The parties were ways of not only celebrating events (like the birth of Satrapi s cousin), but also coping with the bombings and dangers which lie outside their homes; distract themselves from their problems. Although Satrapi is surrounded by eminent threats to her safety, she still risks everything to keep her rationality and normality as being true to herself is most important to her. Overall, Satrapi uses daily life to express not all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. America And Its Homeland Security Online Essay America and Its Homeland Security Online Abstract: Everyday security is provided by the states and federal government. These tasks get more difficult as new technology introduces itself. Cybersecurity is one of the most popular security sectors in today s world. There is not only cyberbullying going on in the world. Terrorismcan be planned and sent from person to person over the internet. People s identities are being stole to help carry out these terrorist acts and this is just the being of it. The United States created the Department of Homeland Security as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This was an effort to prevent future terrorist attacks on our nation. Along with that department, laws have been enacted, such as the USA PATRIOT Act. This law was introduced and passed to provide Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies with better resources to fight and stand up against terrorism. The way to successfully providing security against domestic and international terrorists is to understand the mentality of a terrorist. • 57. Ockham s Razor There are different ways we come to know the stuff in this world. We generally prefer theories that are simple. The simpler the theory, the less entities involved; therefore, the fewer assumptions we have to make. Quine supports the principle Ockham s Razor in acceptance of an ontology. Ockham s Razor is a principle that is preferred when trying to determine our ontological beliefs. The first step of Quine s method suggests that we use simple theories. As a naturalist, Quine also only takes what scientific theories give him. This is slightly problematic because that means only sciencecan determine what exists and seems to deny common sense. Ontology is the study of what there is and is a theory about the types of entities there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is, he allows for science to be the determiner of what exists and what does not and so only material stuff exists for him, as that is what science determines to be real. In other words, Quine makes the goal of ontology, ultimately, taking the best and the simplest science theories and putting them to use within his method . His method can be criticized because Quine, being a naturalist, denies a priori knowledge by definition and therefore, rejecting anything abstract such as mathematics. However, we do take that mathematics and other abstract theories to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Behavior and Relationship Observation Behavior observation Conformity is a general concept that refers to changing one s behavior which is caused by another person or group.in other words it results to someone acting in some way due to the influence they got from others (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). For the purpose of this paper, I have made the assumption that the people I am observing are a couple taking into account the preformed ideas of how couples do behave. I have also made an assumption that that they are in a love relationship and they are married. For people who are in a relationship they have to try and understand each other. They also have to conform their behaviors according to their partners so that they can understand each other more in the relationship. Conformity is not an easy concept especially when one is required to make major behavior changes in their lives. Therefore there are pre conformity behaviors that could be observed in the man before he fully demonstrated a conforming behavior. The pre conforming behavior was such as constantly forgetting what he was expected to do since this was a relatively new thing for him. There were instances where he totally forgot or did what was expected of him halfway without completion. There are several types of conformities which include; normative conformity. Normative conformity involves an individual changing their behavior so that they can fit well into a particular group (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2007). Normative influence comes ...
